Honestly it's not like, my favorite Beatles Album but obviously it's good
li it
A really long album with a couple semi big hits and a lot of beatles filler songs. I actually liked a couple of the filler songs more than the hits but I got really fatigued halfway through. 6/10
Not what I was expecting. Its an album that is all over the place. Each song unique and different from the one before it. I may have judged the bug boys too harshly before. Definitely had lots of songs I was NOT a fan of lol but in general, a lot of these were beautiful and fun on their own. Fave song: Rocky Raccoon & Blackbird Overall rating: 3.5/5 (you can’t give half ratings but I am being honest lol)
First song is ok, nothing special Dear Prudence is lovely
Not a Beatles fan by any means, but it had some genuinely un-Beatles-like songs on there that I quite enjoyed. Some stuff needed to get in the sea and stay there.
Lots of variety and interest but too long and a bit meandering
A weird mix of an album. 50% timeless bangers, 50% meandering pish. Back in the USSR the highlight, Piggies the lowlight.
If you throw me 30 songs and only 5 of them are really good, it is not an amazing album. Still, had some catchy tunes and it was just a bit above average. I get the hype. I do not share it at all.
Some pretty good songs and then there’s the drug fueled, possibly Manson inspired crazy songs …. Sooooo yeah
Somewhat incoherent album with a lot of freaking. In addition, there are gems on it.
The Beatles were, undoubtedly, a phenemonal band (not that I needed to say that) and some of their best work can be found on this album. Unforutnately, even The Beatles can't escape the problems that arise from making a double album. It's unfocused, and the desire to include everything makes for a chaotic listen that at times is less than engaging. By no means bad, but It's not an album I want to sit down and listen to again and again.
Some incredible tracks alongside some of my least favourite entries in the entire Beatles discography. I’m not even talking about Revolution 9 which is at least so strikingly bizarre as an audioscape that it illicits some kind of thought provoking reaction out of the listener. Wild Honey Pie is one of the worst things ever committed to recorded audio in history and its only saving grace is that it’s a short track. Otherwise I can’t fault the production on the White Album. Even McCartney’s grandma songs sound nice sonically despite still not being for me even remotely.
Despite a number of great individual songs, this album felt like a band trying to figure out what comes next--with highly varying degrees of success across the 2 discs. Easily could have cut half the songs and not lost anything in the process. Another way of putting it: if this wasn't an album by the Beatles, I doubt it would have made this project.
Ehhh...It was ok
This was all lot. I suppose The Beatles succeeded in what they were aiming for, as this album is extremely chaotic. There’s tons of experimentation and genres flying about and at times it was honestly exhausting. You definitely feel the length of this thing, I wouldn’t say it flys by, but it’s not to say I didn’t enjoy a good amount of it. There are numerous stand out tracks, and most surprising of all is, I absolutely loved Revolution 9. This is an album that I definitely will have to relisten, but it’s a weighty task.
Non male ma lunghissimo
This is a hard one to judge. Let’s just say they could have put the best in one album and forego the second.
3.5
It’s too long, some songs are really good
This album is an unparalleled testament of the band’s artistic evolution and experimentation. The album features innovative uses of traditional rock instruments alongside unconventional ones. With a melancholic yet lush backing, showing the band’s willingness to blend rock with classical sensibilities. However some songs weren’t very memorable and sounded the same.
lowkey not that good
A strong album with many great tracks and a few timeless ones, as well. This album might not represent the best of The Beatles, but it certainly represents some enjoyable music by the band. Overall, the album was weakened by some questionable, if not bad, tracks, such as Revolution 9.
Okay. Familiar songs I liked but lots of experimental stuff
You start off The White Album thinking it may be one of the best things ever made. Then you hit Wild Honey Pie. Nobody told them to cut this 0:52? I find that hard to believe. Nobody told them to cut Piggies? Rocky Raccoon? The Beatles needed an editor. A good editor would have cut Don't Pass Me By and The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill. But at least those are somewhat passable. The second album starts off the same as the first - out of the gate hard on the first two tracks. Then, eh. I know this is supposed to be some amazing album. And if you took pieces of it, it would be. But it's too long. Too unorganized. Too unfocused.
Some really great songs mixed with boring. Cutting this down to a single album would have made it infinitely better
There's a good single LP album in there. In hindsight, it would have given loads more to the 'unreleased/newly discovered bits' market that seems to be drying up nowadays.
Has some great ones but overall isn't very cohesive (no I don't know if that's on purpose), and has some real bad ones as well (I also don't know if that's on purpose). However the great ones still pull the rating up to a 6.3/10
Interesting, not best.
I’ve never understood why people hold this album in such high regard. The great tracks are really great but about half the songs are B-side level. It really needed some fat trimmed from it.
I think Yer Blues and Helter Skelter were the ones I had not heard before that I liked. Basically a blues and a proto-grunge song.
Couldn’t get into it as much as I would have liked. Big fan of a few of the hits like while my guitar gently weeps but need a few more listens
Some good some just average, too long.
Surprisingly enjoyable, i can see teenage girls loving this in the 60s
It was alright. A few good tracks and plenty that were just okay.
a couple good songs, i feel people only treat it so well bc its the beatles
too long
Ob-La Di, Oh La Da is the second song that came up on shuffle for me and I quite like it.
A bit overrated to be honest, too many novelty songs
Better than I thought it would be - quite an eclectic mix of styles given their poppy roots. I know I'm supposed to be enthralled but I can't get past the over-hype.
Bangers
So obviously, everyone has heard of the Beatles and has listened to at least some of their hit songs without any effort on their part. I'm that 'everyone', and this is the first full Beatles album I've ever listened to on purpose. My best friend in high school loved them (still does) but I was into other music at the time, and being a stubborn teenager I wasn't interested in trying them out. This still isn't my preferred style of music to listen to, but there are still several good songs on this double album, like "Blackbird" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I personally have a preference for the acoustic numbers ("Julia", "Long, Long, Long"), because of the emotional resonance they contain. Other songs mix in blues, folk, classic rock, and psychedelia (which I'm learning I only really like in measured doses). The arrangements are of course melodic and I will admit some of the more strange lyrical and musical moments kind of put me off. In the end, it's not my favorite but I don't hate it, either. I think this album requires more than one listen, which I am open to doing.
Compared to Revolver or Rubber Soul, it really doesn't justify its length. There's one of two great songs, but it's mostly just songs.
This album i'm pretty sure is my favourite Beatle's album. it's got the least amount of "bad" tracks on it, having a 26 run of like "alright" and a few goodish songs. i see the beatles like concrete to a house... you need the beatles but i'm sure as hell not looking at the concrete and being like "OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER".
This is definitely one of the better Beatles albums without any doubt, with many timeless hits that are still significant today. I just have two problems with this album: at times, the songs' positions on the album were so varied, like they were picked at random. As well, the album was just too long, and it left a lot of filler tracks that were really unnecessary. Also, never really been the biggest fan of the Beatles, but it ain't bad.
It's a great album. Not my cup of tea so struggled to get through it all . But creative album the storytelling is amazing.
DONT FUCKING SHOOT ME PLEASE. So I’ve never listened to an entire Beatles album from start to finish. Up until now, I’d only known like 7 songs and that’s it. It should have stayed that way. Was this something incredible, unheard of, a blessing to the ears at the time of its release? I have no idea, my PARENTS weren’t even born at that time, my grandma was a little kid. Listening to it now for what it is, I just don’t like it that much. I don’t get the hype. I guess it was something fresh for the time, but it’s just not for me at all. I’m not arguing its place on this list, it for sure deserves it. I mean, c’mon, 24 times platinum. This is more well deserving than 90% of shit on here. How are you gonna go to India to meditate and get inspiration for songs and still write such eh stuff? Again, maybe for the 60’s it was WOW. Most of the lyrics are nothing innovative or clever, stuff repeats a lot. Don’t get me started on songs like Honey Pie and Revolution 9. The second disc is exponentially better. Why are all of the hits on the first one? While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a banger. It’s the only song I was aware of on this album. It slaps. The rest is either okay or trash or, well, Revolution 9. Honestly, I’m so conflicted rating this. I can’t really pick, I’m somewhere between a 2 and a 3. The first part really left me with no hope, but it kinda gets good later on. Still, there was no need for an album this long with so much garbage filler. I also try to keep that in mind while rating. If it were shorter, it would have been easier. I’m very unsure, but I’ll lean towards a 3. I hope I don’t regret my decision later on. I was really sure it would be a 2 at the start, but it kinda grew on me as it went on.
