Reviews (page 5 of 14)
An extremely enjoyable album with such chill electronica soundscapes that I am surprised I have never listened to the artist before
Belting record that has a sound of its own. Takes me back to a time and place. Front-loaded with the best stuff.
Great album
Great relaxed sound, good memories. I like it more than Daft Punk
Dare I say this is a 4? This album was short and fun and diverse.
Fun electronica, not like the boring ones. Favorite track: all i need other picks: le femme d'argent, sexy boy, ce matin-la
goated fricking album so fricking chill and awesome
Great album.

I will say its a bit unfortunate when an album peaks at its first song, that said I really liked this album. This album is a calming vibe though, I really liked it for the most part. Electronic music is something I always thought I rarely liked but the more I go into this list the more I realize that's not the case. The issue with the genre is simply I find it quite inconsistent from album to album. I will say, the slow pace and dreaminess of this album may make for good background music, but sitting through and listening to the whole thing did feel a bit tiring towards the end. But I can hardly fault it for that, I just don't think that's the way this type of album is meant to be listened to.
3.5
*Moon Safari* This was actually my fifth favorite album on the 98 dive. I absolutely love the textures of it. Part electronica , part new age, part soft jazz, part pseudo funk, and a little bit of ELO. They are a band that I've been meaning to do a dive on, but never have. Their soundtrack to *The Virgin Suicides* was my entry point to the band, which I really loved as well, and this backs that assessment up. (9.4) ★★★★½
4.5
Bit of a safe normie recommendation for electronica but still a classic of the genre nonetheless. The first 3 tracks are so sumptuous, dreamy, iconic, organic, classic and chill and although the rest of the album is a bit scatty n sketchy there are relaxed delicious hints of Gainsbourg, Daft Punk, Bacharach and even Boards Of Canada adjacentness. As great as the first 3 songs are the rest of it is a tad of a letdown in comparison and I do find myself often going to Simple Things by Zero 7 which has the none-more-chill standout In The Waiting Line.
Actual Rating: 4.5/5
Right up my alley.
Pretty good! The title of this album is as accurate as it gets. Feels like a slow trip through space, while still being quite entertaining. Lots of synth and good for background music, though not my personal vibe. A solid 7/10
Love.
Owned this on CD and it still holds up. Lovely music to work by.
Incredibly spacy operatic rock that was a lot better than expected
Never heard of album or band. Not sure what to expect, not usually a fan of electronic. First song blew me away. I can’t believe how much I enjoyed it. Great bass line. Production all around was so good. So audibly pleasing. Didn’t need any words. Sexy boy has great production again, not really a fan of the vocals. Beats are so good. All I need is better lyrics wise. Good guitar. Good change of pace from the first 2 songs. Subtle piano is fire. Lyrics are kinda bs on Kelly watch but the beat is so cool once again. Great music to listen to while working. Tailsman was cool, fun song not much more to say. I’m liking this style. You make it easy is fine. Very soft rock. Not really my style. Horns on ce matin are so good. Not as much of a fan of the harmonica. Strings are cool. Really cool bass line on new star in the sky. Good piano too. Lyrics are kind of unnecessary. Voyage de Penelope is super cool as well. I don’t know what some of these sounds are but they work. It’s so much slower than any electronic album I’ve ever heard. Blew away my expectations. Just a really nice listen. 3.7 stars.
Nice sunny day doing chores music

Quite like this ambient mood
Light-hearted, pop, french
A lot of fun and well done for what it is but a bit tough for me to get into I suppose
They come in with their French tones and make a fairly descent album.
Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: La femme d'argent On a whim (not exactly a whim) I listened to this album back in November 2025. I did so, because over the years, my downtempo electronica radio stations have played La femme d'argent a decent amount. Basically, it came up enough to the point of me saying "maybe I should check out the whole album". Before I get too deep into a full second listen, I will just say that I don't remember it leaving any particularly lasting impression on me. Maybe this will change between last November and now. I know that is a seminal piece in the downtempo electronica genre, in the same way that Portishead really established the trip-hop genre. After a few more listens, I enjoy it well enough. It's exactly what you want in downtempo. Chill music to listen to while relaxing, having a nice cozy party, reading a book or cleaning the house. It's light on lyrics and more of a soundscape of ideas. It's an important piece in the genre. I hope some others come up on the List, like Thievery Corporation or Nightmares on Wax, or maybe even Bonobo!
Thierry Henry hadn't kicked a ball for Arsenal when this was released but both turned out to be French alchemists who rewrite the rules in the early 2000s. C'est formidable.
One of the chillest albums ever made, surely. Very relaxing and beautiful. Faves: La femme d'argent, All I Need (feat. Beth Hirsch), Kelly Watch the Stars, Ce matin-là
reminds me of Tobacco. Black Moth Super Rainbow
Great mood music; lovely airy (reference noted) vibe. Lots of good grooves. The female singer should get more credit. Will start a Pandora station and expect to hear lots of similar bands
real potential here for this to marinate and be rated as a 5. beautifully atmospheric, finally some background music that isn't totally forgettable. sounds like it'd be perfect for one of those quiet moments alone where you're actually romanticising life - maybe my rating will change if i listen to it during one of those
Cool album, not my normal vibe but I enjoyed it. I can see where it was influential (some Ocean's 11 vibes here and there). Definitely very 90s.
Pretty cool album, chill and upbeat atmosphere. Good listening for sunny days, for driving and for doing fuck all. Influence of Nightmares on wax potentially. Few songs second half of the album let it down for me but finishes well. Great start, had heard some of it before for sure but great recommendation.
Pretty good, not what I expected out of the 90s
Etéreo.
Why is this album so much better than any other ambient album?
Was not expecting that! Really thought I wouldn’t enjoy this but it’s an absolute cracker. Will be going on my chilled layed back rotation.
A joyous record.
classique!! très bon synthé, que des bon morceaux 4.5-/5
Ahh, finally the author of this book gets an electronic music pick right. Well done, Dimery.
Super cool
Stylish, slick, chill electronic music. Never heard of this album before but it’s very enjoyable. Somehow toes the line between ambient music and dance music.
