Reviews (page 7 of 14)

Really cool, funky, upbeat, one or two songs just had rubbish lyrics, hence 1 star less

Good !

Fantastic energy. I’m fascinated by the “no guitar solos” approach with such a driving beat.

Hey! Ho! Let's go! Yeah, this album is awesome. Fast, frenetic beats. A guitar that never stops strumming. Sometimes that neverending guitar strum gets in the way of any real rhythm. Joey Ramone's vocals often sound like he's got cottonballs in his mouth and many of the songs' themes are a total mystery to me. "Beat on the Brat?" What brat? Who gives a shit, beat him with a baseball bat! Oh yeah! Oh yeah! Oh oh ooooh. Why did they write a song about CIA activities in Cuba? Who cares! I don't mind nonsensical songs that have a great beat. Punk is alive in this album. The amateur, garage band melodies feel authentic and fun. For years, I've been listening to a tribute album of Ramones songs made by bands like Metallica and U2, which I still prefer, but I did enjoy listening to the original stuff. This music has me tapping my foot and yelling "fuck ya!"

For decades I believed my Ramones Greatest Hits CD was all I really needed. I was wrong! Awesome album! Found some new Ramones favorites that I've never heard before.

Front door seat to the birth of punk

Classic.

Songs are short and catchy. Definitely see where grunge got their inspiration.

That punk asthetic... 2:40 of pure motion...

a favourite from my child hood

A pretty good punk album. This definitely set the stage for the faster, noisier punk that would follow. The lyrical themes are all over the places, from growing up to love to nonsensical. Punk doesn't need to make sense though, so no one begrudges them a bit of glue sniffing here or there. Overall, a fun, tight, noisy album.

Interesting it was originally rated low.

Costa Rica

Never listened to any of their actual albums before. Pretty much what I would’ve expected, and enjoyable!

There’s not much to say about this album because it’s the ramones, the lasting name in American punk and the entire concept of garage rock. Each song radiates teenage energy in the 70s with blitzkrieg bop still being the top track. It was also interesting to hear let’s dance on here because I only know that from the animal house soundtrack and can’t tell which one is the cover.

I can confess that I didn't have I had a lot of expectations, due to the music being seen as simple and without many variations between them I thought it would be tiring to listen to it, but Its dynamism and variations within possibilities were truly a surprise. For sure my favorite classic punk album

One gear, three chords. Is it the start of punk? That’s what everyone says but it’s not the best early punk but it’s a fun, harmless punk record.

I Don't Wanna Give This Rekkid A Bad Review. Not every song of the 14 is going to be as top shelf as Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Judy Is a Punk, but it's all good catchy punk rock all the way through to the end: Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World. An excellent rallying cry!

Fun but also boring? Don't hate me.

AJ: pop punk. Fast and dumb.

For 14 tracks Ramones bring an amazing rock punk album albeit some tracks end up blending together, my only real complaint

Love this! Love the Ramones. First 4 tracks are some of the best of their kind. But, as an album, probably a 4/5... it drags after the beginning. Rocket to Russia would probably be closer to a 4.5 for me.

I know and like most of these songs already, but I don't think I've ever listened to this album as a whole. Real good start to finish. The Ramones are super fun; they've never been one of my favorites, but this is still a solid 4/5.

Surprisingly never been a huge Ramones fan, always found them a little one-note, which I suppose is the appeal. I understand their importance to punk and appreciate how in and out the experience is, but I largely prefer what else was going on at CBGB or across the pond. C+, but I’ll make it a 4 for historical purposes.

As repetitive as I assumed it would be but who gives a fuck. This album rocks and it's good for running/exercising at a fast pace.

Perfect for the time.

Keywords- 70's rock, heavy crash, leather and cigarettes

At its best, there is some really fine, if not surprisingly sweet songwriting on this album. At its worst, it feels like a bunch of teens in their garage practicing for the “Battle of the Bands.” I appreciate the immediacy and brevity of the album, the fun and energy, and the punk rock attitude. “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” kind of turned things around for me, and made me start to hear them differently. There’s a surprising power pop aesthetic to some of these songs that I wasn’t expecting. So despite the amateurish quality to much of their sound, I think to some extent, that’s the appeal. It’s fun, quick, and undemanding. And that can be a good thing.

Classic punk album.

The whole album sounds like Blitzkrieg Bop and Judy is a Punk. If you’re in the mood for that, listen to this album. Fergus came running in with his rope, so he loves this album’s danceability.

What a legendary album! From the classic four chord progression and their heavy, driving rock beat, to their signature dress style, the Ramones gave birth to the punk rock scene. Their greatest hit, Blitzkrieg Bop, is a hugely popular song, instantly recognizable, and is highly enjoyable.

I always want the Ramones to go harder. Good album though, short and sweet. Never really saw them as a Punk band, but I suppose for most listeners “punk” is more a musical style than a social group association so it probably qualifies. They have a good sense of humor and you get that the early Ramones didn’t take themselves too seriously. The later Ramones did have to be THE RAMONES and I wonder if that limited their artistic range. This album absolutely defines The Ramones, for better or worse. Good job attacking the status quo!!!

Every song is the same but it’s a good song

This album is good It sounds very similar throughout the album but it’s good Top tracks: Blitzkrieg Bop, Havana Affair, Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World

3.5, Good solid album, very repetitive but enjoyable to blast through nonetheless. Another one of those where if you look in terms of significance of the album, has to be a 5/5, but shows its age quite severely nowadays.