Muito longo, né?
It's full of the stuff that makes the Beatles so lovable. Too full, actually. There might be a 5 star album in here if it shed some sillier songs. Excessively self-indulgent at times, and brilliant at many others. I'm very glad it exists, but I won't hold it close
I've been doing this album challenge for about a month now, and it was only a matter of time until I got the Beatles. Here's the thing, the Beatles are overrated. Sure they have a lot of good songs, but man, some people worship them. That that, this album has some good stuff on it. There's a ton of radio hits on this album, and some of my favorite Beatles songs on here. Buffalo Bill, Rocky Racoon, Revolution, Helter Skelter are really good. There's some real stinkers on here too, though. Some songs that are just bizarre, or long and indulgent. It makes the album too long and by the end, it was really hard not skip some of the tracks as they dragged on. Revolution 9 was over eight minutes of noise. It made an album that ballooned to 90 minutes. If they had more restraint, there could have been a better overall album.
It’s amazing how many styles of songs the Beatles pulled to gather. So many hit, several… not so great songs. Ultimately not their strongest album even though they had some of their top hits
first beatles album lets go. did they start the trend of panning or isolating audios to one ear or another? oh my god this is the blackbird album!! oh wait i also know the song I Will, i wonder from where. Also this birthday song slaps lowkey. Look man, im not saying beatles doesnt have bangers, they obviously do. But to rate this album a 5/5 solely because its a classic doesnt feel right. I like less than 50% of rhe album, and thats being generous. So realistically this is between 2.5 to 2.75. But i guess i'll punch up
3.5 (with hey Jude and Revolution 4.0) (93:33, 30 tracks, 9th album, 1968) Rock (60’s pop, folk) Technically this is an eponymous album but no one wanted to call it that on their 9th album. Album is super long (double album) and has a lot of self-aggrandizing filler in my opinion. I know people want to 5 this album but it just isn’t that good - only because it’s The Beattle’s I think. They were struggling (Ono) at the time to keep the band together – weird recording in that they work largely as individuals recording at different times, sometimes same time different studios. By this point the Fab 4 was rich enough to waste a ton of time in studio – they recorded 100’s (literally) of versions of the same track until they liked one and would overlay other best tries. John and Paul were famously cold to each other (Ono) and many site this as the beginning of the end. Really it’s like 3 egos competing for time on one double album + Ringo (he gets one song.) If Hey Jude and the better version of Revolution were on this album I’d give it a 4, if they trimmed all the garbage and kept those two it would be a 5. There is just too much filler. (I gave Rubber Soul a 5.) Basically only a handful of Beatles songs and a bunch of solo project – pile on in their and say fuck it – they’ll eat it up (and oh boy did they ever . . . ) Not the best album on all time by far, not even the best Beatles album. Revolution 9 is just on their to annoy the shit out of people – they could have made it 20 minutes longer if they wanted to. Factoids – • The Maharishi album (Mahesh Yogi) – all four went to India on John’s advise to get away, a few stayed (John and George the longest) • By far the best George Harrison album – George really came into his own on this album • People criticize The Beatles for not using their platform to get more political but they snuck some stuff in here. Blackbird is an outstanding song against racism. George’s Piggies • And. . . of course Charles Manson had to and fuck up Helter Skelter but when you put Revolution 9 on the album that’s what happens Beattles Album cover – plain white sleeve, embossed with their name, number albums created a sense of value. Presses 1 – 4 went to the four members. #1 sold for a huge amount of money to Jack White. I guess I just think every album ever is okay!
That's exactly what I needed today - easy to listen to, sing along, and simply enjoy.
I'm not against the Beatles. I just think it's dumb that they have so many albums on this list. seven, are we sure? seven? seven??
Some good, some very good, some bad and then 'Revolution 9', which was fucking awful. It did seem to go on a bit too long. It was a good album, but nothing more.
6/10
I really thought I was going to love this album because I love The Beatles, but it turns out there's a LOT of songs by them that I didn't realize existed... Great songs on here, also some not so great ones...
There are so many great songs on here and also so many stinkers. Really interesting seeing all of the Beach Boys, Black Sabbath, and Stones parallels though. Did not need to be a double album lol
A scattergun selection of what was good and bad about the Beatles - some faves, some bangers, some blatant examples of 'what the hell were they thinking'...
Been awhile since I listened to Beatles lyrics closely and I was generally appreciating the talent in the writing. The songs that hold up are the ones you generally would probably guess as they've been remixed and redone in so many media versions over the years since. Glass Onion however, my first response is "how insufferable to reference your previous songs in some tortured multi-layer metaphor" and upon looking it up, apparently it's Lennon specifically making fun of people being insufferable about their lyrics and reading too much into them. So I guess, fair enough?
There are other Beatles albums with better songs in fewer tracks. Not bad, it's still the Beatles, but many of the tracks are just average. Favorite track is while my guitar gently weeps
3/5 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9... 9...
Not their best work, a few good songs.
181/1089 Back In The USSR is a good start. Then “Ob La Di, Ob La Da, life goes on brah” has always been a very cringeworthy lyric to me i’m more familiar with Beyoncé’s rendition of Blackbird but the original is ofc powerful too. Then it’s undercut by Piggies right after it for some bizarre reason Helter Skelter specifically feels REALLY like the precursor to 90s Britpop. I got blisters on me fingers is from THIS album?! I quite liked Cry Baby Cry but especially the acoustic outro which should’ve been a full song?! Good Night is actually a very beautiful and calming way to end the project, it’s SO Mary Poppins-coded. contender for my fave Beatles song? It was a good double album, i had a nice time with it and i wouldn’t say it noticeably dragged (though i did do each disc in separate sessions) however i think if it had been edited down i think it could’ve been much stronger to me faves: Good Night, Helter Skelter, Julia, Cry Baby Cry, Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Back in the USSR 66/100
Album #2 January 13th Favorite Song: Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da I've got mixed feelings about this album. The music contained inside of it is good for the most part. There doesn't seem to be any general theme going on, but there are a lot of love songs. Some of the songs in it are really good and nostalgic for me but there are others that I would prefer not to hear again. I would definitely listen to some of the songs by themselves outside of the album but I don't think I would spend the time to listen to the whole thing all the way through again. There are some catchy songs that I could definitely see myself singing in the car. While there were some "bad" songs, I do appreciate the amount of different instruments they used throughout the album, it was cool hearing some variation between the songs. Because of the good songs inside of it I will rate this a 6.5/10.
Good tunes but at least 15 songs too long
A lot of influences in the sounds of this album and when it hit, it was great. Still a few duds hanging around
👍🏼
didn’t listen to all of it
Man, this one is rough. Overall disc 1 of this album is like a 4 or a 5, but the second disc is all over the place. Every song is either something crazy and groundbreaking, or its forgettable and...bad. And like every song it alternates. Like I'm sorry, I dont enjoy listening to "experimental" music. And maybe there's some cultutral context I'm missing, like maybe this album was really important when it came out, but I don't think its aged as well as something like Revolver or Rubber Soul. Overall, I like just over half of the songs on this album, and 10 or 11 of them are on disc 1. So the question I have to ask myself is do the great songs make up for the bad ones...
