mmm moyen
Lost my focus within 3 tracks, so I guess it's not very interesting. Probably giving it a two for I can endure this.
Blah 60s Rock
What did I just listen to? It was so generic it's already been forgotten.
While I can't say I'm surprised it ended up being another classic rock album you can imagine playing as a main soundtrack to any CSI show you care to name, I can safely I didn't expect it solely because of the band name, album title, and cover. The band name makes you think you're in for some old-timey folk you would imagine playing around a campfire near a log cabin built in the 17th century. And then you see the cover art and title and you think it's like some crooning ballads or even maybe opera that would echo through the halls of a castle in Transylvania. So you get excited you might hear some weird stuff And then you get playing and it's just The Who knockoffs, whoopee This album is like the equivalent of Candy Corn around Halloween time. You see it every year and how colorful and fun it looks, and you think "Maybe it's better than I remember!" And you take a bite of a single piece and it's just as bland and boring as it always is, even though you were hoping for something better
Like the beatles but dumber
We Gotta Get out of This Place). Otros discos de un excepcional 1966: Pet Sounds de The Beach Boys, THE BYRDS - Fifth dimension, River Deep - Mountain High de Ike & Tina Turner, THEM - Again, THE BEATLES - Revolver, THE ROLLING STONES - Aftermath, THE SONICS - Boom, LOVE - Love y Da Capo, THE TROGGS - From nowhere, JOHN MAYALL - Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton, SMALL FACES - Small Faces, BOB DYLAN - Blonde on blonde, JAMES BROWN - I got you, i feel good, SPENCER DAVIS GROUP - Second album, OTIS REDDING - Dictionary of Soul, BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD - Buffalo Springfield, 13th FLOOR ELEVATORS - The psychedelic sound, SIMON AND GARFUNKEL - Sounds of silence y Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme , PAUL BUTTERFIELD BLUES BAND - East wes, THE WHO - A Quick One (Happy Jack), THE SEEDS - The Seeds, LOS BRINCOS - Los Brincos, ), CREAM-Fresh Cream, THE ANIMALS-Animalism,The Mothers Of Invention con Freak Out!, Wild Is The Wind de Nina Simone, If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears de The Mamas And The Papas, Sunshine Superman de Donovan, The Monkees de The Monkees, Tim Buckley de Tim Buckley, The Exciting Wilson Pickett de Wilson Pickett, The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood de Lee Hazlewood, Daydream de The Lovin' Spoonful,Stevie Wonder - Up-Tight, The Supremes - I Hear a Symphony, The Lovin' Spoonful Hums of the Lovin' Spoonful,The Incredible String Band - The Incredible String Band, Would You Believe?, For certain because y Bus stop de The Hollies, You Got My Mind Messed Up de James Carr, Stevie Wonder- Down to Earth.
..
First song was pretty good and the rest was kinda blah
Not for me
The British are coming...to do this sound much better! I mean this was totally fine. I'm not mad at an American band from nearly 60 years ago making bland psychedelia music. It was a dime a dozen. What I really didn't care for on this album was the stylistic choices that seemed to clash. On one side, this is a Doors album; then we move over to Beach Boys. And none of the tracks have the same personality of a Morrison or Wilson. This one's meh, not in a hurry to revisit.
Firmly middling. I really wish I could give it a 2.5/5, but, I suppose I'll have to trust my gut here. There's some songs that have some catchy groove to them, but the rest just fall by the wayside. Vocals are nice, though.
This form of discount rolling stones/beach boys just feels dated. The sound is dry, the themes generic, and there is an obligatory song that would get you suspicious looks now.
This totally sounds like the era but it's almost like if you told AI to write an album based on the era. It feels very cliched. It's so inoffensive that it's kind of offensive to me? It felt kind of cheesy. I'm not totally sure what's going on with this one but I kind of just don't like it haha.
I've never really a fan of The Raiders. I've kind of felt like they were a bit cheesy and never really knew where they fit within early rock music. The music is fun and easy going. It's definitely a relic of that mid - late 60s pop rock. I think what's most obvious is that they're aggressively trying to sound better and different than the British bands that were all over the radio at the time and frankly, the British bands just did it better. Even when they try to get weird on "All I Need is You," it doesn't totally land. "Kicks" is fun and all together its fun, but I don't feel like its anything remarkable.
Not for me
What a great opening track and what a letdown afterwards. The album is only 29 minutes long, and still I had to fast forward in few places, because I just couldn't take it anymore. First song saves the day, otherwise a pretty bad record.
There’s Always Tomorrow and Stepping Stone are the 2 decent songs. The rest is forgettable.
Half Beach Boys, half Velvet Underground, but not as exciting as it sounds. Nothing stands out apart from one song where he describes the parts of a car?
