Reviews (page 7 of 14)
Nice debut for this French electronica duo. I like their integration of analog instruments and not just relying on the electronic components like so many others in this genre do. I never realized that "All I Need" was from this duo.

Didn’t realise I knew any of this bands music till I heard them! Cool vibe of an album, reminds of me the Riviera (even though I’ve never been there!). Bond film vibes at times too, don’t know why!
I knew a couple of the songs already (Sexy Boy and Kelly Watch the Stars) as they received a fair bit of airtime on alternative radio back in the day. The rest of the album is in the same vein. This is music that's about mood and atmosphere more than meaning. Somehow this manages to sound both retro and futuristic simultaneously. It's certainly an interesting listen, although I felt it started to outstay its welcome after a while.
Sublime
Chill trip hop electronic lp
Peaceful and vibey and cool. A nice find.
This was a good discovery for me. I preferred the instrumental pieces more than vocal pieces, but it was overall really pleasing. Never expected to like it from the description.
This sort of music just glides completely off my brain. I enjoy it fine enough when listening to it, but I never remember any of it afterwards. I’ve been thinking about Since I Left You by The Avalanches, because I said multiple times during my review of that album that I appreciated it a lot, and gave it four stars. But I don’t remember any of it, and that’s exactly how I’m feeling about Moon Safari even as I listen to it. This is all pretty good, the bass work is especially fantastic, but I forget what each song sounded like as soon as the next one comes on. It’s like The Silence from Doctor Who. I also came to a realisation when listening to New Star In The Sky. I’ve said before that I’m not a naturally relaxed person, but this album reminded me that I’m also a real paranoid bastard when I do start to relax, because I’m sure something’s gonna go wrong at some point. So, all in all, I enjoyed it while listening. It’s a good album, I’m just not going to remember any of it tomorrow
I pretty much vibed with the whole thing. Was surprised I even knew a few of the songs already when the band Air had no name recognition from me. Will probably return to this again in the future. 4/5
Sexy Boy Personal Favourite: La Femme d’Argent
i actually really mess with this
Really strong ambient electronic breeze. It's 25 years old but could be made today. The end of the album flames out a bit compared to the first half.
This has to be one of the most perfectly named bands. Their music always feels like it’s just floated in from the ether.
At its best, it's one of the greatest electronic albums I've heard. However, it's sound isn't consistent enough to sustain that greatness for its entire run-time
Hearing these songs bought back memories of a student radio station ("The Spark") in 1998.
Fantastic vibe and great album
Super easy to listen to. I liked it, but not a ton.
Good album! It has some weird 90s EuroRap but otherwise I like it! 3.75/5
A very strong album from the French electronic revolution.
Sappy-yet-catchy, pure essence of wafty 2000s french synth pop wussiness. Quite decent for all that.
They got me with Sexy Body (it was in 10 Things I Hate About You). The artist name and album fit, they was something very celestial and aethereal about the music overall.
I recognize some of these songs, kind of a blast from the past. The album is really beautiful and complex … deep and rich. It’s also super chill and dreamy. Feels like something you could really get lost in. Kinda loved it.
Very chill, great vibes Favorites: "Sexy Boy", "Talisman", "Ce matin-là", "Le voyage de Pénélope"
Bra instrumental
Surprisingly not bad?? I didn’t think I would like it, but it’s like funky daft punk??? Sort of a trip to listen to.
Very cool French techno. Solid, chill listen
Great stuff. It's chill electronica that's perfect to work to or relax to, sort of an early precursor to the lo-fi beats study music that YouTube would eventually popularize. I wasn't aware of this group but I'll be returning to this album in the future. Also I find it kind of funny that on the album cover, next to the band and album name, it just says "French Band." I also listened to the very faithful whole-album Moon Safari cover by Dave Depper from 2021 and enjoyed that as well.
I really like the chill vibe of this album, I have this CD still somewhere.
