Reviews (page 8 of 13)

LOVE this music!

Música Jazz/Big band. Muy chula.

Super nice 50s cabarety vibes

I actually listened to this twice! I enjoyed it quite a lot. I felt it was very lyrical music, but didn't require a singer

Songs:

Excellent

Tanaka will like this, and likely know this

Mums riktigt härlig legacy jazz! Vissa låtar man känner igen till och med, Flight of the Foo Birds, Lil’ Darlin. Perfekt laga-mat-musik!

50's Fallout vibes

Brilliant stuff. Listened in bed and it was perfect. Mellow, nostalgic. Reminded me of old school radio shows, very atmospheric.

50s big band. So great

A good jazzy big band record.

This was a great discovery!

YES! Unfiltered, authentic, unquestionably brilliant JAZZ from the one and only Count Basie. These arrangements own, Basie’s playing is perfect, it’s all great.

Much more fun than I was expecting 🙂

Surprised by this a really good big band jazz album

good, if a bit jazzy

knows whern to be loud, knows when to takle it slow i like.

Another one to file under "big band jazz albums that I can appreciate but can't see myself ever loving". That said, this was a nice, pleasant listen, I'd have no qualms if it were to soundtrack certain activities as background music 😉.

Good jazz, but nothing stands out

There's great music here from start to finish with an appealing big band jazz sound I rarely hear outside of a late night show band. I see they even have a song called The Late, Late Show on the bonus reissue. I like the songs best when I can focus on what the piano or bass is doing. At some point, it really just sounds like two songs -- the fast one and the slow one. Strong music here, but I only really need a couple tracks at a time.

I can't say I know anything about swing music. This isn't the type of music that I seek out, but I can tell that today's record is very well made. There is so much energy on here and it sounds explosive as the bold artwork implies. Those drum fills are magnificent. It never felt overly indulgent and was easy to digest to someone who doesn't listen to a lot of jazz. I'm less keen on the quieter parts and just wanted to hear the band really go for it. I'm sure this record soundtracked many great nights of a long forgotten era before rock music took over.

The occasional sprawl is interesting and I love the way he plays however it does fall flat sometimes and does sound typical.

Never heard this album. Fantastic

Enjoyable / very listenable big band / swing album

I feel sure I've never listened to a full Basie release in its original form before — I have heard many recordings, but they've all been on compilations or playlists. It's interesting to hear tracks all recorded on a couple of consecutive days in the mid-50s. The band is very good; there's a restraint in some of this that seems to indicate a power that's being controlled very tightly.

Swing swing swing.

A fun swing album, and a unique time capsule.

family guy music

Lil darling was beautiful, generally not my type of music, first few tracks were just abusing (trumpets) honestly idk what instrument was blasting.

3 decent don't think i'll listen to again trumpets are too overpowering

Just some good ol jazz.

Favorite Track: Midnite Blue Least Favorite Track: After Supper

A remarkable album from a black artist who perfectly represents jazz music. Almost 68 years ago it sounds so fresh despite the fact it is classic album !! “Lost one night in an alley in New York while it's raining and you listen to the wonderful lil darling (maybe my favorite from the album) from an underground bar... you go in, order a glass of wine and sit down to enjoy ur drink while listening to Basie's melodies...”

Not bad to listen to at all.

Really really okay for an instrumental album - got surprisingly good entertainment out of it during some strenuous work tasks.

I don’t think I necessarily need a full album but I do love listening to it

I don’t care what kind of music you make, you’re not living up to that cover.

Nice enough, Sunday night low impact niceness. Maybe a little bland against what's produced 70 years on but fine for its genre

I have a lot of respect for big band and the soloists can be explosive, but it just doesn’t move me that much. I suspect it’s because this music was created for nightlife- for live performance, for dancing to- and without the electricity of people coming together it just doesn’t work as well, or at least it’s hard for a modern listener like me to grasp the emotions. Still, it can be fun to have on once in a while.

Interesting

Pros: The orchestra is really tight. Exceptional performances all around. The slower numbers are lovely, the more energetic ones are exciting. A good party album. Cons: Every up-tempo song sounds the same; every down-tempo song sounds the same. THREE STARS

...page deleted my notes :-( Decent but very 1958 big-band. 3/5

It's fine.

