Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Bob can't sing. That is clear. I know the 1001 includes people based purely on songwriting but I'm not dissecting Bob Dylan lyrics upon a first listen. Feels like you'd need to force yourself to listen 10 times and read the lyrics to be a Dylan fan. “Like a Rolling Stone” is a great song though. 3/5.

some songs were bangers some were too chaotic IMO

I didn't think that much to this one. Dylan is obviously considered one of the greats and I can't bash his music, but this album just didn't do anything for me.

not a huge dylan fan but this is probably my second favorite of his behind blood on the tracks. bookend tracks are both super good

Пойдет. Местами скучновато и однообразно, и не совсем понятно в чем же такая большая его значимость, но, все таки неплохо, пойдет

It is different to hear Bob Dylan with a full band and in a "rock" vibe, but it doesn't have the charm and earnestness of his earlier work, or the accuracy and poetry of his latter work. I think this one in particular feels the least necessary of his earlier work I know about, and too much of a continuation to be really interesting. There are absolute gems on there, (Highway 61, Ballad of a thin man) but for the most part most the songs run too long and sound too much a like to one another or the rest of his catalogue. As far as what he says, I think his work can be a lot more precise and interesting than this and this album while good reflects that.

Not my thing

Not bad but a bit boring

Potentially my favorite Bob Dylan album, but Like A Rolling Stone feels so mean to me these days and I now have it blaring through my head. I don't know how to rate this.

forgot to rate this one when i listened — not really a dylan person, but again like every fourth song clicks for me. rounding from 2 to 2.5 because of how canonical MCR's cover of desolation row was to me, a child of the 2000s

I could swear I reviewed this already. Maybe it just feels like it since I'm familiar with this album. Here's the thing, there's some obviously great songs (lead track) but I think everyone else has already said all the words about it that are available so I'm not bothering.

I liked this more than I thought I would. Tombstone Blues is a great song that I'd never heard before. Some of these songs go a little too long (Desolation Row...shut up, I know how revered it is) and his voice doesn't bother me a whole lot, but the harmonica is hard to listen to in places.

I don't know why, but Bobby never did it for me. I've seen him live twice and was disappointed both times. Maybe it's just the era I was raised in and why he doesn't speak to me. The songs aren't bad, I just don't connect deeply with them like so many people seem to.

This album really dragged on for me. I like Bob Dylan's folkier songs and ballads, but the bluesy stuff just all sounds the same and isn't that engaging in my opinion. The songs on this album that I did enjoy were Like a Rolling Stone and Ballad of a Thin Man. I actually don't mind his voice or how out of tune the vocals and harmonica often are or how basic the songs are in terms of harmony and structure - I think all of that could have its charm. If the vocals were more emotionally expressive, I think that would go a long way, but they aren't so it kinda falls flat. 5/10.

Thought I'd enjoy it more, American folk inspired, woody and Leadbelly, but sadly not so much.

I liked first ~3 songs. Anything else is repetitive af.

Nu ligner det endelig noget med Bob.

boring

Overrated with songs that are too long. Not a bad listen though

pretty nice, not my type of music but love 'like a rolling stone'!!

I kinda like that it sounded like blues and jazz. It was nice hearing it

Bob Dylan would be such a good singer I'd he knew how to use his vocal cords. I think his voice is the main the holding me back from really enjoying this album.

Great lyrics and storytelling, singing from Bob could do some work. Songs drag on, while musicality kinda repeats and gets old. Some real foot rappers though, tombstone blues, from a Buick 6 were some favorites of mine. Good listen through even with my flack.

Such a prolific artist that has written some truly excellent songs as well as some whiny fluff. This album has some great tracks, highlights being "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Ballad of a Thin Man", but it also slips into the whiny rambling now and then. Recording the album with a full band takes away some of the intimacy of earlier albums and overlaying rhythm guitars and keyboard with shrill warbling harmonica is sometimes wince inducing. Some greatness but just a little bit overbalanced towards what makes Dylan annoying in this album to give top marks.

Too samey in terms of voice and production. Vocal melodies particularly. I know its probably a good album when i listen to it a few more times

Favourites: Like a Rolling Stone; Tombstone Blues; It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry; Ballad of a Thin Man; Queen Jane Approximately; Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues; Desolation Row

No private session used for Spotify. Dylan is one of those artists that I think I would like a lot more if wasn't for all the hype. It sets my expectations way too high. I tried to set my expectations aside and just listen and there is some interesting music here.

Femte(?). Dylanskivan?

Classic lyrics. Gets a bit screechy with the harmonica

not bad. didn't fully click but i liked it more than i thought i would

I’ve enjoyed this album in the past but it just annoyed me today. It’s so wordy and for some reason that’s an issue today. Anyway

molto carino e country bravo signor bob, 3 stelle e mezzo

Classic Dylan. A few classics but all in all solid.

The title track and Like a Rolling Stone are the only two that are like actually genuinely great when Dylan does them, the rest are great when sung by literally anyone other than Dylan

a little boring but pleasant enough

I think I could have really liked this album if the songs were 1/2 the length

What are the odds? Back to back Bob Dylan records. After Blonde on Blonde yesterday it's Highway 61 Revisited. Same result, I am nonplussed. Incredible lyrics? Sure. Great backing band? Absolutely. But is moaning voicings and songs from a day gone by just did not bring me in.

