Reviews (page 9 of 14)
It's a punchy classic album. A great for boosting energy.
Fun album with energy. A lot of short songs and many sound basically identical. You could easily look up and have listened to 5 tracks without knowing it. Blitzkrieg Bop and Beat on the Brat are the real standouts on the album. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend also.
I get that they're punk pioneers, but I just don't like most of these songs that much. Faves: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat
Astronomically influential and seminal for punk and so many genres to come - but for my specific set of ears, just doesn’t do a whole lot. Can’t say I didn’t have fun though. listened to on 63 bus
What happens when you mix a bunch of incompetent musicians with a cult like band? You get The Ramones, every white girl's favorite band since they all wear their merch. It is pretty funny that the reason all of The Ramones' songs are so painfully simple isn't because they are a punk band, but instead because they simply didn't know how to play the instruments at hand. This album by no means stands the test of time but it goes to show just how Punk worked back in the day, you could be the worst musician possible and still make a classic punk album. Call this album accidental genius all you want and honestly I don't think anyone with a clear mind will object that obviously true opinion, but I will say The Ramones do have some better material off of this album but it is very far and few between at times. Yeah it is still a classic but not as amazing as a lot of people make it out to be anymore.
As an apparent punk hater (which I wish I wasn't), I wasn't thrilled when this one came up. I'm relatively familiar with the Ramones, so I wasn't absolutely bummed out because I know they don't really embody the exaggerated punk sound that I hate. This album was totally fine to listen to. Would I go back to it again? Doubtful. Does that make it a bad album? Definitely not.
Cool album, not usually the type of music I like but cool nonetheless 7/10
All songs sounds same
very spiderman-esque album
wasn't too bad, just not my personal taste. i felt that a lot of the songs sounded the same.
Ramoans
Bangers!
Awesome I love Punmk Rock music .
Fun!
Loud, fast and fun, but I guess I like my punk a bit more abrasive
enjoyed how it was not too long haha. punk isnt my favourite, but it was an ok listen. blitzkrieg pop is amazing tho.
An okay album, several songs sounded the same to me. I liked Blitzkrieg Bop the most.
all of these songs sound like blitzkrieg bop
Short, sweet, and uptempo is the vibe of the album. The longest track is a mere 2:40 in length, and it does not seem to be the most musically complex album. This simplicity, though, along with its generally fun tunes and driving instrumental section, make it a enjoyable punk rock album.
This is my second album so far and I can say that I don’t really listen to a lot of the Ramones but it was decent to me. It has some classics, my favorite was ‘I wanna be your boyfriend’ and again I didn’t have a least favorite. I will say it sounded like one really long song.
7.5 / 10
A couple bangers, but most of the songs sound identical and repetitive. Just listen to Blitzkreig Bop (though I bet you already have).
not really into punk, but this album had some nice tracks that I enjoyed listening too
A classic.
Standouts Blitzkrieg Bop Let's Dance
Nice guitars. not fussed on vocals. High energy and pretty enjoyable. 7/10
Fun - took me to music I liked like Gang of four..
Rock en pequeñas pildoras. Gran actitud.
Love my punk and The Ramones are one of the originals and only a few American punk banks make the cut ,the DKs being the best of the bunch. This is fast pace and does what I says on the tin and was iconic at the time
I know this is prototypical punk, and they embody punk, and I do like punk, but I don't like these guys. It's important in that they laid down the most basic possible punk and is a starting point for more interesting (to me) bands.
Eh it's alright
Ok
Favorite track(s): Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue Heard before Previous rating: 7/10
and they complain that electronica is repetitive... highlights - blitzkrieg bop, i wanna be your boyfriend, now i wanna sniff some glue, 53rd & 3rd, today your love, tomorrow the world
3.5/5
Tuotantoarvot... Oikein hauskaa meinikiä ei voi mitään.
