Reviews (page 14 of 14)
First thoughts... they were dicks about CSH interpolating their song. Not my thing, sounds somehow very artificial. Not into it.
Somewhat boring at times although I love just what I needed
Just What I Needed is a great song but the rest of the album just didn't live up to that standard. It was definitely upbeat but I found myself just wanting it to be done
Dette vil bli glemt
Nothing special and started to get repetitive
A quintesssential greatest hits band. Whatever you think of the singles, they clearly are all you need. This is not that greatest hits. Two singles, two stars.
I just could not get into this.
Eh
why is it that the day i come back to this it's still classic rock
Crap talking heads
mid, its like the music i would hear in the car, eventually got sick of it, too much boring, not doing homework to this
The singles are ok. Rest bland.
2.5
No strong feelings on this one
some classics but meh
Some songs sounded like easy guitar hero songs. Bit of a strange over-use of stereo. Not bad, but also not something I will play again.
I expected to like this but was bored to death by the end of it.
Catching up… The Cars - The Cars (1978) Not for me. A little bit of punk hints in there and some Eno/Newman flourishes make it slightly more interesting, but it’s not enough as the main 3 points override that. 1. Standard US 70s rock. If Sparks had a band it would sound like this. But it lacks any character, humour or lyrics that Ronald would do. 2. One track goes a bit Poundland McCartney. 3. I expect the lead singer to burst into “I’m a secret lemonade drinker” all the time. Not for me, but I can see why middle of the road fans would dig it. Harmless and forgettable. ⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Annoyingly upbeat regardless of the sings theme. Lacks lyrics
Meh
Not my thing, too loud lol
I used to think that I didn’t really like The Cars, but had never really listened to them much. Whenever they came on, they always just seemed kinda meh to me. After listening to this entire albumn, I now know that I don’t really like The Cars. I have also confirmed that they are, in fact, kinda meh.
The Cars self titled album was an ok listen. It was very reminiscent of the 70s style of pop-rock, however it leant a little more into the synths that would become synonymous with the 80s. Best: Just What I Needed Worst: Bye Bye Love
Best Song: Just What I Needed. More for familiarity than anything. Worst Song: All Mixed Up. I don't like the falsetto portions. Overall: The lead singer sometimes does this overly 80s affectation with his voice that actually makes it sound like he's emulating a baby voice. Don't like that. As for the rest, it has that kind of singalong quality that makes it somewhat enjoyable, but it's all wrapped up in that 80s aesthetic that I find unpalatable.
BLAAAH!
Meni huomaamatta
Tvö ágætis lög þarna. Restin frekar ómerkileg.
I really despised this album when it came out. I was just getting into punk and new wave in ’78 and then I started hearing these made-for-radio songs everywhere. People who had never heard of Talking Heads or Elvis Costello were suddenly big Cars fans. 45 years later, I still don’t like the hits but “Living in Stereo” is ok.
Ekkert stórvirki, rann í gegn mjög óeftirminnilega. Ekkert hræðileg samt.
Didn’t keep my attention
Never cared for these guys - wimp rock.

Where are the bangers everyone is talking about?
This debut by The Cars is as ok pop rock album with fun poppy tunes and some new wave instrumentation. It has good guitar riffs and nice vocals, but sounds mid most of the time. "Just What I Needed" is somewhat a classic, but one at the very botton of the list of late 1970s pop rock classics.
It’s fine… another rock album. Did nearly every song need a call and response vocals though? That was annoying as hell.
doesn´t do much for me, only like the last song, maybe because it was the last song
I've never liked the singles from this album, so I'm basically evaluating how much the deep cuts redeem it. I'm in Touch With Your World is better, but definitely a more lowkey track, not something to bank on as a salvation. Don't Cha Stop is pretty obnoxious, like the big hits. Moving in Stereo is the best song on here, sounding like if Brian Eno had never left Roxy Music. All Mixed Up continues in this vein but also adds some Queen-like vocal harmonies. So there are three tracks on here that move this from a low 2 to a high 2. Not a statistical change, but it makes me dislike them less, I guess.
Two classic songs that I never knew were by this band. Drummer is a g but everything else is just ok. For the time era I can see how it’s a classic but it’s just not for me.
It was okay, nothing really stuck out though.
I better liked the movie.
I was transported back to the 80s, where I starred in a movie, sitting through Saturday detention, stealing the Ferrari belonging to my friend's Dad, or being forbidden to dance within city limits, and this was my soundtrack. A pleasant enough listen, but nothing very interesting.
What may have been interesting and innovative at its time doesn't always translate into good music today. It all sounds really bland and boring and the songs tend to drag on (not so much because they're so long, but because they're so uninteresting).
