The Black Crowes
3/5
I can see why this band is called the most rock and roll band in the world, this album is a brilliant album that just does everything right. It’s nothing complicated just great rock.

The Police
5/5
Ah, Reggatta De Blanc, when life gives you the Police, you take it and enjoy it mercilessly. Starts off with an absolute bang! Message in a Bottle, is such a brilliant classic rock song mixed with reggae. Who else could sing so brilliantly about being stranded on a castaway island, no one else but Sting. Then turns into a great instrumental track, so dynamic and shows the raw sound of the Police, so passionate and filled with fire. THEN, ITS ALRIGHT FOR YOU. I LOVE ITS ALRIGHT FOR YOU. Copeland is SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD IN THIS, BEST DRUMMER EVER. Love the build-ups, the fast tempo and did I mention Copeland? The ending is brilliant, sounding like an incredible, real jam session that they enjoy so much. The work on Bring On The Night, by Summers, with the meticulous guitar work and again Copeland, those two produce such brilliance. Deathwish is a nice little track too, sounds so youthful and energetic. Walking on the Moon, honestly, sounds more like what they’d develop over time with their Synchronicity album, with a more mature sounding piece. Again, such subtle brilliance with Copeland and Summers working in such a sweet pair together. As I say that, On Any Other Day is the other side of them, so fun and punky, which pairs well with the Copeland and Sting vocal duo. This turns into the highly reggae inspired The Bed’s Too Big Without You. A classic post-breakup song, showing the sorrow of a man. Then Contact, Copeland GOES SO CRAZY!!! Love him absolute BITS. The rest of the song is so simple, but how he makes it with such a sophisticated drum part is unbelievable. Does Everyone Stare… It’s like a precursor to Every Breath You Take; the way that the Police makes such dark songs sound so cheery and fun is so great. THEN YAAAAA NO TIME THIS TIMEEEEEEEEE, such a fun outro track. In all, this is definitely Copeland's best album, and shows the perfection of the youthful sound of the Police. No one does it the same way as the Police. 5/5

Beatles
3/5
The album's first half is solid, with great tracks like Something, Octopus's Garden, and Here Comes the Sun. However, the second half feels fairly repetitive and wacky. This album is very Beatlescore which appeals to some but not quite for me.
The Cure
3/5
From the Cure that I have listened to prior with their hits (Boys Don't Cry, Friday I'm In Love and Just Like Heaven), it has a lot less variance and a bit more of a mellow edge. However, this album is very well produced and all the songs work well together.
R.E.M.
4/5
The uplifting nature of the album was very refreshing and contained some subtle intricacies with the drumming and saxophone solo. However, the single "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" feels completely out of place and interrupts the album's flow. This results in an enjoyable album to listen to however nothing groundbreaking.
Favourite song: The One I Love
Nina Simone
4/5
This album conveys emotions that she has felt beautifully. Whilst not the type of music I would go back to, her music highlights struggle, joy, and despair being captured by her powerful but gentle voice. Representing the intricacies of her life and life in general for Black women.
Favourite songs: What more can I say & That's all I can ask
Nirvana
3/5
The album has shown some brilliance, with the first four songs deserving the praise they deserve. However, for me, this album struggles with having too many loud and obnoxious parts, which is highlighted in Lithium and Lounge Act that shows brilliance apart from these parts. Although this album's significance is pinned to these parts preserving this youth sound that still holds it, it doesn't resonate with me. I can understand the brilliance, but it’s not my style of music.
Favourite song - Breed
Slipknot
2/5
My poor, poor ears. While this album would appeal to heavy metal fans, it is such a drag to listen to. The drummer is incredible, which makes this album somewhat interesting. The more mellow songs are better but nothing special.
Favourite song - Snuff
Brian Eno
3/5
It is a very experimental album with a lot of quality and unique instrumentation. Enjoyable listen and I'm excited to hear more albums from him.
Favourite Album - King's Lead Hat
The Black Crowes
3/5
I can see why this band is called the most rock and roll band in the world, this album is a brilliant album that just does everything right. It’s nothing complicated just great rock.
Favourite song - Hard to Handle
Peter Tosh
3/5
Good reggae album, just does with it does right. Probably would be so much better if I was high.
Favourite song - Till Your Well Run Dry
Deep Purple
3/5
Really amazing music with amazing drum parts, an amazing piano solo in Speed King and just music that rocks.
Favourite - Speed King
Tricky
3/5
An album that sounds very ahead of its time, Tricky does an excellent job at creating very groovy and chill music that is well articulated. Her soft voice makes a good impression on this fascinating album.
Adele
2/5
Amazing voice, but it just doesn’t catch on, like it feels a tad incomplete missing that 5%. I understand its appeal and its fame but it just misses the mark a little. Disappointing.
Favourite song - when we were young
The La's
4/5
This album is very comforting. It would be a great album to listen to in the car, as the music moves along. It gives the vibes of a 60s album in a more modern time.
Favourite song - There She Goes
Neil Young
3/5
lounge album, very good at conveying interesting lyrical content but just doesn’t go anywhere. Not my taste
Elvis Presley
4/5
The hype is real, Elvis Presley deserves all of the legacy that he has achieved. In the context of his generation, the more modern take on music, the use of rock and roll, and an incredible frontman in Elvis changed music. I will say the album's order could be a lot better as it switches from rock and roll, to dance and slow songs too much.
Paul Simon
4/5
Paul has an amazingly smooth but clear voice that elevates this album very well and a way with words to pivot this voice. Fascinating instrumentation that makes very complicated rhythms sound very succinct. Excited to hear more from Paul Simon.
Favourite song - Train in the Distance
Cowboy Junkies
3/5
An Interesting album, very mellow and smooth that gives off a vibe of being a Cowboy in the Midwest. The brilliant use of harmonicas in many songs brings an amazing element to the album.
Calexico
3/5
A very experimental album, with a lot of American and Spanish influences that creates a different perspective on music then a lot of the music on this list. Some really good interesting parts of the album that showed brilliance like Crumble and Guero Canelo but there were some parts that just didn’t hit the mark.
Favourite song - Crumble
The Who
3/5
Very experimental for the time, some real quality in drums solos, lyrics and composition however just doesn’t hit the exact spot for me
Favourite song - Underture
Mercury Rev
4/5
Dreamy like feel, drums that just make you feel. Just beautifully put together like a warm blanket. Some of the non vocal songs are very experimental and don't add the most value towards the album. Also, WHAT IS THIS ENDING so very off putting and strange. Anyways, very very good parts and some that will make you wonder why, why, why.
George Harrison
3/5
Man, as a way to make a statement to the Beatles he did. Just the perfect way to do that. However, seriously this album doesn't need to be this long. I wish I could appreciate it more but it would be a lot better if it was just reduced which could have made this album so much easier to enjoy. This song has brilliant elements, amazing drums, experimental guitar bits and everything else. Harrison gives a connection as he owns himself in this album grants a really good impression from his quieter role in the Beatles. I understand the context, but not for me.
Jeff Buckley
4/5
His vocals are incredible and he knows how to work around a song. It's very soothing and sophisticated, which links very well together. Whilst not my favourite type of music, it is brilliant at what it does.
Buena Vista Social Club
4/5
Really neat album with amazing elements, well composed, well articulated and sounds like the wonderful essence of Cuba.
Björk
2/5
I dislike her voice, it is just so annoying and sounds like a rat. Her voice washes out the solid rhythms.
Favourite Song - Come to Me
Sisters Of Mercy
2/5
big drums, big sound, very synths, very angelic but why? This album is against some other brilliant albums that missed out. There's nothing bad about it but it sounds like a blurry mess. Maybe if I was against a boss in a medieval video game it might be a good fit it's so not it.
OutKast
3/5
Some excellent stuff in this album, it flows super well and I can understand the hype on it. However, for every good song, there's a song that doesn't go anywhere which takes away from the album quality.
Favourite Song - B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad
ZZ Top
4/5
It's classic rock, with some very nice guitar lines and riffs. His voice is very rounded and speaks well to the surrounding sound. Good stuff.
Rufus Wainwright
2/5
I'm not the biggest fan of the intro. The album is melodic, and sounds like he appreciates nice artwork. His calm voice complements the music. It's probably a good album to listen to while driving with a girl however, I would skip the last song.
Beck
3/5
It was a well-produced album, songs flowed well. Songs are soft and it shows, however, was not my jam.
Mekons
2/5
Sounds alright? Like cool, it's rock and there are some cool folk influences but nothing special. It's not a surprise that the first song on the track is the most played.