A really nice easy listening record. Electronic music tends not to be my thing but this was a real surprise. I was aware of the album's heavy hitter, Sexy Boy, which is still one of my favourite songs on the album. But I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the album. As I lay down just before bed to listen to this it felt like a perfect nightcap to a long day. A well produced, downtempo album with some nice bass and instrumentation. Not an album I'd reach for often but when the moment calls for it, I'll be very glad to have it there. 3.5/5 or 4/5, it depends on how I'm feeling but since I'm in the mood for this kinda music rn, I'll go for 4/5.
Good atmospheric album. Reminds me of Daft Punk probably because they are both french electronic bands. The Beth Hirsch songs are perfect. 9/10
Such beautiful and interesting floaty music. I loved this. Saved “… la femme D’argent”.
This is a largely driven album by solely instrumentals, however there are some lyric driven tracks which tended to be my favorites overall. Its a largely ambient driven record as well, definitely perfect for a nice walk outside in the warm weather. The instrumental was mostly enjoyable except for the closing track which I thought was bit boring, and the opening track which I enjoyed but also felt like it dragged on for a bit. I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful strings on the song "Talisman" and the incredible bass throughout the record. This album is nothing innovational, but it serves its purpose well to be something to have on to feel good throughout your day. Highlights: Sexy Boy, All Need, You Make It Easy, New Star In The Sky. P.S the French throughout the album was really cool.
Мало что понимаю в их творчестве и жанре в целом, но звучит пиздато. Приятное звучание, цепляющие мелодии, расслабляющая атмосфера, это просто идеальная фоновая музыка в самом хорошем смысле.
словил лунный вайб
This is my second time listening to "Moon Safari". My first exposure to Air was when I watched the music video for "Sexy Boy" some years back. The first track of "Moon Safari" has to be one of the best openers I've ever heard. I also enjoyed the singles, including "Sexy Boy". That's how you should start a week. 4 stars for "Moon Safari".
Airy synths. Immaculate vibes. Just a nice time.
Starts very well but peters out
I listened to this album for the first time. I'd previously avoided it because, for some unknown reason, I thought it was elevator music. I know, I know — incredible ignorance. This is more suitable for a stroll through a dimly lit park at night, enjoying a sunset by the sea, a slow dance with your girlfriend, the backdrop to an old French film, or, ultimately, a theoretical moon safari. And I wouldn't mind a leisurely ride to the seventieth floor in a panoramic elevator to this album. French electronic music: minimalist and rich, psychedelic and soothing, vintage and futuristic all at once. If I could describe this album in one word, I'd say "elegant." An elegant album, not for everyday listening or for every mood.
Great
bliss.
excellent zoning out album. would also be an amazing like late night drive vibe 🌙
Kelly, look at the stars
You make it easy to listen to this album. 🎧🎶
Amazing Best tracks: La femme d'argent, All I Need, Kelly Watch the Stars
This album took a few listens to get at first, but it really is a beautiful electronic album. Some songs are a bit too long or empty, but it goes for a more sound album instead of a song album. Cool things.
Chill brother chill. Vibey funky beats. Electronic but easy with it. Could see it in an oceans 11 movie. Saved 3 songs from the album
Not bad)
this is beautiful, cool, sophisticated late night music. It brings out something calm and shining, a little detached, like you’re watching yourself in a dream. I adore this. It dreams and hurts and floats. Very self-consciously cool.
4/5 fav album so far i think! definitely my vibe. knew sexy boy before listening and the others didn’t disappoint. one of the songs i didn’t like which is why it lost a star.
Incredibly chill, would be great for music to just vibe to or music for in the background of work or homework. Very nice.
4/5 I wish I could snort this album, holy shit. It feels like I'm taking a voyage through a very soothing dream.
Full of interesting sonics and textures, a very enjoyable record
No geral, gostei bastante e ouvirei outras vezes. Destaques: "La femme d'argent" (ótima linha de baixo), "Sexy Boy" (talvez minha preferida), "Talisman", "Remember", "You Make It Easy" (talvez a preferida seja essa rs), "Ce matin-là" (instrumental muito bonitinho). Lembro que vi o clipe de "Kelly Watch Stars" uns anos atrás e gostei muito. Tinha memória de ter gostado mais da música.
Îi fainut
So fun, diverse, electronic but also instrumental. Really impressive production and creativity shown here. I thought the album ended and went to a different artist several times while listening.
8/10 Favorite: All I Need
Favourite song: talisman
experimental, muy tranquilo
nice chill funk vibe
It's good it's just not my thing
Takes me on such a journey, just really immerses me in the album.
Great vibes on this
The official backing track to my workday, and I mean that as no insult. Have always enjoyed this album, especially the first half.
Perfect “come to mine for dinner” album
Mannnn i need to host a dinner party so i can play sexy synth ambient music 😩
As the name of the album suggests, it pulls in a groovy sound from the bass or a horn or keyboard that almost mimics a background music from old, exploration type of pixel games. It sounds so chic and if angels wore futuristic wings that shoots laser. This made me feel like I'm somewhere in outer space, chilling with the otherworldly beings. The type of songs in this album is really dependent on vibes and I think it is more fitting for random dancing like you're the wind itself and not for the type of song to be with other people. This is when your room is the dance floor and you let the lights dim around you. Then, dance carefree alone. Also, Talisman sounds like if Pink Panther was in a super secret mission to defeat an evil, underground boss. It's good though. Liked songs: All I Need Sexy Boy La femme d'argent Kelly Watch the Stars You Make It Easy (note: so freaking romantic) Le voyage de Pénélope Jan 21, 2026 - 8:17 PM
Loved this album love the songs will listen again
What is it with French people and making amazing electronic music?
super cool, some songs better than others
I've gotten an odd number of electronic albums lately, and I think this is the best of them. It's a vibe. Makes me want to watch 10 Things I Hate About You again.
Even though I don't care for Air I still respect it as something well made, well put together and consistent. Bonafide retro lounge. Even though I don't like it personally.
