Reviews (page 8 of 14)
I enjoyed this. Wasn't sure I was ready for it first thing on a Monday morning, but it was fun. Rode a nice edge between rock and electronic.
Was on board till the title track, it all fell apart around then
This was okay.
i think im not getting the point yet. maybe in another moment of my life
don't love it or hate it, just not my scene
"Sound of Silver" is a good album - no more, no less. The production is crisp, cold, and clear, perfectly suiting the music. Across the record, I can hear the fingerprints of many artists I admire, including David Byrne, Kraftwerk, The Human League, Eno-era Roxy Music, The Killers, Lou Reed, and David Bowie. However, no single track truly grabbed me, nor does the collection sustain the high level of quality needed to invite repeated listens. Three stars. 1 "Get Innocuous!" (3/5) 2 "Time to Get Away" (3/5) 3 "North American Scum" (3/5) 4 "Someone Great" (4/5) 5 "All My Friends" (3/5) 6 "Us v Them" (4/5) 7 "Watch the Tapes" (3/5) 8 "Sound of Silver" (3/5) 9 "New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down" (4/5) Total - 30 Average - 3.3 397/1001 208/397 albums reviewed were new to me.
I like the EM part, not that big a fan of the D, though. Wait…
Some great songs mixed in with some adequate songs. New York I love you is a perfect song to end the album
Cool album, really good example of the better side of the indie rock / post punk scene, with the biggest difference really being the overall quality of the songs themselves
Baustelle, Gerstetten, Deutschland. Gute Scheibe, wenn auch nicht deren Beste.
Sound of Silver wears its influences on its sleeves. I can hear Bowie, i can hear some Moroder-era Disco and (most troubling) some indie-rock singing and some luke-warm punk-spirit. On some tracks this works incredibly well. Get Innocuous, Time To Get Away and Someone Right just hit a sweet spot. They are fun, focussed and find a great balance between monotony and excitement. And yes, these songs are all on the first half of the album. Other songs are… rougher. North American Scum is vocally challenging for the ears, the piano on All My Friends seemed to pierce my eardrum at some point and the time has come to delete Us vs Them from my library. At some points it felt like LCD Soundsystem was a music class in high school that just wanted to try out every instrument they could find - it gets too messy and annoying. I guess they said it best themselves: It‘s not getting better, it‘s just getting old. The album left me a little baffled. I really enjoy four tracks on here - but the other five just don‘t work for me at all. Yet i am intrigued enough that i hopefully will find the time to dig deeper into LCD‘s discography.
lovely
Nice
It's good but the best song is the last song
This album has some great moments: North American Scum and My Friends in particular but some of the other tracks are a little bland. Can't see it being worthy of being on the list, though it is a decent enough album.
If disco was a party then this is a "party" - a simulacrum of the sort of revelry Studio 54 was known for, only desaturated, drained of much of its energy, made clumsy and slightly pigeon-toed in the way all the indie girls in the mid-2000s stood for some reason. It isn't *bad* per se, but it's mostly just sort of *there*, like a half-built house some other contractor was supposed to finish. James Murphy sometimes seems like he wants to be Isaac Brock ("Time to Get Away"); more often he seems like he wants to be like who Brock wants to be like, which is David Byrne ("Get Innocuous!"). His sociopolitics are hit ("North American Scum") and miss ("Us V Them"). Occasionally his effort is cut with a crucial bit of Ian Curtis ("All My Friends"), and perhaps that's what he's most trying to signify - Curtis's utter exhaustion. And so Murphy's compositions frequently stand still in the middle of the dancefloor and refuse to move, playing the same phrase over and over with no variation, *The Tin Drum* in aural form. And the problem with that tactic is that it focuses attention on his lyrics, and he doesn't have enough to say - or rather, what he is saying is that he doesn't have enough to say, which isn't exactly the same thing but the extra steps are ultimately unimportant. Murphy frequently relies on throwing out a very direct, literal statement of how he's feeling without any apparent attempt to make it poetic or to fit meter, which is probably supposed to sound like he's being overcome with feeling but instead just feels like he didn't feel like finish the lyric properly ("New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down"). On "All My Friends" he bemoans the grind of touring (both figurative and literal, as in the grind of his teeth when he's high) and pines for home. Which, great - I wholeheartedly support heading back to Brooklyn and climbing in bed for a month. It's just hard for me to get past the feeling that my time is being wasted here when Murphy evidently thinks his own time is being wasted putting this music forward.
No está mal pero por momentos un poco machacón.
Not as good as the orhers…
Never really listened to this because it was too 'popular' at the time. Kinda derivative but also pretty banging. Very Bowie. Also sounds like the strokes. This whole list is odd as hell. Basically every track makes me think of something I'd much rather be listening to.
I had not listened to any LCD Soundsystem previously. It felt like an album of its time (the mid-aughts). Though and electronic album the rock influence is clear, with songs that reminded me of The Who, Modest Mouse, and Passion Pit. It had some decent variety, with the final track slowing things down before closing out the album. I enjoyed listening to it, but don't I'd put it in my regular rotation.