Not great
I listened to this two days ago and forgot to rate it afterwards. I can’t remember a single thing about it. So it couldn’t have been awful. But certainly not something I’ll be returning to. 2/5
Fairly run of the mill 60's rock. This didn't stand out to me in any way. The Monkees version of Stepping Stone is better.
I'd never heard of these guys before. They sound okayish, pretty generic 60s pop. Not the best example of it by a long shot. Not Your Stepping Stone is a good song but besides that there's nothing I'd want to hear again. A harsh 2 but not good enough for a 3.
Not my favorite 60's act, but they are tolerable. Definitely trying to capture the style of other popular acts of the time.
beetje een mix van softe Kinks en Beach Boys... niet zo super
Kinda boring
I have to admit that these guys are a better band than I was giving them credit. (Probably had something to do with those stupid, gimmick outfits) If you like generic mid-60s music that was made from the same template as every other band of that era, then you'll like this album. Was it a good listen? Yes. Was there anything that made it stand out and made it memorable? No.
Something about this really grated on me. It doesn’t feel inspired.
Eka biisi on tosi hyvä. Kokonaisuus on tosi sekava. Ihan ok - mutta miksi on koottu just tällainen levy, mitä he haluavat sanoa?
Kunnianhimoinen 60-lukuporukka. Lupaavaa sinänsä, mutta levyllä on suvantonsa. 2,5
p91. 1966. 2 stars. Uninspiring Byrds and Monkees hybrid. Perfectly adequate without being the least bit essential.
I’m sure that if I was a 16 year old girl in the summer of 66 I would be swooning over Paul Revere and his Raiders. Unfortunately for Paul et al. I am a 33 year old man in 2024… not my vibe. Sorry chaps. Objectively good music, subjectively not there for me.
Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders is a classic rock album that, while undeniably energetic and catchy, shows its age in several areas. While tracks like "Kicks" and "Not Your Stepping Stone" remain iconic, others feel somewhat dated and lack the depth and complexity of later rock music. The band's strong musicianship and Mark Lindsay's powerful vocals are undeniable, but the album's overall sound and songwriting feel somewhat limited compared to more modern standards.
I once thought that Kicks was a good song. As I’ve grown older, and realized that Paul Revere & The Raiders were basically just the Monkees in revolutionary war costumes, my respect for them has greatly dwindled. This album did nothing to halt the deterioration of my perception of them.
There's always tomorrow
I was more excited about this album than I should have been. I remember listening to Kicks as a kids and thinking it was pretty great. But the rest of the album was just okay. They're like a poor man's Animals.
Of its time
Groovy. But more like a copy of British Invasion bands.
I was left pretty disappointed by this. It had all the makings of an album I expected to enjoy - a 60’s rock album that might be defined as hard rock or even alt rock. I really thought I’d dig this. But I just didn’t. It didn’t hit. There were songs that were cool and fun, but nothing I loved. The tone was all over the place. “Little Girl in the Fourth Row” - are you kidding? I know that, for some reason, pedophilia was considered at least somewhat acceptable in popular music at the time (“She was just seventeen/you what I mean”; “You’re sixteen, you’re beautiful, you’re mine”; “sweet little sixteen” - you get the idea), or maybe just referring to women as “little girls” was supposed to be a term of endearment. But goddam that song was creepy as hell by today’s standards. No thank you, bad touch. Beyond that one song, there’s some stuff to like here but I didn’t need to hear this before leaving this earth. Two stars. Standout Tracks: I’m Not Your Stepping Stone, Get It On, Shake It Up
This was fine. It’s not really breaking any new ground though. This was released in 1966, the same year as Pet Sounds. Now I know it’s not fair to compare it to Pet Sounds, that album was an outlier that was ahead of its time. However, compared to other bands output at the time, including The Beach Boys, but also The Beatles, The Mothers of Invention, and The Monks to name a few, this is pretty weak. This might’ve been noteworthy in say 1962, but there was a big leap in music in the proceeding years, and it seems Paul Revere and the Raiders got left in the dust. I’ll say even for 1962 this would’ve been a pretty average album.
Good sixties music but I’ll listen to the Kinks before them. Their version of stepping stone was great, though. The Monkees version is a pretty note for note copy. I had no idea.
A classic 60’s rock n’ roll album, Midnight Ride doesn’t run long and as a result, didn’t seem to have a lot going for it. While “I’m not your Stepping Stone” is a classic worthy of repeated play on all of the oldies stations, a song like “Melody for an Unknown Girl” was a very “meh” way to end the album. This album is worth listening to if only because it won’t take much time out of your day and it’s a little slice of that early era of real American rock n’ roll. But outside of “stepping stone” mentioned before, this also might be an album that’s okay to miss out on.
Dated, but not bad.
2/10
60s rock is perhaps my favorite, and this is good. The hits are classics, and everything else is mostly well down. The car songs attempt to chase the Beach Boys songs but come up short. I was surprised to hear they existed but not that I didn't know them.
