Great debut album. Grungy sound. Not as poppy as later albums

Genre: Alternative Rock 4/5 A hugely enjoyable, almost Power Pop-esque onslaught of tracks, Dave Grohl’s one-man-band debut effort was a huge step forward in the post-grunge, alt-rock scene. Dave Grohl is no technical craftsman, but the melodies and production throughout this thing are much better than demo quality, and lay the foundation for his later solo work quite well. The whole album is full of great riffs, great drumming, and great lead vocals from Grohl. While none of these songs endure today as classics, cuts This Is a Call, Big Me, and Weenie Beenie are perfect glimpses into the future of not just the Foo Fighters, but acts like Green Day and Third Eye Blind, who are just a couple of bands that owe a debt to this project. Good shit all around.

Look up 'generic' in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of the Foo Fighters. Grohl seems like a good dude so I want to like them, but they are just meh.

dave fucking grohl. what a weapon. he's the type of guy that would give himself the tagline of nicest guy in rock. i still to this day can't understand why no one has noticed that he's just really american. stick a tv camera in front of most americans and they instantly know how to do an interview and be generally nice and positive. now he's got the nickname its part of his sales pitch and self preservation to ham it up. i've got his number though, i can see through it. he's just a straight up bell end. he worked out the formula for generic rock and has churned out the same shit ever since. he's the american Bono. this is my impression of a foo fighter song. gonna sing some quiet now gonna sing some quiet. shout, shout, shouty shout shout shout. heeeyyyy. i bet you did that in his voice. this album is as good as it ever got for them. i could probably have listened to it all the way through if there was a diferent singer but i just can't fucking stand his voice.

Can't say I've ever listened to a Foo Fighters album. Can't be as bad as they are live, but that's not down to the music, it's just the fact that Dave Grohl talks for 95% of the set. They play about 1 song every 4 hours. This was better than expected actually. Good for them.

Pretty decent slacker, pop, rock, quiet, loud, quiet, loud, melodic, shouty, melodic, shouty, whatever. I just wish they'd knocked it on the head after this album rather than continuing to write the same album over and over again with ever diminishing returns for the rest of eternity.

It was fine I guess? Surprisingly bland for the debut album of such a massively succesful band. Not terrible, but really all blended together into one mush.

Amazing!!

It's one of their rawer albums, but that does not make it one of their better. You clearly hear the mid 90's sound, but, as with a lot of Foo Fighter albums, you have 2 amazing songs, 2 good and the rest barely average.

This is the debut album from the Foo Fighters. Interestingly, I learned that Dave Grohl wrote and recorded every song on this album. He then came up with the name 'Foo Fighters' to hide his identity from the project, but after a lot of interest in it, he created a band to go along with the name. The album was successful even before release, as tapes Dave Grohl handed out got around to record labels and radio stations. Praised for having great songwriting, and easy-to-jam-to riffs, this album went on to being the Foo Fighters second best-selling and is certified platinum.

Un magnifique album de la part d'un Dave Grohl à l'acmé de sa dépression. Le musicien nous y raconte sa période de deuil suite à la mort de son copain Kurt Cobain. Dès les premiers morceaux, Dave se réveille vers les coups de midi, traîne les pieds jusqu'à son canapé sans quitter ses survêtements. Il regarde différentes séries sur son ordinateur et s'effondre en larmes au moindre passage émotionnel. Un court interlude nous présente à mi-album le protagoniste en train de se gratter la barbe négligée qu'il arbore sur le menton. La deuxième partie du disque n'est pas plus optimiste. On accompagne en effet l'ancien membre de Nirvana dans une épicerie où celui-ci s'en va acheter la quantité d'un chariot de Pasta BOX Sodebo afin de lui éviter de cuisiner. Il rentre ensuite chez lui et réchauffe l'une d'entre elles cinq minutes et trente secondes au micro-ondes à 850 Watts. L'album s'abrège sur le "kling" de la minuterie.

