Day90 - I remember connection being a big hit in ‘95 but never listened to the album. better than i expected
It’s a decent album.
This was enjoyable.
Nothing notable.
Having never heard of this band before, I had zero expectations going into this album. What a treat that turned out to be. This is a great 90’s punk album. Well, I thought it was punk but Wikipedia says otherwise. Anyway. I had a good time with this. It’s 15 songs but somehow they fit into just 38 minutes. Even the shorter ones were great. Catchy hooks and a really tight band. Digging a little deeper into the band themselves, I found that two of the founding members and mainstays in the band were also in the band Suede. Now, I very much disliked the one Suede album I was dealt already. Good thing I didn’t know who the band members of Elastics were going in because I would’ve been biased against this album. The one negative thing I’ll say about this album is that the mix just wasn’t very good. I could barely hear the vocals on most tracks, that was both on my car stereo and in my headphones. I don’t know if that mix choice was intentional or not but it was distracting at times having to strain to hear the lyrics. Oftentimes I didn’t hear them. But take that away and you have a good album, especially as a debut. Three solid stars. Standout tracks: Line Up, Smile, Hold Me Now, Blue, Waking Up, Never Have, Stutter
This could really do with a tidy up rerelease, but given how bad the production was the master tapes were probably misfiled somewhere daft like the centre of the sun. Connection was the stand out track which was a theme song for Trigger Happy TV (a much better clearer version too)
I liked this for the most part, but was also left with that old "I wish I liked this more" feeling... Favourite track: S.O.F.T.
High energy girl (pop) punk, really polished and produced well but manages to capture some rawness and energy. Manages to also borrow from other contemporary 90's genres. Really cool album.
It’s ok. I’ll either give it a high 3 or a low 4
This could be a really, really good album, but there's some songs on here that are just misses, that don't do much of anything interesting. The good songs are excellent, including some of the 3-part harmonies, but it's just not a great album from beginning to end.
could i write poetry to this? y
3.5. Had this album on cassette
Besides the vocals I did enjoy this album. But I just wasn't a fan of how the vocals were done, if they were more balanced with the instruments I might like it better.
Ehh
Better than anything recently played.... not bad overall
Just felt like generic 90s alt rock. Wasn't offensive. Still nothing Im really appreciating as I have to listen to.
This was a fun album, some good strong songs in there. Good songwriting but quite niche in its sound. Stand out songs: Connection 2:1
When I saw this immediately thought this was some pop synth euro stuff. Soon realized it was 90s punk/alternative generic stuff. I recognized the third song - it was in a commercial. See That Animal is actually a good song. Some catchy stuff - basically a steaming pile of meh.
This is right up my alley, but not really a 1001 album I need to hear before I die 3
A few good hits but the rest is basic girlfriend arthouse punk. I can smell the angsty cig smoke from here.
Pretty cool! Not quite enough for me sonically, was just waiting for a song to really hit and none quite did.
Favourites- Connection, Waking Up Enjoyed listening to it but not great 3
Tykkäsin! Ei mitään muistikuvaa että tätä olis koskaan ennen kuullut ja kolmisen kertaa rullailin läpi.
Jees rokkisetti
Rad sound, but nothing I need to come back to.
It’s all trendy, innit? Like if I had to describe a rock album that did well in the mid-90s, this wouldn’t be too far off the mark (besides having a predominantly female lineup) HL: “Blue”, “Connection”, “2:1” February 4th, 2024
like a 3, not bad rock but not my type of rock
This is the sort of music I like, but it left me rather cold. It's fine, but it's all a bit vanilla and generic. There's nothing exciting here - the riff at the start of SOFT, the drums on Never Here and Stutter are quite nice, but there's not enough wow factor to have me come back for more. The 90s were a bit of a blank for me in lots of ways - I was too old to get into most new music throughout them - so I'd never really heard anything by the band. But why would I listen to this when I could listen to some Catatonia? I assumed International Velvet must be on this list, but it appears not to be. So, put something totally generic on it but miss out that voice and the way it makes the sound unmistakable? Fuck, that's just a flat out mistake.
