The Kinks

I would not hesitate to put this on a list of my 10 favourite albums ever.

Tom Waits

I’ve never felt so conflicted about an album before. I feel like critically this album is terrible, but I just can’t help loving it.

Nick Drake
5/5
79 days in, and this is the first album I’ve gotten that I’d already heard before. Although I prefer Pink Moon, this is still an amazing album. One can only wonder what Nick Drake might have gone on to do had this album been a success.

N.W.A.
3/5
Radiohead
3/5
This album was my introduction to Radiohead. It’s not bad, just kind of boring and forgetful.
Prince
3/5
I can recognize that there are probably elements of greatness on this album, but it wasn’t for me. I’d give it 3.5 stars if I could.
Beastie Boys
4/5
I liked this more than I thought I would. Usually not a big fan of this genre, but this album had good writing + Beatles samples which also made it better (I’m really biased).
Jack White
4/5
Solid rock album.
Gram Parsons
3/5
This album kind of disappointed me. I read reviews for it on RYM beforehand and considering this aligns pretty good with some of my favourite albums, I had my expectations really high, and don’t get me wrong, this album is good, it’s just not deserving of the high praise it gets from some people.
Cheap Trick
4/5
Really great live performances
Miles Davis
5/5
I now feel obligated to listen to this album while studying and doing homework
Kate Bush
5/5
Really great album
The White Stripes
3/5
This album had two really good songs (blue orchid and the denial twist) and the rest of the album was just okay.
Wild Beasts
3/5
I feel like if I was forced onto a desert island with only this album as entertainment, I would start to like it significantly more or significantly less.
The Who
4/5
Going in, the two songs I knew from this were the title track and the kids are alright, and going out they were most certainly the best tracks on the album. The rest of it is still really good 60s rock though.
Aimee Mann
3/5
This album started out relatively strong but really fizzled out by the end. Definitely a victim of coming out during the CD era.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Shut up and take my money 🤜💰💰💰
Linkin Park
1/5
This gives me a headache
The Pogues
4/5
I had never heard of this album or band before listening, but as I was listening I could not help but think that I had heard this band before. After listening I clicked on their Spotify profile and realized that this is the same band that made fairytale of New York, which is my Dad’s favourite Christmas song and has been absolutely ingrained into my mind from him playing it over and over and over again every December.
What’s that? Oh right, that wasn’t a review of the album. Oh well.
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
There were elements to this that I enjoyed, but overall it was kinda boring
Traffic
4/5
I really enjoyed this. It wasn’t 5 star material, but it was really close to being.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
This was really good, it just wasn’t 5 star material.
Erykah Badu
4/5
I didn’t really think I was going to like this going in, but it was really groovy
Harry Nilsson
4/5
This was a really solid 4.
Fleet Foxes
3/5
Thai felt kinda bland. Definitely not my style.
Johnny Cash
5/5
Holy fuck this is so good. I adore Johnny Cash’s voice, and there are some excellent covers on this.
Arcade Fire
2/5
Really boring. I might have tolerated this more if it was like a half hour shorter.
Willie Colón & Rubén Blades
4/5
I wish I was smart enough as one of the other reviewers to come up with a tortilla chip joke.
Iron Maiden
3/5
The Afghan Whigs
3/5
This sounds really good, but the lyrics are kinda trash.
Violent Femmes
4/5
Literally acoustic punk
David Bowie
5/5
This was an amazing album for Bowie to go out on.
The Bees
3/5
I love the dreamy sound a lot of these songs have, but the lyrics are really meh.
Robert Wyatt
3/5
There were some elements in this that I enjoyed a lot more than others.
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
3/5
I sentence you to 2 hours of country music
Derek & The Dominos
4/5
I dunno why, but this album makes me think of vanilla ice cream.
Oasis
4/5

This is the second Beastie Boys album I’ve gotten, and although I prefer Paul’s Boutique, this is still a really solid album.
Penguin Cafe Orchestra

Paul Simon
4/5
Beck

Led Zeppelin
3/5
I struggled decided on giving this 3 or 4 stars. On one hand, there are some genuinely really good songs on this, but on the other hand, I found it to be overly long. If this was shortened to a single LP with the filler taken off I’d definitely give it a 4, maybe even a 5.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
4/5
This album slightly frustrates me, because it COULD have been a five, but isn’t.