Aujourd'hui, nous découvrions enfin l'album du traître absolu, le Judas de la grunge, j'ai nommé Dave Grohl. Ce dernier, ancien batteur du groupe Nirvana, a en effet pris le temps de bien copier sur son petit camarade de classe Kurt, afin de lui subtiliser absolument tout son style musical, et de le recracher dans un album sans aucune originalité. Dave Grohl va même plus loin dans le plagiat: il se permet en effet de reproduire des scènes de la vie courante du groupe Nirvana, s'étant déroulées dans l'intimité du studio d'enregistrement. Cela atteint même le ridicule, quand sur la fin de l'album, Dave Grohl reproduit le rituel de son camarade Kurt, en enfournant une boite de Pastabox dans le micro-ondes. Ceci n'a evidemment rien à faire dans un album de grunge, mais il semblerait que Dave Grohl se soit quelque peu perdu dans sa tentative desespérée de sauver son année scolaire de terminale grunge. J'ai tout simplement adoré cet album, je lui accorde donc la note de 4/5

Eipä ole tätä levyä tullut juurikaan kuunneltua aiemmin, vaikka bändistä kovasti tykkäänkin. Aika hurjaa, että tämä lätty on julkaistu vain reilu vuosi Cobainin itsemurhan jälkeen. Levy kuulostaa ihan Foo Fightersiltä, hyvin on tyyli säilynyt vuosien saatossa. Ei varsinaisesti hittibiisejä, mutta tasaista suorittamista alusta loppuun.

Foo Fightersin toiseksi paras levy, jolla bändi vielä vähän hakee suuntaansa. Osa biiseistä kuulostaa ihan Foo Fightersilta, mutta selvästi myös Nirvana-taustaa on haluttu tuoda esille joidenkin kappaleiden sovituksissa. Vaikken ole koskaan oikein Foo Fightersille täysillä syttynytkään niin onhan tämä ihan mukavaa rokkimeininkiä. Paitsi levyn paras kappale Big Me joka on mukavaa poppimeininkiä. 3,5, joka nousee neloseksi.

Foo fighters by numbers ok but not greet

Ugh, I remember when this album was released. I'd only just got on the internet, so tracking down the lyrics to this album was literally one of the first things I did. As a result, the lyrics have never stood out as being a strength. A lot of them seem like filler, something for Grohl to yell. There are a lot of really good tracks on the album though, and it is remarkable that Dave Grohl could debut with this one-man-band project after years as the drummer of an iconic grunge band. I don't think it's the Foo Fighters' best album though and there's a lot to be said for how they developed in later years. (At least The Colour and the Shape is better!)

Something about this band’s music will always be very plain, stale and lifeless, and sometimes boring, no matter how important they are for keeping alive rock traditions and great live performances. They don’t excel at any style of rock, whether it be grunge, punk, or classic rock. I just can’t feel anything. The legacy of Grohl always made them bigger than their actual songs.

I thought I would enjoy this one, but about 10 mins in I gave up on it, I just found it unimaginative and kinda dull

It's clear that this is Foo Fighters first album because while there are glimpses of the sound that the band would one day embrace, it mostly feels like an impression of Nirvana. This is fine for a debut album as Dave found his footing and the later albums feel much more original, so I'd say this is a solid debut album. Fav song: This is a call

The 90s were like this....edgy with a decent back beat. Today was not a 90s day.

Not their best album (that would be The Colour and the Shape) but the first and the one that got me in to the Foos. The lyrics are pretty obscure and you can tell from the way the vocals are mixed that Dave is not used to being the front man yet.

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this album when it came out.

It's Foo Fighters. You get what it says on the tin. Never really felt strongly about Foo Fighters and this album didn't change my mind. It's perfectly good rock music.

This was very good, and I really liked the first song. I'm not a huge Foo Fighters fan, but this was a little more stripped down/developing, which was good.

Classic, grungy, quality.