Classic big band music. No notes.

Very good

I think it’s been giving me too much jazz recently, I’m completely jazzed out. I’m sure this was good, but it just felt so standard and it was like the most nothing jazz I’ve heard. Like it’s not poorly done, but that somehow makes it worse, like if it was bad, at least I’d have something to talk about. But this was just a kind of nothing experience. Favorites: Duet, Double-O, Lil’ Darlin’

Pretty decent jazz. Not my favorite but a good listen nonetheless.

Big sound. One you have to sit down and listen to.

Very nice jazz album, I like it just as much as the muddy waters album but i think im into instruments more than vocals most of the time

My son loves this but it's not a patch on Louis Armstrong

Cover art for this album is wild. Not generally a huge fan of big band swing, but you’ve got to give credit. A very listenable album.

Not bad in small bursts but I don't think I'll listen to the album in the future.

Agradable

Hot diggity dog!

Not my jam, but sounded okay

pretty okay. i can imagine having a great time dancing to this in a party setting but it seems more functional than anything

3 out of 5. Fun album and well produced.

Cool album cover. Not my thing but not unpleasant. Chilled, soft background music

Love me some good jazz Less in love with big band

Ok background music!

Previously unknown. Enjoyable.

fun. music i dont mind hearing at a random restaurant. 3.5

Great instrumental work. Has many peaks and valleys and creates a beautiful jazz soundscape. But it does go much beyond that

Jazz cool

Good big band music.

Fun. Catchy. I heard styles that had influenced later music (i.e., TV theme songs).

Se deja escuchar de fondo!

Nothing super crazy, but good. Lil Darlin was amazing.

Not sure why I had it in my head that this was some strange 90s pastiche but it’s the real thing!! I actually enjoyed it a lot!

imagine of the costco guys found out about this. the booms would be out of control

Really liked this jazzy celebration

Easy and pleasant listening.

I mean its all right like. Cool hes from red bank tho

Decent 3,5

Yeah this is Jazz Fave track: Splanky

Snazzy!

Truly enjoyable big band music that I had never before heard. The music ranges from upbeat and toe tapping to dramatic, slow, and orchestral. Great variety throughout the album and fun music all around.

Classic of the Genre, and I love the 50's atomic vibe. It does demand your full attention though!

Solid jazz album. Love the older recording here, sounds like you are in the room.

Prior to being assigned this, I've heard the name Count Basie but that's it. I don't consciously know any of his songs nor have any liked on Spotify. Thoughts after listening 3 times ... I kept thinking at least one of these songs would pop out as something that I had heard before - just by existing in the world. Maybe from movies or TV or commercials etc. But none of them did. The closest thing I can compare this to would be Lyle Lovett and his Large Band which I know and like and have even seen him in concert. Lyle adds lyrics that are often fun and interesting - so maybe that adds to the appeal for this kind of music. I did end up liking 5 songs that I will be looking forward to hearing on my playlists. Liked songs are: "The Kid from Red Bank", "Teddy The Toad", "Whirly Bird", "Midnight Blue", and "Splanky". Liked songs on Spotify: 5/11 Rating: 3/5

this score is entirely based on historical context, not my personal enjoyment Would I listen again: if I was born in the 40s, this would slap Deserves to be on this list: maybe 3.4

cool jazzy shit

This stressed me out ngl

First song a bit film-scorey for me. I'm enjoying the coolness of the second song a lot - very James Bond in a way. The third song is even more subtle, which I'm not sure I'm attuned to yet. The fourth song is more upbeat, very much enjoying it after the quietude of track three - still, I don't know that bigger jazz like this is my thing. Onto the fifth song, it's fun, but I'm not so into that classic jazz 'walking up and down' double bass line - I would put this in a similar category to the last song, but it's definitely more interesting, and I like it more. Teddy the Toad was interesting, but not very. Whirly-Bird definitely leans more into the big band element of things, which, again, I'm not a huge fan of. I like a more subtle jazz number, though not so subtle as track three. Really enjoying Midnite Blue - super sexy and fun, slow-building and then explosive - might be my favourite so far, but I'll go back to Duet just to be sure. Splanky and Fantail weren't particularly inspiring to me, as a non-big-band-lover, but they were certainly fun. The final song, Lil' Darlin' is sweet and slow, and quite a lovely closer. The best tracks were Duet and Midnite Blue, the worst were The Kid from Red Bank and After Supper. 7/10 overall, I reckon.

