Reviews (page 8 of 8)

This album in particular just ANGERED me so very much. It felt very immature and college level band in the basement but are so incredibly unsuccessful. It felt like they started out and neither changed nor tweaked ANYTHING.

This, in fact, is *not* my new favourite band and I would like my money back, so put your little hand back into the cash register and give me my next album, please....Brad. Only good thing to say about this travesty of sound is that it was only a half-hour out of my life. Fking terrible. 1/10 1 star.

Nope. They're not.

Nope. Not my kind of music. I started listening to each track but just cut them short. I just cannot stand the screaming singing and grinding guitar playing with banging drums in the background.

This is a comp album with songs handpicked from their early releases specifically designed to make this band more appealing to audiences in UK. This is NOT an album and should not be on this list. Automatic 1/5.

Horrible!!

Just a lot of senseless screaming and not very complex music

twenty eight minutes of some okay sounding guys screaming at me

30/100 Why is a Compilation album on this list??? Was actually positively surprised but this is still a Compilation album and feels like it.

An other rock band with always the same songs...

Would have just been a 2 but lost one star for being a compilation album. Shouldn't be on this list.

pretty heavy...

Rock is more than just screaming and having your voice crack

Could barely get through it.

with an album name like that you are just asking to be ridiculed. doesnt help that it sounds like the most generic garage rock there ever was! painfully mediocre. its like if ai made some punk rock lol NNN

reheated and disposable. if art decorates space and music decorates time, this is auditory motel art

This is Need for Speed music.

urla urla pure... a me non piacerà mai.

As long as you scream hard enough your music becomes better right? This is just loud. Gave me active annoyance 2/10

like a slightly more modern punk band. not my cup of tea.

This..this is satirical, right? This is some meta commentary about punk music? A cynical ploy to see how many idiots will buy this garbage? Because if not, holy shit. Generic music, generic (bad) lyrics. The first track is a blatant rip-off of Blur. This is like rich kids doing a book report on what they think punk music is. I stand corrected—Slayer was not the longest 28 minutes of my life. This was. At least Slayer puts effort into their lyrics. Good god. I cannot begin to understand why this band is on this list, especially for a compilation album that seems to have been a blatant cash grab—they weren’t famous enough after releasing multiple albums, so they repackaged the best (!) songs off of them and released that. I’d give this negative stars if I could.

Good stuuf

They are very very wrong with the assumptive title. Perhaps "Your New Favourite Band to Shite On as they are complete ass and only listened to chav wankers" would have been a smarter title.

Pitched at 13 year olds who like jumping up and down. Really awful.

Mit my cup.

So many alternative obvious choices for early 2000s music and this is what is chosen? Derivative, repetitive, lame post-punk. To rephrase Bilbo Baggins, “No, thank you. We don't want any more pretenders, commercializes, or punk posers.”

I just couldn't finish the album, and I REALLY tried. This genre of music does not appeal to me at all.

The title was a lie

Every song was the same! Over and over and over . . .

SHIT with a couple F

The Strokes ja the White Stripes ovat onnistunutta vanhan kierrätystä, mutta tämä on vaan tosi tukkoista ja tylsää. Voisi olla joku tuotantoyhtiön keksimä bändi. Wiki: "The decision to release such a compilation was made with the intention of achieving mainstream success in the UK. The album was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die." Helppo kaveri tämä listan laatija.

Do you like commercial british mediocre wanna be punk? Then you might like this shit. Seriously, this very obviously doesnt belong on this list. Its apparently a "best of" album (although how you would establish that any of this shit is the best of their awful catalog is beyond me), and it sucks. 1/5

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

I got really annoyed by the music. I almost wanted to turn it off, but preserved. Bets track was the last instrumental track. God I hate this music style.

Definitely not my style. The lead singer is just kind of wailing

I don't like the Hives

day 22. well. I went from 80’s punk yesterday to 2000’s punk today, and… I’m starting to think I just don’t like punk. And I actually got excited to see this one because I liked Hate To Say I Told You So … but nope. it’s definitely not as annoying as the Gun Club album, and at least it’s a short 28-min listen, but I just don’t think I can justify more than 1 star here. This is about as generic as it gets. I always got the Hives confused with other bands back in the day and now I know why - it’s not just the generic name, it’s everything lol. I don’t understand why a compilation album is included on this list either. best tracks besides HTSITYS - Main Offender, Supply and Demand ? or maybe I just checked out after these 3 songs 1.5/5 rounded down to 1

Compilation album - auto 1

It’s a compilation so disqualified

It was okay for what it was but just not my style

Not my kind of music.

Unremarkable, stressful, and it gave me a big headache.

Jumping Jesus that really was shite

Not my thing.

Bad, noisy, lack of talent indeeed!!

The kind of record that makes me want to quit this project.

I was happy when it was over

In fact, not my new favorite band. Not sure why it would be on this list. Sounds like 100 other bands that wish they were The Clash but aren't.

All of my 1-star reviews so far are albums that piss me off, while this is just so completely forgettable that I can't even remember any single hook or riff from the album. So no, The Hives won't be my new favourite band

Found the first four songs of this completely fine, not in a good way but an inoffensive way. But I absolutely HATED Untutored Youth and Outsmarted - the vocal delivery was not for me, and I then found all the rest of it totally irritating.

freakin' punks

didnt like this at allllll

Es una recopilación.

