Un poco rollo.
This is a Bob Dylan album. It sis exactly what you would expect.
Sounds like Geoff
The songwriting and instrumentation are solid. But Dylan's voice brings it down. I just can't get into his nasaly warbling. Won't deny its influence it had on popular culture and its relevance remains today.
This made me think that Dylan can probably be a good rocker.
Just another quite good Dylan album, dunno what else to say
Pretty much what you’d expect, it’s Bob Dylan
This was ok but as soon as it finished I put on the MCR version of Desolation Row and it was about a billion times better
Your dad’s best friend thinks this is the greatest album ever made. It’s good because it’s Bob Dylan but I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to any of the songs besides rolling stone again. Favorite song(that’s not rolling stone) was tombstone blues.
Not a Dylan fan at all. I think he sounds like a sheep singing. This is paletable even for me however - peak Dylan if you will. Upbeat, incisive and eloquent - a young man full of energy and cynicism.
2.5 stars. The leadoff "Like A Rolling Stone" is iconic, but the album is a bit of a letdown after that.
Dylan has never really been my thing. That being said I enjoyed this album a lot better than when I first heard it when I was 16 in 1998.
I think this is the second Bob Dylan album so far. I enjoy Bob Dylan overall but can only do so much at a time lol (same comment as last time I think)
ma dobar je bob ajde, 3.5
It was nice to revisit Highway 61 Revisited! Bob Dylan is genius, his writing, his music, but ... his singing has always been a kind of love/hate thing. Sometimes I can take and sometime I wish he'd just stop. Good album though.
His music was popular during the Vietnam era. His music can be good, or not.
Songs like Queen Jane approx. honestly sound like they were recorded yesterday. Songs like highway 61 sound like the birthplace of Springsteen and a different type of storytelling amidst a rock and roll song. A good re-introduction record for me via Bob, but not enough to keep the needle moving and me searching for more
Great writer lousy singer
No one does story telling lyrics like Bob. I love the instruments, especially the harmonica. My biggest problem is his voice…its not great at all. Overall, I like the album. Its not too much and not too little.
The voice. Dear god the voice. I know there’s of lot of Dylan stans out there but man I just can’t get into him. This gets my obligatory extra star for use of the harmonica fortunately. Rolling stone is obvs good but otherwise meh. Sure there may be a bajillion allegories, sonnets, lymrics, haikus, etc in here but if the song tonally doesn’t entice me to listen to said “poetry”, then you just kinda wasted my precious time. Oh did I mention the voice?
Liked it. Very pleasant to listen to. Like a Rolling Stone is a brilliant song. I hope there’s more Bob Dylan on the list for us to listen through.
Bob Dylan’s vocal style might be incredibly different and the butt of a lot of jokes, but his music might be one of the most purely American sounds ever produced in the country. On top of that, his lyrics don’t talk about life in the cities and about the glamor, but about what living was like for a majority of those in America. The songs are really heartfelt and the mix of folk and early rock was really a nice listen.
Love vocals don't like harmonica
Boring. Its saving grace is not having an exceptionally bad song. Funny enough the last one is the best.
Res sead redemption be like
Okay album. I was never really a huge fan of Bob Dylan’s voice, and some of the songs just kind of sound like one stanza of a Shel Silverstein poem over the same music over and over. Nothing against Shel Silverstein poems tho. Like A Rolling Stone, however, is a certified classic, along with the fucking slipping-on-the-banana peel sound effects in the title track.
Not the worst Bob Dylan but also not the best. Like a rolling stone is overrated
Honestly I like more than I thought I would, Dylan is a talented writer, but I like music because it sounds good and this album is not what I would call, sounding good,
Yea it has one of his all-time classic songs on it that everyone knows and mostly loves. But I’m just not that big a Dylan fan so…
It’s an okay album. The last track was pretty cool and catchy, but there’s really nothing to exciting for it. It definitely had its place for its time, but in today’s world, it’s old new. Like 60 years out of date, so it’s not even relevant now these days. Although I can see how people really enjoy music like this, it’s definitely an album that I won’t ever come back to.
nice vibe
I appreciate bob dylan, but I rarely like listening to him
Not bad. I’m not a super bob dylan fan, but this was good. 3/5
3 Stars (8/15)
“When Dylan went electric” - we’ve got it right here. Dylan was a super impactful artist and essential for the development of rock in the 60s. I’m not very well versed in the lore or discography, but know that Bob Dylan is highly revered and respected by many people a lot more into music than I am. He has an iconic sound and voice, but not really for me and begging to be parodied. Check out Peter Jackson’s Beatles documentary “Get Back” for some excellent Dylan impressions by John Lennon. Not a wild fan of this album but it was enjoyable. Let’s give this one three stars.
Some classics here. Dylan is certainly a writer first. I felt like he wrote just a bit too much on a couple of these songs.
