75% goeie tunes op dit album
theres some real bangers on here but idrk why its so long. if it was trimmed a bit i prob would give it a 5 but still a valuable album in my collection
This album holds a special place in my heart. I love old Outkast. Southernplayalistic, ATLiens, Aquemini, but then this album started the transition to the newer sound that produced Speakerboxxx/Love Below. Their style is unique and immediately recognizable. They put southern hip hop on the map. Both of them are incredible in their musical skills.
Never been a fan of southern hip-hop. Yet, have to admit that So fresh so clean, Ms jackson, B.o.B. are absolute timeless bangers. 4 out of 5
I haven’t listened to Stankonia front to back since probably 2002, so I’m excited to revisit it. T1 – Big Boi comes out swinging immediately. That opening energy is pure confidence. T4 – “So Fresh, So Clean” – “Gator belts and patty melts and Monte Carlos” remains one of those lines that’s rhythmically addictive. T5 – “Ms. Jackson” – The defining track of the album and arguably the era. It’s pop-forward without sacrificing personality, vulnerability, or weirdness. 1.5 billion streams later and “Forever, forever ever?” is still lodged in the cultural brainstem. T6 – Killer Mike shows up and immediately makes his presence felt, commanding, hungry, no wasted bars. The beat feels like a direct feed from the inside of André’s head: jittery, layered, and slightly unhinged in the best way. T11 – “B.O.B.” – I vividly remember hearing this on local alt-rock radio and genuinely thinking it was a completely different band than the group behind “Ms. Jackson.” The tempo, the aggression, the punk-energy chaos—it was hip-hop crossing genre boundaries at full sprint. The push-and-pull between Big Boi and André 3000 is what makes Stankonia timeless. Big Boi’s disciplined pocket control and syllabic syncopation ground the record, while André’s eccentric wizardry and technical velocity stretch it into something unpredictable. That contrast and chemistry still feels contemporary.
fun! already knew a couple, ms jackson of course. really enjoyed listening to the full album, unsure if i'll listen again though
funky. Never listened to this album in full! enjoyed the storytelling and blend of each song!
So many bops!! Great album overall
I like
ну вроде норм негры навалили, послушаю потом еще
This had energy and was really interesting. Good vocals and good sounds. Happy this holds up.
Stone cold classic. Combines Andre's funky rapping with Big Boi's smooth and consistent flow. Full with all-time classics and hidden gems. 8/10
honestly good rap solid 8/10
Extremely solid album. If it weren’t for all the skits and interludes, this would be a 5
real. all over. funky. chill. vibes.
Hit or miss. I realize that I am more of an Andre 3000 fan than big boi
Cool to see some popular songs I know in a complete album. I’ve heard a lot of these songs individually but hearing the whole story was a different experience!
So fresh so clean
Other than the interludes and little ditty/dialogues, this is a surprisingly great album. I mean, great. Deserved respect. Slum beautiful stands out so late in the tracks. Amazing! 4 solid deserved stars. Well done.
I think overall this album is awesome. It perfectly encapsulates the entire aesthetic and lifestyle it's portraying. I think sometimes the flow can get cramped, but overall the songs actually connect and sometimes make a story throughout.
Great album
Yes
i love big boi and i cannot lie
Lowkey peak🔥
7/10
Brilliant hip hop!
Solid
Maybe not the thing I felt like listening to today but really good much better than that. Terrible double album.
Classic rap
loved so many songs in this album. one of their best works for sure
per niente noioso come altri old school!
One of OutKasts best albums. Lots to love about this album but for me there is a certain something missing that keeps it from being a 5 star.
I see a lot of reviews complaining of the skits on this record. Outkast was hardly the first hip hop act to include skits (remember 'Doggystyle'?)... whether you like those are not, the music is what stands out to me. Do I relate to anything A3K and BB are rapping about? Nope. Do I appreciate the artistry? %100. This record is fantastic... cooler than a polar bear's toenails.
Awesome
4.5 This was a fun album. I enjoyed a lot of the songs.
I love it when Hip Hop gets uber creative and this is really a master class in that.
I was very excited to listen to this album today. It came out during a time when my kids were young, so "explicit content" wasn't really allowed in my life. And then I just never got around to listening to it after that period of my life. At first I was a bit uncertain as I really enjoyed the music, but I expected the lyrics to be more subtle and not as "in your face" as much hip hop is and was. As I delved further I realized they actually were, and there was more gray to this than the typical misogyny and violence of rap music from that time. Standout songs for me were the obvious ones of course-So Fresh, So Clean and Ms. Jackson-but also ones I hadn't heard before like I'll Call B4 I Cum (ok maybe not subtle but also not ridiculously over the top), We Luv Deez Hoez (again not subtle but not exactly what one would expect from that song title), Red Velvet, Toilet Tisha (WOW), and the sexiness of Stankonia. I don't think this is quite a five star record for me, but I understand why it is for so many people.
Ok so I really liked it it is American hip hop very classic but it makes you dance. The sounds are avanguardial and very cool. The very famous Mrs. Jackson was amazing but also others like so fresh so clean were amazing.
I’m not really big on rap or hip-hop, but I still enjoyed this album. The songs have strong social commentary and storytelling, mixed with funky and upbeat sounds. It’s fun and easy to listen to. The tracklist feels long, but the interludes help make it feel lighter and entertaining. Overall, it’s a good and enjoyable album.
A classic. Keeping it from a 5 bc of length and there were a few songs I wanted to skip. Didn't look at the tracklist beforehand so when it transitioned from So Fresh So Clean into Ms. Jackson I was like oooooooof
Great album that brought us some gems including one of my favorite rap songs B.O.B. It is a bit long which has me contemplating between 3 or 4 stars but even between the big yams there’s quality stuff like Humble Mumble, 4 stars!