Listens: Fairly familiar Anytime someone asks for a band I think is overrated, my answer is always LCD Soundsystem. It's not that they're bad—that's not what overrated means—they're just nowhere near as good, in my opinion, as the critical fervor around them has always claimed. And I guess I feel somewhat qualified to have this take because, unlike many other indie darlings like Arcade Fire, I actually like a lot of LCD Soundsystem's music! This album, admittedly the only one of theirs I've actually listened to in full, is a perfect encapsulation of that for me. There are some incredible songs here—"North American Scum" goes hard as hell, and "Someone Great" almost always makes me tear up. But it all kind of sounds the same. By the time you're halfway through the album, at "Us V. Them", the music sounds like a parody of itself, like they want to keep dancing but are just out of ideas. It starts to feel rote, uninspired. The only reprieve comes at the end with "New York I Love You," a sardonic lament against gentrification that's a sonic left turn into balladry on an otherwise straightforward dance-punk album. But to be clear, their sound has its strengths. Hearing their almost-live drum timbres against their dance landscape was a revelation for me, and they deserve kudos for the restrained, slowly building style they're known for. But the way they lay into repetition can be a blessing and a curse. When it works, it works. When it doesn't, you're stuck listening to an eight-minute song that never really seems to go anywhere rewarding. Even lyrically, the repetition falls flat: "Makes you want to feel like a teenager, until you remember the feelings of a real-life emotional teenager, and then you think again," is funny the first time, but by the third you're kind of over it, and don't even talk to me about the eighth. That said, their cultural influence in the 2000s is undeniable, and I feel shifted back in time listening to this in ways that their contemporaries can't manage. Not that it feels dated; it just feels like a cultural relic of a time when things felt more... hopeful?
Dynamic interconnection
Some talking heads influence? Enjoyed this
Started really strong but teeters off at the end. Still cool but didnt wrap up how I wanted. Favorite Song: Someone Great
3/5
vibey electronic pubky background noise i found interesting and enjoyable
Thumbn up,
It's ok, a bit different. I didn't really warm to it though and some of the tunes get stuck without any progression.
This is not their best work in my opinion. One stand out track & the rest washed over me.
Heavy beat and percussion to open an album is always going to win me over - 7 minute opening track usually tedious and obnoxious otherwise Start of all my friends, incredible. I like the starts more than the middle and the ends. Us vs Them The schtickiness of this sounds I find tiring to sustain for a whole album, synth beats not enough to keep me loving this I will admit I started this expecting sneaky sound system lol
If somebody played this to me with no context and asked me what year I thought it was from I would’ve instinctively guessed 2007, which isn’t necessarily a good thing because I consider that a weak period for music generally. I have no nostalgia for this but found it quite enjoyable despite its time period deficits. It’s better than most other things from the mid to late aughts, particularly when they don’t try to force themselves out of second gear. They’re at their best with a song that can drone along.
just ok. Some good stuff, some not great.
Quite interesting
A truly unique sound would have no idea what genre this would be, some really great high energy songs on here. And others that made me uncomfortable somehow, I didn’t love all of it but as a whole it’s a great and unique album
I've always hesitated giving LCD too much attention. I can't even fully tell you why. I felt it listening to this. I like parts. I might even like certain tracks. I don't know. Plus I feel like I missed the boat and I kinda don't care or want to care, and this last listen didn't change that sentiment a whole lot.
Maar een Us vs Them? FAVO: Get innocuous, Time to get away, Someone Great
Ну окей..
Eh, it’s ok
James Murphy without a doubt did nothing but pull together all his 70's influences (Berlin Bowie, Eno & Talking Heads, disco) and repackage them to an elder millennial audience who just wanted to feel something again. But man, this one still has my heart even if my brain knows it's kinda meh. The one-two emotional gut punch of "Someone Great" and "All My Friends" is an all timer for me, and there's a handful of great grooves. But yeah, it shouldn't be considered some amazing feat. It's just really fun dance music from the age of irony and it's better as a trip down memory lane than anything else.
A fun album and band, but not one I'm overly crazy about. I had a good time listening to the punk instrumentation and fun vocals. That said, I can't see myself seeking this out in the future.
Most of this is probably very fun to dance to but a little repetitive just to sit around and listen to. The conspicuous exception is Someone Great, a terrific song. (Those chimes!) All My Friends accelerates nicely too: it feels a little Killers-like. I also really like the Lodger-era-Bowie-ish vocals on Get Innocuous.
Sounds good, but it lacks some punch, problem to be fixed in This is Happening.
This is decent... I'm familiar with the radio airplay tracks, which I've always enjoyed. Maybe a couple of tracks too long though. Very close to the 'to buy list' but I'm not sure when I'd reach for it. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ Revisit ✅️ ★★★☆☆(6/10) Total reviewed : 363 Already owned : 79 Purchased : 16 To buy : 6 Nope : 262
Not to my tastes. Not bad, some interesting stuff I guess.
Interesting, not what I expected.
Liked some
It was interesting I was feeling the vibes in some tracks but maybe just not my genre
I think this album has great moments but is constantly hampered by long instrumentals that don’t really develop, this album could’ve been shorter and had more emotional pay offs, or if they wanted to keep the long intros don’t have the same music looped for 2 minutes
Start a drum beat, let it go for a bit, then say the same thing a bunch of times, and baby, you’ve got an LCD Soundsystem song. Not necessarily a bad thing, a couple songs stood out and I enjoyed those. It just goes on a bit too long. A bit of editing down would do some wonders. It just starts to feel a bit samey when it goes on too long.
This is a great album to have on in the background while socialising, but it’s not one I’d reach for to actively listen to. The use of cowbell, agogô (your girl loves an agogô bell) and laser drops are a sensory yum, there’s no other way to put it. I’m trying to limit 4 and 5 to objectively exceptional albums & personal favourites- this deserves a 3.5 realistically, but since we can’t do halves my hands are tied. New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down is a multiple playlist staple for me and deserves a special mention.
Sounds like what happens when a Talking Heads album has a gangbang with a drum machine and a bunch of Nokia ringtones. It was all right at first, but it got on my nerves after a while. The post-punk, instrumental bits were not bad, but the electronic elements were trite and annoying, and often felt gimmicky and unnecessary. Also, too many long and repetitive songs (Us v Them is basically the singer repeating “Over and over again” for 8 minutes...). Kind of bored me overall. I'm glad I didn't give up though, the last song was surprisingly good and different from the rest of the album. A subjective 2,5*, but I'll round it up for originality – despite the poor execution, there were some good ideas here and there, and it's still better than the other album they have on the list. 5/10
I had listend to this album a lot at the time, more because it was a a cool Brooklyn group mixing elctro and instruments, It's still quite good, not that good for me?
