Reviews (page 2 of 15)
A huge album that I remember coming out when I was 10 or so. Pumped out of glaring noisy rooms everywhere, an absolute classic
A masterpiece. Oasis are at the funny point that most overplayed and extremely popular bands find themselves in: they seem a bit naff. But when you judge the album on a song by song basis there’s no doubt they can write catchy era defining music. It’s not perfect: She’s Electric has some of the best/worst lyrics of all time and the opening track is weak. But pound for pound this has to be one of the greatest albums of all time.
Not much to say - just full of bangers. Of its time, but what a time that was. Prime cuts: Don't Look Back in Anger, She's Electric, Champagne Supernova.
Amazing
SOOOOOO SALLY CAN WAIT
LOVE IT
classic beatle-esque sound!
great album
pretty good album IMO
Great album, every song is a hit. Great start for the challenge.
Favourite Oasis tunes
For us late gen-Xer's this album was ubiquitous mid-90's music. Probably one of the top 100 albums of all time. 5/5
Listening with fresh ears, this record is a total stunner with one great song after another. I was playing the 20th anniversary reissue and kept rolling through all the bonus tracks. The b-sides from this album ("Step Up", "Talk Tonight", etc.) are strong enough to make up their own album (which they are, it's called the Masterplan).
I didn't realize the impact that oasis had on music in the 90s other than the wonderwall joke. I had fun diving into the music and listening to their story and what the britpop scene was all about
I could listen to this again and again.
One of the most iconic albums of all time.
Automatic 5 stars because I already own this album, and it’s one of my favourites. I love Oasis. There’s not a single weak song on this album. This is the fifth album I’ve been assigned that I already knew.
Having heard quite a few of the tracks already, pleased to report the others are about as solid. Tired of Wonderwall but would be lying if I said I didn’t sing along to it
A classic. They’ve got a huge sound that must have been great in stadiums. You can put this on in the background and jam out or pay closer attention because the songwriting is excellent too. Liam Gallagher sounds great singing these big, John Lennon-esque melodies with a little added sneer. These are beautiful songs and he gives them a little extra rock edge. Oasis might be the only band I know to include transitional instrumental tracks on an album that rock instead of being slow, mood-setters. I love that. A lot of great songs but I think "Don't Look Back in Anger" is my favorite.
It's a wildly good pop / pop-rock album. Despite it's current place in the world as a meme song, Wonderwall is one of the best pop acoustic guitar songs of all time, and both "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Champagne Supernova" could be single one-hit wonders that could make another artist's complete career- and Oasis have all three of them on one album. That factor alone makes this album a 5/5 for me, and yet there's still more tracks on the album that are fantastic, like "She's Electric" and "Some Might Say". (side note- if i'm recalling correctly, this is the first time i'm hitting consecutive 5 out of 5's!)
I had this album when it came out and played it to death. Haven't listened to it in years and didn't have the urge to. I've really enjoyed going back though. It's well made good indie \ britpop. Stand out tracks Don't look back in anger Champagne supernova Cast not shadow
I really loved this one. I probably didn't give Oasis enough credit when they came out with this one. Solid.
Really enjoyed this, especially the strong finish with She's Electric, Morning Glory, and Champagne Supernova. Sorry I missed it in the 90s.
A classic great rock album that I have loved for years! What can I say… it deserves all the praise. Favorite songs: Wonderwall, Cast No Shadow, Don’t Look Back In Anger, She’s Electric, Morning Glory, Champagne Supernova.
This is one of my most cherished memories from my childhood and youth, so I won’t act like I’m not gonna give it a straight up 5, but let’s see what I have to say about it 27 years later. Let’s start whit the cons: Yes, some of the the lyrics are a bit lazy or maybe Noel was just so confident about his work that did not care to polish them. Yes, the mixing is bloated and at times ridiculously loud (but yeah it kinda works!) …And I think that’s it! I don’t think I have anything bad to say about it. The album it is just so innocent, confident and honest in its (missed yes, but what an awesome try) aim to be the greatest rock n roll record of all time that it does deserve a place among the greatest. Remember those days? We could be waiting for the videos to air on MTV for ours and just be hypnotized by the huge rockstars they were, especially Liam, we could listen to Champagne Supernova all day long… Yes Wonderwall got bigger life (and a meme as all of the bigger than life things do), but it does not make it a bad song. Damn those were the days. We could go on revising the artistry of it all, but that’s the good thing about art, the important feel is the one you got from experiencing it the first time (even if as you get more experience your tastes refine). I got to see Oasis twice, Liam once (at Glasto) and Noel like 8 times and It is always a great experience, I sure wish I was in Knebworth back in 96 (I was 9 att) or could go to Knebworth in June but it’s just not in the cards… this is another big point to make in favor of it, it is music to be played and enjoyed live. Have you ever sang Don’t Look Back In Anger along with a crowd? Have you ever done it along with Noel Gallagher? Have you ever done it along with Liam? If the answer is yes, then I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. I read like 20 years ago a review that said they hoped that with the passing of time, Cast No Shadow would emerge as the crown gem from this album as it was the greatest song Oasis would have made. I don’t think that happened but I have always agreed that it is brilliant and a statement of the true genius of Noel Gallagher. Now, I know I said above something about the lyrics being lazy (the fishes and blisters an ovens and all that), but actually this album does have some lines to live by: “some might say, we will find a brighter day”. On my tombstone it will read “someday you will find me caught beneath the landslide, in a champagne supernova in the sky” even if it means nothing really lol. I have two copies of this album on vinyl, the dreadful 2014 re-issue (which will make you suffer so don’t buy it) and the much more superior 2009 re-issue. I hope a can get my hands on the original Creation version someday. For closing, doing this list I’ve encountered many records with extended versions and sometimes listen to the b-sides as part of the album, I think if people do that with this one are going to find weird how those songs Acquiesce or Masterplan are better than most of the album and no one talks about them. Noel should’ve kept those for Be Here Now… but that’s a story for another time.
04/22/2022 Filled with great songs. An absolute classic.
Champagne Supernova go hard
5/5
A monumental release from the one of the biggest bands of the 90s and 00s, there is an undeniable quality in Noel Gallagher's songwriting and he was fortunate to find a large audience willing to listen. I hadn't heard this for a while, but it's an album that instantly brings back so many good memories from my teen years, so there is a nostalgia element here. I suppose that's one of the great things about music. Loads of great songs here: 'Wonderwall', 'Don't Look Back In Anger', 'Some Might Say' and the absolute timeless 'Champagne Supernova'. PS. Geez, just realized this album really almost 30 years old!
Is this album flawless? No. But yet again it's another example of my subjective bias of 90s nostalgia! Enjoyed re-listening.
It's like a Best Of Compilation, but it's all on one album. Britpop at it's finiest, and some absolutly great songs.
How did an album with this many bangers get made?!
Just a great album
Perfection
Loved it! Knew much more than I thought
This is one of those albums where I haven't listened to it in probably 15 years, and yet I knew and sang along to every lyric. This was one of 3-4 albums around 7th or 8th grade that was just constantly on repeat. Great stuff.
Wonderwall's annoyance (but I'll still sing along dammit) and the pretentious of the brothers narcissism - this is still packed Fave Tracks "Don't Look Back in Anger" (Oasis's best song - fight me) "Morning glory"
What a bumpin' album. We've all heard the jokes about 'Wonderwall' or the greatest lyric of all time on 'Champagne Supernova', "Slowly walking down the hall...faster than a cannonball" (that's sarcasm), but putting all those aside, this album is simply a banger from beginning to end. 'Hello' is a terrific opening, capturing the overall energy and engaging feel practically all these songs have. 'Hey Now', 'Some Might Say' (A highlight for me, personally), 'Morning Glory' - this album is incredibly consistent, and one of those rare few where listening to it cover to cover is an absolute must.
Wow … just WOW!!! I forgot how good this album is. And clearly I used to listen to it ALOT because it’s been at least a decade if not more since I’ve listened and I still remember most of the words. This album is banger after banger. Unlike other albums, I don’t have a song that I don’t like or only think is average. I like every single song. This has me rethinking my personal album rankings. I can’t believe I essentially left this album behind. It wasn’t even in my library. WTF??!!?? GREAT. FUCKING. ALBUM.
I can listen to this entire album anytime.
Liam’s vocals are spot on. How lucky to have this uplifting anthemic music when I was 23. For me the Liam’s voice sounds of stella, the white noise guitars of speed. The songwriting is exceptional, it’s like a greatest hits album - only qualm is I think it could have been produced better, the guitars aren’t quite right. But that’s me looking back 25 years this is a ***** classic.
loved it
A+ 10/10 absolute banger. The only negative are the two interlude type songs, but as a whole it really works together. Excluding those two interludes, any of these songs would be a top 10 hit.