A certified classic album of both radio-friendly hits ("Ms. Jackson", "So Fresh So Clean", maaaaaybe "BOB", i don't remember if it was a hit but feels like it was) and tracks that just flat out go hard ("Gasoline Dreams", "Humble Mumble", "Snappin and Trappin", etc). Outkast was so dope: original, unique, complementary of each other's talents, and mixing humor and lightness with straight bars. I always think its funny that people treat it like a given that Andre is the better MC, I'm not positive about that myself..... It makes me sad to listen to such a great album in 2026 knowing that Andre 3000 is fucking around on a flute, sounding like a 7th grader who just discovered free jazz. Man, the future sucks
Would be a 5 if not for the annoying skits
Gasoline Dreams Ms. Jackson We Love Deez Hoez
Very fun
favorite track: spaghetti junction
The hits are hits and so are a lot of the other songs - short interludes but the album itself is pretty long - somewhere between a 3 and 4 but I’ll round up
I had always had a bee in my bonnet about this album after Pitchfork rated B.O.B the best song of the 2000's (I used to care about those things). I didn't like that song then, and I don't particularly now, but the rest of the album is pretty great, and Ms. Jackson is a classic.
Fun album They know exactly who they are 25 years old and sounds like could of been made yesterday
Love this album, peak 90s-2000s music, iconic staple to hip hop
I’ve heard a couple songs from this album before. All super catchy songs I give this album a 8/10
Love how different every song is, and has great features on it. Adding Killer Mike to any album is a plus. Some people complain about the interludes, but thought it broke up the album nicely. 4/5
This has ‘Bombs Over Baghdad’ so the floor is set at a 4/5. Really really strong album. Immaculate beats, great features (Khujo and Killer Mike really stood out), just about as much fun as you can have with a rap album. It doesn’t quite get up to a perfect 5 level due to too many interludes/skits and a couple dud songs, but this is a powerful 4/5 easily.
Great jams and familiar hits, not sure what the interludes add
So good I lovee
This is my first OutKast album and I wasn’t really sure I’d like it bc I’m not huge into hip hop. All I’ve listened to by them before this was Hey Ya! But I really really liked it. The album was so sonically interesting and also had some great rap verses and lyrics. I really liked Gasoline Dreams which I feel like Kendrick Lamar reminds me a lot of. Overall a great album
This was a very fun album, including hits like Ms. Jackson and So Fresh, So Clean. There were a few "bit" tracks that weren't the best but overall super solid.
This album has a huge number of tracks with a lot of humor. The talking is a little dated and not my brand of humor (black ghetto humor) but the music is mostly excellent.
classic, love this one
The interludes are a bit of a drag and I think they were slightly sharper on Aquemini, but at it’s best, some of the most fun hip-hop you’ll hear.
Very very strong first half. Definitely falls off a bit after bob but still a super fun and great album. Rapping on this is excellent. 8/10
My favorite hip hop album of this project so far.
Lots of bangers I didn’t know about
4.4/5 first couple tracks does not get better
On one hand Stankonia is a big what if. There's an amazing ten or twelve track album in here if you strip away not just all the skits - which are rarely funny or even interesting - as well as longer failed experiments like "Toilet Tisha" and "Stanklove." On the other hand, the remaining tracks are so good that they make up for it. There's a great mix of classic rapping hip hop like "So Fresh, So Clean" and "We Luv Deez Hoes" and weirder stuff. "B.O.B" rightfully gets a lot of attention, but "Gasoline Dreams" and "Humble Mumble" also mix in rock elements in a fresh and exhilarating way. While it's not as good as Aquemini, this album still finds the duo pushing their sound forward and displaying their talents in a variety of ways, and I'd rank it as their second best. Just be ready to have your finger on the skip button. Break!
I love this album.
I was a mixed bag about this album before, I'm glad I went back to it. This is a very great representation of the sound of some old school rap music, and there are some amazing and rewarding highs in this too. I feel some tracks for short to the quality standard, like "I'll Call B4 I Cum", I just think it was a bit one dimensional and didn't add much to the track list. Hits like B.O.B., Ms. Jackson, and So Fresh, So Clean just make this record timeless and essential. I think this deserves a spot on the list but its not the best rap record ever and I do think OutKast have better records.
Well, I like it and there are some bangers on her but my god it could have done with a good editor and losing the skits which add nothing. Yet another unnecessarily long hip-hop album. The egos on these people. Still, it’s a 3.5 rounding up because it’s better than a 3
HELLLL YEAHHHHHH
Intro - 7/10 Gasoline dreams - 10/10 So fresh, So clean - 7/10 Ms Jackson - 8/10 Snappin & trippin - 8/10 Spaghetti junction - 6/10 I’ll call B4 I cum - 9/10 B.O.B - 9/10 Xplosion - 9/10 We love deez hoez - 9/10 Humble mumble - 10/10 ? - 7/10 Red velvet - 8.5 / 10 Gangsta shit - 8/10 Toilet tisha - 6/10 Slum beautiful - 6/10 Stankonia - 7/10 Average - 7.9/ 10
Not my usual thing, but this is a great album. It'd be even better if it were 30 minutes shorter. B.O.B. is the highlight.
classic with ms jackson and so fresh, so clean. reminded me how much hiphop can be musical poetry - esp from the 2000s.
Fire.
LOVE IT
Always great. Top Track: Humble Mumble
Sorry miss jackson...less interludes! But legit, when they are on...they are ON...when they are not, meh. But Miss Jackson + BOB = 4/5.
I love OutKast but this one isn’t my favorite — still great tho
pretty good but lost my attention after a while
Man, I used to love this album. And you know what, I still really do. I guess over time I have started to prefer other Outkast projects over this one. It still undeniably has some of their absolute best songs on it, but the album as a whole experience is just a tad messy, as much as the skits and interludes are a lot of fun, I think that there are maybe just a few too many that make the album feel a bit less coherent than it could have done.
12.15.25 Total listens: 0.5 1st listen notes: "Ms. Jackson" is a stand out track; few days behind & didn't listen to full album
5/1089 I didn't think I make it through this before listening. I've always loved Ms. Jackson but thought outkast stopped there ..and hey ya. I really enjoyed this album and there were nice surprise beats, fills and samples throughout. I'll listen to it again and I understand why Andrew 3000 isn't overrated.
i’ve listened before. stand outs are : BOB, fresh and clean, snappin and tappin , humble mumble it’s a really good rap album i don’t think it’s their best but def second 8/10
Lots of very iconic tracks in here very good. Don’t listen to a lot of rap but this was really good to me
Still don't like the skits, but damn do the tracks slap.
