Reviews (page 4 of 13)

Hits every criteria of a 5 - Likely influential - At least one notable musician - I liked it - I saved a song - Cohesive Loved Gasoline Dreams and the hits (BOB, Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean ect)

What a great rap album. A classic. So many good hits, but also so many deep cuts. On heavy rotation at my parties.

Well. This is gold and timeless. While OutKast are critically lauded and also popular, I feel they do not receive the same kind of acclaim some of their peers get (I guess in a way they live up to their name heh). Yet here they are with this masterpiece of a record that is consistently fun and pop, while being true to their hip hop roots. I don't think I can say more than other, more articulate reviewers have, but this is a top record.

What an overwhelming album. A wild fusion of hip-hop and funk that sounds like nothing else. And it’s a big album too. The chorus of “Gasoline Dreams” is incredible - such a hard beat, such a catchy hook. “So Fresh, So Clean” and “Ms. Jackson” are fantastic - insanely catchy songs that have reached a higher level in the culture (and still sound great after 1000 listens). Jeez, “B.O.B.” moves at such a breakneck speed. The music morphs and changes throughout while André 3000 and Big Boi spit rapid-fire. And those are just the major tracks. There’s a ton of inventive music here from hard-hitting rap to more playful and goofy songs. A weird, eccentric, awesome album.

Yes!! This is basically the record that got me into hip-hop so I have a lot of love for it. Sure, there a couple of misses and the skits aren't always great, but there are so many incredible high points on this album to make up for it. Kicking off with so much energy with Gasoline Dreams and then the cooler-than-a-polar-bear's-toenails So Fresh So Clean; Ms. Jackson and B.O.B are two of the best hip-hop singles of all time; Humble Mumble has one of the best beat switches of all time; ?, Red Velvet and the closer are all incredible yet overlooked tracks. Just an absolutely fire record

A modern mainstream masterpiece.

Wowza this things is nuts. Everything about this album is so creative and funky and wonky but it just works so well. The beats Go. So. Goddamn. Hard. It feels like you’re in a hip hop carnival there’s just so many crazy things going on. Andre and Big Boi are incredible lyricists and rappers. I think I could listen to Andre rap about anything all day. I’m absolutely blown away by this album. 10/10

A fucking 5

Phenomenal album

Monólogos da Intro. So Fresh, So Clean tem coisas boas. Ms Jackson é famosa. I'll Call B4 I Cum tem uns samples interessantes.

Classic. All time

Absolutely loved.

Wow I forgot what a great album this was

I've listened to this album a bunch of times, I think this is the weakest of outkasts albums, but even then this album is still a solid fucking 9 which means it gets the ole 5/5 score.

A really innovative album that still sounds fresh. A bridge between 90s gansta rap and current rap.

Ushered in a new age of hip hop

The place where all funny things come from

They really have something unique and special. Not as good as Speakerboxx/The Live Below but close and still top notch.

This is my favorite OutKast album. I listened to this so much back in the day that it almost sounds like a greatest hits compilation to me now. Especially those first 3 songs! It's like a three punch combo ending on an uppercut. Though I love the bursting-at-the-seams creativity of Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, this album is the absolute peak of Big Boi and Andre 3000 working together fluidly. Two things I love about OutKast: 1) their uncanny ability to cover such an incredibly wide range of emotions/subjects (and somehow blend it all together in a way that feels natural and smooth), and 2) their fearlessness in simply being themselves. Perhaps it is being outside of the East Coast/West Coast scenes that allowed them/forced them to sort of go all out in terms of forging their own unique identity? Whatever the reason, I am thankful they put it out there.

This was a compelling listen! Lots of layers that reveal themselves on multiple listens on this funky outing. The range is really remarkable. Andre 3000 is such a distinctive performer in top form here. The production is on-point throughout. I've only ever really heard the singles before, but I can see why this is an enduring favourite for many. Rating: 4.5/5 Fave tracks: Ms. Jackson, B.O.B., Humble Mumble, Cruisin' in the ATL

Always amazing listem this álbum

Wow. Two classics two days in a row. This is easily five years ahead of any other hip hop album in 2000. The messed up productions with reversed snares and all manner of odd going on. Andre and Big Boi both delivering classic bars on every track. The fact it killed East and West dealer than the bullets that hit Tupac and Biggie, because the only correct answer was South. Take Gasoline Dreams, BOB, Miss Jackson and So Fresh So Clean. Each is so different to the last and each is a great song. It's got a Killer Mike feature a decade before the world caught up with him!

4 Saf7at Men 3l Bouheli Mte3 Dostoevsky. Still Sick

It’s very obvious to me when I peaked based on the current music I owned at the time.

An absolute classic.

Outkast RULES

Snappin and trappin is a hard skip But the rest of the album slaps so i round up to 5 stars

4.5/5. Very impressive album, very unique, great shit

I do, of course, love Ms. Jackson and the other hits from OutKast, but I never listened to the full album! This was excellent listening.

Easy five. Never realised how much influence Childish Gambino takes from this, especially on Awaken My Love. Cee Lo has popped up as a feature on heaaapps of the hip hop albums on here, man was prolific. Killer Mike on Strappin & Trappin takes the feature crown on this one though. Humble Mumble is a huge track as well. Impossible not to mention Ms Jackson, up there with the greatest songs of all time.