3.75/5 - solid and classic album

Rating: 8/10 Great punk album. Very melodic and catchy, it's very fun to listen to this album. Not any variety at all though, very one-dimensional, the riffs all sound very similar. It's influence was clearly massive on punk rock and pop-punk. Favorite songs: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, Basement, Listen to My Heart. Least favorite song: Chain Saw.

The debut album by the Ramones; I must confess that I have never listened to this album in its entirety front-to-back but have probably heard most of the songs individually. It's an absolute classic, will probably have a hard time finding a reason to not give this one a 5. I wonder where it started that most punk/hardcore artists keep their songs under 2 minutes, cause it honestly works and I find most people are drawn to it; quick, electric, it comes and goes before you can fully process it, moving onto the next song just to do it to you again. So.... as a full album listen, the songs don't hit as hard or as fast as they do when they come on individually during random playlists. While I understand their historic presence, they just do not scratch the itch hard enough for me when in the mood for hard hitting music, so alas, I cannot give them a perfect score.

This is a lean, mean, bite-sized piece of punk. Catchy and concise. Music to crash your car to.

One of a kind and a bit of a laugh

So many of the songs sound the same. But they're all lovely.

Great, raw punk sound

This is a great album for what it represents. But when you really listen, so many of the songs sound exactly the same.

Sehr gut halt einfach was soll ich sagen

First things first, I understand how influential this is. Literally one of, if not, the first punk albums ever. The high energy and simple lyrics are an ok change of pace, and the 29 minute runtime makes this short and sweet. However, it was a tiny bit annoying at points and the tracks started to merge together. Good, but not GOOD.

Probably the only things more fun than this Ramones album is a couple of other Ramones albums.

punk rock raw sounding a bit repetetive but still catchy. like

14 tracks, 29:04 ... buckle up i think the Ramones exist best as a 2 minute interlude of distortion, affectation, and worst/best lyrics to enliven your evening, your soundtrack, your bar karaoke, your dance night. it didn't seem like even they had the attention span to finish the album. will continue to enjoy songs from this album individually, will probably never listen to the album in its entirety again. 4 stars nonetheless for "Judy is a Punk" and "Blitzkrieg Bop".

It was fun!!! I like a good fast-paced song that doesn’t overstay its welcome, and this album was full of those. THIS is the type of punk rock I like, not MC5 lol. some of those lyrics though… 😬

A prolific album and a lot of fun to listen to. Maybe a bit monotone at times but you have to appreciate the straight forward approach without it getting boring. This album will forever be a staple.

Perky, punchy, fun

1. Blitzkrieg Bop - Hellll yeahhhh a good song. A classic. 2. Beat on the Brat - Very catchy I like it! 3. Judy Is A Punk - 6/10 4. I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend - They repeat the same phrases over an over for a lot of these songs, I like it!! 5. Chain Saw - It's about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre? lol 6. Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue - This is funny as hell 7. I Don't Wanna Go Down To The Basement - Okay? 8. Loudmouth - Same beat as before? 9. Havana Affair - I love the lyrics 10. Listen To My Heart - 6/10 11. 53rd & 3rd - 6/10 12. Let's Dance - quite good 13. I Don't Wanna Walk Around with You - lol this is so funny 14. Today Your Love, Tomorrow the World - Straight Banger

Takes me back to Colony Manor, working on my kickflips and avoiding my roommates and homework.

This is a great album I mean the first song is legendary really nice to listen to this one i am definitelly saving

quite good, would relisten to this album

Don’t normally like punk but Ramones are good. First two songs are an ez 10. Alfa length.

bam bam album a lam bam

Blitzkrieg bop is indeed a bop Og punk Gave way for green day and all those angsty teen bands we liked growing up

It is one dimensional but I enjoyed it

This is real wholesome punk 😁

Classic, catchy, one of a kind, if not a little bit repetitive with a great but similar sound in every song

I wanted to give this 5 stars, but there's just a little bit of sameness here that made me detract one. But as far as bands that basically make the same song ad infinitum go? The Ramones are assuredly the best. Power chords and a ton of energy are the secret ingredients here, and the recipe goes down easy. It's near impossible to not have a good time when this is on. This album is an astounding debut.

Very cohesive, punk rock sound, couple of outstanding songs

Like the James Brown album, the youth in their voices was cool to hear.

Dark humour abounds with this punk album. Not heavy by today’s standards. A very fun listen!! Low 4

Fav: Judy is a Punk LF: Havana Affair Low to Mid 8

Such a classic

Fun fact : the running speed of the player hunter in Monster Hunter Generations follows the exact same tempo as the song "Now I wanna sniff some glue". Good stuff

Quintessential British punk rock. Each song sounds like the last. Simple chords with an electric wall of raw sound all in 4/4 time. It’s the feeling of confidently spitting in the face of authority.

Shout out Anthony Bourdain! 🍽️🍽️🍽️🍽️

They have such a signature sound and I can hear their influence in other artists I like. Most of the songs do tend to sound the same to me however. Rating: 4.0

Well I guess I asked for this when I said Americans didn't understand Punk and totally forgot that they (sort of) invented it with 60s garage rock. This is 60s garage rock sped up even though it sounds quite slow by more modern standards, I imagine it was shockingly fast in the mid 70s. It's not a bad album by any standard, but it's also not the holy grail that some people seem to think it is. It wasn't even slightly successful when it was first released, probably because it's actually a bit samey. I couldn't imagine picking a favourite song from this album, because they're all essentially the same as each other. I was kind of on the fence with this, but I found myself humming some of the songs all day, so I'm going for a 4 star rating.

