Reviews (page 10 of 14)
Good but this album is not my top choice.
Iconic!
Definitely has a classic punk feel to it with some absolute classics you may have heard in various bits of media. I definitely agree that it becomes a bit overplayed by the end and feels like one long song. I believe this album is an earlier one though so it's understandable that they'd define their sound a bit more later on. Still an enjoyable experience nonetheless
I fuck with it. It’s not my vibe entirely through it’s a lot for me to take in just 30 straight minutes of riffs, power chords and rocking and rolling. But I can hear the influence of it in so many rock albums today. Can go up with more listens, first song is a banger. But I feel this album either exhausts you or energises you.
I feel like I just listened to the same songs 14 times. Mind you, it's not a bad song, just sort of repetitive and one-note. I'm thankful for the 30 minute runtime of this album because much longer and it would start to grow tiresome.
Very repetitive, but it rocks hard and it's quintessential punk. If in the mood for it, solid listen. If not in the mood, boring.
Blitzkrieg Bop is iconic. But the whole album is kind of same-y. It's good! But the middle just gets a little tough to listen to. It helps a lot that all of the tracks are pretty short. The album also ends on a high note. I'm not really sure what else to say about this one. It's solid. Good but not great. Short, and kind of an easy listen. Headlined by a great and incredibly well-known song. Favorite Song(s): Blitzkrieg Bop, Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World
There's only one song on this album, but at least it's a good one. Also buoyed by the best variations on the theme being the first and last tracks (Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World especially — what a title, what a tune). All-in, another one for the more-important-than-great pile.
All these songs sound the same, but I like the way they sound. An entire album is a bit much, though, needs some variety.
I was huge punk fan back in the 70s (still am), but somehow Ramones just never moved the dial for me. OK, but nothing special.
Classic punk album that I have heard many times before. Mixed quality in the songs to me and a lot of the deeper meaning is kind of lost since its from a time before mine in a language that isn't my first. All that said I had a great time listening through it again today!
Listenable.
Here's a group with an identity. The Ramones know exactly what they do, and don't bother trying to do something else. This makes the album pretty repetitive but I appreciate the clarity of vision. Favorites: Blitzkrieg Bop
I can see how this must have been liberating at the time. Now it’s kind of boring.
Ramones start out strong. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend is the peak of the album, which fades to all songs after that being very, very similar. Not a bad debut for the (punky) New Yorksters. (2.7*s)
While overall I'm not a huge Ramones guy I can recognize that they are punk rock icons. This first album is an early example of high energy beats, simple guitar lines and basic lyrics with some edge that shaped the genre. Even if it doesn't resonate much with me I can appreciate how influential it must have been at the time. My biggest issue is that it sounds like they only wrote 1-2 songs and just recorded slightly different forms 14 times on this album. It's still an OK listen nearly 50 years later so I guess it has that going for it. Ramones logos and shirts have always been more of a visual icon than an audio thing in my life. I suspect many of my peers growing up in my generation were more so representing punk as a genre rather than Ramones specifically. 2.52 stars
Definitely aces the fast high bpm punk rock, liked the start but then couldn’t listen to much after that, I don’t recognise the subtleties between each song.
I love the Ramones but this album is only decent compared to the rest of their discography
Good, but all sounds the same
It's fine, I prefer more melodic or harder punk where the song writing is more complex
Okay 🤷♂️
ramones era legal até né
Think of Ramon’s, you think of punk. Pioneers of the punk scene . Good songs. Good band.
The Romones are great and I'd heard a few tracks from this album but hadn't listened to the whole thing before. Good stuff. Not something I'd reach for often.
Some pretty solid punk music, Blitzkreig Bop is the standout track and the rest are all sort of variations on that sound.
The older I get I realize how much my taste has changed. I remember loving this album, still some bangers but only a couple
Sjovt at lytte til. De er åbenbart dem som ignited punk rock. 3 cords og høj musik med skrål og maks gas. Ingen soloer. “Voice of weird pissed off kids” goofy lyrics og lyden er også lidt goofy? Inspirerede Nirvana, the clash, green day, the strokes, White stripes, blink-182 osv. det er sgu meget godt men ikke lige mig.
Ramen by Ramen
shout out the jimmy neutron movie fr
What I appreciate most about this album is that it's nice and short and sweet. Too many 50+ minute albums in this list, great to have something that I can actually sit down and get through with full attention.
I've always liked The Ramones in small doses. A full record is a bit overkill for me. Example: When listening to this 29 minute LP (yes, only 29 minutes), it feels like I've just heard the same 11 or 12 of the same song, played again with a slightly different beat and chord progression (they almost all sound the same). However, the ones that stand out as different were obviously big hits for them, which included "Blitzkrieg Bop," and "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend." This was enjoyable, even if it was a bit repetitive.
It's the Ramones. You know exactly what the album sounds like.
Average
Fun punk pop bobs. Wouldn't return to it as a full album though as some songs felt very samey.
Some classic on here, particularly 'Blitzkreig Bop' and 'Judy is a Punk'. Upbeat, energising, a bit silly. Makes you want to jump around. Bit boyish for me though, all the songs all kinda sound the same as well? I probably won't listen to the album in full again. I enjoy how awkward they all look on the album cover.
Very indifferent.
Pretty fire but drags
All the songs sounded the same
in and out in 30 minutes. a couple big classics. can’t do anything but respect it
1. Today your love, tomorrow the world 2. Blitzkrieg bop 3. Beat on the brat/now i wanna sniff some glue
A little repetitive but enjoyable.
I can't deny that the Ramones are iconic, and I do love them, but every song on this album does undeniably sound exactly the same.
69/100. Ramones self titled debut album is an iconic punk record. With first track Blietzkrig Bop bringing lots of Nostalgia for me. The rest feels very repetitive, almost sound like it's the same music in the background with a small change up in the lyrics. Overall decent.