This is not what I expected upon seeing the album cover. But I do like the big-band grandeur.

Just not a fan of the horns.

A fantastically clean orchestra sound with the full complement of instruments. Blaring horns, stylish drum beats, and dancing piano keys fill each song and keep things light-hearted and upbeat. Very cool listen and addition to this experiment.

The ball, the boot, the bell and the bowtie. Every single Chicken McNugget will come in one of these shapes. Yes, there can be slight variations and imperfections, but it’s always predictable and recognizable as a ball, a boot, a bell or a bowtie because it’s made with a preformed shape die, like a cookie cutter but for chicken. Now, this Count Basie album predates the McNugget by about 20 years but the music follows the same recipe - predictable, cookie cutter jazz. There’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just boring with the same old shapes showing up all the time. It’s a display of great musicianship, but on forgettable tunes from a genre as dead as the chickens at the McFactory Farm. Like a McNugget, it leaves you wishing you had made a better decision.

Big band jazz is pretty awesome stuff. Each component is interesting on it own, but when weaved together into an ensemble you really do get a little bit of magic.

fun! enjoy a good jazz album

Not quite right for my commute, need to be enjoyed while unwinding with a scotch.

This album and sun outside makes you feel like there are no worries in the world.

ya like jazz? seriously though, i enjoyed this way more than i thought

This album reminds me of that scene in Spider-Man 3 where Peter Parker starts cutting shapes with Gwen Stacy at the jazz bar Mary Jane is working at to make her jealous

The musicians on this album are absolutely phenomenal and I appreciate their talent, but this style is not my thing. Still, this was an enjoyable listen.

Alright, not a fan of the slow tracks

First jazz album I listened to. Very upbeat and fun

I don’t know much jazz -

Beautiful

I don't know why I got back to back jazz albums. This one sounded very similar to the Miles Davis one I had and both came out around the same time. This is not as good as that one but isn't really bad in any way.

Pleasant to listen to whilst cooking reminds me of cartoons flinstones ren and stumpy I’m sure count Basie would hate me saying that soz

not bad even though I couldnt sing along. I dont quire understand what was special about it though.

Big band swing, though not something I'd typically reach for, is something I can certainly appreciate both in terms of the songwriting and arrangements as well as the musicianship. It was a fun 40 minutes, never dull and didn't outstay its welcome. Happy to listen to it but whether I'd actively revisit remains a question.

Just not my thing, so difficult for me to judge too harshly

Nice jazz collection- good background music.

Nice as background music

Old times jazz

No shade against big band music but you could have played a dozen such albums like this and I would be hard-pressed to guess which one made it to the 1001 list. I do like the jocular attitude towards nuclear war on the cover which was a bit of a surprise.

While I love jazz, I'm not quite as big on the more big-band and swing stuff. Still not bad by any means.

Enjoyed it

No complaints about this! I enjoyed it. Easy to listen to. The sound is big and ambitious. Really cool solos too! They're doing a lot with each instrument, giving everyone in the group a moment to shine.

This album wasn’t really my style of music (a bit too jazzy), but wasn’t a difficult listen either.

It's good, don't get me wrong but I'm not a fan of big band as much as modal jazz. I ultimately feel like it doesn't age well. Listened on repeat for the better part of two hours and it served well as background, but I'm not sure any tracks make it to my jazz playlist. still better than Moby

I liked it but not sure when I will really listen to it again

3,5 stars

Good, easy to work to!

Above average big band album. I'll give it a 6/10

An enjoyable album with nice changes of pace throughout. High 3

Fun, triumphant, enjoyable. High 3

This is a charming listen and one that is impossible to dislike. There is a dash of old school Hollywood about Count Basie’s performance which feels stylish, fresh, energetic and good humoured.