Really enjoyed a lot of the music, not into aaaall the interludes. Couple of absolute bangers
It’s innovative, it’s catchy through most of the album, there are three generational hits, but it’s also just a bit too long for me. Probably in the range of a high three/low four, but I’ll round up because who am I to criticize OutKast?
I was pretty worried after "So Fresh, So Clean" and "Ms. Jackson" were over only 16 minutes into a 1h 13min album. I was afraid that the rest of the hour would be a slog, but I was wrong. This album just kept going. Even though I didn't know any other songs, I was still jamming the whole time. The album ending was a surprise to me. It went by so fast and I wanted more. One or two more radio hits and this would be an easy 5 stars. 9/10 if we were on that scale.
So many highlights on this album. Ms Jackson is a classic and still very funny. As is so fresh so clean with some of the sleaziest hooks since peak prince. Bombs over Baghdad is fast frenetic and fantastic. Just stops short of being a classic due to the have of quality control towards the end of the album plus the silly all too frequent skits.
dang good. hard to swallow at first with the intro. more vulgar than i'm use to listening to but the rawness makes it entertaining. faves: red velvet, xplosion, ms. jackson, BOB - absolute banger - jumping insanely in my bedroom
Some great tracks, a few too many skits for my taste
Great hiphop
Stanky. In a good way.
It's a good vibe, quite enjoyed it Interludes are always annoying though, and it goes on for ever.
This album is like a sixteen year old boy who goes to midnight mass with his family every week. After one service, one of the girls who also attends regularly asks the boy if he wants to join her and some friends for a movie night in the church hall. She is quite attractive, so the boy is keen. They make their way to the church hall afterwards but there is no movie watching going on here. There are already some older kids who have brought alcohol to share around. Some music is playing, which is far heavier on the bass than the boy is used to. He smells some sort of smoke in the air, but he can’t think what it is. The girl who invited him asks if he wants to dance. Sheepishly, he agrees so she drags him to the makeshift dance floor and throws down some moves that involve more hip-gyration than he has ever seen in his life. He feels wildly out of his depth, yet somehow also feels welcomed by the entire party.
Great tunes but too many interlude and a lil long.
Classic. Lots of bops
Ah the beloved OutKast - the shake it like a Polaroid picture guys. This album contributed to Americana with such classics as I’ll call B4 I cum, we luv deez hoes and toilet Tisha. Seriously, ms Jackson is a great song. This is well produced and catchy. I can see why they were huge.
Too long to rate it higher. Some of the songs just DIDN'T hit.
Outkast is simply one of the greatest hip hop groups of all time. This album is no exception as it shows off their full range. My only complaint is that it's entirely too long. I know I'm not a fan of skits, but that's true of any rap album. Even without the skits, I think there are a few songs that make this a bit long in the tooth. But, the songs that are good are just absolute bangers, I mean some of the best rap that you'll ever hear. There's the obvious radio hits like Miss Jackson and So Fresh So Clean but others like B.o.B and Xplosion and Gasoline Dreams go so hard. Cut the fluff and you've got a perfect album, as it is easily a four-star.
No stranger to this album, it has some absolute class tracks on it
Onhan tämä oikein mainio levy. En muistanutkaan että olen kuunnellut tätä albumia aikoinaan. En vaan jotenkin tähän bändiin yhdistänyt tuttuja biisejä. On legendalevy.
4.29/5 Stars Top Songs: Ms. Jackson, Xplosion and Humble Mumble
Few great tracks, with lots of unique aspects but it's overly long. 3.5/5. Raising to 4.
I could do without the skits, which I don’t think add much here, and maybe I’d leave a song or two off but most of it is great. They bring a lot of disparate influences together very well. Ms. Jackson is an all-time classic. Easily a contender for best hip hop album ever.
Incredibly fun listen but less refined than I expected, makes sense for an earlier album from them. Loaded with goofy skits, a cohesive yet raunchy theme, and some generational hits. I thought the back half deserves way more attention — Humble Mumble and Red Velvet are catchy and carry the same energy as the rest!
This is my fourth Hip Hop album on the list, and I'm someone who knows basically nothing about the genre. Although two of the other three have high ratings on this page (and I didn't give them bad ratings), I feel like Stankonia was the introduction I needed to Hip Hop. Ms. Jackson is amazing, no wonder it was such a huge success. As a side note, this morning I bought a different album and I also randomly picked up a free music magazine in the store. There was a whole section dedicated to this album, celebrating its 25th anniversary. I didn't know Stankonia or OutKast previously, so it was a nice coincidence.
Really great some absolute bangers
Good album
I liked B.O.B. a lot. Gangsta Shit was a lot of fun too. Solid stuff from OutKast, I think I liked this maybe slightly more than Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (though, like that, this was marginally too long).
Although this album contains some of my least favorite attributes of aughts hip-hop (skits, casual misogyny, excessive guest stars) it also features some of the most iconic hip-hop songs of our millenium. Stylistically it's all over the place... if Speakerboxx/The Love below is Outkast's White Album, this is Rubbersoul: an album pushing against the boundaries of genre.
I haven't listened to this in forever and it still holds up. Can be a bit lengthy
Mixed experience. I like the hits and the songs with pace, but the album is too long overall. 3.5 stars
This was wackadoo. Really put the stank on ya.
I liked it! More experimental than I thought it would be with its interludes and like musical ambiance
No momento em que a introdução acaba e Gasoline Dreams começa com aquelas guitarradas eu já fui fisgado. Que álbum divertido, que produção diversa, que carisma.
Iconic hip hop album. spawned some of outkasts most popular singles. disc 1 is hits back to back ad. disc 2 is alr as well
Great stuff
I wasn't sure about this album when I first heard it. I liked some bits, not others... So I listened again. And again. Then a few months went past. Then I listened a few more times. And now I do in fact quite like it. Was I tricked into liking this by my uncertainty??
