Reviews (page 14 of 14)

Listen. I didn’t expect to love this album. Haven’t been much a fan of Paul since I became an adult. However, I also didn’t expect that I would entirely dislike it. The dude is a schlock factory! Does he have any emotional depth? Beyond the title track, there is nothing of interest here. No intrigue whatsoever. Some of this is downright goofy. It’s love song after love song, with a few nonsensical narratives peppered in. A prime example of how it’s actually possible for one to ride one’s own coattails.

Ga meg ikkje så masse

Very Slow Rock. Fahrstuhlmusik?

It was a struggle to get through this. I think the hits are still hits, but I won't be returning.

Really enjoy McCartney's bass playing, but the songs on this record, well, bore me. I'm okay with "Band on the Run" and "Jet," but the rest just recedes into the background for me (with the possible exception of the more upbeat "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five").

bluebird you will never be blackbird

this album has 2 very good songs but the problem is even on one of the very good songs you have to sit through half of a boring song before the good part starts.

Unfortunately refused to finish... Sorry Paul

meh. not a big "wings" fan. Here're the neat things I learned on wikipedia: they recorded part of this in Lagos, Nigeria. Paul wanted to record it somewhere exotic. He got held up at knifepoint. Lost a bunch of demos and lyrics. Went back to England. Two dudes quit the band before he left for Lagos, so Paul filled in their parts.

Paul McCartney doing more Beatles stuff without the Beatles. Best Track: band on the run

Band on the Run (song) is always fun. There were a few decent contenders but overall, it was a little dull. I love Paul so this makes me sad to say lol

day 3 PMC&Wings - Band on the run Track 1 - Classic hit Track 2 - JET - shit Track 3 - Bluebird - Nope. I love birds and this song is too hippie Track 4 - Mrs. Vandebilt - I'm liking it. Good song Track 5 - Let me Roll it - Not bad. Track 6 - Mamunia - recorded well, plesant but just okay. Catchy but that's it Track 7 - No Words - NOPE Track 8 - Picasso's Last Words - meh Track 9 - 1985 - okay. above average

Standard music industry practice. Release a couple of catchy singles, load them at the start of the album and fill the rest with a mish mash of average mixed genre tracks.

did not find anything here, didn't feel it at all

It was no big deal.

2/5 mostly bad, has a number of good tracks

How the fuck it got into this list?? It's boring af

Title Track is awesome…the rest is alright I guess

Inoffensive but bland and boring.

No doubt there are some absolute legendary bangers on here, but as a cohesive album this just doesn't cut it. It feels like a bunch of randomly thrown together songs that Paul McCartney maybe let some other people help with? Idk I don't get the hype.

I never really liked Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles music. It’s insipid. Frankly, the frog chorus was genius compared to this.

Ei ollut yhtään raivostuttava! Hyvin pop-iskelmä, 70-lukua onneksi enemmän kuin 60. Ei ehkä tyhjänpäiväistä, kutsuu vähän keskittymään muttei lopulta onnistu siinä

Band on the Run soi päässä.

Inoffensive, Soft Rock. Good harmonies.

So may breathless reviews of this pretty mediocre album.

Its like if the beatles didnt even try to be interesting or have ideas. The title song is incredible, just great. The rest is just very generic catchy rock that doesnt really say anything

Got less interesting

The title song Band On The Run is pretty good, but the rest of the album feels a bit generic. It definitely feels like we've had enough Beatles songs at this point.

70s pop. Not great. I feel like if Paul McCartney wasn’t involved with this then it would be looked back on as well. Bland.

After the brilliant George Harrison's album "All things must pass" I just can't rate it higher. Or I just don't like Paul.

Catchy sure, but ultimately pretty lame, lyrically. To the point of irritation on some songs (my heart is like a wheel? Mamunia?).

Would this album have been as popular if it weren’t written by a member of The Beatles?

Not my cup of tea. I was a little bored for most of the album. "Band on the run" is catchy though. 2/5

Paul's voice was more prominent than everybody else, mellow lyrics and soothing tempos resembling the Beatles style without showing great innovation.

Meh...

2 Kinda boring

This was... not very good. Band on the Run was great, everything else... not the best.

Not my thing. A bit too old school.

Beatle-based mid-70s soft rock. This album sounds like a Time Warner "AM Radio Gold" collection.

There's like 3 good songs on here :/ non Beatles McCartney is not for me no sirree 👎

Ugh. Ever since I knew this album was in the book, I have dreaded this day. As big of a Beatles and Paul McCartney fan as I am, I loathe the song "Band on the Run." I loathe it so much that when I saw Sir Paul perform it live, I used the opportunity to use the restroom. I felt similarly about the rest of the album, with a couple songs I didn't mind. It makes no logical sense for me to dislike this album and yet here we are. I can only assume there is some unhappy childhood memory baked into hearing my parents listen to this. Pro-tip: blaming your parents for your mysterious quirks and shortcomings always works.

