Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Sounds like a brutalism-inspired sort of music. I'd say the middle of the release is quite okay for passive listening, as a somewhat noir-fashioned record. However, the beginning and the ending felt boring. As this is far from being something either as melodic as many Daft Punk works (even the first few disks) or as crazily experimantal as the Einstürzenden Neugebaten industrial album on the 1001 list (which I rated 1/5 anyways), I'll just give it two out of five. "The Model" and "Neon Lights" are generally not bad.

4/10 I appreciate how ahead-of-the-times this album is - very electronic, futuristic, industrial. I just don't particularly have an interest in it. I'm sick and have a headache so I may not be in the right head space for this album, so I'll give it a relisten at a later time.

I’d rather listen to Neil’s Transfomer.

I struggled to get through this.

🤖WE ARE THE ROBOTS🤖 Charming, silly, but lacking in funk. More rhythmic diversity would be nice. I'm guessing they get more credit (than they deserve) for being the first to do it (with synths). I do appreciate that they left a lot of space in the lyrics and arrangements for a listener's mind to run in.

Saying “I am a robot” over and over again is the first thing a kid would do with that voice machine

I’ve never heard this…OH NOOO sike no but really I haven’t so I’ll listen back, it’s really 80s though like super, I like 80s but it was not for me too much electronic synth

Beep boop beep beep. R2D2 l'album.

Oh no. Not another Kraftwerk.

Not sure what I just listened to. Definitely noty favorite. Reminds me of friends when Ross plays his music in front of the gang. That kid of vibe.

not my kind of music weird techno.

Bliepjes is niet mijn ding

Very cool dance album, not my favorite. Kind of repetitive

I appreciate Kraftwerk but its not something I really want to listen to

It's just not my bag. I can appreciate the production and the technical achievement, but it leaves me cold (and I know that's basically the point, they are German after all.)

Beep beep boop bop beep

Felt just as repetitive as the others. I'd actually say I enjoy electronic in general, but something about this group just doesn't do it for me.

Ja ja ja, mach schnell mit der art things, huh?

yeah… not my kappati

4.5/10

Not my style. listened to while getting ready and in geometry. my favorite was The Model.

At least it was a short album. I felt like it was more tolerable because of that alone. Still don’t know why this is on this list.

It’s just the same as all of their other albums

Totally underwhelming like every other Kraftwerk album we've had. They just repeat the same word for the entire song and it's supposed to be profound? Like what? Yes there was that one song that had a story but that was only one song. None of the other songs did anything.

sounds like all the other Kraftwerk albums-men pretending to sound like robots & weird sounds

This album is a bag of mixed emotions for me. I absolutely dislike when artists use a vocoder and make themselves sound like robots… it fits Kraftwerk as they are an electronic band but they have songs on this record with actually human sounding vocals that are just so much better. The music is really cool. I am a Trent Reznor fan, so that’s probably why I enjoyed the music. Overall this album isn’t my cup of tea. The first three songs are 0/5 for me but it does slightly pick up after that. Not really a fan. I think the only song by Kraftwerk that I really enjoy is Computer Love…. But that’s not even on this album. I remember hearing Computer Love for the first time and I remember thinking “I have heard this melody before!!!” And I was puzzled for a long time. It was so familiar. Then after going over it in my head a million times I figured out where I heard it. Coldplay had sampled the riff for their song Talk but transcribed it to guitar. And honestly, they made it their own. I had heard Coldplays version before and thought “this is such a great melody.” It’s pretty cool that they were inspired by Kraftwerk and made a song revolved around that melody. Chris Martin even hand wrote a letter to the members of Kraftwerk to ask permission to use that riff. And they surprisingly gave the ok to use it. They’re notoriously protective of their music and don’t often let people sample it. So that’s neat. And that bit of trivia has nothing to do with this record.

I am utterly shocked that people rate this as well as they do. In what world are these sounds emotionally charged and beautiful? Listen, it's cool from a historic, achievement-in-electronica view. But I'm not gonna sit here and say that ze Deutschland Kraftwerk jungen were making panty-dropping gold here. It was experimental synth work loosely tied to some robot story. It's listenable. I think that's about all there is to say. Fave track: - Neon Lights

Not for me. Electronic music makes me feel anious. I can absolutely appreciate the skill required to create this but not something I'd choose to listen to. 2 stars

Somewhat Devo derivative, some SpongeBob robot episode? Liked The Model song. 2.5?

interesting... scary at first, then got used to it

Obviously inspired lots of bands, but didn't get much from listening to it beyond noticing that

Very cyber very intergalactic like robot in the future be making ts ill leave this album for the ai to listen to not me

EDM and me just don't really get along. Listen to a couple of songs but was so completely bored! Just not my cup of tea.