Fun 60s album.
It's pop. It's old. It's like the Monkeys. It's not that bad.
The 60's - I guess you had to be there to understand. I wasn't, so I don't. 2/5
It was listenable. Not great. Not bad. Ok. Some reeeeally corny songs and some good ones. Mostly background.
This blows. another beatles/stones sound ripoff.
Garage rock vibes
Nah
little beach boys vibe
Nah
2.4 - certainly preferred to the psychedelic rock that was going on at the time but nothing particularly stood out good or bad for me
Well, a 60s band, reminds one of other 60s bands (I did not know the band before listening to this album) but doesn't add anything to what one has already heard.
I am surprised that hearing this album just did not hold my interest (like the Young Rascals did). The songs seemed redundant.
I have nothing against this, but I don’t think I’ll be listening to it again
Very nostalgic. But not very good.
Typical mid-sixties pre-hippy type pop music. Guitar sounds like The Hollies. A sort of hard-edged Monkees, but not hard enough to be rock. It's just pop and nothing memorable musically.
Kept trying to find reasons to give this one a higher rating. But just couldn't do it -- average and forgettable
It was fine but definitely had creeper man vibes. Nothing better than a lot of other stuff from this era.
I don't really get into this stuff, but its neat to hear all their influence sin the 60 years since.
Couple of good songs
Suomessa.. Ei Keskiöisin menty autoin.. mentiin jalkain.. yöjalkain yöllä..Jos kire oli... käytettii termiä yöjuoksu heh.. Aittoja ja saranoita rasvaten.. heh.. Poika Poika Poika.. Ei ääntäkään kuullut.. Käsitöitä katsomaan.. Onkohan Iinasta vaimo... Ei sopimattomia musiikkilempeilyjä...
It's ok. A little better than the hokey, silly pop but not by much. 2.5 rounded down.
"(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone” is OK. Definitely one of my mom’s favorites.
I am not really sure why this is on the list. It doesn't particularly seem popular or genre defining. This also reflects in the music, it is good, nothing makes me want to turn it off or skip (except for the song about a "little girl"). I did like it in fact I thought some songs were pretty good. But to be harsh in comparison to other albums on the list I think 2/5 is fair. Just a middle of the road 5/10. Stand out songs: Kicks There She Goes Get It On
60s jangle-pop that’s not half bad, but less hooks and choruses than I’d like.
Pretty generic uninspiring mid 60's pop music. Excellent use of organ and additional guitars to make more unique sounds and texture. Most choruses do not move me, and the verse lyrics remain hasten with the tempo of the songs. But, in a change of events the final 6 songs actually resonate really well with me. Warm beautiful melodies coupled with the 60's biting rock prowess. Thus I conclude: tons of filler.
I'd definitely heard some of these songs before and recognize the band's name. Although most of it has that 60s sound that I don't usually like, there are some good tracks here and there's a little more of an edge on some of these songs that I would not have guessed.
It’s not offending me but I felt like I was forgetting the songs as I was listening.
There were a few good songs with “Kicks” and “Melody for an Unknown Girl” my two favorites.
Fine
Everything from 1965 & 1966 sounds the same. The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, Paul Revere, The Beach Boys……they all had the same sound and same formula. Glad they all found drugs and a different path in the years to come. This wasn’t bad, but just more of the same from that era. 2.75
Liked songs: Kicks I'm Not Your Stepping Stone
forgettable 60s
good record. It just dont made me feel like I listened to something new or special. Good Songs on this Joint tho. I liked 2.5/5.0
Too all over the plce
Could be better, Could be worse
Decent . Was a 3 before the last song Can't say I'll ever listen to this again
The title is a reference to the Paul Revere Midnight ride during the independance war, wich the band took their name. The album seem to be a transition from their rock and roll garage sounfs to a more experimental and psychedelic sounds, like most and of the time. The album look like a mix between the Kinks and the monkees, especialy songs like kicks, ballad of a useless man and Get it on. I'm not your steppin stone was cover by the Monkees and its probaly one of their most famous songs My favorite songs are: There she goes, take a look at yourself and Kicks. Its funny how some songs title like Get it On and there she goes are tittle of others great song from T.Rex and the La'S i dont know if they drew inspirations from them. Anyway i would not say that its a bad album, but it is so unoriginal, like i dont have much to say like its far from being a great album, like i wasn't hooked by any of those songs. Like i understand how the band could have been ifluencial in early punk and alternative rock but i don't know not so much of a good album here.
Listened to “kicks” which was a Top 5 song at one point, but I’d definitely never heard it before. Make sense bc they’re from the 60s, don’t know if I know much from before that point. Felt pretty neutral toward the song. Lyrics were interesting.
2/5. Psychedelic rock/pop is hard to make stand out since that genre is usually monopolized by The Beatles in every year from 1964-70. So it's okay, singer does bring some heat that makes this unique but not too crazy to make it a good record. Not terrible just too familiar.
