Reviews (page 13 of 14)

Spoiler alert: there is no actual femmes. I spent like 5 minutes malding about it. Funny incel music, Gimme the Car was especially amusing. Didn't like it sonically though

very weird but the kind of weird that I can enjoy because its weird and not weird and bad and why is a group of 4 dudes calling themselves Violent Femmes

I've been a fan of some of the tracks here, but never listened to the whole thing. Some of the other tracks aren't my style, they can be a bit jarring to me.

Unikt sound men inte riktigt min grej.

Oh. Oh no. I should like this. Tons of energy, basslines that are very forward in the mix. The vocals though. I just can't... I find it actively annoying. And why did one of the tracks have what sounded like a 10 year old with a xylophone?

Rasittavaa, semmoista vähän noise rockin tapaista kaoottista ja sitten narisevia vokaaleja. Blister In The Sun kuitenkin oli vähän tuttu. Parhaat: Blister In The Sun

Yea it’s ok I guess

Started off musically great but I don’t know… juvenile… bad singing… I didn’t care.

Started well with blister in the sun, then downhill the rest of the way

Not a big fan of this album. Only a few songs I liked.

Didn't listen to all of it

I thought I liked the Violent Femmes but this album was just okay and one song I found offensive.

I know people who love this album. I couldn’t really find anything to latch onto though. Not creative enough to hold me. Guess just not my cup of tea.

Other than Blister in the sun, it wasn't very memorable

It is an instinctive reflex to clap or drum those 4 notes in the first song. Rest of the album isn't great. Some cool basslines, but other than that it is a boring, droning album. I can't tell if I'm in a bad mood, but I have been giving a lot of 2s and 3s lately.

WOAH did not expect Blister in the Sun to be on this. I never knew who that song was by. Unfortunately that was the highlight of this album and after that it was pretty underwhelming music that got quite boring.

I was unaware that this band sang Blister In The Sun, and Gone Daddy Gone. I was convinced those songs were within the last 20 years. Not in the last 40 years. This band, or at least this album, sounds like some relevant music today. In fact, I am certain this album was the inspiration behind the resurgence of this sound in the early 2010's with the influx of the "the" bands (The Hives, The Vines, The Strokes.... Etc) The Led Zeppelins? - - anyone see that Sum 41 skit with Will Sasso. It was pretty funny? Anyways... This has post punk, Indy, alternative feel to it. NOT MY STYLE. I don't really care for much things punk. But this record was alright. A bunch of forgettable songs, the aforementioned two songs that I was unaware of were great. But aside from that... Mediocre music. No need to relisten to this.

🎶 🎸 Like a blister on the sun 🌞 ok ok I dig it Rest of album , meh

That's not my taste in musik.

Rommelig, en eigenlijk is alleen Blister in the Sun leuk

Classic noise

Not for me.

Never really got why "Blister in the Sun" was so popular. A whole album of it did not help my understanding.

Better than I thought it would be

Interesting but I wouldn’t listen to it on a regular basis. I understand that in 1983 it could have been refreshing.

Wow I thought this was going to be good until he opened his mouth. He sounds like all he is doing is whining and got really old really fast. Also very repetitive

Akustischer Alternative Rock der 80er. „Blister in the Sun” ist bekannt.

We all came to hear Blister In the Sun.........

Sad and angsty. The vocals just aren’t for me. The repetitive words/phrases made me chuckle a few times.

I must’ve listened to Blister In The Sun a hundred times in indie clubs through my University days without knowing what it was called or who it was by. So I was immediately grateful for that discovery. The remaining half hour or so was unremarkable. The sound doesn’t deviate much from track to track although the acoustic bass is fun and I had a few chuckles at the lyrics. Can’t see myself coming back to this one, and not sure I really get why it makes the list. I guess you had to be there. 4/1001

This feels like David Bowie for babies. It's fine but not spectacular.

Thought it would be good based on Blister In The Sun, but the rest is just a dreary carbon copy. Dull.

I’m pretty sure I don’t like this. Pretty sure, because so many of the songs are catchy in a weird way, despite the fact that the lyrics make no sense and Gano’s voice annoys me. Musically, the songs are fun; the arrangements are interesting, and I particularly enjoy the way the acoustic bass is used. Was this interesting to listen to? Yes. Will I listen to it again? No.

Same guitar sound... everywhere

Has some redeeming features (Gone Daddy Gone) but hard to get through at times.

Blister in the Sun is from the EARLY EIGHTIES??? Not big on the guy's voice overall.