Bob Dylan is one of those artists that I know is influential (and I understand why), but just can't really get into. To clarify, I don't think he is bad nor do I think this album is bad. It's a perfectly fine folk album, and a better folk album than most. It just isn't my usual cup of tea. That being said, I got some moderate enjoyment out of it. I thought that the musicianship was quite good, and I don't dislike Dylan's vocals or the lyrics. Not phenomenal, not bad.

It’s Bob Dylan. By this point I know what I’m getting. Guitar and stories. And you know what? I’m ok with that sometimes.

Just imagining how good this would be with a different singer.

I prefer Dylan in 1-2 songs per listen. A whole album is a bit rough.

I'm not much of a Dylan fan. I really don't get the hype. That being said, though, if I had to listen to a Dylan album it would probably be this one.

I get why this album is considered a milestone, especially for its lyrical strength and Dylan’s shift to electric rock. But personally, it still leans a bit too much into that folk-singer territory for my taste. I respect his influence, but it doesn’t fully grab me. 3/5

Correcto

Typisk Dylan, all over the place. Mye bra, men et helt album blir for mye for meg.

Classic songs but not really my cup of tea

3.5 - a good folk album but Dylan rambles too much.

7/10 Highlights: Ballad of a Thin Man Like a Rolling Stone Tombstone Blues Desolation Row

Today I learned Bob Dylan and Bob Marley are different people. I also learned I prefer Marley...but Dylan seems cool too tbh

I think I was conditioned from childhood to not be annoyed by his voice 3.5 rounded down

Well it’s Bob….its ok

Its Bob, wasnt a snoozefes

I loved the music and gen the harmonica was light or not there. I also think I’d prefer a different singer to Bob Dylan. I can see the talent but it isn’t for me. I wish it was

I actually liked this album more than I expected, but will probably never listen to it again. His influence is undeniable, but it's not for me.

Very good driving music - would love an open window in the countryside Otherwise....gets old and monotonous.

What will be an outcome of doing this project: it made me find a rather solid appreciation for Bob Dylan; this here is the 5th album I've had and three of the previous four I quite enjoyed, 5 stars for "Blood on the Tracks". This one, though? It closes the circle to "Blonde on Blonde", my problem with it and much of my previous opinion about this guy's body of work. As one fellow reviewer put it so succintly albeit entirely unironically: "But Dylan is careful to not let the music get in the way of the poetry." Yeah, that's one way to put it. There's NOTHING of interest there outside of the lyrics. And unlike in his folk tunes, this electrifried band version of his music has a LOT of nothing in this wall of instruments, all boringly and loudly chugging along, from ON to OFF, going absolutely nowhere. I may be able to acknowledge that the music is - likely - only meant as a backdrop to string words along to, but this is not for me. Also, I know Highway 61 Revisited. I happen to have heard all of those songs long before, so there were no surprises here, no discoveries to be made. On the other hand, see above, I've come around to 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 it, Dylan, to some extent. So... I think my rating is that instead of actively disliking it, I'm just mostly bored and slightly annoyed by this particular album, and that I've always had a soft spot for Desolation Row, after all and that makes it a: 3.

43/1001. I guess this is the album when Dylan went electric to a huge disappointment to some folk purists. Well boo-hoo. I haven't listened to this one as a whole before - actually haven't listened to any Dylan too much - nor do I think I ever will (well if I finish this project I'm sure a few albums will pop up). But I never realized how punk he was. No wonder they called him an anarchist (in the U.K), "Give the anarchist a cigarette" -quote (especially sang by Chumbawamba) is a classic. But then, it is all about lyrics, isn't it? I don't tend to listen to lyrics too much when I listen to music - the music should speak to itself. Here the music is raw and rough (read: out of tune), which is great, but but still blues- / folk-based. Uncompromising. Boring, as is his voice. Screeching, blasting your ears with a harmonica (why?). Punk. Not much to love in these quite simple and too long songs wothout the lyrics? So mixed feelings here. I liked it more than the Bowie album I just reviewed though - no fake moonage sci-fi pantomime theatre here, but quite an assault, surprised that common people at that time bought it and loved it. But still a mixed 3.

Can appreciate what he’s singing about but I don’t really care for his voice/the music 2.5

His best album, the songwriting of this album is a class above the rest of his albums as well as using a strong variety of great instruments. The list underplays Dylan, considering all his other albums that are not as strong, which diminishes what this album does. Anyways, this style of music ain't my favourite.

I liked it and think he is an interesting songwriter but the songs were a bit long and drawn out.

Ik vind z’n stem niet geweldig maar wel iconisch

Would need more listens to really appreciate this. But I understand it’s importance.

Good stuff, just all tends to run together

Maybe I would be more receptive to Bob Dylan's "Highway 61 Revisited" if it wasn't our 7th Bob Dylan album. We get it. He's a songwriting legend. "Like a Rolling Stone" is iconic, but the way Dylan sings it is also kind of annoying. And it's been 7 albums of that.

I feel like I'm supposed to rate it higher but I don't want to?

I love Bob Dylan but remember why I rarely finish his albums. There are only so many harmonica solos a person can take

The master presents his folk songs with a more rocking attitude.

Good driving music when you have nothing to think about. I wish there was a half star option because this would be 3.5 to me.

A solid three. There is something about this bob guy! Favorites are the first three songs

I liked some of it, but some of it felt so repetitive. At least one song sounded like the same melody as another with new lyrics. I was a little disappointed bechase I had heard so much hype for this album.