At first, I wasn’t sure this would be my thing, but it’s actually a pretty good surprise. Not everything clicks with me, yet the magic works often enough, helped by a very rock-oriented approach mixed with an electro and sometimes even funky vibe. Vocally, it feels closer to an alternative rock band than what I expected. I might try again - 2,5/5
I liked the songs toward the end of the album more than the beginning, hmm. 3.
Am I having a party? Is there a party here?
Another indie-adjacent record I thought might herald a new era but mostly just stayed in its corner. It’s the most cohesive sound JM has ever pulled together front-to-back while also having memorable melodies. That it was created alongside 45:33, still the clear high-water mark for his project, is no surprise. Its Eno-aping and ease with borrowing from whomever makes it feel less like an aesthetic leap forward than a fine effort, so I am a little surprised to see it included here. JM’s a good guy, I wish him no ill will, but I’m not sure he ever had that much to say and as friends of his told me later, he just wants to get people dancing and also crack jokes.
Teile des Albums klingen wie der Soundtrack zu einem Coming-of-age-Film, aber andere verfehlen das Ziel für mich leider irgendwie
not bad
Rating:★★★ I liked this album ok. Might listen to a few songs again.
So good
Weird but fun album!
This was a good listen
I like LCDS well enough but never feel like listening to them on my own. If it’s playing or comes up on a list, great! Otherwise, I don't think about them. I dunno why, but it’s kind of like fast food. I enjoy it while it's happening but there's nothing that sticks with me about it. Anyway, I enjoyed this album a lot, no duds, some very good tracks. But I'll probably never listen to it start to finish again
Meh, it was fine.
The first half listened ok, but then I got tired
Three of the best songs they've ever had, and a lot of other stuff.
Not bad
Liquid dancing with Techno Viking at the Grizzly Rose.
Kinda cool
Nice enough but not for me. The New Wave influence, with chilly production and mannered vocal delivery, doesn't appeal to me.
It’s not that I think it’s bad but LCD never really clicks for me
I feel like I remember liking this more. It’s not that I dislike it, just that it doesn’t draw me like I remember it doing.
7/10
Pretty cool! repetitive lyrics but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I especially liked the last song "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down"
3/5
Been a long hot minute since I bumped some LCD Soundsystem. Forgot one of the songs off this album was in Step Brothers. Cool album.
It's all-right, doesn't sound too special to me. 2,5/5
Beep boop bop
Zo veel soort van bekende hitjes, leuk voor een keertje, maar weet niet of ik terug kom
Okayy
I really wanted to like this more. I find lcd are a curious mix with the stream of consciousness alt rock vocals of, say, a Julian Casablancas of the strokes over the electronic dance inspired sonic experimentation of, even a New Order (yeah I know they’re a different musical generation but still worth a comparison). I really liked it musically with some very cool dance beats, but I’m just not a fan of James Murphy’s vocals. He’s better when he’s not trying to be over freaky and just sings but those opening couple of tracks just don’t fit. If you want angsty American 2000s alt rock go the killers, hives, even Brian Molko with early placebo but it doesn’t mix with edm. I still have it 3 stars because at least it’s an original take- I just don’t know if I’d go back for another listen.
LCD was all the rage in the early mid aughts but I just never got it. Not my cup of tea.
It's very strange to hear a 2007 album that sounds so heavily influenced by 80s pop. It's a good album, but honestly I prefer their 2017 album. Borderline 4.
I've listened to a few LCD Soundsystem albums and they have singles I like but I don't GET the artist. This album specifically is nice but it feels like a very specific vibe that I can't understand immediately. It's been a few listens so far and it's chill and kinda fun, but I'm not blown away by the cowbell cowbell cowbell and general spaced-out mindset it feels like I need to be in for it. One day I'll listen to the rest and I'll finally be an LCDS enjoyer but for now I found it a decent 6.5/10
I love the indie sleaze vibes. Making notes for the indie sleaze ML round. I really love New York, I Love You, but not this long version
not my fave, but NYILYBYBMD was there, so I am happy
intéressant mais jsuis pas encore assez électrique et chauffé par le thème.
Not my thing but as far as the genre goes, this is pretty good. Someone Great was particularly groovy
This was fine. It didn't rock as much as their other albums.
3/5. Really groovy album, great beats and bass lines throughout. Some of the songs go on way too long and some are straight up duds. Thus the take-it-or-leave-it 3/5 rating.
The opening track was catchier than I expected, and I have to admit I was rocking out to the album during my workout. This was fun, easy, upbeat listening.
It has its moments but I’m not sure the quality control was perfect on this as it drags in places, which is a shame as it has some good tracks. It is so much better than the other LCD album on the list. Much, much better.
What is wild to me isn't that LCD Soundsystem has an album on this list being that some people really REALLY like them. I am however surprised that they have 2 albums on this list. One was more than enough for some so so music. Taste is subjective so I won't pretend like somehow I am the be all end all of opinions. 2.5 all day everyday.
Começou repetitivo, mas fiquei balançando a cabeça enquanto trabalhava e me imaginei na criação de personagem do The Sims Bustin Out. Depois ficou mais do mesmo, nada demais, mas ok. Mais um álbum que só passa despercebido. Só que eu notei uma coisa estranha, eu tinha uma música curtida e não sabia por que... All My Friends o nome dela. Eu ouvi, e não achei tão interessante. Fui ver a letra. então eu entendi. Foda.
Its fine, unique at least.
I did enjoy this well enough, but in a sort of background sense which means I dont think I engaged that well. It was pretty good and I do like this sort of electronic music, I just prefer it to be a lot darker, so this didnt really grab me. I give it 3/5 but wish I could rate it higher with honesty.