Nine Inch Nails
3/5
As someone who isn't on a downward spiral, this album didn't personally relate. However, it is pretty neat.
Bob Dylan
3/5
It's Bob Dylan, I understand how much influence he has on the music industry but for me, it's just average. Not my taste.
Nas
3/5
It's just a good rap album with good backbeats and solid vocals to match.
Randy Newman
4/5
I can see why Disney signed this man up to compose and sing some of the most iconic Pixar films. His voice is just incredible, such a clear and well-rounded artist that is very soothing to listen to. The songs are brilliantly well done as well having much country and elements of rock and roll composed so brilliantly. An absolute American road trip album.
Jefferson Airplane
3/5
Kinda cool, just music that is great to vibe out to.
Favourite Song: 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds
Rage Against The Machine
4/5
Hard rockers, I wish people paid attention to what the lyrics were saying.
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
The bassist is insane, just entertaining and choppy soul music. Some sophisticated stuff which is neat. Good vibes.
Tom Waits
3/5
A left-field album that tries to capture Waits experimental and creative direction. I appreciate all of the different instruments but it's not my taste of music. Tom Waits at his best.
The Cramps
2/5
Sounds like word vomit, with just 60s rock and roll elements. Nothing special.
Nick Drake
3/5
A lovely Cafe lounge album, pretty neat.
Buck Owens
3/5
Good album to drive too, the quality of songs shifted from great to just average however, the more rock adjacent songs were better than the slower songs. Alright country album.
Paul Simon
4/5
Second Paul Simon, starts groovy but then mellows out, but that's what Paul Simon is. Just so talented, a great storyteller, and makes for a great listen.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Such an incredible voice, clear, strong but beautiful. Backed by brilliant instrumentation which just composed so well. Great listen.
Ravi Shankar
3/5
This album is truly special. Through introducing the sitar to a Western audience, it delivers a captivating experience. The unique blend of elements in each song is beautifully composed, making for a fascinating listen. Not sure I'd go back to listen again, but very grateful I could.
Throbbing Gristle
1/5
It is just sound, like awesome it supposedly makes inbounds in experimental music but honestly, it felt so pointless listening to it. What do random noise and conversations mean with these interesting and experimental albums that showcase the best of music? No idea.
The Crusaders
4/5
A relief to have a nice jazz album, thought everything was just great. Good vibes, good sound and good instruments. That street life song is just such a great start to the anlvum and deserves its praise.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Just good reggae, Marley places himself brilliantly in each song and is backed by good social commentary.
Sheryl Crow
4/5
She is such an American sweetheart in her music, which makes for an easy and sometimes fun album that works fairly well. All I Wanna Do is just brilliant and I'm surprised they didn't understand that should be the single of the album. However, a lot of just forgettable songs and songs that don't hit the mark compared to how I thought it would be, with All I Wanna Do. A good pick but not exactly stepping into greatness.
Hole
3/5
I understand this album as being a tribute, in a sense, to Kurt, with such a similar style to Nirvana. It doesn't have that same legendary and rebellious youth sound that made them so successful. Grunge fans would appreciate this album, but not for me.
MGMT
3/5
The album's massive hits stick out like a thumb (for the better), compared with the rest of the album which is just decent indie rock with nice electronic elements.
Scott Walker
2/5
Just a mediocre album, doesn't go anywhere. Is nothing.
The Divine Comedy
2/5
As the last album on my list was Scott Walker, this album is remarkably similar. However, this is not a compliment. His voice is so mediocre and when the music did something, he did nothing. The ending of Becoming More Like Alfie was neat, but that was the only cool part. Not horrible, just mediocre.
The Specials
3/5
Ska and Reggae fusions have some interesting and neat parts. Nice listen but nothing special.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Just awesome, no surprises about the quality of the album and his incredible work on the electric guitar. If only I got to see him live, that’d be incredible.
KISS
3/5
Apparently there were a lot of hits in this album, I didn’t really hear it. It was just rock, and it felt like the album didn’t really go anywhere. Wasn’t bad but it didn’t make me go crazy like them at concert.
Supergrass
3/5
It is 90s rock, trying to achieve something that it is not. Lots of sound but does not achieve much for me. I'm not saying it's completely bad, but it isn't a classic.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
It is a brilliant rock album, an undeniable classic with so much vying for it. I mean it has Stairway to Heaven, one of the most legendary and best songs ever written and composed and other classics like Black Dog. It is era-defining, and so influential to this day with young people like myself still enjoying it 54 years later.
Rush
3/5
Softer kinda of rock, did cool stuff, it was good.
Foo Fighters
3/5
For a grunge band, they are precisely what Nirvana isn't but in the best way. This authentic rock sound for their opening album is neat.
Jean-Michel Jarre
3/5
For the time that it was made, it sounds futuristic in its approach. It would seem to be that using electronic synths adds to the subtle ambient sound nicely. Interesting listen and sounds like the wake of computer related music.
Cyndi Lauper
4/5
After an underwhelming first track, the album opens up to be such a fun and iconic album. A lot of timeless hits (see what I did there) and other very energetic and quirky stuff which achieves exactly what she wants. Also that transition from He’s so Unusual to Yeah Yeah deserves all of the credit. Brilliant, fun album that everyone can enjoy, not just teenage girls from the 80s.
The Pharcyde
3/5
Fun beats, great backing tracks, enjoyable rap however it doesn't pivot towards doing much that is special.
Coldplay
5/5
Pure greatness, Chris Martin is so brilliant and everything around it is so beautiful. All of the hits are incredible and backed by such sweet and softer tracks put so well. It's not the first album, but Coldplay at its best.
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
It is not his best, but it is a mellow Springsteen album that does bits and shows greatness. A super American album and tides well.
The Waterboys
3/5
The album's start is quite neat, with a mixture of rock and folk music composed beautifully. With excellent usage of wind, strings and piano parts put succinctly with the flowing rock parts. However, over time the influence of rock is lost, and it becomes a folk album that feels monotonous. I feel for those who had to listen to the deluxe parts.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
It's just a standard good reggae album, but it's not the stuff for me. The last few songs are great, but the rest is just alright.
Richard Thompson
2/5
The dynamic between the woman and the man singing was nice, however what a dull album. Seriously, it was just so average and nothing special at all. No hate, but that was not worthy of this list.
Nirvana
4/5
It's one of the best live albums ever, I always appreciated Kurt's more mellow voice over his high grunge parts. This places him as one of the best vocalists ever, placed with the rest of the band. It sounds like a studio album but with a live feel. Brilliance.
Genesis
2/5
As much as I enjoy Genesis's later stuff man this stinks. It is such a long, dull album which sure does cool stuff. Phil Collins is great as usual and I'm so glad they made him the lead after this.
Blur
3/5
So Britpop, a lot of variance in music in the middle part which was nice. Like, one of the most British albums ever, which isn't horrible but man I got sick of the accent LOL. Not bad.
Kendrick Lamar
4/5
This guy knows his crap, he is just such an interesting and polished album for his second album. Great singles, good album tracks and his death in the album too. No wonder he is the top rap artist right now.
The Beach Boys
3/5
A different sort of album than I was expecting from the Beach Boys. A more mellow but also, very refreshing album. Did appreciate them doing Student Demonstration Time as a nod to the Vietnam War protests. Interesting stuff.
Love
3/5
Just some guys that made some good music. I didn't feel the love, the band name is misleading.
Sepultura
2/5
Another metal album and is over an hour long. Sure the Brazilian influence in some of the songs was refreshing but the album is such a drag.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Hendrix, you know how to rock, as Filmore once said "Respect the classics, man. It's Hendrix!"
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
Wish there was more hype in this album, it started well and just fizzed out over time. It's like a weird balance between club music and your more typical electronic album which might work in niche environments but not in most occasions.
Animal Collective
2/5
It was a dull album, it didn't feel like it went anywhere.
David Bowie
2/5
Can’t lie, a little disappointed that this was my first Bowie album that I got to listen to. I didn’t get it, it just felt like sound and nothing more special. Couldn’t appreciate it, and I can’t wait to hear more of Bowie so I can understand the significance of him.
Teenage Fanclub
2/5
It was a generic rock album that sounded like some guys out of a garage made an album. If I knew the guys and heard this from them I'd be impressed but compared to some of the other stuff we get on here it's super tame.
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
3/5
I'm glad I listened to this Pakistani music, and it contained some good ambience. Though I wish I realised that it was a double release instead of a single release. Alas, it was a good album.