Dated, but good
repetitive, but it's Ramones's debut so it deserves 3/5.
What if The Stooges but duller and more rigid.
Ya know, this is fun and it’s some super charged 50s Spector rock plus distortion, decibels and BPM; and minus reverb. It also has provocative lyrics. It was undoubtedly fun to see live. But is an inch deep and, like AC/DC, probably only needed one—this—album. But they kept going. And like the troglodytes they were, stuck to the formula, without reflection or doubt. Not my thing, but there are many things that are less my thing.
By all rights I should like this album. I enjoy the genre and the music it's inspired. I just can't bring myself to enjoy this album. It's ok?
Me gusta la alegría que transmite esta banda que no me pasa con otras de punk. El disco es de lo mejor del género aunque se me hace cansador.
6/10. Classic song to start but meh overall.
Ok, nothing ground breaking, rock n roll with a angry twist, lyrics poor, not as angry as English punk, probably unfair comparison, likeable enough
Ovaj album je jedna jako duga pjesma
Decent, but very samey as a whole album
Blitzkrieg Bob is another throwback to Tony Hawk. This one's a fun album.
not sure what i was expecting but their music is a lot happier and upbeat than i imagined???
Fun enough but quite 1 dimensional
Alright 6.5/10
una canción inicial demasiado conocida, q rico, pero de ahí, el album se siente muy repetitivo, ns, no es necesariamente malo obviamente, tiene las vibes de banda rock de los 70's, está bien para escucharlo de vez en cuando
First of its kind, but not the most exciting for me. Kinda fun, but a bit too simple.
I enjoyed it, very popular. Had the same sound on almost every track which is not a bad thing. Heard most of the songs before.
Listening to this album, I didn’t feel the overwhelming urge to save the world, or to house the homeless. I just wanted to bang my head to some simple fun punk music. No more, no less, just a carefree good time. 1001 album worthy: Yes - 39/ 68
I’m at a 3. I didn’t hate the album, but… man, that felt disappointing compared to expectations. I like the lyrics, I like the instrumentals, I like the vocals, and I even appreciate what the album is going for with this whole “simplistic songs” thing to counteract the bloat of heavy ballads and bombastic songs at the time. In a way, it’s sort of a general rejection of the idea that music can or should feel so important, and for something that some people list as “the first punk rock record”, I can kinda hear it, and why it was appealing then. Hell, it’s arguably appealing now, but… …it just didn’t click for me. I think that, even though this album is clearly polished to make their intentions clear, the intentions themselves aren’t as executed as well or as impactfully as they could be. While I was listening, I wrote down the thought “I wonder if you could mashup Blitzkrieg Bop to all the instrumentals on this album and get away with it”. If I can say that, it means you haven’t introduced enough variance or musicality to the project at all, and I know that for some people, this being a “every track is the same” album is appealing. The thing is, I’ve heard other “every track is the same” albums, and they know how to keep something fresh to make them still feel entertaining. Look at Highway to Hell – that’s probably the prime example of an “every track is the same” album, but it’s ridiculously entertaining throughout. There are things that keep this close to a 4 – the lyricism, when they bother to try and not just give up after writing a chorus and a 2-line verse, tends to be pretty good. There are occasionally some really cool percussion / guitar shifts, and as a whole, at least it’s only 30 minutes of this, and the tempo keeps it up from ever being dreadfully boring. However, it's just enough to go past a 3 for me. It’s really not a bad album, and maybe I’m just bouncing off of it because I’m a little too attentive (or not in the mood for it), but ultimately, it’s just not any higher than a 3 for a first listen -- it could go up higher in the future.
was that suppose to be punk rock?
As a huge punk rock guy, I've never been a big fan of the so-called "pioneering" bands. I'd say that mostly applies to the Sex Pistols and the Ramones as I do enjoy The Clash quite a lot (mostly their later stuff). I've always found that I'm far more interested in the proto-punk sounds of the VU and The Stooges who, while not following the short, quick, three-chord style that would later be commonly associated with punk, understood what would make the genre so incredible at the turn of the decade into the '80s. But New York's Ramones were definitively punk - with those leather jackets, fast playing, and the speedy banger that is 'Blitzkrieg Bop', a song that contains all those classic punk-associated sounds I mentioned (while also being insanely catchy). But I find this relatively short record fails to keep that 'Blitzkrieg Bob' fire lit - with some awful low points with 'I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend' and 'Listen to My Heart'. This band is hugely influential so I won't knock them too much. I love the idea behind those 17-minute-long 1974 CBGB debut shows; with them running through all their songs at break-neck speed. So to me, The Ramones are just that...the start of an incredible idea. An idea that would get built on so heavily and in such a short amount of time. I mean by the end of the decade this sound would've already evolved many times. But when it comes to enjoying this boilerplate debut, I just can't. Some moments border on being dry and dull. There are still some kick-ass moments here like the riffs on 'Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue' and 'Havana Affair', a song that contains some of the more interesting political commentary here. Very important, just not my cup of tea.
The first three songs are cool, but from then on everything else sounds the same. A good thing it is short. 3 stars
Hey, ho, let's go! I know a small handful of Ramones songs, and some of those songs happen to be on this album. Even though I find some of their songs to be pretty fun, I've never been inclined to check out an album of theirs. I'm excited to check this album off my list today! As much as I wanted to love this self titled effort from The Ramones, I thought it was pretty middle of the road. The first three tracks were outstanding, and I had a blast listening to them, but from there, the album was pretty stale and repetitive in my opinion. The Ramones didn't have a lot to say on this album, and after a short while, they ran out of fun ways to say those things. I did enjoy the high energy of this album, and the simplicity of the sound was fantastic, but the repetitiveness of this album after the first three songs really killed its momentum for me. However, those first three songs are outstanding. "Blitzkrieg Bop" sets the tone for the album in a great way, I'd be hard pressed to think of a more influential and important punk some from the states. "Beat on the Brat" is great too, and the heavier bass playing makes it stand out from the rest of the album. "Judy Is a Punk" is almost as infectious as "Blitzkrieg Bop," and its chorus of 'perhaps they'll die' is a perfect encapsulation of punk's devil-may-care attitude. This album is closer to a two-star for me, but its influence and importance moves it up to a three-star.