The marriage of electronic and acoustic throughout this album makes it an addictive tracklist. While overall everything is pretty down-tempo, low-fi, and chill - it certainly doesn’t mean it isn’t engaging. In fact you would be rewarded for giving ‘Moon Safari’ a few listens because there is so much going on, yet no one element is overpowering the other. The opening track ‘La femme d’argent’ does an excellent job in setting the mood. It’s atmosphere, jazz, and acoustic elements all combining to take you on an eclectic journey of moods and melodies. Almost like it’s a 7 minute preview of what is to come. The tracks featuring vocals by Beth Hirsch are absolute standouts. Her voice matches exactly what the French duo are trying to execute here. By far their most melodic and acoustic works on the album. Yet still containing the depth and complexity of the production. The haunting’ Talisman’, the ethereal ‘Kelly Watch The Stars, the jazzy ‘Ce matin-là’, the spacey ‘New Star In The Sky’. There is just so much packed into its 10 tracks that I’m absolutely amazed ‘Moon Safari’ doesn’t feel overstuffed or overindulgent. ‘Moon Safari’, if possible, would probably be best listened to on an actual sound system. It really is a 45 minute experience that will most certainly paint a world inside your head as it goes on; and how vibrant that world is will depend on how powerful the sound you’re working with is. This album is one of the “gold standard” examples of an entire genre; in this case electronica. Even if it’s not quite your cup of tea, it should be listened to by anyone who enjoys similar works.
Q raved about this, but Sexy Boy was such a perverse choice for lead off single that I only got round to it the year later, Kelly Watch the Stars and All I need were released as singles. An aside. The Olympics closing ceremony was sharp reminder that the Brits have always done pop better than their Gallic cousins. If Air had done their mash up with Daft Punk rather than Phoenix, I may have been moved to rethink this position, though...
Как ни странно, мне прям понравилось
Good stuff. I enjoyed this.
Really good. I’d definitely listen to this again
2 days in succession with bands I have never heard of who turn out to pretty interresting and enjoyable. I also looked up the singer on 2 of the tracks on this album and she too (Beth Hirsch) turn out to be pretty interresting and enjoyable. So 3 new artists/bands to listen to in 2 days is pretty good.
Instant heist mood
Always had a soft spot for Air, and this is one of their best. It's laid back style helps you drift off on a journey. The vocals of Beth Hirsch proves an excellent match to their music. 4/5
Atmospheric cool Drips as chill background music But fades too easy
interesting beats and trance like grooves that just made the world melt around the listener. Crazy good album and can see why they're so influential.
Super groovy!
See? I can like electronica! I just like it trippy and downtempo. I’ve always loved La femme d’argent, and I really dug the tracks that sounded like it here. The rest was pretty whatever.
Key tracks are the opener, "Sexy Boy", and "Talisman". I wish I had discovered Air sooner. These Frenchies are cool as hell. I was into the other Frenchies, Daft Punk, but this is a way more chill and sexy version of electronic music. I need to breathe more Air.
Fun 👍
peaceful.
This sound is pretty common now, but back when it was released, I remember how different this sounded from what was popular at the time. Recall that 1998 was the same year that Gettin Jiggy Wit It and Tubthumping were two of the top songs. This was a fresh breeze, in comparison.
I like this album. Chill but innovative and a sense of humour too.
Classic and classy
One of the best chill out albums ever. 9/10
Really enjoyed this! A lot better than the previous Air album I got. 4/5
Some funky beats and sweet jams. This shit rocks
Trippy, catchy and cool. I expected the songs to turn negative and whiny but they did not. A perfect album to have on while working at a computer. I love it when this project turns up music/artists I never would have heard otherwise!
++: La Femme d'argent, All I Need, Kelly Watch the Stars, Remember, Le Voyage de Pénélope +: Sexy Boy, Talisman, You Make It Easy, Ce matin-là, New Star in the Sky 9,1/10
I knew more off this album than I thought I did. Really great all the way through, reminds me of DJ Shadow in places. Stand out tracks: - Sexy boy - All I need - Kelly watch the stars - Talisman - Ce martin-la
this isnt something id normally listen to so it really surprised me how much i liked it
Beautiful atmospheric late nineties French well electronica. Has aged so much better than contemporaries like Fat Boy Slim. Anticipates the sound Theivery Corporation made their brand. Tres bon!
Not something I would put on my own playlist, but it's good. Sounds very French. And it is. It was over before it started to annoy me. Favorite song: ce matin-la
Talk about being shocked by an album. I didn't have any clue what I was getting into and I grooved for over 40 minutes. Pleasantly surprised by this one
Super cool album, though I am with gideon about the songs with vocals being more exciting.
