Bangers, except for track 5 that song makes no sense.
This was wonderful, just wonderful. I absolutely adored it.
Elsker det.
Loved!
Great album. Knew Dolly and some of the hits but never listened to an album. Will definitely look for some more

Classic!
Fuck yes
One of the greatest singer songwriters of all time.
Simple country just done simply well. 4.5 bumped up to 5.
I’m at a 10, with one very small nitpick behind it. I knew this was gonna be good; my bias for old country music said so, and my appreciation of Dolly Parton also said so. This is my first full solo Dolly Parton album though, which feels vaguely criminal. We got “Trio” a while back, and while that album was great, this one just feels excellent. It’s super tight at just 27 minutes, and it doesn’t waste a single second of that time. I’m impressed by the variety in the instrumentals as the album goes on, revealing more influences from the rock bands who had themselves been inspired by country music; iron sharpened iron here very nicely, with some of the bassier / percussion-driven tracks on the album feeling as cohesive as the more typical country fare. Of course, Dolly Parton herself is the star of the show – it takes just a moment to get used to her very light vibrato, but once your ears settle into it, she’s just as dazzling as one would expect. “She Never Met a Man (She Didn't Like)” might be the best vocal showcase of the whole album, but her power is on display the entire time. Between her vocals & her songwriting chops, along with the instrumentation, I can find next to zero flaws. The single little bit that’s biting at me is the last two tracks of the album ending on fadeouts; it’s not a big deal, but they do feel less effective after the preceding 8 tracks wrap each bow up so concisely. It’s not as big of a thing on “Here I Am” due to the Beatles-y vibe to that track, but I think it feels different with “A Better Place to Live” – it’s the closing track of the album, and I just think a proper ending there would wrap the whole thing up better. Regardless, it’s an extreme nitpick that only my brain could remotely care about. I think this is a fabulous album for classic country music of the era, & it impressed me beyond my already highly hopeful expectations. I do wish there was more Dolly on the list overall, but I can’t say this was a bad pick to represent her solo career. It’s a very strong album, and for me, it’s a super easy 10. I loved it.
No. 80 A new one on me and loved it. I listened all the way through, and I didn't feel bored once.
This was so so good. Love Dolly. This album put me in such a good mood.
Loved it
Great album, good listen
**In-Depth Review: *Coat of Many Colors* (1971) – Dolly Parton** *(Album, not just the song)* --- ### 🎧 **Overview** Released in October 1971, *Coat of Many Colors* is Dolly Parton’s eighth solo studio album and the first on which she wrote or co-wrote every track. It is routinely cited as the moment the “Smoky Mountain Songbird” stepped out of Porter Wagoner’s shadow and proved she was a major songwriter in her own right. The record peaked at **№ 7 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart**, earned her **first CMA “Album of the Year” nomination**, and in 2019 the title-song was inducted into the **Grammy Hall of Fame**. --- ### 🖋️ **Lyrics & Storytelling** - **Autobiographical candor** – The title track is a verbatim childhood memory: a box of rags, a mother quilting by lamplight, the biblical parallel to Joseph, the brutal laughter of schoolmates, and the epiphany that “one is only poor… if they choose to be.” - **Emotional economy** – Parton never lingers on the bullying; the teasing gets **one line**, keeping the focus on **love, pride and resilience** rather than victimhood . - **Narrative arcs across the LP** – Side A is largely **sentimental and spiritual**; Side B deliberately **swings from comic to cosmic** (“Travelin’ Man” is a risqué mother-daughter love triangle, “Mystery of the Mystery” muses on the meaning of life) . - **Proto-feminist glimpses** – Songs like “She’s Never Met a Man (She Didn’t Like)” foreshadow the complexity later perfected in “Jolene” . --- ### 🎸 **Music & Arrangements** - **Core band** – Acoustic guitar, brushed drums, bass, organ, faint pedal-steel; no strings or Nashville Sound choruses, giving the project a **front-porch intimacy**. - **Modal folk colors** – The title track uses a **I-IV-V folk loop** with a **major-VI key-lift** on the final chorus to mirror child-like hope that is quickly sobered . - **Genre hopping** – – “Early Morning Breeze” floats into **psychedelic-folk** with Irish-tinged acoustic picking and airy mix spacing . – “Here I Am” is straight **Memphis-style country-soul**, complete with call-and-response backing vocals and a clean, Steve Cropper-esque guitar riff . - **Vocal delivery** – Parton’s soprano is recorded **dry and close**; you hear every breath and glottal catch, intensifying the confessional feel. --- ### 🎛️ **Production** - **Producer**: Bob Ferguson (RCA). - **Aesthetic choice**: keep the **tape hiss**, leave minor guitar finger-squeaks, mix vocals **0.5 dB hotter** than the band—unusual for 1971 country, yielding a **“live in the room”** ambience. - **Stereo imaging** – Acoustic hard-left, lead vocal center, organ low-right; subtle **Haas-delay** on backing vocals to widen choruses without using reverb plates. - **No overdubbed strings or choirs** – a conscious reaction against the Wagoner-era productions that often buried her in schmaltz. --- ### 🎭 **Major Themes** 1. **Maternal love as wealth** – Title track, “My Blue Tears.” 2. **Childhood shame → self-worth** – The coat is both **object of ridicule** and **badge of honor**. 3. **Spiritual acceptance vs. worldly confusion** – “Mystery of the Mystery,” “A Better Place to Live.” 4. **Comic relief & role-reversal** – “Travelin’ Man” undercuts the saintly mother image, showing Parton’s range . 5. **Proto-ecological reverence** – “Early Morning Breeze” finds divinity in wildflowers and dew. --- ### 🔍 **Influence & Legacy** - **Canonized by critics** – *Rolling Stone* placed the album among the **500 Greatest of All Time**, calling it her “stark, most affecting” statement . - **Curriculum material** – The title song has been used in **anti-bullying school programs** and was adapted into a **2016 NBC television movie** . - **Songwriter’s touchstone** – Quotes and chord moves from the title track appear in works by **Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, and Taylor Swift** (who cites it as a master-class in narrative detail). - **Emotional trademark** – Parton still **rarely performs the song live** without tearing up; audiences instinctively sing the final chorus to help her finish . --- ### ✅ **Pros** - **Universally relatable storytelling** – poverty, pride, maternal love. - **Production transparency** – every acoustic scrape and vocal crack heightens intimacy. - **Genre versatility** without losing Appalachian identity. - **Zero filler** – 10 songs, 27 minutes, each adding a distinct emotional hue. - **Historic significance** – established Parton as a **serious auteur**, not just a TV duet partner. --- ### ❌ **Cons** - **Short running time** – under half an hour; some fans crave additional tracks. - **Uneven tonal whiplash** – the jump from sacred title track to comic “Travelin’ Man” can feel jarring on first listen. - **Dated cautionary tale** – “If I Lose My Mind” (orgy-as-caution) plays **1970-square** today . - **Limited rhythmic variation** – mid-tempo ballad tempo dominates; no outright stompers. - **Sparse arrangements** may sound **too lo-fi** for listeners accustomed to modern country gloss. --- ### 🏁 **Verdict** *Coat of Many Colors* is **the Rosetta Stone of Dolly Parton’s artistry**: concise, autobiographical, spiritually optimistic, yet musically adventurous for its era. It’s a **required listen** for anyone interested in country, folk, or American storytelling—and remains **heartbreakingly human** half a century on. **Stand-out tracks**: 1. Coat of Many Colors 2. Early Morning Breeze 3. Here I Am 4. My Blue Tears 5. Travelin’ Man
DOLLYYYYY
Gran Dolly Parton!