M.I.A.
2/5
As a white Australian man who has British ancestry, I won’t complain that I had to listen to this album because they had to endure British Colonialisation and the Disastrous impacts that it had on Sri Lanka which resulted in the points she talked about in this album. Whilst it is not my cup of tea, I’m glad I listened to it as is some semblance of her culture and experiences.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
2/5
This makes me not want to go to California, as most of the songs are either a slurry mess or resemble bad white rap. This might be one of the most overrated rock bands ever...
Laura Nyro
3/5
Timeless in nature, I'm impressed with how modern-sounding it is for the late 60s. Loved the jazz elements; however, it contained many mediocre songs that didn't go anywhere, sprinkled with brilliance. Not my type of music, but I can appreciate it.
Christine and the Queens
2/5
It was kind of boring, it sounded like a generic pop album about themselves. Nothing was redeeming about that album, and I felt like I was tuning out. This is definitely someone else's cup of tea and I hope they enjoy this French Queer pop album, but not for me.
Paul Simon
4/5
Great continuation of Paul Simon's brilliance, he continues to know his way around a song and this album is special. Contains great hit singles like Graceland and You Can Call Me Al as well as interesting collaborations with various other musicians that all add to the album.
Yes
3/5
Hell, Yes, these guys know how to rock. The start and end of the album are cool and contain a nice mix of elements; however, the middle felt like a bit of a drag.
Morrissey
3/5
As someone who is NOT a fan of Morrissey in the Smiths, and he ruins the band in my opinion, I appreciate his more mature take on this album.
The Band
3/5
Completely forgettable and uninspiring but not bad, It's a good listen tho.
R.E.M.
4/5
Even though I'm not as much of a fan of Stipe's earlier voice, this album delivers. It has some interesting components and enjoyable rhythms.
Soul II Soul
3/5
I'm surprised by the different music influences on this album for being a club classic album. Mostly, a vibe however that Back to Life song ruined the flow. I'd be hitting the clubs if they played this type of music.
Suicide
1/5
Some would say it's experimental, others would say it's sound for me, definitely sound. I'm not against this album's inclusion in the list but man I didn't enjoy listening to this.
Radiohead
3/5
Honestly, the way that Yorke sings and the music that is played behind it fit well. Just a bit of an atmospheric sound that floats around in your mind. Not a bad album, but some of Radiohead's other, more grounded albums are better than this.
Minor Threat
3/5
Small, but nice little punk album that is enjoyable with simple brilliance. They would be brilliant hearing them live.
Prince
3/5
Never been the biggest fan of Prince, like the hits are alright and the rest has cool moments, but it's just not my type of music. Didn't appreciate all of the moaning, but whatever, that's his style.
Thundercat
3/5
This album's elements are a sweet mix of different genres, providing a nice groovy vibe throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed it, with nice collaborations from Kendrick and, surprisingly, Kenny Loggins?!?!
Frank Ocean
3/5
I can understand the hype behind this album, but most of the album feels like soulless R&B music. Apart from Lost, which is class, he knew what he did with that. Still not bad, just not my taste.
Sonic Youth
3/5
It wasn't bad, but it didn't do anything for me. Felt a bit underwhelming and middle of the road, with peculiar guitar work that did very little to change my opinion on it.
Beck
3/5
Compared to Beck's Sea Change, the more experimental approach on this album is quite refreshing. There's something about the blend of such different genres and production styles, when done well, that makes it work. Still, nothing that special about this.
The Police
5/5
There is a reason why this band is my favourite of all time, just brilliance. One of the best intros to an album, such an amazing build up to Synchronicity I, which balances Sting's complex lyrics with the brilliant rock. Then to the more world music of Walking In Your Footsteps, which is a showing of the more worldly sound that the Police were aiming to achieve, experimental but well-polished. Then, O My God, OMG this song is BRILLIANT. The references to Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic are magic (the best song ever), the build-up, the bass, the subtle brilliance of Copeland in every he does just perfect. The bridges have such fun and groovy riffs, they just add so much. I might be this song's number one fan. And then Mother, if it were anyone else but Summers singing, I would hate it so much, but it's so fascinating. A real nod to their more punk eras, also sounds like a good ringtone!!! THEN, ARE YOU SAFE MISS GRADENKO, ARE YOU SAFE?!!? Such a cheesy little song with so much substance, with brilliance from Copeland as ALWAYS. Then, SYNCHROINCITY II!!! What a song, such a guitar-heavy song, but Summers really tells a great story with it. Still highlights Sting's brilliance in producing lyrics that really don’t make much sense, but produce such a good story, and he sings it so well too. That ending, so good. Then, the classic “love song” that everyone knows is just a stalking song (so playing it at my wedding for the fun of it), this song is the quintessential 80s song in my opinion, a bit different from the rest of the album with it’s more simple lyrics, but so catchy and that bass is brilliant. Another great ending, the repetition adds so much to its claims as a love song, but it’s so not. Then King Of Pain, the glockenspiel at the start makes such a great suspense building, for the rest of the song. I have always found this song as the most Police sounding song, with the reggae backing beat, interesting guitar work, and the worldly feel that the Police developed into. Then Wrapped Around Your Finger, no wonder Copeland is one of the greatest ever. How he does such simplicity into such brilliance, I have no bloody idea. I love the more mysterious but worldly sound of this song, but have no idea what it means. Tea In The Sahara, not one of the flashier tracks, but brilliant in all of the right ways, just soft and brilliant for the original ending track. Not in the original album, but I love Murder by Numbers, it is more of their original vein of songs. A bit on the darker side, but with the brilliance of Copeland, it makes a well-completed song. Also, equating murder as easy to learn as A, B, C, is exactly what I would expect from this lot. As mentioned, there is a reason why I have 3,407 plays of the songs on this album. Interesting lyrics sung so well by Sting with the ways of Summers and the greatest drummer ever with Copeland in their most polished. With all of them being at odds in the tiny island of Montserrat, it was tragic that it was their final album, but it allowed them to be experimental in their subsequent adventures. This review is long enough, 5/5.
David Holmes
3/5
Pretty neat club album, appreciated the different samples and it led to cool stuff. Radio 7 being a James Bond cover is bloody sick as.
Cheap Trick
3/5
Honestly, kind of a dull live album. It didn't do a lot to achieve greatness, like it was an ordinary live album of Cheap Trick that I would expect if I went to their concert. Like, it isn't bad, but fairly generic rock music.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
Great start and ending in the album, just fairly groovy indie music that was a lot of fun. The middle of the album felt fairly repetitive with the first bit, but the album picked up with New York. Get Innocuous was an excellent opening track. Not the greatest fan of his voice tho.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
It's exactly what I expected from Creedence, that raw Southern state sound. It's the real iconic sound, but not groundbreaking like some of their other stuff. I would go back to this if I were on a long road trip, especially if I were in the South.
The Avalanches
2/5
As an Australian, I got a bit excited at a “rock” and electronic album from a band that I didn’t know. The starting track was really great, and I was excited for where the rest of the album would go. However, it switched to an uninspired and music that sounded like, sound. Some tracks were decent, others just felt rubbish. Fairly disappointed.
Elbow
3/5
I seriously need to stop looking at the reviews of the albums before I listen to them. I got SO excited about the prospect of a mix of Sting and Coldplay, as those are my favourite bands and artists ever. However, I was delivered a typical British Indie rock album... Like sure, it kinda sounds like Sting, but if he sang in a heavy British accent, it does have Coldplay vibes, but nothing like the brilliance of those two. I'm sure if they didn't make this so vibey and a bit dreamy, and leaned into the rock element of the album, minus the real British accent, it could be brilliant. But no! It wasn't bad, just disappointing. So sure, I'll rate this another 3, like I don't have enough 3s on my list.
Radiohead
3/5
I had Amnesnic like two weeks ago, and this felt like the first part of that album. Fascinating music, just very unique and experimental but not in tune with the music I resonate with.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Honestly, surprised. These guys did the basics brilliantly and produced such an incredible hip-hop album. The jazz elements work a treat, showing that these two genres fit well. Didn't appreciate the misogyny in there, however, such a brilliant album, and shows that I appreciate hip-hop more than I give it credit for.
The Offspring
2/5
I don't understand this, it is just some loud music that feels soulless. Like sure, the band knows how to play, and it still felt so empty with the same consistent sound throughout. The ending of the last track after five minutes of nothing was pretty neat, but that doesn't redeem the album in the slightest.