Most surprisingly iconic album so far, though the sound itself became super repetitive as the album continued- feels like the same chords just kinda kept being used. So despite the standouts, 3/5.
Listening to an entire album of the Ramones is a slog because they all pretty much sound the same. But the Ramones are a ridiculous group of people that made some memorable, high-energy songs.
yup its a ramones album 👍
I can appreciate the cultural relevance of this record, but for me it was quite a pointless album with a random selection of songs, that had no other real connection besides being loud. However it was a fun album to jam out to. Overall not something I'd listen to again and simply an album everyone just has to have heard once. Favorite Song: I wanna be your boyfriend. Overall score: 5.5/10
Immediately recognized the intro, Blitzkrieg Bop, as I grew up playing Tony Hawk games. Started these albums to know more about music, and I definitely feel like I am familiar with The Ramones’ sound on this album. With that said, the one song I added to a playlist will suffice as I didn’t find enough variety in the songs to really go back to the album.
6/10 songs I liked: I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend // 53rd & 3rd // Blitzkrieg Bop
not my vibe but classic sound
It gets rather repetitive after a couple songs
i feel like i have to give this at least 4 stars bc it’s the ramones but im just not feeling it today
This was the beginning of punk. Many good albums have been since then. "Self-Titled" has two notable songs: "Blitzkrieg Bop" and one I have been looking for a long time. I'm glad I found the latter. "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is the song of this album. 3 stars for "Self Titled"
Classic album, Blitzkrieg Bop great, though all considered, very repetitive.
I enjoyed it
pink
punk eh
stan is banger
Sounded pretty samey to me but was alright
Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones Ramones
Not too bad, it's an alright album that has this overall similar sound throughout and all of the songs sound somewhat alike, especially the overall main guitar vibe. Listening to it in the background is fine, especially given how short it is.
Not sure if I’m into this, similar guitar that both sounds overproduce and garage ish at the same time. The lyrics are very of their time and pronunciation is unappealing. I could see this hitting in a very specific mood when I am nostalgic for a time I did not live.
Fun album!
Decent auld album. Aged interestingly but aight altogether
Short and mostly sweet. There's a lot they both wanna and don't wanna do.
starts out strong but get's boring by the end, despite being less than 30 min
Foundational.
I thought Blitzkrieg Bop was the Clash! Really great sound, but it's just the one sound...
Surprisingly catchy for being lyrically campy.

I like punk music, and it’s cool to see where it came from, but Ramones have never done much for me
Some really catchy stuff, as expected. It all kinda blends together and everything sounds the same though. As expected.
wooo fun album
Important early punk album. Some great tracks on her
fun fast album but all songs sound the same
Rocking fun but often difficult to tell when a new song has started.
But the whole album sounds like 1 song. A good song, for sure, but just not enough variety for me to want to listen to it as an album.
The hit is the best song on this album
Its a fun listen, couple of songs I really liked, but a lot of song riffs sound very similar, hard to distinguish apart.
I see the merit in the Ramones but it all blurs into one. A very important album but not something I choose to listen to very often 3.25/5
all the punk albums on this list always rates 3 for me because i can’t tell the difference in songs when i listen to the entire thing. i love the ramones and i love the songs individually but i don’t think they get to shine when played in one go
At one time, they were the epitome of rebellious rock and rock, and a lead proponent of the punk sounds. Unfortunately, they only had the one song and after a while it started to get awfully repetitive. It didn’t help that other bands (especially the british punks) took the “fast and loose” approach to a 150 seconds three-chord trick tune and were infinitely better at it. Worth listening to now only as a trip down memory lane as it now sounds as tame as the 50’s rock and roll it sought to both emulate and subvert.
A classic and storied punk rock album. Quick, fast, and abrasive. Blitzkrieg Bop is a great way to start but it's not a genre that stands out to me. 6/10 (3/5)
Good classic punk.
Ay, oh, let's go! Starts out with a total bop, literally. The rest of the album doesn't quite hold up to Blitzkrieg Bop. It all just ends up sounding like the same song. Feels like they just had the instruments keep going for half an hour while the singers sang whatever they thought of, and then when editing it they just decided some arbitrary points to split it into tracks. Still, it's fun to just jam to, solid 3. Best song: Blitzkrieg Bop
I get it. When I hear this album, i immediately envision the entire punk scene in NY. This band embodies punk. Unfortunately, I don't think this is an album I'd listen to again. 3/5
they had the worst hair blitzkrieg bop- overrated and overplayed. 4 or 5 beat on the brat- 4 judy is a punk- 5 i wanna be your boyfriend- please dont call me a little girl when you ask to be my boyfriend thats weird as fuck. 4 chain saw- 5 now i wanna sniff some glue- ok maybe theyre onto something. or on something. 4 i dont wanna go down to the basement- me when i was at nana's house. 4 loudmouth- 4 havana affair- 4 listen to my heart- 4 53rd and 3rd- 3 lets dance- 3 or 4 i dont wanna walk around with you- 4 today your love, tomorrow the world- 4 do they only know one riff? and they made a whole album with it? nearly impressive if it wasnt so boring
Now I want to sniff some glue
pretty enjoyable
well......