I really liked the music, but the lyrics give me huge "angry incel" vibes. Disappointing, because I love the song Blister in the Sun.

1:heard this before, ehh 4/10 2:i get the vibe, i like it more 3:softer, lots of beats 4/10 but in a different way maybe 3 4:jammy, yea 5:not bad 6:ok 7:alright 8:bass 9:wehh 10:slow, quite nice acually 11:dont like 12:im done ...

Really dislike the lead vocalist. Music was pretty good.

Blister in the sun

This spunded like alternative pop, but i really cpuldnt get into it.

Nije mi zapelo za uho.

Not great, even by 80s standards.

Some bangers - but not my cup of tea.

That's no singing...

Nice energy, but it all feels very messy. Bass sounds quite aggressive and definitely contributes to the messy sound. Also the out of key/monotone singing did bother me a lot.

Adolescent frustration. Am I too old for that? I might be.

1/? of albums i've heard the one hit wonder and haven't heard any others. i don't absolutely hate it but i don't think it's something i would ever choose to listen to on my own. it's kind of like if male manipulator music was just your brother and cousin and their friends in your garage. the original "midwest emo" blueprint. this is music that probably sounds better and also worse live. like live the quality would be way worse but it would sound intentional. yeah dial up male manipulator music to 11. I like male manipulator music though as long as it's not actually accompanied by male manipulation the leads speaking voice sounds a little bit like Gerard way. or maybe it's the cadence or something this sounds like stuff that if I knew the band members personally, I'd be like "guys this is really good I like it!!" and not be lying but my personal affection for them would be warping my perception. as it is. it's. okay. blister in the sun is fine. there's a few songs where I like the progression or the chorus but then the whine-sing of the verse puts me off. lol.

Too drugged out to actually play well, mostly. Some fun lyrics.

It was alright. 2 really good songs

Other than the 1st song just plain boring

Im not into it

Just not my style.

Didn't know this was the "blister in the sun" band. One hit wonder question mark

Lo-fi naive garage rock, somewhat enjoyable but not for me.

Very popular when I was a British exchange student at UW Stout in 1984, although at the time I leaned more towards the punkier local bands like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements. Nevertheless I bought this record and I still have it. It’s testament to how little I’ve played it that it’s still pretty near mint. I still find its nerdy American gothic schtick a little bit fake. Nevertheless I enjoyed giving it another listen.

This guys voice is very annoying 2 stars

Party tunes

Folk-punk. Starts well, the guitar and acoustic bass sound is really interesting and catchy, but it all goes downhill very fast when the vocals arrive. Overtones of Lou Reed, but in a bad way.

rather emo

Me da vibes de que eran un grupo de amigos pasandolo bomba

a disappointment, honestly. i only knew blister going in, and i only want to know blister coming out. some solid instrumentation keeps this from the basement, but i just couldnt get over how bad the vocals were

I tried. Really I did. Enjoyed Blister in the Sun (big Grosse Pointe Blank fan), but the rest went a little far for me. I’m struggling to imagine where it would be listened to. It’s too hard for me.

I thought it was good ish but nothing was great. It probably would’ve been even better if it were only instrumentals

Pretty strange. Was not expecting an incel ballad in Add It Up. I'll give it two stars for Blister in the Sun and Gone Daddy Gone though.

Erm, nah. You’re alright. This wasn’t good, it wasn’t bad but weirdly it wasn’t average either.

corney

Not for me. Blister in the Sun is jaunty enough (and I now realise that I know this song from some advert or other) but cannot get into the relentless jauntiness of the majority of this album. The only other track I like is the slower tempo Good Feeling

mostly acoustic music with occasional bouts into chaos. the vocals come across as the insane ramblings of a weirdo. honestly, i found much of it pretty unlistenable.

Unique, creepy. I've never loved the Femmes but you can't say they aren't completely different from everything else out there.

Bit boring. Songs sound the same and blend into one. 2/5 Got to end, biting & sings are samey

A couple of alright songs

3/5 too extreme for me

Music, production and composition does a lot to carry the album. Album is a little incel ish overall. Don’t even really care for the one hit.

Not really a fan of VF but some good tracks

When I'm out walking, I strut my stuff Yeah, and I'm so strung out I'm high as a kite, I just might Stop to check you out

i listened to the album with blister in the sun on it to cheer me up from another terrible record but it turns out its totally fucking rubbish

I'm not impressed by the barebone instrumentals or the folky singing.