Great lesson. Appreciate that they made the album over an hour long sounded good.
top top
I really didn't expect this to be as psyched down like an electronic as it turned out to be honestly it was pretty cool and I liked it better than the other outcast album
Amazing album but gotta be consistent - not an immediate relisten for me
Esse é bem legal. Ainda que eu não me envolva tanto com o gênero, é possível perceber que é um trabalho diverso, divertido e de certo refinamento.
Stankonia is undoubtedly one of the best hip hop albums ever made, but its age is showing. I have a soft spot for this album with it being one of the first hip hop albums I listened to, when it first came out. But it was hard to get through the whole thing. All the interludes and skits that were endemic to rap albums in the 90s are at their worst here, interrupting the flow and not providing anything of value and all around are mostly just embarrassing. It's a waste, and the album could be about 15 minutes shorter and be perfect. *BREAK* The songs themselves are some of the catchiest ever-- "Gasoline Dreams", "So Fresh, So Clean", "Ms. Jackson", "B.O.B.". They are P-Funk, Prince, Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine, Daft Punk, all filtered through a rave in the Deep South. Andre and Big Boi complement each other as one of, if not the best, rap duos ever. The bones of this album are masterful, fun and profound and unhinged. But there is so much extra fluff and fat that can be cut.
Exactly what you’d expect — wild, funky, and full of personality. “Ms. Jackson” and “B.O.B.” shine brightest, while the rest is a thumping circus of fun that occasionally wears me out, if I’m honest.
Totally stank.
Great album, interesting and varied beats
After falling behind on my generated albums I listened to this on a run - it was an interesting run. I didn’t hate it. Interesting beats, another quite long album but enjoyed the variation. The 1-2 of So Fresh, So Clean into Ms Jackson is pretty legendary.
Stankonia was a classic when it came out and remains so 25 years on….a quarter of a century since this album was released! So fresh and so clean is just that. As contemporary sounding as when it was released with its simple infectious hook. Ms Jackson is just a classic track which only a fool wouldn’t like. Yes a lot of the lyrics are fairly familiar and at times fairly route one (see I’ll call before i Cum) but Andre and Big Boi’s charm endure these dont grate like a lot of older rap music does. B.O.B showcases how brilliant both are in terms of fast paced delivery but maintains that inherent catchiness that runs throughout this album Would probably be 4.5/5 for me but mot quite a 5 so will have to settle for a 4
Another classic pull! And just 3 days after its 25th anniversary I was a huge fan of Outkast's earlier albums when I was in college so this one slipped past my radar beyond the smash hits (and there are many). I was glad to give this one the proper attention it deserves! Although it still does not top Superplayalistic or Aquemini in my book. What can I say that others haven't about Andre 3000 and Big Boi's synergy... My favorite things about Outkast are the production, the delivery, and their perfect balance of storytelling while also not taking themselves too seriously. But I still draw the line a bit on the crazy sex references, as was the time and fashion I suppose. Standout tracks (beyond the majors) are: Spaghetti Junction, Humble Mumble, and Toilet Tisha "They say a computer could do my job better than I could!?" all too relevant 25 years later
Wow! Never heard this all the way through before, the beats are amazing but what really stands out to me is the fucking hooks. BEST hook writing from a rapper/rap group ever like wow wow wow. I don’t love every track tbh so I’m feeling more 4.5 on this but maybe on another listen I’d give it a 5.
Thank goodness. Finally a good freaking album.
Classic
I think I have a new favorite hip hop album, this was an amazing listen. After Ms. Jackson I was moving and at Bombs Over Baghdad I was dancing on top of my desk at work. Probably too long but this was a blast.
For the most part I vibed with this one. It brought some much needed funk to my long drive.
A transcendental funk fantasia. It may hang around a little (very little) too long but damn is this a wildly ebullient ride. Bangers, experiments, interludes. It's all here and it all works.

Love albums with great hits but also songs that go to much deeper and weirder places than the hits.
Genre defining album, it definitely started the southern rap boom. This was huge in 11th grade for me, everyone was singing BOB and Ms Jackson
how can i say no to Outkast....
This was great. Big sucka for funk-story-album-with-meaningful-life-messages. Deep love for all the tracks I already heard, never listened to the album.
yup
Great flow and energy. 8/10
La colgaron estos dos. Discazo. Lástima la duración. Se hace largo llegando al final. Pero buenísimo. 8/10
More layered, creative, and ambitious than I remembered. This album is fantastic above and beyond its singles (which were rightly huge hits). Will be adding this back on to the rotation.
Iconic hip-hop album. I'm not a fan of this genre, but I really liked the artists’ naturalness and the influences of other styles, like funk and gospel. I must read the lyrics: obviously they sing too fast for me 😅
oh yeah
That was a fun listen
Mmmmmm love this one
A teeny overlong. Could cut out the skits and interludes without affecting the overall album. But some truly great tracks here. Ms. Jackson, So Fresh and so Clean, BOB, and Call Before I Come are all fantastic. Andre 3000 is such a talented and interesting musician
I don't think I'd ever listened to this whole record. It is clearly a classic. I'll be returning to a few of these tracks (beyond the obvious) for sure!
4/5. This album feels all over the place while still within the same theme and vibe. The experimentation is to the max with so many alternating genres and rapping styles. It truly feels like a combined effort, with great features and lyricality. Granted, there are some interesting lyrics. They have stepped past the threshold of referring women as accessories and now as objects that deserve respect. Still not great, feels like this kind of stuff should have been figured out around like 5 years old. There is some parody in it though, as they seem to be self aware of the misogyny present in the rap culture, inviting female artists in songs that clearly dehumanize them. It's played for laughs and satire but is a little dated so it doesn't always land. I think the overall quality of the album is pretty high tier though. I can't say it's perfect but it is still really good, for the time. Best Song: B.O.B., Ms. Jackson, Humble Mumble, I'll Call Before I Come
BOB is an absolute banger The other songs here are great too (Although I'm not a huge fan of all the interludes)
Hell yeah. I'd heard Ms. Jackson before but the second half of the album really surprised me. 'I'll Call B4 I Cum', 'We Luv Deez Hoez', and 'Humble Mumble' were all really fun. Great album by Outkast, excited for their other project.