3,5. Þetta er nostalgíupopp fyrir mig. Ágætt alveg.
3.5/5
Good but uneven. One five star song (Connection), a couple four star songs, a few more three star songs, and maybe one or two blah two star songs.
Pretty good! This type of music is my jam. This album started and ended strong, but the middle drug my rating down a star.
I enjoyed this quite a bit, lots of songs but none overstay their welcome. Some tracks do start to sound similar though.
Good but as background music
Cool album w/songs I've head but didn't know who sang them. 3
3.8 - A composed and stylish slab of Britpop that's more chic than quirky compared to other acts within their nucleus (e.g., Blur, Super Furry Animals). I like the angular guitar riffs and Justine Frischmann's cool vocal delivery. Besides "Connection", other standouts include "Line Up" and "Waking Up."
Perfectly fine to listen to but found it really boring in the most part... completely lacks any sort of energy. A generous 3. Oh and Sleeper > Elastica
Elastica's self titled debut sounds like the perfect backdrop to a teen movie or TV drama from the 90s. Full of pop punk vibes electric guitars and moody vocals this album is one to have on your radar, and from their sound I wouldn't have guessed that they're British! Best: Connection Worst: Never Here
For 90s it is may consider brave and groundbreaking, but after few dozens of years it's sounds iffy, but okay.
Nice to hear some female lead punk
Načelno nije loše ali isto malo previše pozeraja
I came around to it more in the second half, but I left this record feeling lukewarm towards it. I'm becoming concerned that I generally find 90s rock music kind of boring. Highlights: Blue, All-Nighter, Connection, Waking Up, Vaseline
A couple killer tracks imo (2:1 is legit af imho, also Connection and S.O.F.T.), overall though... Maybe a 3.5 with room to grow OR shrink? Part of me thinks this should be more up my alley, part of me just thinks I should be listening to Blur and/or Sleater Kinney and this is kinda blah besides the good stuff. Time will tell I guess. In any case, all that comes out to a 3* rating. Definitely listenable, ymmv.
Enjoyable alt rock, although unspectacular. Consistently good from front to back and potentially worth revisiting.
interesting sound, enjoyed Connection song.
3/5. Short and sweet brit pop songs that were definitely fun to listen to but didn't get a lot of substance from it. I'm sure I could enjoy this more if I wasn't subjected to 40 brit rock/pop albums already. It really needs to stand out and this one was punk and heavy, but not my vibe fully. I still do think this is at least a good album.
S'alright, yeah. Didn't do much for me but I have no criticisms.
Quite an easy band to listen to, even if Waking Up is a complete rip off from the Stanglers track No More Heroes, although that doesn't bother me as they created a good track. Found the album a very easy listen, lively and well good vocals. The main negative about the tracks.om this album would be the same riffs used across multiple tracks, which suggests they had limited creativity in their song writing.
She has a pleasant voice. Some catchy guitarwork
3.5/5 this was kind of interesting. I'll have to relisten!
6/10
Rips.
Catchy - Connections is good. Similar to Garbage
Super fun discovery of a band I didn’t know. Strong beats and grooves with lyrics that aren’t too angsty. Very accessible post punk.
Pretty good 👍
Grunge? Connections
Boppy punk. Good not great.
Was not interested, but it turned out to be better than my expectation.
Grunge or punk - not sure. But makes the mood brighter more fighting spirit.
Listened Before? N This one was pretty good. I have heard Connection before and liked it. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Connection
I liked this, but having just listened to “Dig Me Out” by Sleater-Kinney the day before, I couldn’t help but compare them - this album felt a bit generic in comparison. Not bad, but a little overlong. I did really enjoy listening to it while driving, so I dunno, I’m on the fence…I need to rethink my rating system, because although I’ve given them the same rating, I’d definitely rather listen to this than Norah Jones.
