Reviews (page 12 of 13)

What is my mans talking about?

I like Dylan as a songwriter, but not as much as a performer - the harmonic grates a bit, and the mumble loses it's charm. Still a few gems here though.

I am not a big Bob Dylan. This album did change my feelings about him.

bah c'est du bon rock à papa quoi. 3

Moody vibe

Easy listening for me and Like a Rolling Stone a favorite for me !!!

Típico de Dylan. Like a Rolling Stone e Isolation Road. Por lo demás no puedo evitar que, al faltarme inglés, me acabe aburriendo.

Seems like classic Dylan. Not really for me, but also not bad.

I just don't know what I think about Bob Dylan. He has such a distinct voice but it isn't always in the best way. Like a Rolling Stone is really good and has grown on me a ton but I don't love the rest of the album. Would probably need a few more listens Saved: Like a Rolling Stone

Yanno foie gras? Yanno how they force feed the ducks to fatten their livers? That sound of ducks squawking in discomfort and pain, that's Bob Dylan's voice.

C’est bon, j’ai bien aimé l’hamonoca pis toute. Bel album pour faire un roadtrip. Parc contre, les chansons se ressemblent toutes.

Dylan doing Dylan things.

More Bob Dylan

Adelante mis muchachos!

L'album commence fort avec Like a Rolling Stone, mais après je trouve qu'il y a beaucoup de chansons qui me laisses froid. Je vais continuer à écouter Bob Dylan mais je vais me choisir un autre cd.

Not my favorite album so far, but desolation row is pretty good. Kind of prefer the MCR cover though.

No surprise to see Dylan on here, but this one didn’t move the needle much for me. It’s fine; I get why people flipped for him lyrically. There’s stuff I like here it’s just probably not something I’d ever feel like I just HAD to put on again. I do love that people got so upset that the dude started playing electric guitar music that they would literally go to his shows just to boo him. Hahaha. That’s how I feel whenever I see Dave Grohl with an acoustic guitar.

I can appreciate this, but it's not part of my personal history. I need more time with a record like this.

Should have listened to the lyrics.

Some decent songs

I didn't percieve the lyrics, but it's good music. 7

Was okay

Noh tämä on Bob Dylania - hyvässä ja pahassa mielessä. Onhan esim Like a Rolling Stone ihan timanttinen biisi, mutta suuria osa levystä on todella yhdentekevää rallattelua. En ihan ymmärrä statusta jonka Dylan on musiikkihistoriassa saanut. Ei häiritseveää, ei loistokasta. Hitit nostaa kakkosen kolmoseksi.

Like a Rolling Stone: nr.1 in Rolling Stone top 500. Waarschijnlijke diepere betekenis in de lyrics waar ik niet zo veel aandacht aan heb besteed.

I liked it but I’ve haven’t got much pull to check out his other albums.

God sangskrivning, varmt, fortællende, rock/blues

Bobia parhaimmillaan. Aina miellyttävä kuunnella, mut wow-experience puuttuu.

Not a big Dylan guy. Low 3

never really been a harmonica rock guy, i can appreciate it but i just like billy joel more… saved 0/9

Not a fan of his voice/style

I just don’t care about this album.

It's crazy how much my opinion of Bob Dylan would completely flip if he only wrote songs and had someone else perform them

Unfortunately I just do not care for his voice

Okay, pretty predictable as to be expected with a lot of blues. Held back by the worst harmonica you're heard in your life.

I wonder how many of these albums will come from the 60s, and sound very droning

The first 4 songs weren't bad, that may be the most Dylan I can take at a time. Ballad of a Thin Man and Highway 61 Revisited are incredibly weird songs.

Just hootin and hollerin

favs: it takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry queen jane approximately desolation row rating 1.6/5

2 someone please burn that harmonica (the 2 is for uniqueness)

meh... not my music taste

I thought it was alright. I’m not the craziest fan of Bob Dylan so it wasn’t the craziest vibe.

i got halfway through, that was enough 4/10

I gave Bob a chance. We all know his voice isn't the best, his playing isn't the strongest either. The lyrics must be the redeeming feature, surely as a Nobel Laureate in Literature, but for me they just don't hit here.

in the album's defense, I can't stand harmonicas

It’s Bob.

Iconic piece of poo

I have this record

Not a fan, always found his voice annoying and he spawned a thousand dreadful buskers

I only listened halfway before giving up. Sorry, Bob Dylan. His music doesn't appeal to me (and it obviously can't / doesn't have to, since my dad wasn't even born when this came out)

No me gusto :(

Just that voice and harmonica grate. Gods songs though.

no. just no. i really don‘t understand the hype for him. if his focus are the lyrics, why didn‘t he become a poet instead of an awful singer? and this shitty harmonica just makes me really aggressive

I don’t get Dylan. Too slow and boring for me.

Yea I’m just not a huge fan of Dylan’s singing style

I'm not doing it again

So whiney

vou me conter aqui. mas pqp como é que esse cara ficou famoso, o acordo com o demônio deve ser real mesmo, n tem outra explicação.