Snappy and melodious tracks namely in 'So Fresh, So Clean' and 'Ms. Jackson', 'Stankonia' is an obvious favorite with important contributions to hip-hop. Unapologetically OutKast, this album shines through its thoughtful beats, which in tandem with soulful rap, renders it one of the best OutKast albums. Fun, memorable, and clever; OutKast remains a treasured hip-hop sensation.

Outkast at their best, full of classic songs and really fun sounds.

Cool hip hop album

So fresh

YESSSSS! Oh how I miss these hip hop albums which are pure story telling with the crazy interludes. This was teenage Grace's absolute JAM, thank God for friends from Cov in school always bringing the edge and the grit into my middle class privileged life! This is a prime example of a classic hip hop album of the early noughties and I love it so much! Exciting innovative sounds, catchy hooks, lightning raps, bouncy beats, hard-hitting lyrics, important topics, it's got everything for me. When you listen, you can tell exactly what era it's from (although I was listening to this well after it came out as I was 8 at that point haha, the album is timeless!) I wouldn't change the album and it definitely belongs on this list!

Classic album. I’d do 4.5 if I could just bc it’s not perfect. Hard to do better than OutKast

My favourite album ever. I even enjoy the skits on it. So creative that a lot of it doesnt sound dated yet. So many good percussion led songs. Love it from start to finish

Literally broke ground for southern hip hop. Bops for days, for weeks, for years.

The best hip-hop music to come out of Atlanta. Beats, Boasts, and Bars.

Not sure what I need to say here, but all of the songs on this album are hiphop anthems. Outkast deserve their status as GOATs of hiphop and this album is one of their best works.

It makes sense they had to virtually split up after this, they had become too powerful

This is a great album! BOB is one of my all time favorite rap songs. Not a fan of the Interlude tracks.

Few, if any, do it like Outkast.

This album starts out on an absolute tear, with Snappin & Trappin being the first song that I don't think of as an absolute classic. Honestly, though, every song on this album is good. For the most part, you could drop this album today and it would be just as impactful as it was when it was release. It's aged much better than most early 00s hip-hop 5/5

Classic. 10/10. We all know this.

Of course I already listened to this one, but I am not (grieving) to listen to it again. What a crazy album, it deserves a 5 based on B.O.B alone, but personally I'm hovering a 4.2 to 4.6 rating. Such a creative album though, I'll give it a 5 because I want it to be recognized as one of the greats.

second outkast album for me (but this one's older), i liked the other one well enough but it was way too long. really liking this first song 'gasoline dreams'. okay this album's going to be a 5 lol. it's amazing so far. snappin & trappin sounding a bit disjointed, but i kinda like it anyway. killer mike was awesome i love you killer mike. okay i'm done, fave songs: gasoline dreams, so fresh so clean, B.O.B. great album, i'm giving it a second listen rn, snappin & trappin just clicked for me so that's cool.

Killer Mike!

Top notch

I had forgotten how much I love Stankonia. It’s amazing how frantic and up beat it is, but at the same time functions as chill background music.

Stone cold classic. Amazing beats, poignant varied lyrics, absolute bops.

Fucking classic

Bangers all around, clearly a very influential album. Heavy at times, but even at those times, really fun to listen to. Capturing some real humanity with sick beats, varied sound, rooted in funk, soul, hip hop, electronic.

Brilliant album

Love the group they good

Absolute classic album. Remember buying this on CD at Uni and it not sounding like the sort of hip hop I was used to. So many good tracks on here.

Sick album. Awesome beats, lyrics, production, legacy, influence. Ticks all the boxes. 9/10

Such a great album. Not my favourite OutKast album but still hard to find real fault.

Its hard for this to come right after MBDTF because this is better so should probably get above a 5 somehow but thats not how this works

Hip-hop de qualidade, lindo lindooo

Banger

Perfection

Dang this album is so good!!!

Great craic.

An all time classic

Love this album!!!

I love Outkast

Legends

So sick

One of my favourite albums. Not keen on the skits and a lot of it is incomprehensible to me but ...

don't care for the interludes but still cohesive ms jackson classic misogyny but it slaps

Kim and Cookie sound fun Love the ‘break’ before every song Need to listen to more experimental southern rap stuff

Had listened once before

Amazing album..... Personal favourites 1. Red velvet 2.Spaghetti junction 3. Ms jackson America was pretty cool in 2000's afterall

Amazing.

This is a wonderful hop-hop album, really something unique and special. Not many tracks I already knew here apart from Ms. Jackson, however it is tight, it flows nicely and doesn't get old. I will definitely give it 4 stars, maybe 3.5 on RYM but maybe higher. However, I am surprised they wouldn't include other Outkast albums on this list, I would rather put something like Aquemini which was groundbreaking for it's time and still sounds great.

Outkast is a rapping contradiction. Over the course of one track, you get highly intelligent lyrics and unbelievably crude lyrics in the same rap. It’s a bit unsettling to me and makes it difficult to enjoy. The skits seem to become the same - some clever, some crass. I suppose it represents the duality of the band. Andre 3000 and Big Boi are two very different sounding artists. At times they sound better as separate vocalists, but sometimes it works out for the better like “B.O.B.”, one of the best new-to-me songs I’ve heard over the course of this project. Hip Hop and Rap are not my favorite genres, but this record is impressive in its scope and originality. Now I can see why they are so revered by the music industry. 4 stars

While Speakerboxxx/The Love Below found the Outkast members separating into their own sound, Stankonia exemplifies how the duo could work brilliantly together. Andre 3000's meowing, clearly soul-inspired vocals blend beautifully with Big Boi's blistering, sometimes slightly angry, rapping. According to the artists, they didn't listen to rap at all while recording the album, and it shows — if you stripped away the lyrics, the instrumentals sounded like rave electronics, funk, or old rock, but certainly not like the slow, languid beats of late-90s hip-hop. I'd even say that in some places, the songs could be mistaken for Cypress Hill or Rage Against the Machine (not surprising, considering B-Real raps on one track, and another was remixed by Zack de la Rocha). A very juicy and cheerful album, despite the serious topics it often raises, which, however, are sometimes relieved by humorous skits.