Good listen, Blitzkrieg Bop is a classic but it feels like it never gets better than that
I've never listened to an entire Ramones album. I did have a punk phase in my early teens but never listened to a lot outside of those few years. My feelings going in are mostly lukewarm. The guy showing midriff on the album cover is entertaining. Track 1, Blitzkrieg Bop. I've heard this song hundreds of times. I never gave it a focused listen though. It's a decent song. I never noticed the backup vocals in the chorus, they're probably my favorite part of the song now. Track 2, Beat on the Brat. I have also heard this one many times. I'm sure it was super badass in 1978 but it's just ok to me now. Track 3, Judy is a Punk. Good song. More tambourine than I'm comfortable with though. Track 4, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend. There's that tambourine again... Now that I've noticed it, I'm going to be hyper-aware of it for the remainder of the songs. Not a huge fan of this song for some reason. Track 5, Chain Saw. Track 6, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue. I quite enjoyed the instrumental section after the first verse. Track 7, I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement. It's the same verse 3 times in a row. Maybe about child molestation. Track 8, Loudmouth. Pretty average stuff here. Track 9, Havana Affair. Starts off sounding pretty good. This is on the top of the heap for me so far. Track 10, Listen to My Heart. More like listen to my tambourine, amirite!?!!? Seriously though, this song isn't great. Track 11, 53rd & 3rd. Forgettable. Track 12, Let's Dance. Tambourine. Some organ near the very end that I liked. Just ok. Track 13, I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You. Fourth song using the word "wanna" in the title. Approximately 13 unique words in the whole song. Track 14, Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World. I like the verse section. I don't hate this album though I wish that it had just a little more depth. I completely realize that the Ramones aren't known for their well-constructed musical masterpieces and to look back at this record 47 years after its release and criticize it's depth amounts to stupidity. This was a catalyst record more than anything. How many current and past punk bands would cite the Ramones as an influence? I am guessing that it would be a lot. Sometimes it's good to go back to the roots of a genre and listen to the albums that influenced everyone that came afterwards. That being said, as I listen to it now, the overly simplistic songs with a dash of added British accent(not afraid to show their influences) don't completely hit for me but don't completely miss either.
They’re not as one-dimensional as I thought. But all they’ve got is a red guitar, three chords, and the truth.
There’s some bops (ha) on this one. Good for punk.
Good sound. Untextured. Raw. Obviously very influential to punk rock. 2.6 outta 5
It's a prototypical punk album. Not much to say, it's a bit more melodic than some of the stuff that would develop onwards. Decent listen but not much to really dive into
Fun! I can absolutely see how this has inspired so much of punk and rock beyond it. In terms of listening to it right now, there's a handful of songs here and there I'd be glad to go back to (Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Now I Wanna Sniff, Lets Dance, Today Your Love) but even though each song is super short, 30 minutes of it all is too much in one listen. Maybe I really am getting old
Good but felt I was listening to the same song
Worthwhile listen but wasn’t over the moon with the album as a whole, couple decent songs in there, blitskreig is indeed a bop
Full of energy. Early punk counter to glam, prog, etc. so refreshing at the time. A bit same same though.
Some bangers, some not so much. “Hey little girl I want to be your boyfriend” 🤨 dunno about that
I like
This is a pretty good album, I would probably give it more like a 3.5 if I could.
Ramones have always been the „epic“ Punk band, I liked the least. Songs sound very samey and the overall sound feels pretty harmless. There were better band options imho. Fav: Let‘s dance
Doesn’t sound like they cared when they were making it, so why should I care about it when listening to it?
Possibly a low rating because what was a revolutionary sound when the album was released now sounds like the beginnings of a larger genre that's been improved upon.
Iconic sound - very repetitive. Lots of energy. Favourites: Blitzkrieg Bop Havana Affair 53rd & 3rd
14 songs in under 30 minutes — Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue. That sums up the energy here: raw, fast, and unapologetic. I get why people love it and why it was so influential, but these days it just sounds like generic garage-band punk rock.
6 None of my favourite ramones songs bleh bleh
2. Beat On The Brat - ээээ глубокомысленный текст. 3. Judy Is a Punk - о, мне сходу нравится инструментал! 4. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend - не знаю, что выделить 5. 6. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue - ... 7. I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement - забавный смысл. Listen to My Heart - нравится. 12. Let's Dance - качово. 13. I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You - тоже поинтереснее, классный инструментал, прикольный акцент на фразе. 14. Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World - не понимаю я конечно этих нацистских штучек в альбоме, но инструментал как всегда вытягивает.
Apparently I'm not a huge fan of The Ramones. I like their cohesive sound and their history, but did get bored throughout the album, potentially with so many shorter songs.
Energisk.
This album was a big deal to me once. Then I turned 15. 3 stars for the sense of nostalgia.
7/10
Had to remove a point for the excessivr ‘hey little girl’-ing but accept that ‘age appropriate adult woman’ doesn’t have the same ring.
Lots of energetic, fun tunes and snarling attitude that puts the “punk” in punk rock. It would be a 4 exc every song sounds the same. High, enjoyable 3.
Quite a interesting album, not really for me but for 70's I can see this will be a big deal 3/5
Very good
Ansi hröð og choppy lög.
oh dang this is a hard review. This album is objectively iconic. Pioneers in the punk scene. That said, this whole album lacks diversity. Each song sounds pretty much the same. I recognize this album influenced an entire genre, but I'm not sure we needed so many song doing the same thing.
I’d really give it a 3.5
Classic
3/5
A lot of energy with songs that generally have a good vibe. The production doesn't sound the greatest to me as instruments sound a bit muddy on plenty of songs creating a same-y vibe to a lot of songs that I suspect wouldn't be there live.