Loved this album in the 90's, still love it now. Nearly every track a classic. Supernova was my go to Jukebox pick, quality tune and long
Fantastic! Hear it all aloud!
Awesome album. Lots of hits on here but generally I really like the sound they pivoted to in this album versus definitely maybe.
Play Wonderwall
It's just full of hits and bangers, and a landmark album for Britpop and the 90s. Wore out this CD in my parents' 2002 Toyota Sienna. Special shoutout to She's Electric which is so damn good.
Where to begin? I could write for days about this album but my little hand would fail me. Catapulted the best band from the 90’s into immortality. Not many bands can follow up such a phenomenal first album with an album bigger and in some ways better. But oasis aren’t like many bands they are fucking brilliant. This was bonehead in his prime! Also without oasis we would never have got to hear the beauty that was beady eye. Never forget that! Ive just champagne supernova’d all over my self.
Good
I went into this thinking I was going to hate it. I've continued to listen to Definitely Maybe sporadically over the years but it's a long time since I've bothered with What's The Story. And maybe it is just nostalgia but I still really, really enjoyed it. So that's good.
In Canada, the release of this album was almost like Beatlemania 2. I don't think many folks had been paying attention to the Britpop evolution that had already started (including Oasis' release of Definitely Maybe the year before) but they definitely wanted to anoint Oasis as the new Beatles. That's a bit much but this is a damn good album. Far less brooding than the rest of rock at the time, the upbeat tempos and sound are great. What I like about early Oasis is that you can hear a full band - lots of guitar and bass layers, along with drums and the occasional piano. That was hugely influential for how rock (re)evolved. Some Might Say has a great throw back rock sound (to the 70's) while Morning Glory is an excellent piece of rock reimagined for the 90's (grating guitar work is awesome). Noel Gallagher may be an asshole but he is a good songwriter. Don't Look Back in Anger (I think it's their best song) has some deep intelligent lyrics whereas the lyrics in She's Electric are cheeky yet still smart. The different styles show just how talented he is. Wonderwall may be overplayed but it is a great track. I'll always dislike Champagne Supernova but hey I don't like Strawberry Fields either - I guess I'm not much for psychedelia. Still, I can acknowledge its great musicianship even if it is not my kind of sound.
Man, this is an album with mostly hits, but the songs are actually great, and not just some shallow commercial music, although, I think, trough the grandness of their songs, they became commercial. Maybe, the best album by a band that transcended the underground, breaking like a fucking wrecking ball in the mainstream ears, the absolute kings of the britpop era.
It took me (and the music press) a while to truly appreciate what an album this was. I've never owned it, but i've sung along to every song, danced (drunkedly) to many. For my generation, it's so important - even critical.
Oasis!
One of my favorite albums of all time. I've seen Oasis live twice, thank goodness before they broke up. I know it's suggested that they're derivative of the Beatles, but I think they are much, much more influential and talented than that. They have a sound their own, a masterful attitude of rock and roll, and the ability to craft songs that play in clubs and arenas. Their work is suggestive of the Beatles, but in a commemorative way. This album never lets up, either. It is one of the perfect albums of the 90s and all time; each song is fantastic. All killer and no filler.
was going to be all objective with this, but to be honest it's still a stone cold 5
Literally every single one of my favorite oasis songs are on this album. What a classic banger of an album. Even if wonderwall is overplayed it’s still good and I love champagne supernova, it’s been my alarm in the morning for years. Fav songs: literally no skips
Brilliant album.
You know how sometimes you listen to music you loved when you were younger and it just doesn’t sound as good? This is not one of those albums. If anything, I can better appreciate just has lush and layered this album is. It’s goddamned anthemic. Noel Gallagher’s songwriting is absolutely at its peak here. Oasis have never been the flashiest or boundary pushing band, but one thing they are is absolutely unique. No one sounds quite like them. There is not a single bad song on this album.
Seminal album for Oasis, almost a greatest-hits collection in itself. Great album, easy 5. I've said it on the last Oasis album and I'll say it again. I don't know how the 2 most miserable people on the planet can write such lovely songs.
An old favourite
Amazing album top to bottom
This is coming home from college and raiding my sister’s new CDs. Good vibes. Good music, too.
Fantastic rock album. Cohesive, unique, has a clear identity, lyrics are good too. One of the last albums you could somewhat call a rock opera.
What a great album, combines the positive aspects of britpop with some heavier guitars and stadium anthem like choruses
Perfection
Anyway, here's Wonderwall. Joking aside, there are so many hits on this album. Don't look back in anger, hello, morning glory, champagne supernova! Very strong album and great encapsulation of the brit pop era
The last great album by Oasis. Again, one for the snobs to pretend they don't like it but you can't fault the melodies. Just a great, great record. Best Tracks: Don't Look Back In Anger, Some Might Say, Champagne Supernova
Big stuff. Until this album I'd never found music that really grabbed me, but this sold me on guitar and rock n' roll
A lot more rockin and bluesy than I expected. All killer.
Classic.
Brilliant! From track 1 to track 12 Even the B-sides are good. Easily Oasis' best album. Cocaine is a hell of a drug!
Really good, not quite perfect.
I hated oasis when I was younger, but this album is fantastic upon relisten. Very happy this challenge got me to check it out!
10/10 ludomatics. Punto.
Great album, all hits
Love the group
5/5, would listen again.
Beginning of Hello, I thought the whole album was just going to sound like Wonderwall, but then it has the weird cut and then went into a different but still good sound. As Emily said, unexpectedly good album based on the "meme status" of Wonderwall.
Incredible
Epic
Mítico
One of the best albums ever released
On my birthday I get this album!! One of my all-time favorites! I have listened this album all my life, it's been like a companion. I am no believer, but maybe this is proof that destiny exists. Masterpiece, there's not much more to say.
Way better than expected. I think this album is a victim of its own success. It's such good music that songs like wonderwall, champagne supernova and don't look back in anger are essentially punchlines. The deeper cuts were more enjoyable than expected! I think this a really strong 4.5 and if I was being more critical about my 5s, I wouldn't give it one...but I'll let it squeak by this time.
Classic british tunes
How could you not love this?
Amazing!
i imagine this was a thrilling listen when it dropped. i surely enjoyed it.
I already know I love this album. My favourite Oasis album by far. It reminds me of the 90s and how I didn’t understand the visceral darkness of the rock and roll lyrics when I first heard them
I'm not sure I ever listened to this full album before. Super solid!
Well it's time to listen to Oasis and their 2nd album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? I'm very happy to give this a listen and enjoy one of the great albums of all time. The first song Hello is one of my favorites and I love how it starts very quiet and builds into a great song with a catchy hook. I've spent hours and hours living in the world of this album. I've thought of movies I could make with some of these songs as a soundtrack. It almost makes me re-think the order of Brit Rock greats. Pulp is still #1. But maybe this album pushes Oasis ahead of Blur for the morning in my head. I own this album in digital format and on vinyl. It's become such a part of our culture and life, that it seems like I should be tired of it by now. In the past I've grown weary with Oasis and their brotherly squabbling. And their output after this album was a bit spotty until their eventual break-up. They had some great singles come about from later albums, but I believe this is the high water mark for this band. This was lovely to visit on a random Thursday morning and relive all the good feelings it brings about. Where things felt very possible in the 90s and these big hooks and choruses floated through all the moments my friends and I shared.
Great one!
Yah it slaps, starting off strong.
Great album, always loved it
Klassikkokamaa, kenties jopa paras levy ikinä. Yksi niitä harvoja albumeja joissa kaikki biisit toimii. Kestänyt mainiosti aikaa vaikka julkaisusta yli 25v
A straight up, meditative fucking vibe
Pretty good
I like this album a lot. I had heard it before obvi, but it is just a bunch of solid songs one after the other and I don't think I ever have the desire to skip any.
Oasis didn’t have to go this hard. But they did. For us. I know Wonderwall in particular gets meme’d on but a good joke always has a bit of the truth, right? I would definitely listen to this full album again.
Straight 🔥. Only one song is just ok. Everything else slaps!!!
perfect 5
Awesome - classic after classic, it plays like a greatest hits.
ok this is a classic, not anything I need to say about it. 5/5.
It’s a classic, of course. Don’t look back in anger is a perfect song, the reincarnation of Hey Jude. Guitar solo in champagne super nova is an all time favourite. However, this record will always remind me of a French trip in grade 7 when the mean girls started being mean to me so it’s a circumstantial 4.
Come on. It is a classic. Even the cover art is perfect.