It's crazy that an album this weird gave them the most commercial success they'd had to this point. I think it's a clear step down from the last two (which aren't in this book????), but it's still really great and fascinating.

I was quite surprised by this one. Definitely a lot more than just the singles, and even the skits didn't annoy me.

lotta gas, bit of ass

Funny to get both OutKast albums on this list within a week or two each other. Might have been one of the first rap albums I ever listened to. Don’t remember much except the few hit songs, so will be interesting to give it a listen again. Such an interesting sound on so much of it. It’s a rap album with some funk, rock influences that really make it stand out. And sometimes it’s just straight forward hard rap. So Fresh, So Clean and Mrs Jackson is great back to back. Awesome tracks. How are these songs 25+ years old!? Damn. This is a fun album that has enough variety to keep you interested. But it is definitely a little too long. There are some songs in the middle of the album and towards the end that don’t match the quality of the better songs earlier on. I think this is a solid 4. At times it reaches 5 level, but seems to drag a little too much at times. Really good though. Love a lot of it, even the songs that aren’t timeless classics.

Lot's of good on this album and a bit that's not for me GOOD: Sorry Ms. Jackson and So Fresh, So Clean. NOT FOR ME: Snappin' and Trappin'. Overall good outweighs bad - 4/5

7/10 Fantastic album. A couple songs I didn't add but for the most part this is full of bangers

Really great Hip Hop album. The first third in particular is just so good. Really enjoyed this one.

B.O.B Gangsta Shit

Wow, what a stanky album. I was born right after OutKast split and I have never been very into hip hop in general so I hadn't heard basically any of their music before. The album had a very brash sound and some quite profound lyrics for an album called Stankonia. Overall this was a very enjoyable listening experience.

I enjoyed it plenty, B.O.B was my favorite

Liked Gangsta Shit the most, also ofc So Fresh So Clean. Music made me feel like smoking a cig at a bar lowk sounded mix of jazz and raggae (few songs). Liked it but will not listen to daily

Violent and chill in harmony

Some cheesy parts but overall an exceptional album start to finish. OutKast is a legend.

Great album. I owned a copy of this album on cd in high school. Several hits and great songs. Musically diverse.

One of my favorite rap duos. Outlast has always been unique but its really Andre 3000 is the one that speaks to me. Big Boi's alright but Andre's weirdness is what gets me.

Outkast - Stankio An absolute smorgasbord of selection box of a Woolworths pick n mix of an album. It's all over the place. And pretty much all those places are great places indeed Funk, house, soul, techno, rock, psychedelia infused rap? Yes please! When it wasn't punching me in the chest with Gasoline Dreams and Bombs over Baghdad, it was soothing my mind - So Fresh, So Clean & I'll Call Before I come. So many shades of Prince and Funkadelic poking their way through - Ms Jackson and pretty all the others. Loved it. Was it too long? Maybe. What would I drop? Apart from the just too weird closing title track, I don't know. Best Track - Bombs over Baghdad. Instantly became a classic in my ears. Rock, gospel, jungle, techno, rap Worst Track - Stankonia. Could happily have his six minutes back. 8.5/10

A real force of nature.

This album ha some great tracks. It also has some just ok tracks, useless skits, and a whole lot of bloat. Cutting the bloat would make this an easy 5. As it is, I looked at where I was in the 24 (!?!) track list way too much for this to be great.

Marko -4.5 Sara-4

Snappin' & Trappin'

Stanky prog-hop/hip-prog? nice

So much variety. Probably not their best release but hard to complain. 7/10

This is a fantastic album but I do think it could use just a little trimming. It's right on the edge of five stars for me.

Good vibes

Fun listen, and the ones I already loved I still loved

Ms Jackson is classic

solid 4.0. Álbum divertido

First things first, B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad) is simply one of the coolest songs to ever exist, period. Outside of that, there are a lot of pretty great songs in here. Gasoline Dreams, Ms. Jackson, and Humble Mumble all stood out to me. I also enjoyed "?" even though it was weird. Despite all the bangers, there are a few that fall flat. I honestly just didn't like Snappin' & Trappin', I'm not really sure what Toilet Tisha was going for, and I feel like you can cut all the interludes and lose nothing. Way more bangers than not, though, absolutely worth a listen.

So fresh

A fantastic album which ran a little long and could have been a bit nicer to women... 7/10

Can’t listen to this much in clean conscience but definitely one of the best rap albums ever

Agree with Mikey Mike and the funky bunch.

Entertaining album from these guys, very fun, and actually pretty diverse musically. It's also much more melodic than many rap albums. Every song has a distinct feel and personality but, like too many albums, it goes on too long. I felt like I was watching episodes of the show "Atlanta" as I was listening.

Outkast is always great - I think this is slightly below the speakerboxx/love below level, but has great songs like Mrs. Jackson, Bombs Over Baghdad, and So Fresh So Clean

8.5 / 10

Some very good stuff in here, I really wanted to give it a 5 but I just can't see myself listening to it again

B.O.B. is a 5 every time. BUT, no matter how good your album is, if it is over an hour it's too long. 3.5⭐️ but rounding up for the singles.