На 1 раз, не более
I am not particularly a singer/songwriter fan. First time I heard the album. Being non-English there is a lot of lyrics :-)
Suns not yellow, its chicken :D Aika humoristisia sanoituksia. Nyt on huuliharppuakin. Ei silleensä mitään erikoista. Ihan ok
I feel like I may end up saying this a lot in this journey, but this is another album that's mostly fine with a few highlights and a few lows and leaves me feeling ambivalent towards towards it. Favourite track: Ballad of a Thin Man.
i mean im just really not a BD guy but im starting to see his appeal i guess. like a rolling stone carries hard
The album feels like a chill session with Dylan and a jam band. Each song has something I like, but then goes on and on. Apparently Wikipedia says it was a very influential album, so for that I can give thanks.
It's good, don't think I'll listen to it again.
Having never listened to a Bob Dylan album this is exactly what I expected. I think I lose a lot from not really being a person that particularly listens to lyrics. But it is undoubtedly good.
Like a Rolling Stone and Tombstone Blues are standout tracks. Otherwise a pretty flat album, and the singing is more or less talking in 3 close together notes. Starts out decent but gets old.
I have to admit, not a big fan of Bob Dylan. His lyrics are thoughtful and interesting and the band's musicianship is on point. This music just doesn't draw me in and is quite frankly is a little dull.
No está mal
Still Dylan. See my previous review…
Favorite was "Ballad of a Thin Man". I don't mind Dylan in small doses, but it is hard for me to focus on the stories in the songs, his voice distracts me from it. Reading the lyrics, I appreciate them more.
Good
It's decent. Not amazing. I do appreciate the lyrics tho I guess. It does tell a story.
Interesting songs and lyrics, but not quite my thing and nothing really stuck out for me.
Un poco rollo.
I don't really like Bob Dylan but this was pretty tolerable. This is basically quintessential Bob Dylan here so while I may not really like it, I can understand why it's on the list.
some nice tunes
It was fun to listen to, I liked how much attitude he put into his singing, but none of it really resonated with me. I can see how people would like it but it just isn't my thing.
I’m not entirely sure what I think of this album tbh. He kind of reminds me of Billy Joel who I love but the songs is this album are just so long and drawn out with you get tired of whatever you enjoy quickly. Although saying this I will probably have to give him another listen In the future because I could see myself liking this artist. This album however is id give a 6/10
Le rock des années 60 sonne comme le rock des années 60. Pas exactement ma tasse de thé.
Escuchado. Muy bob dylan
it's ok.
Está chido y ya.
Pretty nice, liked the surrealism on thin man
How does it feel?
Overall song writing and impact it had on the times are unquestionable. Rating a bit on a hard scale since I know these albums will be amazing.
Dylan's more rock album, a turning point in his carrer and in rock n roll history. Everybody knows Like A Rolling Stone, one of the most acclaim and famous rock song of the 1960's, on of the bes and most influencial song of all times, but the rest of the album, is at least for me, completely unknown so exepct for Like A Rolling Stone, i don't know any of the others 8 songs. The album cover is probably one of his most famous with one of his friend behind him. The rest of the album is pretty similar to other 60's act like the Byrds (who were imensly influenced by Bob Dylan) and the Beatles especially the album Help!. Its not just folk rock its also a lot Blues rock with harmonica parts, bluesy riffs and songs like toubstone blues and it take a lot to laugh and it take a train to cry. I have to be honnest, Dylan is on of the best songwritter in music history, but his voice, how to say it... i dont like it, it do fit perfecly well his persona and his lyrics compensate, but still i have to say it. To be honnest i have some expectations listening to this album, with the song Like a Rolling stones as the oppener, but i was a bit disapointed, i aknowledge its huge influence and the turning point for Dylan to used electric guiatr insted of classical accoustic folk guitar. But none of the other 8 sogns really impress me. But maybe Dylan is just not really for me an the revolution of this album could be only the song Like A Rolling stone
I always struggle a bit with a full Dylan album. There's always some good stuff in there, but there were a few tacks on here that grated a bit....
If ya like bob. Otherwise nothing to me stood out but wasn’t divin deep into riffs or lyrics.
Lange autoritten gaan volgens mij zo voorbij als je dit aanzet. Maar dat like a rolling stone als beste nummer ooit word gerate begrijp ik dan weer niks van.
Bob Dylan is ok.
Amazing lyricist but his voice is so nasal. Also, the instruments sound out of tune in some of the songs and I couldn't listen to all of the final song because the harmonica is so high pitch and annoying.
Está bien pero no es para mi.
Virka bedre enn dei andre greiene han har
dont think Bob Dylan is my thing but the music is p good. 7/10
to much harmonica
Not a Dylan fan, but appreciate why he is so valued.
Voice
Ionno, it's Bob Dylan
Great road trip album!
Slow, sounded dated, lots of harmonics, liked the final track. Listened once.
I was in the right mood....
Yes
Yeah - I just don't like Bob Dylan haha
Very lyrical, almost shanty like or a retelling of a myth. Couple songs caught my attention, but some of the songs that leant harder on the harmonica started to grate on me. Overall 3.5/5.
Not a huge Dylan fan, but have to appreciate the songwriting/music.