Nothing crazy interesting about this electronic music, however, impressive for the mid-70s. Still overall great vibe and fun background/party music. Mostly wish songs were less repetitive and shorter.

couldn’t finish it 😭 just wasn’t for me

I see the vision but all the beeps and boops don't quite make an album

Repetitive and boring. Neon lights was the only song I didn’t hate. This kind of music does not stand the test of time for me.

Its somewhat good, repetitive, wouldn't listen to it on my own but it's nice to find this.

Not my thing, but interesting

This made me feel like I was in an episode of Stranger Things

This was fine for what it was but I didn’t really find it that interesting. This was probably a lot more exciting when it came out than today

Electronic isn’t really my thing

Techno EDM yummy. We are the robots. We are the robots. Futuristic fun. Germany. That's it. Kinda boring.

Sehr weirdes Album aber irgendwie catchy. Leider nicht mein Geschmack. Das Model natürlich trotzdem ein Klassiker. Habe die deutsche Version gehört.

Ethereal and airy, but a bit repetitive. I appreciate Kraftwerk's ground breaking influence that has yielded the electronic music we have today.

This is certainly an important album with respect to the development of electronica, EDM, etc. It was interesting in that respect. It is fun to think about the musicians messing with new tech in interesting ways. That said, it didn't hold up very well for me, although it did lead to some interesting conversations with my son about EDM, so that was a bonus. I can see why it made the list, but not something I'm likely to revisit in the future.

Not the biggest fan. Cool sounds, but kind of lackluster. Favorite song was Neon Lights.

weird. don’t know what I think really

Sounds like 16 bit games. This is overrated. Not very exciting at all.

i would give 1, what a crap, but the model song puts it higher

"The Robots" - nice and funky beat but why is a robot actually singing to me "Spacelab" - still the beat was funky but not my thing at all "Metropolis" - i really hate this one my ears hurt but i tolerated the singing "The Model" - this one might be better "Neon Lights" - can this end "The Man Machine" - i absolutely hated that

I didn't really like it, but it was kinda catchy. 2/5

Not meu estilo, um eletrónico até bem tass, mas nada de mais

Wtf….

Too Heldercore for me 🥹🥹 fica repetitivo e canso me logo mas.. it's cool ig Ok wait to a gostar do inicio da última música Pronto mas nunca mais muda de beat Like ok i get it machine machine machine machine machine machine machine machine machine Back at it again with the machine They were cooking mas o frango ta meio cru

Entã, eu acho fixe que isto tenha sido feito nos anos 70 mas eu não acho que seja para mim. Não que seja mau, I just don’t get it (e parece algo que tocaria nuna aula de GA if ykwim)

This may have been a groundbreaking electronic album when it came out 47 years ago, but it didn't age well. Sounds silly and juvenile. Probably a must listen if you're really into electronica but there's so much better stuff out there.

I'll give it 2 stars. High 2 stars. I didn't really like it but i didn't really hate it either.

it feels weird to critique the album? kind of like reviewing classical music, there's this historic sheen on it that separates it from just any other techno record. it's interesting, and kind of funny, and i guess there's *something* cool about it, but judging it on the same metrics as every album i dont know that it's the most routinely listenable. The Model sounds impressively modern, that's probably my favorite. but yeah daft punk (original 1978 theatrical run colorized) like 2.4/5

1. Why is every single one of these songs nostalgically familiar 2. I went in ready to hate but I'm getting why these are kinda """influential""" 3. The Model best on the album 4. Not THAT bad 4.3/10

Sounds like soundtrack to 80s movie

Not for me sorry

Totally Daft Punk's ancestor. Songs are a too drawn out for my tastes (2.5)

So Models was a hit in the UK. This is music for clubbers of disco. Not for me.

I dont like electronic music in general and surprisingly i didn’t like this. It does however have ‘the model’ on it which is undeniably catchy

Another band my Dad liked and which got played a lot in the house when I was a kid... and which I don't understand the appeal of. The Model is alright (and short!) but otherwise this isn't for me. I did enjoy that the German accent made "Metropolis" sound like "call the police" every time they sang it. Bleepy bloopy background music. 2/5

I can see how this was influential, but I don't like it very much.

watafaku

Cool sounds and I’m sure pioneering for it’s time. The songs don’t do much for me on a single listen.

Computer game music. What else could this be good for? Do people really listen to this?

I'm just not a Kraftwerk fan I'm sorry Cathal

I can totally see in 1978 when this album was released, that people could imagine that this is what the future sounded like. Also if you’re a hip hop head you’ll definitely notice a few choice samples.