It was a little rough. My thoughts go out to all the parents in the 80’s who had to endure this noise coming from their angsty teen’s bedroom. I’ve always found their most popular track “Blister in the Sun” to be quite unremarkable. The vocal track basically just mimics the guitar melody. Pretty lazy and not interesting at all. The album does have some originality. The acoustic bass is pretty funky. But overall, not my thing.

“Why can’t I get just one fuck?” asks the singer. Because your music sounds like it’s for children.

Not for me. Don’t mind there sound, but others have done it better. It’s like they’re trying too hard vibe wise while doing the bare minimum instrumentally/musically.

Sounded kinda like Jeremy Fisher at times. Very progressive for the early 80’s methinks.

This feels like an album you buy on vinyl just to discuss how you own it with other people who bought it on vinyl. While a stripped back early punk sound has a lot of appeal, it needs to be combined with a lot of creativity to make an album’s worth of content interesting. Nearly every song the Angry Ladies put on this album is just a repeat of the same 4 odd bars over and over again until the end of the song. The closest they come to a bridge is the occasional breakdown into mindless flaying of the instruments. The notable exception to all of this is the final track Good Feeling, which abruptly is a whole different feel from the rest of the album. It’s a decent song and if there were a couple more nuggets like it sprinkled throughout I think it would have lended this album some much needed variety. The songwriting is lacking on this album, limited to coming up with pretty much 4-8 bars per track with maybe 3 chords. That being said, I enjoyed the instrumentation. The bass stands out as the most inspired work on the album, sitting front and center throughout and playing non stop riffs. The licks may suffer from the same repetitiveness as the tracks, but they’re still pretty good. The guitar is decent too, and the drums are sloppy but pretty fun. Overall I think this Frumpy Broads drags when listened to all at once, but hearing a track or two individually is nice.

Yet another album with classic songs (Blister in the Sun / Gone Daddy Gone) that I recognize even though I don’t know the band. There’s something about the guy’s voice that sounds… lazy? Almost sounds like the guy is singing karaoke or something. Hard to put my finger on what it is, but it makes me feel a bit bored too.

Blister and the Sun, followed by nine lesser versions of Blister and the Sun. Okay, maybe except for Please Do Not Go because that's another banger. Otherwise, pretty samey. I get wanting to stick to a signature sound, but there's a very fine line that separates the thought that makes you go "Aww man, love the distinct sound that Violent Femmes never fails to deliver," and the thought that this band is a one-trick pony. A little more variety would've been nice, because the steak was nice but it just needed a little more seasoning.

rupesi jalkaa kutkuttaan... kädet vapisee...vähän karistelemaan lanteitam... ja VÄLITTÖMÄSTI huumehörhöily alkaa.. MIKSI. mutta MIKSI. aina tartte tollasta... meikä ei äänestä vihreitä koska kannabiskysymys... haluaa laillistaa... awesome raw energy! lättys kii... ps suomalainen löydetty... good feeling

Blister in the Sun is an insanely catchy song made with the simplest riff ever. I can’t explain why, but I just really don’t like these guys. The sound is pretty annoying.

I think this type of music is very close to the generation from where it comes. Nothing interesting or revolutionary. Some questionable lyrics. Not my thing

Fun but rather young and teenager boys’ sex oriented one track minded lyrics. An anger that appears to be rooted in post-industrial small American town with no souls.

idk kinda mehh

Una verga

Plussaa akustisista sovituksista, miinusta oletetusta skenetyyppiydestä. Materiaali ei vielä täysin vakuuttanut (olisivat enemmän kuin Replacements), mutta antaisin 2,5 jos voisin.

The instrumentation was my favorite part about this album, but even that lost me at times. The vocals were grating and got annoying very quickly. These songs might be creative and ahead of their time, but I still don’t find myself enjoying most of them. Three songs stood out to me, Blister In The Sun, Confessions, and Good Feeling.

A bit monochromatic and repetitive, and even the better songs tend to go on a bit long. However, my feelings may be tainted by associating the album with a particularly annoying ex who played it all of the time.

If just a few things were slightly different, I think I would've really enjoyed this album, as the overall style of music is right up my alley. As it is, I real quick got real annoyed with the grating voice of the lead singer, and that paired with the repeating-peat-peating nature of many of the songs had me super questioning what the heck the band thought they were doing.

It’s meh. It has the songs we all know, “blister in the sun” and “gone daddy gone”. I don’t hate it but it is very “samey”, kind of headache inducing as an entire album. Likely won’t listen to on purpose again.

Ok. His voice gets grating after a few songs.