This one did not do it for me. I'm typically pretty generous on the 60s rock, there was a lot going on at the time and I respect the bands that were paving the way for what was to come. This one did not stand out though. I think it had three good songs, a bunch of mediocre songs, and two of the worst songs I've heard on here yet. Like what were they thinking with "Little Girl in the 4th Row" and "Melody for an Unknown Girl"? The former has just aged horribly, and the latter has a fine melody but the whispering about being for someone he loves but doesn't know yet was just weird. What saves this a bit for me is "Get It On", which doesn't seem to be a particularly popular song of theirs but I think is an incredibly fun one in the middle of the album. "Kicks" and "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" are both solid too. It's not enough to save the album rating, but at least I came away with a few songs that I'll listen to again. Favorite song: Get It On Other: Kicks, I'm Not Your Stepping Stone 12/20/23
It's not a cover album, but it feeeeeeels like a cover album. You know?
Thankfully this had Not Your Stepping Stone on it otherwise I’d have nothing to say.
It was okay, kinda typical 60s fare
Kind of meh... Just a standard 60's album. Nothing extreordinary.
Boring, plain, inoffensive, albeit a pleasant enough listen with some interesting bits here and there.
Pretty lame! A couple of nice tracks but on the whole the lyrical focus and general lack of inspiration outside of a sprinkle of weird flourishes had this one leaving very little impression. Fave track: There's Always Tomorrow
Some alright stuff, but generally feel like we’ve had better bands on this list recently doing the same stuff that I resonated more with. Two and a half. Fave track: There She Goes
This was pretty decent. A bit ahead of their time for this coming out in the 60s but aside from that there wasn’t much that impressive on the album. The songs were pretty typical rock and roll with some variance. None of the songs really impressed me. It felt like all of them have been heard by now. Maybe in the 60s this was a bit more impressive. 5.6/10
It’s nice. Makes me feel good. But it’s not catchy. Like the Beatles, but not catchy. So I’d rather listen to the Beatles.
Enjoyed track: Kicks, but then every track was so stylistically different from each other that I didn't enjoy listening as an album.
Pleasant 1960s pop rock. 'Little Girl in the 4th Row' is 'reflective of the attitudes of the time'. Rating: 2.5/5 Playlist track: Kicks Date listened: 12/11/23
Another day where I wasn’t really in the mood and this did nothing to grab my attention
Album #1000 offers a good representation of the overall experience here: an album my life would definitely be better off were I to not waste my time on it. Sure, it might have had some importance 60 years ago, but we’re talking about music and music should be fun.
any of these 60s bands could have become as big as the beatles but none of them developed from this. stepping stone is beast though.
1003rd album and I'm running on empty
Good pop-rock album, but nothing extraordinary.
I couldn't really get a foot tap to any of the songs. All perfectly fine but nothing that wanted me to explore the catalogue any more.
Not sure what to make of this. It is what it is and sort of nothing special. Why is it even here?
It had a good groove to it. Nothing that wowed me
Kicks is instantly recognizable. Otherwise underwhelming
Estuvo ok, aunque aún no sé por qué está aquí
This really flew by without me even realizing. I was pretty bored listening to it and it just didn't do much for me. I feel like I'm being generous giving it a 2/5 because it might be an OK album but in the context of "greatest albums of all time" it should probably be towards the bottom if it even deserves to be on the list. It's the definition of straightforward classic rock but without any standout features that make the genre great- like great vocals, songwriting and guitar playing. It didn't really have any of that..
It was fine. Generic 60s sound.
its the Beatles but boring
För tråkigt
Good to hear Stepping Stone, but nothing else elevates over other 60s garage rock/pop.
Ja
Eh it's ok nothing special. Sounds all do sound pretty different which is cool I guess.