Sounded cool 2

Sûrement très sympa pour l'époque mais on se fait chier quand même hein

Chelou les allemands

It was cool considering the time period it came out, however would not listen to again

Not for me. Some of it is pleasant enough in the background, but ughh. And the robot voice was dumb and bad. Rolled over into "Computer Love," which is not on this album, but which I did like.

Repetitive and not very interesting

Not great, electronic music is hard to make interesting. That is the case with this one.

Not for me. I liked the last one we had (Trans-Europe Express) much more. Favorite Song: Metropolis

“We are the robots” - Interesting music, my first time hearing this band. Unique in a good way. A lot of synths that have a bit of a chilling vibe to them. Can be very catchy too. Distorted and robotic voices everywhere. This is strictly electronic music. I can see how some may be turned off by this while others are addicted. I’m somewhere in the middle.

Daft Punk did it better years later

I understand how cool it is that this album sounds the way it does when it came out back in the 70's, but I can't honestly say that made my listen any more enjoyable. Just the title of the song in a robotic voice over a synth beat. Over and over and over again for more than half the album. Sometimes they change it up but not enough to make it matter. I'll be nice and give a point for the pleasantness of the beats, but that is all I can give.

I've tried to listen to Kraftwerk before and they never really hit with me. Too german, too new age, too.... synth (?). I found the first half to be good, for background music when doing something else. Model was a good track, and the title song, Man Machine was decent. 2/5.

Felt like redundant video game music, these guys love robots. 🤖

I know they’re influential but I didn’t care for this much at all.

just old electric noise, not bad just not for me

Transformers music

While I appreciate the influence Kraftwerk has had on many artists I enjoy, I have never been able to get into them. However, of the three albums of theirs I have gotten on this list thus far, I disliked this one the least. The hyper-redundancy just wears me out after not too long. But the question remains, who are the robots? Why won’t they tell us?

Interesting, not bad. Some songs are quite catchy. But most of them are too monotonous. I wouldn't go back to this album voluntarily. 2,5/5.

Man, I know that Kraftwerk were super avant garde and cutting-edge for their time. and I know that they helped springboard a couple different musical genres. I know they're well respected for their work. For what it is, its recording is pristine and reflects a systematic and intentional approach to music creation. But man, I just don't care about "soundscapes" or EDM (which this maybe really isn't, but seems like a predecessor for), or synth music. This was a hard listen for me, though I respect the talent. It's just so mind-numbing for me. 2/5

Important in the development of electronic music, but dated

It sounds like you'd expect a Kraftwerk album to sound. I think I liked this one better than the other one I listened to, but I can't really say I liked it. Less unpleasant than I'd feared, ultimately!

Cover 4 I can only think of Ross Geller playing his. Innovative music at Central Park with the dog barking and car crash sounds. I don't hate this but despite them being innovators of the genre, I prefer the people they influenced rather than them themselves.

The Model is a banger, but besides that not really my type of music. Honestly fascinating that they did this in the 70s, but overall very repetitive. Gotta love the German accents in the vocals though!

Bof, trop électronique 2 étoiles

Weird, but in a slightly good way. Curious what people thought of this when it first came out as it feels ahead of it's time. Can't bring myself to give it more than a 2 though as I can't see myself listening to a lot of this.

A couple OK tracks, but I was glad it was over quickly.

I like the band but not this album

Just... boring nonsensical electronica. I'm glad that there's representation for this genre on the list, but that's where my glee stops

Okay literally no false pretences on this album. Not trying to hide away- the album screams we are the future get behind it or fuck off. Bringing electro beats to the 70s, possibly becoming the muse to a generation of 80s music (and most likely inspiring 2 albums from pet street boys which I’ve been forced to listen to on this 1001 roster) but also can hear modern techno music being influenced by this album. But I will say there is a difference to being influential and one that I enjoy listening to. There is a reason there is little singing on the album. The Model shows you why… Couple of songs were fun - but can’t imagine I’m adding this to my regular playlist selection

Ihan groovi ja svengi mutta aika avaruusleffaviba

A bit dated. Kids hated it!

When “The Man Machine” was released in 1978, it must have been straight-off avant-garde. Moreover, the album is extremely clear and tastefully produced for its time. Unfortunately, despite all its professionalism and quality, the “songs” remain nothing more than ringtones to me - perfect as the soundtrack to a retro computer game. As standalone music, however, I don't think they have aged too well.

I have not heard much Kraftwerk - the only song of theirs I would say I'm familiar with was "Tour de France" because it was featured in a great scene in Breakin'. The first song here ("Robots") sounds almost like a prequel to that song. I don't hate this but couldn't imagine listening to it a lot. It sounds like the soundtrack for an old arcade game. The lyrics are unintentionally hilarious but I'll give them a pass on that because English isn't their first language. "The Model" reminds me of the "Space Pants" SNL skit with Peter Dinklage and Gwen Stefani.