9/10. Amazing album, one weaker track (You Make It Easy) lets it down a bit.
The electronic sound is usually not my thing, but i was surprised with this one. Such a breathy and light sound, perfect for going on a walk or playing it in the background. Some of the songs are even a bit more romantic and sensual, like "All i need" and "You make it easy". Also surprised by how many different instruments and effects they use. And the thing is, it sounds exactly as they were thinking
I had this album when it came out, Sexy Boy caught my attention and the album delivered. So many of the tracks seem to have been used for various purposes down the years and this album feels rather timeless. It might be a little front loaded but perhaps only because the back half is a bit more chilled.
i've been meaning to listen to this! sexy boy is in my hollanov playlist <3 sensational
6.5/10
I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting. Remember was my favorite track, the Do It Again sample in the background elevated that for me.
Pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed this one more than I thought. Nice chill beats.
Very easy to nap to, in a good way
Розслабляючий альбом , щоб включити на задній фон для роботи ,але крім цього це слухати трохи нудно.Єдина пісня яка якось відрізняється це All i need .Синтезатор ,гітара. Talisman відчувається як пісня про Джеймса Бонда
it feels cozy. album to play like a back music
Very pleasent to listen to and the sound is very fitting to the functional programming coursework I am doing whilst this is playing in the background!
хорошая музыка, мне зашло. лайт и чилл
Good, but all the songs didn't seem to go anywhere. I enjoyed them, but the endings all felt very disappointing
7/10 This album did my head in during the 90s - it was everywhere. But I've mellowed on it and enjoyed it well enough today. I still don't get how people do loved the repetitiveness of it all, but it does in the mid-background very nicely.
Great ear for melody and harmony. Finding this group here has been one of the bright spots of the list.
New nothing about this going in and it was really excellent. Awesome bass lines throughout. Really great self editing. Tracks never stretch out too long or outstay their welcome. The tracks with full on vocals are a lovely change of pace when they crop up The strings on talisman are sick as hell.
Some tv score hits. A little more techno than I’d usually go for but found it cool
It had been a while since I had listened to this one. This isn't a genre I typically enjoy but in my opinion this is one of the better examples of it.
la femme d'argent is a vibe wait this whole thing is a vibe favorite song: la femme d'argent
Sounds like a film or show soundtrack. In fact, the track “Sexy Boy”, can be found in the film “10 things I hate about you”. Solid relaxing kind of alt sound. Occasionally silky strat. W: 4.3/5 P: 4.6/10
Great synths and vibes dude
Nice, chill vibes music. Perfect background for learning SQL. Top: Le voyage de Pénélope Not Top: Remember
Reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite. Which means I love it.
Not normally into chill but this is top class. 4 may be harsh
Probably one of the best examples of 90s chill-out electronica. Manages to feel effortlessly cool.
Absolutely a daily to listen to album wich perfectly enhanced my daily life
Funk album, don’t know if I would listen to it again
Ethereal and calming, I liked it.
This is even dreamier and space-y than I thought it was going to be, truly felt like a 43 minute long moon walk through the vast emptiness that surrounds us. This project truly wouldn't be what it is without the help of Beth Hirsch providing very pillow-like vocals that help you relax even further to a lot of these very unconventional Ambient Pop songs. This project gives you quite a lot to think about musically as it continues to be weird and unusual even now over 30 years later. It may not be the most mind blowing Trip Hop I have heard but I still have to hand it to Air, they surprised me plenty of times with this thing.
Fantastic album. Great vibes As soon as sexy boy starts playing it makes you feel as the title says. Great for a walk or while trying to get to sleep
I really enjoyed the overall vibe of this one. La Femme d’argent ★★★☆☆ Sexy Boy ★★★★☆ All I Need ★★★☆☆ Kelly, Watch the Stars! ★★★★☆ Talisman ★★★★☆ Remember ★★★☆☆ You Make It Easy ★★★☆☆ Ce matin‐là ★★★☆☆ New Star in the Sky (Chanson pour Solal) ★★★☆☆ Le Voyage de Pénélope ★★★☆☆ Average Album Rating: 3.3/5.0 ★★★☆☆
beautiful
goes from making you dizzy to vibing with sci-fi to blasting classical, emotional music (in order)
🫰
An odd one this. I definitely heard and loved the three singles when they came out. Pretty sure I also bought the album. But I think this might have been my first time listening to it. One of my most underrated bands, for sure.
we chillin
Very Vibe Indeed
First track was incredible, loved the feature and how soothing and soundtracky it feels at times. Listening with headphones was never as important.
Atmospheric and effortlessly cool, with gorgeous highs like “La Femme d’Argent” and the Beth Hirsch collaborations adding real emotional weight. A few tracks drift or lean into unnecessary electronic oddities, but the album’s warmth and elegance keep it floating comfortably above most late-’90s chill-out fare.
I liked it! Felt very vibey, and not like a lot of the music I traditionally listen to. Reminded me a lot of the experimental Beastie Boys stuff (The Mix Up, The In Sound From Way Out), and the track Remember reminded me of ELO. Felt like something I would use in edits, or have on in the background to work for. Not sure if any tracks individually stood out a lot, or if I'd re-visit, but definitely a distinct feeling throughout the entire album.
I really enjoyed this album. The warm and gentle, yet at times cinematic ambience was lovely to just exist in. I struggle to think of highlights because this felt more like an immersive album to just sink into and let wash over you. It all feels very lush. Listening to this, I can hear its influence in style on other artists and albums I love.
Really like it Don’t know if it has the depth for a 5 but a solid 4
8/10
I almost always listen to albums in the morning(even this morning, which has been a terrible morning for me), but this is a better album to listen to while winding down after a wild evening on the town. Every track sounds like it's from a different album, and each song hits you in one way, or another. The only major flaw with the album is it lacks that one true banger. Favorite Track: "La Femme d'argent".