This is the first time I'm getting an album that has a song I actually know. I have a lot of feelings towards this album. I understand where it's coming from and how it was revolutionary in a way for its time, but I can't help but think this is music meant to be listened to live, as listening to it on my own makes it very underwhelming. The Ramones were more interested in being loud than in being interesting, it sounds like. Still, it's not a BAD album, but it's trying something and not quite achieving it.
Is Blitzkreig Bop a bop? Yes it is. Do the Ramones have an overly large place in music history? Also Yes. Does every song sound pretty much the same? Yes.
Sometimes, simplicity is good. The Romones are a straight forward, in your face, all gas no brakes type of band. The problem that comes with this, is all the songs sound the same. So honestly it’s an internal debate for me. But personal bias, I like the Ramones.
Difícil em. Muito repetitivo, mas tem algumas boas.
Great to listen to these purveyors of punk. However, it becomes to repetitive.
Catchy and fun
3.8
I know it's a classic but I feel too dumb for me. But I enjoy a few songs.
Yeah just make the same song 12 times and it'll fundamentally shape the punk genre. Good job.
same song 15 times. good thing its a decent one
Enjoyed it, to me a very simple punk sound with simple lyrics - I guess that's the appeal. Not really for me though.
I like covers of the Ramones better than Ramones.
Que albúm gostoso de se ouvir!!
Would be easy to give this album a 1 because of its repetitive nature. But it’s fun and it’s quick
Vibe but all the songs were kinda the same
it's impressive at the time, but not as much as now. basically you repeat the same sound and do it to 14 songs. the sound is very good but at time goes on it gets much boring and tiring at the same time. the lyrics are ok tho favs: bleigzkriet pop, judy is a punk least favs: 53rd and 3rd, i don't wanna walk around with you final rating: 6/10
I recognize what Ramones did for music. They're legends. But I can't listen to an entire album.
I was excited to jam this album as I have enjoyed the Blitzkrieg Bop in movies, commercials, and on the radio my entire life. The album as a whole felt one dimensional with little differentiating the songs. The Ramones had a distinctive sound, but I fear it was the only sound they could make.
"Blitzkrieg Bop"... So THAT'S what they're singing! Definitely a rocking tune. The music overall isn't my style but I love the guitar sound.
I didn't like this much when it came out but I've warmed up to it a bit over the years.
Pretty generic (uncreative) by todays standards but it was prob a bit better listen back then. But if you look at what else was out around then this is really mid with only a few songs that caught my ear.
Punk rock. Like the same song 10 times, but fortunately that song is 2 minutes 30 seconds and fun.
It all sounds the same to me.
A lot of fun catchy songs but outside of the hits this album is pretty repetitive and forgettable
Not really a punk fan, but i recognize the importance of this album and the Ramones.
It's cool and all but pretty repetitive
Short, simple hard driving songs.
3.0 - Ok
It was fine, but the album did not age well. sound too generic
Not as much of a bop as the blitzkrieg would have led me to believe.
Oi oi
Aways felt that this album never quite lived up to its iconic status
Punk epic.
Definitely need to take some drugs before listening to this next time
They have quite the interesting sound. It's reminiscent of many other artists but I can't quite place what they sound like. Very good and surprisingly unique.
Great but won't listen to every day
My coworker pretended not to know who this was to make me feel old.
Blitzkrieg Bop is an iconic song but on first listen the whole album kinda sounds like it over and over. Listening again and it grows on you and you can hear its influence on later bands. I heard things similar to Horsegirl, who are in turn heavily inspired by 90s bands so I assume that sound is one that has been passed down for a few generations with the Ramones playing a big role in its development.
Pretty fun; short. I liked Blitzkrieg Bop in particular.
They're the AC/DC of first wave punk. Fun up to a point.
Somehow this album made me nod and drum along whilst simultaneously wanting it to stop
Worse than I remember. Can barely hear the guitar om half the songs.
Thought this was going to be better. Hard to actually hear what was going on. But of a shame
I wanted everything, especially the guitars to be louder
This is a good album, but not great enough to bring me back for repeated listens. It's incredibly repetitive, but I guess that's kind of the point. It was super influential, so many bands and artists that came after were obviously inspired by them. For me though, they're more of a Greatest Hits band than an Album band.
3/5
Day 55 First listen- Iconic and the riffs and the songs are so catchy! (3.5/5)
Some bangers (Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World), a dagger to the ear (53rd & 3rd), and the rest blend together into a solid punk medley. Classic punk sounds wrapped up in ~29 minutes.
All of the songs sound exactly the same
Expected to get a little more out of this one but I was underwhelmed. It's got a lot of similar-sounding songs that run together and something about the sound didn't click for me. "Blitzkrieg Bop" ended up being the best track (not surprising).
Didn’t do much for me, though I did enjoy it much more than the other punk-esque projects I’ve listened to so far. Can definitely see how they were very influential in music during their time.
decent
Trzy akordy darcie mordy
Most of the songs are under two minutes, and the whole album is less than half an hour. It doesn’t stop on each track—it just rushes by like a whirlwind, fast and exciting. Simple and pure punk.
