Reviews (page 14 of 14)
I'm not a jazz fan. At all. Just can't get anything out of it.
Jazzy but bored after 5 minutes. One star 🌟
i dont like jazz! there were several instances where I could dig the sound, but not enough to not make me wish the album was over sooner. I did it, I don't think i'll ever do so again.
I'm sorry, as I'm going to offend some people here, but at times this sounded like three siblings, each with an instrument, desperately trying to get their mother's attention, before falling, as one, down a metal fire escape and into a metal rubbish bin. I just didn't get it
Absolutely not for me. I can understand it's highly thought of in the big scheme of things, but it's really not designed for me. I only made it through the whole thing by turning it down low and pretending it was background movie soundtrack to my day.
Gash
I’ll shit on your face
I love Chicken supreme
Kiinnostavasta ideasta taustahälyyn. Niin minä tämän kulutin.
It's a no from me
This is a bit much for my tastes. I'm sure it's ground breaking etc... but I just don't care for it. Caused me to turn down the volume. I'm sure back in the day this was like awesome heavy stuff but now it just sounds crappy to me.
no way
sorry there are just no jazz cells in my entire brain
Back to back days getting straight jazz albums and while I won’t rate this high at all, it won’t be as bad as I rate it. I just don’t think this type of music is for me. Fwiw, I enjoyed listening to it but imo, there is zero replayability for me personally here.
I wanted to like it but it just wasn’t for me.
Not my kind of jazz
boring...
With all due respect to the legend and the musicianship on here; I’ll never ever listen to this again. I tried, but jazz is not for me. Track 1 sounds like random sounds on the saxophone. Track 2 sounds like random notes on the piano. Track 3 sounds like random notes on the saxophone AND the piano, while the last track wraps everything up.
Granted I am not a jazz fan in the slightest but I feel like I like music enough to appreciate good sounds and this just didn’t have good sounds for me. Some bits of nice piano but the horns just sounded like they were being tortured half the time. Maybe that’s good jazz? I don’t know. Sorry, John.
Mediocre modal Jazz. Didn't even like it as background music.
Too much instrumental
Apparently I just do not like jazz.
Oof. I like a bit of jazz but not this Way too much chaos going on for me to be able to enjoy it. Drums banging everywhere and piano keys getting smashed. I felt an anxiety attack coming on, my body couldn't relax! 1 ⭐️
72 hours of excruciating hell! Who needs thumbscrews, water torture or Guantanamo when this could just play on repeat and force submission within minutes? Louis Balfour would say Niiiiice! I say - where’s my headache tablets?
Didn’t like thisxat all!
Oh hooray! Another jazz album. This one I had the misfortune of listening to 15-20 years ago. It did nothing for my developing brain then, and it still does nothing for me now. I'll be honest, I only listened to the first track this time around. But it was enough for me to remember that I have heard this, didn't like it, and would much rather listen to literally anything else.
Hell no. 0.25 stars
I have not heard of this album before as I don’t like jazz. It’s fine for being background music but I would never want to put this on willingly. Will not listen again.
I vascillate with jazz. I like background music with smooth/soft jazz, containing nice rhythms and sweet tunes. But then I listen to this and hear perhaps a technically superior album that sounds like musicians just jamming in their own heads and realize I really dislike this style. 1 / 5
Not for me
- I can't get on board with Jazz
Ciboire que jcomprends pas le fucking jazz.
Not for me at the moment to chaotic jazzy sound
Random stuff. experimental jazz. Its good but these people just needed electronics.
John Coltrane is a king in the Jazz community and I know of this album's fame, but it is just not my thing.
Jazz aficionados will say I don’t get it…and they’re right. What a load of crap. This was a painful listen for several reasons. For starters, I don’t really care for the tone of a saxophone that much. It sounds like a clarinet with a bad head cold. Then, the early stages of stereo recording with its strange separation of instruments; sax in left ear, drums all the way in the right ear, piano and bass minimally spaced in the middle….annoying. Then the worst part, four guys just rambling on their instruments for a half hour. The only good thing I can say is “whew, I will NEVER listen to that again!” I give it one star because I can’t give it negative stars.
Not my thing.
Sounds like walking in a music school rehearsal building where there are lots of good musicians practicing their own things at the same time. Very nearly unlistenable for me.
Jazz is not my favourite music ...
How can anybody listen to this. I think listening to robbie coltrane farting for the same amount of time as this album would have been just as entertaining
Did not like it
I wish I had more hands so I can give this album four thumbs down. I was expecting to be overwhelmed with how musically talented these players were, but I really just think that they were a bunch of amateur junior high school players. Mama this was garbage.
32 mins 46 secs over 4 songs 💀💀, i cant even edge that long. lyrics L
Just not my thing.