Kiutty: Melodia boa, porem cansativo. Moov: Chato pra um caralho, nós dropamos o album na penultima música de tão cansativo que era.

Perhaps it is valid in the context of its time and contemporaries - sure, I read the wiki page. But elegaic, best electronic album of all time? Aw hell no - this music sucks. To me it just captures the naive, modernist obsession with "robot as personal slave", a kind of ham fisted reaching for the world, grabbing at progress absent mindedly. Now we all have 4 hours of screen time a day and job loss for AI. 2 stars for novelty but otherwise corny, unenjoyable almost muzak

Another in a series of bands my favourites are indebted to or love but I just...have never found a way into. Und ich kann Deutsch! A lot of Kraftwerk plays like the factory settings, waiting for someone with actual inspiration or emotion to come along and do something with it. And sure enough, look at all the samples folks turned Kraftwerk into!

This is what, the third Kraftwerk album on this list? I don’t think they warrant that large a space here. It’s impressive to do this in the 70s and not aggressively unpleasant though, so it’s saved from a 1 star rating

I appreciate Kraftwerk's music because of how ahead of its time it was, but man I wish I liked listening to it more.

Wildly unpleasant to listen to, as it's just noise for 40 minutes. But some of those sounds are interesting from an audio generation perspective for how old this album is.

They had a 3 until they started singing.... way better as just ambient music

2.5. Too much instrumentals for my taste. Became a bit boring 😔

Not really my thing but gets bonus points for being insanely influential and ahead of its time. 2.5

Man it’s crazy this came out in 1979. Wonder what the reaction was to something like this back then. That being said I couldn’t even get halfway thru it lol.

Not my thing

Unfortunately this came just a day after a Prodigy album, and boy has the technology changed. I understand they were hugely influential to this style of music, but I've never been able to get into them really.

Not really into Electronic Music.

Nice album to be play while play minecraft

Kraftwerk is still not for me. Stupid repetitive shit

rubbish

Like crap stems of daft punk. Yeah yeah they were before their time

Tynt med tekst ja. Teller hele 6 ord på de 3 første låtene. Albumet hadde gjort seg bedre i halv lengde.

meio doido ne

Electronica has it's place, and there are a few influential electronica artists that put together a few hits and can be called influential. A precious few, and this album ain't one of them. That said, there's nothing objectionable here, it's just one of several dozen electronica albums that the editor has included. The only reason I can imagine for the inclusion is that the editor likes electronica. Well, I don't, and this album is not "must listen before you die."

Tremendous influence aside, it’s glitchy and cool, but doesn’t feel like much more than background music.

No. I understand this is mindblowing in the 70's. I can see where so many artists took inspiration from it. The Model is a success. But no, the rest of the album is too repetitive and made my brain disfunction.

Suht veider, siuke kosmoselaeva muusika. Ei usu et kunagi enam kuulan. Aga polnud halb kogemus. Võiks vabalt Stranger Thingsi fight scene'is olla. Kõik laulud enamvähem ühesugused, erilist muljet ei avaldanud.

This wasn’t awful. I always just wonder what this music is for. The really electronica stuff is not really for me.

better than daft punk

Aikaansa edellä, hieno kokonaisuus. Nykyään vähän simppeliä, mutta aikaansa nähden hieno albumi.

It's not for me. I like a lot of synth music, but this is too shallow in concept. I'm sure it's meant to be a commentary on the superfluous nature of modern times with its references to work, super models, and city lights (and little reference to anything else) but there's nothing for me to connect to. Sounds like a great soundtrack for a retro sci-fi movie, but not a casual listen for yours truly.

No thank u

Fine album, more of a vibe in my opinion. Honestly could have fell asleep to this if I tried. low 2.5

Best thing about this is the less than 40 minute run-time.

I cannot think of a time when someone would feel the need to listen to this album/type of music. Is this in line with or a reaction to the Nazis?

alright but not my Gout

Regardless of their potential influence on the genre, and their vision for the time, this was not a very enjoyable album to listen to. It is likely largely associated with the genre and it's repetition not being something that I am a fan of and believe it can only be enjoyed when under the influence. This will receive a 2/5.

If it weren't for metropolis having a slight blade runner vibe, this turd would have gotten a 1. I just don't understand the appeal of these guys.

2 stars for innovation but just not my thing.

Trying to understand when and where I would choose to put this on.

very dated. I can see how it was revolutionary at the time, but we've come so, so far beyond it now

An interesting sound, just not to my palate

Techno funk! 'Tis a vibe!