This came out when I was 16 but I never listened to it at the time, so as a millenial with no nostalgia goggles.. I am completely and utterly indifferent to this. It feels like what you'd play at an indie rave. But I'm not at an indie rave, I'm at home listening to an album. I never understand dance music albums, it's a genre specifically made for a live audience to dance to. Putting it on a cd or album is just like, okay this is what you'd be listening to if you were there but you're not, you're in your car. The drawn out repetition works in a club because you're off your face and you want to dance, but at home not so much. That being said, it's okay, nothing special. Bang average repetetive 80s nostalgic indie electronica. Talking Heads, Kraftwerk, and Bowie inspired bleep bloop music for rich kids on pills. It kind of bored me halfway through because every song is kind of the same and longer than they need to be. I was thoroughly unimpressed.
its alright
Ahead of its time, not necessarily entertaining but definitely ahead of its time
3.5
i would describe lcd as easy listening....i dont feel like others would
It's good, but droning. It's like Talking Heads on meth. Constant, repeating, heavy repetitious beats with occasional singing. Mr. Byrne must be proud that the next generation is taking their exhausting methods to new technologies.
Really great record!
pas horrible, pas dingue, pas sur de réécouter, pas de bitches etc...
Good but not great
Love most of the LCD Soundsystem I’ve heard before and while a few songs were outstanding, others were kinda flops for me and felt monotonous and mundane. The songs with life spilling out of them are what keep this album up on its feet and give most of the beautiful instruments, themes, and lyrics. Still quite a great record but with a few potholes along the way.
LCD Soundsystem I don't hate you but you're bringing me down.
I liked the sounds not so much the lyrics
Pretty weird but in a fun way! I enjoyed and I will probably listen again
My only knowledge of LCD Soundsystem was hearing "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House" on repeat when I worked at Hollister. I can see why people would rank this album highly. I imagine when it came out it was highly ground breaking. Just not my scene.
Trambolico
Bom más não é meu estilo
Not too bad of an album for a first listen. The mannerisms and singing from LCD's frontman gives me heavy Franz Ferdinand vibes, especially with the overly aware lyrics. This album had a nice variety of sounds, but some of the more dance-focused songs were quite repetitive which was a negative. So it kind of evened each other out. Just yet another one of the albums that a re-listen might help with, it's not whatsoever a completely lost album which I see no hope in. Highlight Song/s: "Someone Great", "All My Friends" and "New York..."
Probably wouldn't listen again, but not a bad album to go to a run to!
Some good tracks
it’s a fun dancey album, makes me think of good times in indie discos. But tbf it gets a bit long in the tooth and although there are some huge standouts there’s also a lot of meh. 3.0/5.0 Best Song: All My Friends
There is something deeply cringe about James Murphy to me, he makes (and often steals) great beats, but i don't like when he opens his mouth on the songs particularly. All my friends is obviously a hugely important tune to a lot of people and is a very good song though. I can sort of do without this album though
Didnt like it
Super
Kinda ok
bleh
Number: 77 Date: 03/20/2026 Artist: LCD Soundsystem Album: Sound of Silver Year: 2007 Genre: Electro Indie Rock Rating: 3 Notes: Before: So, I reviewed the wrong album yesterday. I listened to and reviewed their first album rather then this one. I actually listened to it at least 2x and I also listened to this one but didn't make notes on it. So, the point is, I have to listen to this one again and I've already heard plenty of LCD Sound System in the past 24 hours and am a little over it. I do like them a little but not that much. They have a few songs I like a lot but most of their music is not something I would go out of my way to hear. During: I have to say I liked their first self titled album much more than this one. On their first album, you could clearly hear some influence from The Fall on a few tracks. The Fall, btw, is my all time favorite band. This album though is mostly electro-pop, which is way down my list of genres that I typically listen to. 2 Get Innocuous! 3 Time To Get Away 3 North American Scum 3 Someone Great 5 All My Friends 3 Us V Them 3 Watch The Tapes 3 Sound Of Silver 5 New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down ----------------------------------------------------- 3.3 AVERAGE 3.3 WEIGHTED AVERAGE (accounts for song lengths) After : I have to say the closer, "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down", was a nice surprise. I know this song but had no idea this was from LCD Soundsystem. I've added it to my favorites of 2007 list. The album as a whole though would likely rank somewhere from 10 - 20 for the year. The only thing that ranks highly from 2007 that is marginally similar to this album is Dan Deacon's "Spiderman Of The Rings" which is not on the 1001 list, in fact nothing from Dan Deacon is, which is a major miss, imo. 3 my personal rating 4 suitability for this list 3 impact ----------------------------------------------- 3.3 composite rating
Fun at times but too repetitive, did enjoy a fiar bit tho. New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down was my fav song and first listen of the album with All My Friends and Us V Them being my other highlights
3/5
North American dance-punk revival!
It’s okay felt like it dragged a lot
Electronic music just isn’t really my jam. For most of the album, I feel like I was just listening to sounds instead of music. The title track makes my brain feel tingly which was kinda weird but an interesting feeling. I liked the last song, New York I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down
The beats pick you up and carry you along, mixed in with just the right amount of mid-2000s indie. That genre is very easy to dislike but occasionally someone does it well and although I can't put my finger on why, this is in the latter camp. I couldn't pick out many standout tracks at first listen but the album as a body of work passed an hour enjoyably. 'New York, I Love You...'. was notable. Not sure I will seek it out as a regular listen
Kinda repetitive but still good
Definitely some cool fun tunes but they’re all too bloody long. I was loving All My Friends and Us v Them but after a while even though I enjoyed them so much they just felt like they were never going to end. Seriously, cut each of these tracks in about half and they bop, but otherwise for me I’m sorry but they really overstay their welcomes. (2.5 stars)
le son des edging vore de konbini (oui j'ai un abonnement wifi)
Sound of silver, more like sound of gold to me
This was an okay listen.
Franchement pas mal la musique de konbini
It was ok - nothing groundbreaking but an interesting listen.
This was quirky and catchy enough to get me to like it a little.