Count Basie is getting a solid to high 3 from me today, it’s not my type of jazz but as far as swing and big band goes it’s pretty great

A sweet & old-fashioned little jazz record.

Very surprising! I enjoyed my time with it

(4/7) dude forgot to write the words

A big band that plays some swing jazz. As I'm not fond of big band usualy I was a bit afraid of what was to come but in the end it's quite enjoyable. Favorite Songs: After Supper ; Teddy the toad

Perfectly pleasant and enjoyable. I'm not really a jazz fan but there's enough here to keep me interested. It's got a fairly diverse range of songs and I feel like I recognise some of these tracks, perhaps from use in tv and film.

I do love abit of the jazzy but I dont think I could listen to it with no singing maybe if im eating in the resturant or something I feel like im in the roblox resturant

I've to fall in love with Jazz but this is pretty good

What beautiful classical and cheerful music this is.

There's no denying Count Basie's massive talent and influence on music. Big band just isn't my thing. Sounds a bit too much like supper club music to my ears. Not bad, just not something I'd choose to listen to regularly.

Good stuff! Makes me think of black and white movies, and a club filled with movie stars!

A mushroom cloud on the cover of a 1958 jazz album? I don't know about that. I wonder how that was received. Musically however this was a great album. I thought dynamics were used very well, especially in the horns. I love the soft horn accents and intermittent horn stabs, and their voicings are rich. The melodies from the horns were unique and memorable as well. I think I liked this a little bit more than the Ray Charles album, but I'm gonna give it the same score because of the cover. 7/10

FUNKY FRESH INSTRU pour le matin

Actually quite lovely as background music

Best Track - "Splanky"

This was a bit of fun but it didn’t feel groundbreaking. But it’s 2026, maybe it did feel groundbreaking in 1958. But for me it would need to be influential to be special and I can’t specifically pinpoint things this has influenced so it isn’t more than mid for me.

honestly really like the jazz here, very relaxing

didn’t think i would like this but it was actually alright. sounds from a different time was nice to listen to 3.5

Decent.

Hmm BigBand music not a favourite of mine. Other jazz took me places bit this was just back ground music.

Delightful

Listened to this at work tired and frustrated so i felt very overwhelmed 😭 it brings energy most of the time which felt like a lot, and overall this is not my style of music. but i can see the musical genius behind it so i respect

With this genre of music, I feel I need a visual accompaniment. Reminded me of when I watched the Lawrence Welk show with a woman I aided at the end of her life. She'd burst with happiness to watch the cast dance to any of these songs. I wouldn't know how to appropriately rate this. It'd be marvelous to see live.

Alright; I'm not a huge fan of swing but this was an okay listen, nothing very special.

Nice Jazz background music

good, interesting. Not really needed. 3 *

3/5 stars. Wouldn’t change a thing

yeah, this was fun! that's all I have to say. was good for homework time

Good big band jazz, I don't have much else to say!

Rating this for the 3rd time now, I’ve rated it, lowered it, and then went even higher than the initial rating, so I think my initial thoughts about it not being memorable were maybe incorrect.

I don't listen to much Jazz so i don't quite know how to rate it. I'm not really a jazz fan so i don't get much from listening to albums but this one sounded nice??

1001 Albums Generator 232 (2/20/2026) The Atomic Mr. Basie is an album that jumps from fun, bombastic big band to sleepy cool jazz many times across its short run time. It also has perhaps the best album cover of any album from the 50's. Songs like The Kid from Red Bank, Flight of the Foo Birds, Double-O, and Whirly-Bird are all super fun, with both Basie's piano and Frank Foster's saxophone consistently being the stars. However, the slow songs here really detract from the album's overall quality. I would say the good and bad moments balance each other out. 3.5/5, rounded down to 3. Favs: The Kid from Red Bank Flight of the Foo Birds Whirly-Bird Least Fav: After Supper

Mmm, musica de cine

decent big band record. not my type of music, but appreciated the album.