God I struggle with this. I just cannot at all do his voice. it grates, it pains but fucking hell some of songs are really good and have this luminous poetic quality. SOme are awful. Three chords, harmonica blasting into the mic, dude cannot sing, my ears bleed. This leaves me somewhat torn. In the end I think I can find other people who have this quallity who just make way better music

Very important album historically. I’ve never heard a full Dylan album, I’m looking forward to this one. Like a rolling stone: 10/10 Amazing song. What an opener. Tombstone blues: 5.5/10 It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry: 5/10 From a Buick 6: 5/10 Ballad of a thin man: 5/10 Queen Jane approximately: 5/10 Highway 61 revisited: 5.5/10 Just like Tom Thumbs blues: 5/10 Desolation row: 5/10

An okay album. I find the harmonica usage in his music to be quite bad as opposed to country or other genres.

Muy lentooooi

bruh, guess it was a one in a million experiencies, but too mid for me. Didn+t get me to pay attention hehe. I should give it another listen tho

Not for me

Its fun

Interesting, i didn't grow up listening to bob dylan so i only really knew him from osmosis, so i didn't expect him to basically be r&b i thought of him as a folk guy. cool but i'm not gonna go out and listen to it. the fucking slide whistle abraham killing his son song was a strong choice. desolation row was too long.

Me gustó solo la canción de like a rolling stone pero del resto no me tramaron mucho las canciones, es demasiado country aunque sea un artista con severa canción. 2

The least boring of Bob Dylan so far on the list.

No es de mi agrado

Not a huge fan of his voice , no tracks really pulled me in.

i’m not a massive bobby d fan so this didn’t sound any different to anything else i’ve heard of his

This is Bob Dylan album number 7 for me and I'm praying it's the last one. This one was actually not terrible. There were some fun bluesy elements. I'm just tired of this guy and his winey voice.

Hard to rate, folk isn't my thing

I totally get the high scores people give this but it just doesn’t fit with me that much.

Holy harmonica. Was listening to this while cooking and even the joy in that was reduced. I wonder how many more Bob Dylan albums I have to go through. Sad thing is, they all sound the same to me, nothing changes. Man and harmonica.

Мені подобається такий жанр музики, тому я думала буде краще. Нудно

I just cannot get into Dylan at all. I've listened to a number of his albums and a recommended playlist from a friend and big fan, but I just don't jive with. It's long and ambling, nearly stream of consciousness singing that ultimately falls flat for me. Of course I've heard the hits, but the other tracks just aren't interesting. He may be one of the more influential artists of all time, but I just don't enjoy listening to him at all. Really that's the thing that drags this album down for me. The instrumentation - while often out of tune or misplaced - may seem like a detriment, but I like that overall aesthetic. It's just the lyrical/vocal style that I don't enjoy at all. It's too linear.

I liked "like a rolling stone" and the vibes were nice but some of the songs were longer than needed

dylan no thank you

Dylan just isn’t my thing. Influential? Yes. Talented as a songwriter? Sure. Someone I’m interested in listening to singing? No.

The songs might have felt quite meaningful in their day, and I can catch pieces of that, but the lyrics often felt nonsensical and hard to follow

The worst voice in music history - sounds like Vic Reeves pub singing....

Oddly enough, even at 5.67 minutes per song. This wasnt terrible. I went in wanting to hate it. But the constant instrument changes and uses kept me in. Holy fuck though. 11 minute song? The fuck is this. Still better than TOOL. 4/9, 66.67%

no gracias.

I can't stand Dylan.

Like a rolling stone! Followed by a bunch of rambling tunes attempting to tell stories.

fine. just fine. I feel nothing really but annoyance for the guy for trying to take money off starving Ethiopians and give it to American farmers. 4.5 / 10 Alright track: Ballad of a Thin Man

I remember hating this the first time I listened to it so was dreading it going in. I didn't hate it as much this time, although safe to say I still don't really "get" Dylan.

Excellent song writer but can't stand the nasally voice

I love the lyrics, even if Dylan's voice gets a bit repetitive and grating to listen to after an hour. And the backing tracks are quite nice too. Except the harmonica solos. Not sure if it's modern compression or maybe me listening on headphones but the piercing notes Dylan hits with it hurt like hell. Furthermore, every song, while sounding nice, did feel like it over-stayed its welcome. Basically, Bob Dylan rambles at you while playing some bouncy folk-rock. Favourite track: Tombstone Blues 2.5/5

definitivamente no mi estilo, pero quería escuchar algo de dylan asi que bien

not my style lamentablemente

What a slog.

What a chore. One great song (Like a Rolling Stone) and a pile of dissonant honky tonk rambling. Bob Dylan has a terrible voice and I still don't care if he's a poet, he's horrible to listen to. Queen Jane Approximately is a particular mess, even the guitar seems out of tune.

A harmonica and some twang. Not my favorite voice or genre. 2*

Not a fan of sing-talking, but it has a cohesive theme. Favourite track: Like a Rolling Stone

ive listened to this album so many times in an effort to give bob dylan a chance. it's not bad, but disappointing given the immense respect put on bob dylan's name. the instrumentals on this album are so harsh, and it's difficult to understand the sound of this album. and the vocals are atrocious. trust that if i sang like that, i would be the victim of so much hate. but bob dylan gets away with it? again ive listened to this album so many times, and while i like some songs (Like A Rolling Stone, Tombstone Blues, It Takes A Lot to Laugh), i'm overall not very impressed by this

2,5 Solid but not for me

Rimtai visus jo albumus įdėjo??? Kiek dar liko tada..