Ok…in my wheelhouse…not a diner party went by late 90s without this super cool vibing duo. I do wonder if Tony Banks got some royalties for “la femme d’argent”…which could have been lifted off his keyboard on Genesis’s “The Lamb…” 😂
Beautiful album 💿
ELO-esque. In a good way. I liked the dreamy quality and timelessness of the songs
gives me indie/hippy vibes i definitely like it however it’s not something i would like pick to be my first choice to listen to
I already had listened to a few of their songs (Sexy Boy, and Playground Love and High school lover from the Virgin Suicides soundtrack) so I’m somewhat familiar with their music. La femme d’argent - nice slow, groovy number, I like the little electronic sci-fi effects sprinkled in there, it is a wee bit long tho ngl Sexy boy - LOOOVEE, love the weird gravelly sound at the start, rlly rlly like all the details in this one, the guitar, the ‘ooo’, the wowowow, so gooood All I need - the vocals are a nice touch from the mostly instrumental songs before, more chill Kelly watch the stars - ok beat drop, rlly like the autotuned vocals, reminds of Daft Punk a little bit, also sci fi sounds lol 😛, like how this is a bit more upbeat Talisman - a lil mysterious 👀, oooh I like that it picks up the beat later and slowly builds Remember - autotuned voice again eat, nice softer song to balance out You make it easy - ok voice, lowkey feels a bit flat compared to the other songs, doesn’t rlly stand out to me 🤷♀️ Ce matin-la - rlly chill in a nice way, love the strings later on, holy moley, just sounds nice to listen to New star in the sky - also just a rlly nice listen, I was walking while listening to this so I wasn’t FULLLYYY paying attention lol Le voyage de Penelope - actually love, a little groovy, I rlly like the wowowowowows and the flutter things, really cool OVERALL: all of the electronic details are so goooood, just makes the listen even more interesting, it all flowed really well together, and the occasional vocals were nice to keep the album interesting, I rlly enjoyed it 😛 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/ 5
Excellent
A lowkey French daft punk
A very pleasant surprise. Turns out the French know what they're doing. This is downtempo late-'90s electronica in a good way. I wish I had known about it in college - perfect studying music. Influence 3. Hits 2. Quality 4. Intangibles 4. Mikey, I think he likes it 4.
I would have rated it much higher but I did feel some of the tracks did drag on. No one does electronic music like the French.
Surprisingly quite enjoyable!
Oh yeah. These guys. Not too bad. I remember them from the "Sexy Boy" song. I'm not sure how to classify them. They are very unique and I'll bump them up on that alone. More of a 3 but they get that bump.
4/5
uno de los mejores discos del mundo para cerrar los ojos y dejarte llevar por los pensamientos internos. ce matin-là podría ser una base de la casa azul perfectamente.
Listening Notes Truly a great album, can just put this on and let it go Standouts: "La femme d'argent", "Sexy Boy", "Remember" First time? No Will it go into your rotation? Vinyl pickup
Easy to dismiss as 'easy-listening' Euro-cheese but it's well-crafted electro-pop that has found a way into western consciousness through air-play (pun intended) and the background music in movies, series and adverts.
I like this as background music. Non demanding and dances around your ears. I had forgotten I had heard this album many times in the 90s, didn't expect to know so many of the tracks.
Great sound. It really gave me Pink Floyd/Daft Punk vibes.
Favorite Songs: Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars
Better than I thought it would be. it's a nice relaxing album.
A nice chill album. First song is a banger.
Interessante. Direi 4 su 5
Like a prototype of daft punk I can see where they got inspired but way more chill vibes than the punch the roof of your car jams of Daft Punk
I'm a little high while writing this, sorry . Moon safari by Air is really cool, I saw a lot of comparisons by other people comparing this to Daft Punk, and thats simply because its a bunch of french guys using autotune to make their voices sound cool, which i like a lot. It's a really chill relaxing album, 8 outta 10.frrrrr
Listened on way to work - I think track 2 was written about me in 1988 - loved the bass throughout - vox dates it a bit, good eighties synth and the vocals from Beth beautiful - 4
Mooie maandagochtendplaat
This one was enjoyable! I've heard a few of these "downbeat" albums before, and they've been pleasant without exception. Hearing a foundational work of the genre, and one with a slightly rougher edge than I'm used to, was really cool. I loved the laid-back jazzy atmosphere of "Ce matin-là" in particular, had a really evocative soundtrack feeling about it. And every number with a vocal hook, especially "Sexy Boy" and "Remember", was very catchy and smooth.
It's very chill so far, I am only on the first track. Can imagine putting this on whilst I'm studying or travelling. Despite this, I do find myself skipping the second track impulsively, but that is why I'm doing this - to actually expand my music taste and stop listening to what I KNOW that I enjoy. Very sensual, I love the electronic pop and the dreaminess of the instrumentals and vocals. This is a late night album, definitely, very soft and gentle on the ears. The artwork on the cover fits the vibe so perfectly. All in all - this is not my usual style of music, but I thoroughly enjoyed each track, even if they were similar in style. 8.5/10, would listen again
The first track really clicked for me. I didn't remember the release date during the listen and assumed this was from the 1970s at first. The production sounds better than other stuff from the late 1990s. I enjoyed this listen. It could be tightened up a little. Some tracks hang around too long.
8/10 very good
Very sensual... experienced. feels like vibing on psycedelics but harmless at the same time.
Very vibey and chill
Found track 1 randomly on apple music and me n gal loved it. Solid rest, altho less good. Martini concorde. FO!
Remember sounds so much like Porter Robinson, or rather Porter Robinson sounds like it, that caught me by surprise I can see the value in this album even though it's not my preferred style of music. The opening and closing titles were my favorite
vibey, chill, great background,
Loved this album, was a nice surprise
I thought we'd had this already, but it turns out I just played the CD in the car a bunch! :) Great album, very comfy
Dreamy floaty music
Already familiar with. Sexy boy is memorizing and unforgettable. The rest of the album feels extremely chill and dreamy. Moon Safari is the perfect name to describe the album. Not something I could listen to all the time, but it is fantastic when mood calls for
Sexy Boy is a hell of an atmospheric tune. This album was nice and chill, I just wish it wasn't Monday morning! Could have done with listening in bed.
Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. A few absolute bangers
Good vibes
Lo-fi delights all the way. Such a brilliant chilled album.
Atmospheric, diversely colorful, and pleasant to listen to. I don't like most electronic music but it's nice to hear one that has a vibe of a movie soundtrack. It feels like the songs are telling a story.
Solid tracks on here. I recognize a lot of these from back in the day. They definitely have a unique sound that kind of borrows some parts of French discohouse but is also pretty different. Kelly Watch the Stars is classic. After the first few tracks, the album kind of goes of into an atmospheric type trip that sounds a little, well, airy. It's not bad, but perhaps not as cool as the first four tracks. The closing track is back to form. 4/5
I have fond memories of this album. I found it sometime in late ’98 or ’99, and once I did, I listened to it on repeat for the better part of a year. There was just something about that mix of uniquely sculpted electronic sounds and dreamy lyrics. The whole album feels more textural and ethereal than most things from that era. Air creates this after-party ambiance you actually want to linger in. Moon Safari captures a very specific time and place for me, a taste of the past that feels relevant because of its approach. It’s a rare album where the mood and soundscape meld together into something very special…and it just stays with you.
need to listen again for sure, I liked it, very atmospheric, most songs do not have lyrics
Still dig it! My first album I was familiar with already.
Loved it.. very chill
Pretty cool
a good record, pleasing for the ears
Cool vibe. Atmospheric electronic sounds
Listening as someone who already loves this band. Makes easy jazz a little more interesting to listen to. Not my favorite album by this group but a good one.
Groovy.
It's nice when this gives me an album I already have a strong opinion on. Always thought that the first half of this album was amazing, All I Need is one of my favourite songs in general, but the latter half is disappointing. The tonal shift makes it feelsl like a different album with lackluster singing (especially the autotune).
What a curious listen. I loved how chill this album was and I liked the elements throughout -- like the sound of nature or the perfectly quiet synths mixed with the vocals... beautifully done.
Kelly Watch The Stars 1001 Albums Generator 167 (11/21/2025) Finally, some good fucking electronica that I've never heard of. So much of the electronic albums I've had thus far on this list have been real stinkers, with the only good ones being the obvious ones that I'm already familiar with. Air's Moon Safari is both very good and I've never heard of it. The opening song reminds me very much of Can's Future Days, which is an album I love. This is probably the best song on the album, but it's far from the only good one. In fact, the next three songs are all bangers, with a special mention to the wonderful vocoding on Kelly Watch The Stars and to Sexy Boy, which is perhaps the closest we get to rock on this album. My only real note is that some songs, like Talisman and You Make It Easy, feel a little bit unnecessary to me. However, most of Moon Safari is wonderful and it really just makes me feel so happy. Great, fun album with some small flaws. 4/5. Favs: La Femme D'Argent Kelly Watch The Stars Ce Matin-La Least Fav: You Make It Easy
Very cool and entertaining. The album art is really cool too.
Fuck yes! Best find so far at number 56! Something different than the obscure & boring britpop and other old pop rock bands that are all over this list. This album looks familiar though I don’t believe I’ve heard it before. Some dreamy, electro, chill wave, psych pop…what could go wrong? It’s not all electronic either as they also incorporate a lot of live instruments. Great all around downtempo vibe to sit back and chill to.
Favs: All I Need, You Make it Easy, Ce Matin-Là
I don't think I've met anyone who doesn't like Sexy Boy. Had a good laugh at old mate who thinks he can write a better list but doesn't like this or Tago Mago. Ultimate dunning-kruger dude.
Soothing and transcendental
Actually a pretty cool, funky-ish background album. The rare electronic album I enjoyed.
Airy and funky love it
I don't think I had listened to this in full before, but certainly knew some of the songs.
not bad
This was an absolutely delightful listen. True to their artist description on Spotify, this was an album full of sensual, atmospheric electronic jams that threaded a needle between jazzy, spacey, and psychedelic tones. Not the sort of album that really demanded my attention, but one that made for amazing background music. Really enjoyed the jazzy opener La femme d'argent; weird spacey jam of Sexy Boy; Daft Punk-ish Remember; and sprawling warble of Le voyage de Penelope. For me this falls in a solid 4 category.
Great album to listen to while cooking khoa soi. Not as good as Virgin Suicides which I listened to right afterwards, but still fantastic. Great trippy album
4.5
Really pleasant. Groovy, not what I would expect from an electronic album
This is way cooler than I thought it would be and I am very glad I came across it. I probably won’t listen to it regularly, but if you’re looking for this vibe, it is very, very good.
I've always wondered why this album, in particular, became so popular within this genre. Maybe it's because it's a culmination of all the burgeoning electronic-based sounds of the '90s - be it plunderphonics, or ambient techno from the likes of groups out of Warp Records, or trip hop groups like Portishead and Massive Attack. And even though I didn't think much of it back when I first heard it a few years back, I do think it does an exceptional job at capturing the magic of '90s electronic music, in all its aged glory. There's a bit of everything in this album, and it somehow still manages to sound mostly cohesive - comfortably lying in this very AIRy and chill space, giving the record the apt genre tag of downtempo. I do think they wear their influences on their sleeves a bit too obviously, but it's nothing too heinous; they do enough interesting things here that make it all worthwhile. For one, the shrieking noise bit (which I think is just an electric guitar?) on 'Sexy Boy' is such a cool sonic motif and honestly makes that entire track super iconic - it's my favorite here. And the orchestral bit in 'Talisman' is jaw-droppingly gorgeous and reminds me of something Daft Punk would go on to do on RAM, 15 years after this was released. And speaking of their contemporaries and fellow Frenchies Daft Punk, the whole vocoder thing on a few of these tracks is obviously super Daft Punk-y, but I quite liked the melodies generally, especially on 'Remember'. And I guess I didn't notice this the first time around, but the jazz and R&B influences are very subtly and nicely baked into these songs. Especially whenever Beth Hirsch is on vocals, sounding like a fusion of Beth Gibbons and Sade in the best way possible. Really solid debut with obviously high production value. To bring RAM by Daft Punk up again, this really does sound like the '90s version of that album in how it takes electronic music and pushes it to a completely different, pristine realm in not only a celebration of one particular genre, but music as a whole.