This was good in my opinion Not gonna score it /10
I can smell what these guys are cookin’.
Surprisingly good. I didn't know OutKast were legit.
Great classic album
iconic! i love ms jackson
Nice hip hop
I like this album. It's too long (product of its era) and with too much filler, but the tracks that slay are undeniable.
7.5/10
Solid
There's only one song on this album I'd heard previously; Ms. Jackson; because it was bloody everywhere in 2000 when it came out. It was a time where Outkast were clearly transitioning from lock-standard hip hop to a sound more attractive and singalong-worthy [i.e. 'Hey Ya' and 'Roses', which came later], but the roots of that transition are here on 'Stankonia'. 'Stankonia' is standard for hip hop albums at the turn of the millenium: 1+ hour run times, replete skits/interludes, but what sets this album out is its clear homage to 70s funk in places [there's plenty of slap bass and soulful vocals from Andre 3000 and Big Boi to compliment their raps] and its fearlessness in tackling political and sociocultural issues ['B.O.B.', 'Gasoline Dreams']. The duo also responds to the perceived misogyny around the hip hop scene at the time by expressing sympathy and remorse for the female experience ['Ms Jackson', 'Slum Beautiful', 'Toilet Tisha']. I honestly couldn't really stand hip hop when I was a kid [save for a few songs], but as I've gotten older, I've started to appreciate how deep and effective some of the lyrics actually are. Outkast certainly weren't slouches in the lyrics department. 'Stankonia' is quite an intelligent and thoughtful record that effectively speaks to the life of African-Americans in the South [Outkast are from Georgia], and its effort in reintroducing funk to a turn-of-the-millennium crowd is rivalled only by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. There's profound intelligence behind saying sorry to Ms Jackson. Best songs: 'Ms Jackson', 'B.O.B.', 'I'll Call B4 I Cum'
Energetic, chaotic but controlled. Contrast in vocal styles is fantastic as always with OutKast. Eccentric, melodic bursts then sharp steady flows. Musically the album regularly changes lane but the beats are always tight and there are some sick synth sounds. Little bit more filler than Aquemini in my opinion but some MASSIVE hits. Favourite track - Ms Jackson, B.O.B, Red Velvet or Gangsta Sh*t. 8/10
Great album! Really inventive music with great grooves.
Really a 4.5 because I just don't like the track Humble Bumble. I liked the rest though. Cover is like a 2/5 though. Who approved this composition?!
Definitely in my top most listened to albums in high school. It was great to revisit. B.O.B is top tier. I’m probably more of a 4.5 on this one.
In many ways, Stankonia is the most OutKast of all OutKast albums and OutKast is great! There are some very high highs on this album and some all time classic songs. But I couldn't go all the way to five stars because while the album is surprisingly coherent, it is too long, the skits are mostly unnecessary, and the production comes off as a little self-indulgent in places. So much great stuff, and incredibly influential, worth a listen just for Bombs Over Bagdad alone! While the album is 4 stars, the cover is 2 stars for me, just not great composition and not very memorable.
Love OutKast, quite a bit of dross in the mix but still classic 👌🏼
Just thinking the other day this hasn't given me a rap album for a while, and here's one of the few I actually already own. Don’t know it just feels more musical than most rap albums to a non expert like myself. 4 Star.
So fresh, So clean earns all the stars here.
Very very good. Blends various genres with hip hop. Electronica, funk, jazz, gospel, rock... "There is no genre, no mainstream versus underground.. there is only groove"!
Never really listened to Outkast, even though they have been a household name my whole life. So Fresh, So Clean, has been sampled and quoted a million times. Ms. Jackson is a classic! Now Killer Mike has showed up in the beginning of his career. BOB is a famous song I had never heard before. Big Boi and Andre 3000 being a duo really works on this song. Also some really early guitar work in rapping which I feel like I've heard a bunch on later Kanye and Kendrick albums, neat to see that up here early. The refrains in BOB remind me of the Funkadelic album I had a few days ago. There are some really fun beats on this album - I can hear a real person playing a keyboard and sampling it. It definitely sounds like a real record, it wasn't all made in Logic with plugins by one person. Sounds like real drums in a lot of places too which is cool. Xplosion is a straight up Gorillaz song. Also a big fan of the nostalgia of bragging about subs and amps in detail for their cars - super early 00's Pimp My Ride vibes. I am the 2,641st play of the Good Hair interlude on Spotify! I like the interludes. They are fun and are from before the era of the voicemails from Grandma trope of when I was in high school/college. True little skits that go with the songs. I really like story songs so Toilet Tisha was sad but I'm always so impressed by artists that can tell a story like this.
Very inventive rap
Great album
Decent but other outlast are better
👍

Dirty south!
Great record. You can begin to hear Andre and Big Boi branching out into their own directions.
They overcooked this. Many songs don't work and overall it's way too long. But but but, it has some brilliant music. Bombs over Baghdad, Ms Jackson, So Fresh So Clean. It's a glorious mess.
Good up there with other great rap albums probably outstanding for its time. Good mix between rap and melody.
Outkast! Awesome album, good energy. I prefer SpeakerBoxxx to Stankonia, but this is a good album.
Love IT
Much better than the last OutKast album I reviewed. I disliked that album because it was too different from OutKast's usual style. "Stankonia" is a great album that offers more than just its singles. "B.O.B." and "Ms Jackson" remain classics to this day. What a nice end to a mixed week. 4 stars for "Stankonia".
🍑🍆
OutKast are extremely singular
Gear: Focalman Cleardara Artwork: 😎😎🇺🇸 Production: 🎧😘🤌 Music: 🌀🌈🚀 Rating: 💣💣💣💣(💣)/5
Such a strong first half and then totally fizzles out with duds in the second half.
Hitarna är så poppis att resten blir lite underskattat imo, bra skit
OutKast has such an interesting and wonderful way of making music. This one obviously has some all time classics but many of the songs you don't hear all the time are on the same level of clever lyrics, engaging instrumentals, and great vibes.