This could have been alright if he didn’t open his mouth.

ugh 2/5

This, I think is the 3rd Bob record I have encountered in this list. No matter the order, it boils down to this basic rule: you either love Bob or you loathe Bob. The odds of being in the first camp i.e. Bob lovers, increase with age. If you are old as fuck you probably love Bob. This says more about you as an individual and your failure to discover a world of music that evolved from Bob more than 50 years ago. Punk Rock is 50 years old. Think about that fact for a moment. There have been numerous expansions of musical expression since Bob shocked the folk/Jazz world by plugging in. Bob’s music has certainly evolved. His nasal whine has not evolved enough to make this enjoyable. I’m sure that the songs here merit some attention. I, fall in the later camp of Bob listeners. I can’t stand Bob’s records. In fact, I can also judge all the music critics who fawned over this record. That’s not criticism- it’s fucking promotion. Trying to convince someone that something this boring is an exceptional record, is just fucking sales. Like a Rolling Stone, Tombstone Blues and Ballad of a Thin Man are passable tunes but they would all be either mid set songs - not hits. And that’s the problem with the record - even the hits are boring. So, it’s a 3/5 but because it’s Bob, deductions take this down to a 2/5.

sorry i cant force myself to like bob dylan, i just hate harmonica and folk also i hate his voice, so much, like really much, sorry i really think hes so overrated whole his songs are good but when its covered by someone else

My problem with Bob Dylan songs (other than his voice) is they just go on and on and on and on without changing. If they were 3 mins long I'd not have time to get bored.

I always thought that Bob Dylan was a great songwriter hampered by the fact that he was a lousy singer (and an even lousier harmonica player). After listening to this album, I'm not convinced he was even that good a songwriter. Repetitive, simple chord progressions limp along under lyrics full of bizarre metaphors that almost rhyme, if you squint a lot. Okay, the King of the Philistines refers to LBJ, but is Dylan actually SAYING anything about it? I'm not sure the Emperor has any clothes at all.

Really not for me. Respect the songwriting but his voice drives me mad

Just like some dude rambling about nothing quite repetitively Also -10 points for using the word midget in a song

I really like the instrumentals, but the vocals are a little too high-pitched for me. I usually enjoy calmer and deeper songs; I did enjoy "The Ballad of a Thin Man" and "Highway 61 Revisited."

not bad, but not that good either

Bob Dillhole Why you so many albums in list? I get it, you influential, but my God, I hate your voice.

Just confirms that Dylan was a great songwriter but a god awful singer - all his stuff is better when someone with actual vocal ability sings it.

Wow. I don’t like him. The first song is good but the rest just sounds exactly the same and just this warble

Little disappointed I didnt like more. Just couldnt get into it

yo el 20% del album: damn these cats are cooking yo el 30%: tendré que buscar mas contexto cultural? post-war folk rock obvio es woke pero, i can’t get past it el otro 50% del album: bob dylan metete la dichosa harmonica por el cu fave: ballad of a thin man

Overall rating by me: 3/10 Songs added to the playlist: ,,Ballad of the Thin Man" Notes: I don't really know the cause, but I just can't listen to Bob Dylan's songs. Can't quite put my finger on it but there's something lacking in his country repertoire.

I'm over Bob Dylan. Jeez. This is like the 4th on this list??

Definitely good music, I just personally don’t like his voice and tbh couldn’t finish the whole album

Some of this is hilariously bad, and the musicality is almost nonexistent. At times it sounds like the instruments are playing in different times and different keys, and the guitar sounds out of tune on a few tracks. Also, Dylan's voice is atrocious, and the harmonica is ear-bleed inducing. That said, some of the tracks are significantly better than the others and almost enjoyable. 1.5/5.0: Bad

Holy shmoly this album did not need to be fifty minutes long. Verses repeat too much at the end of the songs. A lot of hooting and hollering if you ask me.

THIS IS THE 6TH BOB DYLAN ALBUM IVE HAD TO ENDURE ALREADY. HOW MANY MORE ARE COMING? WILL HE HOLD A TUNE ON ANY OF THEM? WILL HE PLEASE STOP SCREAMING INTO THAT HARMONICA? TRY BLOWING INTO IT A LITTLE MORE DELICATELY BOB, AS YOU’LL FIND OUT THAT IT CAN MAKE A PLEASANT NOISE. WHY HAVE I WRITTEN THIS ALL IN CAPITALS. I’M OFF TO MEDITATE TO GET OVER IT. (2 rated as it is better than the folk shite of some of the other offerings)

для любителей Боба Дилана.........

You know what you’re getting. Not horrible, but only 2-3 songs worth replaying.

I just don’t like Bob Dylan it turns out. Good storyteller obvs but not so good on my ears

Why revisit 61 when everyone knows that you get your kicks on Route 66? Just seems like poor trip planning.

Nice album

The instrumental was pretty solid but man Dylan's voice is SO BAD, he should not have been allowed near a mic at any point in time. The accompaniment is the only reason why I'm not rating this a 1.

Bob Dylan can kick rocks.