8/10 This is an album that I know very well. It’s an excellent blend of electronica, jazz and pop that for the most part works equally well as background music as it does with a more focused ear. Air create sumptuous sound beds, with evolving synth lines and pads, sweeping string arrangements, and wonderful elements of ear candy that provide nuance and momentum to their arrangements. And amongst all that, they have a really good ear for melody. Whether focusing on a jazzy Rhodes piano, a close mic’d intimate vocal or even a tuba, in the case of Ce Matin La, they deliver real moments of melodic and harmonic quality that dance and wander in and out of the weave of the other instrumentation. I think the bass is probably also an underrated element of Air’s work. They write strong and mobile bass lines that give solid drive to their tracks, and form a rolling base that allows the other elements to flutter in and out and provide the airy top to that strong foundation. There are moments on the album where the momentum does dip a little, and that focused listening experience can drift a little into something a bit more repetitive and slightly less defined, but those moments often serve as palette cleansers between the more focused, hooky tracks that steal the attention back and engage the ear. At its best, this is brilliant, at its worst, it’s still very enjoyable and I’ll no doubt be back with it again in the not too distant future. La Femme D'Argent - That bass line is just so good. This track eases its way through movements and sections with such an ease. There are solo sections that offer delicate and nuanced performances, some really lovely bits of synth programming and ear candy and a beautiful build of soundscaping that delivers depth and smooth quality. It’s easy to dismiss this as background music, but there’s a lot more to it than that to my ear, and it doesn’t drag at all for a 7 minute song. Sexy Boy - Quality. Another great bass line, that high pitched ringing tone that responds to the first bass note is beautifully well placed. There’s some really lovely ascending chord progressions in the electric pianos. The structure has form almost of a dancefloor track, and there’s still an edge of that to the production, but it just wraps you up in a warm, jazzy cloud rather than thumping you with energy. The Moog solo is brilliant in such a lazy way and plays really nicely against the Rhodes. There are so many lovely bits of playing and composition that reveal themselves under the surface. All I Need - Some more lovely synth work to open this up and then a really deft little guitar line. There’s perhaps a little less depth to the production here, but Beth Hirsh’s vocal is lovely, with some great backing vocal pieces thrown in here and there to back it up. It’s a pretty pop song infused with that electronic edge that gives it a flavourful twist. Kelly Watch The Stars - There’s almost a fierce edge to the bass here, which gives things a bit of bite. There’s perhaps a little too much repetitiveness here in the vocal, but there is still some decent variety in the other sections, with the arpeggiated piano and some more bits and pieces of synth work. It’s not the most inventive track on the album, but still a pleasant listen. Talisman - There’s a slow intro to this, but when things ramp up, there’s a really nice shuffle to the beat. This is a track that lacks the musical development that the better songs have. There are some interesting production changes and tweaks of the instrumentation that keep the sound moving along, but the thrust of the composition is a little too centred on the same motif. It’s not bad, but it’s not the strongest either. Remember - This has more of a standard song structure, so maintains more interest as it runs along with the verse / chorus structure adding variation. There’s some lovely interplay between the strings and synths and there's an almost overwhelming depth of sound that modulates the dynamic really nicely. By the end, the spooky synth tone and electric guitar add an extra edge to the flavour too. You Make It Easy - Beth Hirsch is back and this is another beautiful effort. The bass line continues driving the song, and the rest of the instrumentation provides a bed, but allows space for the vocal to breathe. The strings are great here, and again the little bits of ear candy, primarily synth based, just give an extra layer of audio interest and depth to the production. Another great alt-pop song. Ce Matin La - Just the bass alone against the shaker gives this a body bouncing start, which drops away into some really pretty string and synth work. And then when things drop back in, the Tuba link is perfect in its simplicity. It’s such a strong hook in its soft, lilting delivery, set against the arpeggiated guitar. This is just a really lovely track. It has an uplifting, almost ethereal vibe to it. It’s just lovely. New Star In The Sky - This holds itself back and weaves around lightly for a while and then drops into a really gentle groove. It’s got a nice hook to it, but perhaps does wander off a little too much here and there. It’s really beautiful background music, but perhaps loses the the thread a little too much to be as engaging as some of the other tracks. Le Voyage De Penelope - More laid back, jazzy work. There’s some really nice synth work in here with the modulating depth of the LFO. It could be overdone, but there’s enough surrounding musical work to allow it to not overwhelm. It’s not a spectacular track, but it’s still a nice blend of sounds to close things out.
Nice and mellow, just what I was looking for today.
Great album
I didn’t really appreciate these guys, but I’ve now listened to them quite a bit, and I’ve been turned, like so much of their stuff🤣🥳
The vibes are just so fucking good, felt like I was taken on a real journey, a safari if you will. Music I wouldn't usually listen too but I just really enjoyed it!!
Another album from someone I'm not familiar with. To be honest, I didn't enjoy it on my first listen. But it seems like you have to be at the right place at the right time...and in the right mood to appreciate it. I really enjoy listening to New Star In The Sky, followed by Le Voyage de Penelope. The bassline is great, and the vocals are surreal. It felt like it took me to another dimension and floated with the stars. However, I can't believe they compared this album to Daft Punk's Homework. They are completely different! Favorite tracks: La femme d'argent, New Star In The Sky, Le Voyage de Penelope
Love this album. Bought it when it came out. Good to give it a jolly good listening to again
I am but a simple man who prefers Talkie Walkie
Easiest listening of my whole year thus far.
8/10 - amazing relaxed French electro synth, some classics on this
one of the few electronic albums that I really like
Great album, very enjoyable to listen to
Classy chillout music. Very relaxing.
A chill electronic classic. Air make electronic music that’s engaging, catchy, pleasing, and so very French.
Zaskakująco przyjemna elektronika. I to drugi dzień z rzędu. Chyba nic nie mam do elektroniki, jeśli bywa czasem okraszona pięknym wokalem. Wtedy wszystko nabiera innego wymiaru. 6.5/10 równane w górę.