Crazy pull to get this four days after speakerboxx/love below. I like the kinda goofy fun energy of the album, with the skits and jokes sprinkled about and the "BREAK" bookending some of the skits. I appreciate how they included some less known features in here from Atlanta (Killer Mike got his start on this apparently??) but some didn't land for me. We Luv Deez Hoes in particular overstays its welcome with me, and Gasoline Dreams as well, but to a lesser extent. Some certified classics in here though, and a couple surprise hits for me, like Spaghetti Junction. Some of these beats are really experimental too, Snappin & Trappin made me feel scared. Overall, an enjoyable early 2000s rap album with some character and a lot of influence.
I was not expecting to know multiple songs on this album. Similarly to Speakerboxxx/Love below, there is a lot of cool instrumentation and little details. It was slightly less listenable for me with all the funny interludes. Some highlights: -Kim and Cookie surprising highlight for me, love the horns, bird noises and girl chorus -Rhythms in humble mumble are outstanding -Some nice bass on Toilet Tisha
Gøy, sjøl om æ hørte på det med et halvt øre mens æ sov mæ over deler av Saltfjellet. Men æ likte det æ hørte i våken tilstand!
Aquemini is a better album, I've always felt. This was their more commercial breakthrough and it's still good but it lacks some of the fun I feel like their previous album (that isn't on this list for some odd reason when there's like 40 90's euro dance albums)
A classic album from one of the best duos in rap history. A little on the long side and a few interludes that are skippable but aside from, a great project overall
I'm so close to giving this a 5, but to be completely fair, I'd probably skip a track or two, so I'm following my original rubric. 4 stars
Some classic songs but felt the collaboration songs were weaker.
Man, this takes me right back to college.
Love
3.8 solid, some were a bit meh but the songs that were good were GOOD faves: BOB, so fresh and so clean, gasoline dreams
At this point I'm kind of wishing that Dimery just stuck to rock and left rap off his list. It's not that the albums he selected aren't necessarily good, it's just that he displays such a shallow understanding of the genre and the most important, game-changing albums that I roll my eyes every 2 weeks or so when one pops up. Again, it's not so much the selections as the absences. Anyway, onto Stankonia. This is definitely Outkast starting to become 2000s Outkast, with all the southern weirdness and idiosyncrasy that Big Boi somewhat embraces and Andre 3000 overdosed on eventually (he just released a flute album...). So there are a ton of hits on this album, Mrs. Jackson, Fresh and Clean, Bombs Over Bagdad. That's probably why the album made the list--Dimery recognized a few tracks. Is Stankonia better than Aquemini, or ATliens? Maybe not. Is it more polished and commercial, palatable to a wider pop audience? Yes. As an album it's not as complete. There is a lot of filler and weirdness in here. Snapping and Trapping is a chore to listen to, despite it being the first track most of us heard Killer Mike. Listening to this track again, it makes me surprised, and happy, that he didn't disappear into obscurity after this awkward track. ? is definitely a question mark. That's a weird one, but at least it's short. There are great sleeper tracks on here though. Spaghetti Junction is super solid. Xplosion is a great track with B-Real doing a great verse. Red Velvet is cool. The whole album is kind of infused with a lot of 80s synth sounds that make for a unique sound, and part of something you hear a lot in Outkast's work, and some of Big Boi's solo stuff. Gangsta Shit, great lyrics and beat overall. Anyway, it's a very good album, but I don't listen to it as much as Aquemini or even southernplayalisticcadillacmusik. 4/5
Some stinkers on this album, but a lot of classics that still stand the test of time.
Overall great album. Fun, funny, funky. A number of classics here.
One of my favorites so far 🤩 “Ms.Jackson” remains to this day one of the most iconic songs of the hip-hop genre. “So Fresh, So Clean” is so engrained in the lexicon that it’s quoted by people who’ve never even heard the song. “B.O.B.” Belongs on every gym/exercise playlist ever. Even the interludes like “Kim & Cookie” give the album a “concept” kind of feel. Simply fun to listen to.
This album brings me back to high school! This is pre-Fergie and definitely more on the hip hop side of things than Pop. It's cool to see how versatile BEP can be and this album has some all time bangers! fave song: Ms Jackson
i went into this hoping to LOVE it because it’s obviously a classic but unfortunately that did not come to be. i did like it and there were some great tracks but overall i wouldn’t put it anything above ‘very good’. solid 4 but nothing more
Stankonia is a kaleidoscopic burst of creativity. An all-time classic and a major part of the soundtrack to my college experience. Break!
I’m no expert on hip hop but listening to this album really felt like these guys were way ahead of their time. It didn’t feel mundane or derivative or anything like that, rather quite novel. Plus I enjoyed listening to it too. I’ll have to return to it though for sure, I feel like I missed a lot.
Drags on a bit towards the end when they start doing this cheesy singing and the interludes are pretty pointless, but the singles are iconic and some songs feature some of the craziest hip-hop production ever. Also my song is on here!!!
They made a banger song about Radek so obviously 5/5. I didnt listen to the whole thing (yet) but what I heard I liked even though I am not a huge fan of rap :P for a rap album, it seems fairly decent!
Solid album but not their best one in my opinion.
Bitchin! Its a great album, complex themes, just a little boring on some tracks unfortunately.
There are so many classics on this album that are legitimate 5s for me. I love the Sly/Funkadelic influences, too. These are interspersed with interludes that I find boring/skippable, and the misogyny on this record feels like a step back. I’m not sure if it was done in jest or as a send up of the genre, but it doesn’t sit so well with me. The album as a whole is consistent, but I think I love their other stuff a lot more.
Could've been perfect but Cee-Lo made it a 4 star my favorite apple pie recipe https://littlespoonfarm.com/apple-pie-recipe/
Good album with some really great highs. Kind of overstays its welcome but the creativity in the beats and lyrics are unbeatable. great first half with a relatively forgettable back half that takes off a star, but otherwise a solid project
listened on the car coming back from a trip. I'm sorry ms Jackson
My childhood. One of the reasons I listen to rap
Rating: 3.7 Wonderful album. Excellent synergy from everyone involved. Very long album but they change it up enough from song to song enough to make it cruise instead of grind like a lot of these longer albums do.