Goddamn why is there so much fucking Bob Dylan on this list? This makes 7 or 8 for me I think. There can't me many more. Well let's get into it, maybe this one will change my mind about him. Yeah this didn't change my mind. It's bad. Guitars are literally out of tune for some of it. And put that fucking harmonica down Bob. How did this man win a Nobel prize? However, I do like some of the guitar work on this album when it's in tune so that's a plus I suppose. And I do rather like Ballad of a Thin Man but I think it's safe to say I am still not a Bob Dylan fan. 2/5

En av de mindre irriterande bob dylan albumet. Men fortfarande lite för mycket skärande munspel

just not my vibe

I don't know man. I think by now I've heard enough Bob Dylan to know if it's for me or not. I'm just not sure that he's really my cup of tea. Like a rolling stone was good. The rest, just ok.

The album finished and rolled onto the next Dylan tracks on Spotify but I couldn't tell. That says it all. Every song is the same. If he didn't have the famous name I'd be wondering what this whiny voice was doing here. Sorry Bob. Overrated.

meh. Dylan isn't my thing 2.5/5

I hate harmonica

Highway 61 Revisited was another decent album from Dylan. Opening track Like A Rolling Stone is one of the most recognized anthems and still holds up great. We move on the Tombstone Blues which isn't bad before settling into a handful of standard Dylan fair that I find just-OK. The album closes with 11-minute Desolation Row which I recognized but didn't do much for me. The electric version of Dylan that he settled into during this period is a lot more listenable than a lot of other stuff from his discography. Blonde On Blonde did some good work trying to flip me on Bob Dylan. I haven't turned as of yet and while Highway 61 Revisited is an OK attempt, its tough for me to be a believer when this album is truly carried by Like A Rolling Stone. The rest of the album isn't bad, but it also isn't great. The last couple entries haven't been insufferable and at least put up an argument as to why he is looked at as one of THE guys in terms of music history. It's not my thing but I can recognize why his presence in the 60's and beyond is such a touch point. I'm still not fully sold though. I expect that a lot of Mr. Zimmerman's best stuff has now been featured. I'm sure there will be another couple OK albums as well as a couple of pedestrian entries that I would prefer were skipped as we get through the back half of this list. I'll give them all a listen but it doesn't mean I have to love them while getting through them. 2.08 stars

The harmonica really is an obnoxious instrument isn't it?

That damn harmonica will be the death of me

If I never hear that harmonica again it'll be too soon.

didn't really care for this

Interesting lyrics. Vocals are terrible and the harmonica is worse

did Desolation Row really need to be 11 minutes long

I am 17 minutes in. There is still over half an hour left. I fear I may not make it. Send my hatred to Robert Dimery. Update: slowly, but surely, I made it.

I can't tell if it's because of my friend's Bob Dylan impression, but I just find this so grating.

Unfortunately, this has become all too common these days, thanks to our over reliance on vehicles.

bit samey

Dylan er fortsatt sykt overvurdert. Ustemte gitarer, enkel kjedelig klimpring og dårlig stemme. Hva er dette for no. Noen helt under par minneverdige gitarlinjer.

Nah bro this guy stinks. Meandering and boring 4/10

It's ok, like a rolling stone is the only one I particularly liked

not for me

A historically pivotal electric-folk milestone, but as a modern listen it’s mostly nasal, talk-sung blues with few sticky melodies—aside from “Like a Rolling Stone,” I wouldn’t replay the whole album.

Pretty ok for bab dylan

Lots of thoughts. Ultimately the album made me think of how the art is constrained or informed by the medium. When listening to headphones, I was struck by how loud certain parts of the composition were, and by how bland (generally) most of the individual parts were. Many of the songs were sonically very full, almost too full, held stable by basic drum patterns and overly chordal rhythm guitar. And the harmonica was loud. Now all that being said, I dont think Ive ever heard people actually talk about the compositional or instrumentally technical aspects of a Bob Dylan song. They are there to provide the base for his singing, specifically the lyrics. And while the lyrics are witty and era-appropriately punchy, by the end of most songs I stopped caring because of how long they just. kept. coming. Obviously Like a Rolling Stone is a hallmark of music. And its a great read. As a poem. I’d honestly prefer to take it in that way than through my headphones again. Yes the chorus is great and iconic, but after the 5th time in one sitting it loses its weight. I dont want to just shit on this though, so I really did make an effort to try and get in the headspace of someone who would be listening to it in 1965. So I pulled out my speaker and let it play while idled in the background and honestly it was a much better experience. It feels like it was made to play ambiently in the background while you idled. The production and volumes and istrumental choices make much more sense to me then, and Dylan’s voice gets evened out across an atmosphere rather than concentrated directly into both ears evenly with no panning. Make some lunch, draw a little, and let your ears latch onto a line every 2-3 minutes that stands out or makes you laugh. Its a good time.

Listening to this Folk Rock album felt like being trapped beside a street preacher with a megaphone who won’t stop talking. It clatters forward on twanging guitars, sharp harmonica blasts, and loose, rolling rhythms, with nasal, sneering vocals half-sung and half-spoken.

Not my jam

I'm really really trying to enjoy Dylan and Christ I just can't. I couldn't wait for this to be over. He's a gifted musician and I'm sure his lyrics are brilliant to the right ear but Jesus it's just not for me at all.

i don't really like this era of Bob Dylan, not my vibe

Why does my lovely holiday have to get Bob Dylan to ruin it, AGAIN?! Okay, let’s see if he’s magically transformed into someone who doesn’t just write the same song 1000 times and rhyme every last word… …”diplomat….siamese cat” Jesus Christ Bob. Okay, I know I’m primed and bias, but surely I can’t be the only person that thinks this guy is criminally overrated and just does kindergarten rhymes?! I just don’t enjoy this man. His music is quite good and some good arrangements but once you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all. And can guess the next word of every line, which doesn’t strike me as creativity. Reached my limit at 3 albums. God knows for the next ones on here…I’m actually mad after this one…charlatan.