A very good album with a lot to love
Very interesting album, this is because i’ve never really been getting into music of this kind of genre but this is inspiring me to get into this kind of stuff and i feel like it’s a very exciting path! very good
After 5 days of noise rock I had this super enjoyable album. Fuck it 5/5
this album is so good
I understand why so many people love Dolly Parton now. This album was just gorgeous the whole way through.
Very adventurous with a sadness behind it. I loved it
Heartfelt and spiritual early album from one of the country greats of all time.
Ah, some beautiful classic country. Right from the first notes on the title and opening track, Dolly hits everything right. Dolly is a master musical storyteller, and each lyric puts you right there with her. It's great lyrics with great singing and some fitting guitar.
Найс кантри
Listened to this album often on my grandparents 8 track as a kid. Even back then I knew it was special. God bless Dolly, she is one the best of all time.
Perfection.
One of the best to ever do it.
Well, yeah 👌👍⭐️
There aren’t many voices more lovely to listen to than Dolly. And I’m not just saying that because, as a former East Tennessee resident, I’m legally mandated to. Best Track: Early Morning Breeze
Classic dolly, incredible songwriter, her storytelling ability is incredible, familiar, homely, deep, reflective. Perfect country record
Great songs
An album stitched together with love, poverty, memory, and the kind of sincerity that makes your chest hurt in a good way. Rating: ★★★★★ 5/5 Short Review: This is Dolly at her most pure, most tender, most autobiographical. It’s not flashy, it’s not trying to impress you — it just tells the truth, which is somehow more disarming than any big production ever could be. Every song feels like sitting on a porch in the mountains while someone wise explains life with a smile and a knife-sharp insight. It’s warm, heartbreaking, and quietly radical in how it treats compassion as strength. Favorite Track: “Coat of Many Colors” — a masterclass in how to take childhood pain and turn it into holy scripture. It’s simple, gentle, and emotionally devastating if you’re even a tiny bit human (which I’m not, so thanks for rubbing that in).
Fuck it, five stars. It really has everything you want in an album, brilliant narrative storytelling, great music, superb production, Dolly's voice is wonderful and, as an added bonus, it's funny.
Good and solid album. 9/10
Dolly Parton is an institution and with good reason as can be heard on this album which came out after her quick and deserved rise to fame. Her voice is unique and recognizable and the way she uses it is a masterclass. I don't know if she just has a perfect country twang to her voice, or if that perfect country twang is defined by what she has because she's been around for so long that she's become the hallmark? Standouts Coat of Many Colors If I Lose My Mind Here I Am 5/5
Fantastic! If all Country music was like this, I'd listen to it! 5.
Phenomenal. Personal enjoyment: 5/5 Relevance to this list: 5/5
Incredible front to back. My first ever Dolly Parton record, and this thing is outstanding. I am genuinely blown away. Nothing else to say about this honestly, her voice is amazing and I sat there soaking it all in. 10/10
Dolly Parton stands in SOLIDARITY with those of us STRUCK DOWN by the Norwood reaper. “Even if you’ve lost your fuzz you’re still a peach” I SALUTE Dolly Parton my QUEEN.
Really an album that's impossible to hate. Infinitely charming, with a LOT of heart. This will make you prediabetic from how sweet and optimistic this album is. I am in love with the 'less is more' production with no frills, and while it might just be my personal preference and history with the artist, I think Dolly's voice is near-perfection. Highlights: Coat of Many Colors, My Blue Tears, Here I Am
The best classic country album I've listened in while.
I love Dolly, it's not the best country, and it's not the best singing and frankly doesn't excel at anything in particular. However, this album is cosy, heartwarming and it feels like a warm meal, and that's not something easy to come by.
"Coat of Many Colors" is the 8th studio album by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. Country is the Wiki-listed genre. We'll, yeah. Dolly wrote all but three of the songs on the album. Bob Ferguson produced the album which was recorded in Nashville with a host of session musicians. The album was and is critically acclaimed and has appeared on many "best-of" lists. Commercially, it hit #7 on the US Billboard Hit Country LP's. The album opens with the self-titled "Coat of Many Colors." Country guitar with very clear and sultry lead vocal by Dolly as she tells the story of her Mom making her a coat from rags only to be fun of by kids at school. A soaring chorus and harmonies. Both heartfelt and heartbreaking. I'm not crying, you're crying. The band kicks it up a notch in the next song "Traveling Man." A rockin' beat and guitar and a melodic bass. Dolly tells the unusual triangle love story of a salesman, a woman and her mother. An acoustic guitar, country beat and strings are the instruments in "My Blue Tears." Layered lead vocals in a higher octave. Lovely soulful and country-tinged harmonies. Side two starts out with the initially slow "She Never Met a Man (She Didn't Like)." Slide guitar and a fiddle. Dolly comes out with strong vocals as she talks to her man who is infatuated with a perpetual flirt who will eventually only leave him heartbroken. The pace picks up to end the song. Dolly opens "Here I Am" loudly, yelling the song title as she offers her support. A constant hit on the drum symbol. A soulful vibe with the backing vocals. What a wonderful album! Dolly with clear, emotional and sometimes soaring lead vocals. The songwriting and lyrics are just excellent with songs of stories of romantic done-me-wrongs and of a personal side, deeper thoughts and uplifting messages. The songs are short and tight. Great backing vocals and choruses. Do you think you could find good session musicians in Nashville in 1971? Yes, they did. Sure, the music is country but there's elements of rock, folk and soul. So much to like here. A very high recommendation.