You could probably watch the excitement vanish from my face as the album continued. I was really into it at first but as the track list progressed, it became more and more dull, ending with the most boring track. All in all, I could see myself liking this more if the band kept up the energy instead of using annoying sounds halfway through. Best songs are Time To Get Away and North American Scum. 5/10, so middeling.
👍🏻
8 - LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver - Rating = 3 Get Innocuous definitely sets the tone… slow layer building electro track. Right when it gets a little too same-y, another layer comes in to liven things up… good intro track. Time to Get Away brings the vocal keeping with the building groove, keyboards… they’re good at this building. Nothing American Scum continues the jam… this is okay but just okay, gets long, but thickly layered at the end. Someone Great is a nice change in groove if not totally, but good. All My Friends starts with a repetitive keyboard noodle that goes on by itself for over a minute and is annoying after 30 seconds. The same noodle repeats through the song… it’s annoying. The vocal is nice, but I can’t get past the keyboard. Us v Them gets off to a building jam and has a nice groove evolving, this is a good jam… eight and half minutes is a little long, but I dig it. Watch the Tapes is cool. Good vocal and catchy. Sound of Silver is a driving vocal, bass-y groove underneath, drifts a bit as it goes, a little long at 7+ minutes. New York, I Love You - different vocal piano track… it’s nice and a good ender… definitely different without any electro elements. Overall - this is a good album of the time and groundbreaking in many ways. I like it. I don’t love it, but it’s definitely an important album.
I'm seeing this group in concert this summer and I'm starting to suspect I will be the only person there who never really got LCD Soundsystem. Maybe that will change but this 3 star review will last forever.
I always love LCD for the first half of the song, and then the game becomes figuring out just how patient I am. Ran out of it more often while listening to this album, although of course it still bangs
IT was OK
This music wasn’t for me. I don’t think it was bad. I just don’t think it’s good.
I just liked one or two songs... the rest of it sounds pretty basic to me, sounds like the artic monkeys or any 00's - 10's "alternative" band.
I only know one song!
Great electronic album
Fun indie dance music. North American Scum and All My Friends are highlights. 3.5/5.
Nunca había escuchado esta banda; estuvo bien, un electrónico tranca.
Interesting album. Enjoyed but didn’t love
Groovy.
First impressions: well, it’s interesting if nothing else. The actual instrumental, awesome! The vocals? Well, not my favourite. The first track, Get Innocuous, was this almost to a T. I appreciated the vibes, but this was background music to me. I enjoyed Time to Get Away slightly more. It at least felt like it had a reason for every decision made. Following on from this, North American scum was a good time! The lyrics were quite good and it had a nice groove to it. Someone great reminds me of the Terraria soundtrack mixed with Metrics “Now or Never Now”. I genuinely loved All My Friends. Us v Them was really not my thing. I don’t think it’s bad, I just liked it less. Watch the tapes was solid. The title track again, was alright, it just wasn’t my thing. I was not expecting a piano ballad, but New York… gave it to me. I usually love good piano ballad but I couldn’t get into this one. It was also so out of left field for this album. There were bits of it I liked, 3/5 ⭐️ 50/1089
It’s ok
More like sound of midver, got em’!!! Nah but this album I was actually kinda excited for and it wasn’t that great in my opinion. 9 songs 56 minutes is a little bit of a grind!
I like the retro-electronic dance sound, but many of the individual songs get too repetitive. Overall, a good, but not great, album.
I feel pretty much the same as my last LCD Soundsystem review. I find it more interesting that we are seeing more than one album from these 'middle of the road' type bands.
This was a lot better than the other LCD Soundsystem album I've gotten on this list. These actually sounded like songs and had structure. That said, the album is a tad too long. 3.0/5.0: Good
these songs were reminiscent of talking heads, which is to say they were pretty good. the problem is they were all way longer than they needed to be which makes it tough to keep listening
the more i listened the songs i found i liked so a win is a win
quitando que las canciones son más largas que un día sin pan, muy bien. más canciones menos largas con más diversidad lo harían sentir menos repetitivo
And yet again, I'm pleasantly surprised by this band with this album. It's funky, groovy, jammy and with a touch of electronica that doesn't turn me off.
Before Listening: I don't think I've heard of this band before, I've certainly never heard of/seen this album before. Excited to see if I know anything from it and/or to see why it might be on this list. The artist has only about 2 million monthly listeners. "Us V Them" - sounds like they remixed the Home Depot theme song The whole album is giving the vibe of stuff I had to listen to for my Jazz class in college. Not sure I loved that album as a whole. There's some fun stuff on it but it all felt a bit artsy without having a ton of substance. But it wasn't so fun that I was able to overlook the lack of depth.
Slow start, but built up to become a strong album in the middle and end portions, maybe not a full listen but had its moments
Track 1 - bird chirps nice. like last half. Track 2 - Like. Track 3 - Punky, Like. Track 4 - Atmospheric opener, brill. Track 5 - mid 2000's vibe, not huge on the sound, nostalgic at the very least. Track 6 - alright Track 7 - Like. read all the pamphlets bridge not huge on. Track 8 - for title track, unimpressed Track 9 - sad boy slop
Old new new old skool
Slightly biased because I remember getting one of these songs wrong in a pub quiz. Like the songs where they don’t sing much. Specific rating - 3.5 Fav song - someone great Least fav- New York I love you but you’re bringing me down
Mostly pretty fun and dancey, occasionally slips into annoying. The issue for me is that when a song you don't like comes on (and repeats uninspired lyrics) it does that for like 8 minutes! But the songs that I like I really like. Favourite song: All My Friends Least: Get Innoculous!
Alright is the main word that comes to mind. The mix of electronica and sort of alt-rock was interesting, and there were a few strong tracks but not incredibly consistent.
Funky disco beats and punk singing.
3/5 Começa com melodias e ritmo interessantes, mas cansa da metade para o final.
