It's impressive that Bob Dylan is so successful in music with a voice this horrible

Stevie Wonder
5/5
Long album, lots of potential here that I can't fully appreciate in just one day. I can tell every song is good, not sure yet which will click and be great. Time will tell but I'm not sure any are as good as Living For the City.
Favorites: Pastime Paradise, Village Ghetto Land
The Hives
1/5
I was happy when it was over
Madonna
3/5
Already knew some of these songs and “Till Death Do Us Part” was a good new find. I probably won’t come back to this one but I enjoyed it for what it was
The Band
3/5
I really wanted to like this so I listened on repeat all day but I was never blown away. Oh well.
I really enjoyed Chest Fever and wished more songs were like it.
I mildly enjoyed Tears of Rage but not enough to add it to my Spotify liked songs
LCD Soundsystem
4/5
Fun! I'll be back
The Byrds
2/5
Was lovely in the background of Crash Bandicoot but upon further listening I just wished it was The Beatles
Favorite song: It Happens Each Day
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Didn't know until today that Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed are two different people. I find Lou Reed wildly boring and so when I got this rec I was expecting Velvent-Underground-boringness but I had the wrong guy!
I was pleasantly surprised with this, but likely would've given it a 3 if my little mix up didn't put expectations on the floor. I really liked "Sing Another Song, Boys" and "Avalanche" was nice. I'll be back but only when I'm in looking to feel a very particular sad way
Elvis Costello
2/5
I couldn't stand this
Only ok song: "Less Than Zero" but even that I probably won't touch again
2025 edit: I gave this 1 star before experiencing a true 1 star album. 2 stars
Stan Getz

The Sonics
2/5
Just like when listening to The Byrds, I just wished this was The Beatles. But The Byrds were better than The Sonics so this gets a 2

I expected to give this album 2 stars since it's missing Pictures of Home, my favorite from Machine Head (3 stars). During Child in Time I was ready to give this 5 stars. 50+ minutes later I've settled down to 3

John Grant
4/5
TC and Honeybear and Queen of Denmark both sounded great on listen #1 which is very rare
U2
3/5
Guns N' Roses
3/5
Sweet Child of Mine slaps, but on first listen I found everything else to be sooooo annoying. I made a playlist of the songs I found least annoying: It's So Easy, Mr. Brownstone, and You're Crazy. I'll be spending all day trying to appreciate them.
End of day update: Mr. Brownstone is good, the other two I can stand
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Pink Floyd
5/5
Jamiroquai
2/5
This was generated for me almost 2 weeks ago but I'm only just getting to it now because this one feels like a chore to get through
Nirvana
3/5
I expected a lot from this (told Maggie this would be a 5), then realized I enjoyed this much more as a kid than I do now
Taylor Swift
2/5
I don't get the hype
Sonic Youth
2/5
Feb 6: Maggie gets this album and we start to listen together. She turns it off almost immediately and leaves 1 star rating "It stressed me out." I say I'd have enjoyed it on my own.
April 6: I get this album and it doesn't hit. I wait to be in a better mood and leave it unrated.
May 16: Maggie shows me Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore's collaboration with Bernie Sanders. This makes me want to like Sonic Youth even more. +1 stars for this
June 1: Accepting defeat. It stressed me out
Led Zeppelin

The Smiths
5/5
I've come back to this album many times and found something new every time - this time it was "Had No One Ever"
Long time favorite: I Know It's Over. It's so brutal
Haircut 100
2/5
The Waterboys
4/5

Moby
2/5
I already knew Flower from the Bring Sally Up/Down push up challenge. I'm happy the other songs weren't as annoying as that one, but dang what a long album (was I supposed to also listen to the B sides?)
2/5
Listened twice, nothing stuck
Prince
3/5
I already knew When Doves Cry (I prefer Patti Smith's cover) and Purple Rain. Darling Nikki is new and I enjoyed it. The rest didn't stand out

2/5
This album was generated for me weeks ago and I'd been holding off on rating it in hopes I'd enjoy it more when in the mood. It appears, sadly, I'm never in the mood
The Rolling Stones