It's a sign of how ubiquitous this album was in Britain in the 1990s that even though I didn't buy it, I still know every track - everywhere I went, someone was playing it. I felt like I owned it by osmosis. I never asked anyone to turn it off either, because while I'm not an Oasis die-hard, there are some great songs here. And Liam sings them like they make sense, which is no mean feat.
BEST SONGS: - Wonderwall - Hey Now - Untitled
Classic record. Songs that remind me of being a kid and discovering my own taste in music.
This is going to sound really dumb, but I had no idea how good Oasis was. What a fantastic album. No wonder they're so popular.
Chock-full of anthems I already knew, and they're titans, but I never actually sat down and listened to the album until now. While "the hits" are the meat, the other songs aren't bad and the album flows well. That said, I still don't quite find the other songs compelling enough that I'd listen to the whole album often. Still, the guitars sound spectacular throughout, and that's what really makes the album for me. Lyrics don't seem to be Oasis's strong point, but when you sound this good, it doesn't matter. That said, I'm not sure if I'd play
Masterful composition and production but mostly bs lyrics with the occasional clever line and Liam’s arrogance shines through every moment. So anyway… here’s “Wonderwall”.
Pure 90s, I'm here for it.
Anyway, here’s Wonderwall
No. 195/1001 Hello 4/5 Roll With It 4/5 Wonderwall 5/5 Don't Look Back In Anger 5/5 Hey Now! 4/5 The Swamp Song Ex. 1 NR Some Might Say 4/5 Cast No Shadow 5/5 She's Electric 4/5 Morning Glory 4/5 The Swamp Song Ex. 2 NR Champagne Supernova 5/5 Average: 4,4 Great, great pop record by Oasis. Consistent from start to finish. Champagne Supernova is the absolute highlight.
Owned this when it came out, but got fed up with it as it was played all the time, especially Wonderwall. Revisiting it 30 years later and it is an enjoyable album. Although some of it has Beatles vibes in it there is still some good songwriting 4/5
Lots of very, very good songs. At times it just feels like they run together or sound too similar, but I forgot how much I liked their music.
Wonderwall into Don’t Look Back In Anger is always going to remind me of them.
I mean seriously - do we have to listen to this again? I didn't. I'd rather look towards the future. The four stars are for what the album meant to me almost 30 years ago, and not how I view it in 2023. I don't feel the need to play this ever again.
I said maaayybbbeeeeeeeee, you're gonna be the one who saaavvveeesssss meeeeee
Yeah this ones a low 3 from me, it’s a bit bland and samey and doesn’t grab me, i preferred their first as i found it more engaging and interesting, that being said i can see why people loved/love this
WONDERWAAAAALLLLL
Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall on one album? This album is featuring v heavily in my media as of late. Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova in fan fiction; Champagne Supernova in the Project Hail Mary trailer causing FEELINGS Jfc Looking forward to listening :) Also kind of wild this was 1995, I always imagined earlier. I always forget the so Sally song. (Don’t look back in Anger. So good) I want to bump this up just for the gift of one of my favorite songs but the album overall is less my vibe
man, counting this i've already listened to 6 of the past 7 (haha get it) albums this list has given me. cmon now. really not that great imo but my girlfriend likes it a lot and it has Champagne Supernova so i can't hate it. deserves to be one of the 1001? yeah even despite me not being british
siento que se repiten todo el tiempo los mismos acordes pero en versión acústica/electrica. ya lo había escuchado pero no completo (obvio wonderwall y dont look back in anger las más famosas jaja) pero la de shes electric me puso feliz
Some songs were pretty memorable but it fell into the pit of having so much content that I cant differentiate anything from another track and it just blended together in mediocrity for me
I probably haven't listened to this all the way through since the 1990s. I think my favorite song on it is still "Don't Look Back in Anger," and I remember wondering back then why it wasn't higher-charting than "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova" in the U. S. I'm also really liking "She's Electric" today.
I discovered I have 2 copies of this CD in my collection. I guess that might indicate I like it or I suffer from Alzheimers. I think I should get tested.
It just really doesn’t sound that groundbreaking
I'm not saying they are BAD, but I just don't understand how they are so huge. They don't seem to be special to me, and I can't figure out why other people find them special. The other album was better. This one felt a little whiny. Overall not bad, just not special.
Overall, pretty boring.
Damn, here we go, this is the first ever for me actually sitting down to listen to these guys, I never really liked them that much, so this will be interesting. Listened to the whole thing and honestly they just don't do much for me, sure couple of memorable songs, but I have heard better things. And after listening to this I still don't get such a massive success this had, why? Possibly 2 stars or so
Total überbewertet. Gäbe es die nervigen fans nicht wär's halbwegs okay. Die Drums sind unterirdisch, stattdessen gibts Dauergeklingel vom Schellenkranz
NOT OASIS NAHHHH. OKAY FINE I WILL LISTEN TO OASIS. I don't know but Oasis doesn't feel like a real band to me, not in an industry plant way, more like a movie montage soundtrack kind of way where are all their songs sound like that to me. Before this album I just knew Wonderwall and that one infamous album of theirs. Well, the music video for Hello is kind of fine, I guess. Man, after this I'll just listen to Alice in Chains again to remember what music sounds like. Okay, I might have enjoyed it a little, in a way that is really easy to enjoy Oasis, because they are objectively good. AHAHAHAH HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE ALBUM WHERE WONDERWALL COMES FROM. +1 star for Wonderwall. Okay I might say (pun intended) Some Might Say (and Morning Glory) are also decent tracks. Just finished listening and that final track did NOT do the album any favor, I am quite impressed at how Oasis gets away with making long ass songs about NOTHING.
Some of the songs on this album are decent ("Wonderwall", "Don't Look Back In Anger", "Champagne Supernova") but nearly everything on this record is performed in hamfisted, overblown way that it becomes exhausting across the 50 minute running time. The graceless, dynamics-free mix also pushes the guitars *way* up to the front on many of the tracks, to the detriment of the other instruments.
Tired old pub rock.
Oh boy... Oasis. Within the world of the common people, this is the biggest Britpop band of all time. They had songs like Wonderwall and that other one with Sally. And this album right here is pretty much seen as their magnum opus, their best release with the best songs they ever made including Wonderwall and that other one. I personally prefer their previous, slightly noiser debut but this album is undeniably bigger in terms of sales and universal recognition. But that does not mean that I like it. In my mind, Oasis is one of the most overrated bands of all time. Their songwriting rarely exceeds "good" and the two brothers as persons are just annoying and unbearable. The only Britpop artist (and artist in general) that I personally hate more is Damon Albarn from Blur. They are all so arrogant and tasteless, like a Punk version of Morrisey. And that feeling I have towards them as persons does make its way into their music which is why I pretty much hate the most popular Britpop artists and a lot of Britpop overall. The album says Hello with 'Hello', a psychedelic and Glam Rock inspired Britpop song that does start off by sounding pretty similar to their debut. And I do think that in terms of songwriting, this isn't bad. I like the structure of the song and how it moves between the chorus and the verses although I think that the guitar goes a little faster than actually needed. My main problem is that it sounds like all the big songs on the album. The choruses fill oddly similar to each other as if they just swapped out the words but sang the exact same thing over and over and over. The song is fine, it's an okay song that does get a little over the top towards the end but ultimately doesn't annoy too much. The even noisier 'Roll With It' is sonically a glimpse of hope but the vocals destroy that bit of hope. They feel unfocused and out of touch with the actual song and the chorus is even worse. This is a basic and tastless chorus that has been done hundreds, even thousands of times before. It's not interesting at any point after the first few notes. At one point, the lead guitar sounds like it's gone completely away from the actual. The entire song sounds unfinished and just bad. And there it is, 'Wonderwall', a song that is so overplayed that even the band itself hates it. I hate it too. To be fair, the chorus by itself is pretty good but the verses are just straight ass. I am not going to even pretend as if there was anything of artistic or emotional value to take out of that squeeky garbage of a song. I hate this track with every bone in my body and if it wasn't for the somewhat memorable chorus, this would be a straight 0. I am happy that 'Don't Look Back in Anger' follows right after to sweep up the dirt that 'Wonderwall' left behind. This is without a doubt the best track on the entire album. It has a good melody, a catchy and pretty great chorus as well as solid songwriting. It is everything its predecessor tried to be. The vocals still are a little squeeky and annoying but it's not enough to make me dislike this song. I am also pretty happy that its a David Bowie reference. Overall, the song's good with a tendency towards average but not quite especially because it does feel pretty streched after a while. The Jangle Pop and Shoegaze mix on 'Hey Now!' do feel pretty refreshing at first after the slight run of cleaner songs but sadly, the song can't really show itself as being up to what I expected of it. It's pretty boring and basic with nothing that can really set it apart from being