I love Tom's grungy voice on the upbeat stuff, but I'm not fond of the slower songs, and the way the album keeps flip-flopping between the two is jarring
When I asked for music to swing to this isn't what I meant
UK Garage is very dear to me, it brings me back to a simpler time, where Pokemon was taking the world by storm and a big dome along with a big wheel was being built in London, my childhood was spent listening to a CD of remixed singles by The Artful Dodger every morning before going to primary school.
That said, it's difficult to represent a "UK garage" album in this list because the genre was made for singles from various artists to be mixed together, (Garage overlaps with House so often you'd get mixes with stuff like Closer Than Close by Rosie Gaines) an album from one artist doesn't capture the surprise and diversity the genre typically offers. MJ Coles stuff, in particular, is more on the mellow side.
For a better Garage experience I recommend looking into stuff like DJ Spoony's mixes on youtube.
Very hypnotic soundscapes, I love it!
Not every song works and its commentary on feminism is unrefined, but I do appreciate the sassy energy the girls bring
This is very nostalgic for me, my parents had this CD at the back of a cabinet, one day I dug it out, started listening, and then held onto it for a while. This album, along with songs in the key of life, is what hooked me onto Stevie Wonder
Aside from My Girl every song sounds the same
Begins as rather ho-hum before unfolding into an epic journey of sound. A tour-de-force!
A harrowing nosedive into the bowels of hell
I was enjoying it right up to A Quick One While He's Away and then I set fire to my computer
Nice music but the lyrics sound like they picked random words out of a hat
Audacious, fiery, unrelenting, calls to mind the works of the dadaist period, the musical equivalent of drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
So bland and inoffensive it's torturous.
I think The Human Beings may be the most annoying song ever written
Pretty good, nothing on par with Paper Planes though
Prelvis Esley by Elvisesly Preselvisesly
It's fine to take your daughter to the fairground or buy her some shoes every now and then, but maybe leave it at that.
If I'm listening to Ol' Blue Eyes I'd opt for a greatest hits album. Good music all the same though.
Electrical retailer advert
I can't believe they ripped off the Top of the Pops theme ugh god
I can see how this genre of music influenced videos games around the time, very Jungley/Breakcorey. Not something I'd listen to casually though.
He sounds like a bicycle pump
+ Good music.
- Live album.
What do you mean you don't have your own sex dwarf?
This is some good Y2K nostalgia right here
His voice sounds like a creaky metal door that's in need of oiling
Psycho Killer is a standout, overall not as good as their later albums I think
Not bad, Graveyard Train was a drag though
On The Beach is a great track, otherwise a bit too twangy and sleepy for me
This music sounds the way analingus tastes
Not his best album but the worst of Stevie Wonder is better than most other artists
Good album, Mind Gardens took me by surprise
This album is great and you guys are too harsh
Find it hard to tell these country albums apart ngl
A whirling, spiked flail of an album. Music to be crushed in an iron maiden to.
I just don't like hair rock. Yes, I'm bias, I know, no-one's perfect.
"I'm not a porcupine, take off your kids gloves" is unintentionally hilarious
Don't like this album? Cry me a river!
Pretty good but it is a very long album and I got a bit fatigued toward the end
As someone whose musical taste growing up had been largely determined by video games and Capital FM, I am so happy I'm discovering Radiohead now.
Both this album and its "sibling" Amnesiac are among my favourite albums on this list. I can see why most prefer this album between the two, it covers a wider emotional range, moving from uneasy to upbeat to uneasy again like lapping waves, wheareas Amnesiac is more "sedate", but as a result I see the two like opposing sides of coin.
Experimental Radiohead is, in my opinion, the best Radiohead. I only wish I discovered this sooner.
Love the manic energy, just not sure I can handle a whole album of it
*Slide whistles down* *Slide whistles up*
Some good songs like Moneys Too Tight To Mention and Holding Back The Years, production is very "80s", I prefer the later albums.
Most of the tracks are a little too sleepy for my liking, but damn A Natural Woman is a good song
Interesting to listen to this point in her life where her style is still being refined into what we remember her for today.
Blood-curdling, audacious, unforgettable! Some of these tracks sound straight out of a horror movie, Hamburger Lady particularly lingers in the mind long after the album finishes. Not everyone will click with the dark, noisy style of this album, but thank goodness it clicked for me.
Was hovering at 3, Elegia pushed it up to 4
Good album, Kids was kinda ruined for me due to being used constantly in adverts
Bonita Applebum is seriously catchy I've listened to it like ten times in the last hour
I can indulge in some good rage-inducing music but at times this felt a bit one-note.