Hard!! Ik kende blitzkrieg bop al en vond dat een heel gaaf nummer, blijkt dus dat heel het album in die style is. een beetje eentonig maar dat mag want het was een goede toon!!

I've heard this album before, and I'm aware of its reputation as one of the greatest, if not THE greatest punk rock album ever made. I would also consider myself a pretty big Ramones fan, and this isn't my favorite album of theirs. It's actually 'Leave Home'. I've never really understood why this one is the most popular, even after listening to it multiple times. However, for some reason, it definitely clicked a bit more this time. It doesn't surpass 'Leave Home' for me, but I think it passes up some of their other albums that I preferred. Gonna give it 4 stars. (And I fucking love Blitzkrieg Bop)

Starts fast and never lets up. Although the songs are short, they never seem to shortchange the listener, they are exactly as long as they need to be. 4/5 Would listen again

A fun sound, although they don't stray from their formula too much.

I'm a big fan of the shared riffs between the bass and guitar throughout the album, it not only feels very vindicating to get an album with the bass playing at the forefront, but it makes it so they're all catchy too. I'll admit every song here starts to sound the same, I wouldn't be surprised if they were all born from the same general idea, but the slight changes they make to each one pushes some songs to being really pumping tunes, like the opening credits to a really fast paced film. I just wish the singing on it fit the oomph of the rest of the instruments a bit more, as his voice can feel a little wimpy, like Ray Davies trying to sing how he sings on Village Green whilst performing You Really Got Me. Then again, someone else sang on this album at a point, and that voice sounded much worse, so maybe it's for the best? Album could've stood to be shorter, even at it's short runtime already (again, lots of repeats), but if you're in the right mood, the blood-pumping is good.

Звук грязный, противный, таким звуком очень быстро наедаешься. Но это настолько драйвово и бесшабашно, что я готов поставить 4.

A classique

The Sex Pistols gained more notoriety but Ramones are the OGs of punk. Since I’m a big fan of this era, it seems strange not giving it a 5 but bands like the Clash that were influenced by Ramones created much better music.

I enjoyed listening to the beginnings of punk, another genre I've neglected.

Energetic, buzzy, young pop-songs. Basically Buddy Holly and early Beatles played by long teenagers. Can hear the influence on the buzzcocks who I happen to love and the lyrics are stupid and charming.

This is hard to evaluate. At the same time, it is a timeless album and a very dated collection of songs. In 2023 I can't rate it with five stars, but its importance for the music history and my emotional link with some of these songs ensure the four stars without much effort.

The Start of punk. So may classics. Great album.

Punk a f.

intriguing, first listened to in middle school

Certainly doesn’t bore me

Classic. Maybe not all songs are of the highest quality, but it's chockfull of energy. Short and ast times messy songs. Here's the blueprint for Punk. Right here.

Love this album and the Ramones. Although it does run a bit dry after awhile. Just feels too repetitive at times.

this is a classic punk album with simple, solid, short tracks that holds up pretty well half a century later. a lot of these songs have been covered to hell and back so in some cases I'm more familiar with those versions. as a result, some of the tracks here feel a bit stripped-down and basic all these years later, but that might just be from changing sensibilities in popular music. good album though. favorites: havana affair, 53rd & 3rd, blitzkrieg bop, beat on the brat

4 because it's influential but I've tried so hard to like the Ramones and I just can't get past the guys voice

Enjoyable listen, very simple, every track is short but intense, there is no room for catch a breath.

A good punk rock album with a undeniable classic song on it!

ONE TWO THREE FOUR All I want to do now is play 3 chords and sniff some glue

I knew their biggest hits, but never listened to any of their albums before. Classic Punk Rock. Very cool, I hope they have other albums on this list.

Strong 4, classic

The Ramones only really have one song, but when the song is this good it’s all you need. A relentless blast of punk rock

Gotta love a record that comes in, gets you pumping for half an hour, and then just stops. But that half hour is joyful, reckless, and energetic - peak punk music if you ask me! Do the songs sound the same? Yeah sure, but why mess with a formula that works so well, right?

Kanske inget jag skulle lyssna på idag men det är grundpelare som influerat det jag lyssnar på idag - står mellan en trea och fyra men landar på

Cool punk record. Great hooks that have singing along in no time. Nothing all too special, fun songs and this was some of their most classic material! 7,5 out of 10

The original punk. It still holds up really well. how did they write something as good as blitzkrieg bop as their first song.

Nearly perfect

packs a punch !!

