Well, sensibilities have certainly changed since 1980. Enjoyed the sound. Didn't enjoy the lyrics.

I don't get Radiohead
Great. No notes. Much better than Surf's Up.
Not even ashamed. This was a banger when it dropped, and it's a banger today.
This really surprised me. It's not my normal fare, but I found myself captivated. Best new discovery so far, just over 200 albums in!

Best Song: Killer Queen, obvs. Second Place: Brighton Rock - hello, guitar solo, I love you. Best Use of Stereo: Right Here. Honorable Mention because it doesn't fit AT ALL but I love it so so much: Bring Back Leroy Brown. May Jim Croce be remembered with the greats. Least Fave: In the Lap of the Gods Side note: Tenement Funster. Just, yes.
I feel like I'm the edgy, not-like-other-girls heroine in an early-2000s teen movie montage. Best Song: Here We Go Again. Would listen again unironically. Not a fave, but fun. Most Nostalgic Song: Hate to Say I Told You So. Put this on while you're brushing your teeth to physically transform into Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You. RIP Heath Ledger. Runner Up: The Hives Are Law, You Are Crime. Seems unfair to put the instrumental on top, but I enjoyed it the most, likely because it is literally the only song that didn't sound 100% like every other song on the album. Overall, I didn't DISlike it, but I also didn't LIKE it, either. 3 stars? It's not good, but it's not good /in a way that I enjoy/.
Perfect Circle. I like it. Apparently not a popular opinion. It must be a very influential album, because the sound has been recycled and bastardized quite a bit over the years.
Yessss Beach Boysssss. Noooooot my favorite Beach Boys album, as it turns out. Don't Go Near the Water - big ol eco vibes, man I'm so glad we solved all that. Take Good Care of Your Feet - yep. Student Demonstration Time - favorite so far. Till I Die - I like it.
As it happens, I dislike double albums because I have the attention span of a goldfish. Some real gems, some forgettable cuts.
I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this. I was processing some intense emotion at the time, though, and it's not a double, so there's that. I'm tempted to give this a 4 but I will certainly regret that, so 3 it is.
Better than the Megadeth album, so 4 stars.
This is a rave & that's cool. I like Climbatize. Also Breathe.
Ooooohhhhh I really like this. Love the crackley vinyl effect and the choice of samples. Excellent for chilling out. Omg I love Frontier Psychiatrist.
The tracks are very long but the groove is very groovy
Awwwwwyeaaaahhh! This is my kind of cheesy funk.
The album as a whole is better than any individual song. Sounds like it could have been recorded last week- the timelessness of the sound was surprising.
Hmmm. Noisy.
I did not enjoy this one
Aw yeah, here we go!
Noisy
Yee, and I cannot stress this enough, HAW. 5 stars.
I really want to like Beck. I feel like I SHOULD like Beck. It just refuses to click with me.
For some reason every song feels like it was written in a Theory II class but that makes me like it more
Docked 1 star for length
Cool but not precicely my jam.
Weirdly forward-sounding and backward-looking at the same time.
Yes. Only yes.
Liked it less than I thought I would.
I am old.
Well, sensibilities have certainly changed since 1980. Enjoyed the sound. Didn't enjoy the lyrics.
To be fair, the first 4 tracks were interesting. I must not be smart enough to understand this music.
I'm a sucker for Cohen. I'd love his poetry if it were on a metal album sung by Gilbert Gottfried. First We Take Manhattan, Everybody Knows, and Tower of Song are truly exceptional.
Pure jazz. Was not in the mood for it, but can appreciate the technical mastery.
I loved you in the morning
Grew on me toward the end
Can I give one album more than 5 stars? This is the quintessential pop album.
Would have been 3 stars but this was absolutely unacceptably long
Grime is not my thing, but upgrading to 2 stars for originality.
I didn't think I would like it this much. I forgot just how influential she was.