229 Midnight Ride - Paul Revere & The Raiders Please indulge a lack of concision here. We like music from what Springsteen so aptly named our “Glory Days”. And so, it’s hard to break through that. Its highly personal idiosyncratic and down to taste mostly, or so we think. But if we’re honest and informed about the neuroscience and genetics of our programmed preferences – what we like is also a product of time and environment but is largely beyond our own free will and volition. We like and dislike stuff based on criteria that are largely set for us, not by us. And one of those is familiarity and repetition. Or the known formulae for catchy, and the earworm… And the attention we have given it, the memories associated it with; the film, party, personal or relationship (real or imagined), a special place and time. Or maybe it’s something you find very danceable…. Where is the DANCEABLE music? This list was not, I hypothesize again, made with much input from dancers. Or women. You can tell. It’s a list overweight with introspective, male oriented, sitting on the bean-bag listening guitar rock, experimental, and psychedelic in a U.K. and US 60’s -70s stuff And then there are masterpieces. Which brings me to his album, and its about time I do. The (3) times I listened to this album... and each time it played though without any track truly grabbing me. Oddly, its the 1960s stuff that came on next due to "auto play" on my streaming services, fed by algorithm , that I liked. Every bloody time. Just when I thought, “oh I like this one, what is it?” “I'm not your stepping stone” is ok – but that was familiar because of the Monkeys’s version. So does it count? Its hard to like unfamiliar music. And unless you really have an interest in 1960's music or styles, or good memories linked to it, its risky - its hard to break through and inform our taste anew with an unknown album. And 1960s stuff is going to sound quaint and slow. So this album didn't jump out at me. I don’t dislike the band. This album does nothing special for me. So why is it hear? "Baby Please don’t go"" is not on this album NOTE TO SELF - CONCLUSION / THOUGHT - I am adding this one to the pile to be labelled "Textbook stuff", yes it was part of my musical education and broadening of repertoire. I can now name a band I was COMPLETELY ignorant of.,. I've heard the style and heard their experiments now. Tick that box. And I tried really hard to ‘get’ it. But this album, just ticks the box of making progress on the 1001 list goal. I could regret slowing down and spending hours exploring this slightly featureless flatspot of an album that presses no particular buttons for me, but you now what? I learned: 1. If its not working, after a 2nd glance SKIP the album. As an antidote, listen to a few hits from the decade. there is plenty to like in the 60’s - atime of Singles. Get the taste out… 2. There is work involved to sift and find gold and new discoveries. But it sticks out when you find if. Trust your instant reactions. While it failed to move me.. in a way THIS ALBUM HAS SOMETHIGN FOR EVERYONE. "get it on" soulful on the Hammond Organ (or send up of square culture?) "SHAKE IT UP" . could be called "pretend at home" its background music to a 70's film with a house party - except the sound of people talking in the background has been added in. "Little girl in the 4th row" - it is creepy, is it a lullaby? Is it just trying way too hard, and from an era where it seemed oddly sweet to serenade a fan so shamelessly and exploitatively ? Likewise, "melody for an unknown girl" is like an awkward musician writes a musical Personal's Ad which is innocent and hopeful, but also irksome, obvious, and immature and I dont want to be rude. So I will stop. SS396 – oh boy! a song about a car (Chevrolet Chevelle) it sounds like advertising. An interesting archaeological artefact from a more innocent time when popular music and productions were less polished, hyper aware of criticism and varnished into something indistinct. Its doesn't stand up well today. Remove from list…
I never heard Paul Revere & The Raiders on local radio when I was in my teens. They never ever charted on the 2UE Top 40 (I just checked). (Eventually their lead vocalist, Mark Lindsay, had a Top3 hit here in 1970). But I did see them quite often on American pop music shows that were televised here. They were almost regarded as a novelty act because of the uniforms they performed in. They most famously had a regional hit with Louie Louie in 1963, before The Kingsmen had the worldwide hit later that year. Both versions were recorded in the same studio, a week apart, & The Kingsmen recorded it first. Midnight Ride was their 5th album, released in 1966 & produced by Terry Melcher, very much the go-to producer on the west coast, having produced the first 2 Byrds albums the year before (also an associate of The Beachboys & eventually a target of Charles Manson). You can hear The Byrds influence on some of these tracks ( listen to There’s Always Tomorrow). However the 2 most interesting cuts on the album are Kicks & (I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone. Kicks was an anti-drug song, co-written by the very recently deceased Brill legend, Cynthia Weill & offered to The Animals, who knocked it back. So The Raiders recorded it first, although it was recorded by many artists in the 60’s & is still being covered. Their version is fine, the jangly guitars reminiscent of The Byrds &, notably, the drummer on this is the Wrecking Crew legend, Hal Blaine - the only track he was called in for. I first heard Stepping Stone in early 1967 - it was the flipside of The Monkees’ smash hit, I’m A Believer, & got considerable radio play at the time. But the only Monkee on the track was Mickey Dolenz, & his vocal is terrific. Once again, some of the Wrecking Crew were called in to play the instruments. The Monkees version is similar to The Raiders’, but Dolenz’s vocal is far superior. (Ten years later, The Sex Pistols version was released on TheGreat Rock’N’Roll Swindle album). The Raiders’ album ends with the corny Melody For An Unknown Girl - spoken word over an orchestral backing - so reminiscent of Davy Jones’s Theme For A New Love, a flop in 1965, but reached #4 on the 2UE Top 40 in 1967 on the back of Monkeemania. Midnight Ride is interesting at best, but not a great record.
Kicks and (I'm not your) Steppin' stone are fun tracks and the rest is forgettable.
Man this did not age well
Standard 60s fare
Nothing special, standard 60's beat combo sounds.
So benign. Would be one star, if not for I'm not Your Stepping Stone, which in turn would be great if not for the band who wrote it changing their name to Liverpool 5, to cash in on Beatlemania. They weren't from Liverpool.