anything. There isn't a catchy chorus, there isn't interesting songwriting. It's just really bland, so bland even that after a while the song is less interesting than most songs on the charts today. It's not totally bad but it does have a tendency towards that. The weird little interlude of 'Swamp Song Excerpt #1' which is just a Hard Rock Jam of 40 seconds isn't really what you'd expect on the album but it is like a little alarm clock that brings your focus up again after the last sleepy song. It's not bad, it's not good, it's right in the middle especially because it's so short. The albums second half is started by 'Some Might Say' which keeps the Rock influences from the previous interlude and mixes it with some Indie and Noise Pop while still being obvious Britpop. The chorus of the song is again pretty basic and sounds like it was done 100 times already without being actually catchy. The guitars again sound out of synch with the actual song but not in a good way and it overall just feels like the start of the album all over again. It is also way too long and feels streched after the half already which does make it a pretty bad song overall. The dreamy and sensual 'Cast No Shadow' comes in with some nice strings and a pretty okay songwriting. It's definitely not bad but I wouldn't say that it's good either. Mainly, it's just a very boring track that tries to be way more introspective and poetic than it actually is. Again, it isn't a bad song rather it's pretty average although it gets very tiring after a while and feels overly streched which makes the overall enjoyment feel even less good. The slight Country influences on 'She's Electric' are a nice touch at first but I am pretty dissapointed with it after a short while. It sounds like a song that you could hear from any average Rock band from Texas with a British frontman. It's not special at all but it at least isn't streched out to over five minutes and ends at a reasonable length for the song. The Hard Rock, Noise Rock and Shoegaze mix on the title track 'Morning Glory' is instrumentally my favourite moment on the album. I absolutely love how the song starts BUT the vocals ruin it. They sound like happy sunday morning on top of this noisy background which just doesn't work at all. And don't get me started on the chorus. It is just so annoying and straight up terrible that it ruins the pretty great instrumental so much that I think the result is actually bad. I am simply disappointed with the song. It's not even disgust or hate but simply disappointment. 'Swamp Song Excerpt #2' is pretty different than the first version. It's mainly a sound collage of Sound Effects, Field recordings and bits of Experimental instrumentation added in the back. It's interesting but nothing special especially with the length. It does transition into the final song, 'Champagne Supernova' though, which is also the longest song on the album. It's a pretty lengthy and psychedelic mix of their distinct Britpop style. I am happy that even at his length it doesn't feel overly streched or unfocused. The song just continues through different phases and it is pretty pleasent to listen to even if I am not the biggest fan of the song itself. It's good and a nice finale to this album but nothing too crazy. favourites: Don't Look Back in Anger, (Champagne Supernova) least favourites: Wonderwall, Roll With It, Some Might Say Rating: decent to strong 4 https://rateyourmusic.com/~Emil_ph for more ratings, reviews and takes
the best music came on when spotify turned on auto recommendations after the album ended, and The Strokes started playing
Songs go on too long and end up...making you forget what you were going to say I guess. Definitely maybe a little better than Definitely Maybe.
Ah, one of the albums I was dreading... I probably expressed this before in my other Oasis album review, which maybe should have given a 1, but I'm not crazy about Oasis being constantly compared to the Beatles. I feel like Oasis tries way too hard to sound like and reference The Beatles, which makes the comparison feel very manufactured, and despite this, I still don't care about their music. There are countless artists inspired by the Beatles that made better music. If you like this, good for you. It should be said that I really just don't like Britpop that much, so even one of the biggest Britpop albums isn't going to do much for me. I think that this is a tad bit better that Definitely Maybe, but still not great. There are little parts here and there that are enjoyable, but there's not enough of them. If they have a good part, they ignore it for something boring. These songs are also a bit too long. I don't know, man. I really don't understand what made Oasis such hot shit at the time. It probably sounds like I hate this album, but I just see nothing special in it. My favourite song was the second Untitled track.
With vocals both pitchy and bitchy over the most basic of instrumentals, I don't get why anyone listens to this. I know I'm a bitch sometimes, but my self awareness of that leads me to not make decisions like recording this crap.
Never liked Oasis…horrible whining wingeing voice….not my thing.
I really hate this glorified bar band that totally sucked up all the air around everything actually interesting going in in British music at the time. And unlike Definitely Maybe, this one can't even offer me a guilty pleasure favorite like "Live Forever"!

Once of generation defining albums.
I didn't like them at the time. I was wrong.
It’s like they were allergic to making a bad song for this album.

# Album Name: (What's The Story) Morning Glory # Artist: Oasis # Rating: 5/5 # Comments: Banger mode activated. Beast of an album. One of the best of a generation and one of the best of all time. # Top Tunes: Whole album # Would I listen to it again? Yes
Initialt en fyra men sen kommer sista halvan. Det är för många stora låtar som har en plats i mitt hjärta och i pophistorien.
Objektivt en nästan fläckfri rockskiva. Älskar i princip varenda låt, inklusive ”Wonderwall”. Säger en del att en otrolig låt som ”acquiesce” inte platsade, utan blev b-sida. Säga vad man vill men Noel gallagher är en hejare på att skriva anthems för killar.
Fuckin classic luv me oasis luv me gallaghers bangers front to back should be essential listening for every brit
I will start off by writing that "Don't Look Back in Anger" is one of my most played Spotify songs of all time, and like many others "Wonderwall" was one of the first songs I learnt on guitar. But don't mistake this for being merely a two song album, and this is full of great songs and melodies (and for me, memories), such as "Some Might Say" and "Hey Now". True, the swamp songs and "Cast No Shadow" aren't the strongest. But in my view this albums feel is immaculate, and well worth inclusion among the best.
I was little when this album came out and, like everyone else in the 90s and early 00s, knew about Wonderwall. But, now, decades later…I am in awe of this album. This has moved to the top of my all-time favorite albums. I had no idea the lyrics were this DEEP and are literally the soothing balm my soul needed to hear in this moment in my late 30s. Pure medicine. This album is pure medicine. I could cry with how moved and grateful I am to be doing this project and re(discovering) music that will be a forever companion when I need a reminder that I’m not alone in how I’m feeling.
There is an argument about whether Oasis borrowed too heavily from the Beatles, and that argument has been running for thirty years and can continue without this project’s participation. What matters is what the songs do, and what the songs do is hit with an immediacy and a size that very few records in any era match. “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Champagne Supernova” — three songs that were inescapable in 1995 and have never really left, which is the definition of music that found something universal rather than something fashionable. “Champagne Supernova” is the personal anchor here — a song that Suede Basement has been playing for years, which means it’s been heard from the inside out, learned at the level where you stop listening and start inhabiting. That kind of relationship with a song is the highest form of the record player test. You don’t put it on to hear it. You put it on because it’s already part of how you understand what music can do. Liam Gallagher’s voice is one of the great rock vocal instruments of the era — sneering, nasal, utterly without self-doubt, the perfect delivery mechanism for Noel’s melodies. The wall of guitars is enormous and unapologetic. The Beatles debt is worn openly and paid back with interest by songs strong enough to stand on their own terms. A five that the singles earn and the personal history confirms.
me temo que top
(What's The Story) Morning Glory - Oasis (1995) (What's The Story) Morning Glory? is an absolute masterpiece. It is beautiful, incredibly moody, and stands as another genuine masterclass discovery in this challenge. The record feels like a complete blessing to listen to. While the entire album is stacked with standout tracks, "Some Might Say" and "Champagne Supernova" deserve special mention. What makes this duo so unique is how they completely transcend the typical Britpop label, leaning instead into a pure, timeless indie rock sound that carries an indescribable sweetness. Ultimately, "Champagne Supernova" takes the cake as the absolute perfect, deeply reflective closer. That same beautiful, cohesive craftsmanship extends entirely across the tracklist, making the LP a seamless front-to-back experience that demands immediate revisits. Based on the track selections, the definitive highlights that anchor this masterpiece include "Roll With It," "Wonderwall," "Don't Look Back In Anger," "Hey Now," "Some Might Say," "Cast No Shadow," "She's Electric," "Morning Glory," and "Champagne Supernova." 5/5
There was bound to be a significant amount of hate for this. Unjust though I find it, I can't help but understand why it's not for everyone. Considered their most celebrated due to its cultural influence, this is the album that skyrocketed them to global superstardom. I love this album and although it's not my favourite, it's still worthy of a 5.
One of the top 10 albums ever, any time I listen it takes me back to a simpler time.
