Reviews (page 14 of 14)

I really don’t like this album

Blister In The Sun is ok, not a fan of the rest.

Do one

Not listened yet

Recognized 1st song, really the only one worth it

1 - suht putsis värk

Not my cup of tea.

awful. Painfully grating voice

So are we going to be forced to listen to full albums just because they feature a single one-hit-wonder? God awful music made by from what I can gather are incels.

Not expecting to like this much. "Blister In The Sun" always struck me as a song that got radio play for its weirdness more than its tunefulness -- which with many other albums has been a tick in the plus column. Not sure it is for me this time. I love Daniel Johnston, Pavement, Tom Waits - all the weird, wacky, idiosyncratic, messy artists, but at some point the rubber meets the road and music should ultimately be something you want to listen to again and again. And on that basis, this album has overwhelmingly earned its one star, because I don't have the slightest desire to ever hear this again. I did genuinely enjoy "Prove My Love," however. Hated it. Glad I listened.

Not something I would want to listen to during a colonoscopy.

Jittery. Neurotic. Darkly comical. And that’s how the description of the band begins on Spotify. Might I add - can’t sing? It opens with a familiar song, Blister in the sun. Starts out good, but never did like his singing. After that - just a no from me.

This album was grating. Couldn’t listen to all of it

Some cool basslines but terrible vocals and lyrics. Too many people trying to solo at the same time leading to chaos

I don't like this

Sounds like a garage band. Not much talent in this group

Not my style.

Nope. Frenetic hillbilly punk, no thank you. Never liked Gano’s voice and it's not improved with time. Zero adds to the playlist. Sorry Wisconsin, but you can keep them.

Not a fan

Awful! Very vulgar and whiney! Would give negative one

Way too punk for this old bird.

Awful piece of turd.

Annoying voice. Annoying music.

1 Star, really weird for my ear.

uh. lyrics and beat is uncreative. might be a bit cringe

Kanker

The vocals sound like a bad version of Bob Dylan, the music sounds lazy and the lyrics are kinda shit

I don’t get the Violent Femmes. One of my least favorite groups ever. Never again.

Considering the familiar “Blister In The Sun” starts off the album, I wondered if the Violent Femmes would have other recognizable tunes. After listening to a few more tracks I deduced that they were just another eighties one hit wonder. “Please Do Not Go” is a plea to the listener as much as anything, and the irritating “Add It Up” is actually a minus. I can appreciate how the Violent Femmes may have influenced other alternative bands of the eighties and nineties; Blind Melon (and their hit classic “No Rain”) is a good example. However, I just find the vocals too annoying to enjoy the album.

Something about the singers voice/singing style that just deeply annoyed me and made my toenails roll up. Super annoying, drunk yelling singing style that I just was not in the mood for, awful

Did not enjoy

From the opening track "Blister in the Sun," which features a acoustic guitar riff and frontman Gordon Gano's unmistakable and odd vocals. The vocal delivery is a problem to me all thr way up to the closing track "Good Feeling," which comes with some powerful energy but falls due to the vocal performance. What makes Violent Femmes stand out from other albums of the time is the raw, unpolished nature of the recording. The songs are simple and straightforward, with minimal production and a focus on the band's dynamic interplay. The lyrics are brutally honest and relatable, covering themes of love, sex, angst, and alienation with a dark humor that is both cutting and endearing but gets pretty repetitive after a few tracks. Overall, Violent Femmes is not an album that I will be revisiting due to the off-putting vocals and the repetitive themes. Not a good album and I can’t justify anything else but a 1 star here.

Annoying.

bem fraco. não gostei da sonoridade, todas músicas pareciam a mesma, meio folk? não gostei do álbum.

Not good

To its credit, I could see how this album was influential. Seems to straddle the lines of genres.. much like how the lyrics straddle the line between acceptable and rapey. I feel like Bill Cosby listened to a couple of these songs and got some ideas. If the vocals on your album sound like I do when I sing, it’s usually not a great sign. Which is the case here. I get that it’s a particular “sound” and “feel” they’re going for. But i’m not super keen on this album, I wish it would just be Gone, Daddy, Gone. And if you Add It Up, it’s around a 1.6. But it doesn’t allow me to give that, so….fuck em

Thoroughly unenjoyable

weird in a bad way

Very, very rough, and outside of the lead track surprisingly un-fun and low energy. Their singer is horrible. The usual punk rock playbook is to cover up for lack of ability with manic energy and winking mockery (self + otherwise). They really don't have either - it's just slow, sad, and low-quality. Contrast this with "Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables", which came out around the same time and is also not going to make anyone forget Ludwig van Beethoven. There's barely a track on there clocking over 3 minutes or under 180 bpm, and Jello is at times downright funny. Violent Femmes fall way wide of that mark.

LOL.... no.

Lyrics are bad and vocals are like nails on a chalkboard.

what the fuck

Hier zullen vast liefhebbers voor zijn, maar als je zo zingt win je mijn hart niet 😉

Annoying as hell

Didn't like it at all.

Amateur hour.

A highly irritating album. Mostly because of the vocalist. Twangy guitar, terrible bass sound and no hooks/catchy phrases that ever stood out. No thank you.

Apart from "Blister", this is weak poor music. Not actually bad music, just completely mediocre and weak post-punk. Not sure why it's on the list. Disappointing.

So not my thing

sorry but this music makes my heart hurt.....

Gonna have to pass, even the Crazy cover wasn’t doing it for me.

Wasn’t a fan

What a load of crap

blister in the sun was good, went downhill from there; not really an album for me

Drunk Beatles & Creedence Cover-Band

Average

Oddly familiar