There are the two well known and one slightly less well known radio songs on this album. Other than that, not much to tickle the brain here. I certainly respect McCartney, but probably wouldn't have gone to see him live even with free tickets.

Ugh Credit where credit’s due, Jet is a great single that feels distinct from the Beatles, and Let Me Roll iIt had a good groove. The closer was creative and weird (though it feels completely out of place). The instrumentation, especially the bass, is solid. But boy I am not a huge fan of this album. Band on the Run, unlike Happiness is a Warm Gun, is awkward in its three part structure, and has a cheesy chorus I hate that gets stuck in my head regardless. The rest of this weirdly sequenced album feels corny and dated, and has a lot of diluted recreation of the Beatles sound, right down to the harmonizing vocals especially in the second half. The songs just don’t grab me at all. One star felt too harsh but I’d probably give it 1.5 if I could.

Bit of a bore

I like the opening/title track, but I didn't find the rest of the album that interesting.

I was a big Beatles fan as a teen but wouldn't have bought this album for $2 at Half-price Books back then. I'm really wondering if trying to listen to all 1,078 albums here is largely a waste of my time because this is yet another 2 (I use the Goodreads scale: 1=didn't like it, 2=it was OK, 3=liked it, 4=really liked it, 5=it was amazing.) How can something so pedestrian be a 'must hear' album?

Band On The Run is a fine song and album opener. Dear lord, this side A is boring. Picasso's Last Words (Drink To Me) has some fun shifts and textures.

Hmm. It's not the Beatles. Solo Paul - songs are still good but I feel this goes into cheesey 70s a tad. Didn't love it.

Maso maso

It’s fine - doesn’t really feel like it holds together as an “album“ though. Great song I just heard in ’Licorice Pizza’ though (‘Let me Roll it’.)

Very repetitive lyrically. Slow and boring. I just don't care Paul McCartney this is rubbish. Beatles is better. Also man on the last track is having a siezure

Sorry Paul

Bit boring

I remember this album from when I was a kid, but only a couple tracks, like the title track and Jet. Despite our family having this LP in our home in the 70s, I'm not sure I ever listened to it all the way through, at least not attentively. It's okay. It's not horrible, and I still like the title track and Jet, although truth be told that might be due to nostalgia. Overall, I just wasn't very interested as I listened to it. Too saccharine for me. I did read the Wikipedia entry on this album and the story of the album's making is definitely worth a read.

Helt ok, Band on the Run är en panglåt. Stark 2:a/svag 3:a.

Ah, so the Beatles were a fluke. He's right, this band should be on the run after putting out this album.

Gets a star for first half of band on the run. The rest is just okay. Like the cover. It gets a star too.

thppt. shoulda stayed in the Beatles.

Mega lame, where’s RAM on this list :(

i judged too soon it wasn’t that bad but band on the run is JARRING SHUT UP so minus points for that

I don’t know why but I didn’t enjoy it seemed like a novelty albums at times and was just generally a little bit boring 😔

He's definitely done a lot better than this

Nothing specially, sounds like McCartney on a musical conveyor belt.

Did not stand out to me at all

Just not for me. Most of the songs were very similar and consisted of a few words softly repeated over a basic melody. The title track is ok but it plays like a medley of four to five different songs and I would have preferred if they kept up the energy. The last song brought some energy back and was probably the best on the album but I could have done without the uncomfortable gratuitous grunting.

thank fuck the beatles ended when they did. imagine if they turned this shit. there's already a window of the beatles being good, as in post drugs, if they'd carried on and turned into this then the window of them being good would become a smaller. imagine a world where the beatles are like the who, or fleetwood mac where they're big but also churn out a load of shit.

2 stars so far eh. overplayed.

Eh, it's fine. A couple of really good moments, and some terrible ones.

Average. Liked jet.

It's not the Beatles.

Kinda hokey. The songs I like have the least amount of plays on Amazog

This album just confirms that Lennon was the talented one.

what a turd

too much pop sound

Best song: Jet (fuzz bass) Guitars sound out of tune all the time Acoustics are ok Funky beatles 3/10

Ehhhhhh

Not really my jam, a bit too sweet at times, but still not a bad listen. The album starts strong with the first 2 songs (Band On The Run and Jet). The middle felt very Beatles-ish, but a bit flat or boring. The last song however (Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five) was again great.

It was fine

Did not like it. Kinda understand why John and George left the way they did.

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da meets Peter Frampton. It's like, barf me out. Gag me with a spoon

Total crap

*Bostezo*

It’s okay

very different sound than I thought would be.

Awful.

Shit shit

I find that none of the solo albums of former Beatles are good. They all work better together than apart.

I just don't like this -- didn't get past the first song.