A classic
It's one of the biggest, most important albums of the 90s. It still holds up today, even if it remains lodhed intrinsically in the 90s. I didn't get on-board with them till this album. Ahh, remember when rock music was an actual cultural force? There are wall to wall bangers here, and while it went downhill, they will always have this.
Like the previous Oasis album I'm completely bias because I'm a product of the 90s, I was at their reunion gig and I've seen Liam and Noel separately in their solo careers. One of the greatest follow up albums of all time with some of the most iconic songs of the 90s are here. 5/5.
Glorious.
My son was named Liam in large part because of this record. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
um clássico né, nunca tinha ouvido inteiro, muito bom
Oasiksen kakkoslevy on melkein täydellistä rokkia hienoilla melodioilla varustettuna.
Have no option but to give this 5 stars. It was already corny when I bought this on a used CD in 2006, but every song is a banger and it’s got to be tied with Weezer’s Blue album (shame on the author for not including it in his list…) as the best pop rock album of the 90s and possibly since.
Lyrics: mostly dumb. Band:often insufferable. But damn if this isn’t arguably the catchiest album ever written.
Superb.
Biblical.
good
4.5. always hated hearing wonderwall on the radio as a kid but somehow it doesn't sound so bad here.
Ts a masterpiece
Morning glory, SHE'S ELECTRIC, champagne supernova que delicia
It is actually better each time I listen to it. Love me some brit pop.
Shit makes me want to punch my brother backstage in Paris. No notes.
This is really a pity five. Because, there’s so many problems with this album. I have no fucking clue why the Swamp Songs are on this record. The mix is really wack at the best of times. Vocals are oftentimes on or over the edge. But like. This whole sound is just humongous. This is Britpop at its most coarse and broad. I guess the brains I had went to my head. Shout out Tom Osborne, he did like that lyric quite a bit. Closer to a 4, but man.
Another I never really listened to and it does slap. I understand the hype.
I think I had a very strong dislike towards anything Oasis-related due to the pure overplaying of 'Wonderwall' and 'Don't Look Back In Anger'. I suppose that can't really be helped when you live and have lived your whole life in the UK. These really aren't bad songs, otherwise they wouldn't be as big as they are... I have just heard them too much, so due to this, I will not be docking marks for being 'sick of hearing something', especially if it is a fundamentally well-written and performed track. I don't think I have ever been on a night out, or even to the pub, without hearing Oasis blasting at one time or another, and it just becomes tedious after a while. From that point, I very vocally swore off Oasis and almost had a hatred towards them. However... it was quite nice to be able to listen to this with an open mind and without it being shoved down my throat by die-hard Oasis fans that always talk about how they managed to get tickets to the reunion tour, which in all honesty I couldn't think of anything worse after working in a music arena and seeing the aftermath of a Liam Gallagher show... I hate to say it, but I quite liked this album. I think when people speak about the music that Oasis has released, it is always this album and 'Definitely Maybe' that crop up in conversation. It's easy to understand why, as looking through both those albums before even listening to this one, the number of songs I recognised the title of was quite high, and I am not an active Oasis listener at all. I think one thing that would have given me more would have possibly been a bit more experimentation or variation with instrumentation, but it clearly works well what they have with their vocal style. On that point, I don't care what everyone says; I really believe that Noel's vocals are the clear highlight of this album, along with the songwriting. I do enjoy Liam's raspier vocals, and they bring such a unique, almost nostalgic sound, and both vocals work really well together, but I love how Noel sounds in this album. I think that they could have done a lot more with two vocalists, rather than having a main vocalist and then the other doing ad-libs. I think it would have worked a lot nicer in some (not all) tracks if maybe they utilised having two vocalists a bit more. It also seems like this is more Liam-centred than anything, but again, I love the vocals from both of them. Also, to add to my earlier point of instrumentation, I do like the use of different percussive instruments such as tambourine... they add more layers to the rhythm sections. I'm also a big fan in general of string sections, and I think that they are used really well in this context. They don't take away from their style, they aren't overused, and they add just a bit more texture to the tracks as a whole. I know I had points of improvement, but they were sort of nit-picky points that would have enhanced my listening experience... they don't really take anything away from the album, and that is why, as a whole, I think this album is deserving of a full 5-stars. The track list is nothing short of brilliant, with good pacing, a nice mix, and nothing tedious. This is the complete opposite of what I thought I would feel towards anything created by Oasis. Favourite lyric: 'Someday you will find me caught beneath a landslide, in a champagne supernova in the sky.' ('Champagne Supernova'). Favourites: Some Might Say Roll With It Champagne Supernova Morning Glory
Well, this was a long time coming, wasn't it? I finally got an Oasis album! After all the second-rate Britpop that I've talked about for this album project, I finally get to talk about the guys who practically defined the genre! I mean, I did already talk about Blur, who arguably also have claim to that title, but when I think Britpop, I think Oasis. I think even the biggest complainers about the amount of Britpop on this album list have to admit that Oasis need to be on here at least once, right? And if you're going to have an Oasis album on a list like this, you can't do much better than Morning Glory. This album is absolutely iconic, and for good reason. This album is quite spectacular. The sound is loud but endearing. Liam Gallagher's voice is perfect for the band and the songs. Noel Gallagher's songwriting is really something special from both a lyrical and musical perspective. Those Gallagher brothers might hate each other, but they sure know how to make some timeless songs together. Anyway, here's "Wonderwall." Yeah, if you wanna talk iconic songs, "Wonderwall" is definitely the first to come to mind. All memes aside, the song is nice. The chord progression is great and the writing is pleasant. It's a good song, okay? If you want a bit of a change of pace with Noel on vocals and a more electric sound, "Don't Look Back in Anger" should be right up your alley. Another excellent song. The arrangements on this one are just the best and Noel sounds great on vocals as well. "Some Might Say" is a fun rocker with a nice uplifting energy behind it. It's also fun to play in Guitar Hero. I just want to acknowledge that. And of course, I could never forget the album's closer, "Champagne Supernova." There's something special about albums that end on their longest and, arguably, best song. Not every album can nail the long closer, but "Champagne Supernova" absolutely nails it. The psychedelic edge on this one is just delightful. It's glorious. (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is an all-time classic of an album. It defined both its genre and its era in one fell swoop with the power of engaging songwriting, an infectious energy, and 10 classic songs without an ounce of fat in its runtime. Some might say that this album is uninteresting, but I say that this album has earned its legacy. It's excellent. Low 5/5.
This is one of the two first cds i ever owned. These tracks are so deeply etched into my psyche that it is impossible to feign any sort of objectivity. In another timeline I don't know how I would feel about this album given my complete ambivalence to the rest of Oasis's music, but in this one it is 5 stars every time.
Legendary - preferred Blur fan until I heard this
The last old time album. A cd set up like an old lp. No fillers just straight up top tunes in the right order!
This is one of the greatest albums of all time! I love this album.
Great album. Britpop reigns supreme.
Can’t be anything other than a 5, but if it was Definitely Maybe it’d be a 6.
Possibly the best ever second album
nw czemu to ma ws sobue jaķies 50 plyt przesluchalam dwie i tbh juz mi sie reoche nie chcialo ale bardzk fajne
Classic Oasis, we had this on vinyl, borrowed
I really liked this one! My best guess at genre is alt indie pop, and the whole album is very 90s which I love.
I don't really have anything interesting to say, this album rules
Outstanding follow up to an amazing debut album. All bangers and attitude. Fantastic! The only people who don’t like Oasis are the ones who’ve never listened to them. You know who you are and you know I’m right 😉
I mean this album is SOOOOOOO good. So many classics and everything comes together. This is just such a well done album. It is "dirty" in its tone, but still polished. I really love it! Actual rating...4.5 Liked Songs: The only songs I don't LOVE are "Hey Now!" and the two "Swamp Songs"
One of the best projects i've ever heard
Perfect album, no notes
An easy 5
Madferit
5 star album 5 star eyebrows
It's cheesy, Wonderwall and all, but what a great album!!
This one made me smile. Hadn’t listened in years but still remembered it all.
The gallagher boys! Another top album!
I wouldn't say I'm an Oasis fan, but there's lots of great songs on this, it's an enjoyable listen.
This isn’t the most Britpop Britpop album, but it is probably the one that best typifies what Cool Brittania was all about. I was there, I loved it, and this, while not an outstanding album, really is a great document of the time.
Very nostalgic
Cause maybeeeeee, albumazo, varios hits
Familiar territory and I'm happy for it.