Radiohead
4/5
Definitely an improvement over the other Radiohead album I’ve gotten so far on this generator (hail to the thief), but not by a whole lot. I’d probably give this 3.5 stars if I could.
Van Morrison
4/5
Spiritualized

Neil Young
4/5
This is my second Neil Young album in a row. Improvement over Rust Never Sleeps, but not by much.
The Kinks
5/5
I would not hesitate to put this on a list of my 10 favourite albums ever.
Blur
3/5
The Verve
3/5
Some decent songs on this (especially bitter sweet symphony), but it really did not need to be an hour and 15 minutes.
Killing Joke
4/5
The Stooges
4/5
Daft Punk
1/5
Deep Purple
3/5
Great performances slightly let down by going on far too long than they need to.
Throwing Muses
3/5
Didn’t particularly enjoy the vocals. Maybe if I spent more time with this album, I’d start to like them more, but I don’t particularly want to do that.
The Beach Boys
5/5
God only knows is quite possibly my favourite song ever.
Beastie Boys
3/5
I’m really shocked, because this is my third Beastie Boys album, and I’m not even 100 days into the generator yet. Paul’s Boutique was great, but they’ve gotten progressively worse from there.
Joe Ely
3/5
This is the most mid album ever. It’s not good, but at the same time it’s not bad.

3/5
The Police
3/5
The hits on this are great, regular tracks not so much.
The Black Crowes
4/5
The Who
4/5
Amazing live performances of great songs.
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
I liked this waaay more than I thought I would.
Cream
4/5
First two tracks are amazing and the rest is just good. This might be a really unpopular opinion, but I prefer Cream’s debut over this.

John Prine
3/5
Definitely not bad, but not really my thing
4/5
The Rolling Stones
4/5
I consider myself a pretty big Rolling Stones fan, but this being their best album seems to be the one opinion I don’t have in common with most stones fans.
Dr. John
2/5
Not very good.
3/5
I love that fact that the album cover is a picture of Mallard, a symbol of mid 1900s Britain, but other than that this album is just eh.
Pixies
4/5
Really good, but not good enough to warrant being the 60th top album on Rym. Maybe I’ll start to like it even more on relistens

Okay, but not really my thing. I’d maybe appreciate the live performances if I had listened to more Frampton prior to this. Baby I love your way is great though.
Talking Heads

Really great album, but not the best by Talking Heads. I’m waiting to get Speaking in Tongues and Remain in Light so I can give them both 5 stars.

When I listened to this album for the first time a few years back, it didn’t really make much of an impression on me (except for Mrs Robinson, a song which I love)
Looking back I don’t really know what I was thinking, and upon revisiting this album I have found it to be incredible
Bee Gees
3/5
Miles Davis
5/5
This definitely deserves a 5. I just have one issue with it, that being it is definitely a chore to sit through 1 hour and 45 minutes of prog jazz in one sitting. If I ever listen to this again, I will definitely have to take breaks throughout. Great album though!
Ramones
3/5
Not really my thing, and a bit repetitive.
Eagles
3/5
Pretty generic country rock. Not bad, but also not amazing.
Beatles

The Velvet Underground

Absolutely love this, though I am willing to admit if this was my first time listen, I would have absolutely hated it, as there is quite a lot about this album which takes getting used to. Definitely an album one should listen to multiple times.

Decent album, but that Across the Universe cover is atrocious and almost lowered my rating to 3 stars.
Nirvana
4/5
I feel like on paper this album concept shouldn’t work, but it’s just so good.
Keith Jarrett
4/5
This is very impressive for managing to stay engaging for an entire hour, but what holds it back from being a 5 is that this album just sort of feels devoid of any emotions which elevate it from just being background music.

XTC
3/5
Pet Shop Boys
4/5
Pink Floyd
4/5
I felt really conflicted on my rating for this album. There are several songs here which aren’t very good, but I still feel this deserves a 4 just for how ambitious it is and how interesting the story is. If this had some of the filler taken out of it, this could honestly be one of my favourite albums ever, but as it currently stands this is just really good.