Finally another rap album. And one that I know is good even without listening all the way through before. I think Andre 300 is overrated but I’ve heard too many good things abt this album for it to be bad. Intro is really cool. Very unique. Production on gasoline dreams is really good. Love how they use the guitar. Love a good fade from one song to the next. So fresh so clean is an absolute classic. What a chorus/prodcution. And then followed by one of the best hip hop songs of all time. Every great rap song needs a piano and chorus like this one. This one I do get the Andre 3k Hype. Bass line is so sick too. What a song. Snappin and trapping is fine. Beat is definitely really cool but it doesn’t work with the flows very well. Back on track with spaghetti junction. Great bars and great production. Love the horns. I like hearing all these beats that are still be used on new songs today. So many Drake and migos beats on this album. I’ll call is really fun. Not the best but a fun song. BOB is by far the best lyrically. Production is awesome too. Great song. Really cool beta on explosion but the sounds are off. Vocals too low. Beat on we love these hoez is so sick again. Great lyrics on this one too. Another sick beat on humble mumble. And again I get the 3k hype on this one. Love the production on ?. What’s funny abt this album tho is that I’m generally a massive fan of skits and interludes but these just aren’t really doing it for me. My lord what a beat on red velvet. This song is so good. Might be the best on the album. Can’t believe this one didn’t have the commercial success. Gangsta shit is another really good song. Again the production is so good. Toilet Tisha is odd. The beat is really cool but not sure abt the lyrics. Slim beautiful is pretty cool. Not the best or the worst in the album. Good elements and bad elements. A little disappointed with stank love as the closer. The production is awesome but would’ve like something catchier/more forgettable from the lyrics and vocals. Overall, Extremly enjoyable listen. It’s not the goat rap album which I know some would say it is but it’s really really good. This won’t be the last time I listen to it. 4.2/5

Really cool funky tunes, i liked the interludes - they were a nice mix-in. The whole album comes together very well its a mixture of fresh music, laid back rap and fun beats. Its the kind of music you would listen whilst driving in a roofless car with your friends. My faves were So Fresh, So Clean and Stankonia.

southern hip hop, ms. jackson, great album

Tremendo

The best stuff on here (B.O.B., Humble Mumble, Ms. Jackson, etc) is unbeatable, but suffers a bit from the length.

Helllllll yes it’s funky it’s fun it’s got flow it’s got beats you’ve not heard before what else do you want? More of it 4.0/5.0 Best Song: So Fresh, So Clean

I love Outkast so much, Stankonia is a great example of what they are good at, kinda funny kinda mad hiphop. I think this is their 3rd best album? Maybe 4th? Best Track: We Luv Deez Hoez

Great stuff man

(4) Afro-futurism to the core…

Had fun, but I agree with Jelle

Goed, maar tis veel, tis echt zoveel.

I already listened to this album from my individual project! I dig outkast. Verrryyy good gym/running album. Ms jackson is a classic for a reason. Personally, and dont judge me, but ive been low key listening to I'll call b4 i cum since i heard it the first time. Sue me but the beat is a bop

I forgot how good this album was.

I think I've listened to this before? Very funky, fun album. 4/5.

HOLY FUCK WAS THIS SPRAWLING! It felt like the longest episode of Atlanta ever made. So surreal and real and equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious. This Andre 3000 guy might have a career ahead of him. The production is better and more varied than on previous projects and the skits are genuinely some of the most charming in the genre. I wanna start this one over again immediately, but I am realizing that I forgot to rate Alive Cooper yesterday, 🙄, so I will be doing that after this. Standout Tracks: Gasoline, B.O.B., Humble Mumble, ?, Slum Beautiful, Stankonia Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️

I liked the transitions between the songs and quite a few of the songs where pretty chill

This is my first Outkast album just FYI. This was funny, solid jazzy beats and lyricism made for an enjoyable time, even if its usually not my thing. It’s a massive 70+ minutes, and as solid as it is throughout, i wasn’t feeling all those minutes. Standouts are Gasoline Dreams, so fresh so clean, Ms. Jackson, Spaghetti Junction, B.O.B and Slum Beautiful.

classic. Their best album. but man I hate interludes. always just so wildly lame.

The transitions are soo fucking good. Fun Fact: Big Boi is performing in my city tonight I've always loved Ms. Jackson, but never listened to the album in full, and I am glad that I did. Such a timeless album.

No. 195 Overall great album. Fun, funny, funky. A number of classics here.

The music is quite good, but there's waaaay to many interludes.

There's a 5/5 album in here, and kudos to those who've found it. There's some really great stuff on here, must-listens. But there's a good bit of bloat that I can't seem to get through unscatched.

Reminds me of school I remember hearing Ms Jackson in high school, before viral was a thing, and it spread like wildfire, everywhere you went kids were singing the hook. I was only listening to punk and the time but it even turned my head and is probably the first hip hop song I remember loving. The album stands up today and one of the best Hip Hop records ever made. So many classic singles and only a little filler. Favourite track: B.O.B

It is mastered very, VERY well. Honestly it was incredibly surprising to me, and although I'm not a big hip hop fan it made it into an enjoyable listen.

groovy, funky

Having grown up at a time that meant my experience was limited to Speakerboxx/The Love Below, Outkast have never been an artist I want to shit on, but not one I ever really felt like I 'got', either. That changes as of this album - the variety in styles across this album is amazing and it feels like a concept album. Great bloody stuff!