Decades ago I was reading Helter Skelter, the book about the Manson murders, and it mentioned this album a lot. So as I finished reading the book while listening to this album. For a Beatles album it's good. Long, but decent. It also has my favorite Beatles song on it, While my Guitar Gently Weeps. Granted, Eric Clapton played guitar on that tune so that could be why it's my favorite. It's one of their weirder albums, no real theme behind it, so that makes it an interesting listen when you could get a Blackbird or Helter Skelter. Not a bad album but it's still the Beatles so kinda mid in my opinion...
Blackbird forever
I have a fairly controversial opinion. I think the White Album is the Beatles' most overrated album. Don't get me wrong, there are some fantastic songs on here. If every song on this album was on the same caliber as Blackbird, it would be a 5/5 easily. However, there's also sooo much filler here. Songs like Why Don't We Do It In The Road never needed to exist. For that reason, it's a 3. P.S. I am Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da's biggest defender. People who hate Paul's "Granny music" just hate fun. Y'all need more whimsy in your lives.
Yeah, yeah, yeah… a three because of a few songs but I never listen to them anyway.
The album is good, but it doenst have any markeble song. For the beatles thats a "problem", but not a big one.
First Beatles-album I listened to in full and in one play. The variety is impressive, so are some of the songs. As a whole not 100% my cup of tea, still it was fun to listen to some music history.
Too happy clappy for me
It has certified bangers but quite dull songs as well. Perhaps they will grow on me over time. 3/5
Unlike anything they’ve done before, and all the better for it. Incredible vocal performances and some genuinely moving moments are the highlights for me. Not my favorite Beatles album by a long shot, but it’s still pretty great.
I've listened to this album a few times over the years but despite that many tracks seemed new to me so I guess they weren't so memorable. There are of course quite a few well known classics mixed in. It's clearly The Beatles style, although there's big mixture of track styles. I'd often heart snippets of tracks that sounded like some other group. I don't know if this is The Beatles borrowing from others ot vice versa. Overall a decent album that I'll probably listen to again sometime, but to me not a blockbuster.
Eher langweilig und zu lang. Blackbird ist aber ein Banger
Classic!
not my typical but i liked parts of it. faves were ‘back in the ussr’ ‘while my guitar gently weeps’

General enjoyable. A few songs are not my cup of tea and kind of annoying. 3.5
Please don't make me listen to Beatles twice in one week. Maybe some day
My dad got this for X'mas as a double CD from my mum ages ago.
Honestly didn't love it
mid. sehr abwechsligsriich, aber zum teil so chilbi musig style woni ned so fühle. my guitar gently weeps esch en banger tho
Fine. Obviously this shows off a lot of their technical ability, but as an album for me it was a bit much
🥇ob la di, ob la da 🥈blackbird 🥉martha my dear HM: back in the USSR, while my guitar gently weeps, i will, revolution 1, honey pie
the first time I listened I was sleep deprived and irritated so the whole thing was just background and meh. Second time was pretty good I was tweaking
Weird. Some good, some terrible. Don't understand the hype.
Liked it
I have such mixed feelings about this album. While I think some of The Beatles best songs are on this album, it also contains some of their absolute worst. It's such a polarizing album that I can't give it much more than 3 stars. Can't Miss Songs: Dear Prudence Mother Nature's Son While My Guitar Gently Weeps Blackbird Skip Songs: Revolution 9 Piggies Good Night Martha My Dear (fuck off Paul)
didn’t finish, too long, but liked the vibe
Some all time bangers, but too long and tonally too all over the place
Some killer, hell of a lot of filler. 3.5/5
I've never listened to The Beatles before, but now understand the appeal. Long album, but great to listen to.
If this album was 12 tracks it could probably be one of the greats of all time. As it is, there's a lot of absolute nonsense filler twaddle and I'm just struggling to deal with it! 3.5 stars
Halfway decent. Not a huge Beatles guy! But Dear Prudence has been stuck in my head since I heard it yesterday so it's at least that good. For me, it's a vocals thing -- the voices are not really for me, and I'm awful at listening to lyrics. But the rest is great.
gosto gosto gosto
I have thoughts on this. Its a bit of a mess. I know the Beatles aren't necessarily lyrical behemoths, but what is it with these dumb kids bops about characters with alliterative names - Sexy Sadie, Rocky Raccoon, Bungalow Bill. I like Glass Onion with its meta lyricism. "The Walrus was Paul" is a great tease, John knew what he was doing. I don't like Revolution 9. I can't buy in, and I'm down for experimentation, so lets applaud the "creativity", but this is barely a song and it sucks. Mainly the best moments are the songs I already was familiar with - Back in the USSR, Blackbird, Revolution 1, and definitely While My Guitar Gently Weeps. But also shout out Happiness is a Warm Gun, and Ringo's Good Night. Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da and Dear Prudence are more tolerable than I was expecting. Overall, like most double albums I think its bloated and there would be a great single album in there. Maybe something like this: Back in the USSR Dear Prudence Glass Onion Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da While My Guitar Gently Weeps Happiness is a Warm Gun Blackbird Helter Skelter Revolution 1 Revolution 9 (would be a bolder statement in a 10 track album) Good Night That album would be 4 something, but the bloat drops it for me. 3.4/5
This really felt like a mix of experimentation. Most of the tracks flew past my ears. A few were good and Revolution 9 felt like something I would hear in a modern art gallery.
As someone who doesn't really care for the Beatles one way or another, this was pretty good particularly for a long album. It flowed well, and I only got bored at the very end (thanks Revolution 9)
Album is unnecessarily long, but Blackbird is such a great song
I should maybe listen to this more, to appreciate it more. With one song I was like 'this is really fun' and I looked at the title and it was Yer Blues, which makes sense, I like blues.
Strong start, but was really waiting for it to be over after a while.
There are a lot of Good songs but the album is all over the place. Sounds like they just threw everything this album. Still a Good album mostly
Ready for this hot take? I think The White Album is one of, if not THE most overrated album of all time. Sure, it's got some undeniable Beatles hits on it that are great. And now the big BUT: there's so much crappy filler on here that drags the album into the mud. At least half of it could be trimmed out and this could have been one of the greatest albums of all time. Half of the album is iconic and sprinkled in around all the good stuff are all the demented 60s fairy tale sounding crap. Alright, the good parts of the album? You already know all the standouts on this album. There are too many to list. Some moments during my listen that really stood out to me this time: the sick bassline on "Dear Prudence" - I tried to focus on the bass on the whole album more this time around and it really is quite good - the guitar on "Blackbird" is the peak of the album - and "Helter Skelter" still absolutely slaps. People will automatically rate this a 5 because it's the freaking Beatles and they've been told this album is a masterpiece and they must like it. Hard disagree, it's a 3. A 4 could be justified if you really like a lot of the dreck. Its way too long and, yeah, sure, there are a few great songs but you have to dig them out from under piles of rubbish. There. I said it. Get wrecked White Album.
Loved some. Enjoyed some. Skipped some.
Let me start by saying there are some really good songs in this album. But the rest is an absolute slog. It's too long and I found myself having to push through with surprising effort. It's weird that 79 albums in, this is almost the one that derailed me (plus getting sick).
Not a fan. Found it very repetitive and rambly. So many songs weren't memorable.