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
For a post-punk sounding album, I don't hate it! The rock and orchestral elements work well with the voice, but nothing groundbreaking.
Massive Attack
2/5
Listened to it, and felt that the electronic trip-hop album sounded just a bit murky. It wasn't pronounced, and it felt like it went everywhere, not my jam.
Paul Weller
3/5
Didn't expect such a mature voice from Weller, as someone who appreciates his stuff from the Style Council. Anyways, it was alright, and I loved Has My Fire Really Gone Out for some reason.
Johnny Cash
4/5
The aura of this man, it’s like he was defying authority whilst he was performing. It was real, and you felt that the prisoners felt that Cash had their back. I’m normally not the biggest fan of country, but this was sweet. Maybe I’ve been listening to the wrong live albums because the ones I have gotten have been great on here.
The White Stripes
3/5
It wasn't bad, but I felt like it was written by some teenagers, which results in it sounding a bit raw and unfinished for my taste. My Girlfriend enjoyed it, so that is the only thing that matters.
The Police
Deee-Lite
3/5
A quality dance album. The beginning is the stuff, and Groove Is in the Heart is such a great track. However, the album takes a downslide from there, and honestly, it takes it from a 4 to a high 3 on relisten.
Pixies
2/5
Apart from Mr. Grieves, which slapped so hard for no reason, the rest of the album was so boring. Just not my style of rock at all, but whatever a lot of people like it so let it be.
The Cure
4/5
Such a good album, the mellow parts of this album are brilliant. Love it!
PJ Harvey
1/5
Honestly was a lot of sound, like a terrible grunge sound and it felt like it didn’t have a coherent moment. Very happy I never have to listen to this ever again.
Blue Cheer
2/5
Respect them for defining the genre of heavy metal, and making something that contrasts with the time of music it was made in. However, is this album good? No. Rock Me Baby was a pretty neat track; however, the rest felt a bit lacking, which is fine because this is a radical album for the time, so that I won't complain.
The Band
3/5
I feel that what The Band does best is produce music that sounds like what you'd think if you made music. In that sense, being called The Band is the perfect description of the band. It's a bit ordinary listening to it in today's age, but not in a bad way, but in a comforting way. With some nice piano parts as well, which fit well with the music.
Pavement
2/5
It was just worse than alright, like not my style of rock, a bad fusion between alt rock and grunge and post punk, which just didn't gel well. Not my greatest listening experience.
Robert Wyatt
2/5
After helping to create one of the most greatest albums ever, Nick Mason assisted through producing this… a Scott Walkerst monotone rubbish album. This is why I don’t understand British people, like this postpunk, art rock stuff rubbish music is so uninspired and feels like a waste of space. Anyways, there are some good moments from the backing instruments so it’s not a 1/5.
The Bees
3/5
Kind of chill, kind of alright. No idea why it was included, maybe one of the writers was like man, I really love this chill album. Good for a lounging summers day but not groundbreaking.
Soundgarden
3/5
Just such a clean-sounding grunge album, so well polished. Black Hole Sun is so legendary, and I love that. High three, as the rest of it wasn't to my liking.
Gary Numan
4/5
Listening to this makes me imagine the context in which it was created, the brand new sound of synth pop, so fresh and unique. With the defining sound that prevailed over the next decade and more. Genius, however, I will say that because it's a pioneering album, there were some blemishes, but it certainly has quality.
Neu!
3/5
Fairly good ambient music, like great music to have on in the background whilst doing something else to keep your attention, but not much more than that.
Tracy Chapman
4/5
What a beautiful way to discuss the highly systematic issues that are so prevalent in society. Discussing the issues of racial discrimination, domestic violence and wealth inequality whilst balancing the album with songs that showcase how brilliant life can be. Society then and society now can’t understand how prevalent these issues are in society. The way that she chose to use the music with such a simplistic but still fascinating way is exactly how these issues are needed to be shown in. However, the people that actually should listen to her properly are the ones that will discredit her something that today would be regarded as “woke”. I’m just glad that people still listen to this to this day, when these issues are no where near being resolved.
Miles Davis
4/5
Brilliance from Davis, the ambient and smooth vibes are excellent. They couldn't pick a better album for me to study to. The way he composed it, so sweet. Loved it!
Louis Prima
4/5
Such a cool big band album, so fun and vibrant. Also, what a voice from Prima! The swingy feel to the album is so great! Love it!
Manu Chao
3/5
Just a good vibes Latin album. The reggae vibes mixed with the catchy music were cool. Also, props to him singing in three languages.
Pixies
1/5
Man, I love the Pixies so much, wait no, man, I can't wait to hear them ever again in my life. What rubbish! Sounds like a noisy mess of blah and trash, like crappy punk music. Also, how does Where Is My Mind? have over 1 billion plays on Spotify? Do people listen to it with their ears turned off?
Digital Underground
2/5
A bunch of white sounding people rapping about sex, like what did I expect? Decent sampling, however, it was just boring.
Burning Spear
3/5
An ordinary reggae album, it seriously almost all sounds the same. Though I appreciate reggae so it was a nice listen.
OutKast
4/5
So long, and that was the main problem with the album. However, what a bloody good album, just so polished with great hits (who doesn't love Hey Ya!) and great interlude tracks. Mad respect to OutKast.
Christina Aguilera
3/5
No surprises for this album, as it's a woman's 2000s album. Such a powerful American voice that could take anything that was given to her. The influences on the big band music of the early 20th century are neat. Not my particular taste, but I can see how she is still big.
T. Rex
4/5
What an awesome glam rock album! The real rock and roll feel with the brilliance of Marc Bolan is sweet as. Get It On is a great hit track too, great listen.
Orbital
3/5
Even though this album is fairly repetitive (especially with the opening and closing tracks), it was such a good dance/electronic album. For listening to this album whilst studying, it was a good mix of repetitive and new ideas.
Bob Dylan
3/5
Bob Dylan, you are so highly regarded by musicians; however, you are just so average. There were some cool parts in the first few songs, but not my thing. Easiest 3 in my life.
The Darkness
3/5
Respect for these guys to make a glam rock album in the 2003 and make it work. Love seeing guys do what they do best. Anyways not my type of tea.
Morrissey
3/5
It was alright, just a very British mellow album from a prick. It had guitars.
Steely Dan
3/5
Fairly mellow kind of yacht rock vibes. I thought it was fairly cool but didn’t really get anywhere. I was listening to it with my father and he said to the song after which was Ventura Highway by America wow this album is getting somewhere. However, that was after the album had finished. Guys, that know how to play but surely they could’ve gone somewhere with it.
The Roots
2/5
Nothing special about this, ordinary rap at best with random and nonsensical interlude tracks. Initially thought it was a 1 but I had my eq wrong in my car that completely ruined the album.
Japan
3/5
I didn’t expect such a Duran Duran sounding album from the 80s from this but still it sounds exactly like them. For a defining moment in the progression of the New Wave genre it is awesome and set the era well following this, however in retrospect it doesn’t have the quality that later new wave albums pick up from this. Still, appreciate it significantly!
Deep Purple
3/5
Honestly would be such a cool performance to see live, but man 2 hours of that was such a draggg. Black Night three times and Speed King two like are you kidding me. Like it would be amazing to hear them live and be like OMG THEIR HITS AGAIN AND AGAIN but not for that.
Duran Duran
4/5
Duran Duran has always been a special band for me because it is my dad’s favourite band and really shaped the taste of the music that I have. Really intricate and cool usage of that real 80s sounds. Also, some really big hits with Rio and Hungry like a wolf which really boosted this brilliant album up.
The Pogues
2/5
Folk ain’t my favourite genre, or a genre I like however this was alright. Definitely the highlight was the band played Waltzing Matilda and when they sung the lyrics out of that. Classic Australian song that made me feel something, and a good end to the album. However, again not a fan of folk.
The Icarus Line
2/5
It was a noisy alt rock album, not worth the time it took listening to it and finding it online as it wasn’t on Spotify for me.
Iron Maiden
3/5
Listening to this album on an early morning road trip was exactly what this album intended to be. Great hard rockers that produced solid rock. The album started great got a bit mediocre by the end but still quality. Can appreciate the people that really love this band because it has essence.
Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
2/5
You know it was a good sounding road trip album however it became completely unmemorable and a bit dull though it.
Sparks
1/5
I am not surprised by the choice of this album by the creators of the list. However, for the rest of us normal people that are not into that general appreciation for whatever that album was would see it as just sound. I don’t get it and I don’t appreciate music that way to understand it. My girlfriend and I was ecstatic the moment that the album ended and in her words she dissociated from it. Never will listen to that album again.