Great background music
Pretty good but not quite a 4
Pretty great electronic work here. If you're into that sort of thing you'll enjoy this
A chill way to end the week with this electronica dream-scape. Best: Sexy Boy Worst: Ce martin la
Massive album. Utter classic. Deeply loved. But my heart says four.
mid 4
Thought the generator could get away with giving me a 2nd Air album after only 4 days? Think again. This is definitely better than the Virgin Suicides soundtrack.
i was having a huge moment with this album earlier this year, just listening to it on repeat for two weeks straight, although now i can’t remember what prompted this fixation. the opening track gives me the same sensation as when i’m in an airplane just as the wheels first lift off the runway. i do think listening to ‘sexy boy’ one trillion times when i was fifteen or sixteen gave me some kind of irreversible brain damage but i don’t regret it! fav tracks: la femme d’argent; sexy boy; talisman; you make it easy; ce matin-là; kelly watch the stars
This was so cool, I enjoyed this a lot. It was ambient while still being really engaging. Fav tracks: Sexy Boy, Ce matin-la, Le voyage de Penelope
This album is pretty good. All the layers and textures in there are very well developed. It adds a lot, as it's such a nice immersive experience, sometimes not that interesting but, overall, a very pleasant listening.
I really dig "Sexy Boy" off Moon Safari. After that, the album is so chill it does not care what rating I give it. Three to five. Whatever, man.
despite the fact that the points are made up and don't matter, i feel terribly conflicted between a four and five star rating for this album. on the one hand, it hits so many arbitrary personal affinities of mine that i have to wonder if i'm secretly the result of some lab experiment where an evil (read: french) mad scientist was trying to artificially synthesize the kind of person who would love everything about moon safari. but yet, after several front to back listens, i feel bereft and left wanting more from this album. like, the mad scientist did too good of a job and i find moon safari just a bit passe now. but that's just how it is on this bitch of an earth!! highlights - la femme d'argent, sexy boy, kelly watch the stars, talisman, ce matin-là
I don’t usually like the ambient/electronic albums but I really enjoyed this
Sexy Boy is an amazing song. Daft Punk had to be inspired by the vocals.
4.25/5 first time listen rly impressed mixing 60s doors like organ pieces with 70s punk great sound some great songs
The best way I can sum up this album is to say that Air is the perfect name for this band as that’s what the music sounds like. Like the soundtrack to an old 70’s Romance film. Very good background music or to chill out with when the party’s winding down.
Parte B do álbum a melhor de todas uau!!! 8,5/10
Super cool album, smooth and great for a peaceful setting and slowing down the oace. Air was one of the first artists I got on this and now it’s one of the last! I do this this is better than the other album, it has more range and depth.
4-5
some great singles
Gorgeous warm bath of an album
Good, but i wish they song were longer than 40 mins per album
Loved it.
Huh? You want me to listen to Air? I hear the wind like all the time bro. What? Moon Safari? Yeah I guess the moon is pretty far man.
Funky French vibe
Guter Sound der 90er
Pleasant space background album. Now I know what music I will code my game to
Standouts La Femme D'Argent All I Need Talisman Le Voyage de Penelope
Finally a decent electronic album
I did not hate it, would play it again if I was stoned at staring at the sky or something
Very introspective listen. Atmospheric but with enough going on musically to keep me engaged.
a breath of fresh AIR on this generator list FR
very awesome Fav song: Ce matin-la
Air a dat Sexy boy care imi aminteste de Queer as Folk
Solid album, seems to lay the ground work for groups like The Avalanches.
Nice vibes! I'm hovering between 3 and 4 stars...
Very atmospheric, parts feel like a better version of the Daft Punk later pop era, but maybe I'm only saying that because they're both French who knows. Some songs like the first 2 have a very specific quality like they are music form a spy film or something, especially the first one with the Rhodes keyboard. It really doesn't feel like you can put this into a certain genre box, as its kind of all over the place, but in the best way possible. The synths and stuff are amazing also, I feel like I'm saying that all the time with albums, but notably the string and pad stuff, which could actually be real strings or samples. I also sort of like how the vocals aren't realty the focus of the album, and its more focused on atmosphere and instrumentation. It also feels like somewhat of a continuation from the more atmospheric stuff Kraftwerk did (like Neon Lights and Computer world), as some of that has a lot in common with this. Favourite songs: all. Overall around 8/10 (so close to 9)
Kind of like an old school version of Massive Attack
Its a good album
I liked it. Nice and chill
Probably wouldn't listen to any of these songs by themselves but the album as a whole is really nice.
This isn't my kind of music at all but I really like this album.
Chill cool album
I remember Sexy Boy and this band but had not heard any albums. I am a fan of French electronic music and this did not disappoint. While I generally prefer songs with lyrics each instrumental song was a separate interesting entity. The music makes you feel like you are floating peacefully, but also invigorated at the same time, that sort of effect is difficult to achieve highlighting that the high acclaim this album got upon release was not misjudged.
Cool example of 90's electronica
Superb
It was good. Funny how some tracks had only one phrase as lyrics for the whole track. It was a bit relaxing kinda music. My fav - Kelly watch the stars
In a cheeky way, this sounds like if Persona 5’s OST had been composed by Daft Punk -- a gorgeous blend I never knew I needed, and somehow predating Discovery's release! I guess the French electronic touch was just that good at that time. Gorgeous stuff overall, and all of the instrumentals are immaculate. It juuuust misses the 5 because a few vocal tracks don’t quite stick with me as much as the highlights. Standouts: Femme D'Argent, La • Sexy Boy • Ce Matin La • Voyage De Penelope, Le
An album i REALLY like, but i still wish more of the songs were like Sexy Boy. I frequently forget about this album for months but it always feels fresh and new when I pick it up again.
5 stars
This was a cool discovery!