Haha, it's bonkers that this list has so much Bob Dylan. I really like him in general but feel like maybe I've had more than my fill in this project. Giving it three stars, but honestly didn't get very excited about it

With Bob Dylan you know what you get. But a whole album is a bit too much of that. Just because of the great "Like A Rolling Stone" I give it the three stars.

Like a Rolling Stone is still a jam, the rest takes some time to grow on you though.

Starts off great with "Like a Rolling Stone", love "Ballad of a Thin Man". I have a personal grudge against whoever gave this man a harmonica - that sound goes through your head like a nail.

Honestly, pretty good. Nice, folk stuff. Banger lyrics of course but ain’t a fan of the harmonica, was a bit loud. Also his vocals are both good and bad

Objectively a good album but not my thing. 3.5

I just can't stand his voice and harmonica 90% of the time

I just can't get into bob Dylan his voice does nothing for me the lyrics are not as good as people say they are in general I find it a fairly dull experience.

As with most Dylan I listen to, I appreciate the songwriting and don't enjoy the execution.

Good, not so much my style. But good to old-school dancing.

Bob Dylen typische Musik. Lässt sich gut hören, mitreissen tut sie mich aber nicht. 3/5

Better than "Bringing it all Back Home". I can definitely hear how Electrified Dylan influenced entire generations of folk rock musicians. Harmonica got tiresome however.

Pre-listening thoughts: 😭 oh brother here we go! 270 ish albums with no Bob Dylan and then all of a sudden two within two weeks 🫩 Post/during listening thoughts: this is certainly a Bob Dylan album! That damn harmonica is just ruthless! But like I feel like we don’t need 8 Bob Dylan albums on this list! They all sound the same! 5.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: no Fav tracks: like a rolling stone, ballad of a thin man Least fav tracks: anything that ended in the word blues

Overall, can't knock the album as a whole or the songwriting, it's very well done. His vocals are even pretty enjoyable throughout this album. But then the harmonica moments happen.

Ok I think I understand it (Bob Dylan) now

Ehhhh. It was aight.

Like a Rolling Stone is a great song! The rest of the album was so so and man I got sick of that harmonica quick. Ease up on it Bobby!

Took 2 listens to get into it, not usually my vibe but enjoyed the second time

OK ish

Like a Rolling Stone is good, I think I always thought it was by the Rolling Stones - oops. I can see why Bob Dylan is very popular but it’s the same reason I’ve never loved the Rolling Stones - just don’t love that vibe and also the harmonica too.

ive never really sat down to listen to bob dylan before and i have to admit i was surprised by how not good he was. i didnt say bad, but....not good

I like Bob Dylan but it's another one I don't really need a whole album of

First half of the album was pretty good. The back half drags pretty heavily. Dylan is certainly unique and a great songwriter. His singing style can wear on you after a while. Perhaps that's why the back half seemed to drag. Not really my cup of tea

Never been the biggest Dylan fan but i do enjoy this album. Gotta be in a particular mood for his voice though.

I get the love, I just have never been able to get past his singing voice.

Initial tracks engaging, a little repetitive tonally by the end. Found myself questioning my opinion/relationship to the artist. If he wasn't considered such a poetic genius by larger fandom, I would have been possibly more lenient to the lyrics that felt unconsidered or silly.

Obviously an amazing musician, but not my cup of tea. Iconic voice, long rambling songs.

The slide whistle ruins the entire album for me. 10/10

First Listen - Have heard of Bob Dylan Holy moly some of these songs were monotonous and repetitive.... That being said, something about Desolation Row was hypnotic. Very haunting song, Somehow, I don't mind the album all in all. Dylan's voice contrasts really well with the smooth backing. You can feel the emotion in his voice - "How does it feel?" felt like he was asking me directly.

Nie moje klimaty, smętny blus ale spoczko rytm

I already own this one. His vocal is very high in the mix. Some songs could be shorter because they start to feel too long. Overall it’s a rollicking affair, and enjoyable enough. Not sure it’s essential listening, though. It just expands on Bringing It All Back Home which for me is the better album

Timothee Chalamet sounds great!

My previous experience with Dylan has lead me to believe he is one of the best song writers of all time, but a less-than-stellar vocalist. I went in to this one trying to keep an open mind. Honestly, a good album. The writing, both lyrics and music, is of course top notch, and his voice doesn't distract like I expected it to. Can't say I'd run out and buy a copy, but I wouldn't be upset if someone put it on while I was around.

Chill album with longer storytelling songs

It was just ok for me. I understand that it was a great achievement in its time. But it's not my style. However i really love "Ballad Of A Thin Man", I replay it several times.

I don't understand Bob Dylan at all. Maybe I need more time to comprehend his music. The last album I listened to was Blood on the Tracks, and I don't remember why I gave it 4 stars. I probably was in a good mood that day if I rated it that high. lol Highway 61 Revisited wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. I didn't feel anything. I will say that he plays the guitar and harmonica very well, but the lyrics are forgettable. I'm going to give it a 3. There's something there that I'm not noticing. I may have to revisit his work later on. Hopefully, I'll run into another album of his.