I'm sure it was influential at the time, but now it just sounds like fairly generic old punk
Super!
A worthwhile listen given it’s a classic, era defining album. I was familiar with several of the songs but they all start to sound the same about halfway through the album.
Hugely influential for its time and stacked with the best songs The Ramones ever did. Not a great album to listen to as an album as all the songs kind of blend into one long power chord rhythm. Still a lot of fun though.
Repeat listen
Raw. Punk rock not really my think I don’t think.
6/10 they have better songs in my opinion
Generally boring and not something I would choose to listen to, but undeniable how impactful this album and sound were for punk to come. The song structures and progressions remind me a lot of early/basic rock and roll, but the guitar tones and vocals are more aggressive.
précurseur et dynamique.
I've listened to the Ramones on and off before, but I've never listened to their debut all the way through. The tracks are energetic and make me want to move, but I found them sounding a little too similar. But enjoyable none the less.
Extremely cohesive - sounds like it could've been recorded in one session then chopped up - although quite samey and repetitive.
bem bao
Started strong - have always like Blitzkrieg Bop - but the guitar riffs felt redundant by like song five
An obvious blueprint for so many bands. But it's a little stale in its execution and variety.
-been getting so many good punk albums lately! this is a classic and i’m glad i got to listen to it -it was pretty good, not my absolute favorite i’ve heard of the genre but i can understand the impact a band like this had back in the day -Favorites are Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, and Let’s Dance
Ramones, YES! Great Album? Not really. Great songs though.
First instinct - noisy, quick, and unclean. But on second listen, it’s better! Songs more distinct. I appreciate it and blitzkrieg bop is in fact a bop. Buuut not particularly impressed.
3 Stars (8/15)
Fun good old old school punk nothing to exciteing but enjoyable highlights: beat on brat, Judy is a punk, blitzkriek bop
It sounds like The Ramones. It just drones on, but it’s ok.
I loved the catchiness and the energy, but it started to sound samey pretty quick.
Oye-ght
3.5 One of those where I have to average the legacy (4.5) and the actual music (2.5). On the former, founding punk, can hear elements of this in every single punk album thats come since. Groundbreaking. On the latter, every song blends into one, it sounds way too 'polished' for a punk record, drums are too clean, although that might be wall of sound limitations on old recordings. Lyrics are terrible, but to be fair that's true for a lot of punk artists that I like. It's interesting to see where a genre finds it's footsteps, but it doesn't always hit the mark.
Disgusting voices
An important album, but not my favorite to listen to. Blitzkrieg Bop is a classic, but the rest is a bit tedious to get through.
3.5 Fun. Probably monumental for its time. Certainly the cover looks modern it's used so much. But gets pretty repetitive there. I like let's dance.
this probably went hard in 1976
Some strong pros and cons here. I appreciate the far-reaching influence and ingenuity of this album, but I don't think it's particularly good, itself. It is short, though - so, I'll give it an extra point for not taking up too much of my time. Plus, without this, we wouldn't have Rob Zombie's version of 'Blitzkrieg Bop'; and that track turned up to 11 has gotten me through many a day in corporate America - so, that's worth another point.
The same song 14 times. It was short though. Probably because they ran out of ideas.
Everything sounded the same. The only way I knew the next song started was because of the few seconds delay between songs. 3 stars.
Can recognize how iconic the music is here, esp Blitzkreig Bop, but just not my preferred flavor of music.
6/10
3,5
Respect to the Ramones and their influence on others. Their sound is iconic and brings a smile to my face, even though it’s not my favorite. Listening to this entire album, I realized that the delivery and sound are too homogeneous. It all starts to sound the same. Influential & talented, but not enough variation to keep me interested for a whole album. It’s a 3.
Still like blitzkreig bop, the rest all sounds the same. It does sound good for the 70's has the punk roots in it, but still has some of the campy-ness of the era.
Fast, repetitive songs - actually one song is like the other. Funny text.
Not bad but probably overrated - I think you had to be there to get it.
A fun listen that gets pretty samey
This album turns out to be ok. A bit samey maybe but there are a few stand out tracks.
Nice but all songs sound the same Tracks to Track: Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Sedated (from diff album)
First of all, as a person who has studied a little bit of music production, I find it so weird that the guitar sounds so low and it os behind everything else. This basically means that the drums and bass totally overshadows the guitar, making it very hard to distinguish what it is doing. With that being said, when talking about the songs, I think they are just alright. They won't do anything particularly fancy. They are very simple punk songs played by people having fun. I'm not feeling crazy about this record, but I'll say it is a quite decent album.
Classic. Lots of the same if we're being honest.