The Beach Boys
3/5
You know your average sounding beach boys album, like nothing surprising just good vibes and stuff. Nothing absolutely groundbreaking like that later albums and songs but set a good benchmark for the future.
Aretha Franklin
4/5
This girl is an absolute queen, such a dynamic and incredible voice of hers backed by such brilliant musicians. Loved it, and that Chain of Fools song is so good.
Isaac Hayes
3/5
You know I wasn’t initially a big fan of this album before I listen to the interview following the album, then the album just clicked in place. I’m like man this is actually really cool. Love this style of trying to pioneer soul music.
Tom Waits
2/5
Not the biggest fan of this artistic style of Tom Waits compared to some of his other works. Not to my style as much with all of the very random and eclectic kind of use of sounds. Still Tom Waits can’t fault him too much though.
Songhoy Blues
3/5
A really cool album, gotta love stuff like this which is different from everything else on this list.
The Clash
3/5
The Clash at their most simple, missing their extra pizzazz that they gained later on. Solid real punk, but still The Clash in their essence.
Ray Price
3/5
Quality album produced by such an innovator of this soul sound in Price. Must listen to the interview as it is quality and explains the significance of the album.
Queen
4/5
Highly experimental album from Queen that is mostly fairly average apart from two Stella hits and you’re my best friend and the legendary Bohemian Rhapsody that take this album next level
Black Sabbath
3/5
It’s Black Sabbath and it’s a really great album. Love it!
Alexander 'Skip' Spence
2/5
No soul at all for this album, not the most horrible album but just such a drag and felt like I wanted to Skip this.
Nico
2/5
I love women on the list however this was just boring. No soul at all but I understand why I listened to it.
Bob Dylan
3/5
His best album, the songwriting of this album is a class above the rest of his albums as well as using a strong variety of great instruments. The list underplays Dylan, considering all his other albums that are not as strong, which diminishes what this album does. Anyways, this style of music ain't my favourite.
The Temptations
4/5
What a great Motown Record, I had only heard them from My Girl before, but these guys know their stuff. That Papa Was A Rollin' Stone song is the stuff.
Ride
3/5
Cool concept for an album, I think the Shoegaze genre is pretty neat however it just got a bit samey after a while.
Les Rythmes Digitales
3/5
Some good songs and some rubbish songs but it was an alright electronic album.
Johnny Cash
3/5
Is it Johnny Cash a legend? Still after so many years and industry? Regardless? If the album was full of covers it she still shows the greatness of him having so much meaning and thoughtfulness and such a dynamic range even into such an older age it’s just incredible great album.
Scissor Sisters
2/5
The hit was alright, the cover of comfortably numb was horrible. The rest of the songs went from somewhat rubbish to okay, I wished the album was over earlier.
PJ Harvey
2/5
A lot better than Rid of Me that sounded like an incoherent mess. Her more mature take on this makes it sounds better, however it felt bland in some parts but had some good moments. I don’t think I’m big into this kind of music.
John Lennon
3/5
Exactly what I expected from John Lennon. A bit imaginative and a bit vibey. Although it didn’t stick in my opinion. I understand why he is so popular but this album just isn’t for me. Imagine is a still a phenomenal song.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
It started a bit personal and experimental, and then it just mellowed and softened. If it maintained that feeling across the double album, I would appreciate it a bit more than I do. Too long for what it was.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Whilst I can appreciate the significance of the album through the music that came out of this and the band being women. I’m not a fan of this post punk and it felt like it didn’t go anywhere. Not horrible just not my thing.
Van Morrison
2/5
Compared to what I know of Van Morrison from Brown Eyed Girl, I had high hopes for this album. However, my expectations were not met. A mix of incoherent mess and soulless songs made it feel really lacklustre. Unsure why this album is on the list.
Led Zeppelin
3/5
Enjoyable listen, some hits were really nice but it felt too long for what it was. One of those albums that would have been better if they put more emphasis on fewer songs. But it’s still good as it is Led Zeppelin.
Gang Starr
3/5
Fairly decent rap album, did right with what it had, didn’t do anything special, just a typical 90’s rap album.
The Mothers Of Invention
1/5
“Mom can I have the beetles?”
“No son, we have the “beetles” at home.”
Stevie Wonder
5/5
I can appreciate the beauty of this album from many different lenses, but the way I view this is stemmed from the way that Stevie Wonder sees the world. The music is his eyes to the world, with the instruments being the different colours. And still it transfers to this world of colour and slight adding a much beautiful and dynamic sound that only he can envision. How could you not appreciate something as beautiful as this.
MC Solaar
4/5
I didn’t realise I would mess with French rap so much, but alas this album is just incredible. Very awesome backing with some fantastic French rapping just incredible. These albums is why I do this list.
Solomon Burke
4/5
Even though not directly related to this album when I played it was whilst in the beautiful countryside of Australia after playing in the snow with my girlfriend for the first time which felt like a movie and this album just added to the experience. It touched a perfect moment with some sweet and groovy 60s rock and roll with beautiful lyrics. Couldn’t have it any better.
The Chemical Brothers
3/5
Alright electronic album, fairly forgettable but not bad. Autoplay had better picks.
Arcade Fire
2/5
I’m not sure if I like the vibe nature of this album, like it was alight but not my thing.
Baaba Maal
3/5
I understand what Maal and their producers were trying to create: a Western-sounding album with Sudanese influence; however, it came out sounding very Sudanese. Which isn't bad, but it isn't for me.
King Crimson
2/5
Not a fan of this album; it doesn't go anywhere, and the prog elements detract from the overall experience. Not entirely bad.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, what a combination. Nothing comes close to the brilliance of pop writing that connects the whole world, as these two produced. Timeless hit after timeless hit. Might be the most legendary combination of three songs in a row with Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean. Legendary.
Garbage
3/5
Fairly fun and interesting alternative rock album, and certainly not garbage.
Basement Jaxx
2/5
I listened to this whilst the rain delay for the Spa-Francorchamps Formula One race was happening, and my god, it was such a boring electronic album. It didn't do much at all, and I seriously wanted to sleep, which electronic music is supposed to prevent, but alas, Red Alert was decent, I guess. It didn't help that the Formula One race was boring, but good on Oscar Piastri.
Buzzcocks
3/5
A hybrid mix between Punk and New Wave that was alright.
Marty Robbins
3/5
It's that real Western '50s voice, which is nice but doesn't do much more than that. Good for the era, but a bit lacklustre now.
Christina Aguilera
4/5
One of those albums that you would not play on the aux, but would play by yourself in the car because it is such a high-quality white girl album.
Dizzee Rascal
2/5
An artist who deserved all of the praise that he got; however, the album is just rubbish. There's a reason why UK Rap never gained popularity, and this is why.
Beatles
3/5
Early Beatles, a big hit with All My Loving. Half the songs sounded exactly like I Want to Hold Your Hand, which was a little uncanny, so I guess this album is a precursor to that one peculiar song.
Megadeth
3/5
Although I'm not usually a big fan of metal, these guys know how to play.
Black Sabbath
3/5
One of those albums that starts slow, but by the end, they hit it so well. Rip Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness.
Wilco
3/5
There's something beautiful about this album; although it isn't the most groundbreaking album ever, it is a nice escape to a slightly less intense one. An album that can make you appreciate life through being subtle but not devoid of essence.
Bob Dylan
3/5
The thing is, I don't hate Bob Dylan, but seriously he isn't this messiah that deserves all of this praise and 6 albums on the list. The whole album sounded the same, which isn't bad, but every one of his songs sounds so similar. You give this album to someone who isn't a music connoisseur, and they'd think it's boring and tasteless. Alas, it is just straight down the road, so it's three stars. Take one of these Dylan albums and give it to Paul Kelly or someone Australian.
Madness
3/5
Fastincating ska album with great hits, with Our House and House of Fun. Props to the drummer for being great and fun. Other than that, it's a mixture of great songs and not-so-great songs.
Simon & Garfunkel
4/5
They are both brilliant singers, indulging in great lyricism with amazing hits, with Cecilia and The Boxer with great B-sides. Soft and mellow, but something that everyone would appreciate.
Lou Reed
3/5
Lou Reed has a lot of talent, and I can appreciate that. For myself, I can't connect to his music in that same way. Rock, but just not my way.