This was part of the cool art-alternative rock movement of Brit-Pop. I have no issues with it sounding like Wire or other late 70s/early 80s new wave bands. Fun, but not all of it works as well I believed in the mid 90s!
If a band made generic 90s rock music. Was just ok, maybe too battle-of-the-bands-y. 6/10.
Lekker straight up rocken
This was a decent post-punk album. It wasn’t the best album of its genre I’ve heard and it certainly wasn’t the worst. I found it very forgettable and had to listen to it again to get a better sense of it. I was able to hear the early Britpop sound though the album is much closer to post-punk
I went wanting to love this album. I mean the cover is sick. I liked it. Not great, but not bad. Ended up liking Never Here, S.O.F.T, Annie and connection. It was probably a couple notes off from being a 5.
this is really a tough album to rate because it’s mostly a 2 but there are some glimpses of 3 and even 4 in there. some blondie vibes every now and then get it to the 3 i think
Didn’t really like this much. Feel like a lot of it fell flat and generic.
First album so far that I haven't heard of before although Connection was familiar so it must have gotten air play at some point. Elastica has some Riot Grrrl going on mixed with some Brit Pop (not my jam). It was an okay enough listen but I don't see myself putting this on again. Highlights: Connection Stutter
I think this album is alright, and not too much more than that. Just has that general quick fix rock that makes it so no one song is bad, but no song especially sticks out too hard either. I do get why this is here, though. It starts really strong with the first song and has parts here and there that grabs you again for moments at a time, but overall it's just decent.
almost good but not really
pretty ok
some bangers!
Paramore before Paramore. I enjoyed a lot of this
Classic Britpop, which I remember from the time, it being everywhere. My ears pricked up at the Stranglers quote from 'Waking Up' - I note that it seems it was the Stranglers' publisher who sued rather than the band, and that they were actually happy with the interpretation and I would agree their views. I think Elastica took a great hook and did something new with it - that is pop!
Felt familiar but also unfamiliar. Also not terrible.
Wasn’t one straight listen through so was harder to get a gauge of the album as a whole but I enjoyed it, there was some more enjoyable songs than others but still a good listen.
I’ve owned this for years and only listened to it a few times. Which says a lot about how much I like it. Not bad but doesn’t really grab me.
Nog nooit van gehoord, luistert prima weg, maar niet bepaald essentieel of baanbrekend.
meee
The vocals and music could do with better balance. But I do like what I am hearing.
Pretty good
C'est tout à fait moyen
ne casse pas une patte à un poisson
Quite bland unfortunately, but enough there to keep you interested. Should be considered the bar to clear for 3 out of 5 albums. Regardless, if I have to listen to any more brit pop and post punk I'll fucking top myself
Great album to listen to
Perfectly serviceable.
Singles: ————————————————— Stutter (US Alt #10, UK #80) Line Up (UK #20) Connection (#17 UK, #2 Mod Rock USA) Waking Up (#13 UK) Car Song (#33 US ALT) Standouts: Connection, Stutter, Line Up, Car Song, Waking Up, 3/5
somewhere between a headliner and a foot note. ok pop'n roll.
Its quite boring 2.5
Probably have a better opinion of it than it deserves due to my lack of familiarly with its influences, so this sounds still fresh and new to me. Came off as a catchy, more Brit pop oriented style of what Tiger Trap did, which I adored, so this couldn’t be too awful. No individual song really stood out but all was enjoyable to listen to at the least.
I like most of the songs, but this record is not essential. They were followers, not leaders. Almost every song reminds me of an older song by someone else. But in a good way. Favorite song: Smile
Line Up, Connection, Car Song, S.O.F.T., Waking Up, Never Here. A few eh songs but otherwise I enjoyed it. 7/10
fun power pop
A lot of this feels like familiar ground for much of what came out in the 90s/00s. This doesn't feel hugely original, but its not bad either.