This started off with a bang and remained ok.

it was unexpected and fun

It seems like it's been a long time since I've had a good jazz album on this list so this one is very welcome today. Not a lot to say about this one, it's great big band and exactly what you would expect from Count Basie. Probably not the best big band album out there but solid nonetheless. And a very strange cover for this kind of music. 3.5/5 but rounding down.

That is some heavy music, and yet danceable. Would love to have been in the room to feel this band move air.

a nice old jazz album that sends you on a journey

Rating mostly based on how hard the album art goes.

i like jazz but i couldnt listen to the whole album

Not the biggest fan of Jazz, but I think it was alright. Favorite song: Midnight Blue.

I quite enjoyed this, some big band, swing/jazz that feels like something my grandparents might have listened to, and maybe because I’ve just finished watching the 2nd series, but I can’t help thinking of Fallout with the atomic explosion on the cover and the fact this was released in the 50s. When I first was served the album, my instinct was this was going to be some form of rap / hip hop artist with a name like Count Basie, but the 1958 release date soon quelled those thoughts. Not something I can imagine myself choosing to listen to again but nonetheless, enjoyable.

Opening track is a banger but the album loses momentum as it goes on. Some solid playing here but swing isn't totally my thing. I prefer the modular jazz of Miles Davis or fusion. Still, a decent listen.

Fine to study to, but that's about it

Pretty good as background music

I first encountered Count Basie on a mix tape that was given to me at school. It started with Nile and ended with Sigur Ros. This was pleasant enough but started to get repetitive. It worked better as part of a mixtape. Also, I don’t think there has ever been a greater disconnect between an album cover and the music on the album.

I thought it was going to be 50s slop, but it is actually quite nice jazz. Not anything mind-blowing, it's good ambience music to have in the background while you're doing something else. Most liked: Double-O Most disliked: Midnite Blue

Haven't heard of him before. From the very first minute it felt like I'm the main character in an old animated series about to commit acts of absolute tomfoolery. There were also some more standard jazz tunes on this album too but overall it was quite fun 3/5

Old school orchestra was pretty ok

oh reviewer do you remember going into the pieces thinking "my moot kinda digs jazz and especially digs swing" trying to finish these things and fell in love with them. its now his 3 in the morning and you struggle to finish your homework, letting out the longest sigh ever and throw your pen away. the music rushed in at the last minutes before your 5pm and you lie frustrated on the bed, with the bombastic jazz tunes in your ears, whole body stressed out. looking at his social media, seeing his fanart and sighed over your posts that nobody ever read. the music became blend and so is your life, syncopated with expectations in and out of the beat, sometimes loud and cheery and sometimes calm until you have fallen behind. 3/5

olive gatden

A really enjoyable listen. Not much stands out aside from Whirly-Bird but I don't feel like it needs to, flows super nicely. Also, very funny to me to imagine this being someone's favorite album ever made. Just a dude who can't get enough of this.

Enjoyable, but I'm not going to be rushing to relisten. It's a solid 3, but doesn't have "the sauce" of a 4 IMO.

I imagine this album would have made a much bigger impact hearing it for the first time in 1958, but almost 70 years later in 2026, it's still a very enjoyable listen. I can't help but think of the movie "Whiplash" when I hear this type of big band jazz/swing music. The precision in the playing and in the orchestration is amazing. As someone who plays a few instruments, it's impossible to not be impressed by the talent of the musicians. The rhythm section in particular. Not to gloss over the the piano, sax and trumpet sections, which are just as impressive, in a looser sort of way, but the bass and drum musicians really caught my attention. The drum fills are fantastic, and the bass moves all over the fretboard at a frantic pace, both somehow always remaining the solid backbone of the tracks. I enjoyed all the music, and if I were to see something like this live, I'd be very impressed. But as an album in 2026? Enjoyable, but not ground-breaking and it didn't really stick with me. Impressive playing throughout, easy to appreciate in the moment, but not something I feel the urge to rush back to.

Great. There's times when he's really using the power of a big band. Other times it sound like three blokes in the corner of a room - unnecessary when you've got them all together!

1950s jazz. I don't know what else to say.