Eh, kind of forgettable

This was an exciting album to dive into, since while I'm a fan of electronic stuff I'd only gone as far back in time as Aphex Twin's stuff from the 90s. With what I thought was an underwhelming intro, the album picks up momentum quickly with a dark, almost dystopian soundscape full of hypnotic synths and percussion. Sadly, in the middle, I felt the album lost steam and I came away ultimately underwhelmed - while I found some tracks that I did enjoy quite a bit, I would've loved to see some tracks be shortened (there's arguably a lot of room for that) and to have more to dive into. While only 6 tracks isn't inherently a bad thing, only liking half of them doesn't exactly compel me to revisit the record any time soon. I found it funny that some tracks had lyrics solely consisting of pretty much just the song name, I imagined it as reminding us which track we were on in case we forgot lol. The Robots was bound to be an interesting listen for me whether I liked it or not since I didn't know what to expect from 70s electronic. Unfortunately I found it a bit repetitive, and the whole 'robot' thing feels a bit cheesy coming from an electronic record. Spacelab is a lot more fun right off the bat with punchy percussion and spacey synths. The melodies are also a lot more enjoyable compared to the previous track, and I can even hear a bit of Carpenter Brut here, with some of the deeper, darker synths. Metropolis takes some of what I enjoyed about Spacelab, particularly the synthwork, and expands on it with even more synth emphasis and an even darker sound. I didn't find it quite as charming as Spacelab but it's still a nice track in its own right. The sound in The Model takes a different direction I didn't quite enjoy. It felt like a lot more of a slog to sit through for me, despite being the shortest track on the album. Interesting to hear actual lyrics for once, but lyrics have never really been my thing anyway, so I can't say it does much for me. Neon Lights is more of what I didn't really like from The Model to begin with, stretched out to 9(!) minutes long with even more uninteresting and empty feeling melodies, perhaps even feeling like it was there to pad the record out. The Man Machine is thankfully a decent outro, but it's not quite enough to save my opinion of the record. This track may have the best variety of different sounds to work with (at least from what I noticed) and has my favourite vocal usage, so there's that at least. FAVOURITES - Spacelab; Metropolis LEAST FAVOURITES - The Robots; Neon Lights

I've not listened to much electronic music, I can appreciate this for what it is but a lot of the time the tracks feel too repetitive to warrant their length. I have to imagine what is being done here was very impressive at the time, but I am viewing from my current tastes, and it could definitely do better. The Robots - game soundtrack vibes, robot voice is at least initially pretty cool, I like the synths, keyboard is cool. I was left wondering for a while when the song would go somewhere and it just kind of didn't. It's fine but slightly underwhelming, I feel it could have used the time better. Spacelab - the synth is cool, the track does simultaneously achieve this futuristic and slightly otherworldly vibe, I like the effect on the vocal a lot. Metropolis - I love the way the synths come in moving up to their specific note. I care less for the rest of the song. Despite not initially liking the vocal it ended up being pretty catchy. The Model - the first song with proper lyrics, I like it. Neon Lights - this song made me realise I pretty much always love whatever they're doing with the synths on each track but also that overall I don't really like anything here enough that I'd want to listen again. It's not bad, just fine with a small number of enjoyable parts - but even these repeat in such a way that its ruined. This song in particular really, why is it so long, I don't understand. The end has a least this nice high vocal etc but it really just wasn't worth sitting through. The Man Machine - actually quite a nice outro track Best - Spacelab Worst - The Robots, Neon Lights

I was really into music in 1978 while in high school. Never heard of these guys. I think for good reason. Progressive electronic for the day but boring.

Isn’t this the band “Autobahn?”

Please stop sending me albums that sound like the future episode of SpongeBob

Early daft punk

Funky but not an every day typa album

Boring

Not unbearable, and it's only 36 minutes. Otherwise, this does not offer a lot of value in my life.

Lesson changeover music

Droning and a bit dull. Can see the framework for today’s EDM and influential for the new wave genre. Not awful but need a little more variety

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Am I going to ever see the appeal of pure electronic?

It gets tuah point where it is just hard to take seriously FOR ME Fav song: The Model

Should have been an EP, it's twice as long as it should be. Pretty cool otherwise.

Too techno and nonsensical for me.

Niet mijn ding, langzaam eentonig

I tried, I think it is just a product of it’s time and it’s more important than listenable

I understand that they basically paved the way for this type of music, but it still isn’t something I would listen to, so for me personally I have to rate it at least a 2. I would rate it a one but that feels mean given how impressive it was that they came up with something so new given the time period they were in.

I am not a robot.

I appreciated the danceable beats on some of the tracks, but felt pretty lost on the majority of this album.