Bruce Springsteen
5/5

The Cramps
2/5
Judas Priest
2/5
Rachel and I agreed it "could be worse" as background music in the car but that's the only nice thing we had to say
Deep Purple
3/5
3 Deep Purple albums, 3 3-star ratings. Child in Time slaps. The rest are forgettable
Peter Gabriel
3/5
Starts out nice and proggy then gets gradually more boring as it goes on
Billie Holiday
2/5
I think this would be nice in the background on Christmas. Unfortunately today is not Christmas
The Verve
4/5
Depeche Mode
4/5
Khaled
3/5
This was really nice at first, 4/5 stars experience. Then I thought it got so repetitive I wanted to turn it off, 1/5 stars experience. I realized too late it's because the Youtube playlist I played the album on was repeating songs. But regardless the songs started to all sound the same. 3/5 final answer.
R.E.M.
5/5
I already knew and liked a lot of these. Try Not to Breathe was a great new find
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
3/5
Pleasant but forgettable
Nitin Sawhney
3/5
Our villa got robbed and then we filed a report in broken Italian to the Carabinieri and then we listened to this album and I think that’s what this album was created for.
+1 stars for good timing
Nick Drake
2/5
I really tried with this one but I find it so wildly boring. Maybe I'd relate more if I were going through a period of feeling intense unrequited love, but I'm not.
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
Buono!
Suede
5/5
I miei preferiti: We Are the Pigs e The Asphalt World
Foo Fighters
3/5
ogni canzone suona come le altre canzoni
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Day 1 thoughts: I begrudgingly gave Led Zeppelin IV 5 stars since everyone else did, Stairway rocks, and I knew every other song (even though I wouldn’t seek out the other songs). On this album, I only knew Immigrant Song going in and the others seem more promising than I expected. Proggier vibes, reminds me of ELP at times. I need to listen more times to determine my thoughts
Many days later: really like Friends. Still need more work on this album but it's about time I rate it
The Stooges
2/5
I listened twice on the plane and then forgot everything about it
Arcade Fire
3/5
David Bowie
3/5
fav: The Secret Life of Arabia
Laura Nyro
2/5
Constantly alternating between pretty good and annoying, which is exhausting. I'd maybe enjoy this more if I heard one song at a time, instead of the whole album at once.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Not bad but nothing stood out over the songs I already knew (Tonight Tonight, Bullet with Butterfly Wings, 1979). Granted, songs that stand out usually do so on the second or later listens and I only listened once because this was two whole hours
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Would be 4 if it were shorter
LCD Soundsystem
2/5
Didn't enjoy this one but it might just be that I was doomed to dislike anything playing as I'm prepping calculus lectures
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
4/5
It's Shameless June! This album reminds me of a time period during which I felt more shame. Good thing we're not there. Also, I know people shit on Muse but I'm going to rate this highly because it's Shameless June.
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Peter Gabriel
3/5
I've been surprisingly bored by Peter Gabriel's solo stuff. A bummer because I had high expectation since I love Genesis's Foxtrot
Sigur Rós
3/5
Hjartað Hamast (bamm bamm bamm) sounds exactly like you'd expect a song titled "Hjartað Hamast (bamm bamm bamm)" to sound like
Neil Young
4/5
This was nice. Look into this album more if Neil Young ever returns to Spotify. I think On The Beach was my favorite, but that might have just been the song that was on when I was paying the most attention
Aretha Franklin
3/5
Respect slaps. I didn’t notice the other songs but was excited when the album looped around and Respect came on again
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Listened twice. We all know Proud Mary but was anything else supposed to stand out?
Emmylou Harris
3/5
John Lennon
3/5
Black Sabbath
3/5
I liked the opening. The rest was nice enough too, but less memorable. Then I went and listened to Paranoid and I think I liked that album better
ZZ Top
2/5
not much to say here
Leftfield
2/5
I actually kind of enjoyed Original, but the other songs are so boring and there are too many of them
The Go-Go's
3/5
We Got the Beat was so much more annoying than I remembered, but Our Lips Are Sealed and This Town weren't bad and they prevent this from getting 2 stars
Roni Size
1/5
Even worse than Leftism (2 star electronica album from two days ago)
Jacques Brel
2/5
I didn't enjoy this at all but I'm not sure I'm the intended audience. I'll give benefit of the doubt and give 2 stars instead of 1. Maybe I missed some cool lyrics due to not knowing French
Hookworms
2/5
David Bowie
3/5
This wasn't bad but I expected more from a Davie Bowie album. I prefer his proggy side and this was a little too chill for me
The Residents
2/5
Of course this album is horrible to listen to but I did laugh out loud when Birthday Boy came on
Prince
3/5
The Divine Comedy
3/5
Much easier to listen to than Duck Stab/Buster & Glen, but also much more forgettable. results in the same rating
Nevermind, last minute +1 more star because Through a Long & Sleepless Night is nice
Def Leppard
2/5
Photograph was my favorite. while I don't have any real complaints, I listened twice and didn't leave with a desire to come back to any of these

Nine Inch Nails
2/5
Someone on Reddit recommended these guys to me (and it got 160 upvotes):
"Also based on those same bands plus liking Yes and Kansas, I bet you'd dig the Nine Inch Nails discography. Spans the gamut of musical styles of rock and was often placed side-by-side with Radiohead in 90s music articles discussing bands that could "flirt with mainstream success while being groundbreaking and unique". Still a relevant band today, since the two main members recently won an Oscar and a Grammy for their soundtrack work on movies like The Social Network and Pixar's Soul. Don't ignore the second release, Broken, just because it's an EP. Ditto the three most recent releases, the "EP trilogy". The discography spans from 1989-Present and has 11 albums/EPs you'd want to hit."
After this album, I'm not sure he's right that I'd like them. But I'm down to give another try one day