Great listen

I'm not TRYING to describe the albums, it just sort of happens. (Right now I'm trying to catch up on a few I've missed. I didn't even have time to write a proper review of The Yes Album, but now that we can edit our reviews, maybe I will fit that in some time.) ANY hoo, this is an interesting one. You can be chastised for disliking Dylan's most notorious works like this or Blond on Blonde. I didn't dislike them, I just don't get the hype. Probably one of those "had to be there at the time" things, although some of the more pointed stuff hangs on. I guess people never change. Still trying to understand "Ballad of a Thin Man." I enjoyed this album on the whole, nothing made me want to bury my head in the sand, like some stuff on this list does. Interesting, arty, and unusual. Lots to like. But Dylan's style is a matter of taste and it never hit me in the gut like it does a lot of people. I get the appeal though. And at the time, I guess, this was the most radical groundbreaking anti-establishment music being made. Which kind of broke open some floodgates in mainstream rock and pop. Respect.

Classiqueeee

prefer laibachs version of ballad of a thin man. overall 3

As someone who prioritize music over vocals, i kinda scratch my head when bob Dylan is said to be the "greatest songwriter". Maybe the best lyricist, but if 4 diatonic chords in a loop accompanied by random harmonica blowing is considered the greatest songs then i can just add one chord and steal that place. it's like naming an actor the best film maker for his acting performance. like a rolling tone is a classic and one of the first songs i learned on guitar. The lyrics work with the music harmonically. Lyrical content i can't comment that much on. His harmonica playing is as awful as always just a bunch of random huffing and puffing. More musical poem's than songs sometimes. but it's better than 60% albums i get on this list so why not. Best tracks were "Like a rollin stone" and "Highway 61"

Not too bad more bob Dylan. Same complaints as before. Some nice ones

***Queen Jane Approximately, Tombstone Blues, Ballad of a Thin Man (& obv Rolling Stone) Not rlly my kind of folk // too bluesy // a little repetitive & the lyrics are kind of parody of themselves('one-eyed midget' lol) but like the Band / organ / sound etc plus every song has a few great/surprising lines min NOTE -- the end of Tom Thumb Blues seems to be referenced at the end of opening track of the Monitor "I'm going back to New Jersey I do believe they've had enough of me"

I really like how poetic it is. It's obviously about the lyrics and not about being super technical (except for the crazy harmonica solos). The rhyme schemes are clever are flow really well. The songs do seem to blend together but not in a bad way. The album has a root beer dream like quality to it. I have no idea what Ballad of a Thin Man is about but it would make a crazy music video.

I don’t understand the hate for this album. Yes Dylan’s voice is unconventional but there are some all time classics on here. Desolation Row is a masterpiece.

Some good, recognizable Dylan

freaky uomo ratto

Lots of lyrical gems. Of course, LIKE A ROLLING STONE and HIGHWAY 61 get the universal acclaim they deserve. JUST LIKE TOM THUMB'S BLUES and TOMBSTONE BLUES really illustrate Bobby Z's storytelling abilities. Fav track is the delirious, BALLAD OF A THIN MAN.

It had some good songs but in the end most of it sounds the same

I really wish I found Dylan's music catchier. I don't hate putting his albums on but very little sticks with me outside of the hits. More of a musical appreciation, especially since watching "A Complete Unknown" and getting some other Dylan albums in this project

Likes : Tombstone Blues, From a Buick 6 Et aussi, pour leur potentiel de chanson et leur narrativité : Ballad of a Thin Man, Desolation Row

heard before 3,5ish

It’s Dylan, good but not one of my top favourites but mono paced lots of verbiage. Give me blonde on blonde, Nashville skyline or blood on the tracks.

Great start to an album and quality all the way through. Another good entry from Bob, 3.5 stars

This was the best Bob record I've had from this list so far. A lot more to like about it, and I'm probably getting used to his voice now. Upbeat Bob is much better

Durchschnittliche Zusammenstellung von Blues und Balladen gemäß Bob. Ein guter Song war „Ballad of the Thin Man“. Ansonsten keine Kracher.

Essential classic rock album. Not the best though, just alright. This is my 45th listen to this album so I do not think that helps.

I have never been able to latch onto Dylan, although I have tried. I do find his classic albums to be really good, but not personal classics for me.

point2.

Classic album, not my personal fave but I dig

The second adylan album I've had, and I was less of a fan. Like a rolling stone and Ballad of a Thin Man are classics, and I like the punky vibe of Tombstone Blues, but Desolation Row does not need to be 11 minutes long, and some other songs are nice but forgettable. 3 stars for those two tracks alone.

Its on that "should be listened to at least once" list. But not something I would want to listen to over and over again. I know many lyrics are going over my head - and its interesting to know there was a time before Dylan became impossible to understand. Like a Rolling Stone and Highway 61 Revisited are songs I would star for future playlists. Desolation Road as well.

Guitarras ingeniosas, reconfortantes, letras que hoy ya no se cantan. Lo malo? BLUES. Nota: 2.9

Great timing. Just saw the Dylan movie a month ago and listened to this classic a few times the week after. I’m not a big Dylan guy at all, but this is by far his most complete work in my opinion. Definitely a few monsters on this one for him. 3.5

Virka bedre enn dei andre greiene han har

I was 10 minutes into Desolation Row when I realized I was still listening to Desolation Row Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it, just an album I can turn my brain off and listen to bob strum and rhyme Rating this a casual 3

Better than expected. I think if you go in sort of knowing what to expect from Bob Dylan, this is really good Bob Dylan.

I really hated my high school english teachers for reasons I thought was petty but it turns out they were genuinely horrible people. One of them was p cool tho. He made quite a bit of money and I was patrons and staff at the prospect. One of them liked bob dylan and i started listening and i was like omg he has some bangers and some songs that i would have loved had i been 40 years older. I sometimes imagine that version of myself. --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- People keep calling me a needy gay dog on my computer, is it over for me?