Not my go-to genre but a fun listen.

Really enjoyed this, but let down by some unnecessary skits (why do so many late 90s/early 00s rap records have these stupid skits?) and it's about 20mins too long but still loved it

Nice but most songs not my cup of tea

I will say, as someone that really doesn't seek out rap music (but should, I've been wanting to listen to more black artists and rap specifically) this was a pretty great album as a first timer. Very bleepy bloopy synth heavy, yet never skimping on great funky beats, and with some fantastic bars/hooks that will stay in my head for some time. Even the skits in the album were really funny! Shoutout to Kim and Cookie I think that one was my favorite, her line delivery of "and I was like, FUCK" is going to stick in my brain forever. Highlights: So Fresh So Clean (i loved this as an opener so much), Ms Jackson (ofc), Spaghetti Junction, B.O.B, Slum Beautiful. The only songs that didn't really work for me were We Love Dem Hoez and Stanklove, but that's more I felt they went on a little too long and their hooks weren't as good as some others. Not awful by any means but, just not for me.

funky fresh

Stanky indeed. The 75 minutes flies by with the aid of funky beats, fun skits and a great variety. Not normally a rap person but I really enjoyed this!

It’s getting its grove backkk Okey I’m getting distracted letzten 4 Songs Yuh uhm ich checke. 8/10

Now this is what I'm talking about. Despite having 24 tracks on it, Andre 3000 and Big Boi make every single second on here count, delivering impressive rap after impressive rap. Listening to Stankonia, it's easy to realize why it was such a devastation when the two stopped working together, as this really is light years ahead of everything else that was going on in hip hop at the time.

Some absolute bangers outside of the well known tracks. Interludes are unnecessary and don't really add much, and cause the album to be longer without any purpose

braaaabo

Stankonia was a good listen I enjoyed the wide variety of musical genres and how it blended together to make a cohesive listening experience. I was dancing crying and all the emotions and expression in between and I get the hype behind OutKast after listening. I’m feeling a strong 4-4 1/2

Highly regarded album and rightly so. This is not just a hip-hop rap album. There are eclectic songs with melodies on here.

So fresh, so clean

Way better than I expected it to be

Great project by one of the best hiphop duos to ever do it.

So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson Spaghetti Junction I'll Call B4 I Cum B.O.B.

Oooh this is a hard one to rank. BOB and Ms Jackson go so hard, but the rest of the album doesn’t live up to the bar these two set. Hot take but I think Speakerboxxx/TLB is a better album. I think I’ll give it a 4 anyways.

My son's mom and I drove from Memphis to Albuquerque listening to "Sorry Miss Jackson" on repeat. I still find it a rich and complex story. And Outkast's beats were always moving!

As OutKast as OutKast gets

Best Song: Gasoline Dreams. I love how this song kicks the door down and just busts into the room. Andre 3000 is on another level on this track, lyrically and vocally, with one of my favourite hooks in all of hip-hop. Worst Song: We Luv Deez Hoez. Weakest feature on the album, especially the "ha ha ha" chorus. Overall: Outkast albums are always just stuffed so full with great tracks, it really feels impossible to compare it to modern albums that seem to throw all their weight behind just one or two tracks. Less pop-focused than Speakerboxxx, and more groovy, southern-sounding hip-hop. Probably a few too many interludes, and a couple weak tracks, but it's still great overall.

Psychedelia meets the dirty south! This was so different than anything coming out at the time in hip-hop. Despite the colorful language it is socially conscious and anti-misogynistic. The samples and beats range wildly from funk and gospel to rock to rave style and Big Boi and Andre change up thier rap styles to fit the flow of each seamlessly. My only critique would be that it is long and I hate the interludes/skits. Still, it is a great album and a great break through for Southern Hip Hop.

What a great album to get right after that shit that was "The Shaman". Man I forgot how good Stankonia was. I think that is mostly because anymore you just hear the hit singles, Bombs Over Baghdad, Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean. The only thing that is taking this from a 5 to a 4 is the interludes were not as good as I remember and were getting a bit on my nerves. Other than that great album.

Incredible. Hornier than I remembered. but Outkast at their biggest and best

The OutKast album is really good, objectively, but it’s really not my style. There’s an excess of attention of detail to this music - unlike a lot of rap music, there is lots of variety within each song. A lot of the somgs are catchy to a certain degree. Of course, Ms. Jackson is a classic. I think I’d have to listen to this again to fully appreciate it, but it’s still a 7/10 for me because of how detailed and meticulous it is, while not feeling annoyingly detailed.

🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑, maybe even 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗 from a more objective standpoint This album is such a blast—one of those sort of sonic variety feasts like People's Instinctive Travels, Paul's Boutique, or Midnite Vultures. Some real emotional breadth (and depth) too. Very funny, very sad, very sad and funny. My lack of a fifth star is only because—besides "So Fresh, So Clean" and "Mrs. Jackson," because I'm basic—very few songs, like, magically clicked/stood out from the symphony for me, even though they all had their own character. Maybe this was a mood thing, so the score may improve on another listen. 1: Bad | 2: Okay, No Desire to Revisit | 3: Good, Conditionally (OR Inconsistent Mix of Qualities | 4: Great (OR Technically amazing but missing the sauce emotionally) | 5: Amazing

Awesome!!!!!!!!!