I liked a couple of the songs but I found the rest of the album pretty boring and repetitive. I’m really not a big synthpop/electropop fan. Some of the beats were enjoyable, but I just struggle with synths and electronic drums and repetitive music. I do find the theming fun, it makes sense to me to make this kind of music about robots and machines. It was interesting to read the reviews and see what people love about this album, it just isn’t for me. Fav song: The Robots Least fav: Neon Lights

This feels so German.... In a way that lacks all emotion and is just bland. This is the second album by this band and the first at least had an interesting concept. Was this bad, no but it felt like bland potatoes. It felt like pre recorded songs from a synthesizer that you would hear as background music at Hans and Franz's juice bar. It's not taking me anywhere or giving me any emotions, just feeling beige. The more I listened, it almost made me think it could be AI generated music because it's basic stereotypical and generic.

I'm sure this was pretty cool for 1978. I'm not into electronic music enough to appreciate this for it's legacy. It sounds like something you could do with a couple yamaha keyboards and preset beats. I didn't think it was musically that interesting. I find these robots sadly lacking soul. Not totally awful but the boring factor puts it at a 2 for me.

Interesting, reminds me of a bit like video game music.

not terrible as such, just sounds like loading music for some like really pixely game like undertale or smth, it’s like if daft punk went wrong and very repetitive, im grateful for the length of the album lol

hmm hate it but i like the sound/tone, reminds me of the band erasure but like ass, like im two songs in and want to be done. okay just finished, yeah no thanks, first one and neon trees were my favourite but again songs should not be 7 minutes long, go away.

Yeah. I get it. Ahead of its time. I'll never listen again.

It wasn’t bad, I respect the album, but I would rather not listen to it.

This album sounds like what people in the 70’s thought the future was going to sound like. Which is fine, it is just a bit goofy about 45 years later. I’m sure this was super influential for those in the electronic music space. I have no doubt that there is some linear connection between Kraftwerk and Daft Punk all the way through Skrillex and Avicci. That being said, electronic music generally isn’t my jam and well… a record of futuristic space sounds isn’t going to make it onto any of my playlists any time soon.

Was a much more enjoyable listen than I was expecting after our first Kraftwerk album. I think the difference in length might be the biggest boost with this playtime being right in that sweet spot. Got Stranger Things theme vibes throughout and from time to time I felt like I was a computer hacker. Might be good as some background music but I can’t say I’d seek it out specifically.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiZ6rwaEBTc I'm glad this album is on the list. It's stuff like this that I want to discover. It's weird, it's different, it's something that I've never heard before, and it's not another Britpop album. That being said, I'm not that crazy about it. I really liked "Neon Lights" but none of the other songs did anything for me. That song is probably a 4 for me, but every other song is a 1.

This is just do t 'get' i suppose... I hate saying that but it's true here

No man, you're thinking of "bee-boo-boo-bop, boo-boo-bop."

I'm not much of an electronic music fan, especially this bare-bones and repetitive. I can appreciate its place, though.

Very weird…I don’t think I get it

I sure appreciate it for the impact it had on the evolution of music given that it's one of the first fully electronic albums, but I really struggled to enjoy it

Bit dull

This is clearly innovative for it's time, but I could not get into the sound. Just kind of flat, boring, and a little annoying. I've been listening to Balanscu Quartet plays some of the pieces for years. It was neat to hear the originals, but I prefer their versions.

While influential, Kraftwerk just doesn't appeal to me.

Yes, OK, you are the robots, we get it....

I don't like Electronica. However, the German accents were fun.

on feeling for this

Not terrible but can't really understand the appeal, there's not a mood or situation where I could imagine wanting to listen to this album. Very repetitive.

point9.

eh not a fan

Ground breaking electronica, but unfortunately soulless and boring too

I get nothing from this music. To me, it is completely lacking in warmth and soul. I acknowledge and appreciate their musicianship, but it just sounds lifeless to me.

Not bad but kinda boring

"Kraftwerk started the electronic music movement." -Elijah Wood

nah, no need to listen to this one and certainly not best 1001

Kinda fun, but got pretty repetitive.

Like a lot of bands, I think they peaked with their debut.

Repetitive. Maybe transformative for the time. Doesn't hold up today.

I don't really get this kind of music, until i put in the frame that this must have been mind blowing when it came out in the 70's. As far as it being interesting to listen to, very interesting. Enjoyable to listen to... Musik keinen Spaß macht.

So dull

It was just ok for me. Kraftwerk definitely has a unique sound, but for me, there was not enough variety within the album to make it interesting enough. Would not seek this one out again.

I guess I can thank them for NIN and to an extent Radiohead, but this isn’t really for me. 3/10

Interesting stuff, and annoyingly catchy. 2.1/5 Fav song: Spacelab

Good album even if I didn't really succed to get into it but I think it's a really good work for sure just not my taste.