1. Blitzkrieg bop- recognised this one, very catchy, however i do find it a tad bit annoying 5/10 2. Beat on the brat- like the guitar, nice rhythm, however the lyrics were a bit confusing, nice vocals, liked when the beat got faster (liked the song) 6/10 3. Judy is a punk- favourite ramones song, very catchy, love the lyrics wish it was a bit longer though (added to playlist) 9/10 4. I wanna be your boyfriend- nice beat, loved the vocals, however was a bit slow, lyrics seemed a bit repetitive, loved the backing vocals. However got a bit bored after a while 4/10 5. Chain saw- annoying start with the chain saw effect, nice bass, nice vocals, nice guitar, i did enjoy this one (liked the song) 6.5/10 6. Now i wanna sniff some glue- lyrics were a bit annoying, loved the rhythm of this song though, kept it strong, bass was strong, however lyrics were very repetitive (liked the song) 6/10 7. I don’t wanna go down to the basement…- loved the bass, vocals were ok didnt like how he pronounced basement (lmao) i mean again bass was fucking smashing, and a good consistant rhythm (liked the song) 6/10 8. Loudmouth- nice rhythm, again smashing bass, vocals went well with the song, however lyrics were repetitive (liked the song) 6/10 9. Havana affair- loved the lyrics, nice bass, loved how the song got more “rock” feels cold war related with cuba problems loved the sound effect (liked the song) 6/10 10. Listen to my heart- vocals seemed off with this one, however nice beat and bass (liked the song) 6/10 11. 53rd & 3rd- not too keen on his vocals on this one, liked the lyrics there was a vocal turn which caught me off guard, does seem catchy- 5/10 12. Let’s dance- nice vocals, liked the drums on this one, liked the synths on this 4/10 13. I don’t wanna walk around with you- like the lyrics, backing vocals a bit annoying, seemed a bit repetitive however instrumentals were on point 4.5/10 14. Today your love tomorrow the world-loved how it followed off from last song, bass was beautiful, controversial lyrics i should say, it clearly follows the theme about nazi germany, like the rhythm of this song, 5/10 15. This album overall was good, his vocals are very unique, i think the whole album was consistent, however i felt that most songs sounded the same and the fact that none of the songs were over 3 mins long fav song- judy is a punk least fav- i wanna be your boyfriend 16. Overall album rating: 5.6/10

Fast, hard, angry and stupid - what a great album. Really a breath of fresh air when it came out. Used to see these guys live at CBGB when I was 16.

Great album loved it

Great album. Classic. But realistically not five stars

Really enjoyed this album. 4/5

Liked it!

Was okay but bit short

A quick and energetic rush of an album. Blitzkrieg Bop is as excellent now as the first time I heard it. However, for as energetic it is, the album never seems all that varied. Dare I say it all gets a bit repetitive? But it's a short album and doesn't overstay its welcome. All the songs were good though, just an album that's best scattered through a playlist. Favourite: Blitzkrieg Bop

Ramones… goat

Claaassic rock. And no, it’s not punk rock. Who’re you calling a punk?

Såå bra..

Quite a short listen. Good music, over too soon

Not listening too closely to The Ramones' self-titled debut is rewarding. For an album credited with pioneering a genre, it doesn't feel like a first attempt. It feels like a carefully crafted embodiment of years of genre-refining tinkering, much more like the most radio-friendly Green Day. It's weird to think about how similar in many ways 1976 and 2006 punk are. But then again, the Ramones may get too much credit for punk. Where is the line between the proto-punk of the MC5, New York Dolls, and Stooges becomes regular-punk? And don't listen to closely, or "The Ramones" loses some of its luster on account of lyrics too desperate to push boundaries and offend (see flirtations with Nazi imagery just to ruffle feathers) as well as song structures and chord progressions that make several songs sound near-identical.

Really a 3.75. Was missing something. Needed more drums.

Gotta love the Ramones. So much energy and just a fun irreverent vibe.

I’ve herd people say before (maybe on reddit) that the pistols were more of a boy band than a punk band but other than song lengths I think the ramones suit that more. They’ve got the kiss thing of looking cool, not being themselves and having good merch and they can be quite ‘soppy’ at points (see I wanna be your boyfriend). These qualities make me want to compare them more to one direction than the clash, but this album isn’t bad I don’t dislike super commercial punk rock but it shouldn’t be a ‘classic album’ in my opinion. 4/5

Leuk, maar zelfs in een half uur wordt het al snel eentonig. Heel erge uptempo chaotische punk. Maar omdat het zo kort is kan het nog wel. 4 sterren.

I'm really not a fan of the classic punk bands, but I do like the Ramones

I like the Ramones, not sure if I ever listened to a full album. The songs have what feels like the same vibe, tempo, sound so the album felt very repetitive. I can always get down with some Blitzkrieg Bop. 4 stars

Enjoyed that. Punchy and upbeat.

I liked this album way more than I thought I would. It was hard hitting and fun and ROCK the whole way through. It felt like "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" was out of place on this album, but the rest of it was great.

Very good

Good album.

lurve The Ramones. they got me into this sound. still my fav over the clash

Short and sweet classic punk. Some of the songs blend together a bit, but in this case that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Fast downstrummed 4 power chords, can't complain.

Classic

Very fun and upbeat punk rock, sounds rather poppy compared to a lot of other punk of the era. A bit repetitive, but overall still a fun listen.

Upbeat punk that's very similar to the English punk rock. The songs are really short and fly by and never overstay their welcome. It's very cheery and charming even though the lyrics doesn't reflect it.

I enjoy post punk and all it's Varients more than actual early punk. And 8 never really understood the whole Ramones thing. But this album has an energy that can't be denied. And it's impact is very apparent. This is a classic album. Not my fav, but deserves to be on this list in a way a lot of other albums in it do not. This is culturally significant.

Yes this album is repetitive but man is it fun. The band has such good energy throughout the whole thing and almost all of the songs hit. My biggest complaint though would be how short the songs were. I would’ve been fine if they made this ten minutes longer just to finish the rest of the songs and add a verse or two to them 8/10

Good music. High energy. Okay lyrics.

Catchy choruses

Used to hate on this shit but its actually pretty good Fuck Johnny Ramones fake punk ass tho

HEY HO LETS GO

A genre I haven't ventured far into. After my first listen, I felt fairly over the repetitive punk rock assault. My second listen was headed by a different attitude, accepting the genre and trying to listen through the ears of a fan of the genre. This led to a completely different listening experience. The often nonsensical songs became a nice distraction to life. If you are a fan of punk rock, I assume you have already listened to this album. If you don't know punk rock, I would recommend listening to the album more than once. It has already grown on me a lot, and I have a feeling it will continue to grow on me FAVORITE SONGS: - Blitzkrieg Bop - Beat on the Brat - I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend - Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue 3.75/5 (For now, but that may increase in future listens)

Like this more than I thought I would!