Some straight up classics in this one, but also some unique and funky tracks that I heard for the first time! A good time!

Un clásico del hiphop

Definitely some filler here, but overall a great album! Had a lot of fun listening to this.

On the first listen, too much to absorb all at once. Best to let it wash over you and hope for the best via osmosis. Hard to overstate how it changed the genre and "pop" music at the time as well. It's got it's points where it drags, though. I'd give an extra half a star if it was about 10, maaaaybe 15 minutes shorter.

Banger🔥

Full of great songs, humour, seriousness, pretty much everything going for this album. Ms. Jackson was my fav song of the album. B.O.B - Bombs Over Baghdad (my fav first listen) and We Luv Deez Hoez were my other highlights

We're bouncing.

Really great album and what a great starting point for the 2000s decade Not my personal favourite outkast album but it's a classic 8.89/10

The intro is futuristic which was so cool. Gasoline Dreams was a great start to the album before moving into the classics that I knew off this album. Fresh and Clean has been in my rotation for years ever since I heard it off 2k. B.O.B (Bombs over Baghdad) through Humble Mumble was my favorite section of the album for me. The last bit of the album just isn't as much my style aside from Red Velvet. If the last part of the album had the same energy as the first I would give it 5 stars.

very very good, really nostalgic and reminds me of band

historia

site deleted my whole long ass review so :((((( love outkast, love the early stuff more, this is a little too long and somehow at the same time not quite as full as their last two but it still rocks!! best rappers of all time, insane that this is their 3rd best album

Aquemini? Zeker, Supercalfiidfiaiid, ook absoluut. Speakerboxx / The Love Below? AS. FUCK. Ja, dit is een heerlijk hiphop album. Terechte klassieker. FAVO: So fresh So Clean, Ms Jackson, B.o.B., We luv deez hoes, Mumble Bumble

The interludes add lore to each of the songs. Gives the album a consistent homogenous theme.

88/100. A bold, genre blending project that solidified Outkast’s legacy. The highs are iconic, some of the most recognizable tracks in hip-hop. While there’s a bit of unevenness across the track list, the album maintains a consistently high quality. Despite a few dips, the standout songs are so strong they more than carry the weight.

slayed!! combines different vibes and it’s also one of the long albums; i loved it

Great. Not as good as ATliens or Aquemini, but excellent.

4/5, a bit of a mixed bag. Some meh and unimpressive pieces, but the good songs are *really* good. If you enjoy prog rap, I think this is right up your alley. "So Fresh, So Clean," and "Ms. Jackson" are the two songs I'm most familiar with, and they're great — but my favorites were "Gasoline Dreams," "B.O.B.," and "Humble Mumble." These songs are special. The first two have this sick aggressive beat and delivery to them. An industrial guitar riff gives a strong, memorable structure for "Gasoline Dreams." And the lyricism is fantastic in all three. The breakdown for "Humble Mumble" is awesome in both lyricism and delivery. Outkast is genius at times, and these songs showcase that genius. Funnily enough, the least enjoyable pieces of this album are the interludes. I generally enjoy these, but for better or worse I found myself annoyed by their inclusion, just wanting to get back to the music.

8/10 - some incredible songs on here which will go down in history as some of the best hip hop songs of all time i.e. BOB and Ms Jackson. But it also suffers from too many strange interludes as was the fashion of the time when it was released

Aquemini is not on the book ??? Wtf ?? Ms. Jackson is one of the best rap song all time. No its one of the best song of all time period. Really liked this one. Great lyrically and the beats are just as good. Its inconsistent so its not a 5. Would recommend if you like rap.

I'm familiar enough with the hits from this, and am looking forward to listening to the entire album. This is quite good.

262/1089 somehow never considered that Ms. Jackson was OutKast… but when it started playing it made so much sense a lot of this one sort of blended together, it’s not as strong as Speakerboxxx/The Love Below imo faves: Ms. Jackson, B.O.B. and Slum Beautiful 72/100

Such fun lyricism and performance that seems to be somewhat lost within modern rap. Really versatile flows that swap constantly in what seems to be an effortless fashion; somewhat second nature to them. Such phenomenal fresh production that is crystal clear 26 years later and wraps your head up in their unique sounds in a way that feels like surround sound even on macbook speakers.

Faves: Gasoline dreams So fresh so clean Ms Jackson BOB We luv deez hoez Humble mumble Slum beautiful

Is cool.

Erykah Badu Feature?! Nice

pretty amazing album that's just a little too bloated Will I listen to again: 100%

Sorry Mrs. Jackson, not quite 5 ⭐️

This was a fun listen. Spaghetti Junction, Humble Mumble, Red Velvet, Xplosion, Stankonia are all bangers that I hadn't heard before.

Saw someone say this was like a knock off 36 chambers and wanted to kms

Great album by a legendary group. Back half of the album slopes off for me. Not their greatest work but still an amazing album with plenty of repeatability

Has some great songs. "B.O.B." is just an amazing example of how great the duo can be. The skits are a bit cumbersome, and there are a few misses on the album, but overall its pretty good. 3.5/5 Will listen again

fire 😼

Funky hip hop. More good than bad - just about. Good pace throughout. Liked a fair few tracks including So Fresh So Clean and the frenetic Bombs Over Baghdad. And even more experimental like Toilet Tisha had a certain appeal. Generous 4. A bit more quality over quantity would help.