Real doohickey-ass, mechanism-ass music. It's priceless for what it influenced and where it stood in a historical context, but didn't age well -- like most early electronica. This could literally be played with the same passion and emotion and musicality by a computer--and if that's the point, why don't they just do that instead? Gets better near the end, but I still probably wouldn't listen to this again or choose to put it on.

While I didn't really jive with it, it's incredible this was made in the 70s.

Every time I listen to a new record I'm always thinking about what setting the music would be perfect for. Is this a cooking album? Is this a chilling by the pool album? Crafting? Anyone else do this? The only activities I'm coming up with on this one are: Hacking into a mainframe, piloting a spaceship, and dancing the robot. Since I rarely do these activities, I probably wont be revisiting this album much in the NEAR future. PS- Can I just say that these guys got a lot about the future right: "The Robots" is clearly about AI "The Model" is clearly about social media influencers "The Man-Machine" is a all too accurate commentary about how our smart devices have become an extension of, and thus intermeshed with, our personalities.

Not really my style of music but still good

Indie game music, technobabble

interesting sound, interesting atmosphere. I can't give a high rating because I'm not a big expert in this style. But I liked two songs that I listen to in the car and on the player

entendo a importância, mas chato p caralho pelo amor de deus

Well, this was much nicer than the last Kraftwerk album I got. At a few points it came awfully close to sounding like something I’d listen to again.

fine electric album

This is the music C-3PO makes love to. At least there’s melodies.

It's not a favorite genre.

well,,, You gotta like Kraftwerk to listen to this and enjoy. I am... eh. The hit "The Model"... did not impress

Boring and repetitive. Almost quit right away

Just no. 1.5

Ive never been a big electronic music person (until pretty recently at least). I tried to like this album but it just didn't really vibe with me at all. :(

Well, it's really not my thing, and it probably won't be. I get that it was a revolutionary work in its time, but listening to it, I was at best interested in its place in music history, not impressed at all. For me it was too simple and repetitive throughout, lacking nuance. I don't listen to a lot of electronic music (or synthpop), but I've heard similar things that I liked much better.

Surprised to find myself bopping to the boops here and there. Not impressed overall though.

not really my genre

Cool movie but I got nothing out of this as an album

While the nostalgia was omnipresent, I could not ignore how "8-bit" it sounded and thus, not as enjoyable. We've been spoiled!

Boring

Overrated euro noise. Unique and mildly interesting at the time, now sounds dated and simplistic.

I really like electronic music, so a lot of my favorite artists owe Kraftwerk something. The historical and cultural significance of this bands discography can't be denied. Unfortunately, this album was a slog to get through. Even at 36 minutes, it drags. It's not just that it's slow and repetitive, the constant inclusion of downright aggravating noises is something I can't get behind. Maybe I'm just not in the mood this morning, but this wasn't doing it for me. For slower and repetitive electronic music, I'd rather listen to Aphex Twin.

Kinda not a fan of music that is just weird noise. Some of it is nice weird noise, but I’m just not sure I’m sold on it. Neon Lights was a nice amount of plinky-plonky but it dragged on a bit. More of a 2.5 probably.

synthesizers-robotic voices-poppy melodies-endless droning. Guess you had to be there. in fairness...they were different/unique to that extent this LP (and on a larger level) Kraftwerk have a place in music history. Not exactly music to get excited about tho imho

Can see the influence this album had on rock/electronic music. Good album, but can be very slow at times

I wavered back and forth between thinking I might like it and being tired of it. Ultimately, the latter feeling prevailed.

Bleep bleep boop. Boop boop bleep bleep. Lather, rinse, repeat.

sono sicuramente io il problema, ma la musica elettronica non solo non mi dice niente, ma mi indispone pure. mi dispiace, volevo tanto che mi piacesse.

While I'm certain I will never listen to this record again, it is interesting and engaging. Krautrock isn't really my thing, I feel like I'm in the German porno "Logjammin" from The Big Lebowski when I listen to this stuff. I do appreciate the ambition and musicality. Some of the vocals reminded me of Lou Reed.

Album was okay. Not really my thing, and again listening to electronic music casually at home just doesn't do it for me. 2/5 Probably won't listen again

I actually got bored of that pretty quickly

First listen : interesting and quirky. Second listen (with Henry, who has some experience listening to them): what the hell?! I’ve heard these guys described as the forerunners of all electronic music, as the ‘next Beatles’ (really!), compared to the Beach Boys, as the cutting edge of the future of pop. To me, they sound like the AV squad at a 1970s high school got their hands on a Vic 20 and programmed the soundtrack to the drama club production of “I Love my Calculator!” while everyone else was drinking before the Friday night school dance.