I'm a very casual fan of Cheap Trick but this live album really showcases what made them special. Super high energy and equal parts catchy and noisy. So many bops.
pretty catchy but not special
All-female, post-punk, rock band. Pretty great.
It was ok, I loved the connection but I've always loved the connection.
Classic 90's Alt feel. Catchy while still holding to the edgy attitude. Interesting stories behind the band.
Album sympathique, me semble avoir ouvert la voie à beaucoup de groupes à chanteuse comme les Beaches
A decent album, the middle was a drag but the beginning and end were pretty enjoyable. Nothing special though.
This is what happens when you mix pop, grunge and punk but don't have the press that bands like Garbage or The Breeders got. I hear a lot of The Pretenders here, although that just could be the lead vocalist.
A couple good songs, but a lot of okay ones too.
Not bad. Not great. Just pretty good. 6.5/10
A mi el de hoy es de los que me gustan…2:1 está en la BSO de Trainspotting(PSP)
I thought it was"Elastica" by Elastica is a very generic album that embodies the typical Britpop sound of its era. The only real standout track is "Connection", which features a catchy guitar riff and an infectious chorus. Overall, the album is okay for background music with a bit of energy, but it's not an album that I would actively seek out to listen to again. The music video for "Connection" captures the same level of energy and excitement as the rest of the album.
Apparently, I've received a lot of punk and post-punk albums here on the list these last few days. However, I'll not complain about it so soon since I discovered and rediscovered a lot of good bands and albums. This "Elastica" starts very well and declines at the end with a more "pop" mood that does not look connected with the album's first part, but it's still a lovely release for punk and post-punk fans. I'm not sure it deserves a spot on the 1001 list since it's somehow too much " standard, " but it definitely deserves a place in my ears.
It's a good post punk album and I liked listening to it. I tend to lean more towards grunge in the world of "Punk inspired genres", so I'm a little surprised how much I liked it.
This was once again ite
the shorter songs were best, some of these songs just kind of bored me when normally i enjoy this kind of music. barely gets a 3
That was fun. Not for me again though.
It’s fine.
Aika hyvä indie! Mutta en ihastunut. Ehkä vois parin kuuntelun jälkeen - mutta pelkään myös, että herkästi jää keskinkertaiseksi.
pretty good
Opens strong but overall a pretty forgettable album
Hey, a Britpop album I actually enjoyed. I've always loved "Connection," but I'm not sure I can give this a 4. Let's call it a 3.5.
meio punkzinho mas não empolgante
Short punk songs that take cues from Blondie (the melodies and hooks are just as important as the volume of the guitars). A lot of the vocals have that bored, disaffected tone that's in vogue with some indie bands now (Wet Leg and Dry Cleaning are two that come to mind). Cool to hear a band from the 90's doing it. I'm sure there were even others who did it before Elastica. They have some range too. I was surprised to hear the psychedelic vibes of "Indian Song."
Electric, somehow the Band Name is fitting well for me.
Listens: 3 Enjoyed: yeah sort of Something screams warm up act to me but the type that makes you keep paying for the main act just to see them. I can't even state what was particularly appealing but there was something pullin me back
Underrated indie grunge album.
Average
Did not know them so far. Nice Indie Rock, but a little bit too predictable. It is ok, by not a favorite.
Great 90s vibes
This album is Primus but less psycho. Quite nice. Hard for me personally to LOVE anything, however it is a nice listen.
3.4/5 pleasant but nothing special
Pas mal du tout, des bangers, du bon post punk. Mais rien de groundbreaking ou de particulièrement marquant. Clairement un biais UK.
Good female rock album enjoyed this
There's a couple solid riffs on this album, but it's mostly unmemorable, and I can't help but wonder if it's in part because of the production, which softens and muffles everything. This is an album that would benefit from sharp edges and crunchy textures, but there's this gentle reverb on everything that mushes everything together. It feels like they tried to hard to make it radio palatable and by doing so, made it sound like something that wouldn't stand out on the radio.