A fine, generic garage rock album. Really not very notable in the slightest, though ‘I’m Not Your Stepping Stone’ is at least pretty good. ‘Melody For An Unknown Girl’ pisses me off. ‘There are no words’ vuvtx GB be am CB I’llc C c I’mcycyf T- but you’re talking RIGHT NOW! (the gibberish was anger sounds i guess) I don’t care about it, but I’d listen to over, I don’t know, dying? Okay that’s a bit far. also this was the last day of school nice
Did not enjoy very much
I stoped listening halfway because it is very long and it didn't meet my interests.
meh
Generic 60s boop bop rock
decent rock album
Huh? 3/10
Meh. 2/5
Psiiiiah
Not terrible, but kinda lame.
Mostly lame as fuck. Uninspiring overall. Might be just a few years ahead of it's time because it's like they are almost getting to a good groove.
Never heard of these before. If I was explaining them to someone who’d never heard of them before, I’d just say ‘1960s pop/rock’. Canny enough, do very well as a US Kinks / Beatles type band. Not enough to keep me bothered though
Is it just me or was every other song about a car
There is a small mercy in the speed that they whip through each song. But that is also part of the problem, seemed like they just wanted to pump some tracks out, nothing much of substance to be found.
More 60s pop. Exactly like the other ten thousand 60s pop albums on this list. Fucking wow. 2/5.
The only song here that I really enjoyed was Stepping Stone and that was actually written by Boyce and Hart who were the songwriters for the Monkees. The rest of the album was fairly unremarkable 60s pop.
All I Really Need Is You was the only real highlight here, everything else was very generic and underwhelming. I also hate the 60s trend of speaking to the audience over the final track, on this song especially it's just aggressively cringe
A rather mixed bag of an album. I loved the garagey uptempo tunes - especially Stepping Stone, which I have loved since I heard the Pistols version all those years ago. And the keyboard driven songs work well. But the mix of styles here got a bit disorienting after a while, and some of these tracks were very of their time. May give it another listen at some point.
This plodded with some very pedestrian chord changes. The only comfort was the Johnny Cash two chord bass. Stepping Stone came close to rescuing it. But it's one of those rare occasions when so many other covers are better than the original. Definitely of its time, not for me.
cool story, dad
Beatles influenced for sure. Guitar riffs are completely Harrison inspired, especially the Ticket to Ride-esque, Kicks. Then it devolves into a Beach Boys-ish sound, especially with Little Girl in the 4th Row. Inspiration is in the right place, and the band jives well, but organ chords and derivative songs aren't ingredients in the recipe for greatness to me. Stand out track is I'm Not Your Stepping Stone. I think this is the closest they come to pushing some boundaries. That song really hits. Also, I'm pretty sure the guitar filler in "There She Goes" is identical to the one in "Take a Look at Yourself," by the end they are ripping off themselves!
Just overall boring
I had trouble figuring out what kind of band this was. Which is probably fair given that the band themselves didn't know what kind of band they were. The tracks jump back and forth from genre to genre like the frog in Frogger dodging traffic. And, just like that frog, most of these attempts didn't quite manage to make it across the road.
Alright
2.5
Nothing spectacular about it...generic 60's rock pop. Meh. 1.5/5
Basic bitch 60-tallsshit
Un poco repetitivo. Las canciones lentas son un poco de tortura. Kicks es la mejor del disco. 2.5 que no puedo subir a 3 porque en general no me atrapó.
This album has some good songs but nothing special
Very dated 60's garage rock. No my thing but could see why this stands above similar bands - some good hooks and deviations in the songwriting.
This is blue-eyed something-or-other, not overdone which is a mercy. One of those projects that balances pop with sonic stretches, not so long here, just enough for a half hour.
Mediocre garage pop.
Letkeää ja suoraviivaista useampi biisi autoista :D ei kuitenkaan maailman kiinnostavinta, 2/5
Fun sixties album, but nothing it stands out. It is not a must listen to record.
If '60s rock is a class then this album is that one kid who nobody remembers after graduation. PS. Is it just me or are '60s singers a bit too fond on calling women "little girls"? I guess it's another '60s feature that got mixed in this generic album.
A LOT of filler
I don't know if they are british since their name and discography heavily implies American roots, they certainly feel british. I just googled and they are from Boise Idaho. Regardless, this shouldn't be on the list. One more "rock pop" band banging tambourines and keeping their keel as even as possible is not something to be honored on this list. I can almost guarantee the real Paul Revere was much more interesting and I pray that this midnight ride does not indicate that the british are coming in our next albums this week.