About half is excellent and the rest ok, so 3 out 5 overall. Great band in concert and a first class front man and all round top bloke.

Look up rock n roll in the dictionary and this album appears. Just a great rock album.

I honestly admire this album more than I enjoy it, and it's a decent one. When you're in the most famous band in the world at the time and the singer dies, it would be extremely hard to replicate any of that success. This album wouldn't have been easy to make or promote in these circumstances, but Dave Grohl did anyway. It's not their best album and can really only enjoy half of the songs, but for an album recorded by one musician, its hard to beat. The album is raw and vulnerable, which in turn makes it a really interesting experience. Songs like I Stick Around and Alone and Easy Target where you can hear Grohl's anger and the loud guitars speaks so much. And while I'm more of a Nirvana fan, the variety between the softer songs like Big Me and For The Cows with the heavy shit is most welcome. I've always considered this not as a Foo Fighters album, but a stepping stone between that and Nirvana. The Foos turned into a different animal after this, unique concepts with their albums, but the results are pretty bland (with the exception of The Colour and The Shape). It's healthier they turned out this way and they have some great hits (Pretender, Learning to Fly) and lots of mainstream success, but sometimes I wish they could make another album that's not by the numbers rock and speaks to the heart like this does.

Forever fighting foo.

Hard to believe this came out just a year after Kurt passed. Album starts strong but kind of trails off.

Oh god. Foo Fighters are not a good band. Foo Fighters are a band with zero personality, just like Dave Grohl himself. It's lowest common denominator, paint-by-numbers rock that fits together elements of every style of alt rock around it so that it can function as the perfect segue between any two songs on a radio station, and that's exactly what they've been doing for 25 years. I used to lump Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam in together, but having been forced to listen to a Pearl Jam album during this project, I can conclude that Pearl Jam have a level of production, songwriting, and dynamics not present whatsoever in Foo Fighters. I still don't like Pearl Jam, but they are significantly better than this. Foo Fighters are muzak with crunchy guitars. If the 90s alternative scene was the crisper drawer in your refrigerator and the many talented, original bands were the variety of vegetables you have, Foo Fighters would be the pooling liquid at the bottom from the various bits of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and mushrooms that have gone bad in the back. Ugh. This isn't the worst album generated by the list so far... but it's probably in the bottom five.

The first three songs are classics. The rest wasn't quite as good.

It's allright but not for me. Perhaps the best song is "This is a call".

Foo Fighters has always been a band where I have liked their "hits," but the album tracks have not really "hit" me. "Rope," from "Wasting Light", is a great example of this. So the 4 or 5 hits off of their first album are great, the "wheat," but the "chaff," the b-sides and the album tracks, are... well, there's a reason why they are not hits. I probably should stick to their "hits," I guess. But their "hits" are really damn good. The Nirvana influence is really worn close to the vest here, but Grohl as a musician has evolved a lot. But this really started him off.

Definitely one of my favorite bands from the grunge & post-grunge era, but not their best work (I'm waiting for The Colour and the Shape or In Your Honor). Still, this was pretty much just Dave Grohl playing all instruments with one buddy helping produce it. The band formed after this album. So pretty damn impressive for a solo project, even if it has some Nirvana feel. Like Nirvana did, Grohl fills your ears with a lot of noise from only a few instruments - not overly complex but well arranged and with ferocity. Makes up for some of the unevenness of the album. Most people know the first 3 tracks (all great) but I also really like the lesser knowns Alone + Easy Target, Floaty, and Wattershed. Probably a 3.5 but I'll round up.

There are some bands and musicians that I highly respect although there's no emotional connection with the music for me. The Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl are a good example of that. For me it's just average but I'm sure that I'm in the minority here.

I don't know why - I always like Foo Fighters when I hear them, but they never grab me enough where I want to listen deeper or seek them out. That leaves me at a 3 - good album but nothing I'd go out of my way to listen to - but I feel like I should like it more.