I can't really handle Bob Dylan, being generous with 3 here
Better Dylan than expected
Not bad
Une certaine chanson ''Like a rolling stone''. Good but not enough wow
Some classics on this but early long play Bob isn’t my favorite. Songwriting is great, throughout, very visceral
It maybe a little unfair to say this, but this style of music is not on my standard rotation. As such I was expecting to last 1 or 2 tracks before losing interest and switching off. I managed to listen to the whole album and it was decent. That's a lot of waffle to say not much.
Great song writer, fun listen. 3/5
Meh mangler lige at lytte lidt mere til.
Decent album
Meh its Bob Dylan
Always enjoy Bob Dylan and will never be bummed to listen to him, but this isn’t my favorite album of his.
Begon wel leuk maar werd na een paar nummers saai. Na langer luisteren, en meer als achtergrondgeluid werd het beter
Not bad but not a huge Dylan fan
Iconic, but the songs are too long, I'm not a lyrics person so this isn't my jam.
Classic stuff, but the majority of songs overstay their welcome. A 3/5 for Bobby Dylzo. (3.5 if I could) Favourite Song: Ballad Of A Thin Man
Easy listening 7.1
+Catchy, good story telling, plus you got the iconic like a rolling stone in here -every song feels too long and has 10+ verses
I've never really loved Bob Dylan's vocals, but I also never gave him a full listen until now. I love the music and the lyrics, but I still can't get past his vocals. 3 Stars for the album because it's not bad - just not my cup of tea.
Mittelmäßig
Boomer tunes
Decent
Tombstone Blues feels like it ran its course after about 3 minutes, but was stretched out to 6; similarly Ballad Of A Thin Man & Desolation Row. I liked quite a few of the songs on here but it got a bit samey after a while.
Ahh Mr Dylan. So many people love you. You have some big tunes, but mostly I’ve always found you a bit … whiny. So I can’t say I was fully looking forward to this. Fortunately it’s starts with one of his big hitters in ‘Non direction home’ and it keeps a lovely pace up. Lots of proper bluesy rock and roll, with minimal whining. I listened to it twice and was tapping away. I liked it way more than I expected. Some of them outstay their welcome, and the last track is more of the whiny Bob I wanted to avoid. But overall I liked it.
Dylan's never been for me, but some big hits on here.
Folksy as fuck, classic Dylan and fun to listen to.
Not the most exciting Dylan.
I enjoyed this album but didn't finish it, will definitely return because Robert is a talent
Not a dylan guy...
It's been called the album that really started the 60s. It's hard to imagine higher praise than that. The recording sessions come straight off the back of Dylan's famously controversial electric performance at Newport. Yet the songs are seeped in blues tradition, pointing to both past and future simultaneously. It's not his strongest album, but it has a very significant place in music history.
Fun and light
3.4
"So let Germany brew your beer, let Switzerland make your watch, let Asia assemble your phone, we (America) will build your car," lectures Dylan during the 2014 Super Bowl ad break. With the title of his sixth album and the motorbike on his tee, already back in 1965 Dylan was positioning himself as a motor vehicle sales rep. His maudlin crooning over strummed guitar, replete with imagined Bible scene re-enactments, quickly established him as the King of Americana, driving from desolation row to highway 61. Vroom vroom.
I've always thought Bob Dylan to be quite overrated. His singing voice grates on my ears and his songs repeat about 5 times too many. Some of his tunes are genuinely good songs however, and despite not particularly enjoying poetry I can't deny the influence he had on music with his intensely lyrical pieces.
Decent, some good songs, some boring ones.
I really wanna like it more than I do, but I just can't get into it. Dylan is a storyteller and I like everything he does on paper, but when it comes to actually listening I am not having an amazing time. It's fine, not my thang.
I like the music, but it got a little repetitive
A surprisingly pleasant listen - I have never been a Dylan fan, but admittedly, I'd never made an effort. I am not a fan of his mumbling style, but the music was enjoyable enough, even if it's not something I would seek out
It was nice to have on on the background. I wish I liked Dylan's voice better.
Pretty good for a Bob Dylan album. I usually get tired of it pretty quick, but this was the right mix of music and incoherent lyrics
Bob.
3/9, 33%
Solid album with alround good songs, but its just not my music
Gammal hederlig rock. Bra album och nice låtar men halvbra vocals. Favorit: Desolation Row
Bra album men asså jag har svårt för Dylans röst Bästa låtar: Like a Rolling stone, ballad of a Thin man
Overrated: honestly this album isn't all that. I thought Bob Dylan was meant to be a sick rock artist turned folk activist musician but I just feel he was also folk and at that not even that good. As an album this felt underwhelming with only 'Like a Rolling Stone' being a stick out song. Just meh I have to say.
Bob's iconic folk rock. Recognized "Rolling Stone"
Contains the classic "Like a Rolling Stone" and "It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry".