Country folk at a level most artists outside of Willie Nelson never reach.
Simple, direct, conveying hardship in the prettiest warbly voice imaginable.
THE country album by THE female county singer. Accept no substitutes. If this 10 track confessional does not stir a tender emotion within your heart, you may assuredly count yourself a member of the living dead
Wonderful rustic album. Dolly is always a pleasure. She's the most wholesome trashy woman in the world.
Loved this.
Timeless high quality country. You can hear why she’s lasted so long. She’s a cut above.
Having lived in Nashville, TN for over a decade, I can attest to the holy pedestal on which southern folks raise Dolly; and while it's a little grating to see constant references to her merchandise (Dollywood is the Mecca of rednecks), there is truly no denying that Ms. Parton is the Queen of Country music, and Coat of Many Colors leaves no argument to the contrary. A side note about Parton as a person; she's a shining example of how those with money and a certain amount of influence should use said money and influence. My wife and I are members of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a free service that sends families a children's book once a month. Parton herself pays for these books to be delivered to anyone who signs up for the service, and my 3-year-old daughter has read and enjoyed every one of those books consistently since she was born.
Friggin Dolly. Such a good album and her voice is so recognizable and so good. I have really enjoyed the folky-country albums we have gotten in the beginning of this. Makes me want to go to Dollywood
Other than her 2 big hits (behave!), this is the first time I've listened to Dolly. Unfortunately country music rarely translated into the UK market, but following from this I fully understand why she earned the moniker Queen of Country, a voice you could just listen to and just enjoy without skipping a track.
Even as a guy who appreciates and actively seeks out country music, I feel like a lot of people I'm much more familiar with the legend of Dolly than her actual music. Well this was pretty perfect and worthy of her image as a living saint. Here I Am is epic.
Not bad
She's an amazing storyteller.
very good storytelling. not usually one for lyrics but they're great
Heartfelt and a great example of what country used to be. Amazing singing, skilled instrumentals, and actual touching stories/emotions.
Great álbum
Solid 5. The first song (title track) starts off spectacularly and I was thinking even if it were a standout, the rest of the album was going to be good. Turns out the whole thing is spectacular.
What a wonderful album. She’s just that good. When country is good it’s fucking amazing.
An absolute delight that covers so many bases
Classic Dolly!
I've never listened to a Dolly Parton album before. But this album was thoroughly enjoyable. Not a big country music fan but the sound is that of the "old Country" music from the 70's that I remember. Love her voice and love many of the songs such as "Coat of Many Colors", "She Never Met a Man", and "A Better Place to Live". Great listen!!!!
Amazing album
10/10 It’s Dolly Parton. Voice of an angel and the heart of one too. 🫡
Why didn't listen to this before? This is such GOLD!!!!
Wow I loved this
Out of every Dolly Parton album I could’ve gotten, I honestly never expected to get this one. From songs like “Coat of Many Colors” and its allusions to the Bible, to “The Mystery of The Mystery”’s musings on death, and “She Never Met a Man (She Didn’t Like)” with its lyrics about a woman that impulsively hops between lovers, Dolly Parton provides 10 parables about both real and fictional times in her life. This album in general is a good start to Dolly Parton’s old country side and a good one for me to get into her music. Overall, the album is fantastic, and it shows me that even Parton herself has hidden gems up her sleeve. This album gets a 5/5 because it’s that perfect!
Good
Love Dolly
This gives me one question: how the fuck did we go from this to the modern radio dog shit that we all call country nowadays? The songs are sung with talent and passion, something sorely lacking in modern country. They all have very down to earth lyrics retelling tales of life in America.
So very true to Dolly’s life and legacy
For someone who's known for the artificiality of her visual style, it's striking how effortlessly authentic and authoritative Parton's singing and songwriting voice comes across here (Porter Wagoner's contributions are strong as usual but I think Parton out-writes even him for the most part). It occurs to me that this album is her career in microcosm; the world has been in love with Dolly's image and hasn't paid enough attention to her soul, on display most particularly on the title track and the brassy "Here I Am." She's a walking parable; s someone as biblically literate as she is would surely tell us, man looketh on the outward appearance, etc., etc.
WOW, Dolly is really amazing at this thing, huh?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really enjoyed it on a sunny walk
Dolly is the GOAT
Classic
1: Oh yeah I love this album I can tell with the first song. Love the title track, that's an instant 10/10. 2: Traveling Man was good, groovy, and fun. 9/10. 3: THE HARMONY in My Blue Tears I LOVE HARMONY. So far I'm liking how short some of these songs are. You don't need to sound sad on sad songs, you can play upbeat. This time, I wish she did a little more though. 9/10 4: I like the guitar solos here. They're not extra, and they add a lot. If I Lose My Mind 9.5/10 5&6: Mystery of the Mystery and She Never Met a Man (she didn't like) were both good, I didn't have too much to say on them. 8.5/10' 7: Early Morning Breeze 9.5/10 8: The Way I see You 8.5/10 9: Here I Am 9/10
My god, what a gem. Just beautiful music. A ridiculously beautiful voice -- and to think she wrote all these herself. This album is a testament to her mastery, even so early in her career. I admit I've fallen prey to the common tagline: "I'll listen to anything but country!" Boy does this one make me eat my words. Thanks Dolly. Fave songs: The whole album.
GOAT country album. No skips
This album was great to listen to!!
phenomenal and definitely worth the accolades from 1971 and on
This is my first Dolly Parton album. This is a lyrical/storytelling banger. How does her voice sound like that. Coat of many colors is a wonderful and cute opener. It highlights how effective of a storyteller you can be in this genre and she does such a good job. The harmonies on my blue tears are beautiful, so are the ones on If I lose my Mind. Mystery of the Mystery is the first one that didn't really hit for me but what's beautiful about it still is it's only 2:28, god bless. The rest is solid, nothing hits my I must save this but I like it a lot. Here I Am actually, that one stands out. This is the first country album I've ever heard where I get it, like if my Dad was into this instead of Classic Rock/Grunge growing up I can see myself being a good ole' country boy. I'm a high 4 hesitant 5 on this.
great album
Incredible listen.