#494. The first song and last song were pretty good, and the rest of the stuff sandwiched between are probably just there because no one knows how to reign him in. 3/5: acceptable

It's nice but ik I'm not in a state rn to perceive how much I like how this sounds :( headache go away. 3 stars

Aware of the the influence but in 2025 - 3

This one isn't for me. I don't mind Dylan, and I even like some of his stuff, but this one was TOO 60s for me. Very nasally and weirdly poppy. I didn't hate it, but it's certainly not my favorite.

I’m not much of a Bob Dylan fan, but i definitely enjoyed this album. The production is great, Dylan is a great musician which really shines in this album. His voice is still pretty grading, but enjoyed a lot of the album. Definitely worth checking out, this album has most of his biggest hits so it’s a good jumping off point into the rest of his career.

I dig. I should listen to more Bob Dylan. He’s a good story teller

Christ almighty, how many Bob Dylan albums we gonna get before we get a proper metal album? I mean, Bob Dylan is a great songwriter and all, but there’s more than folk rock music to listen too.

I just can't with Dylan sometimes.

Blues, Dylan, fint, ikke for meg

A few solid tunes but overall very forgettable. I find Dylan very hit and miss - not surprising when you’ve released hundreds of albums

The thing is that so many people think Bob Dylan is a god, and I feel like I come away from a lot of these albums wondering what it must've felt like to hear them in their hey days. There's a Martin Scorsese documentary about Bob Dylan that someone on reddit said "if you don't like it, then he's probably not for you." I want to go watch it one day.

★★★½

Never fully listened to a Dylan album but enjoyed this. Yes, he can’t really sing but he’s part of a long list of people who made a career in music despite their vocals. At least his lyrics are interesting and so is the delivery. Bit same as you listen through but there’s enough there to keep you interested

Clearly an important and influential album, but judging purely on how much I enjoyed listening to it today it gets 3 stars. Like a Rolling Stone is fantastic, but the rest are just fine. Overall the album is a bit too slow and vocal-focused for me, with most of the songs being pretty simple blues tracks.

Unpopular opinion: I'm not a fan of Bob Dylan... Did enjoy this album as sort of background white noise. I thought the songs all sounded very same-y.

The Rolling Stones got their name from "Like a Rolling Stone." Maybe it's because I'm not on hard drugs, but what the fuck is he singing about?

не знаю что писать ниче особенного, были иногда куски прикольные что-то между 3 и 2

I really don’t like the opening track. The rest of the album comes to its aid. Perhaps I’m just never gonna be a massive Dylan fan. Maybe I just haven’t looked in the right places yet

One of Dylan's best and considered by many critics as such.

IT FUCKING OPENS WITH LIKE A ROLLING STONE. Automatic 3 before I even hear the rest I fear. Okk I liked a lot of these songs, they are nice to listen to and controversial as it is I quite like listening to bob singing. Therefore I think I definitely would listen to this album in future. It is both good for background noise because of the familiar nice folk acoustic guitar playing but also great to listen to critically while reading the lyrics and analysing the deeper meanings and politics that is no doubt present. I think it might be a 4? I fear I'm being too lenient in these ratings...

bob dylan is a fantastic storyteller; however, i would rather hear someone else sing his songs than him. It's a shame that I've never really liked his voice because there could be some good stuff here, I just can't really look past it. 1.) queen jane approximately 2.) like a rolling stone 3.) from a buick 6

It’s Dylan. A pioneer in his field. Only certain artists get movies made after them.

The lyrics are obviously great but I never really got into the actually songs. It's all kind of boring and just not my thing. Not too into Bob Dylan's music but I like him only because if it wasn't for him The Beatles wouldn't made Rubber Soul or any of their trippy albums (he gave them drugs).

I wish that I could go back in time and slap the guy in charge of recording Dylan's harmonica.

it's fine, but for how good his songwriting is, dylan's voice shouldn't have graced a microphone as much as it did.

It’s Bob Dylan so generally pretty good.

CS Ci Sta

As letras são bem legais, dá para sentir também o que ele canta. Gostei de Like a Rolling Stone e Ballad of a Thin Man. Mas acho que vou dar mais chances depois

A few good tracks but it kind of feels like if you’ve heard one Dylan album you’ve heard them all.

It's alright but that's enough Dylan now

One great lead off, the rest just kinda sounds the same. Don’t mind the rambling and rhyming, but it’s pretty simplistic stuff, both lyrically and musically. The stoners in the day thought it was cutting edge poetry, and perhaps they still hold that same view. But then again, they were stoned.

I just don't get the love for Bob Dylan. The dude can't sing ... he just talks thymically. With that said, this is a classic album and there are well written songs on it and for that he gets a 3

This review I’ll just sum up the songs one by one: Rolling stone: good start. This one sticks in your head. Tombstone: just rambling. It started off ok. I got where he was going. Then it seemed like it was never going to end. Laugh: this one was a lot like Tombstone. It rambles with one tone. If it wasn’t for the harmonica I would have skipped it after a minute. Buick 6: listening to the lyrics of any of these songs, you could get taken away with your thoughts. That’s what Dylan is good at. This song follows the same formula as the other ones that aren’t Rolling Stone. It’s just the same delivery over and over. The music Carrie’s this song on this one. Thin Man: this is a good change of pace. Sort of a bluesy slow jam. It alone increased my review by a star. Queen Jane: another one that has a different taste to it. Sort of the same formula as Rolling Stone, just a wee bit slower. Not as good Highway 61: this one falls back into the boring category. It’s just the same delivery again. Someone can say “oh that’s just Dylan” and it may be but I’ve heard enough to know that he has more in him then puzzle piece verses over better sounding music. Tom Thumb: a bit of an awakening but I get the idea of this album. Probably most of his albums. It’s about the poem and although it may not translate well into singing, the music can carry it into the realm of listenable. Desolation row: not a bad song to end with but it stayed loyal to the one tone, one delivery formula that plagued this album. All in all, the album was just ok. A middle of the pack effort but closer to a 2 star than I would have thought a Dylan album could be. Choice cut: Like a Rolling Stone