Not as good as Gold.
"wah wah wah this dance music is soooo repetitive". LCD Soundsystem has the misfortune of being a clubby act that got big among indie rock listeners, so now i have to hear people that dont understand what "groove" and "rhythm" mean bitch about how All My Friends is 8 minutes. i oughta drop this 2 stars for that alone... but i won't. because this is still a pretty good album. deserves to be one of the 1001? yes, pretty handily
All three stars are for New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down
Не плохой альбом но слушать его прям на постоянной основе я бы не смог
Good album! Bit long at times..like LCD soundsystem?, but not sure id put another album on by them. Be class to see live.
Heard this one before or at least songs off it. LCD are getting the nod of approval of me so far
I dunno this one just doesn’t really fully click for me. I think it’s the long songs.
Some really good grooves, and some that fall flat. Favorite track: Get Innocuous!
Okay for a workout
They remind me of “Cake” and also give me flashbacks to working in a restaurant where the prep chef forced us all to listen to shitty techno and repeatedly changed the Bluetooth password to the speaker.
I liked it more when the music was more dancey and less indie/alt-rocky. Not terrible, not great. It was good for background music.
A bit of B-52's and Meatloaf and Nirvana, recast into a more electronic soundscape form, usually dance, but sometimes just melodramatic.
Super
its was fine
Again not really my vibe
Quite enjoyed this. My rating 3.5
For some reason I thought this was Flaming Lips, which I was not excited for. But found it to be good background work music.
The 2000-aughts were kind of a musical wasteland for me in that I didn't really pay attention to what was going on. Part of this was being married to someone who wasn't into following new music, a big part was living in NYC and not driving around listening to the radio (and NYC not really having a good alternative station to begin with, or maybe they did and I just never noticed). Also I stayed real busy playing Guitar Hero. I couldn't pick Interpol or the Hives or Jet or whoever out of a line-up. But LCD Soundsystem feels like the biggest thing I missed out on. And when I hear it, I'm still missing out on it. I don't get it. And that's okay. Oh wait, it's not okay?
Not familiar with this band at all, not a bad listen at all. Thanks.
Some songs sound very electronic while others sound alternative like North American scum. Us V them sounds like something the talking heads would do. Watch the Tapes is the song I like best. Overall this album is not my style and probably won’t make one of my playlists.
Love the disco influence, and New York I love you is a certified twee classic imo
Listened to this while sitting in traffic, lowkey just pissed me off more
Feeling torn on this one. Does it remind me of Talking Heads? Kraftwerk? Or is it just millennial coworker music? Gunna give it a 3 because I'm not sure.
this was that kind of music genre that I listed to in 2020. Not my vibe now, but all it gave me house breakdance vibes
= the Beatles Some of this is so good. Some of it is so boring and bad.
I enjoy electronic rock and listen to it from time to time. While this album hits those notes I just couldn't get in to it. There wasn't anything that pulled me in or made me want to stay and listen more or again. I can't exactly say why since I don't dislike it in any way. It just didn't hit for me.
Ok electronic dance/atmospheric music. I there there is some Talking Heads influence. Fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it.
I really never understood the hype around LCD Soundsystem and I still don't. I did not think this album was very good. While the mix between rock and dance music is ambitious, Primal Scream and other groups have done a much better job of this. For instance,"Time to Get Away" sounded liked a Talking Heads knockoff. Also, I didn't like his voice or the reptitiveness of many of these songs. I have no problem with a 7 minute song, but there should be a reason for that length and I didn't feel that these were justified. Positively, I did find "New York I Love You, but You're Freaking Me Out" to be a pretty epic album closer. Althoguh kind of whiny abotu how NYC has changed over time, the lyrics were itneresting and the guitar and piano parts at the end were great.
More electronic than I was expecting. Some of the grooves are really good. Overall, it’s a good album. 3.5/5 Might listen again
A pretty inventive and experimental dance rock album, which I enjoyed more after a few listens.
I do own this, but apart from the big tracks I don't remember much. The first 3 tracks are actually kind of weak. Someone great and all my friends are brilliant. Like it less now, than I did before which is kind of rare. 3.5 rounded down Heard before? Yes Owned: Yes: 43/171(24%) Will I get. Already have
Good
Está bien. Interesante
6/10
fifa kinda vibe in whole album, opening song gave a very bad first impression, but then fifa sentiment made it better
Overall Rating 2.83/5 (5.67/10). Solid album. Probably won't listen to it again.
Not great. There were some parts that were pretty good, but there was a lot of weird, repetitive, or boring parts. Admittedly, I’ve never liked experimental music, so take this as you will.
3,5. Interesting and original
The album had some great beats.
A bit repetitive but funky and a good listen. I liked some songs much better than others. Loved that vibes and genres change throughout the whole album
Interesting album
I really like "New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" but hadn't heard anything else on this album, most of which was quite different. It was okay, but a lot of it was a bit repetitive, and all of the tracks were too long.
This album starts kinda rough. "Get Innocuous!" kicks this off like a full Daft Punk-esque electronic album, before "Time to Get Away" settles into a slightly airier EDM-meets-00's-indie-rock sound. Despite the insistence that this is a whole band, most of the album sounds like one guy(James Murphy) using computers in place of actual studio musicians. The artist bio (+pictures) on Spotify also give a strong impression that this is a solo project and you really have to dig deeper to realize that's not true. That impression makes songs like "North American Scum", "All My Friends" and "Us V Them" feel kinda aspirational... Who is "us"/"we"? What friends? All that aside, this is a solid record with a unique combination of danceable electronic music and indie rock that feels purpose built for the zeitgeist in 2007. This feels like one of those acts that will have another album on the list, so I won't spoil that experience by listening ahead in their discography (I don't care that much).