Very nice instrumentals... Was not a powerful vocal presentation.
solid rock album. female vocals rule. some dank leas lines and meanderings. feels like a punk album for the 90s. its like less cool sleater kinney or something. but that makes it cooler than a lot of other garbsge 90s shit? im glad i listened to them shout at me a bit. thanks!
outdated but still intrigues
Definitely punky, but not too aggressive
Meh
Ah, 1995, the year I didn't listen to new music anymore.
Not bad, not great.. nothing really stood out to me, but no complaints!
Made me incredibly nostalgic. Loved "Connection".
1995. Connection, Waking Up
What Elastica does well is brevity. There are some absolutely banging tunes on this album. But just when you’ve got your teeth into one it ends abruptly. I found myself yearning for at least one more chorus. I don’t know if it’s irony or commentary when Connection finishes after two and a bit minutes. Is it a treatise on the brief life we have or the need to make instant connections? I’m not convinced they’re that deep. But that song has now become iconic and features in at least one advertising campaign every year. So that ‘connection’ has endured, although the lifespan of the band was short. They made two albums and Justine remarked that it was one album too long. Paraphrasing obviously! But you can’t deny the energy and bounce of this album. It’s Joyous Britpop for Tigger - Winnie the Pooh’s springy friend - but it does make me crave a song with a couple more minutes to bop along.
Girl fronted punk band. Very kewl. I like this album and would listen to it again. By the late '90s this sound is nothing new. The band created two albums in their 9 years of existence. As much as I like this album, it doesn't stand out as a must listen to before I die qualifier. I'd love to be in a band like this and glad I was introduced to the group but it doesn't need to be here.
I was familiar with the song Connection and am happy that the rest of the album is as enjoyable.
"She's got her keys, money, and fags" Can't say I know Elastica though the songs sound a bit familiar. Until embarking on this 1001 endeavor, I didn't realize how much I enjoy mid-90s new wavish style tunes. What musical conventions did they tap into to make "Indian song" have a gentle Indian vibe behind the driving rock? I didn't hear any sitar but I certainly felt the south asian influence. Tablas? I will definitely explore more Elastica. And I'm happy I listened to this album before I died.
I have come to the conclusion that I like music that has a pulse. And not just the drowsy thup......thup......that comes with a food coma. No, I like someting more like the heart pounding that comes from a pack of skeletal zombie wolves chasing you through the forest while the only door to your safety slowly closes in the distance. Although not nearly that frenetic throughout, this album does have a pulse. Never heard it before but I liked it
Seems cool
Here we have a rarity in Britpop-a group mostly comprised of women! Elastica has plenty of punch and vivacity, but the songs sound a bit too similar to other groups of that time.
3.75
Great listen. A nice cohesive album that anyone could listen to and enjoy
Very easy to get into. I liked it right from the start. Love to hear more of it. 3.5/5
Music that inspired Lindsay Logan’s character in Freaky Friday.
My mind wasn't blown, but it also wasn't blunted.
3.5
The music was okay but couldn’t hear the lyrics.
I had never heard of Elastica before today. I would compare them to the girl alternative rock/punk groups such as Garbage or Paramore. Not a bad sound, but nothing really set them apart from the loads of other bands just like them from that era. Was a good listen, but not something I would throw in heavy rotation to listen to again. Favourite songs: Stutter, Annie, Never Here, Blue, S.O.F.T., Least favourite songs : 2:1, Car Song, Indian Song, Line Up, 3/5
Exactly my type of music. Enjoyed listening to this album because of the genre and style, but nothing really stood out to me as special either. Favorite track: Never Here
2.5 stars. Wasn't super into it but not bad
Thick-skinned, spiky and sexy, plus a hit that serves as a template for The Strokes et al half a decade later.
Beginning track had some very weird grunting. There still hidden gems in this very heavy tracked ablum
Rich kids play Britpop. Some ear worms admittedly
I liked the more poppy songs with a hook. Fun blur/dandy warhol vibes. But gets a bit single note at times.