This one really conflicts me, because I was liking it until I got two-thirds of the way through the album, and then my brain said, "Okay, I've had my fill of Bob Dylan's voice and harmonica." I pretty much liked all the songs individually, but I am just not set up to listen to an entire album of Bob Dylan in one sitting.
Es Bob.
No es mi rollo, pero bastante guay.
A decent folk album with some great tunes. Dylan’s singing is pretty alright, considering that he has a controversial style of singing. That being said, I heard better albums in the past. Fav tracks: Like a Rolling Stone, Tombstone Blues, Title Track, Desolation Row Least fav: Ballad of Thin Man 3.5/5
Started ok but every new song tried to prove to me that it could be worse then the last one. Almost took off another star for the last song.
Definitely not my fav Dylan album. Probably not in my top 3. Like a Rolling Stone and Desolation Row are incredible but I'm not in love with the rest of the album at all. I'm giving it a THREE
He wrote some clever lyrics here and there, but the instrumentals on this are pretty repetitive and generic bluesy rock. His voice is tolerable in small doses. I wouldn’t come back to it.
This is actually a pretty boring album but it feels like it has to get a few stars just for Like a Rolling stone alone.
Two fantastic songs on here, Like a Rolling Stone and Ballsd of a thin man, the rest is fairly standard bluesy folk.
Alrighty, the fourth Bob Dylan album I've gotten. I'm very slowly warming up to him, little by little. I at least understand his music better now. This one was good. Poetic lyrics, goofy voice, painful harmonica.
Actually 1/2 excellent
3rd album of Dylan on the list for me. Two previous were older than this one and I have to say that introduction of instruments other than guitar and the mouth organ was a good decision. The songs seem literally more filled (sic!). 3.5/5.
I quite like this.
I don’t really like Dylan’s nasally vocals, and the harmonica can be pretty shrill. Still pretty good.
Kad se jedan od najpoznatijih bendova u povijesti nazove po tvojoj pjesmi 3,33
Harmonica is cool. A lot of these songs sound the same. Good album, but no stand outs. Overall I appreciate Dylan's writing, but I wasn't paying too much attention to the lyrics while working.
Almost all of the songs sounded the same which was ok with me because they were all good. Wish I was able to pay attention more but I was running around while listening. Still enjoyed
So many cryptic lyrics. I’m sure there is a deeper message here but it was a little too much. The music did compensate enough for it…
Decent album. Had some great tracks.
bob dylan has an 11 minute song on this one and you all know. desolate, bros. very nice bob dylan way.
It's Bob Dylan's whiney voice. You know what you're getting. I really wish his voice wasn't like it is. I just tune out the lyrics because I don't enjoy the vocal styles and I think that makes me miss out on the lyrics a lot. Musically it's a very good album.
I resent Bob Dylan for being a good lyricist and musician because he’s a terrible singer and I’m sorry I can’t look past it.
некоторые я даже знала. в принципе не так беспросветно как другие альбомы Дилана (из этого же списка)
Not a big fan of this tbf. Can Bob Dylan really sing? Saved tracks: Ballad of a Thin Man, Desolation Row
It was okay. Not great, not bad, but OK. I mean, Like a Rolling Stone is a classic, but there's not a lot of variability or differences between his various songs. His vocal performance is better here than later works, but while he's \"Dylan\", I think he's more popular because it's seen as \"cool\" to like Dylan. But it was worth the listen if even just for the historical/cultural value.
just not into it. but fine
Would have been 5 stars if the album ended after the first song
How hard is it to keep time
Turns out I'm not a Bob Dylan fan
What is the overall style and genre of the album? Country isnt right but rock and folk dont get the vibe either. Are there any standout tracks or moments that resonated with you? no it was just kinda good How did the album make you feel? Did it evoke specific emotions? None in particular Did you enjoy listening to the album overall? Yes Would you recommend this album to others? Who might particularly enjoy it? No I dont think so.
god shines through on track 1. exaltation and relief! this poor steak ends! or does it? so mythologised is dylans placing as a great artist, but only on track 1 and 6 do i truly feel the weight of it. the huge excitement i might feel in 1965 hearing the openers you can only imagine lyrics alone are never enough for a good song, and the closer has undeniable brilliance there, but rab zimmerman, you can do better! a fine record though!!1!1! ! 1 ! 1
Ok to be entirely honest, youtube music didn't have this album so i listened to like half of it before getting bored of restarting it in my browser. The stuff i heard was good! Its bob dylan what can i say. the more i listen the more I enjoy. its freewheeling and sad. But he would do well to have his sinuses checked. Doesn't dtop him thinking up good little tunes though! 3 stars because ay oh you deserve it lil guy
long story telling. i do like his voice and instrumental just don’t like listening to whole stories usually. would be nice on a long road trip maybe
This album was pretty okay, I think I liked it a little less than the other Bob Dylan record I had to listen to.