Listened while baking and it felt very old-timey and matched the happy kitchen vibes, sometimes no lyrics is nice

Feels old school. Easy listenin

I listened to this album the second I opened my eyes this morning, and it set me up perfectly for my day. It’s such a an easy listen, I visited it a few times. Some times I was able just to switch off and have it as an ambience and other times it really made me think about every note that was being played. It takes something special to be able to achieve both of these different ways of listening. I’m going to point out the obvious and say what serious amount of talent the musicians had on this record and how they beautifully complimented each other’s sounds and styles. We need to thank the jazz musicians of back then for what we have today. So much has came from early jazz, including playing styles and hip hop samples. A record like this will always stay timeless because who knows when a producer will hear it for the first time and hear something no one else has, and then you have the next big hit of the year. Favourite tracks are: ‘The Kid From Red Bank’ and ‘Fantail’.

high three

Not really my genre but very well done.

Listened to it twice and it was a great listen that I would listen to again, gut, much like all jazz, not something that I would choose to sit down and listen to as opposed to something that I would play in the background. Still a solid listen and good album. 3.5 stars

Makes me want to eat very tiny food and pay lots of money for not enough drink

Solid album. Added to my jazz playlist

1/22/26. Impressed with the sound, might be the oldest album on this journey so far! Will definitely require multiple listens, but love the piano playing and melodies that take you for a ride. Cool swing style as well.

Very jazz but I actually liked it

Fun. Most of the songs sounded the same. Nothing too special.

Kul 50-tals big band jazz.

Old timey music is very much not my forte. But there were some cool moments with nice piano playing.

A see this album as a turning point. A transition if you will from the big band jazz sound of the 40s and 50s, to the more cool/bop jazz sound of the 60s. I can hear elements of both. It’s good, it didn’t blow me away but I can certainly understand and appreciate the significance.

Love swing jazz

I know this is classic big band jazz, but at the point it just all sounds very generic to me. Not bad, just nothing that I would choose to listen to.

A very solid and representative big band record from the late 1950s. The highlights are the arrangements: sharp, elegant, and driven by a steady groove that keeps everything tightly locked in. The orchestra sounds compact and precise, with strong riffs and an excellent sense of balance throughout. That said, the album feels quite uniform from start to finish. There are no major surprises or dramatic shifts in mood or style, which makes it consistently enjoyable but ultimately limits its impact, leaving it a bit dull. Well suited for a light study session. Listened to the 1994 Roulette Jazz CD catalog number "7243 8 28635 2 6". Solid master overall. 6/10 While I enjoyed it, it’s not an album I’d actively choose to revisit in full.

qué les parece la música de fondoop

Good but a little dull after a while

Bombastic and bold. I can appreciate it, but it’s not my style of jazz. I definitely dig the album cover.

Surprisingly enjoyable for being doodly doodly clarinets and saxes over the most taking-it-for-a-walk basslines.

perfect album to go about your life pretending you have a soundtrack, works for literally every activity

putting this on the list of "Jazz Albums for Dinner Parties I'll Never Throw"

Every once in a while we walked up to big band sound territory and I got a little excited. Overall fine.

Kjenningsmelodier

I like the vibe. Mr Basie has some talent.

Rating: 7/10 All around enjoyable and pleasant listen, I like the arrangements and such

Take a trumpet mix in a drum set bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes you get a neat but mostly forgettable 39 minutes of jazz 6.0/10

Big beat manifesto

please 1001 albums. i want an album that was made since the vietnam war ended. Also I was a jazz kid from ages 12 to 18. and like its good jazz but it doesn't make me feel anything ya know? I lied. I played Flight of the Foo Birds for my last Jazz concert of middle school. It took me right back. I miss my saxophone. 3 stars

This album made me want to get more into jazz! Listened to some of his other stuff with frank Sinatra and loved it.

Big band jazz that can be great if you're in the right frame of mind, not so great if you associate tea room orchestras with it. This album is about trimness, not excess, every note is counted for and every note matters. Best Tracks: Flight of the Foo Birds; Splanky; Lil' Darlin'

Yea this is quite good. Excellent piano too. But overall it got a little boring by the second half and didn’t really enjoy it all that much by the end. Didn’t dislike. But didn’t like all that much either. Album cover is sick though.

