Reviews (page 8 of 8)

It got better with more listens and there were a couple of songs towards the end (Vaseline and ?) that were pretty good. Otherwise another disappointing one.

Best Song: Hold Me Now. Nice, short, to the point alt-rock track. Almost has a grunge feel. Worst Song: 2:1. Never felt like the song landed on a decent rhythm. Overall: Neither offensive nor interesting. I imagine it must be a historically relevant article, but to me it mostly just feels like a standard, rather dull alt-rock album.

The most consistently dull album that has come up so far. A few tracks are decent (still far from amazing), however the vast majority are just boring - not bad, not good, somewhere unsatisfactorily in between. I didn't dislike this album while listening to it, but at the same time I didn't hear much to convince me it would be worth revisiting, outside of the small handful of songs below. Standout tracks: "Connection", "S.O.F.T.", "Indian Song" and "Waking Up"

good ole rock n roll. theres nothing really special about the album.

Giving it a 2 for that one song only. More like a 1.5

Another case where the singles were ubiquitous back in the day but I never heard the whole album until now. Kind of nondescript on the whole and passes by in a bit of a blur ("pun" unintended).

Meeeeeeeeeh

Varsin tylsä punkrock-levy, ei oikein tarttunut mikään mukaan kuuntelusta.

This band is not bad but it's not my kind of music I like.

A bit unforgettable

Pretty average

Forgettable

Mediocre!

מגניב!! ניינטיז!!!!

Pretty ripe the first time around. Time has, alas, not been kind

Unmemorable

Didn't hate it but didn't like it. Won't be returning to it.

Not for me, but all right.

slightly ahead of its time but not for me

Nope, didn't work for me.

the album felt like something brittany spears would make as a collaboration with travis barker

Starts off strong with some pop-rock stunners, but completely loses all momentum with some middling ballads in the back half.

Connection is a banger, the rest not so.

First listen. Never heard of them before. I like the sound for the most part. I think this one will grow on me with time. Good alternative rock. 2/5 (for now).

Definitely of its time

Very '90s, feel like I'm in college again. "Connection" was kind of everywhere in the mid-90s, but I managed to miss them at the time. The album is a fun listen in general, but a lot of the songs in the middle fail to stand out and just run together. I was fully prepared to give this album 3 stars, but after listening to it all day on Sunday, on Monday I honestly can't remember any of the songs beyond the one I already knew going in. That's 2 stars. Fave songs: Connection, 2:1, Waking Up

Punk is a genre that in my opinion has seen its potential wasted a lot of times over the years, a ton of bands make music that sounds the same since the 70s. I liked a couple of songs, but most of it just felt boring and uninventive.

I like it because I like the genre, but of all 90s alt records that exists, I'm not sure why this is on the list. It isn't bad, but it isn't best of all time either.

Not on spotify actually, was a hazzle to listen on youtube, but it was an ok album

Better than I thought, but the singles are still annoying. The other songs were much better.

Pink rock for ladies.

It's a shame with this one for me. Seeing 1995 Britpop made me a little excited however it was to no avail really. There were a few notable tracks like 'Waking Up' but in general I wasn't blown away. I didn't hate it and can see why they could be popular. I didn't mind the heavily distorted guitar but the tunes just didn't excite me too much.

Didn’t hate this but didn’t love it either, just not sure it’s my kind of thing.

Ok, so _Elastica_ has a song used in _Trainspotting_ (2:1), and at least one other good song (the one about the car), but the rest of the album raised my tension levels. An exaggerated comparison would be a parrot squawking over garbage truck noises. So I skipped a bunch of songs after listening to them a little bit- they all kinda fell into the same bucket of poppy grunge with annoying lyrics. I’m pretty sure the singer is a cool person, but her teasing, mean girl delivery got tiring quickly.

02/17 - Yesterday I worked on the drum storage building set, setting up a print for redlines and picking them up in preparation for DC. I also looked at the height of the exhaust fans in the manufacturing building. I didnt give this album much attention but I it didnt seem like something I would be too interested in.

I didn't like nor understand. It sounds like a mix between Garbage and Oasis

Super lame grunge all the songs were mushed seriously

Decent girl-punk album, if you're into that. Couple of good tunes on here. Kind of like a poor man's Cranberries.

2 good songs and lots of whatever. Gotta sat, though, Connection is a helluva number.

No I hate this

Merry Christmas to all my thousandty-eighty-nine album compatriots out there. I'm all dapped up with my Hiby R4 Digital Audio Player. This thing kicks so much ass. I've been messing around with it all afternoon and hearing my favourite songs like I've never heard them before. Anyways, this album. I'm pretty sure I've seen this cover before, though to be fair there are plenty of things with grayscale photos and red stylised text. I'm pretty sure this is an electronic album, though I could be dead wrong. Duos are typically the upper limit for electronic acts, and electronic music isn't exactly something that women with pussies are known for creating. Britpop. My sworn enemy rears its ugly head again, aye? How many of these things are even in here? 23, and I'll have listened to 11 once I'm through with this. Could be worse - I'm at least halfway through the gauntlet. This album is pretty bleak. It follows the 90s alternative template to a T, which is only exacerbated by the 16 tracks that have been jammed into this thing. The composition of these songs aren't necessarily the same, but the general sound might as well be. Every single guitar riff/hook sounds the exact same, and the vocals rarely venture beyond sounding tepid and uninspired. While this was an incredibly dull listen, I wouldn't say I was bored. It just kind of went by. The only silver lining to this album is that YouTube Music put on I Fought the Law by The Clash once this album was finished. "Connection" is decent. The lead guitar hook is gripping and I like the gusto in the vocals. "Indian Song" is alright. I've never heard this kind of blend between Indian music and grungy, alternative 90s rock before, though it seems kinda counterintuitive to honour another nation in your patriotic music genre. They should have made the bold artistic choice to blend demonic mooslem music with their cool, alternative sound instead. They would have been truly prophetic and truly patriotic by modern British standards. Book time. Performed well in the States. Connection and Stutter have an enduring popularity. Nothing else in there of note. Wikipedia reveals that this album has a favorable critical reception and was the fastest-selling debut album since Definitely Maybe. Snippy snip time - get da fuuuuuuck outta here. In place of this album, I humbly submit Clouds Taste Metallic by The Flaming Lips for inclusion on the list.