This record is celebrated for perfecting the dance-punk genre by balancing cynical, intellectual humor with genuine emotional vulnerability and infectious grooves. James Murphy dedicated the album to New York City, crafting a sonic landscape that pays heavy tribute to his heroes like David Bowie, Brian Eno, and Talking Heads. The centerpiece track, "All My Friends," builds a relentless, repetitive piano riff into a euphoric crescendo, widely considered one of the defining anthems of the 2000s about aging and friendship. "Someone Great" stands out as a profound electronic meditation on grief and loss, stripping away the band's signature irony for a stark, minimalist production style.
funky beats, good vibe
Middle of the road indie
It was ok, a few songs I quite liked but the rest was nothing spectacular
Good sounds, but very repetitive and very little dynamics. Feels tedious to me.
I wish this band had a different front man, or, better put, a different lyricist. "Someone Great" was a banger for me for a long time. That's a 5 even if the lyrics aren't perfect.
I was dating the quintessential "indie" girl my Jr year of college and this album was the official theme of these dance parties she would drag me to. Never really could get i to LCD but have a ton of crazy memories ties to it.
Hated the first track, but the rest of the album was pretty decent. Fun album.
There’s something in this album that makes me wistful, or maybe that’s because I just wrote this after the last track. Can’t remember much else of it.
This was a very interesting album but it's not my style at all. I really appreciate the experimental and sticky melodies, but the lyrics are very repetitive and the songs are pretty long. However I don't think it's a bad album at all, it definitely makes you wanna dance, but I probably wouldn't listen again.
alright. never heard of this.
Synth repeating. Is this EDM? Who made the list of "is this like?" I hear Bono and Bowie influences: and then even, can't believe I am saying this, Prince like vocals on the first track Get Innocuous! Us V Them did NOT, I repeat, did NOT need more cowbell ffs. Sound of Silver lyrics- the same 29 words repeat repeat ad nauseum for 7 min 7 sec. New York, I Love You wins the album for me because the synth beat is wonderfully missing on this track. Listened before? N Saved some tracks? Y Favorite track? New York, I Love You ⭐⭐⭐ Liked it. Saved some tracks.
I enjoy the consistent rythym. I did like the buildup in the beginning and started enjoying the album. Then Someone Great started playing and I felt as if someone was trying to electro-stimulate my brain in a nurocognitive laboratory (aka unpleasant and a tiny bit painful). Overall I enjoyed the Talking Headness of the album but I guess I prefer to stick to Byrne.
This album was always on repeat at my parent’s house growing up.
Very much noise music obviously Is it impressive? Yes, but not for everyday listening EXCEPT THE LAST SONG APPARENTLY Best = New York Skip = All my friends
over and over and over again.......
A band I have always wrestled over, there are times when they are fun and engrossing and other times they are incredibly derivative and annoying. This album walks that tightrope and has some highs like All My Friends but then gets more workmanlike and boring on Watch the Tapes and the title track towards the end of the album.
Well, I got bored of the 2-minute-long intro to the first song—too repetitive. Time To Get Away was catchy—it had me moving (albeit awkwardly). You could even say I *liked* it. North American Scum—okay, this is catchy too. The line “but in the end we make the same mistakes again” is quite timely. The next few songs got a bit repetitive to me—but they made for good house-cleaning tunes.
Sound of Silver – LCD Soundsystem – 3.2/5 Good music with nice vibes and a cool groove throughout. I think this was my first time hearing it, and overall it was an enjoyable listen.
This album has elements of Talking Heads, which I like. But there are lots of electro/dance elements that I don’t. A rare rounding up from 2.5*.
If I were forced to listen to dance music I might listen to this: raw, garage-style.
3.5* If I wanted to listen to dance music all the time, I think it would be 4+ stars. But since I don't, I think I'll round down. Enjoyable, enough, though.
Hatar ej. Mycket är till och med direkt fräckt. Rak 3a. Hade dansat.
Kul, lekfullt, bra stämning, men tycker sången drar ner lite.
heute nicht...c
It was alright.
1. Really vibing with this song. It was mostly instrumental but this one fucks. I was bopping and grooving around my bedroom. 2. I kinda forgot this one already. 3. WE ARE NORTH AMERICAN SCUM. 4. Scratched my ears somehow. Nice. 5. To be fair, I wasn’t really paying attention to this one, sorry. 6. Definitely a bop. I liked bobbing my head to this one. 7. I liked the lyrics and vibe of this one! 8. Okay! I’m listening to the last two songs with one earbud in which may be affecting my experience and this one is a bit underwhelming as the title song. 9. Obviously the stand out song on the album. This is the only song I ever knew from LCD Soundsystem before hearing the album and, I’ll be honest, it does feel a bit out of place on this album. Overall, some of the songs fit well together sonically (from my limited understanding of music) but mostly they seem kind of disjointed to me. I did like it overall and it’s very fun to vibe to, but it just didn’t do it for me as a whole. I may try and listen to it again at another time. 6.5/10.
I thought i'd hate this, the mainstream electro, dance rock of the early 2000s didn't do a lot for me! It wasn't as bad as feared though, even catchy in moments, but there wasn't enough here for me to want to revisit it.
It took me a while to get into this album but the style did grow on me throughout. I'm not usually a fan of the repetition that can come with electronic groups - but I'll admit there were a few tracks at the end that grabbed me like Us V Them, Watch the Tapes, and a great final track in New York, I Love You.
LCD Soundsystem is a playlist band. If one of their songs come up in a playlist its fun and find but I never actively seek them out. 6/10
Apart from a few songs, not for me.
Boring
Interesting sound I know this is something I could listen to, but it would take a little more time with this album and a few more listens. It’s a three right out of the box though.
This is such a hypnotic album. I found myself drifting between tracks, not really paying too much attention as one track ended and another begins. It's all so hypnotic. All My Friends is clearly a banger. There's a cult like feeling to the whole album, with mantras sucking you in. Rather joyous.