One of THE iconic British albums in my book
Never listened to a full Oasis album before (I'm more of a Blur girl (Blurl?)) but this was good, it's nice when the non-singles are good songs as well
I dithered between a 4 and a 5 on this, just because the three most well-known songs (Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova) are so played out, to the extent that Wonderwall is basically a punch line now. But it’s still sufficiently brilliant for 5. We see a natural evolution from Definitely Maybe, with still some loud songs like Roll with It and Some Might Say but also some signs of broadening. A favourite of mine is She’s Electric, a jangly song that probably represents the best straightforwardly Britpop song Oasis made. Although that ‘big 3’ is played out now, I’d have to concede the power they must have had in 1995. Even with the fading of time, a classic.
Probably the best album out of their two classic releases in my view. There's a lot of variety on this and its full of terrific songwriting throughout. You can't really ask for much more. Favourites are 'Don't Look Back in Anger', 'Cast No Shadow' and 'She's Electric'.
The second of the two brilliant, classic Oasis albums, this is sonically very different from ‘Definitely Maybe’. It has a cleaner, more polished sound, with strings and keys featuring much more prominently. Noel Gallagher went more for ‘anthems’, with ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’, the title track, and ‘Champagne Supernova’ the best examples of this. Additionally, ‘Some Might Say’, ‘Cast No Shadow’ and ‘She’s Electric’ are personal favourites of mine, but really there are no dud tracks here (‘Hey Now!’ is probably the closest thing to one). I prefer the debut, but this is surely still worth 5 stars.
This is great actually. Very nice to listen to.
Great from beginning to end.
FABBBBBBB, a classic ofc
looked at the tracklist for this before listening and actually burst out laughing because it is just bangers all the way down. like what do you MEAN Wonderwall ends and the next song is Don't Look Back In Anger??? insanity. listen i'm British so all these songs are in my DNA and there's nothing i can do about that, i struggled not to fully burst into song listening to this at the bus stop this morning.
The sound of my teenage years. Came out when I was 13 and have heard these songs a million times. I love some of these songs, mainly "Don't Look Back in Anger" & "Champagne Supernova." I remember singing "slowly walking down the hall" in the halls of Peachtree & Dunwoody so that's cool. Also, I've been to this album cover location. I was in London visiting and wanted to pop into a cool record store. Hung up they had the album with a red arrow "YOU ARE HERE" and circle showing the street. It's not Abbey Road but I'll take it... haha which I guess is the PERFECT way to summarize Oasis!
this is 5/5 for ME x
As annoying as I find the Gallaghers, they do make great music.
hehehe
Bloody fuckin’ good, right?
One of the few occasions I've decided to just put the album of the day on repeat and let it go all day long. I'm not eloquent enough to say anything crazy about this one, but I can say I had a damn good time listening to it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On this rare occasion, taylore has also decided to review this album so here is her review: champagne supernova is decidedly the greatest song of all time. this album could've just been champagne supernova for an hour and i would've been tickled to death. 4/5 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t have much experience with Oasis beyond their hits, but I loved it. Wonderwall has the reputation of being whipped out at a party by every amateur guitarist, but every song here evoked a backyard party with friends, culminating in the coolest night of your life. Even more so when I went back and listened to the acoustic versions.
This is the Oasis album I listened to the most as a kid and it is still just so fantastic. "She's Electric" is so simple yet is effective song-writing. I can't listen to "Don't Look Back in Anger" without a huge smile on my face (probably because my family always sang it with a goofy British accent). I have no clue what "I hitched a ride with my soul by the side of the road just as the sky turned black" means, but I have always loved that line.
I’m happy we got WTSMG today because 1). I love it; 2). We had Definitely Maybe recently enough that I can jump straight back into that train of thought. I've been stewing since I wrote my Definitely Maybe review and have since come to the conclusion that, while I still don't think WTSMG reaches its heights (I like “Slide Away” and “Live Forever” way more than the best songs on this album), it is overall a better album experience, likely because of the lack of “Shakermaker” which I continue to really dislike because it is kinda crap. Definitely Maybe took our boys from playing club shows to absolutely massive overnight. They tried to break America but at their first show in LA, they accidentally did a fuckton of crystal meth, innocently mistaking it for the fuckton of cocaine that they had intended to do. This caused the show to end disastrously when Liam threw a tambourine at Noel ("out of time," -- Noel in Supersonic). So then Noel quit the group and fucked off to San Francisco where he stayed with a fan who convinced him to go back to rejoin the band. He wrote "Talk Tonight" about it. She also apparently answered the phone by saying, "What's the story, morning glory?" There's also a really really unhinged YouTube video I watched that says this whole album is a concept album about these events, which is doubtful because I don't think any of these songs are about anything, except "Morning Glory" which is very much about cocaine. Tony McCarroll has been fired as drummer and replaced by Alan White but still plays on “Some Might Say.” "Whatever" has been released as a non-album single to bridge the gap between the two albums. It is a wonderful perfect song and later results in a plagiarism lawsuit from Neil Innes. If Oasis never put out another album after their first two, they'd probably be considered all-timers, but they kept on chugging until 2009 to diminishing returns (none of these later albums are bad and all of them have at least one great song). Be Here Now is kind of an edge case because when it came out, the reviews were glowing af but then its reputation took a hit when people realized that it's basically the musical equivalent of Donkey Kong 64 (I also love Donkey Kong 64). But Oasis is trendy now. They just had a massive tour and are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So, you heard it here first, in 2027 when it gets a 30th anniversary re-release, we will get a slew of "Is Be Here Now a misunderstood masterpiece?" articles. Anyway, the goal here is to make stadium rock bangers, hence the big singalong type choruses. There are exactly 3 perfect songs on this album. Track by track: “Hello” is a great opener for an album and a live show. Just kinda jumps right into the thing and is catchy as hell. That little *wop wop* at the start is so fucking tasty. Noel doing the "It's good to be back" on the outro: also tasty as fuck. I'm also a sucker for callbacks and foreshadowing via snippets, so the tiny little bit of "Wonderwall" at the start does a great deal to make this feel like a more unified statement than its predecessor. "Roll With It" is a pretty good album song but I don't understand why it was a single. If you want to know how hellbent the British press were on making "Britpop" a thing, compare this song to Blur's "Country House," which tabloids would have us believe were competing for the same audience in the "Battle of Britpop." For what it's worth, I prefer "Country House." I have pretty conflicting opinions on "Wonderwall" but it's not for the obvious reasons. Like, it irks me that it's considered the definitive Oasis song because it isn't really representative of their sound, but I still think it is a very good song and will go out of my way to listen to it. I don't think it became the first 90s song to hit a billion streams just because of memes, essentially. It's just not in their top 10 or 20. The first time I heard it was in a mashup with "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" since they share a chord progression and because of that I've determined that everything good about "Wonderwall" can be put on Liam's vocal, as it doesn't really fit the song. The dude is actually giving a pretty intense rock vocal performance, which gives it just enough edge to take it out of sappy territory. Liam initially refused to sing the song because he wasn't into the vibe and Noel still says the song feels unfinished to him. I think they're both a bit too harsh on it, though on the recent live single, Liam says something to the effect of "where would we be without 'Wonderwall'? Probably selling fucking carpets or something," so I think they're fine with the song as long as the checks keep clearing. The part of this song that I HATE is the outro with the piano and the synth/cello that tries to sound "epic" but really just feels jarring and takes the wind out of the song's sails. It's still probably my favorite overplayed 90s song named after an obscure George Harrison project, though and I do like the bird sounds that lead into "Don't Look Back in Anger," a goddamn beautiful gorgeous masterpiece of a song that represents everything that makes me love this band as much as I do. It's also Noel's first lead vocal on an album track. I think I first heard it in Rock Band and I enjoyed it then, even if I was a bit thrown off by the blatant lifting of the intro from John Lennon's "Imagine" (plagiarism count: 1). What really elevated this song for me was the 2017 Manchester terrorist attacks. I remember seeing a clip of a crowd singing this song at a vigil and that just really has stuck with me for a long time that in a moment of such pain and confusion, those people took this song and used it as an instrument for healing. That's honestly, unironically, really truly powerful stuff to me. I would put DLBIA high into the pantheon of the greatest songs I've ever heard and ~that drum break~ is maybe my single favorite moment in any song ever written, making it the first of our 3 perfect songs. "Hey Now!" serves a purpose but it is also this album's equivalent of "Up in the Sky" in that I don't really feel strongly about