Just a helluva an album with super huge hits. The lesser songs are good, too - it all kind of comes together in a wild, broad whole. But still too long! These guys need an editor! When you have a million good ideas I don't need to hear all of them! I get that's part of what makes it good, but it also makes it annoying. Shameful 4.
Love how creative these dudes are
Great variety styles that never stays in one spot long enough to wear out its welcome. Creative, original, and high energy with nods to the P-Funk past while weaving in and out of futuristic Radiohead-ish soundscapes. 4/ 5
Upon first glance, I did not expect much from this album. I think hearing Ms. Jackson and So Fresh so many times over the course of my life has desensitised me to not think of much when I hear the name 'OutKast'. Listening to Stankonia epitomises the reason I like this website. I had the opportunity to really discover an artist who I had not really given a chance before. Like the name, the album is a portmanteau of andre's avant guard experimental style and big boi's ability to bring it back with streetwise lyrics. The interludes made me laugh and were wonderfully well thought out. It really feels like it was meant to be released in 2000. It also really is a proper album. Not everyone enjoyed it and picked out the hits. But listening top to bottom, this album is a fucking piece of art.
Epic
Really good
Outkast get a lot of hate but this album has a few bangers. Ms Jackson is hands down Outkast' best single release. Gasoline Dreams is biting. BOB is great, too. Outkast are the king of pop hooks in hip hop.
An excellent OutKast album! I tend to forget how good the tracks beyond the singles are on this album.
more filler than I remember but some generational classics
4.8 Definitely not their best album as that would got to LoverBoy // SpeakerBox. But the album itself has 3/4 major singles that hit close to home for me. Being raised on early naughty hip-hop, pop or anything that was shown on MTV. Andre3000 is an absolute hotty so he can’t get below a 4 in my eyes
fantastic album, i can smell the stank
Epic journey! I only know OutKast's more commercial hits but every song had something! Even if this isn't you're go-to genre, you can't deny the mix of musicality across the album. Great collabs, great lyrics. Starts strong and the final track is a great conclusion. Overall - this slapp'd!

OutKast takes me back—their sound brought such a bright, feel-good energy to the genre, creating out a totally unique lane of their own. You can hear the joy, wild creativity and authenticity in every track. I always got the sense they were having an absolute blast making this music… and honestly, they seemed like they’d be a riot to hang out with.
True story: I worked at Tower Records with an artist actually named Chuck Berry. His silhouette looked like Basquiat and he was a really cool cat. One time he told me a story about how he hooked up with his next-door neighbor. Sometime later, he came to work one day with two black eyes. I asked what happened and he said he didn't know. He just woke up on his stoop outside his apartment with a bad headache and double shiners. Best he could surmise, his neighbor brained him with a frying pan the night before when he was drunkenly trying to find his keys to the front door. He thinks she might have been angry because he was kinda ghosting her after the hookup, and this was her revenge. Years later, at a house party, I was shooting video and interviewing everyone. I saw Chuck and asked him how he was doing and he said that the coming year was gonna be "all about Chuckonia... like Stankonia, but FOR ME." Chuck was a total original, and so is this record.
très très lourd, j'aime beaucoup le mélange rap, synthés, expérimental, bref très bon album (y'a juste un peu trop de musiques ET d'interludes)
Kinda dig it. If I heard each song in a vacuum I'd pretty much like them all. But after 24 songs, I was ready to move on and listen to something else.
top 3: - ms. jackson - so fresh, so clean - humble mumble / spaghetti junction *special mention: - gasoline dreams - B.O.B. - we luv deez hoez - gangsta sh*t
so good. might be the best 90s rap album... top five for sure.
Niet mijn muziek smaak maar wel grappig
So creative and varied
Apparently it’s Rap Week on 1001! I remember when Stankonia come out it was huge. I hadn’t listened to the entire album until now. Much like a lot of post-Golden Age rap, there are elements in here that are not culturally aligned with me. However, one of the things I appreciate most about OutKast is they definitely have talent, and the diversity of their music on this album alone proves it. I didn’t realize until recently that the cover is an homage to Sly/Family Stone There’s A Riot Going On. I think everyone alive in the early 2000s heard Mrs. Jackson and BOB, as they should. Big Boi’s flow is incendiary. I liked some of the deeper cuts in here like Spaghetti Junction and even I’ll Call which was kind of a surprise for me. It may not be my normal playlist but it is definitely tight and legendary.
Random thoughts: - Is the real last ATLiens record? While Speakboxx/Love Below was technically OutKast, this was the last one with them together. - if they could have made more So Fresh, So Clean or Ms. Jackson, that would have been great - I dug the hits on this one. The 2 tracks mentioned above plus B.O.B. - the rest was pretty good the only one that really jumped out at me was Toilet Tisha. That song was rough. - also, did CDs encourage artists to make albums too long. 1 hr and 13 minutes is a lot. It seems like 45 minutes is kind of the sweet spot. Just a thought that crossed my mind while listening to this one.
What a fantastic mix of music. Hard rap presented gently, with a solid helping of 70s soul. I am not comfortable with the gangsta rap lyrics, but I can't say no to this music. 4/5
Four stars for Mrs. Jackson
Bernie - stabil 7 Luke - stærk 9
So good. Why didn’t I pay any attention to this 25 years ago? The hooks? The heavy percussion? The sorta trippy vibe? Yes, yes, and yes. I particularly like “Gasoline Dreams” and “So Fresh, So Clean.” And, of course, “Ms. Jackson.” The album drags a little at the end: a better album might’ve dropped some of that (and been 15 minutes shorter). But that’s a small criticism. The album really takes you on a ride…. Highly recommended.
