The Clash
3/5
Fun album, always viewed them as a Punk band but there sound spans many different influences and are more than just that. Some great Reggae and Ska sound as well as the classic songs I remembered off this album.
The xx
3/5
A album that really is a complete piece of artistic expression. Each song blends into the next. Should be listened to start to finish. Has a great atmosphere to it with its minimalism.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet
5/5
Perfect Jazz album, can listen on repeat for hours. Groove is bouncy and fun, everyone's a master of their instrument. As a drummer I appreciate the extended drum solo centerpiece in there. The use of different time signstures is great. Feels every listen I hear something new in the rythms and notes that makes me appreciate it more. Take 5/5
Steely Dan
3/5
Album fuses a lot of genres together in creative ways. Nice groovy album with some classic "best of" examples from the band.
The Flaming Lips
2/5
I can appreciate the concept they went with. It's very much a story they are telling. It's a high art piece that lost me along the way somewhere. A little too far out and experimental. Some interesting songs in here though.
Miles Davis
5/5
Great album. Miles Davis is a Jazz Icon. Love the album. Putting on of his albums on and comparing to other Jazz you can see why he stands out. Can listen to it all day.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
3/5
Great all around album, never listened to him before but was surprised by all the different influences that went in to it l. Almost gospel at times.
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Soul II Soul
2/5
A fan of this era of music, very nostalgic. But something makes me feel there's a reason I don't listen as much to this era of music anymore and just like to revisit it from time to time.
Björk
1/5
The concept of jurassic park has scientists, geniuses in their respective fields, create something in defiance of nature. A huge feat and worthy of praise. Bjork has always seemed an artist's artist. Genius in her field, worthy of praise. As a normal Joe though I am left wondering the JP quote "did you ever think you should" make this album. A-capella as a choice is impressive but felt like it died years ago for a reason.
Fela Kuti
4/5
Pixies
3/5
Another album that shows how much a band took influences from before it and did something new with those sounds. What they did went on to influence many bands after. A kind of vector of music influence.
Neil Young
3/5
Ananda Shankar
2/5
The Beta Band
2/5
A good mix of styles presented in a new way. Easy listening.
Foo Fighters
4/5
Not often a album starts a new era in music. Great all around album. More impressive considering Grohl made it by himself without expecting it to be released.
The Doors
4/5
Randy Newman
1/5
He may have his fans and he has his unique way of writing songs. I just don't see how he's on a list for the best of all time. There's got to be a better and more influential album than this to take the slot. Plus his attempt at a satirical ironic take on racism with upbeat lyrics in redneck just comes off as nails on a chalkboard for me. An attempt was made but don't like it.
Mariah Carey
2/5
Stan Getz
5/5
Quite literally has one of my favorite songs of all time on it. Lighting strike of an album. Took the world by storm.
Norah Jones
2/5
Seemed like it was a pivotal album of the era. Seems like every decade a great singer songwriter brings the bluesy folk sound back.
Fleet Foxes
2/5
Can see how influential to the indie folk scene it was. Album itself doesnt seem to have a lot of variation to its sound.
Gram Parsons
1/5
Not sure my ear can pick out what makes this one of the best albums of all time. It's a decent country album with great harmonies by Emmylou Harris. It's all I hear and unsure why it's on the list of 1001.
Wilco
2/5
4/5
Bowie did a lot to expand on rock in the era he was active. Continued to influence everyone after as well.
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Solid album with the exception of big time.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
A lot more varied in its sound than I imagined it be. A decent representation of a lot of different styles from the 90s. Great album to showcase this era.
Big Star
3/5
Not what I expected. Interesting amount of emotions in a late 70s rock album. Would not be surprised if this went on to influence the goth movement in the 80s.
Elastica
2/5
Seems like a decent enough album. But besides a few hits don't know what album it booted off the list. Don't see how it might be any more influential than another similar record.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