When I saw I’d been generated a Bob Dylan album today, I have to admit I let out a bit of a sigh. I understand that lots of people love his music, but I can’t for the life of me understand why. I’ve heard a couple of albums by him already which I didn’t enjoy, but let’s try to go into this one with an open mind. Songs I already knew: Like A Rolling Stone Favourites: Like A Rolling Stone This wasn’t quite as bad as I was expecting it to be. I think it would be reasonable to say that this is the best Bob Dylan album I’ve heard so far, but I still find his voice quite annoying. The music is mostly decent here, but I do wish he didn’t use that harmonica quite as much as he does. Overall, I’d say this album was ok, but I’ve no doubt that I won’t be coming back to listen to this again.
Great discovery
Classic Dylan
Not a Bob Dylan fan
I mostly don't get Bob Dylan. It seems like he writes a libretto 4x the length of other writers, but the badly un-economic tactics almost never seem to cohere for me. It's like he's just stringing together as many semi-poetic phrases as he can. Definitely belongs on this list, but I don't dig it. (prior listen)
Some great songs on here
it was a fine album and a nice listen but nothing stood out as something that i would want to listen to again
Everyone else sings Bob Dylan songs better than Bob Dylan
Bob Dylan's parents really screwed him with that singing voice.
One of the better outings for Dylan, of which I've had FOUR turn up on 1001 so far, and I'm not a fan generally. This one starts a bit sluggish, then picks up, then tails off. Not the worst I've had from him, but not the best and not one I'll be rushing back to. It's Dylan, if you like him, you like him, if you don't you don't. Someone, take that fuckin harmonica off him.
Identifying Dylan, it’s Dylan
Dylan never was my cup of tea really. Can't deny his impact on music though.
This album was pretty cool, the same sound throughout. I liked tombstone blues, not so much like a rolling stone.
Interesting album. Haven't been a fan of Bob Dylan and I don't know if this album changed my mind. 3/5
Historically relevant. I guess.
It's Dylan (TM). Not exactly my cup of tea but I see the appeal for the time and for now
Highlights: "Like a Rolling Stone," "Ballad of a Thin Man," "Queen Jane Approximately," "Desolation Row" This is just a superior front-to-back listen to Blood on the Tracks. Every song has some memorable lines; many songs have these slowly emerging concepts, a suspense that carries verse by verse. What doesn't work for me is the heavily repeated motif of free-flung half-allusions where some famous figure appears for one stanza to do something plausible but uncharacteristic and/or anachronistic. He couldn't commit to some kind of retelling or even blunt allegory, but wowzers don't you know the whole darn culture has gone topsy-turvy? It's also hard to parse Dylan's charming phrases from the suspect Bohemian and Beat attitude he leans into. He plays around with this, certainly. Is he the native or the stranger? Is he the voyeur or the spectacle? From the first song, at least, he deflects with a torrent of criticism -- fair, well-observed, but deepening his own mystique takes the pressure off him as well. People may have been mad about him going electric, but his attitude and perspective can make you wonder how folksy he ever was in the first place. Did this break ground? Would I want others to imitate this? I've heard some that tried and I wasn't too pleased with it. It captured the public imagination at least, and it's *fun*. He throws away great lines like they're nothing, just whisking you along with all this assurance to his broader statement of concept on Desolation Row. Hard not to get sucked in.
Bob Dylan writes like a genius and sings like a goat.
And herein I pontificate and exude upon this which is a Bob Dylan album.
p81. 1965. 3 stars On the list for historical significance. It's difficult to state just how important and influential this was in the day - you've got the jump from folk to rock, the extended 5+ minutes tracks, and setting the bar for lyrical standards for everyone else. Having said that, it hasn't aged well - there is a lot of filler alongside the classics, and most of the tracks outstay their welcome.
Not my sound, was going to give it a 2, but 'Ballad of a Thin Man' convinced me otherwise, because that song has been on repeat all afternoon. I appreciated this overall though, I wouldn’t put it past myself to come back to Mr. Bob soon.
Bob Dylan again? Ok, this one was better than the previous one it recommended me. "Ballad of a Thin Man" was great and definitely my favorite. "Desolation Row" was cool too, but the lyrics got so abstract at certain points it reminded me of "Royal Jelly" from Dewey Cox. 3/5.
I do like Dylan's style and this is some quintessential Dylan. There are some good songs in this one but not really one that I'd revisit as a full album. But even still - 3.5
Strong opener. He's such a great lyricist, story after story. The harmonica does get a bit too much on occasion, I'm looking at you Queen Jane. He had a good band behind him. I was worried the 11-minute closer was going to ruin things and drag on, but no! Great album, great songs, great singer. HOW DOES IT FEEL?! 3 / 5 stars.
While seems churlish to do down a record that starts with 'Like A Rolling Stone', I feel like the rest of this album all blurs into one. The whine gets tiring.
Not a Bob Dylan fan at all. It's a pretty good album. 3/5
Eh, it’s bob dylan
I will revisit.
this one felt less rambly. Still not really my thing. Each song felt much longer than it needed to be with a lot of harmonica
I like Bob Dylan. I just hate the harmonica.