Given how much I ended up getting into their Speakerbox/Love Below and then ATL/Aqu was feeling.a little let down by this one. Maybe for me the different directions they were heading in away from more their earlier (somewhat) more traditional hiphop would work better in the 2x solo album format. Struggling to hit a 4 but that was my Speakerbox rating which ultimately ended up being very much a round-down so evening out by rounding up here..

prety goo

Listened to this album the other day before it came up on the list. Solid 4-star album. Favorite track: B.O.B. Favorite skit: Kim & Cookie.

Awesome album. Possibly too long, but you get a real mix of flavours throughout. Some tracks had a great funk and rhythm, others delivered hard flows. I felt great listening to this and will definitely be revisiting some of my favourite tracks. Favourites: Ms. Jackson Snappin' & Trappin' B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)

Couldn’t OutKast have like six classic albums instead of three (that I can think of)? Why is it so long???? It’s good, but not (what felt like) two hours good.

Also listened to half of it, great music, great vibes. You feel like the coolest person on earth walking arpind while listening to this.

Is great is OUTKAST so Obviousleeeeee

Good! Chill hip hop/rap nice while I was painting. Cool and easy

Southern hip hop, experimental funk Gasoline dreams Ms. Jackson B O B

It's a great album no doubt, but there's too many skits and overall it doesn't consistently reach the peaks required for a 5 in my book. I don't care how good it is, 73 minutes is a LOT for one album. I have similar feelings to this as S/TLB but would probably give this the edge overall.

I never disliked Outkast, but I didnt expect to actually really like this album. Sold. Please enter my collection.

Never listened to Stankonia before this outside of Miss Jackson - pretty good. I can hear where modern ATL rap gets its' inspiration. Easy 4.

Rating: 9/10 Amazing, way too many skits and some weaker tracks prevent this from being a 5-star album.

They didn't have to give us 24 songs on one album, but they did. So many classic bangers.

Many bangers.

ATLiens represent. What an album. How can you not love Outkast.

Hip hop has never been my first choice, but here you have to admit it really slaps. 7/10

Some really great tracks in here, although a little long + unnecessary skits.

I’ll give it a 4 star but this album is definitely not their best. Lots of fillers. I think if you could trim this down to maybe 10 or 12 songs it would be a classic!

Somewhere between 3 and 4. Like most albums the whole is not as good as some of the parts. I will round up this time.

This one's a little long, and not everything works well for me, but I was pretty impressed overall. There's some really great tracks here. "B.O.B." was the song that really sold me on this album.

FUCK YEAHHHH! that was great, I'd never heard this one before, absolutely what I needed on a Thursday morning. Surprised they done have Aquemini on this, I definetely prefer it but this was still really enjoyable.

Great beats, great flows, great album. Knocked down 1 point because it is too long, and has too much filler.

Crazy! I've only ever known radio OutKast, but this goes hard! Fits right in there with Dre and Snoop and the like, didn't think of them like that at all. Hard to say no to Ms. Jackson, but then was gonna go with So fresh so clean, then miss badu came out! Forgot about that banger, 100% the pick. A few other fantastic songs tho, really enjoyed Slum Beautiful and Stankonia. 4.25/5.

I love this album and it has a bunch of excellent songs. I only rate an album five stars if it is flawless with no skips. This is almost there, but not quite. I wish I could give 4.5.

Favorite tracks: So Fresh So Clean, Ms. Jackson, I'll Call Before I Come, B.O.B., Gangsta Shit OutKast have been unstoppable since the mid 90s, simple as. The duo of Andre 3000 and Big Boi deliver some of their hottest bars and most invigorated performances here, and the beats similarly do not disappoint.

Sehr geils album! Aber chli lang, find paar songs hett mer striiche chönne

Its a classic.

If there is one thing I have learned over the course of this project, it’s that the Brit’s putting the book together are actually dead on at picking a lot of these Gangsta Rap albums. Not only was I not expecting OutKast to have 2 albums on here, but I wasn’t expecting this one to also be so heavy on the P Funk. Last time I heard P Funk was with Funkadelic, and I gave that a 5 star rating. When you mix the 2 genres together here, you end up with a very uneven, but still pretty goated album. It’s uneven because over the course of its 1 hour and 13 minute runtime, I kind of got the point about 30 minutes in. They blow their load early with “Gasoline Dreams”, “So Fresh, So Clean” and the all time classic that most people probably recognize, “Ms. Jackson”. You then have to wait all the way until the middle of the album to hit my favorite song on the album, “B.O.B. - Bombs Over Baghdad”, which has just an insanely good hook to it and a good rhythm that makes you want to dance. This album has, not including the skits or the intro, about 16/24 songs. I only really love the hits, you can take or leave the rest. Notably, they’re still really good, but the hits actually do blow me away for once with how good they are. I’m generally a bit of an outlier when it comes to picking my favorite songs on these albums, but yeah, the hits are the best here. This is my first of 2 OutKast albums I have rolled for this project, and after consistently hearing some great Hip Hop over the course of my journey, gotta say that I’m super excited to roll the second album from these guys as well. I didn’t love every song on the album, I end up skipping quite a few actually, but as a whole, and considering how good the hits are, I’m going to give this one a low 4, probably somewhere around a 4.2. It’s great, if not a little flawed, and when it’s good, it’s very good. The flows these guys both put out when on top of their game are some of the best I’ve heard so far, but they don’t land as often as I’d like them to. Good stuff as always. Carry on.

I really enjoyed this!!