Oh man, huge blank spot for me, I was very much in the music listening mode in 2007 but LCD Soundsystem completely missed me. Maybe I was too old? I had a kid already. Not exactly a clubber Anyway this is not bad, but it's just something I don't get, like it's just build after build after build? I can see how it would be enjoyed by others, but it just washes right over me.
Really cool album. Some great tracks on here. Some of the songs are a little repetitive, but over all pretty good
Interesting. Makes you want to move, but gets a little repetitive. Good though for electronic dance music.
There were some earworms, but they were a bit annoying. Highlights were North American Scum and New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down.
It was alright. Not my genre I suppose, thought I do enjoy other tracks from them (e.g. Daft Punk Is Playing at My House). I mostly just remember being irritated by some sound choices, but its all otherwise passable.
Pretty cool
All songs make a more or less slow start with a few interesting instrumental transitions. A few songs you can actually listen to for those 5+ minutes of length and bop your head to. The overall tone of the songs does not vary very much. Not bad, but not outstanding.
This feels like it belongs on the soundtrack of a Gran Turismo or Burnout or something, which is great for me because I loved those soundtracks. This isn't entirely my normal genre but I definitely enjoyed myself (though I can see how some aspects of it might be very grating to others, or even to me on a different day). I can definitely see the disco influence in this pretty much from the get-go. I feel like they'd have been well served by doing what disco artists used to do - trimming 2-3 minutes out of the album versions of their tracks and then releasing the full things for DJs to use. The repetition doesn't do too much for me and there's not enough variation in the repeats to really keep my interest. Also, somebody please steal their cowbell.
I had their newest album and I liked it much more than I liked this one. This felt more functional... as in the purpose of this is to dance. Which I'm sure it's great at, but I'm not currently dancing, and it's not a hobby that I have (maybe I should). But, I didn't love it as an album of music to listen to.
Heard it before. It's quite alright but I guess it probably hit harder back in 2007. I'm just wondering why there are 3 whole meh songs on this album that have more streams than my favourite one (North American Scum) 3/5
Begin is heel sterk en fun. Op de helft wordt het wel heel repetitief en aan het einde werd ik er boos van.
I thought it was OK. No melodies really jumped out at me, nor was I ever deeply immersed into the music. But it was enjoyable. The most popular track "Someone Great," I found pretty annoying and repetitive.
6/10 I thought I would like this more than I do. 11-24-2025
Okay-ish record. I do like this band but they feel redundant after a while
Like it. Favourite track is Get Innocuous 3/5
Solsbury Hill goes hard
One of the greatest indie-electronic songs of all time, two or three decent jangly tunes, the rest irritating, bland and forgettable.
highs are high and the lows are low
It has a couple of cool grooves. Made me think of Talking Heads sometimes. Absolutely didn't like "All My Friends", the same background chords for 8min was a bit much. It was alright.
I liked my experience with the album. Had a lot of fun listening to Us V. Them and Watch the Tapes. Overall I wouldn't seek this out again but I can't say I would turn it off if someone else put it on.
Bit middle of the road but two good songs, #5 and #9
Favoriten Time to get away All my Friends New York, I love you but youre bringing me down
Super groovy but gets repetitive. I love this type of irreverent house music.
I actually really enjoyed this album. Not usually a fan of electronic music, but this was really good. My favorite was North American Scum. So good!
not my type of record all my friends is nice song good as work background music you can get focused on
decent Album
It was OK, unsure how much I truly enjoyed it. Harmless but not particularly thrilling. 3.5 stars.
Rating: 2.6 I have had my experience of this album ruined by already having listened to This is Happening before in my life. That album just makes this album feel like a tech demo in comparison.
Kind of mellow for dance punk. Mostly enjoyable to listen to but nothing stood out.
Unique sound and a couple standouts, but many songs drag on too long.
"All My Friends" is a decent enough song, but not really above a 3 here for this album so far
Trying really hard to be a updated talking heads. I wanted to like it but it gets repetitive and annoying
It's like these guys made songs 8x as long as a normal song with 25% of a great song idea. I appreciate the concepts on this album, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Actually, cut these down to like 3.5 minutes, and a lot of my gripes go away leaving basically only my "overly repetitive" complaint ⭐⭐⭐, I guess? I feel like that's too high and 2 is too low
3/5 Like a couple of songs, mostly misses, and the songs are long. Very modular. I like the drums a lot throughout the project.
Cool ig
I didn't mind this album. It was interesting to hear LCD Soundsystem's take on electronic rock music: I liked the builds and the repetition of motifs like electronic dance tracks. I think the vocals lacked quite a bit: it felt more like talking, and I found it kind of hard to sing along. Highlights include Someone Great and All My Friends. 3 out of 5 stars.
Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem: an album where James Murphy sings about being tired and disappointed, but somehow you’re supposed to dance through it. It’s upbeat enough to make you move, depressing enough to make you question why you’re moving. Perfect soundtrack for feeling slightly miserable in a cool way.
Pleasant
Not bad
Interesting in parts
I feel like the music that inspired LCD Soundsystem is all my favorite stuff but when it is synthesized this way it leaves something to be desired. I don't know what it is that doesn't land for me.
Gets repetitive but the last track is great. The middle is eh.
Nawet lubię ten zespół, ale ta płyta była dla mnie zbyt elektronicznie hałaśliwa. Brakowało mi spójności i jakiejś sensownej koncepcji. 6/10
Syltynn 3er
Kind of feels like a prototype of music that I like more...but not quite fully baked.
I liked this more than I thought I would. It starts out very electronic, but definitely drifts towards ending rock for most of it.
What if David Bowie and Prince had a baby at a dance club? Why you'd get this of course. Hooky if derivative, this is a bit too dance forward to be my cup of tea. But its got several strong songs ("North American Scum", "Someone Great", "All My Friends"), even if they sometimes stretch on a hair too long. If you wanna rage, this is the album for you.
Gostei das fundações de música eletrónica, mas nada me surpreendeu muito
great album!!