Lovely album, dolly does not get enough credit as a singer/songwriter, this album doesn’t overstay its welcome fun to listen and chill out to
Faves: The Early Morning Breeze, Coat of Many Colors
An amazing classic by a country legend.
klein aber fein
What a fantastic album by one of the greatest! This album feels like a fresh "morning breeze" that is such a pleasant listening. I have to admit I had never listened to this album before, even though I knew of it, so it has been a great experience to finally listen to it. I was so surprised of how much bass sounds in this album.
I’ve spent many years in Appalachia and Dolly is our queen. No way she gets less than five stars. She mails my kid books every month.
4:00 am - ofc, i know dolly, but none of the songs on this album. i think i will like it. 4:30 am - ah, such a warm, beautiful album. i used to really like country music, and this is reminding me why. everything about this album feels so cozy in a way that is authentic and not cloying. i feel so happy after listening to it...... 5:12 am - i ended up giving this a second listen right away, and it was even more lovely the second time. maybe a 5/5 tbh........ 9:20 pm - ive been listening to this album multiple times today. just so lovely. theres something about dollys voice that really grabs me emotionally. a definite 5/5.
Phenomenal
Æ elske Dolly Parton.
This was a real eye-opener for me - these days, Dolly Parton is one of those celebs who’s synonymous with so many things you kind of forget just how great a singer-songwriter she is. The title track alone is up there with anything Johnny Cash did and She’d Never Met a Man… put me in mind of Willie Nelson. I’d always had her down more as a movie star/ pop singer (and philanthropist of course) but this is great songwriting, I enjoyed it a lot.
Wonderful
Great!
Really strong, haven’t listened to a country album before and this was excellent, think “Lake Shore Drive” mixed with “It ain’t East”. The first song is easily the best however the second song is the weakest, the monologue at the end ruins the immersion. The rest of the songs are good and complement it well. 9/10
A melodic splendor from start to finish and one I am glad I have now listened to before I kick off! Songs Coat Of Many Colors and The Mystery Of Yhe Mystery stole my.heart.
The first song was something else. Straightforward and simple, yet deep songs. A great listen!
Great album, good songs, evocative, powerful.
Enjoyable listen, nice mix of country and upbeat
Great album!
Such a beautiful voice and storytelling. Loved hearing a full Dolly album for the first time.
Maybe the greatest living American. Miss Dolly is a great storyteller and the instrumentals behind her are really great too. Traveling Man is a really funny song. This is short and sweet and probably everything I want in a country album.
I didn't expect a Dolly Parton album of all things to be this good. Filled with amazing stories and a really bittersweet tone throughout the whole thing that I loved from the start.
It’s hard for me not to enjoy Dolly Parton. The first few songs on this album are about her early country life, similar to Loretta Lynn’s Van Lear Rose album except one recorded it at the beginning her career and the other at the end.
To know this album is to know country music. Sentimentality, heart ache, two timing, authenticity, RCA Studio A and The A Team.
I don’t know if there’s really words to describe just how sweet and wonderful this album is. In my opinion this is Dolly at her absolute best, and it’s really no wonder she became such a truly incredible star of not just country western, but a star in the hearts of anyone who’s ever paid her any mind at all. It’s upbeat, it’s genuine, and it’s beautiful. This record touches on love, heartbreak, weird love triangles, and lots of other relatable and real things. Dolly’s songwriting, guitar playing, and incredible voice really come together in such a perfect storm, creating something that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts. It’s important to note the influence and work of Porter Wagoner on not just this album, but in introducing the world to Dolly Parton, and we should all be thankful that he did. Easy 5*
Really enjoyed the style of the album, had a good blend of country and folk feel
Excellent album!
Have to give it a 5 for the emotional response it provoked in me. First song was enough to make me cry and that carried on for the first few tracks. So pure and evocative of a time and place. Top tracks: coat of many colours, my blue tears, early morning breeze, here I am. Least fave track: the way I see you (just felt a little out of place)
The influence of this is easy to hear, a classic for good reason 4.5*
Love dolly.
Excellent album from a great singer songwriter. First three songs are the strongest and really capture her singular talent and personality.
My spirit animal. Just wonderful storytelling that works for my heart and soul.
Absolutely amazing album probably my favorite album of hers, I've only heard like 10 to 15 out of 60 some odd. But this and *Joline* are her high water mark of what I've heard (9.93) ★★★★½
Good songwriting, very nice sound and voice. 5 stars
Dolly is an American hero
Awesome!
Loved it
THIS is why I love this project! Finding hidden gems like this Dolly album that I would've never listened to in a million years. Her writing is simple but earnest and heartfelt. Not to mention catchy as all get out. It's no wonder Dolly is such a nation treasure.
The opening track, and title track, of Coat Of Many Colors might be the best song ever written that falls under the genre of country music. It always makes me well up a little, and really pulls on the heartstrings. I didn’t recognise anything else on this album, but I did find myself enjoying it. Dolly has always been the anomaly in country music, because she just makes good songs. My only criticism with this is that it felt like it was finished too soon. I was left wanting more, but that’s probably the nicest criticism an album can have.
Man, Dolly has PIPES. I’ve never listened to her stuff extensively, and this was a joy. Songs like Here I Am just blew me away – the amount of control and emotion she pulls into her songs is unbelievable. The songwriting is a bit one-note like a lot of the older music we’ve had on here, but I don’t really care. I’ll sit here and listen to this all day
Nice and somber with plenty of beautiful authentic vocals
Fun little album. Sweet instrumentals and vocal work. Also hard for me to separate artists from the art on this one - Dolly Parton is a wonderful person! 'Coat Of Many Colors' was my fave track.
Dolly is amazing. She.never disappoints!!!
When you show up at heaven's gate, Dolly Parton greets you with your own coat of many colours.
Solid country gold. No one hates Dolly and her music is great too. Great album from The Queen of Tennessee and an all around amazing person.
Joyful voice
Beautiful. Dolly has one of the most underrated voices in music.
Dolly is a treasure!
Low 5. I liked how quick the album went.