T3B 1. Blister In The Sun 2. Gone Daddy Gone 3. Please Do Not Go

The second and eighth track, Kiss off and To the kill where somewhat interesting, the rest of the album was forgettable and repetitive.

I actually listened to the entire album, which is a huge accomplishment for an album that's predominantly punk. What's more, the non-punk elements were actually interesting and even good at some individual points of the album. Still, definitely not enough to make a mostly-punk album enjoyable though.

A couple of early alternative classics and some decent songs, but frankly the acoustic guitar-and-cocktail drum band format is tedious after a few songs. I've always felt they were okay, but overrated.

Vind het wat amateuristisch klinken. De zang was niet altijd even zuiver

I'm willing to bet this album's Wikipedia entry says something like "it received extensive airplay on college radio". In other words, it's nerdy alt-rock crap. 2/5.

nothing violent, no femmes. i feel as cheated as the coverphoto kid whom they told there would be cute animals on the other side of that window.

I was really trying to give this one a chance as I suppose they were doing their genre well but it went from me noticing weak vocals to me actively hating the whiney powerless singing. I just wanted it to be over and had to trudge through the last half

I struggle with this album because I either really liked a song or despised it. From Add It Up to To The Kill i was annoyed by the whining and creepy rapey music (begging for a fuck isn’t my thing). But their radio hits were fun and I enjoyed the opening of the record too.

Ik vind het een beetje schoolbandjes muziek. Maar dan nog niet eens zo heel leuk.

Already heard it. I didn’t vibe with it.

okay, bit mindless.

There were parts that I wanted to like but most of it was just annoying. I feel like people who make music sometimes need a reminder that people have to listen to it.

Her hadde eg også store forhåpninga, men va ikkje for meg detta heller

I'm not the first to comment on this album being a decade ahead of its time, sound wise. As for my own 2c, I don't care it was ahead of its time; I'm judging by current standards. I'll settle with Blister in the Sun being rather brilliant, and the rest of the album being rather ordinary.

2/5 naaaah

Underwhelming. Maybe would have enjoyed it at the time but never heard their stuff until now. Gone Daddy Gone is the exception.. Brilliant track and use of glock

Muutama kuunneltava biisi, mutta kokonaisuus vaisu ja paikoitellen ärsyttäväkin.

Undistinguished. "Blister in the Sun is fun", but aside from that ...

This was mostly fine, but didn't really grab my attention. A bit mid-paced and dull. I didn't love the discordant vocals either. Rating: 2/5 Playlist track: Blister In The Sun Date listened: 12/04/22

Stripped down but upbeat (punk) rock. The band sounds okay, but I'm finding the lead vocals quite irritating.

Not my cup of tea

This was fine but I didn't give it a fair shake. Maybe I'll return to it. I anticipated enough quirkiness in the vocals to be enjoyable and initially felt that wasn't the case.

Per una mattina è simpatico. Ma non so se lo ascolterò mai più nella mia vita.

Chato!

If pop punk from the 2000s had a great great grandfather, this is it. Enjoyable enough, probably wouldn’t listen to the album again on my own but wouldn’t be upset if it was playing wherever I was.

Very upbeat high energy music. Some songs better than others. The vocalist can tend to scream a bit too much for me. This would definitely keep me awake on a long car ride. Otherwise I probably would not listen to it often.

Unrefined punk. Simple yet catchy in so many ways. Enjoyed the xylophone on "Gone Daddy Gone". Fun commentary in "Kiss Off". That said, this was never one of my favorite punk artists.

Classic album that everyone loved except for me. Juvenile (not surprising though given the age of the bad) and a bit fun

Momentarily interesting. Mostly shite

Wow, I swore Blister In The Sun was a 90s song. The album sounds like it's ahead of its time. But on the whole I didn't fully vibe with it.

was not a fan, the guitar was nice but didn't like the vocals

Enjoyable for me and might add some cuts to some playlists. Not something I'd seek out for album listening session.

Blister in the sun saves this album

Not my thing

Temas muy austeros, pocos acordes, todo muy crudo, muy raro. Esa austeridad puede sentirse en el bajo y esa bateria? Tacho.

'Folk punk' describes it pretty well, its an unusual kinda sound. A lot of the tracks are a bit dull though, and the lyrics cringeworthy

One note and amateurish. Has its charm but it's not my scene.

I like the vocals for the most part and there's some catchy songs, but I don't think I'm really compelled by this. Also some of the stuff is a little too sophomoric for my taste.

