Disintegration
The CureA true masterpiece from the 80s. Sounds nothing like anything else that was going on then.
A true masterpiece from the 80s. Sounds nothing like anything else that was going on then.
Rip roaring rocker! I forgot how talented these musicians were. Each song just pushes the boundaries in showmanship.
Such an innovative album.
Kinda boring generic 70s folk. Could have been a Joni Mitchell album. Love and affection was the stand out track
Great classic 60s blues based rock album. Janis’s voice is definitely unique and you either love it or hate it.
Album starts out a bit slow. Sting’s voice just doesn’t do it for me. Luckily Stuart Copeland’s drumming is amazing. Bring on the night is a great pop song. Wonder if it was ever released as a single. The bed is too big without you, classic track with a reggae feel. Another album that has gotten better as you get further.
Such an integral album in the evolution of music. A lot of people say this is the birth of grunge but I view it more as a pop album with punk aesthetics. From the opener “Smells like teen spirit” to the slow closer “something in the way, “ this album fills every box. Territorial pissings is the most underrated song on the album. Essential listening to anyone wanting to under the toils of Gen X.
Great folk songwriting. The organ parts really make this album sing. Much more electric sounding than other Bob Dylan albums. Good album but not the best I have heard of Dylan. Leopard skin pill box hat is the stand out track along with Visions of Johanna
From the first note to the last note, this album is a sonic masterpiece. With illusions of nightmares and dreamscapes, this album left me awestruck. I like me some Black Sabbath but have only really listened to it sporadically. Songs 1-9, not a weak moment. Every note is so deliberate and comes with so much energy. All instruments are played masterfully including Ozzy’s vocals. The drum fills take it to another level with bass pushing the rhythm forward. The lead guitar dances all over the tracks. Planet Caravan is a dark horse for best song on the album.
Beautifully written songs and excellent harmonies. There are some stand out tracks on this album like "America" and "Mrs. Robinson" being the most well know. The production is a little too slick and the inclusion of strange interludes and sound tricks is a bit of a turn off. Overall, though, pretty good all album.
Powerful opening track. I didn’t really ever listen to how great of a voice Beyoncé has. Drunk in love is ok but Jay-z almost ruins it all with dumb lines like “I have your breasts for breakfast.” Luckily “Blow” is a banger of a Prince track. Album starts dragging a little bit until a gem of a pop song “Jealous”. “Rocket” could be a lost song from D’angelo’s “Voodoo” (probably because that is where the sample is from. "Heaven" is a beautiful piano ballad and I loved the "Flawless with Nicki Minaj" remix better than the original. A bit up an up and down album but she does have a wonderful sound.
Not to many exciting notes. “Ageispolis” is pretty good. “Green Calx” really changes the album’s direction in a different and interesting way.
Soaring melodies and backing music that fit Ray’s vocals perfectly
This album is so punk and the fact that it incorporates folk instruments from Ireland is pretty astounding. The songs have great themes. The vocals are unique and fit what they are trying to do. However, as the album goes, songs start blending and sounding the same. Cool concept but I just needed more variety.
Very unique and chaotic take on jazz.
Great album! Reminds me a lot of Television. Hard to imagine this album came out in the 70s. Reminds me of early punk/new wave with almost a touch of indie rock
An absolutely beautiful album from the singer songwriter. While some people may prefer the more acoustic driven work, this album is a sonic masterpiece from start to finish. The production is top notch and I would dare to put this up next a Beatles album. With the starting track “son of Sam” to Happiness is a gandola man, each track offers something special and tragic at the same time.
Very good songwriter. Odd that to start the album I like only the even numbered songs “Freeze tag” and “Small blue things” are pretty outstanding and she has a great voice. “Knight moves” is absolutely delightful and reminds me a bit of Ani Di Franco ( and yes I do know Suzanne was before Ani). It was nice to also see that her catalogue is deeper than "Tom's Diner."