Started off interested and then realized every song is the same song. Painfully repetitive by the end. 2.5
I liked the rapid fire nature and its cool that it pioneered punk but then again it also pioneered that punk vocal style that I just can’t get behind, I can really only give this a 3 and that feels slightly generous
Always wondered why the Ramones are so influential and memorable. I've heard some of their singles and they're... OK. 2 and 3 chord songs with good energy, but not really special. So I listened to this whole thing trying to keep my mind wide open, even trying to remember this was made 1976 and they were breaking ground for the punk movement. They do make a lot out of their simple song structures and the energy Is good. Admittedly way better than a lot of punks! But overall, it's too same-y throughout. tempo, energy, vocals, and the chuggy guitars all blend together. It almost sounds like one long song. If a song by them came on, I'd listen to it, I've even caught myself in the past singing "I wanna be sedated." But I sure wouldn't just decide to grab a Ramones album to listen to.
When I was in high school and was sort of gathering what music I really like, I started off with the easy artists with the Ramones being one of them. I used to really like them but now I’m in college and think they’re kind of bland now. Before you stop reading now here me out, I know and understand how influential and important they are to music especially since they are one of the stepping stones to rock music in the 70s like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and even their rivals the Sex Pistols. But I think in the year 2025, their music is just good enough but I definitely don’t think they are the best to ever play punk music. The music itself like the instrumentation is actually pretty good. While simplistic, it definitely is listenable and sounds great even today. The lyrics while at times can be catchy, could also be too simple and even repetitive. While influential, I think the Ramones are good but not as amazing as everyone tries to make them out to be. But I will say this, if there is an album to start off listening to louder/harder music, it’s this one! Favorite Tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, I Don’t Want To Go Down To The Basement, Listen to My Heart Rating: 3/5
I know it’s like influential or whatever, but just felt kinda meh to me. Maybe I’d think differently if more songs had the lasting power of blitzkrieg bop.
The same two songs repeated over and over? And that might be generous. Nice and short though...
Classic fun
Solid, not their best, but a harbinger of things to come!
Enjoyable album but didn’t blow me away
This album spawned a whole new generation of music. I can't say that I like it that much, but I appreciate the huge contribution it had to the punk genre.
It’s easy to see how this influenced two generations of simple yell-y punk music. Fun time.
I know it’s groundbreaking and all, being among the first punk records, and there’s no denying the energy. But boy do three chords go a long way - skip from song to song after thirty seconds, and it all just sounds like one long extended riff. Too much of the same for me.
Very influential band I know and it must have been quite something in 1976! Always enjoy listening to a couple of songs by the Ramones but a full album is a bit of a struggle!
Sneaky bubblegum sweetness wrapped inside a leather jacket. "I wanna be your Joey Ramone, pictures of me on your bedroom door, invite you back after the show, I'm the queen of rock and roll." - Sleater-Kinney
Everything kinda blended together. Did not dislike it, but expected to like it more.
Ramones are alright. They defined the "punk" generation when they rolled out this album and some of those songs are earworms you can't stop thrumming in your brain. Buuuut, doesn't it kinda sound like a flat soda? I mean I loves me some fuzz rock guitars but it sounds like the guitarist was in another room when they hit the record button (and I'm listening to the 2016 remaster version). Still, they stand out among the pack by forging a new direction in music at the time, and I appreciates that.
Talk about starting off with a bang! I think the Ramones can be summed up with just how Blitzkrieg Bop sounds. And then, Beat on the Brat is awful...not my 'sense of humor'. I'll give them props for popularizing (and commercializing?) US punk, and it is an enjoyable listen. Much better than that Adverts album, that's for sure. I think my favorite of the non-BB tracks is Havana Affair. This is a 3.5, as I like other albums of theirs a bit more.
Punky punk. Lots of good classics.
I enjoyed it. But it didnt really stick with me the rest of the afternoon like some of the others. it did inspire some other listening though.
Never heard front to back and better than expected.
A lot of groundbreaking albums can sound a little flat when you go back to them decades later. This is a foundational text in my beloved punk rock, though I always respected the Ramones more than I actually liked them. "Blitzkrieg Bop" is an undeniable classic, and "Judy is a Punk" is awesome, though I can more or less skip the rest of this album and stick to the hits.
Clearly foundational, though straight punk isn’t usually my first choice for listening.
A lot of the songs had the same sound but I liked a few of them specifically
Beat on the Brat for President
Good. Ol' standard
Wait. What. The Yanks invented Punk? (Yes, I know the debate. But I’ve never had any real interest in the birth of the three chord band, so never paid attention to it…)
All over very quick and does blend into one. But you can't deny it was a novel approach and it's influence is fairly undeniable 3.5*
Perfectly serviceable punk with some classics (Blitzkrieg Bop). Overall for me, old school OG punk is just a bit too simplistic and one note for me to really get into. A lot of the songs sound similar, the singing is very one note throughout. Love how prominent the bass is in the mix though.