Not my cup of tea

When the band name contains "so and so and ..." you know you're about to get some self-indulgent prick who'll respond to any feedback with "who the f do you think you're talking to?" No wonder half the band quit on the way to the studio. And so you end up with this, where every song seem schizophrenic, going too long and squeezing in too many ideas. Or just randomly switching back to choruses from earlier songs when the ideas ran out. I'm sure a half decent producer could've distilled something great out of this, but who was going to tell Paul without him cancelling them?

Paul had a lot of ideas for this album. They were all bad. 2.8 Fav track: Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five Least fav: Picasso's Last Words

Didn't listen.

1.5, hate the Beatles ah

Fela Kuti is right about this album. Bland appropration of afro-soul

Granny music

- I don’t fuck with Zionists. - The vocals feel weirdly centred but back, and I don’t find Paul’s singing voice or the harmonies very interesting on this album. It all feels so “old-timey”, like the aggravating repeated Ho hey ho on Mrs. Vandebilt… - The bass was the best part, by far (they definitely felt more forward than the vocals in the mix). Also, some good guitar riffs, but I don’t love the guitar tone. - I only like the first song on the album. The rest of the album just has too much cheesy filler. Every song has something irritating about it, e.g., Mamunia oooooo. - This album just feels thin and trite, especially the vocals. There isn’t enough power to it — it’s too sweet. And I like sweet, e.g., Belle and Sebastian, but I want some spice or tongue in cheek with it. - Let me Roll it is getting on my nerves - yeah, we get that you like that guitar lick… all the tracks feel overbearingly repetitive like this (lyrics and instrumentals).

Beatles yesterday, Wings today?! Unfortunately listening to them side by side, Wings just doesn't rate and "Jets" is just irritating !!

someone please rescue those poor synthesizers and give them to people who can treat them better there are some amazing bass lines wasted on some of the most obnoxious songs you’ll ever hear paul mccartney shouldn’t be allowed to write lyrics. morally or legally helen wheels is an atrocity, like some kind of experiment to find out what happens when you drain all the charm and talent out of a Joe Walsh song it’s annoying because I think mccartney has a wonderful voice that excels in harmonies but I also think when he does music it is a crime band on the run is an entire album of songs that should sound pretty but are instead irritating in ways they didn’t have to be

Not for me.

Well, this album reminded me that, no matter how big a fan I was of the Beatles, with very rare exceptions I just could not get into their solo work. Not even George, who I thought had some of the best songs on Beatles albums. Paul was the worst offender, followed closely by John. But Paul’s solo work (some songs on his first album being some of those rare expections) just showed me how much both he and John needed the other to temper their worst indulgences. Paul was treacly, overly sentimental, just downright goofy sometimes but not ironically and he would have been right at home in some English music hall. His stuff just makes me shudder. There are a couple of okay songs on Band On the Run, Let It Roll and Bluebird (I think) but the rest makes me want to stick pencils in my ears. This is the first time I’ve listened to this album all the way through and it will be the last.

Worst Beatle

This is the kind of music made by someone who is simply doing what he wants. Unfortunately, what he wants to do is make garbage music. Over the course of his career there are a few shiny things buried in the trash, but you will not find them on this album.

My heart is like a wheel / let me roll it / let me roll it to you With lyrics like that, it's no wonder this is a band on the run.

Was ist schlimmer als Beatles? Ein Solo Album!

I always thought post Beatles Paul was kind of cheesy. After listening to this album in its entirety I stand by that assessment. Soooo cheesy. The lyrics are just stupid to me. And Bluebird, good grief. Awful. Won’t be listening again.

mccartney same ol dullness

Awful. Paul McCartney may be a gifted musician and song writer but his singing was always shit and he was massively over rated.

Ugh, lump this into the overplayed miasma of Beatles dribble...

Bluebird gave me Stockholm Syndrome. I hated this album so much, midway through that song I tried convincing myself it wasn’t so bad, then came to my senses and carried on hating it the rest of the way through. Hard listen.

Peak boomer bullshit. Let me die without having to insist the musical idols of my youth are some type of critical piece of musical education.

First track remains a great tune. Rest of it is meh.

doesn't grab me 1.5

Not fan of McCartne

A couple of hits and some fillers. Next.

Langweilig, uninspiriert und einfallslos

Why is this on this list?

I hate it.

Unworthy contestant.

i feel bad giving everything a 1 lmao. but i appreciate this for what it's worth! just not for me ☹️

I don't really like Paul McCartney music

Got pretty bored. They all sounded the same to me.

Not a fan

My pain threshold is about 4 songs. I'm pretty sure when this was released this already was boomer music. I really hate how they repeat the same line for half the song

Not one good song after the two hits. It was so boring. The only good thing I have to say is that it was not very long.

I found it dull, boring.

nice interesting harmonies enjoyed a few bits of songs here and there but overall not my style

FUCKIN' sucks fat balls

Fucking Paul

Not it

Oh dear.

Not for me.

Infumable por mucho Paul McCartney que sea. Los Wings no debieron existir

Nice album :)