Otravné

Too robot-ish for my taste.

Having listened to a handful of these older electronic music albums, they suffer from the same problem. They develop some unique instrumentation, but they are just bland and repetitive. I’m glad they’re the stepping stones for the genre and others to come. But I just can’t see myself coming back to this.

Interesting to hear such early synth pop, can definitely see the influence it had on bands like Joywave who I listen to now. The lyrics were too repetitive for my taste, but the beats are cool.

I’d tap my toe to it in a waiting room.

Why? Please make it stop.

Ezt hogy tudják emberek élvezni (Igen, RÁD NÉZEK)

**An ok album - mostly sounds and noises

Interesting but will never listen to again

Can see how this would have been super influential and innovative for the time. Just sounds like a generic ringtone that's been auto-installed on your phone now.

Very unique album at least in comparison to the rest of the ones in the book, for an artist that was rejected 6 times before finally getting accepted into the rock and roll hall of fame I’d have expected more variety and well Rock and Roll. But that being said I cannot rate this higher than a 3; heck, I’d only realistically give it a 2/5 as out of the 6 songs in the album there was only one that truly stood out as a good song (The model).

Not my cup of tea

Not for me, but I can appreciate the value of this album. Some of the sound is really cool, I liked The Model, but I'm not sure where I would ever listen to this of my own accord.

Pretty decent, better than i expected.

basta de electrónicaAAAA

Not for me

Honestly, I don't know how to rate this one. There isn't really anything that I would listen to again. It was interesting, but rather repetitive - or maybe I missed the point.

We've heard worse, but I won't be listening to this one again.

Didn’t hate it, but didn’t love it.

This reminded me of the futuristic music they play at EPCOT and the World of Tomorrow.

This sounds like the background music from TRON - interesting for what it is but not something I am going to sit and actively listen to.

i just find this really depressing but it’s better than the other one i heard

really not my thing. but pretty cool to see how influential this is on current like techno music. would not listen to any of these songs again though

Pre-listening thoughts: I learned a little about Kraftwerk in my Making Music with Computers class. We learned they were super influential on electronic, dance, club, and even hip hop music. Electronic and EDM is usually not up my alley at all so we’ll see how much I enjoy this lol. Post/during listening thoughts: this is daft punk lite lol. It’s like ok but yeah electronic music isn’t really for me. I don’t dislike it but I wouldn’t go back for more 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: nah but I understand why it’s influential Fav tracks: The Model Least fav tracks: idk I am so beyond neutral on this I can’t even say what stood out poorly

Quirky

A bit strange—felt a bit like listening to an Atari game soundtrack at times. I swear the opening noise on the second song is the sound after Pac-Man eats the power pellet and is chasing the ghosts. But I strangely didn’t hate the album. Didn’t love it either—will probably not listen to it again—but I’ve heard worse. On this list.

i understand that this is influential and innovative and important but i do not love it, i appreciate it though! the best track is neon lights 2/5 maybe a 2.5/5

Experimental electronic sounds from the 80s kinda whack but fun

Not for me

2.4 - I know they are super influential, but honestly they really do not age well in my opinion. The song structure is soooooo repetitive and doesn't build into anything. Just not for me

Kinda mid but interesting

Weep woop woop 🤖🤖🤖 Despite what hunter said i rly like Spacelab and metropolis but yeah the rest of it especially the vocal tracks just aint it for me

Fine background music. 2/5

The Model is a classic but the rest of the album is average

This entire album sounds like someone's first session with a new synth VST just playing around with all the presets.

Have heard it. Not relistening as I think it’s genuinely overrated and boring.

Seems pioneering given the release. Electronica is just not for me

Please God enough with the Kraftwerk albums this is the third one and I definitely could’ve died without hearing each of them

Bit cold for me

R2D2's favourite

I'm glad this appeals to some because its good that there is music that is different out there. Doesn't appeal to me though.

Forefathers of everything from krautrock, daft punk and superhans one can imagine this bring played on a loop non stop at the Boston dynamics research centre just before skynet achieves sentience. I don’t doubt the amount of hard work, effort and innovation. That went into forging such an album but the Japanese had crammed it all into my sisters Casio a mere 3 years later. Document of its time but novelty value alone would not make me revisit. Must have been great in the day though.

Is this what music will sound like when the robots take over? The humans that survive will do so by becoming man-machines - cyborgs that try to adapt human culture to please our robot overlords. Bumping this by one star because the whole thing didn’t sound like the opener, “Robots.” If there had been any more of that, I would just give up and succumb to the robopocalypse.

Why do they ruin perfectly fine tracks like Spacelab with what sounds like a game of laser tag. They get an extra star because it was better than Autobahn.