Outkast like these guys. I would like to come. Why is someone moaning though. Ig that is pretty funky. I like this I was just in a bad mood earlier. This is aura. It's very cool. I would play this to impress a girl. Oh this Ms. Jackson is weird. There are a lot of interludes which are not my favourite but it's chill. Meet me at the spaghetti junction bruh. Oh you don't have to call it's ok. I really liked this it's very vibey. Favourite: So Fresh, So Clean Least favourite: Snappin' & Trappin'

W raps 7.5/10

Bangers after bangers

Some classics, some mid.

Fine fkn art right there boys.

There are the obvious hits but there are some really good lesser known tracks on here. I always loved the synth on Red Velvet, which provides some nice variety to the tone of the album. I have never been a fan of the skits in between tracks, which does spoil the flow somewhat.

Better quality overall than speakerboxx/love below. This album in particular showcases the unique flows and cadences that they bring compared to a lot of comparable east/west coast rap - I’m particularly interested in how the musical influences in and around Atlanta would have evolved their sound differently. I’ve heard them (particularly Andre 3000) compared to a modern day Prince and can see that coming through here, with blues, funk, jazz, soul influences all melded together somewhat in the beats and music similar to how ‘sign o the times’ also did. Singles also hold up really well.

Hip Hop isn't particularly in my genre wheelhouse, but I respect the art form. This was an interesting and very entertaining listen. I really liked the use of the "breaks' throughout. Do wish we got Hey Ya, but beggars/choosers and all that... ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The last true Outkast album (the others are a soundtrack and 2 solo albums stapled together) is appropriately the sound of two guys growing in different directions. Andre is digging deeper into funk and jazz influences and getting political while Big Boi is talking about how bitches just want your money. That's extremely reductive of course, but there's enough of that on Stankonia to keep it from feeling timeless. There's no doubting it's influence to both jazz rap and the southern rap renaissance that Outkast helped create, but the skits and some of the lyrics keep it a little too stuck in the late 90's. These guys as a fully collaborative duo were a shooting star that moved hip-hop forward in large strides, but their paths always seemed destined to diverge.

Classic. High peaks in Ms. Jackson and So Fresh So Clean but some skips too

The Interludes mad me LOL. This album is awesome. These guys would be a great hang. Funky with a mix of lyrical singing and rap.

For me, OutKast can be a bit hit-and-miss at times. This album felt a little bit too inconsistent for me to call it great, but that isn't to say it isn't good. Pulling in some of the premium talent of the early noughties, this is a solid collection of tracks that showcases what the duo are capable of, so I think I'm going to give it a four out of five.

++: So Fresh, So Clean, Ms. Jackson, D.F., Spaghetti Junction, I'll Call Before I Come, B.O.B., Humble Mumble, Drinkin' Again, ?, Toilet Tisha, Pre-Nump +: Intro, Gasoline Dreams, Snappin' & Trappin', Xplosion, We Luv Deez Hoez, Red Velvet, Gangsta Shit, Slum Beautiful, Stankonia (Stanklove) +-: I'm Cool, Good Hair, Cruisin' in the ATL -: Kim & Cookie 7,9/10

Eclectic like a mix of gangsta and conscious hip hop to psychedelic rock. The rhymes flow like quickly-melting butter. The album kinda gave me whiplash cause it's all over the place.

Its okay and surprise me at the first selection album.

Power music, electric revival!!!

I really really want to give this album 5 stars. And I would if we removed many of the repetitive hooks. I get a couple times in-between verses or a couple times to close this out. But some of the hooks are more than half the song. Even if the beat and melody took some variation in these it'd be fine. As is I get bored.

Flowing and vibing. Sonoridades diversificadas, bom espírito e boa vibe.

Great rapping, even better production. Doesn't get a 5 because out of the 18 or so songs in there, I enjoyed about 12/13. Favourite was Bombs Over Baghdad. High 4

High 3/low 4? I enjoyed speakerboxxx considerably more but this is still a fun record

Much too much filler but the bangers slap heavy

Gangsta shit and bombs over bagdad

felt as if i watched a stage play (in a good way)

Second best album of theirs.

Very nice

This is their mountaintop album as far as I'm concerned. You could definitely trim the fat in a couple of places, but for the most part it's solid all the way through with some really high highs. 'B.O.B.' remains untouchable, and I'm still blown away every time I hear how Andre 3000 is able to rap over the beat on '?'

Pretty great album. I lost some momentum near the very end but for the most apart I like the varried beats and flow. Andre 3000's voice is captivating to me. Some catchy unforgettable songs, and most of the new ones to me were similarly entertaining

Good album, I don´t think it´s overated as some reviews are pointing out. The last track that carries the album name it was ok, could be better, but I don´t think it trashes the whole thing. And besides that, in my honest musical view, anyone that is shitting this album don´t know nothing about music, it is GREAT. Progressive, experimental and fun to listen. Some lyrics are problematical? Yes. But the 2000´s were as well, like the 90´s, 80´s and 70´s. 4/5

Loved this album. It’s their breakthrough into the mainstream. Ms Jackson is a classic song and really set the album off.

très bien mais album trop long

Good fun album. Starts excellently and maybe fades a little. Still, the standout songs mean it deserves 4* overall

Impressive

Really fun album

What a record. So many memorable and timeless hits that Outkast gave to us through this release. Their imaginative and innovative production style forever changed and cemented their place in hip hop and further brought southern hip hop onto the map. The chemistry these two display is uncanny and their styles are so different, but it all works in harmonious fashion. I loved this record when it was first released and that still rings true today.

Fun as shit ngl 7.7/10 ?