Bob Dylan is alright. I dont hate him. Hes just not my favorite. Like A Rolling Stone is probably the best song on this album.

It's fine. It's okay. It's something I feel like I don't need to listen to again in Its whole.

2/5. Honestly, this is pretty boring. Songs sound mostly the same, the stories they tell aren't interesting. Bob Dylan can't sing either, it always sounds like he's talking about some random shit and music's playing in the background. I heavily disagree with anyone who thinks this guy is a great musician, he's overhyped by a generation that should've known better.

Just absolutely horrible I’m sorry I know he’s a legend but I have no clue why his voice and cadence is enraging.

Maybe I’m just not intellectual enough, but the Dylan-heads always say “its not about his shitty voice or basic music it’s the poetry and imagery” yet the meandering resemblance of a story in songs like Desolation Row lacks any sort of consistency that allows me to draw out some deeper meaning. Sorry Bobby, I tried. I really did.

folky. harmonica. signing?

I am certainly not a Bob Dylan fan, but I’m also not a pure hater. I don’t have the same complaints about his singing style nor choice to use a harmonica. My issue with Bob Dylan is that he was probably an okay poet who tied his lyric to aggressively mediocre folk backing. I love folk, but I prefer when it has a richness to it in instrumentation or vocal harmonies. An hour of guitar and harmonic that are mixed too loud over the lyrics gets very tiring. Dylan’s rhyming scheme of having every line of a stanza use the same syllable also wears rather thin rather quickly. I understand why his work is on this list, but as a musical experience it’s okay at best. I think reading his lyrics as poetry would probably be a better way to ingest them, and leaves room for more musically interesting takes for a list like this.

Like a Rolling Stone and Desolation Row are great tracks. Unfortunately, other than that, I just can't get into Bob Dylan. His voice is not pleasant for me, and I feel like I'm too stupid to "get" his music... He seems a bit pretentious and not a very likeable guy also. Fully aware this is a hot take and he is well-liked but luckily there isn't a downvote system here!

Way, way overrated. Maybe it works if you are tripping on acid or otherwise stoned and in another dimension. But stone cold sober, this just isn't very good. A generous 2.

this strikes me as the most consistent dylan album experience which is a step up from what we've already had, but it also never reaches any particularly pleasing heights after the opening track so it's still.... all bob dylany, which isn't a positive for me

Listening with lyrics in front is key. Can't make out the words otherways.

This is OK. Not the worst Dylan I've heard, but still not my thing. I still really hate his voice.

I find Bob Dylan somewhat harsh.

zzzzzzz

I'm not personally a huge fan of the early rock & roll era sound.

Not as bad as I thought but not for me

Man Dylan just doesnt do it for me anymore

The first 10 seconds of this album and a few short bursts of a siren whistle might convince you this album is a good hang. Welcome to harmonica hell: 2.5

Meh. There’s a mix of reasonable songs (title track and while long, Desolation Row was more engaging than many others) entirely drowned out by harmonica on other songs that is on a spectrum from grating to bone-grinding. Particular shout out to the closing sequence of Queen Jane Approximately for being truly terrible. Hope I enjoy the next Dylan album more.

I can't help but think more hysterical preacher than lyrical master. This album does nothing to bring me into the bob light. It's just too much repeated rambling to enjoy. The extremely light blues / rock overtone again does nothing to blunt the theme. Even the signature songs fail to inspire any more than acceptable background for me which is just plodding and mono. The most dynamic element is a harmonica and frankly no song in my opinion can ever be carried by that.

Great song writer not so good to listen too

Hard to finish. Songs came across as 60’s virtue signaling. Song structure wasn’t interesting.

I mean it was a lot better than that other trash the other day. Didn't mind this and the opener is a classic. High 2s.

Trotos

I’ve learned to hate the harmonica. 3/10

This album just sort of washed over me. I know Dylan is importan as an artistt, but I wasn’t captivated by the poetry of the lyrics here, the songs were so long they felt self-indulgent, the songs all felt like they were so similar that the blurred into one and (whispers) he was a bit out of tune. Didn’t convert me to understanding why he’s held in such reverence as an artist.

I don't know whether I don't get Dylan, or just don't like Dylan, but outside the well-known songs, it just doesn't grab me. Awesome cover tho.

Second 'album of the day', and ehh. Its kinda hard to rate this one. I was at one point a big Bob Dylan fan, though nothing on this album was ever in my rotation. 'Like a Rolling Stone' is of course a good song, but one of those that's maybe too big for its own good. A little played out. Ballad of a Thin Man may be the origin of something I dislike a lot about music, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Desolation Row is probably the closest song to stand out as a solid piece of music in its own right, divorced from all the historical context. The other songs really do just blend together kind of annoyingly. The album isn't for me, but I get it as one of those who's legacy is more rooted in historic significance than musical quality.