Probably the best jazz album so far for my tastes. But the ceiling for jazz is still a 3 for me.

Just pleasant smooth jazz/swing

I don't like jazz (so far), but I do like big band and swing so this was an interesting test of which position won out. I enjoyed a ton of this album because I love the sound of muted trumpets (Duet was great). Nothing was too long and outstayed it's welcome, though I tended to enjoy the more up tempo tracks that the slower ones (After Supper and Midnite Blue were a bit too plodding for me). I liked the drummer going a bit Animal from the Muppets during Flight of the Foo Birds. I think I knew Splanky from somewhere, and I can't work out where, but it was one of my favourites on the album. Very 1950s Las Vegas, it just sounded cool. I can't actually ever imagine I'll sit down and listen to this again (I'm learning through this project that I need lyrics and an interesting vocalist for repeat listens) but I did enjoy it. 3.5 stars would be my ideal, but I'm going for: 3/5

The Kid from Red Bank - 3.5/5 Duet - 3/5 After Supper - 2.5/5 Flight of the Foo Birds - 4/5 Double-O - 3.5/5 Teddy the Toad - 3/5 Whirly-Bird - 3.5/5 Midnite Blue - 3/5 Splanky - 3/5 Fantail - 3.5/5 Lil' Darlin' - 2.5/5

It’s fine I guess

So. I'm not a fan of jazz. Has this album done enough to win me over? Maybe not, but I didn't feel like I had to turn it off. Perhaps because it segued into almost James Bond & Police Squad theme music at times so there was familiarity there.

Not a genre I've listened to often or intently, so I don't have much for reference points. I enjoyed this well enough.

Was very vibey and great as background music

3/5 Real nice jazzy album. Mr Basie IS atomic.

Mostly the orchestra part

Classical music, very inclined to the jazzier side of music. Sounds like a good warm cup of coco on a winter day in new york during Christmas. Makes me feel old school and theatrical especially with other albums by him.

good to listen to in the background, not my cup of tea

Not personally wild about the "Big Band" swing but this has some good stuff

Rein instrumental.

This was alright

Swing e gøy men ikkje førr mæ egentlig

It was okay

Not what I’d expect based on the cover art. There should be a saying about not making those sorts of snap judgements.

With some big band music you feel like if one person were to play a wrong note the leader would crush them like a bug. This however feels like they are all just having fun.

Jazz is not my personal favorite but there is no denying the talent and skill of Count Basie. I probably won't pick it up it again, but I am better off knowing that this exists.

I don't know much about jazz but this was easy to listen to and fun. Whirly Bird caught my attention. I'm not sure I will listen again.

Atmospheric music with interesting use of instruments. I liked the double bass in Duet and the brass instruments. Would be good background music.

Have I said I don't like jazz? Now at least big band jazz is fun. It's a bit much, but it's fun. Like Pere Ubu I was slightly disappointed again this was American and not something a bit more roots. But for jazz it was listenable.

Not generally what I gravitate to but loved the change up. 3.5

Not my vibe but the instrumentals are all fenomenal

It was good. I like jazz and enjoyed it very much. Nothing more to add.

Made me remember to sign up for Lindy Hop sometime, so that's worth a lot. Not my thing to just listen to on its own though. Faves: Flight of the Foo Birds, Whirly-Bird, Splanky

More like a grenade than a bomb.

very lovely easy listen so refreshing after all that crap

Orchestra isn’t my favorite genre. But this was cool

Do you like big band jazz? Here is some big band jazz for you to like. I admittedly don't have enough familiarity with the genre to really be able to hear what was allegedly revolutionary about this but it's consistently fun and that counts for something.

oh so that’s not the genre i expected. i never listen to jazz so this being the first recommendation is quite cool since i would’ve never listened to it on my own!! feels nice before christmas + i need upbeat music at the moment love the cover art music to listen to while doing stuff but liked it!!

Don't often listen to swing. Paired it with some 50s book. Flow was very pleasing, It was a nice experience.

not my vibe but it was good

My dad told me that this song genre is called big band jazz I like it!