Meh, was all pretty similar. 2.5/5
Eh, overrated, they were really only the face of the scene. Stooges and MC5 beat em to the punch by about 7 years, fellow CBGB goer, Patti Smith, even beat them to the punch for an official punk album. I'd say even their contemporaries from across the pond, The Sex Pistols did it better. But not the worst thing I've heard, but far from the best. Well I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend might be the worst thing. I can give them credit for pioneering Pop Punk from the start, never understood why some people would hate Green Day and Blink 182 because it's pop punk, but then enjoy the Ramones
Beach boys punk, couple of good tunes in here but nothing fancy, they certainly found their sound though I reckon
When I first tried to learn guitar (a failed endeavor), one of the first songs my teacher taught me was Blitzkrieg Bop. It felt like I could instantly play The Ramones’ entire repertoire. The pursuit of mediocrity that Ramones undertakes is almost admirable. The guitars are beginner level, the drums basic, the singing often unintelligible—and that’s the point. None of this is a criticism, because to call out The Ramones for a lack of technical skill is to fundamentally misunderstand them. The album was recorded in just seven days, and by the time you reach the last few tracks, they blend together in a way that suggests they may have been bashed out in one continuous session. The whole record feels like a challenge: they wandered into the studio, threw this together, and left it to the listener to either like it or lump it. It’s magnificently punk. While I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan, I deeply respect their ethos. Standout Track: Blitzkrieg Bop Score: 3/5
意外的还可以
Simple, repetative, energetic and perfectly encapsulates teenage punk energy in a friendly approachable context. I'd argue the beginning of pop punk started with The Ramones. Since other punk acts of the time were so aggressively punk in their ways. You should listen to this before you die I 100% agree. But, lets be honest its not the greatest album of all time.
Time and place. I can see how it would have been super influential given the time and I can see where subsequent bands came from afterwards. But, not to my tastes now
The songs are too short and they all sound too similar for me to be super excited about this. I'll never mind a Ramones song when it's in a montage in a TV show or something. But this falls into the bucket of "music I'm glad exists because it inspired a bunch of music I actually like." Thank you for your service, Ramones!
6/10 - The songs were all the same it felt but they were all short. 14 songs on a 30 minute album is crazy imo.
I live the Ramones. 7/10 That said I NEVER put a Ramones album on.
++: Blitzkrieg Bop, Judy Is a Punk, Chain Saw +: Beat on the Brat, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement, Loudmouth, Havana Affair, Listen to My Heart, Let's Dance +-: I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You, Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World -: 53rd & 3rd 7,6/10
Probably I won't listen this album again
-1: too repetitive -1: I am old
Either teenage angst has completely left my body or it is not easy to listen to this album uninterrupted. I might need to sniff some glue and give it another go.
Great, fun, energetic punk/rock. Not giving it a very high rating because after all, it is all very simple and same'ish musically. But I enjoyed the album. It's all about the drive and the energy.
Not enough albums containing songs that endorse beating up kids with a hefty lump of wood. Truly different times... This is pure punk, three chords, repetitive beats and bass, simple lyrics also repetitive. So repetitive I lost track during a three song stretch of "I Don't Wanna Go Down To The Basement", "Loudmouth", "Havana Affair" and and couldn't remember when one ended and another began...
The popularization of punk
I know I’m *supposed* to like the Ramones, and I do respect them for essentially birthing punk, but this album didn’t do it for me. Every track sounds EXACTLY the same, and its 29 minute runtime somehow ends up feeling 3 times longer than that. Tbh, this is barely clinging to a 3/5 from me. Punk got a lot better. I said what I said. 3/5 Highlights: Blitzkrieg Bop
Meh. I feel guilty just for thinking it, but it's a bit tedious. The songs are all the same, though mercifully short, but I don't get any sense of excitement from the music. I was expecting more after all the hype. Give me the Rolling Stones or Mott the Hoople over this every time.
tak trochu pořád dokola, jinak tak neutrální názor. 5/10
Favorite Track: Blitzkrieg Bop but they basically all sound the same
3.6, needs another listen
Good but repetitive
It's not bad, pretty fun, but it's very samey. I'd listen to the songs again but not the full album.
All of the songs sound the same, which can be both a good thing and a bad a thing. Anyway, I liked it at first but it dragged a bit.
I don't hate it but it's not my cup of tea. Some songs I seem to recognize. I don't like the vocals that much. I can see how this influenced modern punk music and even pop punk. All the songs feel the same after a bit. It's just okay.
It's a punk album
Iconic album! The Ramones always sound like they are about to get into some shit and it’s going to be epic. The vocals are distinct and the driving surfer punk drums make all of their songs a good time.
Certified classic, suffers from a big gap between the iconic songs and the filler
Fun but the sound gets old pretty quick
Nice sounding album. Would be better if 80% of the song didn't sound the same
3.2 - So I thought there was gonna be a bit more variety, but it all sounded very samey. Love the voice and the tone, but by the end I was just ready to move on.
When I commented on a Bob Dylan album saying it sounded like one song with lots of pauses I hadn’t realised this one would come up. That Dylan album was extremely diverse in sound compared to this. Can only imagine the band saying to the singer “well we’ve got this one tune, any chance you can just mumble different things each time we play it and claim they are different songs?”
Enjoyed the album. Some clever lyrics, but it's a little repetitive.
Punk at some of its best
That's not my taste in music. But ok.
Quick punchy and some good tracks but missing a little something to get it the higher rating.
two three four, fun but ever the same
Like listening to 20 knockoffs of blitzkrieg bop
It's fine. It's fun enough, but it really just sounds like the same thing over and over again. Also, definitely gives me pop-punk vibes way over punk vibes. I guess that's revolutionary for the time. Honestly, both punk and pop-punk can fall flat for me. I find that both have a tendency of being repetitive. As stated two albums back, I don't like new-wave either. Honestly, I feel I have been too generous with my 3's.