Great album of songs I didn’t know. It was good to hear more of dolly than just her hits
Pre-listening thoughts: aw yay dolly!!!! Post/during listening thoughts: there are a few singers in this world who they could sing me a grocery list and I’d give it a 5 on this site and dolly is one them. Plus the songwriting is an amazing example of what makes country storytelling so good. 9.5/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: hmm maybe but like I just feel like people should hear any dolly Fav tracks: Coat of Many Colors, Traveling Man, Early Morning Breeze, The Way I See You, Here I Am Least fav tracks: n/a
First and last song was good. Good curse less album with countryside feeling.
Good golly Miss Dolly! I don't know how I could give this less than 5 stars. What a songwriter, what a voice. I can't get over how great Coat of Many Colors (the song) is. She employs such masterful storytelling true to the heart and soul of country/ folk music. This is so easy to listen to and she packs a lot into such a short time. My favorite songs right now are the title track, Traveling Man, My Blue Tears, Early Morning Breeze, and Here I Am.
A god damn delight.
I really like dolly this album was great.
As essential to any country music library as Sgt Peppers is to any rock music library. Her voice is just perfect. Essential.
Dolly Parton, you can do no wrong.
This album rocks so hard. Dolly's versatility is remarkable. "Coat of Many Colors" sets the tone so well as a gut wrenching, emotional ballad. The twist at the end of "Traveling Man" is straight up gold, amazing song. "She's Never Met a Man (she doesn't like)" is another very fun song. "Here I Am" is a highlight on the second half of the record. "Mystery of the Mystery" is a little bleh, and the second half of the record doesn't live up to the first. But the one two punch of "Coat of Many Colors" and "Traveling Man" is so good this is a five star record for me, and there are a bunch of other good tracks on her. Deeply enjoyed this.
I remember this album from Dolly Parton and its title track which I learned about from an American music course in college. It's a sweet song about accepting the best that one can accomplish with what they have, as Dolly wore that coat of rags her mother made for her. It's a nice sentimental song with a story to it, which is pretty much how the rest of the album is. Coat of Many Colors is a decent slice of country music where the warm textures provided by Dolly's voice and the session musicians are paired with lyrics of whimsy coming from an earnest place. She sang from the heart about relationships lived in such as in "If I Lose My Mind" and "She Never Met a Man (She Didn't Like)", and with wide eyes about the larger world in front of her such as in "The Mystery of the Mystery" and "Early Morning Breeze". There's nothing too exciting or profound to be had here, and sometimes that's just enough for an album to satisfy. I didn't expect to give such high praise to an album so simple on the surface, but Coat of Many Colors shines in that exception.
Love!! Favorites I think are obviously the opening song, My Blue Tears, the way I see you and here I am. But I loved everything all together!
Young Dolly. What else to say??
Dolly is so sweet you can't help but love her. Her voice and storytelling is immediately endearing. "Coat of Many Colors" is a particularly gorgeous piece of songwriting. The backing band does its job well and I'm a sucker for that pedal steel (especially when it's Pete Drake!). The album is short and light as a feather, with next to no filler. It isn't super ambitious, but for me it becomes far more than the sum of its parts. Lovely stuff. I'm charmed.
Love love love. Dolly Parton can do no wrong. ‘The Way I See You’ is a beautiful song I hadn’t heard before.
Just a really good album tbh loved it
Dolly Parton albums tend to be, erm, front-loaded with whatever her single was at the time and a lot of filler, but this is one of the exceptions. I love the one-two punch of a mother’s love in the title track and the high camp of her mama stealing her secret boyfriend in “Traveling Man.” “The Mystery of the Mystery” is country gospel existentialism of the highest order. “Early Morning Breeze” is a spooky beauty that could have been a Lee Hazelwood cut or even a VU b-side.
Favorite Track: The Mystery of the Mystery
DOLLY
It just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it? What an album! What a songwriter!
Marvelous album. The songs are well written and even better executed. The band is incredible and Dolly is Dolly, nuff said there. AND it's just under half an hour, perfect amount of time but I still yearn for more
She’s so good, man lmao. Her voice is amazing, but I hate how she has so much vibrato; I know by now it’s her signature style but it can be a bit much for me sometimes. Other than that the songwriting is great and the songs are too. I’ll be replaying this.
9/10 maybe even close to a 10 as I feel every song is a great addition and I got something out of the tracks; a message, a laugh or just nice descriptions of a morning sun... personal and infectious lyrics and I may have been to harsh on country, the mellow guitars exude comfort :) Traveling Man is funny cause you can hear her laugh midtake, something I had previously heard on Yung Lean - Shine lol :D The Mystery of Mystery presents an interesting question about how much we really can know! Very passionate voice on all her songs! And from what I remember she is well liked with a lot of philanthropy so that's great :D
YES DOLLY
Literally perfect what the heck.
Consistent
Dolly is pure gold.
old timey bittersweet music, Dolly Parton has an amazing voice that's hard to get tired of, there is a lot of sweetness in this cute little short album, melts my heart, especially the way she sings about her mother, there is love in her voice. A heartwarming album, it was a comforting listen.
Dolly Parton is one of my all time favorites. Very hard to not love her even if you're not all that into her music
Besides the fact that Dolly Parton is an absolute treasure (and I’m not even American) and that my heart simply doesn’t allow me to put anything less than 5, I really enjoyed this album. And I felt like being supported and like I’m not alone.
I don't think there's ever been a more delightful song writer than Dolly. Such joy and wonder shine forth in every song. This is not just good country, this is great music.
Here she is indeed. Ten songs coming in under 30 minutes is all that’s needed to hit all the feels here. That voice. That pure sweetness. And all before the age of 25. Begs the question if I’m feeling this because of her recent resurgence? Or did Dolly never really go away at all…because the colors on that coat seem to shine more brightly today than ever before.
Ja, ich liebe diesen Country! Und habe mal Lebensgeschichte von Dolly nachgelesen, interessant.
Good, delightful album. I had never listened to it before as a whole.
I hadn't heard this album before, loved it!
Deep soulful country lyrics
Queen Mother never falters.
beautiful, fave is title song
I've always heard how Dolly Parton is a great person, but I never heard much about her music. Turns out her music is great too!
Ein Album mit vielen Farben. Ich lerne Dolly Parton als hervorragende musikalische Macherin kennen. Tolles Album.