Fun album
Hugely influential, though a bit samey
Great album from one of the OG punk bands
This album disappointed me. A lot of the songs sound the same. Blitzkrieg Bop still hits though.
Very repetitive, but I kinda like it
Every song kind of sounds the same but it’s fun
didn't realize how repetitive and simple the lyrics and riffs were, but not necessarily in a bad way. had only heard blitzkreig bop. The rest was ok, i guess fun to put on if you are in a punk rock mood.
I enjoyed the sounds but it all started sounding like the same song. I can imagine this being a bigger deal at the time.
Couple of good songs. I really enjoy the first few. After a while it was repetitive.
Old school
Some classics in there, some of the songs start to feel the same on the second listen. But it's good to listen to regardless, I think I could play this all day
Reminded me of when my dad would drive me to school and play Judy is a Punk every day. It holds up
For how much this album (and band) is hyped up, I expected better. It's not an exaggeration to say that every song sounds (for the most part) the same. Ramones could be described as a single 29-minute track with brief moments of silence to allow the listener's heart to calm down for just a moment. Which I'm sure is entirely the point. As a semi-concept album (at the vanguard of the punk movement), it's a pretty darn cool idea. I just wish it had taken the time to be musically engaging beyond the first couple of tracks. It's a rough listen towards the back end – at which point you're drowning in youthful drunken grunting and monotonous raging guitars, wondering when any new ideas will be introduced. (Fortunately, the closing track actually does a pretty good job of this! Nice melody and slightly held-back mood to end off the album.) In isolation, it's a fantastic sound. Great guitars and use of power chords. Great (if simple) drumming. Great basswork. Questionable vocals, but I feel that starting the album with Blitzkrieg Bop was a good way to amend that. It's pretty endearing to hear Ramone Numero Uno(?) belt out "hey ho, let's go" and the verses in his odd faux-British drawl. Every track is kind of a bop by itself, which means (per my rules) I can't give this album less than a 3. But it loses out on remaining stars, mostly because it acts as the forefront of a musical movement that did more harm than good. Rejecting musical norms can sometimes stand the test of time – as with jazz, prog rock, and metal – but I don't think punk does. 3/5 Key tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Today Your Love Tomorrow The World
Cool but all the songs kinda sound the same.
Iconic opener.
Now I wanna sniff some glue 🫠
their pronunciation really scratches my brain 3.5*
Blitzkrieg bop I don’t wanna walk around with you
Over rated. Not worthy of the cult status
More grown men in fancy dress playing guitar. This is a lot more appealing. But I do feel it's been a while since we've had someone who can actually sing.
Violently british
Canciones repetitivas Cancion final Ritmo 3 por 4
This album was decent to me. Of course it starts off with a banger and for that nostalgic reason alone, I decided to give it an extra star. Otherwise the rest of the album seems to sound very similar in the riffs. It almost sounded like a 40 minute version of "Blitzkrieg Bop".
Decent listen. Kind of nostalgic in a weird way even though I did not ever listen to the Ramones growing up. I like the garage band feel and quality of the music. It's simple, stripped, and sounds like it was all recorded in one take. Solid 3/5
The best song was Let's Dance originally sung by Chris Montez.
Pretty solid punk album from the band that gets a lot of the credit for the movement. This was their first, and it influenced a huge wave of artists to come. For that alone, it is worthy of a listen. Removing the album's importance, it's still a pretty enjoyable listen. The songs are simple, short, and fast-paced. Some have a little extra instrumentation behind the drums/bass/guitar set up, but most stick to the power rock trio staples. The vocals fit perfectly with the mix and sound they have. The lyrics often repeat or stay to one short phrase, but again that works with the music itself. Perhaps the biggest negative is the lack of distinction between the tracks. You could listen to three in a row and they all could've been one song. Even with how short it all is, the lack of diversity can get old by the time you're nearing the conclusion; it was all pretty homogenous. If someone were to not like the genre/style, then they would definitely not enjoy this album. Not that the Ramones would care. It's simple, but simply good. It's greatness comes more from its impact than anything particular to the album itself. As a result, I'll rate it as a good album that I enjoyed, but not that I rank as something necessarily great out of context. Overall: 3.3/5
Some funny take-offs of early sixties British Invasion song stylings. I’m glad they got to make later albums, which I think are much better than this one.
Classic Punk
Pretty pedestrian punk album. +1 for trailblazing.
Faded into the background
bring out the glue!!
All the songs sound the same but I kinda liked them.
70s weezer with better lyrics.