All attitude and energy, no skill and sophistication. A 5 star punk album.
I can’t say it better than this: "We play short songs and short sets for people who don't have a lot of spare time." Tommy Ramone
It is such an influential album, and so love the guitars, but I just didn’t have a personal connection with it. I had no idea who the Ramones were prior to this, but upon research I realize how much cultural value they had. It just didn’t move me int the same way
It's alright 3/5 Best songs were: Exit Music(For a film) and No surprises
Not sure about this one. Sounds very young. Makes me think of what my uncle would be like in his 20s
3/5
More important than good, but still fun.
Oldschool Ramones with Blitzkrieg Bop and Judy is a Punk.
crazy how people will go to the ends of the earth insisting that punk music was a radical political scene when the music that came out of it was truly some of the dumbest in the world. these guys were not starting a revolution they were singing stupid songs about getting high off solvents. AND THAT’S OK! but sometimes you just gotta call a spade a spade. a spade that’s young dumb and full of come. why does it have to be anything more serious or substantive than that? fav tracks: judy is a punk; i wanna be your boyfriend; 53rd & 3rd
all the songs really sounded the same to me...maybe it's my untrained ear because I don't know much about playing electric guitar but it really did sound like the same kind of playing/accompaniment in almost every song. sometimes a new song came on and it literally sounded like the song that just ended. but i do think this would've been cool to see back in the day live. i can picture the crowd jumping around to it and going crazy just based on how the music sounds and i do think that counts for something.
Perfect example of an album that was probably pretty revolutionary at the time (I think it was one of the first true punk albums) but has not aged well at all. There is so much post punk music that is miles ahead of this nowadays. It would be cool to be able to erase all memory of any music newer than an album to be able listen to older albums as if they were new
it's a solid "meh". after about 5 songs, the rest just blend together & all sound same. it is up tempo & songs are short so that is nice
hey little girl, I wanna be your boyfriend
more of the same
14 mal der gleiche Song.
Some really good songs that I enjoyed, but quite repetitive. I was drying my hair while listening to part of this, and every time I turned off the dryer, it was like, hmmm, that sounds a lot like the last song.
Fast and furious.
Okay!
They have such an iconic sound. The music isn't really for me though
I liked it, but I didn't care about it
Jedes Lied hört sich ungefähr gleich an, das beste ist eigentlich noch das Blitzkrieg Bop aber vielleicht auch nur weil ich das schon öfter mal gehört hab
Ganz nett, muss man bestimmt dabei gewesen sein
Pop-Punk at a time when the sound was new and fresh. While some of the riffs and chords sound the same, it's aa fun record with high energy. 6.7/10
Catchy and fun at first - but then the repetition takes over...
Alles ist Punk.
It was fine.
I appreciate Ramones and this album in terms of history and influence, but I may have got around to it way too late to appreciate the music and be influenced myself.
Never listened to this album in full or the Ramones intentionally really ever but I'm familiar with most of their music already. 3 tracks in and it's my favorite album I've heard on this so far. Started off strong but it really lost steam towards the latter half
I know it’s a classic and influential to many but come on, it’s the same song over and over.
Surely the band with the highest T-shirt sales:actual streams ratio of all time? 3.3
Short and punchy. I like them but not a massive fan. Good in short bursts!
Great punk, album was too long for my preferences.
It’s raw and fast. There’s a gritty charm to the simplicity. It feels like the rough edges were left in on purpose. The energy’s there, but it’s more direct. It’s not polished, and that’s part of the appeal. The only real problem is all the songs really start to sound very similar the longer the listen goes.
Honestly so mid. First songs are pretty good but it just gets really repetitive as it goes on. Short album too, but they make it feel so long. Anyways, listen to it if you’d like to. 6.14/10.
Classic punk record. One thing I'm noticing in a lot of these albums is rock stars love writing love songs about "little girls" which is gross. Like why are these dudes on the album cover wanting to be the boyfriend of a little girl????? Also I'm being a bit critical but I understand that this is a pretty influential album and that the Ramones were quite influential but I completely zoned out after like 5 songs. They're all a bit repetitive.
Decent
All sounds very similar. Not bad but the shortness made it fine. Gritty I guess. YouTube Music only has the 3 hour 'super deluxe' version and no way I was going to listen to all that.
Every song sounds nearly identical to Blitzkrieg Bop. Luckily it's a really catchy sound and the album doesn't overstay its welcome.
3.3/5
Started with their most recognizable song. A generational banger that has continued to be a huge hit for decades. Then I realized after half way through the album that all the songs sound incredibly similar which made me wonder why Blitz was the one that was the most popular. It’s slightly more catchy than the rest but honestly they all sound so similar that any other songs could have also been mega hits. Over all a bit too long and not varied enough to discern song from song. 6/10
Not much on the lyric front
Iconic yeah. But it’s a classic case of the one-trick pony band/album, so how much do you like that trick? I’m in the middling camp on this one. For a band with no great talent I always like how quick and smooth it sounds compared to some rougher garage rock/punk. Obviously Blitzkreig Bop is the standout, and then it’s varying degrees of the same, which while thankfully short, doesn’t really make it that exciting as an album. For scoring I largely found myself comparing this one to The Dictators album (same time, location, genre) we had in here a couple of months back. I gave that a 3 and to be honest preferred it as an overall listen as the songs varied more, however, it didn’t have quite the swagger of Ramones. Let’s call it a draw.
One likes the energy and brevity, the lack of pretense (no guitar solos!), the hooky melodies and melodic hooks, but the novelty wears off quickly within a single listen. And the facade hasn't exactly got much deeper across the years. Groundbreaking? Sure. Fresh and cool and different for its time? Undoubtedly. Enduringly unique? Yes. But it's also quintessentially bubble-gum, more than a little naive, and simple to the point of being rudimentary. One can't decide if the world needs more bands like the Ramones or fewer.