I prefer this to the folks music he made first

Bob’s voice has a very distinct tone but it can be quite grating. A lot of his songs sound samey and are very drawn out. Loves the harmonica doesn’t he?

Not my cup of tea. It wasn't bad necessarily but all the songs sounded like each other.

bruh. not another bobby d. album! ugh... edit: i did finish this one, which wasn't as bad as the other on here. but i can finally relate to my mom and why she doesn't like neil young -- his 'whining' is somewhat parallel to bobby's nasally prolonged annunciations. welp.

Like a Rolling Stone is good, but i mostly don't get the fascination with Dylan

Provjerena Dylan formula "lupi jednu loše otpjevanu ali nesumnjivo genijalnu pjesmu i onda ostatak albuma mumljaj iste gluposti". Na tu genijalnu pjesmu, jedva dvije zvjezdice.

Very bluesy, 2-3

It has only been a few weeks and this is my third bob dylan album. It better ends here

Maybe Dylan is just generational??? But his "poetry" has never landed for me.

Not much of worth in here other than a few funny rhymes. Even like a rolling stone, which should be a good song, is 6 minutes long for absolutely no reason

Love what he stands for. Just not really my vibe. 2 stars but much love

Oké maar helemaal niet mijn ding

Wat lekkere en wat mindere nummers. Vind het album niet een mooi geheel. En misschien ook gewoon niet helemaal mijn ding

look. i know a bunch of people will say this is the greatest album of all time and be firm on this. i can understand why, it's just. this is my 3rd singer songwriter album in a row, and like... i do not like the genre. i can appreciate what it's done for music as a WHOLE but this is just not it. the harmonica solos also like are just annoying lmao

I recently watched (and very much enjoyed) the 2024 Dylan biopic, and I was hoping that movie was going to change how much I enjoy his music. Nope. Any praise I could give Bob Dylan is immediately negated by the pain of harmonica and vocal torture. I couldn't finish this album in the allotted time, and normally when I do that, I make some time in the afternoon to finish up. Not gonna happen today ⭐⭐

Like a Rolling Stone is (of course) pretty good; it starts to drag quickly

I don't care if he is a Pulitzer prize winning poet. If I can't listen to the poetry because I can't get past the voice, what are we doing here?!

Alright

Bob Dylan is an amazing song writer He should stop trying to play the harmonica Great lyricism, there is a good reason why so many artists cover bob Dylan songs I actually enjoy his slightly whiny singing voice. Often the instrumentation is good until the harmonica then it's just horrendous. Every song on here is great right before the harmonica kicks in, that's it's borderline unlistenable Basically whenether anyone else plays a Dylan song they do it better than him. So top marks for writing, he's just abit shit At performing

My inherent dislike of Bob Dylan stems from an almost visceral hatred of his voice. I have been reliably informed by my dad that, some day, I’ll get it - alas, that day hasn’t come. I’ll be amazed if it ever does. Objectively, “Like a Rolling Stone”, is a good song - as are so many of his compositions. I just prefer when someone else sings them.

I distinctly remember my Mum telling me as a kid that some of my favourite artists "can't sing", yet she loved Dylan. Life is full of mysteries. So plus points: Hammond organ (songs are always improved by Hammond organ), the lyrics are often beautiful. Negative points: the voice (god, the voice), the siren whistle on the title track, most tracks are 20-30% longer than they need to be, Dylan absolutely murdering the harmonica (an instrument that can be great, but not in his hands in my opinion). I am genuinely baffled that Like A Rolling Stone was at #1 on multiple versions of Rolling Stone's Greatest Songs of All Time. I mean it's a good song, and I get it was influential, but there are so many better but still influential, tracks to listen to. It's certainly not unlistenable, but I can't imagine returning to it. 2/5

Generally like the sound but still not my favorite vocals. I’m convinced the lyrics are nonsense

3rd album by Bob Dylan on here. I don't understand the fascination with him. Biggest problem with this album, the songs just keep going on. With 9 songs on the album and 51 minutes of run time, it averages out to almost 6 minutes per song. Contrary to popular belief, they aren't that good.

An obvious classic, but I ashamedly am not a fan of Dylan. I don't dislike him, but i've never found myself caught in a Dylan loop. Listening to this album now, I like it more than I remembered, but still not something i'd come back to.

So much harmonica. Too much. So grating. I don’t like Dylan’s voice that much. The music behind him was good. The songs were all wacky, I couldn’t figure if they were supposed to tell a story? Desolation Row was ROUGH. The same thing over and over for 10 minutes. We get it, the world is upside down.

Bobs voice is really hard for me to enjoy, sounds like he's nasally complaining

liked songs: I like the folk sound of earlier Dylan better. Very repetitive. I don't like his voice, song structure, or the harmonica. 2.25

Vijftig minuten jarenzestig-Bob!

Harmonika (eeek), Songs way too long, feels overrated Fav: Desolation Row

3/10… country rock / folk

ughhhhhhhhhh.

Also not really my vibe. Love to Bobby tho

This man went heavy on the harmonica! I’m not sure about this album. I think I’m supposed to like this album because of the recency bias of the biopic but I can’t get into it. I can see how provocative this album was during its time, but I don’t seem to get it today. I’ll stick to Kevin Morby, today’s version of Dylan (complementary) Favorite Track: Like a Rolling Stone

I already made a "Boo Dylan" or "Bad Dylan" joke before so I cant go to that well. I just dont get the appeal. Like a Rolling Stone is alright, and its always the song Bobby D fans recommend to me, but man, the rambling vocals and using the harmonica as a breathing mask gets old so quick.