I LOVE the arrangements and instrumentation. Love the lyrics. Cannot get into the lead singer's vocals at ALL.
The best album about mechanized armadillo tanks I've ever heard.
Infectious. The best parts of a live album.
The quern
Hmmmmm
3.5 but I gotta pick one and I wasn't feeling it today.
Why is a lackluster rendition of the Moonlight Sonata adagio on here? Who knows! I applaud the bizarre choice. Also, spectacular 80s synth cheese from start to nearly finish.
Funky
Great. No notes. Much better than Surf's Up.
Longer than necessary, but not unpleasant
Quintessential nostalgia album. Also, I'll never be able to separate Hell's Bells from Trevor Hoffman's stint with the Milwaukee Brewers. Good times.
Ok...it got me. I didn't like it at first, but the weirdness just grew on me.
3.5 rounding up since I rounded the last Beck down
Not my favorite Cohen album, but even so
3 for actual quality, 4 for personal enjoyment. It grew on me.
Pure 80s cheese
If it's going to be a double, it's got to be a very enjoyable double. This was not that.
Fantastic
This really surprised me. It's not my normal fare, but I found myself captivated. Best new discovery so far, just over 200 albums in!
Jazzy, funky, glorious.
Note to self: Zappa's instrumental stuff is much better than the vocal stuff.
Never has Midwestern teenage white boy trailer-park rage sounded more viable. 5 stars for nostalgia, catchy hooks, and dextrous rhyming. 0 stars for like...everything else. So...even 3?
I really thought I was going to like this, but I did not.
Unequivocal 5 stars. Exactly my taste.
Oops I've been missing out my whole life
I would like some of whatever drugs he was on at Bellevue.
Again, how have I been missing this all this time?
I did not want to like this.
NGL if there were no vocals, I wouldn't hate it.
The man sucks, but this project is the first time I've listened to his music. Probably won't listen again, but I can't deny that it's extremely well-made. Shame to find a great album that I'm only willing to play once.
Absolutely unhinged, and I'm ok with that.
Wow
Hot take: better than Songs in the Key of Life. I said what I said.
I'd like to give this 6 stars please
Well that was much weirder than I expected.
Turns out I like later R.E.M. better than early R.E.M.
Not my favorite Springsteen, for sure.
Ooh look! All the parts of Radiohead that I didn't like with none if the parts I did!
The smoothest of smooth and doesn't overstay its welcome.
Man I love Ella's voice, but I hate anything after doing it for 3 hours straight. 5 stars for quality, dropped to 4 for unreasonable length.
Idk what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. I really enjoyed it.
That was fun
No notes
I started out indifferent but it won me over
Idk why this is so low and Portishead isn't. It's fine. Same vibe.
Would have been better without the weird screamo guy
Jeez I don't always mind the sleaze, but this was borderline unlistenable lyrically. Star for the music, but good grief.
This is a level of "commit to the bit" that I had previously thought unattainable by mere mortals. Did I enjoy it? No. Was it an unforgettable experience? My brain is still in knots. 3 stars.
Jeez an hour and a half though?
This is smooth af and I am HERE for it. Good lord, that piano tho.
I just don't get Bowie, and I've come to accept this about myself.
This was a real pain to find for whatever reason. Anyway, I have no idea what's going on, but I guess I don't hate it?
Sorry, Neil, it's not you; it's me.
You know, I don't like punk, but I can do pretty much anything for 20 minutes.
I was so certain this would be an easy 5 stars- what's not to love? Sinatra! Jobim! Bossa Nova for days! But somehow it's less than the sum of its parts. The bossa nova sounds so much less sincere in the voice of a classic crooner. I had not listened to this one before, and it's definitely not going into my regular rotation.
I don't hate country, but it's tooooooo long
I'd take this over another Neil Young album any day of the week.
I recognize that it is neither groundbreaking nor virtuosic but my god is it enjoyable.
At the risk of being the least original of all reviewers, this was...ok.