If each song didn’t have a clear ending, I would genuinely find it IMPOSSIBLE to know when it was a new song.
A full album containing only one song. It’s a pretty good song though n
Punk, aber ok
I have not heard much punk-rock music but I am acceptant that it doesn't do much for me. I found Ramones's Self-Titled to be dull and repetitive, and salvaged primarily by the fact that it wasn't even 30 minutes long. The music is meat-and-potatoes and I wouldn't say it's inherently bad. It's the monotony that grates and unfortunately this album is little more than monotony. As I am not a punk-rock fan, and would like to judge these albums at least partially from a standpoint of what they were attempting to do, or perhaps more fairly and broadly, from consideration of the genre, and since I find most punk rock somewhat nebulous and uninteresting, I'm not going to give this one star or anything even if my personal enjoyment of the album was like a 3 or a 4 out of 10.
Beaucoup d’énergie expulsé par les Ramones, par contre, ils tombent en loop très rapidement, transformant un album de 30 minutes en album double
Look OK, they're a bit of fun, but they've never been able to hold my interest for a full album. Even one that's only 30 mins long. 2.5/5
Only the Ramones can play the same song 14 times and make it work as an album. Quintessential punk.
Blitzkrieg bop is a good tune and the album was nice and short. No real complaints from me
A solid album, not the best but good
Yeah, the Ramones are good. But all these songs bleed together into one note that gets repetitive real fast.
Blitzkrieg Pop is a classic, but the tunes do sound very samey
One-trick pony. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue is a very Blue Peter version of punk. Silly. I mean, it's ooookaaay. Clean-cut punk.
I like them, but I've never loved them. Almost every track sounds the same, their signature sound. They don't care, and they sold millions of records and t shirts. Nothing great, the guitars and attitude are better than the vocals, but gets an extra star for being part of something that influenced so many of the bands I love.
Fun noise but nothing outstanding about many individual tracks. I enjoyed the fast pace of it though. Maybe just felt a bit one dimensional - but still good!
3 stars seems to be about the ceiling for my enjoyment of punk albums. This one reaches that ceiling.
You know what you're getting here, and I see the appeal. I feel it's more influential than it is good, but it's good. It feels like largely the same 2 minute thing with a slightly different feel over and over, but it's still good. Blitzkrieg Bop is still a banger.
Pretty cool - and I understand it’s cultural and musical importance. I am more of a post punk guy though
7/4/24. Happy Independence Day and glad I was assigned a pioneering American band, the Ramones. They're importance in the punk genre is significant, but this album was a little too straight forward for me. Great songs, but nothing over the top.
First three songs good rest meh
The lyrics seem like the most random things ever but the music definitely has punk energy and is pretty cool.
While I completely understand what they did for the punk genre, and there are some really fun tracks here, most of it falls flat for me.
Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.
Very straightforward and fun punk music. The definition of "Play it fast, play it loud."
Well, I had high hopes for this one and after a strong start; it faded and become monotonous for me.
I was happy to see the Ramones come up in the album a day list, but then realized this isn't my favorite of their albums. It was a short listen, but the songs kept playing ear worm melody in my head all day - walking the dog: "Hey Ho, Let's go", reading the news: "Beat on the Brat with a baseball bat". It's the Ramones so I feel obligated to give a high review, but... just not feeling it today I guess.
I hadn't heard some of the songs on this album, and there's actually one or two that's a bit slower! They do all kind of blend together, lacking the variety available from other artists. However, consider this album in its context: introduction of punk to the world. From that perspective, it's fantastic and bold. Still, listening to large amounts of this when not drunk and partying is a bit tiring to the ears. Not really danceable: really more of a spasmodic response.. who looks good doing that? Singing register too low.
Decent rock but all kinda sounds the same after a while.
It all kind of sounds the same and blends in to each other. Standout: Blitzkrieg Bop
I like the punk style and pretty much all tracks are good head bobbin’ toe tappin’ energy. I definitely can listen to it from start to finish with no issues, though there really isn’t anything I love. I’d rather listen to Green Day, the clash, talking heads for this vibe. I do smile with how they sing “massacre” for the sake of a rhyme.
A very samey album, a couple of good catchy tracks. There's lots of energy in the record but not for me.
One of the first punk albums. I like Blitzkrieg Bop song, but honestly all other songs are so alike, repetitive and simple ( but what can you aspect from guys that played instruments like for a year )
The good news is, if you like one song on this album you’re going to like them all. The bad news… 🤣 Does it really matter though if you’re all liquored up and ready to mosh?
Cool sound and appreciate what they did for the Punk scene but started to feel "same-y" by the end.
This album kind of sounded like one long half hour song, each track sort of bled into the next which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it didn't really "gel" with me.
Epic
A lot of the songs sound the same. Some good ones though
A high 2.5 for me. I get that they were proto punk, but I don't take a lot away from the songs.
Why are these malnourished medieval peasants trying to make punk music? Don't they know it's a pastime only for bri'ish people, eh? Perhaps they should've stuck to making tshirts. The album's not exactly a 3, but I appreciate that it was short at least.
Ok
Nice sound for being punk, not too screeching and noisy. Really iconic voice on the singer as well to create that Ramones sound. Generally for me I find it a bit too samey. I have no problems with simple chord progressions, but every song on this album sounds kind of the same to me. 'Blitzkrieg Pop' is a really nice song, but there is not really anything else that stands out. Don't know what group that was first with punk, but if it was Ramones, I can imagine that it was quite groundbreaking when it came. Going to have to be a strong 3 for me.