I was slightly weirded out when this album came up, because I had just been talking about the song "Sexy Boy" a few days earlier (after having no idea who sang it and looking it up). I wasn't sure what to expect based on knowing that one song, but I actually liked this album more than I thought I would. It has elements of electronica, but it's not as repetitive or obnoxious as a lot of electronica. It also has elements of chill lo-fi that I don't mind. It reminds me of Massive Attack but with a bit more pop sensibility to it, a dash of Daft Punk electronica, and some Cardigans sexiness. "Sexy Boy" and the two Beth Hirsch songs, "All I Need" and "You Make It Easy" are the highlights on this album. On "All I Need" she has kind of a Mariah Carey vibe that I liked a lot. On the latter song, her vocals mesh with the mellow music to create a Sade-like vibe. I was trying to figure out why "Ce Matin La" sounded so familiar and finally realized it was on the soundtrack to The Virgin Suicides (apparently Air scored the entire movie as well). It's a beautiful song. I'm not sure if the album is really revolutionary enough to be included on this list, but it's certainly a standout among contemporary artists of the genre. I'll be generous and give it a 4/5, though it's probably more of a 3.5
liked it more than I expected
Lovely album and great driving music by Air. Nostalgic too for me, I can still remember the brilliant video clip with table tennis. Makes me revisit the summer of 1998 again.
Bought this on CD 25 years ago and have listened regularly since. It is a classic
On the 4th, I was expecting to be handed Springsteen, or something similar. Instead, I got a French electronic group with their SECOND album on the list. On top of that, I somehow knew a song pretty well. Most shocking is, this was totally deserved. Great album overall.
4.5
nice electronic lounge music
Every song seemed to have a completely alternative feel from the previous, yet it works conceptually and can be easily listened to within the album format. Good album. Interesting style
Never heard of Air. Nothing earth-shattering, quite the opposite. But very chill. I'll be listening to this more.
Ethereal electronic ocean. Perfect for Saturday afternoons, laying on the couch with your head hanging over the edge.
Alto viaje
Awesome trip full of flavors.
Great downtime album.
8/10, gostei desse álbum do Air.
How did I not hear this album before now!?
Absolute vibes!!!
This was perfect WFH music! I typically hate stuff without lyrics but actually really enjoyed this and wil likely return to it.
The first time I listened to this was on another of these long greatest album lists. I remember being shocked at how good it was. That feeling still remains.
Pretty good.
A classic
Muy bueno
You walk into a bar and this is on the speakers: you're not getting a cocktail for under $20
6/17/24. This is my second album of Air's that I listened to. Compared to the follow up on this one, I enjoyed this one more. A little more upbeat and loved the vocals.
I liked this a lot more than I expected to! Yes it’s electronica, but it’s also very layered, atmospheric and chill. It’s the kind of music that you can put on in the background and still get pulled in every so often by haunting vocals, good percussion or something sonically compelling and experimental. It veers occasionally into almost silly 60s sci-fi effects and can start sounding like soundtrack music, but it’s the soundtrack of a very cool movie you wish was your life.
Nice
My favourite track is the opening one; feels very similar to Parcels and their debut. A very solid synthetic sound throughout the album
space-age stoner grooves. ✨️🕺🏻🎹🍸🪐 highlights: sexy boy; all i need. see also: strange news from another star; portishead on mdma; napoleon dynamite's dance routine; spiritualized.
Love air! This album is great :)
What are they giving all these French electronic duos? La femme d'argent - 3.8/5 Sexy Boy - 4.7/5 All Need - 5/5 Kelly Watch the Stars - 5/5 Talisman - 4.6/5 Remember - 3.8/4 You Make It Easy - 3.6/5 Ce matin-là - 3.5/5 New Star in the Sky - 3.8/5 Le voyage de Pénélope - 4.9/5 Total - 4.3/5
nice chill out
First time listener to Air.. and I dig it.
Downtempo, ambient pop. Smooth, easy listening that I can kinda zone out to. But when you focus on it it's clear that it was meticulously created to invoke that vibe. It's great background music but the focus on ambience makes active listening a bit difficult. I can't count against it for that alone, but just something I noticed. Would like to revisit. 4/5
Swishy beats and swanky synths, amazing bass lines, luxurious textures, high gloss production. Somehow it's catchy despite being essentially instrumental lounge music. Music for a montage riding elevators up and down a fancy art deco arcade turned mall wearing some Wes Anderson type outfits.