Boring music

Aggressively, unrelentingly one note. 40 minutes has never taken so long, just not interesting at all.

I’m having a hard time understanding why this album is on this list. This is so 13-out-of-12 stuff.

Never heard of this one. A bit too much punk for me, I have to pass on this one.

Rubbish

nicht gehört

Awfully generic

Had one I kinda recognized

It’s ok

Schrott

baddddddd

Could barely stand!

Wow, did this list get this one wrong. More overrated 90s Brit Rock. An album that is not only not an all time classic, It wasn’t even truly relevant in 1994-1995 when the most relevant post punk/grunge female fronted bands that do belong on this list were Garbage in 1995, and The Cranberries in 1994. The album is a long 40 minutes, if you know, what I mean. Truly a bit of a slog. The only truly banging song on here is the hit, "Connection", and everything else sounds a bit too samey, with the exception of "Indian Song" which sounds like they were influenced by Kula Shaker, whose breakout album also came out in 1995. While their wikipedia article makes it sound like they were a success in the U.S., I can assure that as someone who lived through that era, they were insignificant to the American music scene. Not as insignificant as Justine Frischmann's previous project Suede, but they were certainly not turning heads in the Portland or Seattle scenes.

Not for me. 1

Muss man nicht mehrfach hören. Austauschbar.

Sounds like a brit-punk album. While I would expect a lot of variety in the list of 1001 albums, I would also expect it to be more intuitive why an album has been included. This one is not intuitive at all.

Not my genre. It's like britpop-punk, which is a combo that might work for me, but this doesn't.

This was pretty bad.

Allerwelt Gitarrenrock und Punk, ohne Drang nach nochmalanhören, eher qualvoll...

Punk rock band, with no great songs in their repertoire.

just boring NNN

Ooof heard worse. Didn't really pay much attention while this was playing

Dear god these albums are just getting worse. Writing anything more regarding this would just waste even more of my life.

Interesting but not particularly enthused about this album.

super crazy guitar mania deluxe 3 tyyppistä musiikkia..eli siis vähäisintä rokkia mitä koko maailmassa soitetaan . niim vähän näitäkim biisejä höylätty, geneeristä paskamusiikkia joka ei kuuöu lähellekkään mitään toplistoja. työttömien musiikkia. yksi arvostelu antoi 5 tähteä sanalla "brutal", mitähän vittua.. radio rock ROCK AND MORE ROCK ja soittaa tätä 2:1

Eh. It was alright. 90s rock. Not very catchy and the vocals seemed off

Nothing about this album was memorable. I found it to be just your standard euro pop. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song:

Didn't care for this

För tråkigt

Terrible

90s fare with some punk and Adam & The Ants Infusion.

Don’t really like this album. punk rock never it for me, especially punk rock with women’s vocals for some reason. Just comes across as punchy and droning. 2:1 kinda nice though.

Well, I liked 'Elastica' better than many of the other Britpop recordings I’ve heard, but just because I like cauliflower better than kale doesn’t mean I still want to eat much of it. I’d prefer a cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake. Actually, now that I think about it, 'Elastica' is more like a pop tart- a quick snack, but bland and not particularly filling. Its better when put in a toaster… the pop tart too. I don’t know if it’s my age (62) or my nationality (American), but for the life of me I mostly don’t know what these Britpoppers are singing about. The very first song referenced a certain ‘drivel head,’ but I’m neither clear as to what that signifies, exactly (drivel means nonsense, so ‘nonsense head’?), nor for whom that moniker is designated. And things digressed from there. By the time I arrived at the ninth song, ‘Blue,’ I gave up trying to decipher lyrics like: ‘John’s gone his sense loaded over by your house. It’s so basic.’ Not to me it’s not. And the fact that I only understood three out of the fifteen songs gives 'Elastica' the dismal score of 20% on the lyricalgraspometer. On the musical front, 'Elastica' was a snap, literally. A drummer who knows one tempo, a bassist one note, and two guitarists, who play chords well but wouldn’t recognize an instrumental solo if it politely held the door open for them. Another 20% on the musicallyintriguingometer. I reckon that’s a failing mark on either side of the Atlantic ocean. And whose decision was it to take the one positive thing about this band- lyricist and lead vocalist Justine Frischmann’s good looks- and turn her face away from the cover photo of the band? 25% mark on that one. Yet another failure.

This is the type of punk I don’t really care for. It feels whiny and too edgy. Some of the songs were skippable and couldn’t really get into the album. 2.6/10

First thought; is this Blur? Sounds on this album are cool, guitar tones are crazy and the bass is so dry! Not a big fan of this singing style and some of the songs are over before they've started but it's a good stick it on and let it run album. Very of its time. Not sure it's a top album though