I always thought of "The Ramones" as the same category of punk as "Sex Pistols" and "The Clash", listening to this was quite different though. While others felt angry this felt more happy. It reminded me a lot of 50-60s rockabilly mixed with pop and distorted guitars. It was a surprisingly easy listen. It did get a bit samey but the chants and nearly pop-like aspects of the tracks were good. Solid 3.
hei hou, lets gou, hei hou, lets hou , hei hou, let sgou,.. minkälainen ASENNE näillä nuorilla nykyään!!! hällä väliä ja juhlitaan!!!! ei leikata hiuksia! ei leikata hiuksia! ei leikata hiuksia! haistakaa vittu PASKA vanhemmat!!!! läski kieli laulajalla, vaikea nostaa ei lihas riitä kun niin paljon läskiä kielessä että pysyy visusti kiinni alalieveessä, siksi kuulostaa erikoiselta laulaminen... fat injections to tongue, FUCK THE PARENTS!! FUCK THE PARENTS!!!!! ja joo tuota kuunteleppa biisin alku ja siirry seuraavaan se on täsmäle mmeln sama heh, observaatio tässänäin heh.. ei tosiaan voi kovin kiinnostavana pitää albumia vaikka osittain miellekästäkin musiikkia mutta ideoita voisi olla parikolme enemmän tuotu esiin kohdittain tähän.. now i wanna sniff some glue
Who could forget Blitzkrieg Bop?? :) The rest of the album was just ok.
When I first saw that this was my album-of-the-day, I thought, “easy 5-stars.” But after listening closely, I’m surprisingly meh on it. It’s a fun listen, no doubt, but all the songs sound exactly the same. The lyrics are super repetitive (when you can even understand them). Plus I’m docking a point for the song about dating a little girl.
Like it 3/5
Now, I'm assuming that the original version of this album was not quite the 2 hour 78 track epic that I was taken to. That said it was a pleasant surprise for it to start with the well known classic Blitzkrieg Bop. And the rest didn't disappoint, it is what it is with no airs or graces. The cover of Lets Dance did come as a bit of a surprise, but it was a decent one. Now for the biggie, yes if I come across one I will buy it. But I won't necessarily go out looking for it. A solid high 3
They are a good vibe. A little samey, but successfully so: they found a formula that worked for them and stuck with it.
Punk rock fuck yeah!
Punk by numbers
first listen it's so classic but gets repetitive
Un clásico gigante del punk. Hoy no suena tan trasgresor como seguramente fue en su época. Por momentos repetitivo, pero divertido, simple y directo. Ningún tema sobrepasa la barrera de los 3 minutos, así que se va rápido.
Love punk, wish i could give this 3.5 but it’s just too monotonous and vanilla
Not bad but not my favorite- the songs started sounding very similar to each other
This album directly influenced the music I love, however, it’s not something I want to listen to very often. There’s a couple tracks that are good for sure, but it gets old.
53rd and 3rds backing vocals take this down a notch. So many classics but 4/5 stinkers. High 3
I overall like their sound but every song starts to blend together. But I wish I could have gone to a livw concert back in the day.
opener's a BOP am I right?! otherwise standard mid album where it's obvious there's a single that there needed to be an album around for some reason.
On the one hand, it’s OG punk, hard to not enjoy the energy. On the other hand, musically, the is Jackson Pollock. Anyone can do it, they just didn’t. Hearing the direct influence of the British Invasion is kind of hilarious. Definitely not life changing for me but a fun revisit, and completion.
Awesome! Fun! Hey! Ho! Let’s Go!
Classic original
A single Ramones song is phenomenal, a whole album gets a bit monotonous
Good couple songs but very samey
Decent album. Every song is like 2 minutes long. Easy to listen to but tough to get into.
The album is much of the same. It is a fine album but besides blitzkrieg bop and a few others nothing really stood out. Still was an enjoyable record overall.
Very fun with a raw, youthful energy. Also very repetitive and borderline annoying at times, though the short runtime makes that less of a problem. Even though I liked this and think it set out what it aimed to do, on first impression, I’m having a hard time giving it more than a 3.
Classic punk, heavy distorted power chord guitars with a strong drums holding them. The mixing and mastering is very 70s punk. Essential album for the future generations. A bit repetitive IMO Fav track: Beat on the Brat
A fun romp, after a while you understand the basic structure of each song and it gets tiring. But you can’t help but love em.
I never had this album but had the It’s Alive album which contained most of the live version of the tracks on this album. As a side, this selection prompted me to look for the live album and it appears to have gone missing, stolen, failed to be returned-whatever! It was the Ramones who finally got me interested in Punk. I liked the relentless energy generated song after song. True that each song sounded like the last and seemed to begin “1.2.3.4”….but loved the endless riff which was great when you needed to real stomping music to put on. This was especially so on the live album (if I could find it!) Listening again to this it does nowerdays sound a little thin and you do need to crank the volume up high to experience what the Ramones were about. The sameminess of the songs did mean that after this initial dalliance I soon went off The Ramones. It’s not an album now that I particularly like but i don’t rate it now on today’s likes. The Ramones and these songs were an important part of my lifetime musical journey. These songs do bring back a lot of memories and I will occasionally, in the absence of my live album, stick this on. 3/5 20/4/24
Boppy punk, I’m into it
Iconic looks, iconic sound. It isn’t the greatest or most varied and impressive album in the world, but it chugs along and doesn’t run too long so it keeps from losing its edge. Really fun to listen to, and catchy to boot.
All I could imagine was seeing these guys in some dodgy basement and jumping around getting your face rocked for a good hour or so. Just some simple, bare bones, high energy rawk. With that said, it’s a lot of similar songs for a full album. Could use a bit more variety but the the ramones prob don’t give a fuck what I think.