It’s just that he can’t sing…
I've listened to enough Radiohead by now that I actually am getting the appeal of them and appreciating them more, so the new nemesis of my generator project is Bob Dylan. Like it's just been what I understand to be his good shit on the list so far, and I have really, *really* not been enjoying him. I have to assume the problem is I'm just not getting something, but for now I'm not grasping the source or intensity of his appeal to people. Like with "Desolation Row," which I understand to be a very well-regarded song, he's clearly going hard w/ the lyrics, but it was such a chore musically? 11 minutes of the same structure and strumming going on endlessly, so by like Verse 138 it's like god DAMN shut up I can't take any more! put in a bridge section or something!
Pretty good, upbeat album. Had a good time listening. Definitely not as good as freewheeling but I liked it.
Ekkert sérstaklega upprifinn yfir Dylan.
Wasn’t really a fan. The only time I’d be revisiting is for background music while playing poker in red dead
Needs more harmonica.
all the songs sounded the same
Track 1 like a rolling stone reminds me of the Beatles. Twist and shout chord progresssion
Best Bob Dylan I've heard so far. I would even go so far as to say I liked this alright. 3.49/5
Very distinctive sound haha. I like it in the background but am yet to study it more deeply.
Again, great music technically but not the genre for me
Renowned storytelling. Vocally needed a partner
Ça devait être dingue il y a 60 ans
Started well and became a bit samey
3 It’s a lot better than I thought it would be but it’s still not something I would listen to often. I like a lot of the lyrics here but I feel like if I wasn’t reading along with them I really would t find much here to like. It sounds like Bob Dylan through and through, for better or worse. Favorites: Like a Rolling Stone, Tombstone Blues, Ballad of a Thin Man, Highway 61 Revisited
Meh
Harmonica hurts at high volume. Caution for Queen Jane Approximately and a few other tracks. How do I know? Because I was otherwise enjoying this old Bob Dylan record at near max levels. Then that eardrum piercing shrill hit hard. There isn't much else I'm going to say about this record that'll convince you one way or the next about Bob Dylan. For me, listening to this guy came with so much baggage that I couldn't really hear the merits for such a long time, but now I can truly revisit Highway 61 Revisited and enjoy some of the trip.
I really like Bob Dylan, but I like him less than I did when I was 16. Still, this is an intense, breakthrough album that forever skewed the rock and roll landscape for the better.
I recognise this album is a landmark, but: I’ve always found Dylan’s presentation rather annoying. And at least in this album, I don’t think this is to the album’s advantage.
I really dislike how his guitars are always very out of tune and clash with the harmonica. Great story teller though.
it's bob dylan the music is good but didn't really hold my attention while i was doing equity stuff
Boring
Folk y rock clásico de uno de los iconos del género. Buenas letras y canciones muy reconocidas. No soy un gran incondicional de él.
Solid - assume groundbreaking - before my time
would you like to like mmm ahhh nnnhh a rolling sleep with me nnnh
nice
yep that soynds like bob dylan. probably won't listen to it again but there were some pretty nice songs i suppose.
Yeah, I'm just not into Dylan. I can appreciate the song craft, but the recordings drive me crazy. One song has an out-of-tune guitar, and, in a few of them, that harmonica was like an ice pick into my skull. I wish I could appreciate him, since the people who dig him love him so much. But I just can't do it. So I'm going with a 3 because this is the case where I just don't get it but I can tell there's artistry happening.
Ok
2.5
This was my first time listening to Highway 61 front to back. With how iconic Bob Dylan is, I went in with a higher expectations than I think this album delivered, but it was still a great listen. It felt like having a companion... comforting in a soft introspective way. I listened while biking down Banks Street and the twang and melodies flew perfectly with the wind and light around me. There's really nothing like the guitar-harmonica partnership in Bob Dylan's music. It gets you in that "my life is a coming of age" mood. It's tough, because I'm comparing this album to the rest of Dylan's discography, and for that, I'm not head over heels for Highway 61.
Not a bad album, just not a big fan of Dylan
I think I prefer Dylan when he's all-acoustic. That kind of music is better suited to his voice. Here the songs are extremely mixed and generally a bit boring, the only exception being Like a Rolling Stone. Tired 2.5/5
There are bands I listen to today that have this same rambling style such as The War on Drugs, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Courtney Barnett etc. Never listened to a ton of Bob Dylan, but its cool to hear his influence on music I listen to today. 3/5
I thought listening to bland boy on a train would bolster the experience. No such luck. It’s not bad, but it is overrated. Let’s go Swannies!!!
Lo que más me sorprende es como este carajo cantaba todas esas canciones en un concierto y seguramente no olvidaba las letras
Used to love Bobby D but lately we've grown apart
It's aight, not that special though, it didn't live up to my expectations to what Dylan could be. 3/5
Real good
Not bad 3
pretty much nonsense with some music behind it... At least the music was alright
great listen. A couple of songs I recognized and some new favourites.
It's another Bob Dyan album... how exciting..... (yawn).
I appreciate Bob Dylan, but do not like his music. Except for Rolling Stone I’m just not into it. Bumped to a 3 because of his lyrics.