Wait. Blister in the Sun is from 1983? Whaaaaaaat? I would've said 1993. Anyway, that song is great but since I kinda consider it a novelty song I never looked into the band. Now I have, because of this 1,001 Albums list. Amy I happy I did? Hmm. Not really. It's kinda just like more songs that are similar but not quite as charming and radio-friendly. I just can't take this "I don't give a shit about being a bad singer, isn't it funny!" for more than a single and B-side. Also, I HATE THE SOUND OF ACOUSTIC BASS.

Love Blister in the Sun. The rest sounds the same

Too nihilistic and punky for my liking.

OH THANK GOD, IT'S OVER!!!

I've listened to this album many times, and I've seen the Violent Femmes in concert. It's been a while since I've last listened to this album, but I could still sing along with most of the lyrics. However, this is not the same album for me that it used to be. The music is really good, but I can't overlook the lyrics like I used to. The songs seem to originate from a point of a view of a high school punk without much regard for women. There are tracks on this album that I would skip for sure - every time. There is music that I still like from the Femmes, but I couldn't recommend this album.

A couple of reasonable singles doesn’t make a great album

Decent back half redeemed an unimpressive start. That voice though...

What the hell is this?!

0 liked songs

Did not care for this album. There was one well known song.

A few good songs, but not a repeat listen for me.

Not very good to me

Bad pre-grunge?

Don't think it's my kind of music. His voice is kinda grating and there were some songs I really didn't like. Still, recognized and liked Blister in The Sun and enjoyed some of the first half Saved: Blister In The Sun, Gone Daddy Gone

Alternative / punkish, with a strong bass sound and a fair amount of acoustic guitar. Some discordance here and there. Singing is an acquired taste but in line for the style. Not my favorite overall.

Je ne me souviens pas vraiment de quekque tounes marquantes. Ce n’est pas mon genre et ce n’est pas un album ni band que je vais me rappeller.2.50

Alright. Few classics but overall not my cup of tea

Bitta craic indeed. Mad that’s 1983. 90s af.

A few good singles, but hard to listen to.

Kinda boring and the lyrics were depressing

I am usually pretty good about being open to singer's voices. Not this one it seems! I feel like I'm being hit on by a guy that just got dumped and is bitter about it, and the whiskey on his breath is also hitting on me.

A funny album.

Generally annoying vocals combined with chords that are mostly mediocre. This album wasn't fun, enjoyable, or significant culturally

not my thing

There are the type of people who love this band, Tom York's singing, black licorice, the Kardashians, Tik Tok trends, and eating boogers. Then there are people, like me, who will never understand the aforementioned people. For the love of all that is holy, why did NOONE have the balls to tell this guy to stop singing?? One star for at least being decent music.

Unenjoyable

I endured five songs and really needed to decompress, this made my skin crawl and I hope to never hear it again

If this is music then butter doesn't spread.

Some bands only had one good track in them, and that's ok. Why is this on the list?

Dios mío parece que no me gusta la música tanto como pensé. no sé cuál instrumento les falta, pero algo les falta. Todo me suena mal/ meh no me gustó.

not violent, not femmes… just plain white men music. whiny and outdated lyrics - maybe also just not my genre but this was not a good listening experience.

No es lo mio

Pretty generic

It was terrible but not complete dogshit -

no me termino de cerrar. al principio me hizo acordar a los beatles pero muy oscuro

Singer can’t sing for shit, the lyrics are really stupid, and the instrumentals are AWFUL. None of the instruments are in time with each other and also doesn’t line up with the vocals. Like some of the other reviews say, it just sounds like they’re randomly banging on their instruments to make sound. Just bad.

I cannot stand the Violent Femmes. I can sing along with almost all of this album because it was so overplayed on my local radio station. I do not understand why people found this artist entertaining or enjoyable to listen to.