It was OK 3 stars
Pure energy. It must have been a revolutionary record that pushed a lot of young aspiring in musicians to just go for it and start a band in their garage. Nowadays it doesn’t hit as much I’m afraid and it’s too repetitive to enjoy. 3.5/5 based on it’s status in music history and it makes me think of playing thps 3 back in the day.
America's first punk rock band, if we exclude the New York Dolls, the Stooges, Richard Hell, Death, Patti Smith.... Okay so maybe they weren't the first, but the cultural force of the Ramones is undeniable. Compared to the exaggerated and sneering performance from the Sex Pistols, the Ramones were more subtle: simple leather jackets and jeans, apathetic looks with hands in pockets, and fairly straightforward punk songs. For a lot of their debut album, they follow a basic formula of 2-and-4 rock beats, steady power chords, and playing it relatively quickly. Rarely do they break away from this format, but I suppose that's what makes it punk. Blitzkrieg Bop is easily the most interesting song of the bunch for it's ability to at least deviate with it's memorable "Hey ho, let's go!" chant where all the instruments drop out save for the drums. The whole experience starts to blend together after the opening track and really once you've heard one Ramones track, you've heard most of them. But man they were right there in New York City in the 1970's making it happen. The Ramones were the culture, and everything followed soon after. I think they've earned the right to be praised for their contributions to punk, but I do not think it can be so easily distilled and packaged into a simple studio album. This album is only the simulacra of the Ramones, though it can be argued that all recorded music is just a simulacra of the artist. Ramones is the memetic form of punk rock as we understand it today, which is funny considering that Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene was also released in 1976. For that, we ought to be grateful.
I had no idea I knew so many of their songs! Blitzkrieg Bop? Iconic. Generally not my jam though unfortunately
Took me 4 days to finally finish this. Blitzkrieg Bop is a classic. Enjoyed the whole album really. It seems it was a bit ahead of its time then 3.4/5
This album makes me wish I was 19 in London with a purple Mohawk. Gave me a right thrashing. No particular favorite song. Did not add to my Spotify playlist.
Starts with a bang(er) and then spends the rest of the album with remarkably similar yet inferior tracks. +1 for being embedded in my soul after many hours of Tony hawks pro skater during my developmental years
The Ramones are a beloved part of punk rock history and have certainly left their mark on music and influenced many artists. They were also I nice palate cleanser after the last album. I enjoyed this album. It's not my go-to genre, but it played about ten times today and over the weekend.
The guy second from the left has a slightly weird belly button. All the songs sounds the same, I kind of dig it. (The music not the belly button) Fave track: Havana Affair
The Ramones have pick me girl energy, they aren't bad though. Favorite track was Now I wanna sniff some glue.
Rough punk sound. Interesting to listen to, but punk isn't for me.
I own this album, though I don't listen to it that often. I like the Ramones. They're a fun band. And what Millennial doesn't have extreme nostalgia for Tony Hawk Pro Skater anytime "Blitzkrieg Bop" comes on? Their influence on American punk is legendary, so I totally understand why this album is on this list. And I bet they would've been a blast to see live at CBGB. But, as much as I like them, I don't know if I'll ever really *love* their studio work because the music gets really repetitive. Almost every song sounds like it's going to be "I Wanna Be Sedated" (which is a great song that's not on this album). And I can't for the life of me understand 95% of the lyrics, though I enjoy the sound of Joey's singing voice. It's a fun listen, to a point. As short as it is, it starts to feel long because of the repetitive sound. And yes, I understand that's part of punk. But it doesn't have to be *this* repetitive. So it's getting a 3/5 from me (might give it a 3.5 if I could).
Not a huge fan of punk in general, but not a bad album though. Short-ish songs. Sound quality was very bass-y, and sounds like it was recorded in the 70s on the cheap, but still sounds okay. Very teenage, rough vibe. 6/10
Album cover is one of the best things I enjoyed about this album. But I guess if I had to listen to punk I wouldn't mind this. Probably a 2 for me but I do think they deserve higher, although for me I can't get past 3.
I don’t truly understand all the hype for this band. I get they paved the way for many other bands but the music just all sounds the same. People will probably get really mad at me for saying this.
Nice but sounded all the same
Its the Ramones, does what it says on the tin
It's actually been a long time since I've listened to Blitzkrieg Bop. After the last one it's nice having an album where all songs are around 2 mins or shorter. A lot of the sounds really sound similar to each other.
arghhh c'est vraiment speedé et genre 'maman omg j'ai tellement de chose à dire je vais toute te dire d'un coup " bliblibliblibli
i suppose it didnt overstay its welcome. you can definitely hear their influence in all of the better stuff that followed.
3.5
Ramones is a easy 3 all day long. Doesn't fuck around, has very simple but effective rhythms, probably a bit too samey track to track, but mix it up just enough vocally to give them personality and make them memorable. They've become overrated in general because of the brand and because of Blitzkrieg Bop but this was half an hour of good energy.
I prefer Rocket To Russia to this album, but it's still pretty solid. Good bit of energy, no messing around, a tight half an hour. Weirdly, it gets a bit twee in places, and if you compare it to some of the other punk coming out around then it doesn't have the same edge, but it's still a good listen. 3/5, quite a high one.
I like the concept of a punkband doing simple powercords really fast and understand the meaningfulness for the time. However, it is a rather dated album and rather bland to listen to.
I understand it is a classic and I like the vibe for a song or two but not a good album to listen front to end.
Fun high energy album.
You know how it is when you hear a great song, but it’s just too short? Hit repeat and listen to it over and over. How many times have you thought “I wish this song was longer “? You get into that mood and you just want to keep carrying on. Well, it doesn’t work. This is 29 minutes of Blitzkrieg Bop. I thought it was the longest song ever and suddenly the album was over. Honestly, I like the Ramones one song at a time when I hear them on the radio. They have great energy and the songs are fun, but it’s really a case of heard one, heard them all.