Heard before: no Solid, but didn’t grab me.
I thought it was a bit Transvision Vamp, and a bit Adam Ant in places, and although the band has got a big following, and respect to them, the album didn't do it for me. I couldn't see the reason why it should be included in the 1001 best, which might be more my failing than theirs.
More Brit-alternative than Brit-pop, but I remember hearing this a lot back in the 90s and always enjoyed their music. On relisten, it's still good. 3.5/5.
Way more Brit pop than I expected. Woo
Some good memories here from my Britpop clubbing days, not a bad listen.
Indian Song: nicely layered Vaseline: catchy There seems to be a tiny bit of similarity to the freedom of the David Bowie album I just listened to and this one, 20 years later. I really would like to listen to these albums in sequence, with somebody curating the list to make the most of the influence felt by previous albums.
I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this album as much as I did ! It was good. 3*
Vibrant 90's sound. Pleasant brit rock/pop with a cool image. I'm liking a lot of the sounds on this album tbh so it's one for me.
Singing on this album is pretty good Some tracks are just okay The track "See That Animal" is amazing The second half of this album is definitely better than the first 6/10
Really similar to Wire, which is not bad. I didn't like that much on my first listening, but the quick songs and the nostalgic 90's feeling made me appreciate the album more. 6.5/10 Favorite tracks: Car Song, Smile, Vaseline
Pretty average garage-post-punky-brit-rocky album. It has attitude, but not too much - kinda repetitive and not very imaginative. 5/10.
Nah
Another classic my sister used to play a lot
Not bad
Fun!
This entire album belongs in a Tony Hawk soundtrack. 3.5
Good, but not stand out.
Some nice hooks, but the singer isn't that great and it really doesn't stand out in any way
Rock
Enjoyed this, more so on the second listen this morning than my first yesterday. Hadn't heard of them before really, but do remember Connection. It's a good sound, and keeps the quality pretty high all the way through, although was a bit samey bar a couple of tracks. 3/5, not miles off a four.
At times it sounds ahead of its time, predicting the sounds of acts like Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes years later, albeit with more of a punk edge. On the other hand, there are also tracks that sound very of their time, like “Connection” (not necessarily a complaint; that’s probably the best song on the record). Overall I like it, don’t love it.
Great hit. Rest ok
Above average grrrlrock, so I’m Rounding up to a three.
boring brit grungy post punk. Better than a lot of post punk, but just really not for me. 2.5 and the 3 feels generous.
A high 3
kind of a one hit wonder but a fun pop-punk album nonetheless.
s'ok, but just OK 90's britpop much of a muchness in my opinion. if I had to pick a track it would probably be "Vaseline" which has a bit of Chutzpah as far as I am concerned.
Solid!
I like this…:) Enjoyable if quintessentially average
Meh.
Decent enough but nothing really stands out. At least all of the songs are short?
Waking Up is my jam tho.
It was fine
Pleasant. That’s about it.
Not bad. "Connection" and "Car Song" are pretty unique compared to the rest that all sound very much the same.
Elastica's debut is a epitome of the new wave, picking up every single good reference of the style and putting it together to create fast and relatively small tracks that are very rocky, but also very melodic. Unfortunetely, as a new wave record, it arrived to late and, sometimes, it feels out of place and time - but "Connection" and "Waking Up" are great songs.
Some punk and noise rock elements decorating the pop. Decent but no real standouts.
Classic
Not the best of the 90s, but it’s still 90s so you can’t go too wrong.
Cool album, Great melodies and sounds. Definetly anorher listen
3/5 I weirdly liked it, didn’t pay much attention to the lyrics more the music, but from a 90s Brit rock band I quite liked
3.5
good band. no more comments :-)
britpop meets riot grrl meets pop punk. honestly, decent. 6/10
5/10. Meh, could've been a lot worse
A grower...more familiar than expected
I liked it but thought I'd like it more. It might be the height of 90s cool but the songs are inconsistent - all are fine, some are good, only a couple are great. Waking Up is a tune though and I fully endorse the sentiment: not easy, never has been.