No stand out tracks from this one, but generally, a very nice listen. Seemed more like story telling.. I’ll listen again to confirm. If there was a option for 3.5, I would give that

It’s rough around the edges, but that’s the point. Typical Dylan. The delivery is loose. It’s messy, though it’s not always smooth sailing.

Apparently Bob Dylan never heard that quote about brevity. A lot of the songs on here I feel like he could’ve cut a verse or six. Ironically, the longest song on here, Desolation Row, is one of the only ones that didn’t feel too long.

I know that this rating will catch me some flack, but while I fucking love Bob Dylan, this album just doesn't do it for me. Like a Rolling Stone is great, but there are many duds. Good closing. An album of all the albums

I like Dylan. His voice is for telling stories. But I never understood the production decision to leave in very messy accompaniment. With just acoustic, or live, it’s fine. But for me it detracts.

While I understand the influence Dylan had on the singer/songwriter genre, this album just didn't keep my opinion

I really enjoyed this at the beginning, but by the end it was all kind of dragging along. Cut them a little shorter Bob!

It was good as bg music, but it didn't stand out much

Classic Bob Dylan sound. If it wasn't for his voice this would rank higher.

I managed to go 15 years of my life without hearing Like A Rolling Stone

2 Dylan albums in a row?? Considering my review for Blonde On Blonde ended with "I guess I'm just not a 'listen to an entire album' kind of Dylan fan.", it did not bode well for today. But I will say that I liked this one more than Blonde On Blonde. There was significantly less harmonica (I don't hate harmonica, but listening with earbuds made the sound rather piercing at times - probably better enjoyed on some speakers). Anyway, while I enjoyed this album more I still don't think I'm a "listen to an entire album" Dylan fan. His voice is very stylized and starts to get old for me after the 5th.. 6th song. I enjoy him more on a playlist mixed with other artists.

2 Dylan albums is a bit much, as it turns out there is such a thing as too much Dylan. Having said that, I enjoyed this album more than Blonde On Blonde, but not by much. Bob Dylan is better in small doses, one song at a time; listening to an entire album is tiring.

Not a big fan of Bob Dylan’s style of singing but this album is the best one he has produced.

Excelente "Like a Rolling Stone".

Starting with arguably his biggest hit, "Like a Rolling Stone", Bob Dylan (in typical Dylan fashion) takes the listeners for a ride through 1960s America via his "signature" songwriting & blues-based music. I will admit that this particular album gets repetitive at times, though. I can only listen to the same stripped-down blues/folk song with endless verses and a harmonica solo so many times. I didn't mind the tracks that featured piano/organs or were more traditionally structured. I guess I've just never been crazy for Dylan and his sound. This is probably as good as it gets in terms of Dylan albums on this list specifically, so I'll rate accordingly.

The better of the Bobby D albums so far, but overall he’s still not to my liking

Sounds like other albums of his, always good, but nothing remarkable.

Some parts of it are good, some parts of it are so boringly fine. It’s a solid 3 woohoo

Not too bad of an album, and it even has "Like a Rolling Stone", which was exciting. As this was released almost 60 years ago (wow), it lacks these exciting sounds that the music industry added, even 10 years after this coming out, and so it feels like nothing really exciting is happening and he's just talking while some tune is playing in the background. Pretty nice album though.

Great sound Lyrics were obtuse

It's Dylan, so you know what you're getting. Definitely a top 3-4 album of his. Songwriting on point, singing is passable. The influence on future generations of musicians is priceless.

As a singer/songwriter album, it gets a 5-star rating, however, I have to minus 2 stars for the fucking harmonica. 3 stars

Bob continues to be hit or miss for me, where my feeling is that I enjoy whats there and can see the appeal but don't think it is something I would have in my regular routine. Overall I'd say this one was more enjoyable than previous albums. Like a Rolling Stone is of course a big standout. I wish I had a little more to say for what seems to be one of his more popular albums

I did not like this as much as the other one. I think I must have just listened to dogshit recordings of this MF all my life cause he really ain’t that bad now I’m listening again. That loud ass harmonica is like having nails hit into your forehead though my god Bob you don’t have to blow so fucking hard

Had to catch up today, had Gene Clark then Dylan, I think I was tired by this point. I just don't get it, or bad harmonicas.

I liked it, not blown away with it but it made me want to put as more of a priority listening to dylan's discography

We just had a better Bob Dylan album a few days ago. Apart from Rolling Stone, this album is just okay.

I’m one of those who doesn’t understand the veneration of Bob Dylan. His songs are well written, sure. His voice and even his harmonica playing at times is shrill. I didn’t hate this album, but Dylan is just not precious to me.