it one way or the other. Like, I enjoy it but it is kind of just there and I don't recall ever saying, "Gee whiz, I'd like to hear 'Hey Now!' right about now." Not a skip or anything, but the weakest of the songs that count. "Untitled" or ___________ or "The Swamp Song -- Excerpt 1" or whatever we're calling it today is a curious little interlude that I don't fully understand. The full song shows up on The Masterplan and I don't really get the point of it there either. It's 44 seconds long so I'm not gonna get mad about. Moving on. "Some Might Say" is perfect song #2. It's another catchy song with meaningless scream along lyrics but its Top 5 Oasis probably. Also their first Number 1 single, and at the celebration party, Liam got in Damon Albarn's face and the rest is history. In that way, "Some Might Say" was the first domino falling to create Gorillaz. Noel also accomplishes the feat of stealing the same T. Rex riff that he already stole on "Cigarettes & Alcohol" (plagiarism count: 2). Noel later said that he wished this was the song that Oasis was best known for. "Cast No Shadow" was written for/about Richard Ashcroft from The Verve, after that band broke up for the first time. You see, in the UK, The Verve were a popular and well established band that had already broken up one time before "Bittersweet Symphony" even existed. These are some of the "flowerier" lyrics Noel ever wrote and there's some striking imagery. Still a weird thing to write a song about your friend that says "as they took his soul they stole his pride." "She's Electric" is WTSMG's equivalent to "Digsy's Dinner" in that it's a catchy happy song with little substance but that's okay, we love it anyway. This is "look around for things that rhyme and throw it in 101." "sister, missed her, blister" and "cousin, dozen, oven." Chef kiss. Also steals the outro from "With A Little Help From My Friends." (plagiarism count: 3). The closing run of songs clinches the 5 star-ness of the album for me. "Morning Glory" is pretty badass. I remember hearing it for the first time in a promo ad for a 15th Anniversary issue of this album and kind of having my mind blown that it was by the "Wonderwall" band. "All your dreams are made when you're chained to the mirror and the razorblade" is about as non-abstract a lyric as you can get. The man loves his cocaine, almost as much as he loves stealing the riff from REM's "The One I Love" (plagiarism count: 4). Another thing I'm a sucker for is seamless transitions between songs that don't necessarily go together when you aren't listening to the album. It is for this reason that "Swamp Song 2" is NOT skippable and is, in fact a vital piece of my listening experience to this album. I adore the sound of the waves fading in, fading out (not to be confused with "Fade In-Out" from the next Oasis album, Be Here Now), and then fading back in again to lead into "Champagne Supernova," the third and final absolutely perfect piece of music on this album and one of the best closing tracks of all time with its absolutely nonsensical lyrics that mean nothing and everything at the same time. There's a Noel quote from 2009: "This writer, he was going on about the lyrics to 'Champagne Supernova', and he actually said to me, "You know, the one thing that's stopping it being a classic is the ridiculous lyrics." And I went, "What do you mean by that?" And he said, "Well, Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball — what's that mean?" And I went, "I don't know. But are you telling me, when you've got 60,000 people singing it, they don't know what it means? It means something different to every one of them."" And for the longest time, I thought that was such a copout but like goddamn dude, being one of those 60,000 people is life changing and now I straight up cry when I hear this song. The way it moves and the texture it creates is just unlike anything else out there. Essential B-sides and bonus tracks roundup: "Talk Tonight" "Acquiesce" (maybe the MOST Oasis song, if that makes sense) "Headshrinker" "Rockin' Chair" "Step Out" (which was actually supposed to be an album track but then Stevie Wonder did not take well to, you guessed it, plagiarism) "Round Are Way" "The Masterplan" I'm gonna attempt a track ranking on this album because I did it on Definitely Maybe, but there's 2 songs that I can't really rank because they're barely songs and then there’s a 3-way tie for first, so this is gonna be really unsatisfying. From best to worst: "Don't Look Back In Anger" / "Some Might Say" / "Champagne Supernova" "Morning Glory" "Hello" "Roll With It" "Cast No Shadow" "Wonderwall" "She's Electric" "Hey Now!"
кроме того, очень понравилась hello, добавила также cast no shadow, champagne supernova красивая,hey now. roll with it по началу казалась дурацкой, какая то песня для радио в машине, но заедает же…добавила в итоге. morning glory очень любила до полноценного прослушивания альбома, но больше нравится unplugged версия. короче до конца сама не понимаю, нравится ли мне оазис, но альбом хороший, неожиданная оценка для меня самой 5/5
i want this album to be played in my bones
Probably a 4 but I relistened a lot
One of my favorite albums
What's the Story) Morning Glory? is a landmark Britpop album packed with anthemic songwriting, memorable hooks, and enduring classics. From the swagger of “Some Might Say” to the timeless appeal of “Wonderwall” and “Don't Look Back in Anger,” Oasis combined confidence, melody, and emotional weight to create one of the most influential British rock albums of the 1990s.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! God oasis were incredible at their peak. And this is a proper nostalgia rule britannia era album for me. Iconic. I also enjoyed the deluxe version which has more tunes, guitary stuff and more of Noel's voice. They'd better do Glasto at some point soon honestly
Forgot how much I liked all the other tracks from this album
In my opinion, Oasis were, so very briefly, the closest we ever got to hearing what the Beatles would have sounded like in the Nineties. More working class than their predecessors and more angry, but still showing signs of the excellent songwriting, quality vocals and instrumental work, and even the strife between the members that eventually led to their demise as a cohesive unit. This might be their best album, although I’m biased as it was the first I heard. 5 stars
Good listen. There are a couple of later songs that were on the kqal overnight cart I remember and it's kind of nostalgic.
Bien.
Muy buen álbum
I don’t remember ever listening to this whole album before, but it is great. Full of bangers. 5/5
I liked this album in the 90s,but I've come to appreciate it so much more recently. Champagne Supernova and Wonderwall are pretty good, but Don't Look Back in Anger and Some Might Say are fantastic
This is a good album. It feels sort of retro which is wild for a 90s album, but you can definitely hear the influence that this album plays in contemporary indie music.
A really great album. Crammed with hits. All killer, absolutely no filler. Sadly, from this point on, things could only go downhill. I wish I'd seen them in the 90s. I'd have liked a ticket for 2025 but no way was I paying those prices.
One of the seminal albums of the 90s. The difference between this and Stone Roses from last week is probably entirely a function of when I grew up and the way this sound shaped the background of my life. If you ask Amazon to play this album, it plays some remastered and mashed up version that includes all of these B-Sides and Extra Tracks. I'm excited to listen to those, but I'm only rating this album in its original form, and it is a 5 with a bullet. 'Don't Look Back In Anger' is in my personal top 20 songs of all time. Wonderwall, Champagne Supernova, they're still everywhere. And what elevates this album for me is that all of the rest of the songs have the hooks, the guitar play, the *rock* that fits perfectly together. I wasn't cool enough to actually own this album in the 90s. Wish I had been. Came to the party late, but at least I showed.
Wonderwall into Don't look back in anger might be best back to back songs ever
Maybe a 4 star album, but nostalgia makes it a 5/5. Champagne Supernova alone is just so fucking special to me
Dari awal sampai akhir sangat dapat dinikmati. Full of energy, ada melankolis, romantisme maskulin, dan secara bersamaan a handful of light. Lirik-liriknya, tak dapat disangkal, fun all the way.
No explanation needed. 10 out of 5 stars.
Ultraclassic, super cooles Album, das viel Spass macht
WALL. OF. SOUND. To my shame I've never listened to this in one sitting. Absolute all timer.
Se me voló la parka
This album is peak and if you disagree I will fight you. With my words. I'm not even a diehard Oasis fan but I had this album as a teen and listened to it a lot. It bangs from start to finish. Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, She's Electric, Champagne Supernova, they're all here. Bless the gods of Rock they are touring again, not that I'll ever get a chance to see them. 5/5. Superlative. No notes.
One of the greatest albums of all time
This is their best album, not that it was really in question. Every song has purpose and its own identity. There are no skips and all songs work better in album order.
Hard to not give this 5 stars. There are just too many great songs on this album. Highlights: "Wonderwall", "Cast No Shadow", "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Champaign Supernova"
Vitonen....
On tää aika hieno levy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hyviä melodioita ja koukkuja pullollaan. Ties kuinka monelle vaikutteita antanu. Ja onhan wonderwall kyllä silti wonderwall.
Un álbum excelente
Classic Brit pop
AMAZING Genuinely got so excited when i saw this was the album for the day love love love
One of 2 good Brit Pop records on this list. The other and vastly superior is Different Class. But this still holds up.
Hot diggity damn, I needed something like this for my mood this morning. Perfect album.
The best britpop. By a mile
Not sure why I got this album generated to me a second time, but it's still a phenomenal album, so another 5 stars for Wonderwall.
Still bitter about not getting tickets. 5/5 Brit rock album
Dont like the swamp stuff tho
Is easily their best album and one of the defining records of the 90s. It balances raw attitude with emotional depth in a way that feels both effortless and iconic.
Genre-defining!