Pre: ? Post: childish and gimmicky st times , amazing at other times, really can tell who's song it is per track
Nice
The highs are high, the lows are low, but it's mostly just okay
Some songs in here I really liked but they’re surrounded by so many less enjoyable songs. Another of those that could be a really strong album if it were cut down. Fav song: Blackbird Least fav: Revolution 9
Some gorgeous and iconic songs, lots (and lots) of kind of fine songs and then a couple of truly shit songs. Obviously it's an iconic album but I'm more than happy to only hear the songs off this album that have made it to the greatest hits. Favourite Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da (or Blackbird) Least: Revolution 9
As a standalone album, 4/5 As a Beatles album, 3/5 Some killer, but mostly filler. As John would say, there's too much of Paul's songs about "granny shit" on this record. Comes off twee and childish in parts. But it's still the fuckin' Beatles, so whatever. 3/5
This is the second time I've ever listened to a Beatles album, which frankly is an embarrassingly low number for me and because of that I think The White album was a difficult place to kick off my Beatles journey. Mainly because the album sounds like a compilation album, it's a complete mess, it's twice as long as it should be and you could cut at least 40% of the tracks. It would be excusable if there was a through line throughout the tracks but they're all over the place. Do Helter Skelter and Blackbird need to be on the same record? (I know, I know, it's two different discs but it's still one album). That being said, the highs are phenomenally high. Dear Prudence, Julia, Cry Baby Cry and as already mentioned, Blackbird and Helter Skelter, are some of the most influential and best written songs ever there's no denying that and I think that is what gets it the plaudits. But if you are thinking of an album as a singular piece of work, not just 30(!) tracks it's just not doing it for me the same way it does for others. It feels like the emotion and feelings in the songs gets lost amongst some filler. I believe one day I will be a true Beatles fan and I read this back the same way you would read back a year 9 Facebook status but that day hasn't come yet. I assume Will will find this at some point so shout out to him, please don't take it too personally.
A couple of good songs but I feel overall it’s a pretty mediocre album considering it’s the mighty Beatles!
Some great songs but a lot of other ok ones. An album which might have been better if edited form to one LP rather than a double
A double album needs to tell a story to stay interesting and engaging. While there are classics on offer, including my all time favourite Beatles song, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, I grew a bit weary even before sides 3 and 4. Double LPs are often indulgent. Pair that with an indulgent band like the Beatles, and I don’t know that you can call the result a total success. Fun to be had, sure - Rocky Raccoon was a lovely discovery. But this is a very low three. ✨
What can be said about this album that hasn't been said before. There are songs from the beatles that I really like. There are songs that I appreciate. There are songs that feel like circus music. There are songs that are happy clappy outdated 50s bubblegum. I've always felt like The Beatles didn't belong to me; they were a part of music history, but they belonged to the baby boomer generation. Songs like Get Back and Say You Want a Revolution don't feel dated to me; they feel accessible to me and move me the way a contemporary rock song would. There are a lot more songs now that move me now that I've heard more of their albums. I'm going to rate this album based on how much I would listen to it again. In that regard, it's kind of chore. How much do I listen to Beethoven or Bach or other music history?
Another great Beatles album
Eh, it's not my favorite Beatles album. Needs an editor, feels really all over the place.
The Case for Dissonance: Why The Beatles and The White Album Fail to Resonate The Beatles hold an undeniable, monolithic position in modern musical history, yet their immense influence does not automatically translate into universal personal appeal. While recognizing their revolutionary impact, a critical listener may find their extensive catalogue, and specifically the sprawling 1968 double LP The Beatles (commonly known as The White Album), lacking the cohesive artistry or authentic emotional depth found in other rock contemporaries. For many, the band’s aesthetic often prioritizes stylistic range over substance, culminating in a sound that can feel more saccharine or experimental for the sake of it, rather than genuinely compelling. The primary hurdle to appreciating The Beatles lies in what some perceive as a foundational lack of necessary grit or ambiguity, particularly in their early work. Their sound, often characterized by bright harmonies and relatively straightforward melodic structures, can feel too polished or overtly cheerful, failing to engage with the darker, more complex psychological landscapes explored by artists in the late 1960s. Their ubiquitous presence and cultural mythos further contribute to this detachment; the sheer weight of expectation and overexposure can diminish the music's ability to surprise or resonate on a deeply personal level. While their studio innovations are lauded, the resultant sound occasionally lands closer to clever novelty than enduring emotional truth. This critical detachment is crystallized in the challenging experience of listening to The White Album. Far from a unified artistic statement, the album is a notoriously fragmented 93-minute patchwork, reflecting the internal division and growing autonomy of the four band members at the time. It is precisely this lack of centralized vision that becomes its biggest drawback. The record whiplashes between starkly different moods and genres—from the acoustic tenderness of "Blackbird" to the raucous proto-metal of "Helter Skelter," and ultimately, to the impenetrable eight-minute sound collage of "Revolution 9." This jarring juxtaposition creates a profound sense of incoherence. Instead of showcasing the synergy of four geniuses collaborating, the album serves as a document of four individuals competing for space, resulting in an uneven collection where the brilliance of tracks like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" is undermined by the inclusion of songs that feel like unfinished B-sides or self-indulgent sonic explorations. In conclusion, while the historical significance of The Beatles is beyond dispute, their music, especially in the context of the messy grandeur of The White Album, fails to connect with those who value stylistic consistency, emotional depth, or unified group performance. The album, often celebrated for its breadth, is more accurately characterized as an exhausting anthology of disparate ideas. Ultimately, the personal dismissal of The Beatles is not a denial of their place in history, but a simple rejection of a specific aesthetic that, despite its polish and fame, simply misses the mark for contemporary, critical listening. Thanks Gem, we agree on something
I have this album. Best songs: Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Mother Nature's Son & I Will. There's some other songs I like, but unfortunately this album also has Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9.
Decent album not my favorite but it’s good
A producer who wasn't scared to say "no" would've cut like 10 tracks off of this. Still great though.
Going 3. I feel like it’s wrong to go lower. But for me this album has some of the greatest songs of all time (Dear Prudence) and some of the most grating on my nerves (the oh bla di thing)
Even The Beatles suffer from "your double album didn't need to be a double album" syndrome. My father is going to disown me.
Sure, there are obviously some iconic great songs on this album. But there’s a lot of fat that could have been cut - it did not need to be this long.
I was eight when this was released. I remember a few of the songs. Mostly, the Beatles passed me by. By the time I reached early teens and my music genes were awake, the beatles were long gone and the likes of Bowie and Bolan were figures of my fixations. Some of the tracks are not so bad, but some are, so I'm going to give it a 3 star. Over long though, and I found myself listening to half a track and skipping.