Dunno what it is about Bob Dyland. A great deal of it is not for me. Dylan’s voice is so big in the mix in this album to the detriment of accompanying parts

Bob Dylan overrated

I understand the importance of By Dylan and why he's so beloved, but his music has never touched me like it has so many other people. Not for me.

I don’t know what to say about this one. Everything is quite mediocre and for me personally it can stay on repeat in my local pub haha

Do we really need the full blast ear piercing harmonica?

I already knew this one! And I already knew Bob Dylan would be on this, but not that it would be the very first one. He's okay. Not a great singer, tbh, and the harmonica is annoying at times (too loud). Some of the lyrics are moving but most of the time I feel like I'm missing all of the references being made.

Classic standard Bob Dylan. I've never been a huge Dylan guy. My opinion still stands.

Would probably enjoy it more if I listened to the lyrics, 1 song saved

Better than the last Dylan I listened to from this list. Possibly because that one was live and this one has studio polish. Which can help with some of my issues with Dylan. i.e. I do not like his vocal stylings, nasally and yell-singing. I say it helps hide these things, but it doesn't solve them for me. The songs are a bit long as well.

Another 60s classic that is never heard in its entirety until beginning the 1001 list. I've listened to a lot of Dylan over the years and appreciate his song writing more so than I like to hear him sing more than a few songs at a time.

Better than expected but also annoying asf. Not my genre but appreciate the first couple tracks, too long after that. Harmonica made me deaf 1.5/5

Songs you’ll know whiny voice, not my favorite

Realmente me sorprendió la mitad del álbum hacia el final. Ballad of a thin man es la primer (y única hasta ahora) canción que me ha gustado de bob dylan. Me dejó sorprendida de manera positiva pero aún así no lo descargaría

If Bob Dylan has a million haters, I am one of them. If Bob Dylan has one hater, it is me, if Bob Dylan has no haters, then I am dead

Idk if Dylan does it for me. Everything sounds the same. Not bad just not something I want to put on really

I can see why Simon and Garfunkel won like every musical award back in the 60s if this was what the competition was like. That harmonica is mastered so much louder than the rest of the audio I couldn't have the music and normal listening volume and also not physically cringe during the harmonica bits. Bonus points for not being Coldplay.

Bob is ok I guess. This isn’t my favourite of his.

Det jag inte hört innan var inget jag reagerade på

bold to cover timothee's songs like this

I have never 'got' Dylan, and this did nothing to change my mind. Three songs in I had drifted off and forgot all about what I was meant to be listening to. I did get back to it and it seemed a little less droney later on, but this is not for me.

I've said it before in previous reviews, and I'll say it again until the end of time. I do not like Bob Dylan's voice. His singing is really not good. Everything else about his music is really great. His lyricism is great, and maybe among the greatest ever?? He definitely was one of the greatest song writers ever. Even his guitar and harmonica playing are really good. But his voice is so off-putting to me, that it takes everything down a notch, especially since a lot of his music places an emphasis on lyrics. Having a full band helps "hide" his voice a lot more than when it's just him on a recorded album. This album wasn't as tough for me to listen to as Live 1966 or Blonde on Blonde. If I don't listen to closely, I vibe and bob along to the music, but then I'm missing out on what makes Bob Dylan go great, his writing. Unfortunately, I just think that Bob Dylan really isn't for me. Favorite Song(s): Like a Rolling Stone, It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry

He verdomme... FAVO: Like a rolling stone

2 stars but I just don't like Bob Dylan never have and never will. The 2 stars is because I am feeling generous today. Otherwise, his stuff is just 1 star for me. Had anyone else said, "The Sun isn't yellow, it's chicken" they would be viewed as stupid, but Dylan says it and people call him a lyrical genius. He sounds like he just wrote a short story and then sang it. Just not for me.

I thought I might like this album after the first couple songs. Then Bob picked up the harmonica. Slightly better listening experience than my first Dylan album. I can’t score it higher though as that death whistle really needs to go.

Respect, but not my cup of tea at all.

This album is relevant to the list, if I had a complaint is that the harmonica is a tiny bit too loud, maybe mic it better or find some studio musician like the rest of the band, but maybe that's a bit of the charm of Dylan, true perfection can't be perfect. I'd rather listen to an artist cover Dylan, but he's a main player of what came after 1965 so I'll pay him some respect by saying that he was a notch ahead of his peers on the lyrical matters. Maybe put down the harmonica for a while, for the better.

There he was singing and playing his guitar. And then he brought out the harmonica. Disgusting. I said my peace, Chrissy.

I’m not a fan of Dylan’s voice, but I sort enjoyed the first few minutes of the first song…only then it kept going and going! It’s only like five minutes long, but felt like so much longer somehow. I know people really love Bob Dylan, but I’ve just never quite understood it.