I really enjoyed this album (especially second time through). I don't usually let the story of the album dictate whether I like it or not, but this really does feel like an amazing heretofore hidden talent going into the studio and working out, "What shall 90s music be?" and then influencing (or reflecting?) so much of what came after. I'd never taken much time to explore Foo Fighters or Dave Grohl's story before and how he was exploring himself as a musician post-Nirvana, but I felt it in this album. I did think that something had gone terribly wrong with my wireless headphones when "Exhausted" came on. With that, I can't say that there were no "misses" on these experimentations, but all in all I liked this album very much.

I don't love every song on this record, but the ones I love, I love an awful lot. These are hard rock songs with singable and often beautiful melodies. I'll Stick Around and For All the Cows are two of my favorite FF songs. I also like Good Grief, Floaty, and This is a Call. Before today, I'd never heard how this album was recorded and now my mind is blown. This is all just Dave? Whoa.

I like the Foo Fighters and had heard some of these songs before. Hadn’t listened to the album in its entirety though. Some bands of this era/style I have listened to seem very monotonous when listened to as a full album. Didn’t feel like that for this album. “This Is a Call” is a great start to the album. “I’ll Stick Around” has that smooth Grohl vocal performance I like best with the Foo Fighters. “Big Me” softens things up a bit. I’ve always liked this song, and I think hearing it in the context of the album improves it even more. Other standout tracks for me include “Good Grief” which feels like a pretty raw emotional response to turmoil and change. “Floaty” is haunting in the simplicity of its lyrics. I very much enjoyed "For All The Cows" both musically and lyrically. "Wattershed" sort of jumped out at me and made me take notice. Great song and lyrics, some pretty interesting tempo changes. "Exhausted" summed up the last few years for me. One of my favorite songs on this album. I love the line 'What if the day had stayed in bed?' Great ending. This album's pacing and variability required a lot of versatility to make. I enjoyed taking this journey even more after the second listen. I don’t know why I’d never listened to this back in the day but glad to have gotten it in before I die.

Turns out I never listened to this one all the way through before. It's very lo-fi! Can hear Nirvana and future Foos in different places. Particularly enjoyed the combo of Good Grief and Floaty in the middle. I'd rate it a 3.5 if I could but these are the greatest albums of ALL TIME were talking about so I'm marking harsh.

8th September 2021 Caught up on this the day after in the gym. Really like how this was Grohl's therapy for the nirvana break up. Sounds like.

Solid rock album for the birth of one of the best alternative rock groups. There are some signs of the nirvana sound before they really hit their stride with the hits. This album was all rock which makes it strong and different from other bands from the 90s. 7.7/10

I feel Foo Fighters should be right up my alley, but they just... aren't.

3.4 - This came out about a year after Cobain's death. I liked a few tracks I listened to then, and I like it well enough now. Foo Fighters is OK in my book. Dave Grohl seems like a cool dude. It's a neutral-positive for me.

I can remember vividly how as a middle school kid in America around the turn of the century, aided by P2P file sharing services like Napster and Limewire, I began to turn away from listening to music that was in the top 40/on Total Request Live and towards “alternative” bands, an important step in my evolution as a music listener. One part of that was picking up both this album and “The Colour and the Shape” off of the strength of songs like “Big Me”, “Everlong” and “My Hero” and their oftentimes hilarious and memorable music videos (the first is especially worth checking out on YouTube as it’s a parody of the cheesy 90’s Mentos ads that still holds up). However, I remember being disappointed with both albums that the material beyond their singles wasn’t particularly good or noteworthy. Neither of them got multiple listens or became beloved by my early teen self as records like Blur’s “Parklife” or Radiohead’s “The Bends” & “OK Computer” did. Re-listening to “Foo Fighters” a couple of decades later, my feelings around it haven’t changed - the first three songs are 75% of the singles released from the album, so the remainder of it is a real slog. Reading about the background and recording of this is especially illuminating - it was recorded in a week, Grohl played all of the instruments, the name “Foo Fighters” was picked to hide Grohl’s identity, cassette copies of the sessions were initially limited to his close friends, and most of the lyrics were nonsensical lines Grohl wrote twenty minutes before recording began. In Grohl’s own words “The first Foo Fighters record was not meant to be an album, it was an experiment and for fun. I was just f***ing around. Some of the lyrics weren’t even real words.” At the end of the day, the inclusion of this album in a “1,001 Albums You Must Listen to Before You Die” list feels superfluous and redundant - though I haven’t reached My Bloody Valentine’s “Loveless” yet, I’ve no doubt it’s in the book. And after all, if I’m going to listen to a 90’s alternative album with nonsensical lyrics, wouldn’t that be the one to go with?