Decent
Ayyy, another Beatles album. I guess I'm five albums deep into their included discography now. A little scary to think that I will soon be Beatle-less for the remainder of this long, arduous list, though I guess I have other artists to fall back on. I'm hoping that Sgt. Pepper will be the album to cap off their discography. Anyways, the White Album. I didn't like this thing when I first heard it and have held some degree of animosity towards it in the year or so that I've been a Beatles fan (I, famously, have mental breakdowns about album length and double albums). Within the last few weeks, however, I've started to become a bit of a Whitehead, so it's fortuitous that the site has presented this album to me now. I'm looking forward to re-lending a critical ear to this. Yeah, this is pretty good. While the varied genres are impressive on their own, the vocals are what really steal the show for me. I've heard the common criticism that this would be the perfect Beatles album if [insert whatever songs you dislike here] were removed, and I'm inclined to agree. I can definitely see why this album marked the beginning of the end for the band - it's pretty scatterbrained at times. That being said, I do enjoy the ride this album takes me on. "Back in the U.S.S.R." is a great opener, and is easily my favourite opening track from the band ("Drive My Car" and "Lonely Hearts Club Band" are tough competitors, however). McCartney's faux-American vocals come as a bit of a surprise, though they work quite well with the subject matter of the song. The sampling of aeroplane noises gives the track an excellent ambience, and I'm a big fan of the thudding percussion and piano in the background. The variety of the track is what really wins me over, however. I like the break in the middle of the track, and that guitar solo shortly afterwards which drives the track to a solid finish. Great song through-and-through. "Dear Prudence" is an excellent follow-up. The lead guitar riff has a very interesting sound. It's earnest and reserved at the time and I'm a big fan of how the song builds on itself. Lennon's vocals are fantastic - likely my favourite of his. The lyrics are pretty great, too. The innocence lends itself nicely to the aforementioned instrumental. Everyone calls "Back to the Shack" by Weezer gay and cringe for referencing the band's history in a tongue-and-cheek fashion while at the same time praising "Glass Onion" as some work of lyrical genius. Society. Guess I need to know the work rules. This track is one of the slowburns. I've always appreciated the novelty value of this tune, though I've only recently come to value it as a good piece of music on its own. As I've just mentioned, the novelty lyrics are a fun time. I enjoy the drama in Lennon's delivery. The instrumental is surprisingly dynamic. The strings pair quite well with the jittery percussion, and I enjoy how the song comes apart near the end. Above all else, I appreciate the Magical Mystery Tour references. I'm glad that album has made it onto the list in some form - it's absolute bullshit that these nimrod curators couldn't extend an olive branch to the US issue of Mystery Tour. "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da". It's a classic. Classterpiece right here. This was the only Beatles song I knew for ten sordid years of my life, and it fills that one-song niche pretty well. Very accessible while also showcasing their musical craft pretty effectively. McCartney's vocals are fantastic - a strong contender for my favourite showing of his. The instrumental is equal in quality. The piano and bassy guitar work surprisingly well with one another, and I enjoy how the other instruments work around this pairing - especially that sweet sax during the chorus. Another great tune from start to finish. Truth be told, the album goes out to lunch for a little after this. I'm not sure what the consensus on "Wild Honey Pie" or Bungalow Bill are, but they lose me. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Happiness Is a Warm Gun" are well-respected classics, though they don't quite do it for me. Maybe I'll come around to them in time. "Martha My Dear" is a good opener for side two. The instrumental is great - I'm always a sucker for some good strings, and I like the trumpets in the middle of the song. McCartney's vocals are, again, very good. I'm not sure about the specifics of this album, though I feel like they were really giving it their all and experimenting with the vocals and songwriting. It's a regular highlight of the album. "I'm So Tired" is a good follow-up. Always a fan of a little McCartney/Lennon duet, and I like how the song intensifies midway through. "Blackbird" was an early favourite of mine. Can't fault an acoustic interlude, and McCartney's vocals are pretty good. Yeah, I talked about vocals again. We're not even halfway through this album and I'm already a broken record. Bleak. "Don't Pass Me By" is a favourite from Ringo. The chorus is strong, and that violin is pretty great. "Julia" was another early favourite of mine. Very pleasing lyrics, and I like how the song repurposes the general sound of Dear Prudence into a more restful, easygoing song. The pivot towards a more mysterious, pensive sound midway through is the highlight of the song. I'm a big fan of how seamless that transition is. "Me and My Monkey" is a good time. I've always loved that song title, and Lennon's frenzied vocals are paired nicely with the rough, jittery electric guitar. "Revolution" is a good tune. Lennon's vocals are, again, very good, and I like how the acoustic sound is paired with the electric guitar. Truth be told, I prefer the single version, though this rendition isn't half bad. "Cry Baby Cry" is a good late-album track. Some pretty good lyrics, and I especially enjoy that chorus. "Good Night" is an excellent closer. Strings are a slam dunk on any song, though they're especially good at giving me a sense of closure. I quite enjoy how the song deepens overtime, as well as those great backing vocalists. It's a Beatles album. I shant think of consulting the book for why this is in here. This album has a solid critic backing and was an obvious smash hit, though I'd trade this slot for Magical Mystery Tour any day of the week. White is interesting for how individual it feels when compared to the collaboration seen on the band's previous outings, though that comes as somewhat of a detriment with how smashed-together many of these songs feel. Still. For what it is, there's some damn good tunes in here. It got me to write a ludicrous amount of words about this thing, after all.
Liked this when I was younger but I think I just enjoyed The Beatles because I was supposed to. Some tracks I enjoyed on the revisit: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Rocky Raccoon, Helter Skelter. Not an album I would want to listen to every track on but has a mix of styles throughout to make things interesting.
It's way too long and bar a few good pop songs I'm really underwhelmed.
This was a strange ride. It has some undeniable classics, but it also stuffed with a lot of filler that feels like a collection of experiments. The low points drag on and make the whole album feel disappointing compared to the band's other masterpieces.
It was very long. Some hits, but the length really made it drag on and it made it worse.
It's got some all-time songs, but it's also got a lot of duds. On both sides, there was one song each that really took me out of it. "Wild Honey Pie" and "Honey Pie". Coincidence? I'm not sure. Either way, it felt like they were just trying to throw everything at the wall here to see what stuck. Some of it is still sticking. "While my guitar gently weeps" is such a phenomenal rock song, and it really displays the growth and change that they went through in such a short amount of time. And hot take - ob-la-di, ob-la-da is a good song. There was just too much filler in between all of the hits. They have much better albums in my opinion (sgt peppers is maybe the greatest album of all time)
already listened to it, big beatles fan but not one of my favourite beatles albums. not sure what it is about the mixing but i find it a bit annoying in comparison with their other stuff around this time

3/5, a pretty good album but I do think the number of songs eventually tired me out and I started to struggle not to find it repetitive by the end. But each song individually is amazing, just collectively due to the album length the songs eventually became just a bit overwhelming. But still, a good album.
Drags on a bit. Great hits but a lot of misses
It’s fine. Classic but doesn’t stand out that much for my ears
Appropriately named
This album is good but probably could have benefited from a good chucking of the double album concept. Yep, cut the run time in half by throwing out the filler tracks a you'd have a great album
At first I was like oh boy, a classic album I've never heard and genuinely curious about. I became so weary of the album, imagine my surprise when I discovered I still had 14 tracks to go. There were some good songs on here, but honestly as an outside observer who is pretty neutral about the Beatles, I feel like they were way too high on their own supply at this point. If you cut out the nonsense It could have been an EP.
This album is like a trifecta of some really good, some OK and some pretty rough tracks, and it always leaves you second guessing as to which sweet you're about to pick out from the jar. An ambitious, career defining statement or overindulgent and lacking in quality control? The answer probably lies somewhere in the middle, as does my rating. I'd be quite content for this to have at least half an hour shaved off from it, and I'm unlikely to ever take in the full experience again, but it is an album you should hear before you die, as, well, it's The Beatles.
Has some classic bangers, but the ending just wrecks it, why would you waste everything on 8 minutes of garbage ambient?
The album was long, bloated, and disorganized. There was no real theme or reason for those songs to be together. But I do need to acknowledge, that's why the album exists. I never was a big fan of the Beatles before, but I do want to say some of the songs here were bangin. Loved blackbird and good night. Rest is kind of take it or leave it. 3/5
Some good songs but experimental in others. Will never forget hearing Rev 9 for the first time though
Boring
Mostly an easy listen but I still can't get all the way into the Beatles. I have been enjoying just how simple some of the songs are and can see how they could just pump out songs/albums since there wasn't THAT much production going on and it was really just the four members.
A real mish mash of ideas. Hit and miss but Dear Prudence, While My Guitar, Blackbird, Julia and Helter Skelter are great. The other version of Revolution is better than the one here though. Rocky Raccoon should be awful, one of Paul's ditties but this time set in the wild west, somehow I love it. Bizarre at it is I like Ringo's closer Good Night too. It has to be said, there's a lot of rubbish here though, and I'd never listen to it end to end.
Disc 1 + Helter Skelter is all I need! If this wasn’t a double album, it’d be an easy 4. Despite some AMAZING tracks (Dear Prudence, Obladi, While My Guitar, I’m So Tired, Blackbird), Side 1 still has some Star-removal-worthy moments (Piggies, Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?). Side 2 is just pretty messy; enough said really. Constant sparks of experimentation and creativity here, but it would be wrong to assume that they aren’t calling upon lot’s of other influences, and at time downright mimicking them.
A mixed bag of a Beatles album but still some seminal tracks from Fab Four. Helter Skelter is about as heavy and it gets, Back In The USSR is a fun Beach Boys send up, some lively ballads like Dear Prudence and Julia and we even get some Harrison songs with My Guitar Gently weeps. No real theme to this record but they could do what they like by their 9th release. 3.5/5
There are some bops to be sure but the best tracks are essentially americana, blues & rock n’ roll studies. Bit long innit.