Not my new favorite, maybe yours. Low effort songs.

Eh, I will never listen to this again. And I'm sad I listened to this album as much as I did for this review, cause it's not going to be a very good or thorough review. Everyone else pretty much already summed up what I don't like about this album. Kind of baffling this made it into this list tbh.

It's hard to get myself in the mindset of what this would be like to hear in 2004. The fact that this music surely has been in 100 commercials for a new iPod is not helping. I have to grade it poorly as an album, because 1) there's just not that much complexity, and we've heard more interesting and complex garage rock albums already, with more of a character, and 2) it's a compilation album, which as an album does what it needs to do (showcase their best songs), but mostly just feels like a lot of swings at bat. I thought it was well-produced, and I have nothing against the band. Just not a great album, I'd say.

Well this is a first. This is a complication best of album based on two albums. On principle I shouldn’t listen to this. But I’m in a generous move and listened to one song. Gave me hives. It actually wasn’t bad, but this is a ridiculous inclusion. No live albums or best ofs! That’s cheating. Also per wiki, if you need to create a compilation album because your regular albums didn’t catch on that’s a problem.

unfortunately, I can’t comment on this “album” since it’s not even an album at all. Great tracks throughout, however that doesn’t matter as this pulls from different albums by the hives to make a compilation. These tracks were not intended to be together in the first place and therefore to me means that I could not critique this as an album

Not really feeling their punk style. Not sure why, maybe just the singer's voice, but it doesn't catch me. Or maybe their riffs aren't as catchy, since punk repeats their riffs a lot. At least since it's punk, the album and songs are short Favorite song: The Hives are Law, You are Crime Worst song: idk, don't really like any of the songs

I like the Hives and all of these songs. They were fun and I enjoyed listening, but they wasn’t anything inspiring about it. A very alright collection, and since it’s a collection and not an album, it doesn’t qualify at all for me. 1/5

some say punk isnt about the words, well here's a proof by contradiction that it really is. you know how guys like max martin or mattman and robin have lyrics that are just a little bit off? imagine those kinds of words transplanted onto punk themes on a replacement-level punk record. that's how you get "aka idiot". the hives certainly have the sound and feel of those turn of the century voidoid revivalists, and the guitar work fits the energy, but there's no richard hell charm. it ends up sounding like plastic punk. they try to to do something like blank generation on "automatic schmuck" and "supply and demand" but dont really say much, least of all something resembling the critique that the best of neo-punk has. i reallly should enjoy this more but i plainly dont. the best thing they do is raw energy and the album really only picks up on raw energy tracks like "untutored youth" and "hate to say i told you so". to be fair, there are moments of sonic experimentation in "outsmarted" "mad man" and "here we go again" but they really add little. it's parody punk with some good guitar bits. maybe it's better live, but im not racing to replay it.

Didn't like this sound back then and 20 years older that hasn't charged at all.

Compilation album

Must be getting old as this is just very shouty. Last track is alright.

I thought I remembered liking The Hives, but it turned out I was thinking about The Vines. This album didn't do much for me, felt like very cookie cutter garage rock punkish music straight off the mega music label conveyer belt.

7/3/2022 - ALBUM #157 Today's Album: "Your New Favorite Band" by The Hives - This shit sucks. I feel like it reminds me a lot of what a lot of bands wanted to be in the early 2000s and what wasn't perfected until The Strokes, which is this really shitty blown out brand of pseudo-punk-rock that's going for this really crunchy aesthetic, but it just comes off so annoying here. Maybe it's just because I am sort of a snob for how music sounds, but this album's mix is just honestly unbearable to me. Everything feels way too overblown to have any actual tone to it, but it's also all placed equally in the mix so it feels super flat as the lead singer is just shouting absolute nonsense the entire time. The fact that the instrumentals feel super repetitive and generic doesn't help this fact either for sure. I mean, maybe there's a point to what they're trying to say here, but I just honestly don't want to listen to it. Maybe the generator thinks this is some sort of early birth of the emo music movement, but this doesn't really feel like it goes hard enough to justify itself as that either. I earnestly tried to give this album a few tries, but it is really hard to find anything musical about this at all. I feel like I might have heard one or two of the most popular songs here on the radio or something at some point, but that didn't leave me with the impression this was important and instead made me feel like it was generic 2000s early pop-punk and bad pop-punk at that. Overall, this album gave me a headache and it just feels like garbage they put on the radio at skating rinks to make it seem like the place goes hard when it's actually the most tame shit ever and I am grateful it is only 28 minutes long. Give this one a listen if you have bad taste lol Edit: turns out this is a complication album and it sort of clicked for me that this album really is not trying to be an artistic statement because it is literally the antithesis of that. Also, the last song on the album is just like really good and mixed perfectly all of a sudden and it makes me so confused Highlights: The Hives Are Law, You Are Crime Score: 2.5/10 one note and generally obnoxious 2000s pop-punk(?)

I'm too dead inside for this kind of energy. Also the music fucking sucks.

I’m so happy to see when I went to look up this band in the big book as to a reason for its inclusion on this list that it appears to have been removed from the 2021 edition. Thank god!

Ik heb het einde niet gehaald. Doffe ellende.