The top songs from this album are kinda mid. just skip the first 3 songs and the rest are decent. reminds me of music people listen to when they say they hate todays music.

How can you not love the Foo's This album coming out a year after the loss of KC and essentially being a solo effort is incredible.

It costs to three stars on nostalgia alone. Dave Grohl may be the nicest guy in rock, but bless me, I've never found the Foos to be anything more than the most generic of modern stadium rock acts. Wouldn't turn 'em off if they came on the radio, but nor would I ever make a single positive move towards listening to their music. Except, I guess, thanks to this app.

Siiiiiigh… I don’t begrudge Dave Grohl for becoming a rock God, but this album makes me so nostalgic in all the saddest ways. I love this thing. Yes, I know “Everlong” exists, but song-for-song this entire album is everything I’ve ever wanted this band to be from the word go, and a totally painful reminder of how bland they’ve become. I saw them play Raleigh on this tour and it was a fucking blast. Still had William on drums. Grohl was still skinny with his stringy, long greasy-as-a-used-skillet hair. He didn’t talk to the crowd like he was trying to be Paul Stanley. It was just… the best. I used to play these songs on guitar so, so much, my dudes. And that cover art! I mean, it’s basically Han Solo’s gun!! X-Static (not Static-X) for life.

1st album 1st day. I've already listened to the Foo Fighters so I give this album 10/10.

1st song; This is a Call...great song. No momentum lost with next song. Weenie Beenie is weak 2nd half of album weaker than the first. A couple almost generic metal songs that I didn't like. I like the album closer I'll give the album 3 stars though really 3.5

New to me, but the Foo Fighters are always welcome :D Starts off very rocky. Songs seem to seamlessly blend into one another.

This is very rock. Nothing I'd listen to today. Trying to listen to it in the context of coming out one year after Kurt died. Big Me bringing the nostalgia big time. :) Like I wonder if Nirvana fans were like "....wut...." the first time they listened to this. By Wattershed I was ready to stop listening to this album.

Astounding that this was done almost entirely solo by Grohl, and really shows how instrumental he was to 90s rock. Not only was he drummer of the most iconic band in grunge, but shows he is a multi-instrumentalist and a class act songwriter.

признаться, изначально настроение у меня вчера было максимально хмурное, и настроя слушать уебанские завывания дейва грола не было никакого. по сути фу файтерс у меня всегда ассоциировались с мерзким модерновым корпорат-роком: беззубым, безыдейным и паразитирующим на славе почившего кобейна. не то чтобы это совсем не так, но одноименник в этом плане меня весьма удивил. звучание оказалось довольно гаражным, имбалансным, не было замечено унылой вылизанности. это произвело эффект настолько сильный, что я даже отбросил иррациональный хейт фуфиков и-таки заставил себя послушать до конца. Конечно, ничего интересного услышать не получилось — песни все по лекалам Кобейна, но без харизмы, подачи, голоса, да и интересных гитарных решений, будем честны. Барабаны зато ебашат — дай боже (в плане громкости). В целом, думаю, находится люд, которому это зайдёт, но никаких новых идей (или даже нестандартного развития старых) здесь найти не удастся. Особенно пропасть в качестве замечаешь, когда сравниваешь с вышедшим за два года до этой пластинки In Utero. С чистой душой могу отметить только заключительную песню — балдежные гитарные шумовки, уютная атмосфера, не сильно напрягающий вокал. Похоже на что-то вроде Dinosaur Jr даже. В остальном — meh, единицы не заслуживает, конечно, но, с учетом компенсации за предвзятость к Гролу, больше тройки поставить рука не поднимется. 3/5