I mean come on it's the Beatles. Everyone likes the Beatles, you have to. That in mind I don't LOVE them, so a whole album is definitely a bit much.
If you throw enough shit at the wall, some of it sticks. Unfortunately, now your wall is covered in shit. That's this album. I'm offended that we've allowed this to have the cultural cut through that it has. Move "...Gently Weeps" to disk 2, throw disk 1 away. Maybe include Blackbird as a b-side or an album closer. Then you've got a 3.5. There's so much average filler on this, it's obvious the bravado the band had at the time resulted in them just releasing anything they wanted whether it was good or not. As it stands, this is a 2.5 I'm generously rounding up to a 3. Don't @ me
Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Feines Album aber viel zu lange.
Holy shit this is long
Siouxsie & the Banshees version of Dear Prudence is so good that the Beatles sounds like a cover. I feel like I'm saying this a lot on here, but this album is too long, and it's so clear which stuff is good and which stuff is filler. Overall though it's still good. I preferred Rubber Soul though.
While my guitar gently weeps är överlägset bäst o räddar albumet!
Det är en fin beatls
Al final me gusta más
Oof, a double Beatles album just two days after getting the double George Harrison album. I'm kind of Beatled out. But lets push through. This one was kind of all over the place, with a bunch of good songs, and a bunch of bad. Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da was a lot of fun. While My Guitar Gently Weeps was a pleasure to hear. Don't Pass Me By was nice. Overall it was still a pretty solid album, and could hit a 4 star rating if it were slimmed down. Best song: While My Guitar Gently Weeps
a few nice hits, I love while my guitar. But overall, it's a pain to listen
1/3 genius, 2/3rds children’s music
really long and kinda everywhere, got some amazing standouts and some lowkey stinkers
Definitely some bangers. Plenty of weird filler though like do we really need Revolution 9? To that point, I feel like this album did not need to be a double album. Did Blackbird always have an annoying clicking happening in one ear throughout the song?
They stole every single note from Houmous & Chutney apart from this album! 3.2 7/30 While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I'm not a fan of the Beatles, ya they were influential blah blah I know. The music just doesn't do much for me. This album i liked more than most others I've heard, although there are a few real clunkers in there too. Revolution 9 was cool and not what I expect from them, almost made me go 4 stars.
some choice songs (blackbird, USSR) but a lot of abstract filler that didn't engage me
honestly more misses than expected. it's clear why the hits were the hits, though. 'i'm so tired' is a surprise! like it a lot. maybe because i am so tired. blackbird is a masterpiece. i tend to like their slower songs, surprisingly. some of them are darker or weirder than i remember.
Enough material for one really good album. Not enough for a double album.
I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected to, but it isn't my favourite of the 3 I've listened to so far
It's sooo long
Probably the best Beatles album.
3/5
I have a hard time caring about the Beatles sometimes. But this one has enough songs I like.
3.5
some classics but also some stinkers...very patchy
7/10 Theres definitely a high 4* album hidden in here somewhere, but nobody should be allowed to get away with Piggies, Rocky Raccoon, Dont Pass me By and Why Don't we Do it on the Road as consecutive songs, not even The Beatles. Highlights: While My Guitar Gently Weeps Helter Skelter Back in the USSR Revolution 1 Happiness is a Warm Gun Blackbird Mother Nature's Son Also heres my submission for the global 'edit the White Album tracklist to make a coherent record' competition: 1. Back in the USSR 2. Glass Onion 3. Blackbird 4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps 5. Sexy Sadie 6. Mother Nature's Son 7. Savoy Truffle 8. I'm so Tired 9. Happiness is a Warm Gun 10. Long Long Long 11. Revolution 1 12. Revolution 9 13. Good Night 14. Helter Skelter
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" destoa do resto do álbum, o qual tem uma ou outra música boa. A grande maioria das 30 não são nada demais, inclusive algumas são bem ruins, irritantes e prepotentes.
This album is way too uneven. There are some absolutely brilliant songs on here, but there's a lot of trash as well, with some just-OK stuff peppered throughout. Take the best of these songs and you get a densely packed, 5-star, single album. Taken as it is, though, it's just a mess that averages out to 3 stars.
This remains one of my least-favorite Beatles albums. It feels disjointed, unfinished, almost rushed to release. A lot of good ideas not fleshed out. Throughout listening I am constantly reminded of the rift between Lennon and McCartney during this time, and all the signals towards pointing to the band's breakup, and it bums me out. It's still The Beatles, so the song-writing is phenomenal, but overall the double album is bloated and unrefined. It is iconic and important in the history of music, so I cannot dock it too much. The low rating is due to my enjoyment of the album, not necessarily the general quality. I can understand folks loving this album, but I've never been a big fan in comparison to so many other Beatles masterpieces.
Some great stuff, some really stupid stuff.
Ugh
-this is the Beatles album i’ve been most looking forward to listening to… impossible to say anything bad about this one tbh, i do prefer Revolver but i really like the eclecticism. Revolution 9 is really cool too -hard to believe they were all fighting so much when they made this because it’s cohesive as hell -Favorites are Back In The U.S.S.R, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and Blackbird
beateles ahd creativity, but many songs just aren't engaging. more like a lesson in rock development than somthing i would listen to 20 times
Definitely a lot to like on this one. I'll start with saying that Disc 1 was the far superior album. It was nice to hear an Offspring song as well. Did Revolution 9 bring this from :star::star::star::star: to :star::star::star:? Yes it did.
The story behind this album is fascinating. "The beginning of the end" for the Beatles. This is also a very long album, but with the songs being so diverse, it never really felt boring. But it did drag on a bit. Why was Revolution 9 included as a song in this album? It's just 8 minutes of hearing random noises and "Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9". After reading a Wiki article on the song, "The composition was influenced by the avant-garde style of Ono..." and that explains that.
Disliked the second part of the album.
3.5
I’m very meh on The Beatles. It just doesn’t click with me.
https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/the-beatles/the-beatles-white-album/
Well I've been meaning to get into this for a while now. Faves: While my Guitar gently weeps, Happiness is a warm gun, martha my dear, rocky raccoon, I will, Savoy truffle, Bungalow Bill. Actual score: 3.5 stars. Would I revisit: way too many songs, but yes.
6/10 - It is quite a long album with some bangers (usually the popular songs). It is interesting to me how with the beatles usually the popular songs are actually the best ones I feel like with other artists there is always one banger that is undervalued. Revolution 9 was actually unlistenable
This is a standard The Beatles album; lacks variation but does have a consistent sound. The music doesn't exactly interest me, but each the tracks are well produced, composed and versed. 3/5
Taking some marks off because there's just too many songs.
Sometimes less is more! Not my favourite Beatles Album.
Okayish album, loved a few songs. The others are meh.
It was alright and had a couple classic songs on it. I still don't understand why so many people go crazy over it though.
Fun / important but never a fan of a double album
Some of their best work, and some of their most mundane. Does not feel like a cohesive album, and certainly doesn't justify being a double album.
Disappointing album from the beatles
This album is so long. Some bangers, a lot of filler. Hot take - Siouxsie & the Banshees' cover of "Dear Prudence" is better. Favorites: Back in the USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps Would I listen to it again: Probably not
Interesting mix of styles. E.g. Dear Prudence is half traditional 60s ballad, half psychedelic, drone(sitar) inspired prog rock And self referential too (Glass Onions)! Something unsettling/unhinged abouy this album. Like a subversive parody of pop Rocky Raccoon is a funny parody of country Helter Skelter pretty heavy I like Mother Nature's Son Best track - Blackbird or Mother Natures Son
A bit too much Beatles in one go, for me. I've said it before, I'm not too keen on their songs about quirky characters, or their twee and/or fun numbers. But let me record here my love for While My Guitar Gently Weeps - my favourite Beatles chord progression ever - and my appreciation of Back in the USSR and Blackbird; both excellent. I'm not fussed about the rest, although I'm sure it was all very influential, etc etc.