This is actually very elegant punk!

Technically too lame, but a genre-definitive lp with a ton of classic tunes

A classic that gets my blood pumping and makes me feel young again. This is such an influential punk album.

Klassiker. Men ett singel- eller liveband. Som album blir det lite jämntjockt. Och produktionen är i ärlighetens namn rätt tunn.

14 songs in 29 minutes! Lovely stuff. Incredibly fun, joyful, in your face stuff, if ultimately a little repetitive.

Good stuff. Got a few songs stuck in my head over the weekend.

Obviously one of the most iconic punk records, with huge influence on music that would follow and Blitzkrieg Bop is up there with the greatest punk songs, but personally feel the rest of the album is a bit samey and listening back in 2023 does just feel a little dated, a great album but just doesn’t tick my personal enjoyment box for the full 5 stars. But an album everyone should listen to, and a solid 4 stars.

As classic as an album as it gets. The genesis of punk rock. Super simple straightforward driving and catchy songs. It's instantly apparent how important this album is with how familiar it sounds and how ubiquitous music that sounds like it has been in the last 40 years. A true classic.

Okay, so I'm rating this a 4 simply because I think that they'll make me give up my NYC residence if I don't rate it favorably. It's hard to deny how influential they were, not just locally, but on American punk in general, but if I have to be perfectly honest, there are other things in the genre I like better. And CBGB's might've been an institution and have the awning in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and all, but it was a shithole club, lol. (The "true New Yorker" police are about to knock on my door any minute, I know it.)

Absolute bangers and only half an hour long. Great album.

Punk rock bb

I adore this album! A bunch of classics. Short and fun songs aplenty.

Classic punk album. Next best thing to the clash

Love the Ramones, this is where their best stuff is at too. Great tunes delivered with simplicity. Took me back!

Not much to it but it bangs along very nicely

Top 3 Songs: 1 - Blitzkrieg Bop (1) 2 - Judy Is A Punk (3) 3 - Havana Affair (10)

Yeah, this is pretty great

The Ramones are always a pleasure. Simple and pure punk. The opening three songs are classics and the rest of the album has a lot of good songs too. By the midsection, it starts to get repetitive. But how you can get mad at these guys? They rip through 14 songs in 29 minutes. Maybe they could have spent more time writing more varied music but then they probably wouldn’t have captured lightning in a bottle like they did here. Two details I loved on this album: - The way he pronounces the ‘r’ in massacre on “Chain Saw” (“massa-cree!”) - That heavy metal riff on “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue” at 0:34

"Blitzkrieg Bop" is probably one of the more famous punk songs of all time and is definitely one of the few songs I think of when I think of this era of "classic" punk. Ramones are great. The rest of the album is great but not nearly as catchy. I think the first 4 or 5 tracks are the strongest ones and it kind of falls out after that. Still a really solid record and a 4/5 for me.

Legendary group for a reason. Attitude can trump technical chops and they had more attitude than most bands that have ever taken the stage.

Tudo pra mim

Really noisy album. How punk was born. Blitzkrieg Bop - nice song.

Enjoyed it but some of the songs felt a bit repetitive. Only downloaded one from the album to my main library.

There’s something comforting about this album, like it brings me back to a time I wasn’t even alive in. The fun, free spirit, and roughness of it all- can’t say I’ve ever heard anything like it. Just dance, Havana affair, and of course blitzkrieg pop, stood out. Will def return to this one.

Iconic. A great punk album. This album was recorded for $7,600.

This is for you, Tony Bourdain. Favorite track (besides Blitzkrieg Bop): Listen to My Heart

Better than I expected.

Yes, it’s 29 minutes of the same thing but there are a ton of tunes on here.

Räminää! 4/5.

4.0 - I never understood the hype until now. Thanks to this list, I now feel like I have enough context to get why people like this record so much. Having endured a sample of some of the schlock coming out in the 70s - e.g. terrible prog rock (Emerson, Lake and Palmer), lame easy-listening (Eagles), boring disco (Chic) - I can see how the Ramones redeemed mainstream music for so many. It's elemental pop music delivered fast and loud. All of the elements work. It's also just fun and perfectly captures teenage joy and angst.

Great album! Classic

A.P. Bio was a good show, go watch it. 4

stupid fun

Love it. Sometimes it gets a bit formulaic, but it's a good formula!

Sjukt gode minner fra å være 14 og påtatt sint. Dette er GØY! Barnslig og naiv punk, som om The Hollies spilte hardt, haha.

Flows super well, but kinda short. Still solid. Miguel introduced me to beat on the brat.

Opens with the best punk song ever recorded. Before there was even punk. Love the second track as well. Truly and interesting band. Miss em.

un historico para el surgimiento del punk, inigualable e influencial para la epoca y posteriores blitzkrieg bop i wanna be your boyfriend havana affair let's dance 4.0

Probably one of the best punk albums I’ve heard Blitzkrieg bop amazing Love the energy and the tempo; short songs match the minimalist style thé ramones rest upon

First punk album!

Flott rokk en lögin keimlík.

Gotta say that most of the album sounds the same, one continuous song. Otherwise great classic rock.