While not my favorite from OutKast it’s still a timeless classic. Big Boi and Andre glide on these tracks
fantastic
Was prepared to not like this album assuming a cultural divide that I would not be able to breach. Turns out I enjoyed it quite a bit musically.
a veritable cornerstone of any self-respecting millennial middle schooler’s cd collection
Great album! Skits tho :(
4.5 Great album, the strength of the great songs definitely outweighs the couple of songs I didn't care as much for. The interludes didnt add anything (do they ever? (Maybe I just dont get it). Sounds like they were keepin it real with all of the Atlanta collaborators on the album. Speaking of keepin it real there is a golf movie with Big Boi called Whos your Caddy and it is terrible
kind of a rushed rhythmic sound with really fast lyrics. good stuff but feels like the 90s in not a great way. some iconic meolodies like Ms. Jackson, so fresh so clean. a long album at like 1h15min
Great album
God tier music
The last third of the album really struggles. Was during a time where everyone felt the need to make 20 track, 80 min hip hop albums. Cut to a normal length this is an outstanding album. For me the though, the high points are really really good.
Love OutKast's energy and style on this one. Really listenable, fun lyrics and fantastic rhythms and beats. Never really followed the different regional hip-hop sounds, finding I'm quite fond of the ATL style. The energy does drop off a bit in the second half of this one, but the good is really damn good.
pretty good
I think that Speakerboxxx/The Love Below is a masterpiece. This is also strong but doesn’t rise to that same level. 4/5
Great hip hop record. I never heard it in its entirety but it hooked me from the start. Awesome vocals and rhythm.
Good album. OutKast was really a banger till Andre 3000 went crazy. Big Boi is a great talent!
When this record hits, it's hits big. But when it stumbles.... woof it's bad. Half the run time would have gotten this thing a 5 star.
So Fresh, So Clean Ms. Jackson B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)
8/10
I get the “Andre 3000 is your favorite rappers favorite rapper” claim. Fun sounds, iconic cover.
I really enjoyed this one. Ms Jackson is already a top song for me. 4 stars bc it’s not my absolute fav but over all very enjoyable and I enjoyed all the interludes
Hell yeah! one of my favorite OutKast albums. Really solid album, but might have done a little better with less interludes in retrospect. Still there are so many good songs and the overall vibe is amazing. Andre and Big Boi really shine on this one.
Break! This album is still fun as hell. When I go OutKast, I usually go to the more orchestrated Aquemini, but the sparse beats framing Andre3000's not-quite-outsized-yet persona is excellent. It feels like actual 2000 rap music, yet experimental in the right balance. A rare instance of great hip-hop interludes. Some of the guest-heavy tracks like "Snappin'" take me out of it, but otherwise, rock solid.
Listening to Stankonia offers a window into the evolution of hip-hop as it entered its third full decade. By this point sampling was too expensive or legally risky to rely on, so in its place is rich and diverse instrumentation and metallic-sounding programmed beats. Andre 3000 alternates dexterous rapping with more melodic singing snippets that hint at his later evolution as a well-rounded musician. The musical styles are kaleidoscopic, ranging from the expected (P-funk, soul) to the entirely unexpected (psychedelia, especially). OutKast deep-fried a musical form and came up with something that sounded entirely fresh and fun.
Andre 3000 feels like the rightful heir to P-Funk. So, yea, it's good. Weird. And good. And B.O.B. is just great.
When I turned 18, I got Outkast’s ATLiens as a birthday present, and it ended up being one of the big reasons I got into this kind of hip hop. I didn’t play their later albums as much, but Stankonia definitely got a lot of spins. Their sound was just so different from all the gangsta rap I was into before, it really stood out. The album’s solid overall, and it’s got a few huge hits that were basically on MTV non-stop back then… maybe a little too much. But for example, the song So Fresh, So Clean is still in heavy rotation in my playlists, it’s just timeless.
9/10 Great chemistry between Big Boi and 3 stacks. Great hits, solid production. Some filler but overall great.
great beats, great rapping. as a whole its a bit bloated and the skits don't do it any favors.
I like the Southern vibes and Andre 3000 and Big Boi delivery is excellent - and there are many great tracks (notably BOB / Ms Jackson) - but but but its too long, too many skits and a few too many dud tracks which prevent it being a 5.
De hecho, no lo escucharía con agrado nada de su género, pero...para eso está la palabra excepción. Les doy un 4
The most varied single OutKast album. So much fun and has so much character
A great album. I enjoyed most of the tracks. All of the good tracks, were really good. Favourite Track(s): Ms. Jackson, Spaghetti Junction, B.O.B. Least Favourite Track(s): I'll Call B4 I Cum, Stankonia
Out of the major US hip hop areas I think my ranking is: 1. East Coast 2. Southern 3. West Coast But out of all the southern hip hop I've listen to, I think this is my favorite. I just wish it was shorter. Mid 4.
Overly long I feel but on repeat listens I could get into this 3.5*
There are some classics in there.
4 stars
Classic album. I didn’t finish this but enjoyed it. Need to give it another listen probably.
אלבום מצוין ביטים מטורפים אבל יש כמה fillers... שיר מועדף - B.O.B
OutKast is always great. So sad they no longer make music.
aaaaall aboard the stankonia express folks! virtuose shit, aber wenni ehrlich zu mir selber bin lieded d'listenability scho chli drunder – wichtig hani's mer mal ih voller längi gönnt, aber wirde in zuekunft eher einzelni songs drus lose trotz grosser liebi für die 2 boys chani daher nöd volli punktzahl gäh – merci trotzdem <3

Interesting album
Not as pg as the hit songs. True classic 🔥
Best OutKast album??
Some of OutKast's best songs are here - whole album is solid - a little bit long with some unnecessary skits, but great songs. BOB is GOATed.
I love this record. I don’t think that I ever get tired of Andre 3000 doing just about anything and he has so many incredible moments on this album. Even with the lyrics in front of me I don’t think I’m physically capable of recreating his flow and what he’s able to do. Also despite its 24 tracks, it goes by really quickly and doesn’t feel bloated at all. There are a couple of skits and extended outros that perhaps aren’t super exciting but still help create a world that’s fun to live in for the 1h20 this album takes up. ATLiens for life but this most likely their best record. Favorite tracks are So Fresh, So Clean, Ms Jackson, B.O.B, Humble Mumble and Gansta Shit.