My dad owned it and then I stole it from him when I was a teenager and then someone stole it from me a long time ago. I’ve still got the lyric sheet from inside. Anyway, Piggies has always terrified me because of the link with Charles Manson. I used to be able to play Michelle on the piano and now I’m wondering if I still can. Some amazing tracks: While my guitar gently weeps and Back in the USSR and some are just unlistenable to: Ob La Di 😳 So…it’s complicated. Hence, three stars.
never been a big beatles fan but i gotta admit i liked what i heard, need to listen again more actively
The record is messy, but in an acceptable way. This album just doesn't feel coherent, because it isn't. There no group effort from the Beatles, which in my eyes makes the record lose its magic. It's not bad, it just not what the Beatles really mean to me, this is just a collection of songs. Favorite song: While my guitar gently weeps. Overall score: 5.0/10
Never been a huge fan of the Beatles. This album is one of their better ones.
Classic
I'm not the biggest fan of the Beatles, but it's good. They never can really make anything bad.
3 out of 5. This is probably my least favorite Beatles album (disclaimer: anything before A Hard Day's Night I'm not into so for me it's where they started getting good) and similarly to Sandinista! by The Clash this one is a love-it-or-hate-it album for me. No song has an in-between area for me. Maybe in a few years something will change.
Wtf var Revolution 9? Kunne gitt 2, men var noen bra sanger, men mye gammelt
Ils ont forcé sur le remaster
bermtles
While My Guitar Gently Weeps is the highlight. Overall it's too long for my taste.
Just not my fav, but still some good hits.
Listened to mono recording. Highlights: Glass Onion, Wild Honey Pie, Helter Skelter, Revolution 9 Enjoyed the album. Songs blended together. Enjoyed disc 1 side A the most.
If you have always lived with the full Beatles catalog, it is hard to understand why this album is so special.
A little better than other Beatles albums but I still don't like the Beatles
This album is brought to you by drugs. Lots of stand alone hits on this, but taken altogether, it’s disjointed and random. Listen, it’s the Beatles so there’s no duds in their catalog, but I think I’ll stick to listening to isolated songs from this rather than the album as a whole.
Overly long Psychedelic Rock album with a few good songs ruined by bland fillers. Hoping it is over soon.
Immediately, as soon as I opened 1001albumsgenerator.com and saw this album appear, I thought to myself: "okay easy five stars, right? I mean, it's the Beatles? Abbey Road is, like, a top five album of all time? This has to be good." Am I disappointed? Sure. Did I like it? Yeah. It's not the greatest thing I've ever laid my ears upon, not God's gift to man, and not good enough to make me openly it up at Christmas and not go "shit!" But it's still a Beatles album. The worst Beatles album imo is Let It Be, which is a solid 5/10. This is an 8, probably. I have no complaints about the length. It's interesting to be honest. The thing that moved it down just a tad bit were the songs Don't Pass Me By - Mother Nature's Son. Easily the most boring songs on the album. Revolution 9 is overhated and I kind of love it. Love the Beatles, please don't hurt me <3 I’m gonna go listen to Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge now.
This is fine. "Blackbird" is very good. Better than the other Beatles album this has forced me to listen to. Okay but will not revist this.
Lame Songs - 1, 15 Eh Songs - 2,3,5,6, 8,10,12, 20, 21, 22, 24 I’m feeling it , 7,9,13, 14, 16,19, 23, 25 Great - 4, 11, It was a decent album.
***An ok album
Lots of songs, some are pretty good. Not my favorite Beatles album. 3.5
The first half is good but there are some songs on the second half which could easily have been left out. Way too long and too much inconsistency between discs (1 is great, 4 is just average at best). The songs that I liked the most: Dear Prudence While My Guitar Gently Weeps Happiness Is A Warm Gun I'm So Tired Blackbird I Will Mother Nature's Son
overrated
I remember borrowing this CD from my brother and listening to it as a child--that negative association colors most of my interpretation of the Beatles, but I'll give this a real chance. It's fun, and easy to listen to. Much better than the later work, and has some interesting technical tricks (particularly the stereo field guitars!) and thoughtful basslines. In the context of 1968, I can see how this would be massively influential upon many different later genres. AA/BB rhymes fit well, but in many cases I just don't "get" the lyricism, and it's both irritating and intrusive. Whether it is meant to be satirical or serious, I think the record suffers from including both. That being said, some of the compositional flourishes are innovative and impressive, if for or especially for that they're interpolated in a four-chord pop rock skeleton. "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" is practically a Skatalites or Specials song, and I like it. I might actually put parts of this on again, but the entire thing is punishingly long at over an hour and a half and definitely loses its charm by the second disc.
Not my favorite Beatles album, but still enjoyable. It is loooong though…
Overrated. This isn't bad, and there are some great songs on this (USSR, Guitar Gently Weeps, Helter Skelter), but the majority of it just feels like filler. So many songs that I can't even remember, and the album drags.
It's generally good, but felt very disjointed - it's clearly a case of them being allowed to do... whatever they wanted with little oversight. This definitely has some of my favourite Beatles songs (While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, Dear Prudence), but there's way too much that's just deeply strange stuff that's not even good as a novelty. I could've sworn Revolution was faster than this? Am I remembering wrong? Also Rev 9 is not nearly as bad as people complain about, after everything else it almost felt like a welcome change! Not my fave Beatles album, not gonna lie, but just okay.
Not my favorite, but it’s a classic according to others. Some good songs.
I'm going to start this off by saying I'm not a Beatles fan. That's largely because the fan base is annoying and I don't think a lot of the Beatles fanboys have their own opinions and they just parrot what they think other people want to hear about the Beatles so it puts me off of the band as a whole. I also think John Lennon is irredeemable and listening to him sing about any form of "peace and love" is revolting giving how violent of a person he was in his personal life. That being said, I tried to go into this whole album with an open mind. I do love some Beatles songs, but overall I find their performances of the songs... empty? And there was definitely some of that here. What bothers me about the songs on this album is a lot of them have tempo/rhythm changes within the song which is jarring and unpleasant to listen to. There seems to be little cohesion within the song itself. And I feel that way about the album itself too. Why is the Birthday Song on the same album as Helter Skelter and Dear Prudence? It just feels nonsensical. And it's not done in an interesting way, it just felt like they had lots of different songs left over and threw it on this one. Also, Revolution 9 is one of the worst songs I’ve ever listened to. That being said, the highs are really high. Dear Prudence, Helter Skelter, Blackbird, and Revolution 1 are masterpieces and that can't be overlooked. I’d give this a 3.5 if I could but I’m going with 3. The lack of cohesion and how bad Revolution 9 is pushed a potential 4 down to a 3.
Good album but so much long with 30 songs.
Yeah it’s the fucking Beatles and I love some of these songs but I won’t lie at some point it got so boring that I opened my linkedin and still had the full disc 2 to hear
Better than others I’ve heard. Not my favorite. My friend liked it.
Never got into the Beatles and I’m very disinterested in them sir some reason , this album gives the the same feeling
Many legendary tracks, many silly ones, many both…
Some gems, but incoherent overall. A bit of a chore to get through, but there's no denying the creativity. I had to put down everything and double check it was the Beatles when that heavy rock song came on, for example. 3* for overall experience (4* for innovation and creativeness, the drugs must have been great)
The Beatles are the ultimate "guess you had to be there" band. I'm repeatedly told they're revolutionary, but it just sounds old and weird and boring. This album specifically is supposed to be a masterpiece but it's kind of not. and it's too goddamned long. 3 stars. it doesn't suck, I guess, but it's also not very good. I suspect it's going to have a crazy high score because everyone who was born after 1960 has been gaslighted and bullied into thinking The Beatles are the pinnacle of music.