I prefer my Dylan freewheelin'. I feel like I need a highschool English teacher to give me "historical context" for why everyone loves this ambling poetry with some strumming behind it. But then I didn't care for CATS either

Can’t say I’m a fan of his voice but I liked the production on some of the songs

Fucking hell…. ANOTHER Dylan album? The last one was quite good but this one…. Would have been super boring if it wasn’t so annoying

I regret to say I don't think I get folk rock. The album itself is technically competent, but the twang that ModdedController360 puts on just doesn't do it for me. Favorite track: Ballad of a Thin Man

It was okay

Classy Bob Dylan

alright I guess. I think it's just not my type of music, but it wasn't bad. I have no idea what was up with the clown sounds in highway 61 revisited. just why?? i grabbed three songs from the album which are pretty decent, but they'll probably go straight to the b-list. like a rolling stone, from a buick 6, ballad of a thin man). 2/5 stars.

Cringe and "oh god I hate Bob Dylan" just from the album cover. Clever lyrics, good musicality and flow, just have a hard time with his voice.

I am not a fan of his style at all. This album had so much harmonica that it began to sound off-key.

i'm convinced that 'like a rolling stone' is one of the grestest songs ever written unfortunately, bob dylan wasn't a good singer, so that makes listening to the rest of the album unenjoyable for me plus that damn harmonica made me want to hit a hole in my concrete wall... i would say he's overrated

Good music but not for me

Not a big Dylan fan.

The guitar in like a rolling stone feels like a very refreshing opener for a 60s album. The rest is this talky-waily kind of singing that I just don't enjoy. I wanted to like Dylan, but I just don't like his stuff beyond the twoish greatest hits I know. 2* Dude looks fucking cool on the cover though. Highlights: like a rolling stone

Bob Dylan - Highway 61 revisited Going into this with a bit of dread. Not sure I’m ready for 50 minutes of Dylan Like a rolling stone is a classic for a reason. So, a good opener. Although the Dlyanisms are already heavy here. Ok second track is this whole thing going to be songs in a basic rhyme scheme? I guess Dr Seuss would be proud? Ballad of a thin man is still guilty of the Dylanisms but has a bit more going on making it interesting. Although the one eyed midget calling you a cow is a bit much. Ok I get highway 61 revisited the song too. So all in 3 songs that are still played today and hold up and the album has some historical importance to folk music but honestly Dylan just isn’t my bag and this doesn’t change that The less said about Desolation Row the better. Blooming heck 2/5

Just not my style of music. Enjoyed his lyrics though.

Not my cuppa. Quite annoying music imo. But it’s my first bob dylan album so that’s good

So disappointing. I absolutely LOVE acoustic Dylan. Freewheeling is one of my all time faves. But I could never previously put a finger on why I couldn't do his later stuff. After listening to this several times in detail, I think it's because his voice clashes quite hard with rock/blues music, in quote a detrimental way. What complements folk completely falls down with rock. To outshine the additional instruments/noise it sounds like he's straining in parts which gives it a rambling feel. Bizarrely the one folkish-song, Desolation Row, happens to be one of the worst of the album, but due to it being a symptom of the excesses heard earlier. A rambling mess, with the final harmonica solo an epitome of the album - straining hard to be heard over the rest of the music, it just entirely grates on the ear. Think I'll just continuing sticking to his first couple of albums

Too soon, yet another Bob Dylan Album, too soon.

too gravel-y

I have tired and tried, but I just don't like Bob Dylan. His voice does nothing for me, so I tried to look at it purely as poetry. Still couldn't connect with the album. I think he has multiple albums on this list, so that is not exciting.

I took a half year break from this list in most part due to Bob Dylan. I was welcomed back to the best and the worst of this list, King Crimson up first to reinforce my decision to come back, and now Bob Dylan to remind me of the annoying depths this list takes me to. Thanks Bob.

do you, mister jones?

A few decent blues songs here, but I can't stand some of the nonsense lyrics and Bob's voice in general.

Sounds unfinished and improvised but has good emotion.

I wish I could learn how to like Bob Dylan. It would make so many things much simpler…

I never really understood why he was so influential. Even the worst covers of his songs sound better than the originals.

Oh god who let this donkey bray into a mouth organ? STOP IT! I guess this is important since he "went electric" on this one, but I have to say it's where all the cliches got set in stone and it was all downhill after here. Bad vocals, awful harmonica, songs that are bitchy rather than incisive, starting EVERY phrase with "WEEEEEeelllllll". Influential without doubt but a worse listen than I was expecting.

Bob Dylan has some good songs but it's on the edge of my music taste.

Not for me

wild ricochet between nice and boring, if only he would leave the harmonica alone...

I cannot stand bob dylans voice

Did guitar tuners exist in 1965? Boy this album is tough to listen to because of the really awful guitar tuning. I know Dylan is a classic, but outside Like a Rolling Stone, the rest of this album is a pass.

Like many others, I have never enjoyed Bob Dylan’s mumbly, nasally, poorly cadenced musical stylings. Also like many, I have been waiting for one of his albums to change my mind because it seems like he influenced a lot of people and maybe I’m just “missing something”. Well, I can’t say that it true because I was just as annoyed with this album as any his others.

Brilliant writer, a true poet. Instrument playing is less than average. Singing is not good. He’s a legend, but I would not listen to this on purpose.

Conocía Like a Rolling Stone. Me pareció un disco que no resaltó, creo que no es un disco para mi. Todas las canciones estuvieron bien pero con ninguna tuve una conexión particular.

einmal im hintergrund gehört, aber nicht wirklich gehört. nicht so meins.