I feel like Bob Dylan is one of those "you had to be there" artists

nice & charming but not my thing

So geht Musik

Some good Dylan songs, but gets a little dry at the end

Very pleasant, but also predictable

Highlights: Like A Rolling Stone, It Takes A Lot To Laugh, Desolation Row, From A Buick 6. In a nutshell: I haven't listened to much Dylan. His nasally singing voice was a put off. It helped to switch perspective, and focus on Bob's lyrics instead. And they're great. It will take repeat listens for me to settle on which Dylan albums are worth your time. In my opinion anyway. Overall: 6/10

Bob's gotta be one of the most overrated artists of all time, right? Not sure how other musicians look up to him cause almost all of his music is a slog to get through. "Like a Rolling Stone" was good (though funny enough I'm sure I've heard better covers than this original) but the rest was... Bob Dylan? Also, almost all the sounds are far too long and that harmonica is like sticking an ice pick in your ears. 5/10

I guess if you absolutely had to choose a Dylan album to listen to, you'd choose this one.

fíla dylan

Idk why, but my appreciation of Dylan has dropped a bit. Still a good album and way better than Time Out of Mind.

I came into this excited because I've only ever listened to like a rolling stone. I won't say i'm disappointed but I'm a bit underwhelmed. That being said, when there was a good song it was very nice to listen to :) Favourite song: Highway 61 revisited

Was fine, did fall asleep while listening but I was very tired and I dont think it is fair to blame Bob for that.

3 out of 5. This is the third Dylan album now and it hit me how narrow this whole list may be. It's my second favorite Dylan album after Blood on the Tracks.

Bob Dylan is highly influential and respected, having a big impact on many artists that I love, but he just hasn’t quite clicked with me yet! The storytelling is intriguing but I find the sound of the album relatively one-dimensional, and so I struggled to maintain focus on the stories. His voice also isn’t quite working for my yet, nor are the harmonica solos. Emphasis on the YET with this, because I am sure that I will understand this music more in the future (like I have with Nick Drake and Van Morrison recently). Still not a bad listen, just not many highlight moments that will have me coming back for now. I also struggle to see an atmosphere that suits sticking his music on at this point in time. p.s. I am aware this will likely be controversial. I have no regrets.

The first thing I’ll say is I can really hear how he influenced The Beatles. Much of this record sounds like it was pulled straight from the Let It Be album. Unfortunately, this didn’t really move me. I like some of his more folky acoustic stuff like on Freewheelin’, so I’m looking forward to that coming up on this generator. His singing style on this one was a bit more… shouty? It’s his distinctive style but it’s like he’s exclaiming each line rather than singing it, I’m not really a fan. It’s pretty good music, and endlessly influential, but not one of my favourites. And tune your guitar man! Desolation Row was by far my favourite song, if more of the album sounded like that would’ve scored it higher.

always a fun listen

#61 - Not trying to rate the impact that this had or the influence. Just on my enjoyment of the music alone. It captures its era.

This album caught me by surprise as I’m not much of a Bob Dylan fan, so I was expecting to listen to yet another overrated album, but no, this was actually an enjoyable 50 mins that is definitely worthy of this list

Solid Dylan album, although I prefer Jimi Hendrix’s Like a Rolling Stone and PJ Harvey’s Highway 61 Revisited better.

It was alright, nothing too thrilling. Dylan's songwriting always outdoes his voice. "Like a Rolling Stone" is on the album. I don't get why it's on the list other than it being by Bob Dylan. Only 4 more albums by him to go... I'll give "Highway 61 Revisited" 3 stars.

I'll die on the hill that Bob Dylan is one of the most overrated musicians of all time, but I did enjoy this album more than I thought I would. There were some well-written lyrics, and catchy ballads. It still didn't blow me away though. Favorite song on the album: "Ballad of a Thin Man".

Rolling stone is a fantastic song but every other song was not great.

Not my favorite Dylan album, but definitely a very influential one. Key tracks: Like a Rolling Stone Ballad of a Thin Man Desolation Row

Quite interesting

Classic.

I was familiar with "Like a Rolling Stone", which is an anthem. I didn't know the rest. Dylan has good energy, but it's mostly about the words, less about the melodies, and I care more about the latter.

Surprised to find an album where Dylan's singing doesn't make me cringe and want to plug my ears. Not only is 'Like a Rolling Stone' a classic that holds up, but I enjoyed 'Queen Jane Approximately' too. Ultimately a bit too much harmonica to really dig this, but didn't mind it overall - with 2 stand out tracks.

Better than his others

Interesting lyrics, although I'm not always sure what they mean... there might be references I am not old enough to know. Generally I liked it, although by the end I was ready to not hear his distinctive voice and any more harmonica.

Solid, but the Dylan voice and the harmonica get a bit repetitive.

Solid, but the Dylan voice and the harmonica get a bit repetitive.

Heard this before, but not for a while. Like a Rolling Stone is one of the great rock songs. Listening to it today I was surprised to hear the nice piano and guitar fills. Intersting to think what it might sound like if the "wall of sound" was turned down a touch and had a more balanced mix. I liked the rest of this more than I expected. Dylan sounds like he's having a lot of fun on this album, despite the cynical lyrics. "Aw, you never turned around to see the frowns On the jugglers and the clowns when they all did tricks for you"

Had this on vinyl years ago. Some tracks were better than I remembered (like Desolation Row) but others seemed to drag a bit.

6/10 Move on Bob. 7-27-2024

Not the best

Dylan is an amazing lyricist, decent musician and terrible singer. I can appreciate this album for its poetry, and for a musician reinventing himself, but not much else.