It's atmospheric, just not my jam.
I don't get Radiohead
What a weird and pleasant surprise.
Y'know what...it was actually pretty good.
Well, I didn't hate it, despite the VASTLY overstayed welcome. I still want to hate it because I think the concept is dumb, but most of the songs were pretty witty. The most reluctant 4 I've ever given.
This was...fine.
I will personally give you $5 if you can tell me where on earth I have heard Soldier Blue before, so much so that it was etched on the wrinkles of my brain and activated like a sleeper agent. Great album. Dragged a bit in places, but overall great.
It's real goofy, but I dig it
Pure pop perfection.
I had a good time, but I do not think it belongs on the list.
It was better than I expected, but it really rides the high of the single.
It's punk
Much less punk than yesterday's album. Another reviewer aptly called it "the Byrds, but punk."
Was going to give 3 stars but I accidentally listened to the version that had the cover of The Rose and that was wild.
I wanted to like this more than I did.
I canNOT with the skits. I'm already not a grime fan, and the skits weren't even separate tracks; they were part of the tracks with the songs. Not for me.
I like on the nose, absurdist stuff, but this almost winds all the way back around to unpleasantly earnest. L
Well this was...fine.
I see why it was removed fron the list. Best listened to on headphones at work while concetrating on spreadsheets or something so you can ignore the lyrics.
I think grime is just not for me
In fairness, it was probably pretty fresh in 1999, but all I can see now is the background to a 2004 JC Penney commercial.
I hated this album
Very...ambient. But inoffensive, I guess.
Feels much more recent than 1968
JAZZ
Not me giving a double album 5 stars. Tis the season of miracles. Honestly, though, this is fabulous.
Say what you WILL about Licensed to ILL, but this album slaps from start to finish.
Expectiation: spooky devil rock Reality: West Side Story No notes
I just had the weirdest dream that a Frenchman whispered nonsense in my ear over the soundtrack to the less exciting parts of a James Bond film for 30 minutes
Um ok I loved this
May revisit later, bur it took me 3 days to finish because I was so bored.
I have no idea how to rate this. Conceptually, fun. I like the idea. Musically? Ehhhh....soundtracks are such a specific thing that it's almost impossible to judge one without the context of the accompanying visuals and story. It's technically fine, I just don't...care...about the music, and it's trying so hard to put a picture in your head that it actually wouldn't work super well as a soundtrack. Idk. 2 stars for exectution, 4 for ambition, so we'll go even 3.
This was really unpleasant and I' having trouble finding the redeeming qualities.
Not even ashamed. This was a banger when it dropped, and it's a banger today.
Well I would have enjoyed this a lot more if the pedophile's first song wasn't about a high school dance.
RIP Ueck. I forgot Burn On was on this album. 5 stars for the tears. (And honestly it's a 4 star album without the nostalgia. Newman is a fantastic lyricist, whatever you think of his voice)
Another review calles this "normcore" and I've never felt so seen. The cheesiest 80s cheese to ever cheese. 4 stars.
I am so burnt out on shoegaze guitar and I know everyone reading this is going to be like "DiNoSaUr Jr IsN't ShOeGaZe YoU pLeBiAn!" but I swear to god if Tarpit isn't shoegaze then I don't understand what on earth is. I liked Bug better. So there.
Yeah it's covers, but it was fun.
The veil between jazz and country is thinned by a bunch of guitars off their minds on LSD. Easy 4 stars.
I'm straight up not having a good time right now.
I love pop but apparently not Madonna. Fun but not for me.
Offensibly inoffensive
Astonishingly listenable
Why do I love this so much
Even more than other electronica albums on the list, this felt like background music. Not unpleasant, but not exactly revolutionary, you know?
Fast.
We have reached peak jam. That's it, they used it all up. That said, it's not offensive, just overlong.
Shame this album's rating has been tanked by old dudes defending the honor of Pink Floyd from these delightful twinks.
It's weird and I like that