Always forget the part the rolling stones played in that early rock n roll era as a British Invasion band. Lot more sexual than say, the Beatles were around the same time. Kept playing for a lot longer together too. Epic band
Daft Punk
5/5
Daft Punk is the standard for all modern edm music. They elevated edm to a higher standing with what could be done with sampling and music production. Their love of disco and European discotheque culture made others pay attention and appreciate it more through their use of it. If their was only one Edm album on this list, it would be this one.
David Bowie
5/5
Reading about this album made me appreciate it so much more. What he did to Fuze together his musical styles with r&b and soul created a album that's at the top of his already stacked discography.
Public Image Ltd.
2/5
Can see why it may be influential but experimental doesn't make for easy listening.
Supergrass
1/5
Can see why it may be influential but can't help wonder what didn't make the list to make room for this album
G. Love & Special Sauce
3/5
Represents an interesting time in the 90s. Liked it more after listening to it for a bit definitely grew on me.
B.B. King
5/5
Any live album I feel has an edge over any other because all music should be heard live. Studio albums are the new invention while live music has been the norm for majority of human existence. For B.B. King to be one of the best blues artists and then be able to perfectly capture the feel and experience of his live performance makes this a perfect album. It is a perfect album.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Great album, most of these are just their greatest hits. Always been a big fan of the band. Can't rate unbiased because of how I grew up with this music, reminds me of singing in the car going fishing with dad.
The Mamas & The Papas
5/5
Perfect album. Great musicality and harmonies. Varied influences in their songs. Can listen to whole thing each song is a hit.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
I don't have quite the ear to review the album proper but I did like it a lot. One thing I noticed was how modern it sounded. My idea of hip hop and rap at this time sounded different. It dates itself here and there with lyrics about pagers etc but it sounds ahead of its time and I like that a lot.
1/5
Pretenders
3/5
George Harrison
4/5
Great album, experimental, George had an interesting approach to music and it shows with his incorporations of sounds and themes. His use of his spiritualism.
Arcade Fire
2/5
OK album
The Fall
2/5
Stereo MC's
2/5
Pretty nice sounding album. Groovy. Overall though how it was on the list I wonder. It took a space from someone else.
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
Wu tang forever...
3/5
It's a pretty pivotal album for the time. Wonderwall has been played to death. It's a pretty decent sounding album altogether though and a fun listen.
Big Star
3/5
Mylo
2/5
Good album. Decent album to relax to. Feel like there are better options to represent the genre out there though.
Michael Kiwanuka
3/5
Good album. Great combination of sounds.
Crosby, Stills & Nash
5/5
The lyricism, harmonies, and musical ability if these 3 guys made them one if the best bands of the era. They're practically a super group. This album has some if their best songs balancing fun (marakesh) with some deeper meaning thoughtful songs (wooden ships). Great album.
Metallica
5/5
Was one of my intros into metal, changed how I thought music could be. Left a lasting impression and have been chasing that heavy sound ever since.

4/5

1/5

Eric Clapton
5/5
ZZ Top
5/5
De La Soul
5/5
I dont have long history with Rap and Hip Hop but was told this was a great album and so finally listening to it I can see why it is considered a classic. Has some great lyrics, mixed well, all around great album.
Prince
5/5
Elbow
2/5
Seems like the stomp and clap kind of indie album. Better than others I have heard but not enough to convert me totally.
The Cure
5/5
Pivotal album the the goth rock era. Can't say it without this album being mentioned in the same sentence. Music is dark, sad, and the lyrics are pained. This is the soundtrack to depression but in a way that's great, shows there are others who feel what you do and you are not alone. This album saved people.
Nirvana
5/5
I mean it's one of the pivotal albums of grunge. It helped ignite a movement.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
5/5
One of the best albums of the era, favorite in my house growing up
Simply Red
2/5
A good Pop sound. The songs tend to come off as samey to me after awhile. Generic but good.