Прослушал 3 раза. Местами вроде бы приятно, местами - вырвиушно-коммерческо. Exhausted зашла. Не знаю, так ли сильно эта шляпа повлияла на всю постгранжевую погань, что дальше повылезала, но тут особых черт разложения не прослеживается. Хотя фронтмен лучше бы и согласился барабанить у Данцига, мб вместе что-нибудь интереснее заебенили. В общем, нормальный альбом, но слушать группу я, конечно, не буду. Обложка - хуета. Запись выполнена идеально, остаётся только желать такого звука отечественным подражателям fashionpleasure (local meme)

Repetitive and samey

Very fun rock record, showing Dave Grohl step out of Kurt’s shadow less than a year after his death and come out with a sound that was his own. Earns its way to 4 stars as Dave Grohl being a one man band for the whole record. I still think some of their later stuff like The Colour and the Shape or Wasting Light has stronger songwriting, however.

Rock. Like The Suburbs but less chill and not as good.

Good in parts and a pretty easy listen from start to finish. But overall a bit bland and mostly forgettable.

I like the sound; 3 really good songs in the first 9. At least a 3, maybe a 4/5. I think it's only a 3. Nothing else that got me excited other than those 3 songs.

This isn't my favorite Foo Fighters album or even their best (maybe second or third next to color and shape and nothing left to lose), but it's an awesome album that I really love.

Well I was excited about this one and it was a good start, less shouty but I’d rather have a greatest hits to score 4*. Consequently it’s a high 3* !

I love, love, love this album. It's easily the most raw and unpolished in the catalog, but that's precisely what makes it amazing. It's just Dave Grohl, grieving over Kurt Cobain, getting it all out of his system. Alone. Can't be topped in my book.

Solid album, but missing a bit of polish. Needs another solid song or two or maybe even a remaster would do it. Everlong came on right after the album and it shows how good Foo Fighters can be. 3.5 but rounding down

Dave Grohl is a musical genius and all around good guy! I liked this album - very good rock n roll music. A few radio hits that are very familiar, and the rest get the job done, but not my go to music. 3.5 stars, but rounding up for the cool factor, and memories of the one Foo show I attended where they blew me away with one of the best live performances I’ve seen.

I enjoy Foo Fighters. This isn't really my preferred genre of music, so I'm sure I don't enjoy/appreciate this album as much as others. With that said I love the nostalgic 90's sound. And I love the grungy rock vibes throughout. Favorite track is Big Me

I enjoyed listening to this album, I liked it, although I get the feeling that the majority of the songs are the same. You can feel the Kurt Cobain vibe but without him it is just not the same.

I do like Foo Fighters in small doses, their sound gets a little repetitive for me by the end of the album. That might be more Ghrol's singing than the band, I really like the drummer. I like the band though and enjoyed my time with this album more than most so far on this journey.

Really got a kick out of this! When I was younger i actually liked the Foo Fighters a lot more than Nirvana. Love Grohl and his sound. So cool that this was essentially a solo project he re-labeled so it wouldn't just get big off post-nirvana name recognition. || Listened to a lot of other Foo, but never much of this album - lots of deep cuts with a heavy, distorted grunge that I can get behind. Good work, Dave.

Oh, early Foo! I remember picking this album up at Karma records on Indiana in 1995 when I visited IU as a high school senior. As a big Nirvana kid, I had read that Dave Grohl was spinning up a new band. He'd sung one Nirvana song that had surfaced at the time- Marigold. I didn't know what to expect, but when I spun that CD for the first time I knew it was good. They didn't really get a ton of love until their second album and this first one gets discarded at times in the great Foo pantheon, so I'm glad it made the cut. Props to Grohl for playing all the instruments on this (because the band didn't technically exist when he recorded).