Ramones by the Ramones is one of the definitive punk albums—raw, fast, and unforgettable. Clocking in at just under 30 minutes with 14 tracks, it’s a masterclass in punk efficiency: short, energetic, and irresistibly catchy. The album features some absolute classics. “Blitzkrieg Bop” is punk perfection—undeniably iconic and explosive. “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” stands out as a melodic gem with surprising tenderness amidst the chaos. I also loved their punchy cover of Chris Montez’s “Let’s Dance,” which adds a fun twist to the tracklist. If there's one critique, it's the album’s repetitiveness. Many of the songs follow a similar structure and riff pattern, which can blur the lines between tracks. Still, the relentless energy and attitude more than make up for it. Favourite track: “Blitzkrieg Bop” – a brilliant, timeless punk anthem. Least favourite aspect: The uniformity of sound can get a bit monotonous, but every song earns its place. Album artwork: Instantly iconic—simple, stark, and as classic as the music itself.
Kind of repetitive and unimaginitive but good in a Ramon's way
The Ramones record is just ok. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who can actually understand what Joey Ramone is actually saying in any of these songs, both because he’s slurring all his words together and his lyrics genuinely don’t make any sense. After a while, all the songs start to really resemble one another and it’s hard to tell where one song ends and another one begins. That said, maybe because they’re so simple sounding, the record is very enjoyable. Lots of energy to carry you through and song genuinely fun moments if you’re willing to go along for the ride. Blitzkrieg Bop is the only song that stuck out to me ALTHOUGH there are lots of hilarious moments where one song ends and another begins that sounds exactly like the previous song. Loudmouth into Havana Affair for example… like did they track this record like that on purpose?? Either way it’s a pretty enjoyable record to have on
Influential? Absolutely A bit boring? Most definitely
Good stuff, but it's hard to listen to the whole album since it's all very samey
Okay, I have heard Blitzkrieg Bop. It is popular in mainstream media. We'll see how the rest of the album goes. Wow I do love how short all of their songs are. These songs all sound very similar. This album is still playing? Almost went to change the music and remembered that I am listening to this music for the project. OH WAIT - LISTEN TO MY HEART IS THE THEME SONG FOR A.P. BIO. LOVE!!!
Not especially versatile are they? The songs pretty much all sounded the same and the lyrics were pretty repetitive. None the less, I didn't go into this expecting anything more than what I got so this was OK.
I know they're influential, but without that context I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be getting out of this record. It's just 30 minutes of power chords being lackadaisically moved back and forth in the exact same patterns and with the exact same energy. They aren't unpleasant or anything, and if you took any of the songs in isolation they would be fine, but it really is just the same thing over and over again.
Were Ramones the original fake British accent? This music is fun but to me it’s cotton candy. Nothing really sticks around. Hard to tell sometimes a new song is starting. Lyrics are mostly incomprehensible, or goofy. By all accounts the style was exciting in the 70s but now it’s been done and redone thousands of times and I’m no punk historian to put myself in that time.
The bastardisation of this form has bluntened the power this must have had back yore
less heavy than i remember but i'm all about it, fun to dance to and also seems like it would be fun to play, 3.75 prob
punk rock.
If your using any more than one brain cell to listen to this album your doing it wrong. Really down and dirty for the time although I can’t help but think that the Velvet Underground and the Stooges already did this over half a decade before. Best tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Judy is a Punk, Havana Affair, Today Your Love Tomorrow the World
The songs are over before they start. Not sure there's much here, but Blitzkrieg Bop sure is catchy.
All a bit one note
Short, catchy, punchy songs. Classic sound and the epitome of punk. A lot of energy to them and quite like the frenetic pace and shorter songs. Edging on repetitive and a bit samey. Influence on so many bands and punk as a whole clear. Not sure I’d go towards it as a listen by choice, often, but appreciate it for what it is. At one point, didn’t even realise it had gone through three songs, and thought it was one, due to length and similar sounding throughout. Yeh, getting quite tired of the same drum beat and structure throughout now, some slight variety in the last few songs.
This was a little disappointing. I knew a couple of them and quite like them, but as an album it doesn't do much, just kindof trundles along with the same rhythms and sounds in every track. Similar to the sex pistols the vocals feel like they're mixed louder than I want them to be. Which is a little ironic since his vocal style means it's hard to pick out the words anyway. They're not as aggressive as the pistols and not as witty as someone like the buzzcocks. Must try harder.
+-
blitzkrieg bop
subject to change. i felt like some songs blended to well into each other, like the same song after the other. about 3 listens. definetly a good album, trying to be critical of the way i rank all albums. high 3
Fun album if indistinct!
Solid outing, a nice blistering 29 minutes of punk rock energy. "Three chords and the truth" indeed.
I think many people, including myself, will hear Blitzkrieg Bop and go “THAT’S what that’s called?!” It is appropriately named, because it’s a bop. It’s 29 minutes of a bunch of 2-minute songs that all sound the same. Really fun overall and because of the length, didn’t overstay its welcome.
With such an iconic opening track, I felt a bit let down that the sound never built up or shifted in any surprising way. Instead, it’s *ei o let's go* on repeat, and nothing particularly revealing or adventurous past that. Still, it's certainly impressive how consistently fun this album is all the way through.