I had forgotten how many of these songs I remembered. This stands out from other similar records from the time. I guess because it is full of surprises and works as an album. Strong 4/5
3.5 A frustrating album. Namely for how good it starts off, I recognised Sexy Boy obviously, but after 3 tracks it was like my god, why wasn't I bopping along to this when I was 10 alongside Moby, Daft Punk, Fat Boy Slim, etc. Sadly it very quickly petered out, got very direction less and generally unexciting, something which also plagued those aforementioned bands with hindsight. Only on ce-matin la did it ever get anywhere near those initial heights but not good enough to save the album. Good, but had so much more potential.
Sometimes you need to slow down and relax in the vibe.
Not bad, but the extra star is 100% because of the other reviews
Rating: 8.5/10 This album makes me feel like a sexy boy that's floating in the clouds. Favorite song: Sexy Boy.
This album has a nice atmosphere to it, and all the songs have their own unique trait that makes them stand out.
Initial scan I just thought more average than I expected given how much I like certain Air songs, and the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, etc. After a full listen seems like one of those albums you can effortlessly listen to any time even if there aren't specific tracks that really, really stood out to me. An above average album where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts (for me). Chose "La femme d'argent" (the opening track) and "Ce matin-lá" for the playlist.
There's no better album to put on when you're up past your bed time and need something to come down to. Eclectic though these sounds are, they all speak to a painful, happy and above all highly recognizable nostalgia - like it's something that could provide the soundtrack to your last day by the seaside with distant family that you might never see again. It's soothing but a little sad.
Pretty insane electronic album, not going to lie. It had a lot of songs I’ve listened to and recognized. Think it was really pushing the boundaries when it was released. Good alternative to Daft Punk, which is one of my favorite electronic artists. Vibes are good and beats are creative.
Chill #chill 78/100
chill
Took me a few songs to catch the vibe, but once I did I really appreciated the mellow sounds. Will definitely revisit this one.
Starting off pretty darn strong with La femme d'argent. Its ridiculously good bassline refuses to get old, even after seven minutes. The synths wash over you, fading in one side and out the other, creating a spacey (or hyper-futuristic, or both) atmosphere. Later on the album, we encounter All I Need, which is straight coolness. Again we see a strong (and this time more acoustic) bassline, backing a beautifully airy combo of Hirsch's vocal and high strings. The mix is stripped back but also close and intimate: you can really hear every instrument in detail. The strongest track on the album. Ce matin-là is a surprisingly similar track, having essentially the same instrumentation but with the vocals swapped out for soft, melodic brass. And a happier, freer, but less airy feel. A very pretty track that's hard to fault. One noticeably weaker track is Remember because of its irritating synth-robot-vocal that repeats the track title over and over... and over... Otherwise, it blends into the standard space rock genre that's been done hundreds, thousands of times before. Sexy Boy is also a little questionable because it's so directly and irrevocably cheesy. The vocal is either broken up and underwatery, or else muted/self-harmonised/a straight-up "emo murmur". (You'll understand what I mean if you give the track a listen.) It's a bit of a dated vocal unless it has the instrumentation to justify it, but seeing that the synths and drums reek of 70s space rock, it doesn't quite work. (Yes, the same reasoning can apply to all the other tracks. Yes, I'm being nitpicky.) Overall, the album is very strong and much less exhaustingly "dancey" than artists like Daft Punk or the Chemical Brothers. But that does mean it lacks some energy and punch compared to its contemporaries. 4/5 Key tracks: La femme d'argent, All I Need, Ce matin-là
wasn't sure what to expect here but i really liked this. great music to work to.
Heerlijk album. Super uitgesproken stijl en heerlijk om al liggend op bed naar te luisteren. Minder geschikt onder het werken :-(
I'm familiar with this album but this is only the second time I've listened to it fully through. Very familiar with Sexy Boy due to one of those Lynx ad that was played around the clock. The range of styles and instruments on display deserves praise alone. It's not often I seek out something like this with so many slow tempo instrumentals but I can appreciate it. I was thinking a 3 but going with 3.5/5 because it deserves a place on the list and like it or not it stands out from the crowd. Raising to 4.
Started off great. Didn't really care for things again until “Talisman”.
Very cool
3.5
Lofi before it was cool. Ambient soundscape, easy to think to. I feel a little more French with each track.
Really digging this album. I’d listened to it before, but with fresh ears I’m appreciating it more. It feels dated, but like it’s from the 2008, not 1998. Great album for starting work on a sunny Monday morning in my cozy office with a fresh cup of tea.
great
As a general fan of the French touch sound in electronic music this had some great moments in it but didn’t quite pull me in as much as I hoped it might
Good album from a very underrated 90's band. They're still touring and I'd go see them in a second. You gotta like "airy" keyboard-centric electronic chill but they're great to have on at a party or in the background, they won't offend and people will ask "who are we listening to?" Kicks off with the relaxing "La Femme D'Argent" and roll into the wonderful "Sexy Boy" then right into their biggest hit with "All I Need" featuring Beth Hirsch on vocals. They're huge in France but this album has a really solid listen count with the first 3 tracks I mentioned all at 100M listens and every other song with between 12M and 35M, those are very good numbers (especially compared to some of the questionable albums on this list!) so it's held up well and still gets airplay. No radio hits from this album but a very nice contribution to 90's music. There's literally not a bad song on the album, some do sound similar but none are clunkers or worthy of a skip. I might toss "You Make It Easy" but it's still a nice song. It's an original sound, it stands up well even today, it's still popular and it's good from top to bottom. I'd give it 4 stars.
Ok. So. I’m a fan of Air and was expecting to give this, their most famous album, big points. I particularly enjoy their playful, squelchy pop songs (like Sexy Boy and Kelly Watch the Stars) and their emotional slow-burners (like Venus and Playground Love). Moon Safari features a couple of the former but is short on the latter, and most of the rest is made up of the kind of mid-tempo easy listening fare that contains more than a whiff of ‘dinner party background music’, which I’m always a bit snooty about. With that in mind this feels more like a 3.5 star album than a masterpiece… but I will round up because they do it with such style, and as dinner party background music goes, you can’t do much better than this.
This one is pure vibes, ngl i love that.
Love this album!