I don't really think I can handle an hour and half of dissonant, seesawing vocals and tinny harmonica sounds
The talking-in-rhythm-with-a-raspy-voice gimmick is amusing for 45 seconds but I'm not doing a whole album of this
Very nolstalgic! Can't Hold Us Down, Fighter, Beautiful, Dirrty and The Voice Within are standouts.
Aside from Rio and Hungry like the Wolf there isn't really anything here that'll keep me coming back.
An epic journey of love, hate and gleeful weirdness.
Annoying sound effect ruined it for me
Look at all these yanks getting their knickers in a twist over britpop lol
Whole album is great, not just Take Me Out
Not wild about it, don't hate it, Here, There and Everywhere was my favourite
Purple Rain and also some other songs
So many iconic songs! (I'd like to thank Shark Tale for introducing me to Three Little Birds)
The title song is great, I do appreciate the poetic lyrics and low, gravely vocals, I'm just not sure I can listen to a whole album of it.
Actually not Garbage, I liked it a lot.
As I predicted the top rated comments miss the mark by a country mile. You can make anything seem unimpressive if you box it in with a simple word like "repetitive". How is that in any way helpful? Why not try "infectious", "energizing" or "blood-pumping"? I find those words do a much better job at capturing the appeal of this music.
This is the kind of music I didn't think much of in my youth but came to appreciate in time. Dizzee Rascal basically pioneered an entire genre and this album is a lot of fun to listen to.
I think Renaissance is her best album but I love this too
26 years on it still manages to sound totally unique. It's like a journey through a dreamy, chrome-covered utopia from a distance future.
Maybe it's the nostalgia talking but I really do enjoy Madonna's experimental era. The title track, Don't Tell Me and What It Feels Like for a Girl are the highlights here.
Love Head Will Roll, lukewarm on the rest
Decent, Angels and Let Me Entertain You are the highlights
Remember when people campaigned to have "Killing in the Name" beat the X Factor winner for that years Christmas number one single and then it did? Good times.
Funny that the best track is the hidden track
I'm positive every album on this site rated lower than 2.75 is in fact an underappreciated masterpiece (not you Kid Rock).
Imagine how incredible it must have been to see the robots live. Long live Daft Punk
Very unique listening experience
That's some metally music alright
Catchy tunes, very bluesy, could do with more emotional heft
The music videos are creative I'll give them that
Some good music ruined by the annoying singing saw
First track and All I Want To Do are great, the rest didn't quite live up to it
Some good melodies and an ecclectic mix of styles, does get a bit bogged down under its own weight.
I do like dreamy shoegaze music but I kind of need to be in the right headspace for it
There's some interesting artistry going on here, Codex particularly stands out, but I do wish there was less high pitched wailing.
Lukewarm on this, sort of appreciated the folky-ness, mostly found it a bit bland plus the production is very of its time. The opening ten seconds of Greenman sound hilarious.
Everybody's Talking is the standout, mainly because of Midnight Cowboys, otherwise most of this makes me kind of sleepy.
Love Walk on the Wild Side!
A little too Avant Garde even for me
Rolling Stones never illicits anything more than a shrug out of me. Glad for those who can find the enthuisiasm I lack or something.
Sometimes all I want to do is to crack open a can of highly concentrated angst and mania and watch in delight as it sprays over every unfortunate object in its path. This album satiates that desire perhaps a little too well.
I like it, some catchy, futuristic beats here. Kind of sounds like early 2000s Sega games
Floating through space wooooo
Good noisy nihilism for the whole family
An important album for the UK queer scene in the 80s
It's cute, not what I usually listen to (except for the tracks played on the radio all the time) but I enjoy it
FINISH - THE DIAMOND STANDARD
Satire is all well and good but this albums satire is lost on me as a present day listener and doesn't have much else going for it.
Standard blues rock sounds and me no like Clapton
Don't usually like country but I do like this
Androgynous is a song very ahead of its time.
Pretty decent as background noise for your office
First half is a lot better than second half
There are worse things to listen to at your office job on a Monday morning
I like the shifts from floaty to pacey and back to floaty again, unique listening experience.
Nothing "Whatever" about this album!
Love There She Goes, the rest is just ok
The Look of Love is great, the rest...well I'm sure Dad loves it.
Fuck yes, I can go til 6 in the morning with this!
"Don't" is a fantastic angst-symphony
Starts fine then gets annoying, didn't finish
Musical arrangements are nice, not crazy for the droll, nasally voice, doesn't help that the songs are very long.
I love it when artists treat music like a lab to experiment with new ideas and emotions which is exactly what Barry Adamson seems to be doing here.
Every track brings something new and surprising, almost like walking through one of those interactive museums your parents took you to as a child