Not as bad as I first would have thought Some pretty good tunes. You're all I've got tonight was catchy
NOt so great
i don't have high expectations looking at the tracklist. first song sounds okay. second song: can't ever stand clapping in songs, wonder why that is. well, i'm done. there wasn't anything special about this album. nothing stood out. but it wasn't awful so, a 2 it is.
Tough one to rate. I can sense the innovation, very tight new wave rock. For some reason, I was getting a sonic connection point between the Cars and Queen, but that might be a little off. "Just What I Needed" has an insane build up to the chorus, and I'll love them for that, but overall I was uninterested with the music halfway through the album. Fav Track: "Just What I Needed" Rating 2.5/5
Not my cup of tea, per se. This record just doesn't inspire a strong reaction from me: it's just kind of inoffensive, middle of the road. There's not much here that would make me stand up and notice. I can appreciate the meticulous production and radio-friendly songwriting, though. There's something about it that feels exceedingly well-crafted, but lacking any particularly stirring artistic vision or compelling expression. The lyrics are particularly boring. Favourite track: "Just What I Needed"
Disappointed to say the least! I misread this as the Corrs and was beside myself with excitement only to find out it was the bloody cars!
The voice is is cloying on about half the songs.
Hit and miss. Some of the quirkier ones hit the mark but most is mor bollocks.
Thought I would like this, but apart from the obvious hits, I wasn’t enjoying it very much.

Los mejores temas desde mi punto de vista son Good Time Roll, You're All I've Got Tonight y Bye Bye Love. 2,5 / 5. Disco Correcto, sin más.
This album impressed me like Thatcher scares tories. Didn’t do much for me
Grand, some decent songs on it but not sure if I'd bother listening again.
This sounds very of the era to me, perhaps its why its on this list. Its not something I personally would seek out and listen too again. I can appreciate the popy and catchy songs for what they are. Perhaps I am just a simpleton but this album like a few others did not surprise me in anyway. Perhaps I am not understanding the purpose of the list. Top 3 Bye Bye Love, You're all I got Tonight, and Good Times Roll 2of5
Forgettable
Pretty generic classic rock, didn't feel like there was anything super special about it.
Not many individual highlights. Good album but did not catch my attention during the first listen.
Cool transition record from 70s rock to 80s rock, but too heavy with hits and has a hard decline after that
Kinda boring. Too pop-rock-y
no more albums by men society has progressed past the need for albums by men
2/10 All of the songs sounds the same Sounds nice until the singing starts Expected more
i can appreciate that this is early new wave but what i can not appreciate is how every track on this album is dripping with misogyny. it's just exhausting. the music itself alternates between fun early synth stuff and rather dull rock, but it's simply impossible to appreciate anything when every word sung is about how women aren't people. give me a god damn break.
Gäsp! Ännu ett menlöst New wave-band. Varför?
Is not to bad, but definitely no my style
mmmeee
It's fine, I'll never put it on out of choice
Not my bag
#246/1001. As I was around 17-18 I was in to punk and the Ramones. Someone recommended me the Cars, since their music was similarly simple (as far as I remember). I tried and didn't like them at all ...I didn't like Ramones because they were simple, I liked them because they were punk. 35 years later I usually prefer late 70s-80s new wave over Ramones. But the Cars don't really ring my bell, the simplicity is now just mainly boring, radio friendliness is for me a curse word, this is just aor masked as a new wave entity, one ear in, one out. Just what I needed - more than a feeling?
😏
dnf. didnt like it. boring
I didn’t buy it when it was released as I didn’t like it. I now played it 10 times back to back as it’s highly regarded just in case I was wrong. But I wasn’t. It’s rubbish. I like the sleeve though. Ron Coro – art direction Johnny Lee – design. Elliot Gilbert – photography
Nope.
I disliked this album to the point of, I have effectively forgotten the album in the two or three days it took me to come write the written review.
Apart from probably knowing a few songs on this ive not ever listened to this album in full. 3 songs in and i know each song well so far. The A side was clearly popular. Lots of radio play for this album perhaps. Did Australia Crawl steal this album’s schtick? Sounds like it to me and unfortunately, for me, like Aus Crawl, I find this a bit laborious and one dimensional (even if they do use elements of rock mixed with regae feel, operative choruses, etc). it feels a little on auto, one level, no shades. Ocasek’s singing doesnt help - its really back of the throat and i keep waiting for him to get a tickle he cant ignore and cough. Very distracting. Hes not a conventional singer and that can really work but i find it distracting here. It might bw the mix, they are pretty prevelant in the mix and everything else seems toned down. Could be listening on Apple and airpods. The guitar solo on you’re all ive got, for example, is at the same level as the rythm guitar. The whole album is a bit the same levelish. The whole album is not quite enough for me - not quite enough rock, not quite enough funky grrove, not enough prog rock, etc.