Some chill Psychedelic vibes. Laid back, easy to listen too. Def from the 90s
....+
Sounds really ahead of its time. These french now some stuff about dance huh. low 4
- vibes off to a good start. de plus ils viennent de Versailles - growing quite fond of how many instrumental albums are a part of this list - big fan of la femme d’argent and kelly watch the stars. - ce matin-la is so beautiful. call and response of the horns (trombones i presume), the feeling of ebb & flow throughout the piece - vocals remind me of daft punk in new star in the sky, but that is just because it’s ‘vaguely european accent through a vocoder’ - what it says on the box. moon safari is a superb name for this album - 4/5 adding to library
I’m not typically a fan of albums with so few lyrics, but this one just screams “rolled down windows riding down A1A”. I downloaded this to my Spotify and plan to do exactly that, all summer long.
Behagelig musikk som passer fint både foran og bak i sinnet ditt :)
Funky, electronic, jazzy album. Very vibrant and distinct. Did not know what I was in for when I saw the first song had a French title. Daft Punk-esq. The album was fun to listen to. Standouts: La femme d’argent, Sexy Boy, Remember, You Make It Easy, New Star In The Sky, and Le voyage de Penelope.
favourite song: sexy boy really enjoyed this, definitely preferred it to the virgin suicides one (although i did seriously enjoy that as well)
I knew and liked Sexy Boy but the rest of the album was new to me - and I really quite liked it... Some chilled / ambienty vibes...
From track 1 alone I was already fairly confident that this would end up something I like. It’s like elevator music for a ride up to space. I’ve been going on a bit of a deep dive into ambient style music whilst studying recently through the likes of Brian Eno, C418, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Floating Points, and some others, and so this really hit the spot for me. Favourite track: All I Need
I own a CD of this album and have listened to it many times. I tried listening to it with a fresh perspective. I assess albums like this based purely on the appeal of the production and the atmosphere, as there isn't much to dig into lyrically. From that perspective, the album is mostly compelling. It's a bit reminiscent of Kraftwork, but has this mellow, almost moody undercurrent throughout. I have always enjoyed the first four songs the most, and for me the album reaches it's zenith with "Kelly Watch the Stars." I've always felt this song captures a special feeling of hope and wonder, like looking at the night sky, realizing how small we are, and taking comfort in that fact. The album lags a bit after that for me. It still works as background music, but it doesn't cause any stirrings in the way that the early album does. I like this album a lot, but it isn't my favorite.
I love this album and it’s a bit of a ‘go-to’ when I want a relaxed background ambience. I was introduced to it by my friend from the USA, Larry, during a scuba diving trip in Egypt. So when I do play it, all my memories of that trip come flooding back. Awesome bass beats and modulation effects - love it. Came back to revisit this one - need an Air track on my 1001 playlist! Came back again and decided to get a track from their other album on the list! - back to 4!
Lots of fun post-rock reminiscent of Mogwai and others. Will revisit several times.
Good album, good background music, but didn't keep my attention.
Didn’t hit as hard as MJ Cole but no skips, very interesting.
If I had a nickel for every time I was amazed by a French electronica duo, I'd have two nickels. That's not a lot, but it's still weird that it happened twice.
Jájá þetta er gott stöff. Mjög þægileg hlustun. Greinilega hellað talented tónlistarmenn þeir frönsku.
very cool album! i had only heard sexy boy before this so imagine my surprise to find they had put out a whole bunch of other tracks with it as well! the whole album was a neat foray into electronic music, atmospheric sounds, and some trippy moments. the production was clean and everything came together nicely. i didn't get as much out of the back half of the album but it started super strong. favorites: la femme d'argent, sexy boy, all i need
You know what? I dug this album. Really chill vibes that were lovely to listen to. I won't give it a five because I don't know if I could just sit there and listen to it while doing nothing else, but you could put this on while doing anything and it'd be more relaxed. Overall a good listening experience.
Super chilled first song - la femme d'argent. Nice electronic sounds with a funky bass line. DAMN, as soon as sexy boy came on, i knew it. Absolute belter. i love the melody and keyboard work. The distortion, awesome. I have no idea what the lyrics are but they are very soothing and fitting for the song. Wow, straight into another banger with the track "all i need". love it. What a opening three songs to the album. FAAAARRRRKKKKK, kelly watch the stars, i know you too!! Again, a very bass driven track with some great keyboard work. A very good start to this album i feel. 2nd half of the album was a different beast. More chilled. Really good album. I enjoyed the first half particularly. Rating 4/5.
one of those albums where I've heard some of the songs before but never knew who they were by. I like it, my kind of chill music
Pretty good tunes for not listening to tunes.