Good album ! Some cladsic in it. Would listen again

Unlike the other punk bands of the mid-seventies, whose stripped-down aesthetic was born as a counter-expression to the self-indulgent trappings of prog-rock, the Ramones strike me as a group that just wanted to make the simplest and most straight forward musical expression they could. Whatever their motives, the album is beautifully concise in every way possible, and I think that gives it an appeal and an authenticity that has made it as influential as it has become. You can hear this album, feel this album when it's cranked, and then you can hop on your instrument of choice and start cranking out the same straight forward sounds. And if these four goofy looking dudes could make it happen, then so can you!

Punk! Punk! Let's Go! Unmistakable sound, pacing, lyrics, messaging. The Ramones, man. They are a genre themselves. Authentic punk - no pretense. That's all I have to say, and Judy is indeed a punk.

So much better than I expected. Even if it's pretty one-tone all the way through

1, 2, 3, 4!

Hey oh, let's go!

14 times the same songs, but still nice to hear.

Breakthrough and iconic album. All of the songs feel the same and that's perfect like it. Short and sweet. I can't say I'm a fan, but this record is engraved in music history forever.

really enjoy this, might have lost some of it's overall impact over the years. Classic but not the all time classic it's referred as.

Very classic stuff. It's clear how the Scott Pilgrim movie's soundtrack was inspired by this.

While Sex Pistols demonstrated the true attitude of punk, The Ramones showed the genre can produce timeless radio classics. This album probably had a more profound influence on culture and music than some top classic rock albums.

Primeiro álbum do Ramones, é legal mas para mim as músicas se parecem muito, passando a sensação que é a mesma sempre. Anyway, melhor música é a clássica Blitzkrieg bop e gostei tbm de I wanna be your boyfriend.

"Ah-one, two, three, four!" Four stars, then. If only for this. Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 867 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 74 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 32 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 28

A great one! No fooling around here. Just tight straight forward garage rock, with a freshing energy

Very enjoyable. Loved listening to 14 good songs in less than 30 minutes.

Classic good punk.

Classic Ramones

Chain saw was a bit jarring 🙃 Good to hear the rest of the album…

Unfamiliar with this aside from Blitzkreig Bop. It's a lot of fun, messy and juvenile fun. Highlights: Blitzkreig Bop, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue, Havana Affair.

A classic, of course, but I never really del the need to hear it these days.

I've always loved how catchy this album is.

There are many songs I love by the Ramones. A few on this album. What I really like is that they are almost caricatures of a punk band while still being a legit punk band. Exhibit one, the fact the short guy in the band is standing on his tiptoes in the photo.

Great melodies, driving beat, juvenile lyrics. What's not to love

it the ramones

The genesis of short fast loud

Boppy, rocky, tuneful punky goodness.

The strongest 4/5 so far - the vocals, the sounds, the short duration all combine to make this a truly great listening experience. Blitzkrieg Bop lives up to its name, a definite highlight

Imagine naming your band after a jacket ಠ_ಠ Jokes aside - a pleasurable experience. Ramones's a staple of punk and a trademark of the 70s. An energetic, magnetic album which hardly aged a day (despite being nearly 50 years old). Highlight (cliche): Blitzkrieg Bop

Ramones really are a four chord band, but what they lack in pure musicianship, they more than make up for in passion and exuberance. The music is stripped down to the bare bones rock and roll and while most of their songs sound like basically the same song, it's a good song.

IMMACULATE VIBES. Definitely would be an annoying album to listen to if you were in a bad mood. Luckily, today I am in a good mood and this has made it even better.

Lots of fun. Good upbeat rock

One, two, three, four! stars. Any album in the world sucks when it's sounded like a same song repeating, except this one. Short and punchy, totally a vibe!

I like the Ramones well enough and they have some good tunes, but they really seem to only have one sound. About halfway through it all just started blending into one song. They're really good at what they do, this would be great in a dancehall or to see live, lots of energy and punchy power-chords that they just keep hitting in every song. It's fun, what more can you ask?

29 minutes of pure bliss. More sixties pop than punk.

not that bad. thought i would like this less.

didn't finish all the way thru but luved it

drullufín

I enjoyed this. Haven't ever listened to a Ramones album in full

One note throughout, but if there were ever an album to forgive for it, it would be this one.

45 years on, the general consensus seems to be that the Ramones were the OG punks in their surliness, image, attitude and adolescent frustration. While many others paved the way for them, something about that cover photo and the opening bars of "Blitzkrieg Bop" just seems to usher in a new movement. By virtue of arriving on the scene slightly before many of their contemporaries, it makes sense that The Ramones could be painted as the missing link between the noisier, edgier punk that followed them and the rock and roll that the movement was returning to (there's something very 50's about these songs in their simplicity and brevity). "Blitzkrieg Bop" is irresistible- wherever you are in the world, shout out the words "Ay! Oh!" and the likelihood is you'll get a "LET'S GO!", all thanks to the high-octane opening here. It moves into the giddily violent "Beat on the Brat" and then to the morbid yet celebratory "Judy is a Punk", and doesn't even stop to pause for breath over the next half hour. On first hearing this album some years ago, my main criticism was how homogenised the songs are: the same churning riffs and power chords re-used in 90 second bursts. In almost every track, the bass sticks to root notes, following the same rhythm as the guitar's distorted power chords. The tempo rarely deviates from around 175 BPM, lyrics are often made up of two repeated lines, and most songs have no more than three chords. It's an easy criticism and still feels valid, but after repeated listens, the individual personalities and nuances of each song begin to stand out slightly. There's a 6/4 instrumental riff in "Havana Affair", for god's sake! There's a chain saw sound effect, there are handclaps here and extra chords thrown in there. Elsewhere (even though the band may have balked at the thought of selling out) there's bona-fide pop: "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" is straight-up bubblegum, with a bit of jangle under all that distortion. "53rd and 3rd" has a chorus in harmony which belies its the homophobic lyrical content. Across the whole album, there are some very sweet wordless backing vocals deployed to add some much needed textural variation from the guitars and bass. The melodies here are all catchy, memorable, made to appear effortless. There's a huge amount of skill involved to create an album so cohesive and relentlessly upbeat. Lyrically, though, the waters are a little murky: we range from what appear to be simple love songs to glue-sniffing, chainsaws, homophobia and misogyny, to an absurd turn into Nazism in the last track that somehow doesn't completely tarnish the record. At times it feels a little too laboured for shock value, to sell and to gather rebellious followers. The bottom line is, execute it in a bouncy and catchy way and package it in a breathless set of songs and most people will be swept along for the ride, unsure if everything they heard is "right" but certain that it was fun. For all its simplicity and recklessness, "Ramones" remains a high watermark in teenage abandon, oozing attitude from every pore. As punk goes, it's one of the real essentials.