Rambled too much for my liking and that harmonica really wears me down, but I liked a lot here.

It's good to that time but it is not my style.

Ágætis plata og Böb þolanlega áhlustanlegur.

Okay I absolutely liked this more than the previous Bob Dylan album I listened to (Blonde on Blonde). I’m still not blown away, but the whole listening experience was fine and there were a handful of songs I’d listen to again. I guess that’s a win enough for me after not really liking the last one.

Am I hearing an organ? That's so unusual. Bob can be a little squeaky, but he puts emotion into it. His vocals don't feel as stilted as some other, similar musicians. YouTube ads that were served to me while listening to this album on YouTube: Facebook

As with all Bob Dylan I've come across on this list, I understand that cultural and historical importance of this music. I don't mind listening to the occasional Bob Dylan song here and there. But the incessant harmonica across an entire album becomes unbearable.

56%. На 7-8 пойдет, но все ещё не могу подружиться с Бобом Диланом.

STANDOUTS: Like A Rolling Stone OVERALL: 2.5/5; I can see how you could like this but it's not my thing.

Again it's one of those "I had no idea this was the guy who made that song" moments. Dylan never really struck a nerve with me, but it's undeniable how big he was and still is.

I learned to stop worrying that I would never understand what the words mean. Enjoy the music and... even... that nasal, droning voice. It's all a beautiful reaction to the world that Bob was living in at the time. And it's a beautiful reaction to the world now, too.

Wish I could say I love what is almost universally considered a seminal masterpiece. Instead for me it's just fine.

Sometimes it’s awesome and sometimes his harmonica is like fingernails on a chalkboard

3.75. Think I just don’t like this man that much. Lyricism good, but eh

The best songs were It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry, Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues and Desolation Row. Though the last one is a bit long.

It's Dylan. Some might say classic Dylan.

Good listening, but it peaks at the first track and doesn't quite return to those heights. Might have been the speakers I listened on, but some harmonica parts sounded a weirdly off key.

I liked the music but I can’t stand his voice.

Didn't enjoy it as much as Freewheelin' but was still good. Will have to give it another listen.

This bloke released some albums. I think if he had have focused on less output but higher quality he would’ve released something much better. Highway 61 is a decent album nonetheless.

This album has Like a Rolling Stone on it, which is the only Bob Dylan song I could name off the top of my head. I haven't heard any of the others before but I like them! My favorite song by far was It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry. The album definitely felt a little played out by the end, I was getting a little tired of Bob's voice. I'd listen to a few of these songs again! 6/10

Didn't hate it

legal, mas não é pra mim. A gaita mais incomoda que acrescenta

A couple of songs were good and made some sense. A lot of these songs just seem to be rambling about nothing. At least you could understand most of Bob’s words on this album.

Overhyped but still good. There are better Bobil Dylano albums out there. Ballad of the Thin Man is excellent, though.

it has the banger but the others are alright too

Yeah, this was good and chill.

I liked this more than Blonde on Blonde. Like a rolling stone is fantastic. It feels pretty good. But man, I find Dylan a little tough when you get past the hits. The meandering stories just get a little old for me. Halfway through Ballad of a Thin Man, I was thinking “what in the holy hell is he talking about? Midget? Can we still say that?”

I enjoyed this SO MUCH MORE than Blonde on Blonde, and I don't know why.

Songs all sound same I’m not a huge Dylan fan, it’s basically country with huge hype 2/3***

Carino, non ho ascoltato tutto

It's about Dylan album. It's exactly what you expect like rolling Stone is one of he's most listenable songs. The whole album is enjoyable

Muy buen blues, pero no me emociona salvo dos o tres temas

Not a country fan but it was Okk

I always want to like Bob Dylan more than I actually do when I listen. I appreciate the songwriting and historical significance, but these usually aren’t tunes that I would just throw on when I’m picking my own music.

I'm clearly either a basic bitch or the lyrics are all just verbal diarrhea trying to sound deep. 3

Un poco rollo.

bob dylan bob dylan bob dylan bob

Couple memorable songs but in general not a huge Dylan fan.

I’m conflicted. on one hand objectively Bob Dylan is a bad singer. The guitar is out of tune and the harmonica is obnoxious. The lyrics are drunken nonsense. on the other hand, there’s not this obsession with perfection that is so present among music of the modern age that it’s actually almost refreshing to hear a recording that is as imperfect and sort of fireside personal as highway 61. You can also hear a lot of Rolling Stones/British invasion influence.

Dylan went electric

I have lowkey been liking the Dylan in here 3.5

His grating voice detracts from the supposed lyrical genius. But I appreciate the sweet instrumental details.

While no doubt a vivid lyricist, I found most of the content difficult to connect with, or frankly, care about. Tonally there's not much variation from song to song, although there's certainly talent behind the musical performance and arrangements. Listened to: walking around Keyport at dusk. Favorite track: The Thin Man

I really wasn't looking forward to this one. Not after the Royal Albert Hall live album. But. This one is actually alright. Lots of bended/stretched vowels, which combined with his limited vocal range gets a bit tiresome after a while. Still. Quite alright even if you don't listen to the lyrics that closely all the time.

I’m looking forward to more Bob Dylan on this list. This one was just okay. The harmonica was quite shrill all over this album, making for an unnecessarily difficult listen.

4/10 un álbum con un sonido que después de un tiempo se vuelve aburrido y monótono

Very nice relaxing