Surprisingly good - chill vibes with some Daft Punk, some Funk. Great for a smoke session.
Brilliant. An immediate hit with me. I hadn't listened to it before. I knew some other chill-out stuff, but these two seem to have had toutes les idées first. Really creative use of all the electronica and some good grooves. Très bon.
I thoroughly enjoyed their vibe and would like to listen to more of their music
Did Super Furry steal "Baby Ate my Eightball" from "Sexy Boy"?
Finally an electronic album that delivers.
Tres pleasant
A good electronic album.
Loved most of the songs, a new favourite was Ce Matin-La.
that was pretty good
Very cool album
As someone who is usually indifferent to both electronica and pop - I fuck with this
Rafraîchissant
one of those albums where I've heard some of the songs before but never knew who they were by. I like it, my kind of chill music
Good
The soundtrack for the Virgin Suicides movie was an interesting one. And it was an album I had a difficulty approaching. I knew Moon Safari would show up eventually, and I was prepared to dive into a strange sounding world. But I still don’t think I could have prepared myself fully. This album is otherworldly in its execution. It’s one of those pieces of music that really makes you think, “How could people come together and just create something like this?” While their movie score had a more varied and progressive array of sounds to fit the moods of the different parts of the film, this album is much more consistent in its main ideas. It’s still definitely progressive though. This record sounds liquified. It moves with fluidity, and carries itself like one of those guys riding the clouds in Mario. It’s also incredibly peaceful. It is at no point in your face, or trying to force you to enjoy it. It lets you sit and really familiarize itself with the sounds you are hearing, and just float along with them. Imagine lying on your back in the ocean, but only far enough out on the shore so that the water comes about halfway up the side of your head. And you just sit there. For eternity. Letting the current delicately push you around. Nine times out of ten, this album sounds amazing. And beautiful at the same time. It is a masterfully produced piece of work, and really pushes the boundaries of ambient pop. Just more proof that even if they suck at everything else, French people know how to make great music. Rating: 8/10
Excellent album.
Starts off with some serious bangers, trails off a little towards the end but it's still an enjoyable listen throughout. Pretty chill eletronica, not much to complain about.
What a delightful album. Really easy to listen to and I enjoyed how laid back it was.
I love this album! Spent many an afternoon sketching, daydreaming, and navel-gazing to it as a teen.
Really enjoyed this one, super chill stuff.
This one I enjoyed despite it not being for me.
It’s like a jazz lounge ran by robots. Really cool sounds but the vocal effects on some of the songs take me out of it.
its soooofucking zoated
Like a calm sunny day, this album just a peaceful energy to its' tracklist.
It’s a 3.5 that I’ll round up to a 4. I think about half of this album just didn’t fully click for me, but maybe it’s because I was still in a sort of “analyst” mode as opposed to just listening and feeling the vibe. We’ve had a lot of vibe albums lately, but this is very much a vibes album. What’s here sounds excellent; there’s not a single bad track on here, and in terms of super relaxing electronica, this is an album you can both study to and fall asleep to on a dime. For my tastes, some of the songs felt a bit too empty at times or a bit too long, and I was still expecting at least one sort of Daft Punk-esque energy-filled song given the genre, but like… that’s an unfair expectation. This is a good listen, it’s well-recommended, and I’m perfectly ok with a 4 here. Good soundscapes, great vibes.
Shocked at how much I loved this.
Lol, I originally gave this one a 2. What an idiot I was in 2024.
Most 90s electronica sounds dated to me but this still sounds fresh. Never heard of this band before but thoroughly enjoyed the laid back vibes.
never listened to Air before and enjoyed the vibe. I think this would be a great album to listen to while driving at night.
This album is right down my ally. Go to style. Love it.
I've heard this album a few times in the past, and can't say it was an immediate favorite, but I've grown to like it quite a bit. It is quite synthy and chill, and feels like taking a walk late at night. 90's electronic often wears on me, but this is the rare kind that somehow makes the coldness of the genre feel warm.