Punk meets the Ronettes and Bay City Rollers. Gotta love it.

Ik noem dit bijna een perfect album, zo lekker rauw

Ramones are the embodiment of classic punk rock, and their debut album is no exception. Favorites: "Blitzkrieg Bop" (duh), "Beat on the Brat", "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue"

8/10 great

7/10. I liked how fast paced and quick the songs all were. Really fits together nicely.

Another album and artist I am glad I got to listen to more closely thanks to this list. Solid album. And it's clear why they are pioneers of punk. A little frenetic with their short songs but still enough time (and enough going on in each song) to appreciate their playing. They do often repeat the same formula, which is a shame, although it is a good formula. Love the sound they produce (and inspired), just wish there was a bit more variety to it.

Wild, brash punk rock. Good stuff

The vocals are a bit of a moaner’s sermon, but I did enjoy this. Especially the straightforward slapping drums. A must-hear for this genre

Practically plays like a greatest hits album. Love their relentless pace. Pure rock and roll fun. A winning formula. Produced really well with some nice subtle touches throughout. Joey was such a sweetheart.

Knew a few of these, but some interesting other songs that I never heard before. Definitely a fan of early/proto punk in general.

Greatest punk

Enjoyed Let’s Dance and Blitzkreig Bop, didn’t think it flowed that well, most songs are quite similar to each other but I don’t think I’d skip any if they came up on shuffle.

it is what it is innit. so distinctively the ramones that at times that translates to it being particularly samey. nice remasters though.

A punk icon. I could listen to the ramones for hours, very little wrong with this album for me. The definition of a 4/5 for me, would listen to again happily, but not every track is an absolute hit.

As I quote 'Beat on the brat' on a regular basis in my day-to-day life, I'm bumping my rating of this album by 1 star on top of what I'd actually rate it. I've always found the Ramones incredibly samey with their classic - I, IV, V chord progression. Don't think there's a single song on this album that doesn't follow it. While it does get old, the upside is that all their songs are quite short, and so the variety is there... somewhat. But MAN what party music. I want to be in a moshpit right nowwwww!

Now THIS is an album you expect to be on this list. Hearing this puts you back in the mid-70s and makes you picture how different this must have sounded at the time. Blitzkrieg Bop is the ultimate album opener and immediately establishes the high energy, upbeat, and fast tone of the entire record (it's hard to beat). Beat on the Brat stood out to me the most on the first listen outside of BB, and I was shocked to discover a cover of Let's Dance towards the end of an album (a song I have loved for a long time and could always picture a rock version in my head); however, there was not a single dud on this whole album which makes the entire thing a standout. I can totally picture the Ramones in a small, dark club powering through this set in 30 minutes and how wild the crowd reaction would have been. I'm not sure if/how they progressed after this album, but did they really need to? There is no doubt that they have influenced many of my favorite bands and that it will be remembered for a long time. 4.5/5. NOTE: while my reaction is really positive towards this record, I cannot give it a perfect score as one could argue that all of the songs sound the same. The only album I've given a 5 so far (Dark Side of the Moon) has a wide variety of tracks while also maintaining its cohesion. That impresses me more in terms of an album, but I still really enjoyed the Ramones.

Pretty great, actually

They made a whole album based on the theme from AP Bio and that song from Spiderman Homecoming

Second Listen. Great, classic songs. Classics: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat. Others: I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, 53rd and 3rd. Let's Dance, I Don't Wanna Walk Around. 4/5

I will start with an unnecessarily reductive comment about this album: it's the same song 14 times. 14 songs in under 30 minutes, using largely 3-4 power chords in a constant eigth note pace, two drum patterns (one for verse and one for chorus), and a few lines repeated over and over. Anyone who doesn't know their stuff would think this is boring and repetitive but, baby, you got a stew going. This is the birth of all my favorite genres. I'm familiar with many of the Ramones' hits and like them, but definitely had never heard this album. It was immediately clear to me that my Kia Forte's factory sound system was not the way it was meant to be experienced. The songs absolutely exuded energy that made me sad I never saw them at a club in the 70s, with the music blasting from amplifiers while a frenetic crowd bounces around and the band absolutely blasts through songs. What's simple on the album would have been groundbreaking in person. All-in-all, I was torn on whether I wanted to give it a 3 or a 4. There weren't really any standout songs, no real technical work, no inspiring lyrics. Just pure energy for 30 minutes. What really tipped it to a 4 for me was the fact that I constantly found myself bobbing my head and singing along (to songs I was hearing for the first time, thanks to the repetitive and simple lyrics). It wasn't mentally stimulating but it was still fun music that kept me pumped up for 30 minutes of my workday.

its ok

Short, sharp and to the point. The beginning of the punk genre. Can get a bit samey, but as a genre starter you can't fault it.