This album is a little confusing. I see the hard rock elements but that damn flute throws me off every song. A lot of the songs seem to have Christian undertones but I gotta say that Hymn 43 is a banger.
What a beautiful staring starting song “Cherry coloured funk”. Beautifully crafted soundscapes with a touch of 80s regalia but definitely a different sound than anything else from 1990. “Iceblink luck” is another amazing track. Amazing shoe gaze
Interesting start to the album. Two of the first three songs included saxophone and clarinet which I did not expect. Obviously “tainted love” is the lead track which is catchy. “Chips on my shoulder” is another track that has a driving beat and utilizes synthesizers to an excellent extent. Got pretty repetitive
Always wondered why the kinks never got to the level as the other British Invasion groups. When you put out amazing albums like this one it’s hard to see. The album is so very British, from the theme and title to the many different tracks including British colloquialisms and humor.
A true masterpiece from the 80s. Sounds nothing like anything else that was going on then.
Sounds like a typical big production 70s rock album. Very piano driven which is nice. Stand out tracks are “Bennie and the jets” and “Dirty girl.” The rest is pretty so so
What a powerful pop album. With the opening 2 tracks being mega hits, the album keeps up a frenetic pace of great song after great song. After learning the context behind the album and it having to do with her divorce, the songs have a lot more meaning. With beautiful soaring vocals and the perfect piano accompaniment, this album surprises.
Good album but a little slick for my tastes when it comes to the white stripes
Such a classic album. This album is the pinnacle of all Beastie boys. It touches on everything from their hip hop roots to hardcore punk to beautiful instrumentals. This album has soul, humor, angst and passion. From top to bottom this album flows perfectly.
The album is a bit trite. Surely excellent guitars and vocals but didn’t really move the needle. Ernie is one of the best rock mascots, though.
I really wanted to love this album since it was recently added to a saddest album list but I just could not get into it completely. It had its moments and there was one track with some just killer drums but overall it just didn’t hit the notes. The songs were great I think the vocals were a bit lacking.
The instrumentation of these songs is great. The twangy movement of the guitars really drives the tracks. Beautiful guitar work that is not over the top but fits the songs perfectly. The vocals sound a little like JJ Cale to me but seem adequate.
They can’t all be winners. This album I found pretty boring. Most of the songs sounded very similar and while I appreciate her vocal range, it just did not move the needle.
This album had me so conflicted. There were points that I wasn’t really sure about this album and then there were other points where I said to myself “this album is a masterpiece.” All the interlaying sounds work together in such a way that I could see people giving up on it by giving it just a surface listen but the further I got the more I understood it. “Trouble down south” was my favorite track.
Talk about an album that did not age well. Very misogynistic and oozing with machismo. The violence alone can make one grit their teeth and ask “ is he still talking about killing his ex?” As for lyrics and beats I think his rhyme patterns were good but most of the songs had the same up and down flow to them.
Decent folk album compared to what else was coming out that year of 1969. It then makes a hard right turn when Nico comes in and “murder mystery” happens. If I had to describe art rock in 1 song this would be it.
Amazing fusion of Latin music and modern hip hop. I loved this album so much be it is such a cultural crossover and hits on so many levels.
The epitome of gangster rap! The album is so essential to the evolution of rap music. The verses are on point painting and celebrating the gangster lifestyle and the hooks are off the chain. The beats are focused and drive the tracks in the right direction. Tons of great guests. Only complaint is that the album starts to get a little redundant towards the end but still a great listen.
Essential thrash metal album. Intricately composed and lyrics that match the destruction and devastation of sound that is coming forth.
This album is the epitome of early 2000s gangsta rap. Great beats and some excellent hooks but the message gets a little played out as the album continues.
Such a unique voice and the music just fits perfectly with it. Great use of folk instruments from Ireland and it just sounds totally different than anything else from that era.
Kinda boring and basic pop album. She seems to use the same vocal flourishes throughout the whole album. Kind of a one trick pony. The voice sounds good but it’s not really enough to save the album.