I like Bob Dylan, I do but when I have too much it just fades in my mind. 3/5
Listened to on 5/19/22 3.5/5 Favorite song: like a rolling stone, Tom thumbs blues Easy listening and very Bob Dylan
- not a huge fan of the harmonica, fun rhythm though. - seems to have some good messages in the lyrics. - not the biggest fan of the vocal style. - I’d describe it as noisy blues. - ballad of a thin man and highway 61 sound good. - a few nice guitar riffs.
I know 'like a rolling stone', but didn't vibe with any others - something about Dylan I just don't get
Too blues
Not a huge Dylan fan, but didn't mind this album. Pretty blues-ey.
Genre: Folk Rock 3/5 Sigh. This is my 3rd Bob Dylan album I've received so far in this exercise (4th if you count his backing group, The Band, as a Bob Dylan project), and while this was probably my favorite out of the 3, that isn't really saying much. Highway 61 Revisited, a more heavily produced project than ever before from Bob, is a folk rock album that does a good job of providing us with the usual fare, but the album features the one thing I can't stand: Bob Dylan. His style of singing, his blaring harmonica riffs, and the lack of any true authenticity makes him unbearable to listen to for me. The album kicks off with probably his most famous song, Like a Rolling Stone, which, especially in the context of this album, doesn't sound any different than his other material, or provide anything new for us to hold on to. Even with its more distinct rock sound, we're still inundated with his voice and his lyrics, two things I will never grow to enjoy. When a song goes on and on, and it's just verse after verse with the same boring story, the near 12-minute Desolation Row is the most egregious example, it does absolutely nothing for me besides make me feel like I'm wasting my time. This sort of music is for a very particular kind of white guy, and I'm just not that kind of white guy. Good to hear a bit more rock 'n roll, but never good to hear Bob.
Typisch Dylan, nog altijd middelmatig naar mijn mening
It’s Bob. And a classic one at that
didn't really like some of the songs on side 2, especially the out of tune guitar song. Can't judge the lyrical content on just one listen. Pretty good overall. 3.5/5 ?
Strong start with 2 of my favourite Dylan songs then tails off a bit.
All the songs, except ...rolling stone, sound like demos to just get something on tape before recording it properly! He's not a great singer, which has been said before, but I'm also not sure his lyrics are as good as the reputation would suggest. One of the more disappointing albums for me, since I have always heard how great it is, but it just wasn't
probably sacrilege but nah today
This is just Bob Dylan doing what he does best! The songs are enjoyable, the album flows with a nice pace, and the entire thing is just a pleasure to listen to. It's basically what you expect from a Bob Dylan album.
album put Dylan on the map and established him.
Un poco rollo
First album by Bob Dylan I’ve ever listened to, it was enjoyable and belied it’s “age” somewhat. Would listen to it again and maybe others by Bob Dylan,
It's been a while since I listened to Dylan. A few years ago, I binged most of his discography, realised how much of it was dreadful, and never went back. This one is his transition from acoustic folk to folk rock. It's definitely an important album which shaped the future of folk, rock and pop. But that doesn't mean I like it. The music is pretty listenable (though nothing too exciting), and I quite enjoy Dylan's monotonous droning voice from this period (not like years to come where he would sound like Kermit the frog). My major issue is that Dylan's poetic songwriting is a major part of his talent/appeal/acclaim, and I think it mostly sucks. Desolation Row and Highway 61 Revisited are alright songs. Most Dylan albums have a handful. But large swathes of his songs are just pseudo-surrealist boring storytelling. I still find it hilarious that he won a Nobel prize for Literature. Overall, I have no regrets about not giving this a spin for the last decade... 3*
It's a good album imo but just not my style. I wouldn't ever choose to turn it on, but I could see myself appreciating it in the background if it happened to be on. I like that it's soothing and reflective. I'm not really into the genre I guess.
Fun to listen to. I've been meaning to look him up. One recognized song
I love the first track "like a rolling stone". But this is in no sense a favourite of Dylan. Much prefer Blonde on blonde. Not the greatest but it was fine listening again to this album.
Didn’t impress me
I really wanted to like this but it was a struggle to get through.
track 1 and 2 were great
Not a first time listener with this one. I like the album though it's not my favouring Bob Dylan record. Perhaps a controversial take but I'd be much more of a Dylan fan if I could listen to his music with the mouth organ removed. What a horrendous instrument
"you're a cow, give me some milk or else go home" - what is this dude even talking about sounds and vibes are good but half the lyrics are actual nonsense
Bob Dylan is one of those musicians whose back catalogue is so big it can be difficult to work out as a newcomer where to jump in. This album will do it, but..... I'd still rather go to a curated collection rather than take it album by album
It's ok. I don't understand why Bob Dylan had the cult status he does though.
Ok... I respect Dylan's musicianship, but he's a bit whiny for my taste
Bob dylan is only alright for me. I don't think I jibe.
A good all ‘rounder. I’m not sure how to explain it, but the piano and guitar sound about as close to being out of tune as you can get without being out of tune.Phenomenal siren whistle work on the title track. 3.75.