Fave Songs Thank god we're back to good Intro songs 🤪🤓 Disc 1 - Back in the USSR - Glass Onion - While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Happiness Is A Warm Gun - Why Won't We Do It In The Road? DISC 2 - Birthday 🧚♂️🙏 - Yer Blues - Helter Skelter - Savoy Truffle I barely know Beatles songs except the classics like Hey Jude and Yellow Submarine. I can definitely hear how influential this album was as many bands seem to follow the sonic sound post '68. It was a fun listen but I inly like a handful of songs from both discs, it was another meaty gritty album. 3.5 is what I'd give it coz I'd listen to it if I was doing housework but it's not something I'd sit down and enjoy in it's entirety. I give it props for being the more interesting one since Speakerboxx. Happiness Is A Warm Gun sounds like Matthew mcconaughey idk why. And I dislike both Beyonce blackbird and Beatles. Birthday was super explosive and for it to be followed by Yer Blues is just 🤓🧚♂️🧚♂️
too much pep in their steps
Again, I loved this when I was 10 years old but it's history to me now. Respect.
One of my first albums - enjoyed it but liked didn’t excite me like my nosier albums at the time - Rush 2112.
here’s my 1 disc version: dear prudence glass onion the continuing story of bungalow bill while my guitar gently weeps happiness is a warm gun I’m so tired don’t pass me by why don’t we do it in the road I will julia yer blues helter skelter revolution 1 cry baby cry
this contains so many of the beatles songs i’ve clowned on before. i really did enjoy sgt pepper’s, but this one just sounds like the result of what it was: a bunch of adult men arguing. some good songs, for sure. while my guitar gently weeps is a certified timeless banger, and i understand why it wowed people. the entirety of the album is not for me and it’s too long. sorry!
I was going to give this four stars, because duh, it’s The Beatles, but damn, the second disc especially is just unnecessary. So it’s gonna be one of those three-star must-listens (I still think it’s a must-listen, #75).
the great songs are great but it’s half filler, i don’t care what Mojo says
Long, like a "worst of the back catalouge" collection.
Good album but lots of repeats
Started to blend together towards the end.
First off, who gave these people a second audio channel? Seriously, they use stereo way too aggressively. Sound stage? Nah, drums left ear, guitar right ear! It adds nothing to the music and is just annoying and distracting. Okay, now to serious stuff. This is my first The Beatles album. Furthermore, I've actually been avoiding listening to them. But why? They're The Beatles. Aren't they one of the biggest bands of all time? Of course, I'm aware of all the praise they get. But whenever I hear someone talk about The Beatles, it is almost always about how "influential" or "monumental" they are and rarely anything about the quality of their music. I'm not trying to downplay the band's impact on the music industry, but this is not what I'm looking for when choosing what music to listen to. Call me a philistine, but I don't care how important a specific song or album was to the history of music or how technically impressive it is—I just want it to sound good. Of course, I've seen praise for their music too, but none of what I had heard or read made me excited to listen to it. That's why I avoided The Beatles—I was afraid that I was not going to like them. I realized that there was a pretty good chance that if I heard their music, I was going to become one of the very few people that don't care for them. And it's not like it's a simple unpopular opinion. Liking The Beatles is like some sort of a default opinion everyone who dares consider themselves a music nerd is simply expected to share. Not praising them is almost seen as flat-out wrong and an attribute of annoying contrarians and attention seekers. And I'm neither... well, at least I hope I am. Look, I hate not sharing probably one of the most popular opinions in music as it will now forever sit at the back of my mind whenever I see people discuss the band and certainly don't want to be the person to go, "The Beatles? Yeah, they're mid," but unfortunately, this is what I got out of my first experience with their stuff. So, does The White Album sound good? Well, yes... but I'm not impressed. Sure, It has a couple of bangers (Back In the U.S.S.R., While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Helter Skelter), but there are 30 songs here and most of the other ones are just decent to good. There's nothing wrong with the music here; I certainly didn't have any trouble getting through the album, but "decent to good" is not something you're supposed to expect from one of the most popular albums from arguably the most revered bands in history. The White Album is good, but it didn't grab my attention and felt like road trip music—pleasant but not exiting. Maybe it was revolutionary at the time of recording, but it's not really an argument. The problem is not that it's old, the problem is that its outdated. There are amazing bands like Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Led Zeppelin, and many more that came immediately after The Beatles yet for me their music still feels gripping and fresh many decades later. And yes, it's likely that The Beatles actually influenced the creation of at least some of these bands, but it doesn't make their music any batter. The White Album, on the other hand, by today's standards, feels like simple pop rock with folk elements. Yeah, I'm sorry, I don't get the appeal. My opinion may change when I listen to some of their other albums, but for now that's that. Your mileage may vary. 7/10
Never been the biggest Beatles guy, last time I listened to this was probably 14 years ago. Does it need to be this long? Songs I like: Back in the U.S.S.R (interesting lyrics, great guitar and energy) Martha My Dear Rocky Raccoon I Will (it's fine) Songs I don't like: Dear Prudence (boring) Glass Onion (boring) Blackbird (feels patronizing, and is subtle enough that they could say it isn't about race, so what's the point) Piggies (leave the pig-political commentary to Orwell and Pink Floyd) Don't Pass Me By (sounds like a parody of The Beatles) Julia (worse version of Hermione by David Bowie) Birthday (uhhhhh) Songs I love: While My Guitar Gently Weeps (peak) Happiness is A Warm Gun (love the melodies, nonsense lyrics that sound great, satisfying song) I'm So Tired (simple, great) Songs I hate: Obla-do, Obla-da (or however it's spelled) The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill (good to know Paul and John both had the ability to suck a lot) Why Don't We Do It in the Road (you already know) Only half of the songs have all 4 Beatles on it, and you can tell. It sometimes feel like 2 and a half solo albums stuffed into one giant piece. I'm not sure why they gave up on incorporating multiple genres in one song, I generally find that side of them more interesting. I guess the egos and the stories behind the songs all add to the mystique, but they don't exactly add to the music.
Beatles.. 3/5
Moments of brilliance surrounded by unfinished business and mere ideas
This is very very long and kind of all over the place genre- and mood-wise. The songs that are good are really good (Blackbird, While My Guitar Gently Weeps) but there's too much filler for this to rise above a 3
Decent album, with a few good bops. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, Martha My Dear, I'm So Tired, Why Don't We Do It In the Road? all solid tracks. Didn't make it all the way through disc 2. Favourites: Back in the U.S.S.R, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Happiness is a Warm Gun.
Maybe one day I will see what everyone else does in this album. But aside from some a handful of my favourite tunes (Helter Skelter, Savoy Truffle) this album is all over the place. More miss than hit
Some bangers but a lot of duds…just not it, imo.
Again. Not my favorite band. But I have to give props to George Harrison here. WMGGW is one of the best songs written. A couple of other bangers here too.
Honestly, I never thought super highly of The Beatles prior to doing this project but it really opened my eyes to how good they are especially with The Beatles (The White Album as fans call it). This album had quite a lot more variety with the kind of music being played, more so than any of the other Beatles albums that i have listened to. And for the most part, it paid off with a lot of these songs actually being really solid listens and generally being very memorable. I do feel like this album is pretty long however and i personally think that it would be great if the album was trimmed down a bit. That being said, this is still a really solid album and definitely my favorite Beatles album by far. Best Song: Helter Skelter Worst Song: Revolution 9
It’s got some of my favorite classic hits but is very bloated with mediocre filler. One point should be deducted just for that cheesy Goodnight song at the end. Probably could have been a five star single album with proper editing.
While my guitar gently weeps
There were a bunch of songs on this album ranging from annoying to good. Most were fine. I will refrain from saying overrated this time but I dunnoooooooooo it's not looking good
An album full unique tracks and a few very strange ones. Overall, pretty good. The strange tracks kind of killed it for me and it was a bit too long for my liking. 7 out of 10
Meh
Love the Beatles and a fair few classics on here. However, some songs haven't aged well and maybe sounded better when off your head on handpicked mushrooms...
hard to hate, hard to love. not my favorite beatles album, but also isn't bad by any means. favs: blackbird