For a one-man project, not all that bad. But the songs can be a bit repetitively grungy - and because some were written during a time Nirvana still existed, you can’t help but wonder if they were supposed to BE for Nirvana. In my head I had it that I didn't particularly like the first Foo Fighters album, but that's completely wrong - I've _loved_ this re-listen! Fantastic alt rock, and I dig both the upbeat blasting tracks, and the slowed down mournful introspective ones. Fave track - "Good Grief", maybe? Could easily pick 5 or 6 more that would get the title....

Not bad, didn't do much for me though, nothing particularly noteworthy. Wouldn't listen again.

2 | Mejor de lo que esperaba, creo puedo decir es el mejor disco de los Foo Fighters. Desafortunadamente esto no lo hace un gran disco. Es un disco que trata a gritos decir "No somos Nirvana" pero las mejores partes que se le rescatan de hecho son las que más suenan a lo que hizo con Cobain (básicamente las canciones Weenie Baby, X-Static, Wattershed, junto con el coro de I'll Stick Around), y si habiendo sido parte de Nirvana, lo mejor que puedes hacer suena a imitación mediocre de Nirvana... no habla muy bien. Mientras escuchaba y reflexionaba sobre Dave Grohl y su lugar en la música llegué a un par de conclusiones. La primera es que creo es famoso por ser el único grupo que hoy en día se le puede llamar "Rock" que sigue vivo; que tocan rock rock y nada más, sin complicaciones, sin ser agresivo, con un frontman muy "everyday man." Lo cuál me llevo a mi segunda revelación que es entender que Dave Grohl... es el Adam Sandler del rock. Los dos tienen, en mi opinión, mucho talento (el standup de Sandler y la capacidad de baterista de Grohl son innegables), los dos son, por todo lo que he visto de ellos, muy buenas personas (se preocupan un chingo por sus familias y son su prioridad, tratan a sus fans como pocos, tratan muy bien a todo su equipo y sus empleados), los dos son personas que creo admiro y me caerían muy bien, cuya obra principal y trabajo es tremendamente mediocre, apelando al mas bajo denominador lo cual los hizo tremendamente populares. Los dos ofrecen películas/discos blandos, sin chiste, que siempre son/suenan iguales, aburridos, mecánicos y sin vida. Podrían hacer cosas muchísimo mejores pero no tienen necesidad... y supongo tampoco los puedo culpar, igual con los dos sería pocamadre tomarse una cerveza. Es una banda que existe para ser escuchada en la estación de rock adulto contemporaneo como fondo indistinto y lo mejor que puedo decir de ellos es que sus videos eran buenos y mostraban buen humor (cimentando que Grohl es buena gente y llevadero). Con tumbos este disco subió hasta dos estrellas porque las canciones que mencioné me parecen medio rescatables y es, en efecto, el mejor disco que he les he escuchado.

Primero lo primero, algunos riffs sí suenan a Nirvana y algunas veces las guitarras me recordaron a los Pixies. Listo. La verdad me parece bastante bueno y para ser un disco escrito y tocado completo por la misma persona, me parece un resultado excelente. No todas las canciones son grandiosas pero es un gran ensayo de cómo sonará la banda en albums venideros. 3.5 estrellas porque no me puedo relacionar con las letras y no me parecen sobresalientes. Lo puedo volver a escuchar sin problemas. ¿I'll Stick Around se la habrá compuesto a Cobain? Songs: Alone + Easy Target, Oh, George, For All The Cows

Este disco definitivamente suena a Foo Fighters (duhh!!). No sabría describirlo, pero definitivamente tienen un sonido distintivo. El disco está "bien" a secas. Imagino por la fecha que fue uno de los primeros grupos en el género de "grunge", y aunque los he visto en vivo, honestamente creo que tienen más fama de la que realmente merecen. Tienen unas cuantas canciones (muy) pegajosas, pero ninguna de ellas viene en este disco. Del disco, me agradó la canción "Floaty". Me pareció la que tenía el beat más original y agradable.