Every song on this album is the same but in a good way. They sound like they're having a great time. As an album to just have on in the background it really works. Don't try to listen too hard.
As much as I love the Ramones for the simplicity of their music and their importance. Its really the same song with a different title over and over again. Minimum creativity, super minimalist, fun but not really serious, if you like one you will like them all. Not the greatest musicians but they made it work
none of these guys' legal surnames are ramone
A very influential punk album though more interesting bands have come out since. Still though the Ramones are a pillar for early punk music so I think they deserve their flowers. Favorite track: Blitzkrieg Bop 3.5/5
Somewhat repetitive, but the Ramones' energy is hard to resist. I would have loved to seen them play live. If only I'd been invited to Mr. Burns' birthday party. Standout tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat
Classic, if rough. Rocket to Russia and Leave Home are the real gems of their catalog but you can’t spell punk without Ramones.
Ok
I had no idea Blitzkrieg Pop was by the Ramones. I thought it was by a British band. It reminds me a lot of the indie I used to listen to in the mid/late 2000s. I guess that's why they are so influential? Given this was 30 years earlier!
I can't say I've ever been an active Ramones fan, but they've always been around (specifically on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 soundtrack), and I love the punk and pop-punk styles they inspired. I've listened to this album before, but it's been a while. I typically describe the Ramones as Buddy Holly and the Crickets if they were degenerates, sped up, with more distortion, and that continues to be an apt description (especially on tracks like "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend"). There isn't tons of variety (even by punk standards), which causes the 14 songs in 29 minutes to drag a little.
This could be one song
I think without historical context it doesn't really hold up. It was cool, because of the time. Now it just sounds underdeveloped, but not in a punk way
Your favorite band's favorite band
I think I only heard 1 song. At least it was a good song :)
Cool but most songs sounded the same
One great song added to my playlist
Classic 70s rock. Most songs feel very generic, read on their wikipedia that they are considered a huge influence of punk so I guess their not generic, they influenced the generic haha. Also read that all members took a stage name with surname Ramon even though they are not related - funny.
Some of these are bops (pun intended) but it does start to feel the same after a while. 3/5
Hits hard and fast. Definitely influential and the blueprint for punk to come. Blitzkrieg Bop is obviously the most memorable, but primarily because the rest of the album continues the song to create a thirty minute piece that doesn't end. Chain Saw, 53rd & 3rd, and Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue are some other highlights. Was I happy to listen to this? Yes! Would I listen to this regularly? No.
Surprisingly smooth and quiet sound. Does not have the overwhelming energy/loudness that newer records would have.
Fourteen songs in 29 minutes — you have to appreciate a band that gets in, gets the job done, and gets out. It was nearly four stars, but there was just a bit too much similarity between the songs.
This is a hard album to rate as an adult. It’s actually kind of devastating to listen to something you haven’t really listened to since before high-school and realize that it’s not really what you remember. The “hits” on this album both do and don’t age well. They are radio classics, but if you are my age or older I’m sure you are sick to death of these songs being absolutely everywhere. Amusement parks, fairs, malls, sporting events, grocery stores, literally anywhere they play music in public you are gunna hear this music. Which doesn’t help the album at all because the songs that are not like massive punk classics are just blatant filler tracks. Songs that even the members of the band don’t care about or remember. That being said, the filler songs and the whole album it self is incredibly short. So even if you don’t love this album, it won’t waste your time. And for those rare few people out there who have never heard The Ramones before, this album is actually great and will probably really win you over.
Never quite got the 'genius' here. Tese songs reaaallly sound the same and the there isn't much to them. It's fun and easily digestible, and the cover is great. This music exists on aura alone
Fun and simple. Not too special but a nice enough listen.
A bit repetitive tracks/vibe, still cool to listen to
Hard, fast, get in and get out. The sound is rather dry with a focus on the vocals which have this faux-brit thing going on. The same song structure is repeated throughout the thing. Despite being punk, it doesn't really rail against anything but the dominating sound of its disco days. So ok, but not something I would revisit
This music is so energizing. The songs are somewhat simplistic, short, yet they draw you in.
Loved how short it was. Started really strong but ended up being pretty repetitive.
3,5
"Blitzkrieg Bop" is overplayed. Other than that, I like the instrumentals, but not the vocals. Although as the album went on I found myself not minding the vocals as much. Very foundational for the punk genre, etc. etc. Wait these guys are American???
Great album, although the songs all have the same formula, so they start to sound a little stale halfway through.
ai oh molt bé ai oh tampoc maten però ai oh lets go
This was my introduction to punk music, and from what I’ve heard, this is a pretty appropriate introduction. I certainly liked the way they flip on its head the classic rock trend of trying to make the music into something more epic and grand than it needs to be. Favorite Track: Beat on the Brat
3/5 some good beats but overall not super my jam