First listen. I really like Melody for an Unknown Girl. Other than that, pretty forgettable. 2/5
My first exposure to music came probably before I could walk as my parents had one of those massive 8000lb stereo consoles - about 7 feet wide, speakers embedded, turntable AND... an 8-track player. Worst music format ever? Some songs would be playing and *CLICK!* right in the middle of a damn song... more of a pause....then another *CLICK* and the song would continue. Apparently it could only play a few minutes (10 maybe?) at a time before clicking to the next "track" - brutal. This long annoying intro is only to state that one of the 8 tracks my dad had was a Paul Revere & The Raiders album. Funny how the band was apparently quite big in the late 60s/early 70s but you never hear of them now. I never really gravitated towards them; I was more into the CSN but I suppose one could do worse for late 60s rock. "Kicks" and "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" are the hits, and I'd be fine hearing another song or two but in the end I'm still not getting a lot out of this - the simple twangy music is just not my bag. I did find the 180-turn funny that just yesterday a live ELP album was the album of the day...just a little different. 4/10 2 stars.
Taustalla soi ja ei oikein millään tavalla jäänyt mieleen.
Viihdyttävää, mut ei maata mullistavaa. Kyllä se sen kirjan vaatis, että lukis näistä miks löytyy listalta
Ok. 5/10
Pure 60s pop. Very much forgettable, so-called "hit song" "kicks" is super weak sauce considering what else was coming out at the time. This is like the Maroon 5 of today, popular but irrelevant long term.
"4 speed tranny" *sniggers*. 60s pop with harmonies and Hammond Organ. It is incredibly unlikely I will ever listen to this again
Weird 60z rock
Nice but nothing to write home about
Haha these are the anti-drug losers. "Kicks" sounds ok, nothing great, but it's just an anti-drug message written by producers for the public to nod in approval. Lame. The Monkees did "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone" better. A generic 60s album that sounds like they're copying the top pop rock and garage rock bands of the era, like The Sonics and The Kinks. Bad songwriting, but there is diversity in the tracks, and only a little more than half of them sound truly awful. I really liked their "Indian Reservation" song from several years later, but not much else.
Took me a while to get into it but eventually I zoned out and made do through 1.8
Bluesy rock from the 60s. Sounds at times like The Beatles, Doors, Beach Boys, Animals..... super unoffensive, moderately enjoyable.
Little Girl in the 4th row, cringe! E' un 2.5 che non mi sento di promuovere a 3 (devo ammettere che la batteria pannata quasi hard left ha contribuito).
Some pretty good 60's songs mixed with some pretty mediocre 60's songs. This is punctuated with the strange smooth jazz instrumental with a spoken word piece in the beginning and end about some random girl. Weird.
Just not really my thing. Dated and not particularly good. 4/10.
I'm more familiar with the Beach Boys, and maybe that's why, but this album seems like a Beach Boys knock-off, down to the "car" songs. I dug it, but all I could think of was this was like K-Mart Beach Boys. Nothing wrong with that, but not exactly sure why this album is included in the list. 2.5/5.
When aliens arrived on planet earth in 1965, they listened to the top forty and thought, yeah we could have a crack at that. And that ladies and gentlemen is how Paul Revere and the Raiders were formed. A band so devoid of originality but what do you expect from an algorithm from outer space.
nope
Not terrible, but also not that enjoyable
N/a
Displayed some themes that other bands would build on later but despite that this album didn’t do much for me on its own. Repetitive melodies and trite lyrics.
ehhhh
Kinda boomer-y, like the kinds of songs my uncle has been jamming and singing to himself for 20 years. Not terrible though.
I’ve heard the Beatles. I don’t need another one.
I've got a horse right here / his name is Paul Revere / and he's amply supported by The Raiiiiiiiders / They're gonna sing some songs / in as many 60s styles as possible / and some of them are going to be fiiiiiiiiiine.
Only listened to "I'm Not Your Stepping Stone". I didn't like it but I like the singer's voice
It was ok, and I learnt a little bit about 18th century American history.
Melody for an unknown girl ruined this for me. Solid 3 star except for this song.
Not to be revered
Mid-sixties pop. How were groups like this meant to keep up with The Beatles and Bob Dylan at this point? They couldn't so the produced bog standard stuff like this. BT: Kicks, (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone, Louie Go Home
Meh.
Generic 60's pop rock. I love/hate how often they committed to the Paul Revere/minutemen costumes in performances and other promos tho.
Beach boys vibes, without the fun. 60s vaguely psychedelic pop/rock. Not my jam.
ok.. niente di che
nah
They're known for their covers, and their covers are ass.
1 if by lame, 2 if by see me dump this record in the harbor.
This album would have made me a loyalist. Anyway, happy July 4th.
This is terrible. Derivative (even for 1966) and bland. White folks were driven to this nonsense in the mid-60s because the true artists of the day weren't played on radio or sold in record stores. What excuse could there possibly be for continuing to lionize this cynical hokum in 2026??