Not my choice…1/5
Free form jazz, blech
Too discordant. Didn’t enjoy
Jazz - I just don't get it!
yea, jazz is not for me
I can appreciate that it took a certain level of musicianship and creative freedom to create this, but it didn't interest me at all.
too many notes
opposite of my thing
Noise, just screeching noise. Who gave John Coltrane a musical instrument? I just have one question, how dare you?
Meh
I didn't enjoy this. Too jazzy! All over the place in parts and too jarring. I know that's probably part of the appeal and I'm meant to appreciate the technicality, but I don't! I enjoyed the Hugh Masekela album more than this so this is getting a 1.5
I really tried with this. I want to like jazz but just find it irritating. I’m sure the musicianship is impressive but i just don’t get it. An aimless racket. Emperors new clothes.
Kept waiting for the song to start but it never started :(
Don't like jazz
ENOUGH WITH THE JAZZ ALBUMS!
I listen to some weird shit, and several of the bands are heavily influenced by free-form jazz. But they at least carry a theme over, around, and through which they play their instruments. But with this there were many many times when it just descended into a cacophony. Not for me.
I used to think I had a pretty diverse music taste, but this week’s selections have thrown a few different genres, and I’m struggling to enjoy stuff that’s out of my lane. I can appreciate this for its technical brilliance, but it just doesn’t inspire any of the emotions that make me turn up the volume, or listen again.
Awful
A Love Supreme Pt V - Hideous
Wow this is another level of horrible
Nice
Got anxious
Not my thing. It didn't move me emotionally and didn't work as background music, found it too distracting
Not the biggest fan of jazz but I can appreciate it in some ways. It reminds me a lot of films set in New York such as 'Taxi Driver' and 'Mean Streets'. I've always seen the saxophone as a sleezy instrument. Half way through the first song the best began to become a bit more cohesive compared to the beginning. Towards the end when he keeps repeating 'Love Supreme', it reminded me a lot of Viper the Rapper. He raps in that monotone voice similar to John Coltrane and often uses repetition. Jazz just gives me anxiety and makes me uncomfortable as a genre. Overall, was not a fan.
Awful. Of course.
I didn't share the opinion of the YouTube comments.
No.
Honestly just sounds like a 3 year old let loose on a trumpet.
👎
Jazz not for me, I’m afraid
Jazz is a fucking mess isn’t it!? I don’t have a clue how to go about this. I’m sure it’s all very good to those who ‘get it’ but I’m not about about to gush about something just because I feel like I ought to… at times this borders on unlistenable. I don’t understand it and I don’t like it.
I haven’t heard John Coltrane before. Prior to this review project I was pretty much a blank slate with jazz in general, but Miles Davis easily won me over. So let’s see if I enjoy this as much! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: A Love Supreme Patient 4: Psalm This album gave me a headache. There is an old saying in jazz in that it’s all about the notes they AREN’T playing. Well I’m pretty sure than John Coltrane plays all the notes regardless of what the rest of the band is doing which ends up making a big mess of sound. There are parts where you can hear the brass instruments squeaking (I think it’s saxophone) and it’s just an all round unpleasant sound. The one positive is that track 4 was a little easier to listen to, but it’s still not good by any means.
100
Like it's jazz I get it, but just sounded like an unorganised orgy of instrumentals
Fuck jazz
Too much for moi.
I am comfortable with not being a jazz person 1
Mmmmm. Jazzz. Niiiiiice. But not for me.
p78, 1965. 1 star There is a reason that jazz fell out of favour, and this is a prime example of why. It might be technically excellent, but for the casual listener it simply isn't accessible - it comes across as formless, self indulgent, meandering musical wankage. This is 32 minutes of my life I will never get back.
no jazz
This sound wasn’t for not me.
Just don't like jazz
Jazz.... Still not a fan. This album was a grind to get through
Yeah, I just don't get it. It sounds like he's playing a different song to the rest of the band. I'd be interested to know if he actually plays it the same every time he plays it? It almost sounds as though it's a bit random? A lot of the time it didn't even sound good, it was just messy. Like the saxophone bit was ok, and the backing band was ok. Individually they'd have been fine. But they just don't seem to go together?
They are very jazzy, but I could listen to a whole album worth🎷.
I appreciate the attempt to create an album that has "movements" instead of songs in order to tell a story. Free form jazz, as far as I can tell, is just a bunch of really talented musicians each playing their own song, but all at the same time. It just doesn't land right with me. There's too much going on. I loved Alvin Jones's work on the kit in this one though.
Nope
I really don't care about music theory. Maybe if I did, I would think this is cool, but there are so many points in the album that fall flat. I really didn't enjoy that the first song separated the instruments to left and right making it unbearable. The album was also missing my two of favorite jazz instruments, the drum and the piano. Jazz standards and key changes are not things I find interesting.
I'd love to like this sort of music, but I can only really listen to this in a bar with lots of loud chatter, and a glass or 3 of red wine.
inascoltabile
1/5 kann ich nix mit anfangen
Hated it. I really tried but it did nothing for me
false
Pretty good!
Good jazz but not for me