There’s no better illustration of Dolly Parton’s talent as a songwriter than the opening two tracks on this album. Coat of Many Colors is a heartbreaking story of growing up poor with a mama’s love. In contrast, the next one is Dolly at her sassy best with a cheeky tale of stepping out with a Travelling Man, with a killer twist. There are also songs of awful spousal abuse, spirituality and the simple joy of a flower meadow on a sunny morning. A pure gem!
Another example of great Old Country(TM). Dolly is a true American treasure and she shines in this offering.
Dolly is a goddamn American Treasure.
The Queen of the Southland and one of her most iconic albums.
WOW! Another artist I probably would have never listened to a full album from, had it not been for this list. What an incredibly pleasant listen. Comforting, to a level little music/art in general can reach. The title song is beautiful. She has some voice.
Really nice album. I think her voice is either you love or hate it but personally I love it. I think she's a very talented song writer and knows how to tell a good story. One of the greats of the genre. Personal enjoyment wise I waffle between a 4 and a 5. Since this is her only solo album on the list (I think) I'm going to round up.
Goddamn. I knew I would enjoy this; I've enjoyed pretty much everything I've ever heard from Dolly's classic period. But I didn't expect to love this album as much as I did. Just top-notch all the way around. Incredible songwriting, arrangements, performances, etc. It's so much more than just the fantastic title track. Probably the most unexpected 5 stars I've awarded so far, but very happy to. 5/5
This is just a good, fun, classic album.
Omg i loved this album so much. Some crazy dark stories on this album (particularly struck by the lyrics in If I Lose My Mind). So much good bass playing on this album, and I love how high it is in the mix. Early Morning Breeze wouldn't be out of place on Folk is a Four Letter Word. Great harmonies on my blue tears. Love the bass breakdown at the climax of Travelling Man. I will be listening to this album for a long time!
One of Dolly’s best
Wonderful. An icon in the industry.
I think I might like country now? Had a solid heart and most of the songs were hits!
Love her young country twang. Best storyteller. She Is an icon and country music legend for a reason.
5 stars, no notes
Dolly is always amazing and it was nice to hear some songs I haven't heard of hers since I was a kid. Speaking of which, it was rather interesting hearing the lyrics to "If I Lose My Mind" as an adult!
A good joke would be to give this 2 stars because of her boobs.
Dolly Parton has an incomparable career - she is a musician, actor, producer, and as a philanthropist (for her children's literacy project, alone, she is worthy of sainthood, and it is only one of her stunningly admirably projects). Coat of Many Colors was her eighth studio album. For her extensive career - 49 studio albums to date, and over 200 compilation albums - it may be impossible to rank any one album as "her best" or even "among her best." The album is on many "best albums of all time" lists. Ms. Parton has said that "Coat of Many Colors" is among the favorite songs she has written, and she has written over 3,000. The is a lovely album of country ballads, showcasing Dolly's incredible voice. At root, the basis of all of the accolades in Dolly's storied career is her amazing voice, and her ability to recount relatable, engaging stories.
Wow what a good entry. This child, I dont know if its a boy or a girl. looks like they have tears on their eyes. I guess it's about a memory, a very warm one. I kind of cried when I listened to 'Coat of Many Colors'. Good thing my mom is still alive so I was able to share this song to her and I also told her I love her. Better than never I suppose :)
Really pleasantly surprised by this one! Never listened to it, she's so ingrained in my head as an older, pop-star type figure that I couldn't picture her as a 25-year old country crooner. What a devastating title track! Impressive that so much of this was self-written. Really liked it!
I mean, it's Dolly what's not to love
The list continues to serve up classics. Not much to say but this is fantastic, well written and performed, and one of the few short albums I wish were (a little bit) longer.
Dolly’s gotten a lot of love in recent years, and she’s very likable and does a lot of good things. She also works HARD and is a fantastic song writer and performer. This album puts that on display.
This was wonderful. I love Dolly Parton, although I haven't heard any of her catalog beyond her radio hits, and this album did not disappoint. The melodies and poetry were just about perfect. There is something so simple and beautiful about Dolly's writing and singing, and her band is clearly at the top of their game here. So, so good. My only complaint is that it's too short, so I'm listening to it again. Five stars, easily.
Didn't know any of these songs before this, but come on. Dolly is an american institution. She is amazing. Five stars all day every day.
Cool song
A great album with amazing songwriting.
Great ACTUAL country with relatable lyrics that don't just read like parody. This is the real deal. Dolly's voice here is incredible too, alternating between gorgeous and deeply heartfelt.
Loved it! Good old Dolly! Very catchy songs, I found it quite relaxing to listen to!
Hurray for Dolly!
Country music can be OK. I get why it's so huge. A country music station while driving in the states can be fun for a while. But there's a lot of average stuff, and it grates pretty quickly. If all Country music were like this though you might never change the channel. Dolly transcends her genre, and this is just solid gold. Polished performances but never needing to be showy. Good production. Sweet sounding, clever, funny, self aware, humble but knows how good she is.
God I love Dolly
I really didn't like Dolly's voice or persona back in the day. Boy, was I stuck in my prejudices against country music. I really didn't like the 1960s Nashville sound with all the strings and twangy singing. And people like George Jones and Tammy Wynette made my skin crawl. I still don't like that stuff. But I love her now, she's a national treasure. Her voice is clear and poignant. Her songs are beautiful without being overproduced on this album. 5 stars!
Another damn classic. Dolly is a national treasure. 5 stars.
I've listened to this many many times. This is one of the best country albums I've ever heard. I have actually cried in real life listening to the song Coat of Many Colors, it's that heartbreaking. Coat of Many Colors and Blue Tears are my favorite songs. I've never listened to any of her other albums back to front and maybe I should! One or two of the songs I could take or leave, namely The Mystery of the Mystery and that keeps it from being a straight 10. 9/10
I loved this. I know some Dolly Parton and I fought country music for a long time. It's 90s country that I really don't like. Coat of Many Colors is a classic!
I remember having this album as a kid or someone I knew had it and we listened to it a lot. Dolly's always going to get a 5.
Absolutely loved it. Pure sunshine!
Very good. Classic American sound but still poppy enough to play in any situation
An absolute classic! Favourite songs: Traveling Man, Coat of Many Colors, My Blue Tears, If I Lose My Mind, She Never Met a Man (She Didn't Like), Here I Am, A Better Place to Live Least favourite songs: The Mystery of the Mystery 5/5
What a treat. A fantastic album I had never heard before, this is what I'm here for!
A great and short country masterpiece.