Some good thonking bass throughout this album. I prefer when they lean more into the poppy side of punk. Stutter and Connection are standouts
Haven't heard much post punk kind of stuff from the 90s. I enjoyed it well enough.
This is the debut album from English alt rock band Elastica. It released to positive critical reviews noting the "rocking and melodic" nature and the large amount of good music present on the album. Some songs sounded like instant classics and this album did a good job of laying the blueprint for what Britpop should sound like. The album hit number one in the UK in record time, becoming the fastest selling debut album since a different album the year before. At the end of 1995, the album already sold 1 million copies and was certified gold in the US. I loved the music on this album and will have to check out more from the band. This group was ahead of the curve when it came to alt rock / punk rock music, and I believe that's what made this album so popular.
3,5; nice rock-pop album, great instrumentals, not too long, I enjoyed it
Cool album
When Elastica were being hyped as the "Next Big Thing" in the 90s, I thought they were lightweight, derivative and unremarkable. Now, at a distance of more than 25 years, this does sound more substantial and powerful than I perceived at the time.
Started off strong and faded fast. The back half of the album is basically a 20-minute long song chopped up into tiny tracks. Best track: Line Up
Good album
It was a good album with no songs I remember
Mittelgut
Coffee table version of The Stranglers
Helt ok album, waking up bra sang
Inconsistent quality, some songs are boring, and some are quite enjoyable. And even the better songs aren't very interesting; they have a pretty standard sound.
There are a couple of favorites on this one, but I like every song here. I can't believe I've never given this one a full listen. This is good stuff.
Solid 90’s grunge
Came in thinking this would be a crappy 90s era electronic album for some reason. Was surprised to find it was a lot more than that
The album is nonetheless one of the most effective indictments of the year, thanks to a fascinating set of punky but not too pretty songs that reinterpret the history of rock music. (6/10) FT: Waking Up, Connection, 2:1
Not bad
Definitely felt like a standout few songs. Not my fave--made me want to listen to Garbage though.
Pretty good, but very 'Blur' - all discordant jerky guitar riffs. Justine was Damon's girlfriend at the time - I wonder who was influencing whom?
I'm digging it, but I'm not flipping for it. They didn't reinvent the wheel, it's fine for what it is.
Nothing really stood out. Maybe need to read up on this.
some great songs on this album
Amazing guitar tone and a good rock album. Just nothing spectacular.
Decent alternative rock that fails to be more than average
Pretty good. NOthing special though
Apparently I’m a fan of British pop punk. I’m also a sucker for female punk singers - they’re somehow more punk. This album has some classic-sounding punk guitar tones and that real “throaty” bass. Solid album. I’m stuck between a 3 and a 4. Not sure it’s quite a 4, so 3.5?
Both better than I remember and yet it still sounds very mid-90s. Much better albums from the period.
I enjoyed this one, which would have been good for a fast drive, I think. It was a pleasant surprise to recognize Connection from its use in Ted Lasso. I also especially liked Waking Up, Stutter, and Never Here. I'll give it at 3.5.
I want to give this a 4, but I need to listen a little more. Still, pretty solid post punk. Some songs really stood out to me.
Nice, I guess, and not particularly special
Couple of indie classics but overplayed a few and the others have never popped through
Nice rock stuff yes good

Fun
Connaissait pas mais ce n’est pas mauvais. Cela ne m’a pas vraiment inspire non plus mais du bon brit pop. 3.5
Some good tunes and I tapped my toes a few times. Nothing too memorable though.
Classic 90's Brit-pop. Wish the full album were available in Spotify.
Rating: 6/10 Best songs: See that animal
good!
It's all pretty good, solid enjoyable album. Kinda an gritty rock version of Garbage. I didn't find a lot of standouts however, no tracks that i would have to listen to again.
its okay
Ending up liking this more than I thought I would. Very Daria feeling sound.