An ok album
1. kickz - 1 2. tomorrouu - 1 3. girl - 2 4.man - 1 5. ztone - 2 6. goez - 1 7. Need - 1 8. Get - 2 9. Louie -1 10. Look - 0 11. Girl - 2 12. Shake - 1 13. Row - 2 14. 396 - 1 15. Baby - 1
Very well of an era
A completely unnecessary album on the list. Nothing on here was worthy of listening to, and the whole thing was forgettable. It's a bunch of love songs, a boring instrumental, and a couple of car songs. gimme a break. My Rating: 0/5
Kicks (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone
you really gonna give it to this one over any Weezer album Will I listen to again: 0%
Yy
ein weiteres album aus den 60ern, dass es heute nicht mehr braucht. und damals vielleicht auch nicht?
Alter Sound, nicht meines
Lyrics are obnoxious but instrumentation is OK. Pretty bland in general. Listened to only the first few tracks in full and previewed the rest.
I could not finish this. It's so bland and generic 60s that it's unbelievable.
How'd this end up here?
At first listen I thought this was pretty decent but the more I came back to it the more it bored me. An album of iconic sounds from iconic bands that never meets the quality of what it's copying. The band are absolute masters of saying absolutely nothing with their lyrics. Vague, meaningless rubbish that's so general it's impossible to feel a connection to what's being said. Just because an album is influential, doesn't mean it's good.
Annoying
Top track: I'm Not Your Stepping Stone
Not going with this one. The opening song Kicks is the only one that slightly holds up due to some nostalgia. The rest of this album showcases mediocre talent and a lead singer who can't hold a note. Does not belong on any lists of great albums.
L Songs 1-4 Stepping Stone is Aight Very boring for me 😴😴😴
Idk, nothing special to me. I hate songs about cars.
Nothing particularly sticky about this album. It is fun, but probably should not have made this list
I don't care if you wrote the passable Steppin' Stone. You wrote Melody for an Unknown Girl. There is no redemption from that abortion of a song.
I’m not even 200 albums into this list and I've come to realise that ‘influential’ on the list just means ‘had a hit’ or ‘had a song written by someone who had a hit’ or ‘appeared on tv or video’. Another generic 60s-sounding band with lots of little nuthin’ much tracks. Pass
Knew this album, it’s okay but not my favorite
Do I give this more than one star because it has "Stepping Stone"? No, I do not.
This has not aged well
This was pretty bad, very 60s boys bandy, many creepy lyrics about little girls, didn't really enjoy any of the songs.
Very brave to put "Little Girl" so early on. I almost didn't make it any further. I would bet I'm not alone in that aspect. If I HAD turned it off I would have missed out on such hits as the SECOND version of Little Girl - this time con espana! Mierda !
Pretty boring.
Not even remotely into this album. Has the 60’s organ, but they aren’t The Who or The Doors
This is what I hate about pop music.
1.5 Didnt write their own songs. Wore dumb costumes. Others did it better
Boring 60’s rock. Best song is stepping stone. I can’t believe he has the spoken word part of “melody for an unknown girl” twice. I did not need to listen to this album 1
Really didn’t enjoy this. Theres always tomorrow might be the worst guitar solo of all time. There were tolerable moments but I hated most of it. 1.4

I wasn’t impressed. I saw them in Chicago when I was a young teen. Didn’t care for them then either
Pff, wat een slaapverwekkende zeikmuziek.
Alter und langweiliger Sound. Simpel konstruierte Songs.
Nothing great.
Not for me.
Least fav: Little girl in the 4th row/ss396 Fav: there she goes Cool
So long ago, so dated, so much ear bleeding.
I find it amusing that a band with a name linked to Paul Revere and dressed like American revolutionaries would be cashing in on the British Invasion. When I started listening my gut reaction was “Kicks” is a great song, and oh, so is “Stepping Stone”. But those are Brill Building songs and it was The Monkees (due to marketing dollars, maybe), not these guys, who made the latter a hit. The Raiders’ original compositions have few redeeming qualities, the ballads with “Girl” in the title brought my score from a 2 to a 1.
What an odd collection of songs…can’t tell what this band wants to sound like because they’ve replicated all the styles of their day.
Pure bubblegum pop. Which is fine, I guess. But most of it doesn't really move you the way it did in the 60s. There's more than a little Beach Boys influence here. But the Beach Boys definitely do it better. I guess this KINDA makes sense if you think of this list as 1001 historically significant albums. But not 1001 of the best albums. Because this isn't it.
why is this here
cheese
Total bubble gum bullshit. I didn't like them in the 0's, still don't.
Never heard of it before today. not surprised. wont be returning to it.
Disco mediocre, puro filler. Sin embargo, Kicks, There's Always Tomorrow, Louie, Go Home y Stepping Stone son clásicos del garage y la verga.
Nein
borrrrringgggg
How many songs can you write about cars. Paul Revere Dick was the founding fathers' favorite pick-up line, right after "the Brits aren't the only ones who will be coming"