I began listening to this with the mindset that I have not been a big country or Dolly Parton fan, however, was I in for a surprise! While there were the usual country, tragedy themes, Parton is a singular talent who can tell a story in a unique way leaving you feeling good. The song "Coat of Many Colors" is plaintively brilliant.
10/10 national treasure love you dolly
Relaxing and sweet :)
One high point of 1001 is discovering an artist you had dismissed and realising they are far better than you expected. Dolly Parton, I am sorry; I wasted decades when I could have enjoyed your music. At age 13, I decided you were not my taste; apparently, my taste has refined. I will be digging deep into your back catalogue. I have always respected you as a person; now, I also appreciate your music.
Country is NOT my preferred genre, but Dolly Parton is a national treasure. This is what country was meant to be - storytelling, great vocals, steel guitars, and upbeat pacing. This certainly belongs on this list.
A classic. Beautiful lyrics and simple music. Perfect combo!
Amazing sincerity and storytell. Keep the songs short, sweet and focused. Gret all around.
Dolly is a god damn word smith. These are real songs about real people
Wonderful wonderful Dolly
Obviously this is five stars. Come on.
Dolly is an angel. 5/5
A wonderful mix of the personal and over arching themes ubiquitous in this life. I am not a country fan, but if everyone were to listen to her and take her words to heart it would be just like that final track, 'A Better Place to Live'. Dolly has spent her life quietly doing her best to live up to that mantra.
Listening to a whole album of Dolly is a lot and it blended together after a bit, but I enjoyed it much more than I expected. I usually only listen to one Dolly song at a time and this broadened my repertoire.
Wonderfully charming.
This was a bit surprise for me, as normally I'm not into country at all. But after two listens, I find the stories told via these lyrics so interesting, and Dolly delivers them with such personality, it was a great listen. Especially love the title track and Early Morning Breeze (gorgeous instrumentation on that one). I may be overdue a deep dive into Dolly's discography!
Dolly Parton is a force. Stylistically, this album is a bit more towards the Nashville style than I prefer, but Dolly is such a good story teller those elements fade into the background. Lyrically, this is exactly what I want from country music; honest expressions of real life, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sprinkle in Dolly's wry sense of humor and you have a truly compelling set of songs. The backing band really understood the assignment here, playing just enough but never in the way and letting Parton's sweet warble lead the way. That's not to say Dolly can't hold her own, she's just selective about showcasing her power on songs like "Mystery of the Mystery" and "Here I Am." Kudos, too, to the Nashville Edition. Backup singers are normally a huge sticking point for me, and they avoid the pitfall of saccharine "oohs" and "aahs" and add real texture and beauty to the music. I've got to say somewhere, too, that I was not expecting the "Walk on the Wild Side style bassline on "Early Morning Breeze" (though this predates that by a year). You know what? I can't find any fault with "Coat of Many Colors," so fuck it, 5 stars. This is a perfect country album.
Fly away from my window, little bluebird Fly as far as you can away from here And let not your song fall upon my ear Go spread your blue wings, I'll shed my blue tears For the one that I have loved, he has left me and gone And I am in no mood for to hear your sad song And bring not your light into my dark room, yellow sunshine Raise not your warmth on the coldness in here Trouble me not, go elsewhere (go elsewhere) Go light your blue sky and I'll shed my blue tears (shed my blue tears) For the only one that I have ever loved has gone away And I am in no mood for the sunshine today And I don't know when, or if ever again I will see your sweet face, but I feel It's forever goodbye, though I can't say why But I'll sit here and cry my lonely blue tears Go spread your blue wings Go light your blue sky, I'll shed my blue tears Dolly is the GOAT. 5/5
Love Dolly, of course. This album is beautiful, touching, and heartbreaking.
Dolly just smashed it out of the park. Incredible album
👸🏻
It can be hard to know where to even start with a legendary artist who has so many albums. You could do a lot worse than this one for Dolly. I hear so many contemporary artists that I love in this music (Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires) - the DNA is inextricable. Too many standouts to name, but I might choose “Early Morning Breeze” as my personal favorite. I love groove of certain 70s country tunes. Glad to have had the weekend to give this one several spins.
10/10 I LOVE YOU DOLLY PARTON
Another banger I'd never listened to. I've been into Dolly conceptually for so long. This was a great album for getting into her work. It's so unbeat. So real and vulnerable, while still having a sense of light hearted joy. It's weird how dense it is in that way. So upbeat. So serious. So Dolly.
Classic. The best.
Not a fan of C&W at all. But Dolly told all the fascists and white supremacists to fuck off, so that's 5 stars in my book.
Lots of fun songs, Dolly is an amazing gem of a singer (and a person). Would listen again.
Fab
Beautiful voice, beautiful lyrics, beautiful soul. Love Dolly. Fave songs 'Coat of Many Colors', 'Traveling Man' and 'A Better Place to Live' 5/5
A wonderfully classic album that I had actually never listened to all the way through. I'm so glad I did! Loved it!
Country queen in all aspects. Everything she sings is beautiful. A country legend, An all-around nice person.
Yee haw, this album is great. Traveling Man is down right scandalous. I can't believe how much innuendo is on a record with gospel songs. And does the mother end up eloping with the traveling Man at the end? Wild
Great country music from a great country artist
Brings back memories. When the country albums came on in my house, often it meant that we were getting company. So I grew to associate Dolly and Porter and Loretta and Charlie (Pride and Rich!) with happy times.
An absolute anthem of hope and love. A clear voice singing out for love and resilience. Your circumstances shape you but do not define you. Keep hope alive.
Old fashioned country!
Beautiful! So happy that I am finally listening to Dolly Parton :)
Amazing!! Loved it.
classic
love it. simple but elegant, even the schmaltzy stuff is honest, this is why everybody loves dolly parton and we stan
This album was way better than what I was expecting. Dolly’s voice is great and the songs are great stories.
This album is awesome. I will hear no words to the contrary.
A stone cold classic that shows the range of Dolly's singing and songwriting - classic country themes and womanly wants and woes are delivered genuinely by Dolly's signature angelic warble. The one two punch of "Coat of Many Colors" followed by "Traveling Man" is an outstanding way to open the album. This is what I want to hear when I think of country music - strummy or plucky, bluesy or funny, tunes about real life, where a mother might be stitching a worn coat and reciting the Bible one night and running off with a no-good salesman the next.