Peter Gabriel
3/5
My goodness, it sounds a lot like early Genesis with the prog rock influence. Solsbury Hill reminds me of my Pa's old ringtone on his phone, and there is a real mix between cool experimental stuff on Slowburn and boring prog rock.
Aerosmith
4/5
A rock album that really doesn’t miss. Stella hit in walk this way and that 50s rock song in Big Ten Inch Record was so fun
The Young Rascals
3/5
Decent 60s album that is smooth and easy to listen to. Doesn't do much, but does that well.
Fela Kuti
4/5
Political: ✓
Jazz-Fusion Elements: ✓
World: ✓
Album Length: ✓
Great addition to the list, and I wish they put more of this type of music on it.
Bee Gees
2/5
I understand why the Bee Gees made this album, it was what they did best at the time, but what were the reviewers thinking?!?! Even Barry Gibb mentions that this album was pointless. Like, seriously, the list should've included their disco albums instead of this insignificant rubbish.
LTJ Bukem
3/5
This is why economics is fundamentally important, as you learn about a thing called the law of diminishing returns. The more someone is exposed to something, the less enjoyment is gain from that thing. This album is a prime example of that, a highly intricate drum and bass electronic album that flows smoothly throughout the whole album. With skilful usage of little samples that can keep you hooked, however, the sheer length of the album results in this appreciation losing all speciality. If the album were 50 minutes, I would say that this is a brilliant album that tests the water of this genre and sets it in the right place; however, I just got sick of it by the hour-and-a-half mark. Realising that there was still an hour to go after that made me want to pull my hair out. Artists, people can only enjoy so much of your stuff before it becomes null, so stop giving me these pieces that make what you are trying to add to this industry worse than it really should be. Yet, it still deserves 3 stars because it was kinda cool.
Beatles
3/5
For a Beatles album, it is one of the better ones with decent hits in Drive My Car and In My Life. However, it is the Beatles, so it doesn't do much for me. I'd be a fan in the '60s but not in this day and age.
Bonnie "Prince" Billy
3/5
For an indie folk album, it is good, but nothing too special. Those who truly love this genre will appreciate it much more than I would.
B.B. King
3/5
Blues live album from Mr King, I respect the pick on the list, but it's alright. It would be a good performance to see live.
Beastie Boys
4/5
For white rappers, I enjoy what these guys do. The amount of influence that went into making this and making it so real to the time it was created is brilliant. Some songs weren't, but it doesn't distract too much from the brilliance of this. Props to my Dad for making me listen to these guys as a kid.
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
An interesting concept album that went places, and I'm not surprised this album was chosen for this list. Flows nicely, but not my thing.
The Zutons
2/5
Not really my type of rock, so this album felt a bit bland,
Hanoi Rocks
2/5
1983 is one of my favourite years of music, so much great music produced in that year. This though, is not great it is just painfully loud and doesn’t do anything. Not my jam.
Norah Jones
4/5
Such a lovely album, soft jazz vibes with her incredible vocals make this album special. Great pick for the list.
Caetano Veloso
3/5
Fairly solid Brazilian album
Spacemen 3
2/5
Just such a boring and uninspired album. Even the book doesn't give a good reason why it should be on the list...
Steve Earle
2/5
Typical Country music, I have no idea why the list makers chose this pick, but you know it is country. I had this on shuffle and had no idea that I did until the last song, and honestly, I really don't need to hear this again.
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
For a lot more mellow and less developed Simon & Garfunkel, it doesn't reach the same high of some of their other albums. Feels more soulless and like they aren't using their potential. Homeward Bound is a great song, but it isn't as developed as their later hits.
Leonard Cohen
2/5
This album is definitely for those who truly appreciate music and the sophisticated spoken words that Cohen employs in his work. Personally, I'm not a fan of this style of music, as it is just too slow and more spoken.
Carpenters
4/5
It is quite a beautiful album, with Karen Carpenter's incredible and soft vocals. A classic hit in Close To You and some strangely forward drumming in Love Is Surrender. Fairly good, apart from when Richard comes on and takes away from the brilliance of Karen, but alas, a great 70s album.
Ramones
4/5
You know, this skating music ain't too bad. It's got a consistent and safe beat throughout the whole album, but it works really well. Simple, catchy and just fun like some guys want to just rock.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Such a great raw and great rock sound. For a debut, this gotta be one of the best, no wonder they got so big.
3/5
The elements of a great album, with great elements of jazz, rock, soul and a touch of reggae, with talented musicians. However, this album feels a bit soulless, like it is missing that extra 10% to make it much better. It feels bland and repetitive in places. Seems like an album that influenced a lot of other work, and I commend them for that, just wish it went further.
Tom Waits
3/5
Honestly I like this era of Tom Waits, like the slow blues jazz influences with this. His voice suits this style really well and makes it set the scene well.
Duke Ellington
3/5
Apart from the last song, the album felt like covers that missed the extra percent that the original song delivered. Ellington is a talented musician but it likely isn’t his best work.
Morrissey
2/5
Screw this guy, doesn't help that he is such a rubbish artist. This album is reminiscent of a "vibey" 80s album, much like the trend that is currently ruining the industry. His voice is just so creepy and icky, which highlights the worst version of British accents. Who tf likes this guy? Probs the worst person you know. I Don't Mind If You Forget Me was decent, I guess,
The Rolling Stones
4/5
You know, apart from all of the blatant misogyny that is in this album, it is pretty good. Great hits in Paint It, Black and Under My Thumb, and good album tracks, especially for the 60s. I'd definitely be a fan of them any day over the Beatles.
Prince
3/5
If it were made by anyone else apart from Prince, I think it would be a better album than it was. The theming and atmosphere of the album were good, but not delivered by Prince. Just not the biggest fan of him.
2/5
A rather uninspiring album that doesn't offer much. Like it's listenable but not that exciting.
The Monkees
3/5
A nice light hearted 60s album with the standard kind of feel. First few songs were great but it faded away over time. That Zilch song was strange though.
Buddy Holly & The Crickets
3/5
A sweet nice 50s album that is quite basic compared to more modern albums but still has its nice essences. Really appreciate the run time.
Derek & The Dominos
3/5
The title of the album speaks perfectly to what the album is: Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs. Layla is one of the best rock songs that has ever been performed. The rest... Bell Bottom Blues is actually a great song, but seriously, it's such a boring drag of blues rock with little sustenance. They should have cut around four songs and made the rest of the songs build up to the significance of Layla because it deserves it. Eric Clapton, you can do so much better.
Sinead O'Connor
2/5
Talented vocalist, with great messages and nice nods to Irish music, but seriously, it's such a drag and forgettable album. The single of Nothing Compares 2 U
doesn't add that much to the album. Good addition to the list, but not my style.
The United States Of America
2/5
I was initially scared of the amount of experimental undertones this album had in its first minute; however, it wasn't too bad. Not my taste, especially as the album isn't grounded and feels like it floats around with nothing special that would make it good.
Frank Zappa
3/5
Honestly, not a terrible jazz fusion album. So much better than his The Mothers Of Invention stuff.
The Mothers Of Invention
1/5
Weird band, like the first half of the album was just bland, uninspired 60s music, but then to just make nonsensual music at the end that was such a delight to listen to is incredible. Likely will be the worst artist on the list.
Kate Bush
2/5
Personally, as someone who has never listened to a full album of hers, I thought her music leaned into the new wave era of the eighties. However, to my disappointment, this album pushed against my assumptions and made an artisty pop album. While the album is quite beautiful and captures her vibe well, god, it's dull. I can see why someone would be interested in this album, but not for me!
Ghostface Killah
3/5
This album has me feeling a bit mixed. There are some incredible tracks that do a great job at sampling, showcasing the brilliance of his voice and are just polished. However, some of the tracks are just plain rubbish, like no soul and essence, and it just distracts from a great listening experience. I see the hype, but it could have been great.
3/5
I'm going to offend 90% of the people on the website when I say this, but why the hell is this album rated as one of the best albums ever? We are not in 1967, we are in 2025... There is not much that is special to modern ears, like Wow, that is groundbreaking. It sounds like an album produced by some talented musicians on drugs, not by some of the greatest artists ever. If this were 1967, then, sure, with the talent in the industry at the time, I would commend this album with the nature of the industry. This dreamy, loose, and psychedelic album does not meet the standards that a modern music listener can enjoy. Give this album to someone who has not listened to this album before, and you will be shocked to see how they will rate it. I know that, as this is my first time listening to this album, as someone who wants to like all different types of music. Not bad, but insanely overrated.