Culture that made you say culture was for you = this album for me, sweet 7th grader. Probably one of the first albums that I had found and decided was my personality for a while. Like my AIM away message often just read 'Some might say we will find a brighter day' in a moody font because yes I was that girl. I remember thinking that I was bringing up some groundbreaking thing when I realized Don't Look Back in Anger sampled Imagine in the beginning. Yeah, I was at an impressionable age when I listened to this for the first time and genuinely LOVED Wonderwall. I still love it but also get the cringe now.
Muy buen álbum me gustó mucho
Wow, just wow. I am actually pissed at myself for putting this record off for so long. Wonderwall aside, I am extremely surprised how many other Oasis songs get swept under the rug because of it's immense popularity. 4-5 songs on the first disc of this project were complete bangers. Super glad I listened all the way through, and was sleeping on the ENTIRETY of this record, for WAY too long. This a turbo banger, end of discussion. One of the best releases of the 90's :) -Ranking a 4.5/5 -Favorite songs = Cast No Shadow, Some Might Say, Hey Now!
A classic. I'm very familiar with this album but not one I listen to very often.
The most overhyped and overplayed song in the world is Wonderwall. Still I am impressed by the quality of this album. There are so many great songs, and when Noel Gallagher gets his time to shine on the vocals (on Don’t Look Back in Anger or harmonies like on Cast No Shadow) they get even better. I didn’t remember this album as such a good one, but it really is. Favourite songs: Roll With It, Don’t Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, She’s Electric.
todos los pesados de mierda tienen razon, este album es buenisimo 9,5/10
Me encantó, like un montón de canciones
My parents showed me Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova when I was like 8, and I’ve loved them ever since. This is the first I’ve listened to this album in full, though, and I’m glad I did. The whole thing is rad. I love that whichever Gallagher brother is singing always pronounces “do” and “to” as “dew” and “tew.” And I love their chord changes and melodies - is that something I can say as a total musical ignoramus? Too late, I fear.
The best
This album is so good that wonderwall isn’t even the best song on it. It’s 50 minutes of “Hell Yeah” music to me, and not at all blinded by nostalgia.
Chaaaaampagn supanovrrrrr in the skaiaiiii
The best
Don’t look back at anger Champagne supernova Roll with it Morning glory Wonderwall Hello Cast no shadow Some might say Hey now!
Until today, I was always under the impression that I did not like Oasis. I think that I've heard "Wonderwall" so many times between Guitar Hero and the radio that it just makes me want to roll over and cover my head with the pillows, but hearing the entirety of this album really made me change my mind. It's made me realize that one song out of context can really give a poor impression of a band. Wonderwall is even on this album. Sandwiched between other songs, I actually didn't dislike it. When I can, I try to give albums on this list two full listens during the day. I think I was only part way through the front half of listen #1 when I started realizing that this might be my first 5 star album--for a band I thought I hated. As I listened to the album more, I realized and acknowledged that the 5 star rating really does feel right for me. I don't know if it's because I grew up in the 90s, so this is "my era" and I'm nostalgic for it (that'll be interesting to see as time and stats go on), but I just feel like the lyrics and the music settles well with my soul. I'm currently writing these notes on listen #2 and I'm still not finding fault with it. The dog is happily curled up with me on the couch and I can easily envision myself rocking out at an Oasis concert to "Roll With It", turning to the stranger next to me and having that brief but magical concert moment where everything is OK and nothing can stop us from singing and dancing together for the rest of at least that song. That microbubble is good and pure and musical goodness. It's this kind of magic that only good musicians can bring to the table. If it isn't five stars, what is?
Excellent album! Great music and songs!
It is a very good album, but it just makes people my age go and listen to the Beatles instead. 5 stars or A-.
Elite, elite
One of the best albums of the 90s.
I always hated them but after listening I have to confess that this record is close to perfection.
High hopes for this one. Only have heard good things about oasis. Right off the bat I like it. Love the guitar on hello. Good vocals. Layers of guitars towards the end is so cool. Just a great solo. Don’t like the vocals as much on roll with it, but really good guitars again. Nothing really needs to be said about wonderwall. Maybe a perfect song. Great lyrics, simple but great guitar. Cool strings too. Don’t look back in anger is another absolute banger. Songwriting is so good. Cool organ in the background. Great guitar solo obviously. Hard to follow up those two songs, but hey now is really fun. LOVE the fade into swamp song. Really cool sounds in this one. Incredible guitars. Wish it was longer. Some might say is pretty good. Nothing too special about this one. Really good songwriting and guitar as is the case in all of these songs. Cool harmonies on cast no shadow. This one is very poppy as opposed to a lot of the other songs leaning more rock. Not my favorite but not a bad song. Cool stings in this one too. Not really sure what instrument(s) it is but sounds like some violins maybe. She’s electric is pretty different. Much more fun and upbeat. I like how it opens with a. Little guitar solo. Good story telling in this one. Great guitar riff on morning glory. And again great songwriting. This is a really really good song, I’m kind of shocked that I’ve never heard it. It’s very 90s rock but in a good way. Great solo. And another awesome fade into swamp song pt2. Not enough of that. But I love how it fades right into what might be the best song on the album, even with wonderwall. Champagne supernova is another arguably perfect song. So emotional, so well written. Never realized it was 7 mins, great for all 7 mins. Really cool musical break/guitar solo. Again it’s just a perfect song. What an album. I get the hype, I get why people were/are upset that they broke up. I already want to listen to it again. I need to own it at some point. I think it’s the best I’ve heard so far, previously ten by Pearl Jam. I’m so tempted to give it the first 5/5, but I just don’t know what else is to come, and for some reason my gut is saying 4.9. So 4.9/5 it is.
4-5 gran album, un clasico de oasis con las mejores canciones tanto en cd/vinilo como en vivo. Los recontra amo
I think this album deserves the hype. It rocks, it's earnest, it's big, it's small, it's thoughtful, it's rare, it's era defining for good reason. They aren't all awesome, but most of them are and none of them skippable - it's a banger of an album. Performed and produced very well, and the songwriting itself is really what pushes it over the top. Champagne Supernova as the closer is all time. 4.8/5
5 sterne
Absolutely the best British pop album to start with a song called Hello. This is a really impressive album, I really only knew them from Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, so I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of range that this album had. There were a lot of really interesting songs, and it had a lot more distortion and such than I was expecting. Really solid project, this is why they’re better than Blur. Favorites: Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, She’s Electric
Now this record is where Britpop truly peaked! Oasis had already taken Britain by storm with their mesmerising debut 'Definitely Maybe', introducing listeners to the fiery sibling rivalry of Liam and Noel Gallagher, as well as solid rhythm guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, tidy bassist Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll, who was replaced by Alan 'Whitey' White during the sessions for the second record. And that second record, '(What's the Story) Morning Glory', turned Oasis from a surprise British success story into a global phenomenon, and throughout much of 1996, they were one of the biggest bands in the world. And for what it's worth, (What's the Story) Morning Glory has few dull moments, much like its predecessor. 'Hello', 'Roll With It', 'Wonderwall', 'Don't Look Back In Anger'......that's the first four songs and all of them are iconic in their own right, especially 'Wonderwall' (and its legendary meme status) and 'Don't Look Back In Anger', Noel Gallagher's first go at singing lead vocals on an Oasis track and he nailed it straight away. Then you've got other classics such as 'Some Might Say', 'Cast No Shadow', 'Morning Glory' and the culmination of the hypnotic 'Champagne Supernova' and you realise this record lives up to all the hype it received. I think I still prefer 'Definitely Maybe', but '(What's the Story) Morning Glory' is very nearly as good, and it was never going to be easy for Oasis to live up to two near-perfect albums, later proven by the massive let-down of third record 'Be Here Now' and their inability to reach those same heights in the 2000s. Look at their recent live shows. The setlists consist predominantly of material from this record and 'Definitely Maybe', that should tell you enough about how iconic this record is. The Gallagher brothers are arrogant tools, but damn they made amazing music! Best songs: The entire thing!
4.5 stars I first listened to this album about a decade after it came out and it was a classic. I listened the hell out of it. And then I kind of stopped for a long time. So coming back to it I wasn’t sure how it would be for me. I got Definitely Maybe on here a few months back and it hit a ceiling in the mid range. But dammit if this album isn’t a hell if a lot more interesting. It’s bigger, it’s bolder, and it’s more enjoyable. No skips (except maybe “Hey Now” but it’s not too bad). I think this is the best of the Britpop 90s era.
Hit sur hit sur hit...
Unreal - still sad I didn’t get to see them live last year
It’s good to be back, it’s good to be back to the place where you’ve been happy! I can’t be objective with this record — it still means the same to the young guy who used to listen to it as it does to the older one who finally got to see them live last year