Didn’t listen to it

I’ve heard of the Violent Femmes for years, though I didn’t know their debut came out in 1983. I think they’re folk? Maybe folk rock? Track one is Blister in the Sun, and it's probably the one Violent Femmes song everyone has heard, though they didn’t know it’s the Violent Femmes. I feel like I heard it a lot in the late 80s or early 90s. Maybe the Kids in the Hall used it? It sounds like a Kids in the Hall song. It’s a fun little song, but in a one-hit-wonder way. Our good friends at Wikipedia tell me the Violent Femmes are a folk punk band. I love that term. Folk and punk don’t seem to fit together. Blister in the Sun was a single off the album and is likely the best song on the album. Track 2 is Kiss Off. That's a punk song title. The band is playing punk rock, but on acoustic instruments. It’s wild. I’ve heard some bands that were labeled punk rock, but they didn’t sound like this. Oh, snap, I think the singer of the song is offing himself with pills. It’s the big Kiss Off. Track 3 is Please Don’t Go and it’s not the old blues song, Baby Please Don’t Go or the KC & the Sunshine Band's Please Don't Go. Both of those are better songs. I swear, these guys sound like the house band for Kids in the Hall. I miss that show. It was so weird and kooky, and for me, it rivaled Saturday Night Live. This song is pretty good. I like the harmonies on the chorus. Still all acoustic. Track 4 is called Add It Up and the lead singer sounds very whiny. It’s not like he hasn’t been in earlier songs, but now he’s begging for just one kiss, then just one F, and you know what F he’s wanting. The song isn’t bad, but he just sounds lame. It sounds like he’s writing about the angst a teenage boy feels when he can’t get no satisfaction. I’m sure it resonates more with a younger fellow. Track 5 is Confessions and I’m really starting to get annoyed with the vocalist. Each song seems to have been written by a horny 16-year-old boy, and it’s a lot of complaining. Again, I left teenage angst behind years ago. Track 6, Prove My Love, is a pretty good song. I like the groove it’s got. The bass player is the hero in this song. It seems the Violent Femmes are still together. I wonder if the singer sounds as whiny or if his voice has matured over the years. Track 8, To the Kill, is just a mess. There are points in the song where it sounds like I played the bass or guitar. And I can’t play. It’s just a bunch of random off-key notes. Maybe it’s jazz punk? I’m not sure why this is a must-listen album yet. Turns out, most of the songs sound like they were written by an angst-driven teenager is because they were. Lead singer, guitarist, and band songwriter, Gordon Gano wrote all the songs when he was 18. That explains all the teenage frustration and anger. Track 9 is Gone Daddy Gone and I immediately recognize the music. It’s got a xylophone playing, which you'd think would be bad, but it's not. Willie Dixon, the legendary bluesman and songwriter, gets a credit on the song as they took lyrics from his song, I Just Want To Make Love To You. This certainly is a most upbeat song. Gnarls Barkley covered it, and I’m sure that’s why I recognized it. I love Gnarls Barkley way more than the Violent Femmes. And we're finished. This wasn’t a slog, really, because most of the songs were short, but I just wasn’t into this. I think I’m so far past my teenage years that I don’t connect with all the whining. I will say Blister in the Sun and Gone Daddy Gone were pretty good. But you don’t have to hear this to keep living.

couple of ok songs, but in general I don't like punk and apparently making it more folksy doesn't help.

Ears are bleeding a little as I bash my speakers in with a baseball bat that I may find some sort of reprieve in the sound of static hiss and sparks as the noise dies.

Man I fucking hate Blister In The Sun. This is the music equivalent of slam poetry: just because the barrier of entry is this low it doesn’t mean everyone should be able to make music. An album responsible for the invention of folk-punk, one of my least favourite genres of music. Just awful. I was ready to say ‘well at least they bring good energy to it’ but half of these songs are too maudlin and moapy.

Add It Up wasn’t bad, but I had to stop mid way through the album, just not for me. 0/5 ⭐️

Ugh.....no. 80's hipster garbage. Hard pass.

Dreadful outdated pseudo new wave tosh not deserving of inclusion on this list

too folk and indie

20 years too late to be relevant to the second-wave rock 'n roll it attempts to emulate.

Опять человек не умеющий петь и опять гитара поверх голоса

Woof, So this is where the Whiny Emo bands got everything from. The lyrics from Add it Up? MAAAAYYY be a bit problematic... I used to think I was the kind of person that would listen to all types of music. This process has shown me that I absolutely do not listen to all types of music.

Stand-out tracks: nothing really Wasn't impressed by this album at all and is one I wouldn't want to listen to again. There are no tracks to highlight here unfortunately. The intrumental side is very hit or miss with this blend of folk and punk. Weird to hear so much acoustic guitar in a punk context. The vocals were just annoying and turned me off immediately (they turned the singer on though : > ). All in all, a debatable 1, but I'm still not sure how harsh I should be, so it is a 2 for now.

At first I thought this was merely mediocre, but no, no; this, in fact, is asswipe

Many old songs that I recognize but not good imo

Knew 2 of the songs on here before listening to the album. I can tolerate "Blister In The Sun", but "Add It Up" still grates on me. The rest of the album was actively annoying. The only redeeming quality of this album is the acoustic bass guitar. Even though his vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, his bass lines are interesting throughout. Still, not enough to save this album from getting 1 star.