Aburrido y plano. Mi tema con Dave Grohl es una cosa y es más culpa de cómo hablan los medios de él y cómo lo endiosan sus fans. Pero dejando de lado mi opinión de él, este disco de todos modos no me gusta. Las tonadas son planas y él todo el tiempo canta a su máximo como si estuviera inspirando a alguien en el último de un maratón y no hay matices, cambios de intensidad ni nada. Supongo que por eso es un éxito en vivo, porque todas las canciones suenan como diseñadas para “el concierto de tu vida”. La batería se me hace muy buena aunque igual todo el tiempo atascada en los platillos.

Dass Dave Grohl songschreiberisch im übergroßen Schatten von Kurt Cobain steht, sollte bereits mit diesem Album klar geworden sein. Darin bedient er sich dessen harmonischen Vokabulars und auch aller gängigen Rock-Klischees seit den Beatles. Das ist nicht so wenig unterhaltsam, wie ich es mir vorgestellt hatte, ändert aber meine bisherige Meinung zu Dave Grohl und den Foo Fighters nicht im geringsten. In der Tat denkt man sich bei einigen Songs: das habe ich doch von Nirvana auch schon mal so gehört - nur halt origineller. Im englischen Sprachraum werden die Foo Fighters schon seit mehr als 10 Jahren mal gehässig, mal weniger wertend zur bloßen Einordnung als „generisch” bezeichnet, letzterer Kategorisierung kann ich mich vollumfänglich anschließen.

Never would have listened to this album if not for the 1001 Albums. Not exactly my taste but a good album nonetheless

Glad I’m relistening to it. I’ve always enjoyed the later Foos albums and was never huge into this one, so it’s cool to revisit it. Forgot how killer some of the riffs are on this one. The songs are all unique and diverse but still pretty killer. Lyrics aren’t the best or most powerful. Some duds but who cares, it’s the Foos

I've mostly listened to the singles from this record before, glad I sat down and listened to it. Love the emo influences on here (wonder if there are any Jawbreaker records on this list?). Makes sense he would take some members of Sunny Day Real Estate for the next record. I enjoy the grittiness of this, especially seeing how polished the future records would become. Foos also put on a hell of a show. Favorite Tracks: "Good Grief", "Big Me", "For All the Cows"

I'm a massive Nirvana fan. This record is okay. Something was lost with Kurt that I don't expect Grohl to be able to replace. This isn't really the Foo Fighters as we know them today, it's just Dave Grohl playing all the parts, and for that reason it's a hell of a lot better than the saccharine arena rock they play in 2021. Just solid tunes with an occasionally raw aesthetic to them.

The idea of trudging forward in the face of tragedy was a new concept for Dave Grohl. Having been plunged to the darkest depths of the bottom, he had to figure out to cast a light and find a way back to the top. Fortunately for him, and for us listeners, he'd been preparing for some time. Foo Fighters, from cassette demo tape to wacky music videos and beyond, provided a path for Grohl to reach as the one man band turned into a full fledged outfit that would endure and endear to this day. Who would have thought that, after a most unfortunate start, that he'd stick around? Favorites: This is a Call, I'll Stick Around, Big Me, Alone + Easy Target, Good Grief, Floaty, For All the Cows, X-Static.

Surprisingly very good. Only listened once, so the ones that were more obviously melodic grabbed me more.

nirvana without any charisma

I always thought of Foo Fighters as a singles band, this is the first full album of theirs that Ive listened to. The best live show I ever saw was Foo Fighters, so it was nice to listen to one of their albums now. Gets a bit repetitive later on, but lots of cool songs. Closer to a 3.5
