1001 Albums Summary

Jazz isn't really my thing but this is quite pleasant and chill. Apparently there was a lot of improvisation and very little rehearsal which makes it even more impressive that it sounds so nice. Flamenco sketches was the most laid back and I really liked it despite it being the only one from this album not in his ten most popular.

Easy listening. Basically every song would work well during a night talking with friends. The guy was in A Tribe Called Quest apparently.

Fairly good. Quite a variety of songs some much better than others.

Considering all I know U2 for is having one of their albums forced into every iTunes library and nobody liking that I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. Pretty damn good especially the first few songs.

Fairly good songs in this album. Don't think I've listened to any of them before, at least not actively. 'Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard' sounded familiar and was brilliant. 'Paranoia Blues' was surprisingly good.

'Top Jimmy' made me think this would be a fairly good album, 'Drop Dead Legs' put a swift end to that. 'Panama' is excellent and easily the best song on this album. I'm not actually a big fan of 'Jump', maybe I just think it's too long or overplayed. 'Hot for Teacher' could have been good if it was about something that isn't so damn cringe for 27-30 year olds to write. I don't think I've ever been excited about a guitar solo and they often feel a little unnecessary. This album is primarily guitar solos.

A little long but I must say I'm surprised by how enjoyable this was.

With a lot of these songs I feel so close to really enjoying them but some aspect of them is holding me back. Maybe this is something that will diminish with time and further listening. The Wikipedia articles I read about this album and it's loose influence, Philip K Dick, were very interesting. Cotton crown was probably my favourite.

'Workin Day and Night' might just be one of my favourites of his. I can't believe I'd never heard it before. Solid album all round.

The first three songs are really really good but it goes downhill a bit from there. No idea why it's on this list but I can't say I'm too upset that it is.

Nice album. Some really good songs on this one even though I don't really think country is my thing. Life in prison is a very strange song. Perhaps I'm missing something but it's just a guy feeling sad because he killed his wife??

Not as good as some of the other hip hop albums I've heard so far but still pretty good.

Take away the first song and you have an album that is 'fine' at best. It's crazy to me that the stones don't actually have a 'main' album and that all their hits are spread around.

'let's call the whole thing off' is annoying the hell out of me. It just keeps going. How did she find so many things to pronounce? Boring and too long but 1 star feels too harsh.

I know he's done a lot of Disney songs but god it's strange listening to this.

Wonderful stuff

I really wanted to like this more than I did. Some good songs on here, particularly 'closer'. The industrial sound might take some getting used to and the album felt like it dragged a bit. Hurt doesn't hold a candle to the cover by Johnny cash.

Perhaps a little generous.

First song is very papers please. Not a fan of 'pretty things', his voice sounds very whiney. Overall it's too long and whiney for my liking. 2 might be a bit harsh but oh well.

'One of those things' being just okay and how chill 'reminisce pt 2' was have narrowly saved this from being a 1. 'Listen to this' came in like a nasally jumpscare. How do you have a 12 minute song and still manage to make all the others feel too long. This could have very easily been a 1 and perhaps it still should be. 'the waltz' is 8 minutes long. Nevermind. This shit is a 1.

There are a few good songs on here but as a while the album is slow, boring, and too long.

Good album. Very interesting life. I think I prefer Femi kuti over this album but they should both be 4 stars. Although I apparently rated Femi kuti 3 at the time.

Fucking hell that was awful. Every single song felt like a slog in its own right, let alone the whole album. There was a bit that I quite liked and I wanted to know what song it was that had just started. I was 7 minutes in to a 12 minute song. 30 seconds later it was back to being crap. Skipped through feedback hoping to find some actual music at some point but no. No music. Awful. Should have given up after track 1.

I didn't like most of Buckingham's songs and it felt like nicks was doing a lot of the heavy lifting on this album. Would have probably been better if Buckingham hadn't contributed at all.

What possessed them to write a ballad to Israel? Only a couple of good bits in this album but nowhere near enough.

I was expecting something more for a band I had heard so much about. The album was strangely quiet and gave me Christmas vibes towards the end. The best song was the one that was the most different to the rest of the album.

Where's crab rave?

Of all the artists that have come up, I was the most surprised to see Justin Timberlake. The album was produced by the Neptunes with songs originally for Michael Jackson and you can really tell. That being said Justin Timberlake fucking sucks. Boring album with lifeless singing over the top. Made my train journey feel twice as long as it was. Dreadful stuff.

Some beastie boy songs are good on their own but this album doesn't have any of them and any more than 4 minutes of then in a row starts to get old. Lyrics aren't cleaver, voice is grating. I just don't think I really like the beastie boys.

I'd give it 4 if Iggy pop hadn't included his pedophilia anthem on this album. He was 30 when he wrote this.

A very interesting album which I must say I enjoyed more than the doors album I got yesterday. I'm not sure where exactly to place this as 3 feels low but 4 feels too high. I'm hindsight I was probably too harsh on the nine inch nails album and maybe that should have been a 4 and this a 3. N.W.O and Jesus Built my Hotrod are the best two songs on here.

Justice for Heidi

One of the greatest of all time

Really good album. Some of the covers are improvements, some just don't work here but still an incredible listen. Taking big iron out in the reissue it's criminal.