Quite enjoyable listen, got better towards the end. High 3.
Okay. Like Oasis
Loved the bass tone throughout this. Shocked that I hadn't heard of them, quite impressive 90's pop punk. I thought some of the vocal lines had a bit of a Damon Albarn/Gorillaz vibe, and funny enough he played synths on this. Some quite strong tracks and overall an enjoyable listen.
I like the pop punk sound. It reminded me of Courtney Barnett, and the harmonies reminded me of The Beths. I felt like they are trying to appear harder than they actually are. Enjoyable, and a liked the change of pace from modern pop music.
Didn't love it, didn't hate it. It had some good moments but I don't think it's one you need to listen to all the way through
Pretty cool
Better after the first 2 songs
Not really memorable at all. Definitely has a 90s vibe.
Is ok, sounds like most rock from then?
Unlike the best of their Britpop contemporaries, Elastica never feel like more than the sum of their influences. Still a decent listen, but even at a relatively brisk 37 minutes it feels padded. The singles are all bangers though.
Brit pop, generally good. Some upbeat syncopated songs
Really enjoyed this actually.
Not bad. 7.2/10
Poppy and grungy. All right.
Feel like something I would enjoy live.. Simple and enjoyable for me.. Recording, production and finishing are the things that this album doesn't score higher, but I believe it is the purpose of the band, simple rock. Nothing wrong with it, But I will score as average to be fair with other bands too - 3 stars
Not 4 me but cool y’all
Post punk
Their sound is reminiscent of New Wave / punk sound from the early 80s like early Devo, B52s, Runaways, Banchees, etc. The energy level is as high asThe Ramones (with lobotomies). Nobody's energy is as high as the Brothers R.
No strong feels about this album. Perfectly fine alt rock. songs kind of blended together for me, but there's lots of additions for your indie-sounding playlist here.
New band to me. Good, energetic, tight sound.
Knew a couple of the songs, but don't feel like I've ever heard of this band... liked it
'Line Up' had a very fun 'White Stripes' sound. The general punk feeling is enjoyable.
Is it an amazing album? No, but it has some good songs and actually a lot more than I would have cited from memory. Like 5 songs that I had some previous memory of, including the one from the Trainspotting soundtrack.
Decent
After listening to what I thought was a cover of No More Heroes I wasn't surprised to read that the Stranglers successfully sued them. I like the edgy, electro punk sound - nice riffs. If this had come out 10 years earlier it would have been more on-target.
Pop-rock ochentero.
I mean it was fine but why did I need to listen to it
I love the vibe, and the production. But there is undeniably a lot of filler. Would have been a great 10 track 25-minute album.
On a scale it balances well with good music, and perhaps influenced a few bands in the late 90s/early 00s. Pretty good, but a bit same-same toward the end, all of which could’ve been shorter
15 canciones en 38 minutos. Brit Pop y un poco de Grunge = espíritu de los 90. Dos grandes singles para esa época. Line Up y Connection son muy buenas, el resto en general bastante bien. Una pena que no llegaran a más.
I liked this record! I hadn't heard of them.
Semibängeri
Hat sich gut angehört, auch wenn nicht alles verfügbar war. 3
not my favorite brit rock band, but had some good songs on this album.
A solid 90's punk/grunge album. I remember hearing "Connection" as ton as a kid but can't say I've heard much else. At 15 tracks it's a bit of a long listen but it's solid.
very 90s
A good mix of new wave and grunge.
Otro 3 clavado. (para mí sí fue descubrimiento)
Short and sweet punk rock. It's nice but not amazing for me. I like their aesthetic though! Fav track: 2:1, nice vibes on this one.
Didn't get much out of this kind of middle of the road alt rock. Connection would be my highlight though.
Not sure how to box this one, but it was a cool album
Very 90s punk, decent lead singer, easily comparable to Gwen, whiny spoken vocal parts.
It was good to speed up my yesterday for an hour, fun lively stuff. But will not give it a second chance.