1/10 - Favorite song: Add it up

Nja, det här var inte speciellt bra. Jag gillade Good Feeling, som var fin, men resten av albumet kommer inte ens i närheten av ”värda att lyssna på”.

siroba. shua gzashi mivatove da blocked them

Absolutely not my style, not a single song I enjoyed

If I could give 0 starts, I would.

This album wasn't my vibe at all. The singing, the guitar, the talking. Nothing really worked for me.

The first song is the best because it's used in quirky indie films, the rest of the album is hot trash. 1/10

Okay, this was actually really bad. The music wasn't terrible, but definitely nto great. But the singing was awful. They sounded false, and the lyrics were dumb.

It started a little off, i wish i didn't focus so much on the lyrics but can't help they make no sense. confessions is a good song

No thank you.

turned it off like 4 songs in this shit is ass 0 stars if possible

One good song

no likey, and there are some unique melody

I took absolutely no joy in the listening to this album. Indefensibly mediocre music, that bordered on folk jazz, and just about the whiniest, most self-indulgent lyrics put to record. Honestly, it reminded me on how my own head space has been over the last month or so, and God knows I don't need reminders of that. Drivel.

Whining. I couldn't finish that - punishing

nice guys finish last: the musical

konstigt och tråkigt samtidigt, inget för mig

I did not listen to this one. Stop fucking asking

Not my vibe. First song is a soundtrack mainstay

this sounds like a practical joke

Shit is ass

I can’t get through this without skipping. The instruments sound AWFUL. The vocalist sounds terrible. It’s just a no from me.

1. This is truthfully not really my genre and while this might be a foundational album in this genre it's just a little bit whiny/screamy for me. In other words, while I can acknowledge how some others might like this album, it's not for me.

General out-of-key vocals, not particularly enjoyable. Instruments were overall okay.

Odié que son hombres, increíble

Bliste run the sun is pretty good. But not amazing. Xylophone on go daddy is great. Good feeling is a sweet song

Not really for me but I can understand how some people might really like it

Boring

Absolutely unreal that one album has two of my least favorite songs of all time on it: Blister in the Sun (and a little bit softer now!) and that awful incel anthem. So much crap here. I absolutely hate when bands pretend to be too cool for their own lyrics, like.in the songs here where it is counting and says some dumb shit like "I don't remember what 8 is supposed to be" - like you didn't record that line on like 20 takes of this track. God I hated this album.

Occasionally, the guitar work was interesting, but other than that, there are no redeeming features.

positves: + i knew a couple of songs thanks to my dad + the ones i knew were a vibe negatives: - the songs were all similar/ had similar themes causing the listening to feel repetitve - the piano plinking and plonking randomly especially during gone daddy gone really annoyed me my favourite song: blister in the sun which scored a 6/10

Nah. Can't stand the vocals.

Too simplistic and poorly performed for my tastes.

Boring. 1/5

I was really not into this

Trash! Talking and bad singing over bad music. 1001 albums you have to listen to doesn’t know anything yet again.

Not for me

Horrible trash.

Terrible

Missed it

A truly miserable experience.

The music is ok but the singing is not. Sounds like he's just rambling on. Best song: Gone Daddy Gone

one hit wonder of blister in the sun. the rest of the album was a real flop for me.

Folk punk, allegedly. Sounds more like the drama club crashed a frat party. A-side is all whine and campgrounf tunes. “Blister in the Sun” has been played to death, resurrected, and killed again. B-side improves. A bit like Television if they started busking. That this sold 2 million copies is either proof of a marketing miracle or a cosmic joke.

The lead singer sounds like the child of a Lou Reed and Jonathan Richman union. Unfortunately, these two greats produced an embarrassment. Better luck next time, fellas.

Did not listen. you know why

Well, that was quite shit. I hate this (often popular) style of singing slightly off key

Bad, cool sound sometimes

Quite dull

Pretty boring album. That one song is not enough.

Poco entusiasmante e coivolgente, nonostante siano buoni musicisti

This is a ramshackle affair which hides the fact these songs are little more than nursery rhymes without any charm whatsoever. You can hear the influence of The Clash and Stray Cats and you could probably - at a leap - see the acoustic genesis of what woudl eventually become grunge but, honestly, by the time you get to the live stuff you feel like throwing the speaker out of the window.