Really good. The lyrics knock this down from a 5 star. Can get mumbly and hard to understand. Guitar and drums are amazing.

Simple but good. Not sure why I like it, to be honest. Every song sounds exactly the same but I still found my head nodding and foot tapping at some point in just about every song. Got to give it to them even if I don't know what "it" is.

Classic album, classic sound, a couple of their best songs. Doesn't always work and the same tempo, 3 chords and singing gets repetitive by the end, but hard to find fault elsewhere. All bands should endeavour to reach this level of consistency, congruency and existential rigour.

Zo begin je een album. Meteen herkenbaar. De rest is wel wat vaak hetzelfde maar het is en blijf toch iconisch.

October 22, 2021 A fun listen!

Classic songs. Primitive production. Set the scene for the future.

Cortito, divertido, pegajoso, bailable, brincoteable.

It’s The Ramones. The perfectly packed punk punch of energy in an easily digestible and endlessly entertaining package. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s pretty damn close.

4.5 - love it musically. Strong, raw punk rock! The legacy and influence is unquestionable. Lyrically it is what it is by design, often simple and light. A handful of great songs but not consistent in quality despite being a short album and altogether the sound eventually gets redundant.

easy 4. probably a 4.5 but I can't get it to a 5 with how monotonous the vocals are (blasphemy, I know).

i actually really liked this album, i thought it was nice and short which is perfect. i liked the shortness of it because it wasn’t something that o had to drag out, but all the songs were really fun.

It gets a little samey after a while (like most punk) but the songs are that great that it doesn't really matter.

Though it can sound repetitive at times, it's a very impressive album that set a standard for the punk genre.

Great album

Yes boys

14 tracks coming in at under 30 minutes - this is what music is meant to be. Get in, blow them away, get out.

cheeky

Obviously dope but surprised listening to the whole album how similar a lot of the songs sound.

not my style, but respect

It's hard to imagine what Punk Rock would be without this album, probably the most important album in the entire genre

Short and punchy, sets the scene for mainstream punk

Atemporal

Iconic sound. Totally a vibe. Short simple songs.

One, two, three, four! stars. If you have a sensitive kindvibe soul like me, punk rock can be hit and miss. The Sex Pistols were a miss - too angry and seemed pointless. The Clash are amazing - creative and global. NOFX - I wish I loved them so I could share in the experience with Matt and Nick, but I think I missed my opportunity to bond with them after HS graduation. The Ramones have always connected. I think it's because they know their way around a tune. 60s pop songs in a punk costume. Driving catchy songs back to back to back to back in 30 minutes. Same BPM the whole time. I wanted to give this a 5 but don't want to seem like a poseur, because deep down I'm a softy, not a punk. A

Iconic. Simple. Perfect? First four songs are perfect. Everything after drains their energy a bit with repetition and less inventive harmonically. But still solid. Joey Ramone has has some great vocal styling. Led the way for other faves like Sex Pistols (boy band?), Misfits, etc. Also, many cameos in great film soundtracks. 4.

Fun album. They're good at what they do. Great start to the weekend.

classic

A classic album. Many songs have been featured in commercials, covered by a host of artists (I am partial to the rhcp cover of Havana affair) and been on guitar hero.

It’s a skill to make songs that all sound the same be compelling

Twisted sister mix

Punk masterpiece!

Pretty funny to think of how explosive, controversial, and offensive this was when it came out. Just a coupla boys having fun, sniffing glue, etc. This who album is hit after hit after hit. I'm constantly impressed by bands doing in their debut albums what it takes many other bands decades to achieve.

i really liked this. short and fun.

It's the Ramones, so obviously it's great. Classic.

imagine how this would have felt live at the time! total mania.

I'm suprised that I've never heard this album before (besides blitzkrieg bop). I can hear just how influential this album has been, to the point where I had a hard time believing this was from the 1970's, this album has a sound that's clearly been pervasively influential in punk music. The songs are short, catchy and melodically rich. Depsite being loud and upbeat the lyrics are somewhat somber and sarcastic, perfect for a punk album. I originally went and listened to the 2016 remaster and it sounded really wrong to me, the vocals are loud and upfront, drowning out the instrumentation, feeling completely seperate from it. I next listened to the original mix of the album and found that issue wasn't there. I don't know what they were thinking with the remaster, but if you want to have a good experience, listen to the original mix. Overall, this album is a timeless joy to listen to. Favorite track: Havana Affair Least favorite track: I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You

Simple yet effective. They are the most basic and stripped down version of "punk". They say what they need to say and then they're done. It's a good album of head-bopping, not needing to focus so hard on the lyrics or you'll miss the point rock. Even the instrumentals are simplistic. Some chords a drum beat and you're set. This is not the music to elicit some thought provoking journey into the human mind. It is what it is and doesn't try to be anything else or pretend it's some more. A good listen to drown out the surrounding noise and just focus on something else. This is what makes it so good.

Incredible

Nice short tracks

Classic

Fuck yeahhhhhh !!! Starting Monday and listening to Blitzkrieg Bop ! I mean Hey Hoe ! Put a guy with bangs and a leather jacket in my bed right now.