I didn’t hate this - and I really do dislike Bob Dylan. I used to say that maybe he’s a better poet than a performer, but now listen to his lyrics, it actually seems like a lot of his stuff is arbitrary, rambling nonsense. Still, I found this album less unpleasant than most of his work.
Still not a big fan, but its okay
Aburrido, aunque no tanto como otros de Dylan.
Still not a Bob Dylan person but I did enjoy this one more than the last album. The lyrics are great and I've enjoyed these songs performed by others.
Decent album. Enjoy the more upbeat songs (Queen Jane, Like a Rolling Stone). The song length did drag on at times. Felt like they could be 3-4 mins vs. 5-6. 3/5
Didn't like this as much as Blood on the Tracks. Like a Rolling Stone is hard to beat. Actually like both ends of the album as Desolation Row is also classic
3. decent enough, really good at first. I started noticing and getting a little worn out by his style of more talking than singing. That's personal preference I suppose but gets a little much after awhile.
Swampy blues, clunky rock and roll. Some good tracks and possibly iconic for Dylan fans... but for me it all sounds a bit samey!
3/5 Bob dylan has a really recognizable voice
(Like a Rolling Stone) - 6/10 Solid Instrumental and the vocals feel a bit corny until he yells, "HOW DOES IT FEEL?" (Tombstone Blues) - 5/10 It has potential and feels solid but it's too repetitive/redundant (It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry) - 6/10 It's real good, but I would like it so much more if he sounded like he cared (From a Buick 6) - 7/10 Best song so far. It felt really consistent throughout without being repetitive (Ballad of a Thin Man) - 8/10 Loved it! It had an amazingly melancholy feeling throughout the song
I struggle to understand if I love or hate so much of Dylan's work. I have mixed feelings about his voice, the use of the harmonica, the instrumentals are great but often get grating and can quickly overstay their welcome. Despite the complaints, there are a lot of high points. When he hits a good note or fun tune it sounds amazing, I just wish he could keep a hold onto that gold when he gets it. His voice is so distinct, its hard to find anyone else who comes close to Dylan's inflection and drawl. That unique sound really helps him stand out and stick into my mind, maybe even enough to be seen as someone with skill as a vocalist. I really appreciate the folk vibes, the telling of some sort of story that you missed the beginning of. Gives it an odd, not otherworldly, but foreign feel and makes you hold onto the singers words. The instrumentals are really good and I have respect for the band that's able to make such a good folk/country/rock song. However, they need to take that fukin harmonica away from them, same for the whistle from highway 61. My feelings on the harmonica have changed once I got to Tom Thumb's Blues, a little whinny at high pitches, but that's a fault of the instrument and not so much the band I suppose. I really, really like desolation row, the length makes it hard to listen for the whole 11< minutes but that's just because my attention doesn't last that long for songs. They do their damnedest to keep me on board though and it has some of the most genuine singing from Dylan, and that fucking harmonica, that I've ever heard along side like a rolling stone.
Color me not too impressed. Sounded like it was the same thing throughout with some sprinkled variety, but the vibe that it had was good and the Bob Dylan voice was a very classic voice.
It's not the type of music I usually listen to but I did enjoy some of his songs I can see what makes him so famous.
Pretty good - a Bob Dylan album I guess
I have never been about doing fan. I wish I liked him more than I do. He writes excellent songs. And is a true artist. But I find little enjoyment listening to him. His voice used to Great like nails on a chalkboard I've overcome that at least so I can give him a little bit higher rating than I would have some decades ago.
Good album, interesting story telling but feels dated/airy imo
We have listened to a lot of bon Dylan at this point and I think musically for me this was the best album
"Like a Rolling Stone" is the only track on this album that I was familiar with before listening. The album collectively is okay and there isn't anything that I felt like I would skip. I'm just not sure that I would want to come back for a second listen anytime soon. Bob, you did "okay".
La parte rockera está buena, el folk... meh; a eso le sumas la voz de Dylan y me aburre. Pero no es un mal álbum, definitivamente no es un MUST listen
Couple of good songs on here. But I know them from covers which were probably better versions
Definitely not the best Bob Dylan album
Alright album kind of boring
Great. More Dylan.
Lyrically incredible, musically repetitive. The amount of harmonica is, at points, too much for me personally. An amazing piece of poetry it is, an incredible piece of music it is not.
I was excited about this and wasn't disappointed by the opening track but after that I was underwhelmed. I understand in the context of the Newport festival and going electric that this album was probably interesting or important at the time but most of it just doesn't hold up for me personally. Left me feeling a bit flat. Also, the cultural references just annoyed me after a while. Bettie Davies said to Cassanova that Napoleon Boneparte would buy Bo Diddly's horse. Ok Bob. Add to that the predictable rhyme/rhythm of the lyrics and you get a meh from me. Some of the parts I enjoyed most were the harmonic solos because at least they were unpredictable.
Decent, maybe overrated.