The Clash
4/5
What an album, these British ska punk rockers know how to define a genre. Usually, not a big punk fan, but there is something about these guys that creates such fun and engaging music. The drummer, Headon, is incredible and is instrumental to this album's glory. Need to give my praise to Lost in the Supermarket, underrated hit.
Circle Jerks
3/5
The raw energy in this album is truly great, conveying a youthful sound that perfectly captures what they wanted to express in the time they allotted for the song. No song dragged, and the album perfectly suited the rally stage I was driving on when listening to it. Nothing groundbreaking, but it was refreshing.
Frank Sinatra
4/5
There’s a reason why people glorify the 50s, and Sinatra is apart of that. Such a dynamic voice that is backed by a sweet swinging jazz band. No misses, just a great well rounded album.
Astrud Gilberto
4/5
Such a beautiful album, paints such a sweet picture, like being on the beach with a partner, enjoying a pretty sunset (apart from that Circus song). Nice ambient music, that really makes you appreciate life for what it is. Beautiful voice that highlights the brilliance of samba jazz!
American Music Club
3/5
Didn’t honestly understand why this album was meant to be on here, like the first song was pretty good and then it fizzled out. The list guys need to look up Australian Rock because holy cow they make a lot more significant stuff then this random American rock band. Middle of the road nothingness.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Without any major hits, this just shows Elvis’s insane talent. Just a sweet and beautiful voice that really does not age. Always appreciate an album of his.
The Stone Roses
4/5
I am pleasantly surprised by this album, for once, a nice indie album that has nice guitar bits. It's like the Smiths if Morrissey didn't suck and touches of the Cure, which is a good thing.
Nick Drake
3/5
Nice and chill album, like I listened to it in the perfect way, just softly in the background. Nothing too special, but a good listen.
Joe Ely
3/5
It was a decent country album, but seriously nothing special at all. The book seriously mentions how he was underrated and deserved more attention as a member of the Clash. Not really deserving of this list, but whatever, I guess.
Sarah Vaughan
3/5
What a dynamic, beautiful voice that perfectly fits the skilful jazz band that backs her. The fact that this is a real album, which has a nice interaction with the audience, yet remains professional and genuine.
The Beach Boys
4/5
By far, The Beach Boys' best album, there are really no low points in the album. Their best hits, mixed with slightly experimental and polished album tracks that are worth the hype. One of the best 60s albums, and it deserves the goat that lies on the front cover.
Gotan Project
3/5
Not a bad hybrid between Tango and electronic music; it did well. Felt a bit lacklustre apart from the first song, which showed why these genres can work together.
3/5
Luckily for this album, I am listening to it at the time the artist intended for it to be listened to. At night. The atmospheric nature of the album, with the Brazilian influences, works in tandem. However, if I listened to this in the day or when I was more alert, this album would be a massive drag.
Adele
3/5
Definitely her best album, so many unbelievably massive songs in this album that showcases her incredible voice. This list needs more attention to the pop albums that defined eras like this one, as real niche albums that the curators of the list like are slightly too prevalent. Great album, doesn’t grab me.
Rod Stewart
4/5
I've always been a casual fan of Stewarts, appreciating some of his bigger hits. This album is a nice blend of folk-rock style music, which I usually don't enjoy, but I do for Rod. His British raspy voice pairs brilliantly with this album.
Tim Buckley
2/5
My first score below 3 in 16 albums... I understand the significance behind the album, a singer-songwriter folk 60s album, and the father of a certain Jeff. But what a dull album. Nothing was exciting about this album.
Public Enemy
3/5
Understand why this album was made, and why I was made to listen to this. But it does not mesh well with me. The issues that they discuss were prevalent in their community; however, not all of their views hold well... Not bad but not brilliant.
The Byrds
2/5
Just so boring, another Psychedelic Rock album that sounds like a dull Beatles and Dylan album. Silly list for putting 5 albums of them in it.
Stereo MC's
3/5
It's got all of the elements of a great electronic rap album, but the vocals are so underwhelming. It's missing the energy that the sampling delivers. Had the potential to be great, but slips into good obscurity.
Siouxsie And The Banshees
2/5
Love women on the list; however, another boring album from Siouxsie And The Banshees. A kind of bland punk sound that doesn't help with a mellow tone that persists through the album. Never been a big fan of that post-punk sound, and this album doesn't help.
Korn
2/5
What a rubbish metal album, seriously, I can't find much of this album to like. His voice is just creepy and doesn't suit the bland backing band that can't get anything right. Also, the homophobia and misogyny are present throughout the whole album, which is just gross. Why is this band so popular is something I can't understand.
Tito Puente
3/5
It was a nice Latin dance album with nice jazz elements. It was a refreshing listen, and something that paired well with my mother listening along too. Felt that the album got a bit repetitive over time and didn’t add much more, but still enjoyed it.
Stan Getz
4/5
Nice, quaint jazz album that is soft and sweet. Brilliant music to have in the background, but still stellar in the foreground.
Joy Division
2/5
This list has taught me that Post-Punk is my least favourite genre. This album proves that, being so bland, bleak, boring and a tad soulless. Do only depressed people like Joy Division, because I have no idea why anyone would listen to this otherwise. It lacks any sustenance that makes music, music.
Kid Rock
1/5
Seriously stupid album, a white guy singing low effort crappy metal music?!?! The lyrics were so terrible, so misogynistic and show how low life this guy is. Also, the fact that he is one of the major MAGA celebrities is the perfect description of how terrible this regime is.
Led Zeppelin
4/5
A brilliant album, featuring fun riffs that highlight their greatness. An undeniable classic, but not to their heights of I and IV, but still brilliant.
Steely Dan
3/5
Talented musicians, good jazz influences and chill music. How could you possibly not make the greatest album of all time, yet it steps into mediocrity. Aja is objectively better, but I'm always disappointed with Steely Dan. Like, they have the potential to be great, but never did act on it.
The Last Shadow Puppets
3/5
It's quite a soothing album, with various instrumentation that helped progress the modern indie rock scene. It is quite boring, though.
Gorillaz
2/5
For the cultural significance of this band, I'm somewhat disappointed in how the album turned out. It is highly experimental and does neat little things, but it is so DULL. Not a fan one bit.
U2
3/5
I've never been a big fan of U2; their sound is just too floaty. Bono's voice isn't the greatest thing ever, but it works well for this type of music. The album is kind of meh, but it's music.
Eminem
3/5
Listening to this album reminds me of the fact that there are 13 and 14-year-old boys who listen to his music and take what he says seriously. Like all of the blatant misogyny, homophobia and just low-life stuff he raps with constantly. Some of the backing tracks are golden, and the hits are hits for a reason. If you relate to this guy, grow up, and maybe then you'll be able to talk to women.
Prince
3/5
Definitely Prince's best album, Purple Rain, is a testament to how incredible guitar solos can be. Fairly good hits, the other album tracks didn't hit the spot.
Mudhoney
3/5
For an early, refined but raw grunge album, it is fairly good. I'm quite happy with the album length, being 21 minutes (I did listen to three songs that were included in other releases).
Cocteau Twins
3/5
From a listening perspective, I'm surprised that this album isn't on the list for the most controversial albums because I can definitely hear it clicking with people's taste buds or absolutely hating everything about this album. For me, I was allured by the mixture of a dreamy rock album with atmospheric vocals and a more concrete and polished backing beat. Though honestly, whilst I was fascinated by this, it didn't gel with me, and it felt a bit repetitive and soulless by the end. Very glad I listened to it though.
R.E.M.
3/5
Compared to the other R.E.M albums on the list it just didn’t mesh as well, feeling quite dull. Stand was a nice refreshing song that sounded like their best.
Grant Lee Buffalo
3/5
It was nothing, a fairly acoustic album that was soft and relaxing, but it didn't provide much. One of the writers must have been really fond of this album and was like, Why not include it. No hate to the artist, it was a pleasant listen, just not book-worthy.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
She is an excellent singer, easy listening and soft album, which is nice. Doesn't connect to me the same way a lot of other women do in the 60s, a little surprised she is British.
Ali Farka Touré
3/5
Not every album on the list has to be the greatest thing ever, but albums like this add so much life to the book. Sets a nice atmosphere, and the apparent local influences are pretty cool. This being his last album sets him off very well.
Barry Adamson
2/5
This is such an interesting album; it has great influences and instrumentation in Something Wicked This Way Comes and Miles. However, the rest of the album kind of falls short. I'm not too much of a fan of the Leonard Cohen influence or the experimental vocal elements like in Vermillion Kisses. Not really my thing.