I kept going back and forth on the album. On the one hand it had a lot of catchy songs and almost every one was played on the radio. Bbbbbuuuuuuttttt I just can’t get over how here voice sounds. Bbbbbuuuuuttttt then I really like her theme of breaking up. Since the musicians are also pretty good I will up it by one.
I wanted to like this album but it just didn’t fit my day.
Amazing musicianship but the vocals sounded flat and almost like I was listening to the same song over and over.
As for a debut album this on is pretty good. Clint Eastwood and 19-2000 are stand out tracks. The album though sounds a little disjointed, especially compared to their amazing sophomore album demon days.
Hauntingly beautiful and sorrowful album. Each song breaks your heart ver and over. Such a follow up to midnight vultures.
Not a fan. Sounds like a throwaway Who record that never should have been made. Nothing that interesting and the odd switches in music just turned me off.
Great album and I was very surprised how much I liked it. Reminded me a bit of a cross between the cure and the jam. Pretty in pink was my favorite song.
As a college student in the early 2000s, I LOVED J5. This album is so cleanly produced with amazing lyrical content that hits on all levels, society, love, hurt and enjoyment of life. Though I prefer Quality Control as my favorite J5 album, this album just rips from track 1 all the way through the end.
Not really too sure about this album. To mean it sounds like the artist wanted to make a Michael Jackson album but didn’t have the chops or songs. The synth work is pretty good but when I think of 80s pop music, I think there has to be about 150 albums above this one.
What an amazing and ambitious project! A rock opera that hits on so many levels and superior musicianship across the board.
Great album and definitely top tier. Beautiful songs that just meld together to create a free flowing album.
Interesting choice that I never would have picked on my own, especially based upon n the cover. I actually quite enjoyed it. The xylophone and accordion had a perfect balance.
The album stared out pretty boring but “Seeing things” had amazingly soulful backing vocals and “Hard to handle” is a ripping southern rocker.
Rip roaring rocker! I forgot how talented these musicians were. Each song just pushes the boundaries in showmanship.
Kinda boring. Seemed like the were a wannabe Black Sabbath with a less talented roster.
First 2 songs are standard thrash metal songs that aren’t really distinguishable. However “I am the law” tears the first two songs up. Great transitions, vocals and lyrics.
Genuinely surprised at how good this album was. Great blues based album and not the pop country. I was definitely caught judging a book by its cover. While not necessarily my style. It was a well done album for sure.
I almost gave it a two because of Chester bennington’s voice but then the other started rhyming terribly again. Very angsty without enough substance. I also didn’t think the do work did it much favors
I mean it’s David Bowie and I give him some credit for creating these ethereal compositions but I really couldn’t get into this album at all.
An odd coincidence about Depeche Mode, is that but my wife and I each dated someone that was obsessed with Depeche Mode. That being said this album is full of wonderful synths, heartbreak and longing. There are definitely some stand out tracks but unfortunately after a while it starts to become a little one note for me.
Very surprised by this album. Lots of really good tracks. Some sounded the same but there were some others that really went above and beyond
I was super surprised by this album. It was awesome. Almost every song seemed like it was from a different genre. And not only that , they were good songs. It reminded me of Ween Chocolate and Cheese but not as brown.
Seemed like a standard 90s electronic album. Pretty good but nothing made me want to go back to it.
I really didn’t want to rank another Who album so high but almost every song was a banger. All four of them are so talented that this album just moves sonically.
What can you say but beautiful! This voice can move a room and the arrangements are top notch. The first half of the album is astounding. Once you get to the b side, it’s still all there but something is just missing and I can’t put my finger one. Great album but a few tracks away from 5 stars for me.
I have never really like the eagles but I never knew why. Now I do. Every song on this album sounds like someone else. First track-pure praise league, track 2 witchy woman- stardust by csny. This album just doesn’t sound original at all and the lyrics are trash. The musicianship doesn’t save since nothing is really astounding.