Didn't really like the roughness of the mixing on this album. Definitely more raw and unpolished. Liked Blister in the Sun and Gone Daddy Gone 3/10 -- wouldn't listen to the album again

I loathe Blitser in the Sun pretty much more than anything on earth. And it was such an alt-music staple I heard it constantly for so many years. And my disdain for it just grew and grew until it became a foaming-at-the-mouth maniacal hatred unrivalled by any other. But in the interest of fairness I still put this on. Yep. I still absolutely hate that song and this album. If I could take away stars from it I would. This sucks so badly I’m surprised the earth still has an atmosphere.

Listened: 6/02/2025 Album no: 15 % rating: 33% Fave Song: blister in the sun Listening to men sing about women is so fucking exhausting; like pick literally any other subject to sing about. Jfc. Ended up skipping a bunch of the latter tracks because they sound insufferable.

Outside the two singles, this borders on unlistenable... and even those are brought down by the overall experience...

"In 2007, Gano angered Ritchie by selling advertising rights for the classic 'Blister in the Sun' to Wendy's." Talk about beef!

gordon gano seems to really hate himself, which is relatable because i also fucking hate him

Not a huge fan

Punk is one of my least favorite genres. I hate the singer's voice and the melody choices.

Leider kann ich den „Gesang“ nicht ertragen. Furchtbar. Nullnummer!

Music for couples who watch 500 Days Of Summer in their matching Snorlax onesies, call chicken nuggets ‘nuggy nugs’, and watch NPC TikTok videos.

Nah bro

Only one good song on the album. dont waste your time

Nothing that struck me... why not but definitely not an album I would give a second listen.

Songs i know: 1 Song i like: 0 WTF is this? It sounds like it has been written by 2 year stoned 10 students for their music gcse coursework and recorded in the PE changing rooms. Absolute codshead of an album.

Sounds like a teenager in his bedroom making up songs

3.5/10. While I understand that this album is really important, and has its fair share of devoted fans, it really isn't for me. The music gave me a massive headache, and I constantly waited for the album to end. It was an incredibly unpleasant experience for me, personally.

Boring and hurt my head

I had high hopes at the start of this album, but it was overall quite insufferable. The instrumentation is really interesting sometimes but the lead singer is annoying and there are some quite terrible lyrics. I just know their rehearsal room smelt really bad. Take a shower please.

1. blizter - 1 2. kizz - 1 3. do not go - 1 4. up - 1.5 5. confezzionz - 1 6. love - 1 7. promize - 1.5 8. kill - 1 9. daddy - 1.5 10. good - 1.5 11. ugly - 1.5 12. car - 1

Whiny AF. Never really loved them

Almost done the album at time of writing. Tbh I didn't like it that much. Not even great as background music to me.

just no my thing i guess

Some catchy guitar riffs and solid drums but not a huge fan of this guys voice. Very whiny. Dude is definitely on a ton of drugs. Brief brief moments of ok music. Overall sense of when will this be over.

Good lord no music should ever sound like this. Within two minutes I knew this would be one of the worst albums I’ve heard in my entire life. I’m sorry but it’s horrible on every form shape and sound and I hope to never hear this again. The only explanation I can see this being on this list is a blueprint of what people should never ever replicate.

Dry like dog shit. Violent Failures. 0/10 0 stars.

not for me

Not impressed..

😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔

Horrible

I have hated Blister in the Sun since I first heard it, but I decided to give this an objective listen because that's what this list is all about for me. After some thought, I have decided that I hate the rest of it too. The music is uninspired, the vocals are from a whiny 5 year old and why is there acoustic guitar in every damn song that's front and center in the mix? My disdain for this musical style runs deep. Here's hoping this is the only album on the list.

Ah yes, my forty year hate affair with this record continues. I have hated this album passionately since it was the number one favorite at all 1980s camp socials. It never failed to make all the girls shriek. All my punk folks say that I will never truly understand punk until I can wrap myself around this album, so I have tried time and time again, and…we’re just going to have to agree to agree on this one. I mean, I get punk that is angry and passionate, and I get punk that is sarcastic and nihilistic, but I can never figure out which way they’re trying to go here. Plus, Gano’s vocals are just so flipping awful, and that stupid acoustic guitar…I guess everyone’s gotta have a most-hated album, and this one’s mine.

Did not resonate with this at all. I can admit there's some quality here, but it did not satisfy me in any particular way. I think it's vocal performance/production issues for me. It sounds to me like an album full of Talking Heads' "Swamp." Sad to say it's 1 star.