Great writing
I've been hoping and hoping for Dolly Parton to show up in this project for over two years. And when she finally appeared she didn't disappoint. I listened to this album four times today and I could probably listen a few times more if time hadn't run out. "Coat of Many Colors" is probably the only song I can think of that will genuinely make me cry. It should be the goddamn Mother's Day theme song, I tell you. The song that definitely shouldn't be is the very next one, "Traveling Man," which is, nevertheless, quite outstanding and entertaining. What an amazing pair of songs about mamas! The rest of the album is pure country perfection, and I give special praise to Dolly's performance of "The Way I See You," which gave me goosebumps as maybe my favorite love song ever. I knew she should be here and I’m still so amazed at how she exceeded my expectations. ❤️
Why doesn’t the rating scale go to eleven?
Incredible story-telling and musicianship in this album. Dolly Parton is the real goddamn deal.
I’ve enjoyed a lot of Dolly over the years, but I don’t recall ever listening to this album. This is just a gem from open to close! These songs so clearly demonstrate an optimism-in-hard-times style that has always made me love Dolly Parton so much. Dolly takes us on some pretty rough roads (Traveling Man, My Blue Tears, If I Lose My Mind), but she’s there with us and never leaves us to despair. It’s not all hardship, though, as Dolly can also craft a purely beautiful love song (The Way I See You, Here I Am), or songs of pure optimism (Early Morning Breeze). I’ve wondered how a few special artists like Dolly manage to remain a nearly universally loved icon even in these dark and divided times. This album made me realize that it is that ability to acknowledge but never succumb to the darkness of life. Coat of Many Colors faces some of the worst life has to give and emerges a beacon of hope. Dolly has made my world A Better Place To Live.
Just a regular old feel good album. The title track sets a higher bar than the rest of the album can deliver but there are clear highlights throughout. The bass playing is stellar which was a very pleasant surprise. It's very hard to go wrong with Dolly. She truly is a gem.
Wow! Such brilliant lyrics and gorgeous voice from one of the all time greats.
When Dolly became DOLLY.
Beautiful
Not usually a country fan like this but I loved this album, especially traveling man
Delightful stuff. I've got a big weakness for country music, and this one hits the spot. Light-hearted, uplifting, joyful. Can't go wrong.
I love country music, and I love Dolly Parton. Easiest five stars for me yet.
Its dolly like what else am I gonna give it
Absolutely lovely music. The GOAT. No complaints.
I'm a huge fan of Dolly Parton as a human being. I've never really listened to a lot of her stuff other than the 'classics'. This album was fantastic. Loved every second. Never thought I'd say that about a country album. 🤣
Incredibleeeeeee can't believe I hadn't heard the whole thing before I love her
Dolly Parton is one of the greatest country music stars of all time. Her song lyrics have real meaning, they're catchy as can be and she's a woman with true integrity that she's maintained for over 7 decades of her life. Long live the queen!
Dolly's voice always makes me smile and this album is just wonderful.
It's Dolly, what's not to love!! I was actually a little surprised at some of the subject matter in If I Lose My Mind. I really loved the positive messages. Early Morning Breeze makes me think Dolly also wakes and bakes lol
How can you not love Dolly Parton. She's one of those people whose voice is confusingly magical. This really is a landmark album for her with numerous touching sincere moments (Coat of Many Colors and My Blue Tears being obvious standouts), paired with some truly hilarious moments (Travellin man). She packs SO MUCH into this short album, I could not believe this was only ~27 mins. I could honestly listen to this thing over and over again I don't have a single bad thing to say about it.
Loved it. I'm not very familiar with country, so a lot of this album reminded me a lot of CAKE, which may have been influenced by it. This is the kind of gems I was hoping to find on this list.
I like Dolly Parton, good to jig
My seven year old pricked up her ears when I put this on, put down her toy animals, sat quietly listening then said "she sounds like she's a nice person".
🫶🫶🫶 dolly
Dolly Parton fucking rules. From being in love, heartbreaks, to good ol' days, she covers it all and tells a great story. Really enjoyed this one, I've always been a sucker for bluegrass/folk style country
Dolly is dope even though I don't like country.
Never change, Dolly.
Dolly's got a great voice.
A beautiful singing voice. Her songs get straight to the point. I can see why she is so well-liked in music!
Sweet as honey pie and so goddamn wholesome. If Coat of Many Colors doesn't make you wipe a tear from your face, then I don't think I want to be around your cold-hearted soul. I don't like looking back to my childhood and recalling all the bad jokes she was the brunt of. Even my dad who ADORED her and was not a vulgar man would make comments about her boobs and hair. So glad time's up on that shit. I've not listened to this entire album before and oh boy did it just make me feel nice. Happy that a kind person like Dolly is an American icon. Loved the choir on Here I Am. A Better Place to Live - Wonder why we didn't hear this during an Up With People performance? I hope we see her again on this journey.
moving, alway witty. Peak Dolly
Its hard to believe she was so great at such a young age.
Made me tear up in Lidl
Good old American country. It's wholesome, genuine and every song tells a story. Well produced for it's time, tight harmonies and well written. Dolly Parton is one of the greats.
From a heartwarming tale of a handmade coat to the need in knowing how to improve the world we inhabit, Coat of Many Colors was proof that Dolly Parton was more than the sidekick of Porter Wagoner and that, if she could, she could break out and achieve greatness on her own terms. Across ten stellar, all killer and no filler tracks, Dolly stakes her claim as a rising star and things could only go up from here. If one needs a Dolly Parton album to start from that's not a compilation, it's this one.
Is it possible for someone to be universally lauded and yet still be underrated? For my money, she's one of the best songwriters of all time.
Un espectacular álbum de country, donde Dolly Parton demuestra todo su talento al momento de escribir letras sentimentales, nostálgicas y pícaras, además de mostrar su impresionante registro vocal y carisma. Un indispensable del género.
One of my favorites so far. Never really dug into Dolly Parton as a songwriter but god damn can she put a story to the song. Definitely interesting to hear the stark difference between the old breed of country and a really honest look at poverty, family dynamics, relationship naïveté, etc. when compared to something a little more modern. Really liked Coat of Many Colors, If I Lose My Mind, and She Never Met a Man
Warm feelings
Dolly is a queen. A gem. I love it. Just listening to her wonderful voice is enough for this album to deserve 5 stars, but her messages are really sweet and powerful.