Bruh
? Schon wieder vergessen. "Talking Heads" war doch auch New Wave? manche Parts schon irgendwie classy aber, nichts hängengeblieben. c
meh
Unfortunately this album was really boring 🫣🫣 most of the songs felt very repetitive, only thing that kind of saved them was the guitar solos. Especially don’t cha stop and you’ve all I’ve got tonight were driving me nuts because the chorus was just the song’s title repeated over and over again….
Same report as Rolling Stones. It wasn't bad but nothing made it special for me.
New Wave music can be so hit or miss and for me this was a huge miss. 1 song that I would go back to and the rest of the album I was counting down when it would be over. 3/10
no lo escuche
Fuck rating albums. Just let me listen.
Booooring!
Dont understand this
Horrible
I get triggered whenever I hear Just What I Needed.
So not my style but Just What I Needed, Bye Bye Love, and Don't Cha Stop are okay. Moving in Stereo is good. Love the futuristic 8-bit synth sounds on the album. Pity about the REST.
Bubblegum pop, as Spotify calls this band, isn’t my thing. Getting through this album from start to finish was a real struggle.
The most generic album for 1978
No, no, that's absolutely not possible. I listened to the album twice and I can't get anything out of it. I know why I was never a "Cars" fan, never really paid attention to this band and had completely lost track of them, it's absolutely not worth it. The guitar sound is totally boring and almost always the same. The whining voice really gets on my nerves. 1978 was a good year musically, the Cars were successful, but I ask myself why? Why couldn't I get anything out of them, then and now? Quite simple, I think they're crap. Compared to many other bands, they were simply in the bottom third for me.
1001 albums I dont want to listen to anymore
It's crazy how every new wave song sounds the exact same regardless of nationality, singer or year of release. It's hard work sitting on my ass listening to the creative endeavours of others five days a week. I think I'm gonna kick my feet back, give the rest of this album a spin and see if the power of rock music is ᵃᵇˡᵉ ᵗᵒ ˢᵃᵛᵉ ᵐʸ ʷᵃⁿᶦⁿᵍ ᶦⁿᵗᵉʳᵉˢᵗ 😴😴😴😴😴😴 ˢᵉᵉ ʸᵒᵘ ᵍᵘʸˢ ᵗᵒᵐᵒʳʳᵒʷ 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
Trash
The Cars are one of the most overrated bands out there in my opinion. They are the Weezer of their time, and I don’t mean that in a good way. This music is very bland to me. It lacks depth, it lacks soul, it doesn’t challenge me. I’ll never understand why this album is so popular and I’m fine with that. I’ll will award points for being mixed and mastered VERY well but those points don’t result in more stars, sorry.
seems like this song talks about desire, vulnerability, and the unexpected connections life can bring. for example: "I don’t mind you coming here And wasting all my time" this person displays openness, but also this person brings up the consequences of doing it overall, i don't like the song, and i wouldn't listen to it, as i don't find it interesting or relatable in any way
I think this album could be worse. It feels very repetitive and I don't like the beat. I don't recommend it.
Repetitive hooks, limited replay value, feels too simplistic after deeper listens.
I just don’t get why this is a classic album ? It’s so plain and anonymous.
i'm sorry... this just isn't for me
lindsay lohan i'm bored i'm so bored.gif
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The repetitiveness and mediocrity of the music was a massive let down, and proved a waste of an otherwise excellent album cover.
I wasn't expecting much... ...and this delivered. I couldn't find any way to connect at all.
Kann man sich anhören. Rhythmusgitarre mit stark betontem Anschlaggeräusch. Geschmacklich nix für mich.
Unbekanntes Album. Sehr Elektrogitarrenlastig. Gefällt mir nicht.
It's pretty blocky. I don't love it. Mercifully short
Nor for me
meh
I mean I get that it was revolutionary at the time but it feels so dated today. Couldn't even get through it.
Paskaahan tämä kolmen suora.. voitto... kiitos kaikki...
offensively boring
Can't do it. Didn't know all those songs were the cars, but I hate every one of them.
Not my thing.
Standard eighties fare.
That‘s so tacky, dated, boring that I really doubt the authority of this list… 1 point for the band name
I decided at the start of this to listen to every album from beginning to end. I regret that now. I guess you had to be there, but with hindsight this feels like a really overly commercial, uninteresting album.
nope, more 70s vanilla meh
Boring
Nah
Crap
Absolute rubbish
Dog shit
Bad Queen tribute band
I don't know any music by The Cars so this was my first time hearing them and I am not impressed.