Kate Bush
3/5
Am I a fan of Kate Bush? No. Am I a fan of Art Pop? No. Undeniably, I think this album deserves its flowers. This is an album that is painted like a picture, with interesting elements that are so unlike the music that was put out at that time. Although, doesn't fit the sound that my ears like listening to.
Run-D.M.C.
3/5
The highs on the album are really high, with the first four tracks being bangers. That middle run of songs was such a drag, though, it's like they put all of their effort into the hits and ignored the rest. The album closes well, though.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
This album is produced very well and definitely paints a picture of why he is liked by the reviewers on the list. I'm just not really a fan of his style, and the production doesn't really change that for me.
Happy Mondays
2/5
This album screams the most boring parts of Britpop. It really just feels soulless, and the list makers really need to escape their British and American biases.
Charles Mingus
4/5
I really do have a soft spot for jazz, and this album touches that spot. A beautiful and experimental album that was both fun and brilliant.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
This album is sick. I have never seen Superfly, but I might have to after listening to this. Just such a fun soul funk album, with such a smoooooth voice. Great instrumentation and fills my ears with joy.
Suzanne Vega
3/5
I love it when they put talented women artists on the list; it brings some needed diversity. It's still an average singer-songwriter album, though, even if I'm quite fond of her voice.
Super Furry Animals
2/5
The interesting instrumentation of this album does not save it from being completely washed out by the most bland singer I have heard. Though, the songs around Juxtapozed with U are decent, it really does not save the album.
Dusty Springfield
3/5
The things that would make this album special are diminished by the fact that it is mostly full of cover songs by black artists. No doubt that she is a great singer and leads women in music forward in this era. Not a bad listen though.
Jimmy Smith
4/5
Just a brilliant jazz album, just smooth and great for the ears.
3/5
For a new wave post-punk band, this album wasn't horrible; it was a bit fun and experimental. Any more songs and I'd be completely sick of it.
The Temptations
3/5
Great artist, they all have so much talent, and it was well produced. Just felt a little bit lacklustre and that they couldn't mesh out the brilliance that they have.
The Modern Lovers
2/5
There's not much to gripe about this album; it was alright, but I'm just not a fan of his voice and the way he uses it in this. Many people compare this to The Doors, and I hear the similarities; however, Jim Morrison has character and emotion in his voice that this singer will never possess. This album features bland and non-dynamic instrumentation that gives nothing.
The Prodigy
2/5
This was not a special electronic album. Apart from the Speedway song, it seemed to lack the eagerness to really speak to me.
Moby Grape
3/5
It has all the hallmarks of a 1960s album, but honestly, it wasn't horrible. Has a nice sounding country voice, and has a lot of inspiration from the Beatles. Overall, it wasn't that innovative. It is music that sounds like music, but I'd rather listen to jazz from that era.
Hugh Masekela
4/5
Apart from whatever that last song was, this album is so beautiful. I love the easy to listen to background music, yet masterful playing.
Depeche Mode
3/5
For a non-post punk band, they sound remarkably similar to one. The synthpop elements are nice, but honestly, I'm not really a fan of the vibe of the album, as the moody feel is not to my liking for a new wave album. The hits are alright, though.
Ray Charles
4/5
Beautiful album, Charles's so smooth and rounded voice backed by a stunning arrangement makes music to my ears. It was such a nice album that I had to listen to the second volume.
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
2/5
There's nothing about this album that is worth praising; it's dull with weird lyrics that are not great. It's not the most horrible album, but this glam album really does nothing to deserve a place on the list.
Prefab Sprout
3/5
As a fan of new wave, the vocals and melody are not particularly special. There are so many better choices of British new wave than this. For instance, Go West and Johnny Hates Jazz. However, the songwriting, whilst a bit peculiar, is quite imaginative and creative, which is why I think the list makers added this album. I am quite fond of the drumming, though simplistic and not experimental, it is just so clear and really brings the album together.
Elvis Costello
2/5
One of those albums that was chosen for its brilliance in songwriting. I can't deny Costello's ability to write a song. However, the rest of the album was quite dull, even if he tries a variation of instrumentation. Honestly, listening to the album made me realise that his voice sounds distinctly familiar to a certain Glen Quagmire...
Iggy Pop
3/5
Usually not the style of music I enjoy, but I don't mind this one. The Passenger is such a classic song and brings this album to life, showcasing his brilliance. The punk and rock elements are quite fun and sometimes a bit random, but nothing I wouldn't expect from him. Not bad.
Hüsker Dü
3/5
I'd rather another R.E.M. album over this pick. Anything that these guys did in this album is completely overshadowed by them. The album was so samey the whole way through, but honestly, the music is not bad. There's something about this album that somewhat resonated with me, even if I think I wouldn't be losing anything by listening to it again. I'll get back to listening to R.E.M.
Ella Fitzgerald
3/5
Let’s get the elephant out of the room. This album is way too long for what it is. It felt like it. Sometimes it felt like she was singing whatever lyric was just placed in front of her, and it resulted in quite bizarre songs. Some of those songs were quite fun, though. However, if I had to listen to an artist's album for three hours, she would be a top pick due to the music being so easy to listen to. Her voice is so soft and placed well, and the beautiful backing band pairs really nicely. If the album had the quality of the first three songs, I would probably appreciate it more, but alas, it's not a bad album for its length.
Terence Trent D'Arby
3/5
Cool album, cool concept, I feel like it is missing something. All of the hits sound distinctly like other songs, even if I don't exactly know what they are. His voice is nice, but not particularly special. The production is nice, because it is my favourite era of music. Maybe he will grow on me, but at this moment, it is alright.
Tortoise
2/5
I understand why the list pickers would have chosen this album, but for the average music listener, ya... nah. Some moments on this album were quite nice, like Glass Museum, but that was more of an exception to the album than the norm. I just felt that a lot of random sounds were placed together that didn't feel coherent, which is kind of the purpose of the album, but does not suit my listening style.
The Kinks
3/5
I'm fairly certain there is a correlation between the lyrical and musical safety of this album and the current state of that generation. I'm not surprised that the albums they grew up with, while innovative at the time, have a deep-rooted sense of conservatism. There's nothing that screams from this album that this is changing the status quo of previously held views in both the United States and Britain, and instead instils the same values and thought perspectives as they had at the time. This generation, when revisiting this album in their plight to resonate with a simpler time in their view. It would reinforce their opinion that challenging the glory days of these countries' diminishing empires would only worsen their standing in the world. Now more than ever, new thinking and perspectives are needed to bring these countries forward into the future.
N.W.A.
4/5
What do they have against Sting?
Kings of Leon
3/5
Not surprised if the list makers would have chosen this album on the first list, however adding this on to the later additions is quite strange. Sure I do enjoy this Sex is on Fire and Use Somebody as the average person does. But the rest of the album is like alright, but they really feel like album tracks that feel sweet, but lacking any real substance that the hits produce. Honestly it’s a good indie rock album that I’m sure my girlfriend would more enjoy than me.
Moby
4/5
This review might make some people feel old, but my dad used to play this album in the car when I was a kid, and man, it still holds up great to this day. Apart from the first two tracks, which are a great disappointment, each track is special and is produced very well. Great stuff.
Suede
2/5
Honestly, wasn’t the biggest fan of this album. The dull and lack of substance rock albums are so plentiful on this list for some reason, and this was definitely one of them. If I was doing something of substance maybe it would be nice but as a vocal point it doesn’t do enough to reel and capture me in.
Jacques Brel
3/5
Honestly the album is quite easy to listen to and nice with it being French but there’s little sustenance in it. The album is live, but it is spiced which is a weird combination and results in there being no flow between the songs and no story. What’s annoying is the next song on autoplay by Brel was significantly better. Not bad but disappointing.
Holger Czukay
2/5
You know it was a quite interesting and fascinating album. The shorter songs like the Persian song were quite cool, but others were just too experimental and abstract for my taste. German songs influences are pretty cool. The longer songs really tank the score.
Drive-By Truckers
3/5
Out of all of the days to get this album, this was probably the best day. I was actually in the American South (from Australia) on a day trip. So this album definitely was made for the environment that I was in. His love and appreciation for Neil Young and especially Lynyrd Skynyrd that were how old is the only thing that made sense in Alabama. That George Wallace guy can totally get screwed and headed to hell. For the actual album it was nothing particularly special but certainly southern influenced. Lynyrd Skynyrd.