I like this electronic, beat flow. Looped it a few times. Probably a 3 on my rating scale but giving it a 4
I can't believe Air and Daft Punk were contemporaries? If you played me Remember and said it was a Daft Punk song I would believe it. Why was France churning out duos like this in the 90s I have heard part of this album before, but primarily I know the song Sexy Boy from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You, in the scene where the party fliers for Bogey Lowenstein's party are being dropped down the stairwell This album is just super cool. Chill without being sleepy. There's a touch of sameyness to the songs but it all fits together amazingly as an album. The songs all cohere and blend. It just makes you want to float. Faves: Remember, La femme d'argent, Ce matin-la
Fuck yeah. Easy buttery atmospheric jazzy early synthy electronica. They keep their melodies groovy and cohesive and tight, which i's appreciates. I like that this album is a tidy soundscape package - all songs have the a similar color & mood that makes me believe they belong together.
7.5/10 Highlights: Kelly Watch The Stars Sexy Boy Femme d'Argent Voyage du Penelope
Good tracks are front loaded on the album, starts well and tapers off. Chill out tracks
Pretty interesting!
It’s good. It gets a little spacey in some places but when the vocals come in the album does peak. Worth a listen
I rather enjoyed this, after not expecting to. I take all the points people make about it being a bit AI and so on, but it's also got a bit of funk and style about it. And has lots of interesting bits and pieces. It'll do for me.
This was nice to have on in the background for work. I liked the chill vibes. I'm not sure that this needs to be on a list of the greatest albums of all time, but what do I know? 4/5
Almost 5 because I LOVE Ce Matin-la
First album I recognized only from girltalk
Solid vibe -8/10
8/10 - Extremely interesting. Each piece was unique and was super cool to listen to. Ce matin-la was my favorite but each one was special.
There’s was a lot of variety and all of it was solid, pretty interesting overall 8/10
Really good 9.5/10
I really liked this! Definitely something to put on when I can't fully pay attention to what I'm hearing but I think that's ok. Just a nice listen that fills the room with good vibes. What's not to like?
Solid background listening. Not bad for coding when doing routine stuff, but interesting enough to pull focus when it's really needed.
This shit is smoooooooth
This is some of the coolest instrumental work I've heard, it really does feel like a Moon Safari. Incredible atmosphere, the sweeping futuristic sounds mixed with the guitary piano soloing is awesome
This may be the epitome of a "kick back," "take a load off," "chill out" albums ever recorded. I have to admit I was introduced to two of these songs about 12 years ago and loved them. Listening to the entire album makes me now love the album. It's almost perfect to my ears minus a few tracks. And the two best tracks bookend the album IMO. Smooth, sexy, and relaxing...this albums sets the mood. Favorite tracks: La femme d'argent, Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars, Talisman, Ce matin la, New Star in the Sky, Le voyage de Penelope.
Interesting 80s sound. Overall enjoyed it but is a bit dated
cak okej
Really enjoyed listening to this album. I sort of like having music like that to listen to when I am heading to bed…but also when I’ve got busy work….I will definitely listen to this one again.
I’ve never listened to a full air album and this was great!
Sounds like Daft Punk, but compositions are WAY more interesting. Production value is incredibly high, if there’s not a lot of live instrumentation, then it definitely has me fooled. Side one had hits, but I enjoyed side two more, very introspective and deep.
Very nice and vibey! It’s a cohesive story and the talkbox makes a great addition.
Rating: 7.0 (tied) One word: Chill, Parlor
This was gorgeous. Ahead of it's time and a pioneer of the downbeat movement that followed. Music for the weary drive home after a weekend festival full of various festival style chemical enhancements. 9/10
I had not heard of this band before but found their music to be pretty soothing with good melodies.
Ethereal and trippy. I really enjoyed listening to this while I worked, I'd probably love cranking it with the windows down while I drive through a city at night.
Really really interesting music from Air - first time listening and I enjoyed it thoroughly. This album took me on a trip and genuinely made me feel like I was in a movie. Loved the vibe all throughout and will definitely add this to my library.
I've always liked this album a lot; it's a strange mixture of psychedelia and 90s indie sounds with a bit of Trip Hop thrown in. If I had to think of similar artists it would surprisingly include Hawkwind - a few of the tracks seem like almost direct lifts of Hawkwind. For example, "La femme d'argent" is basically "Golden Void" with a different tune. The indie elements are reminiscent of bands like Garbage and there's a bit of Portishead here and there, even a bit of Lemon Jelly now and again. It's not an album I return to often, more of a late night/ early morning chillout vibe that fits a particular situation. The first four tracks are the best and then it settles into a chilled out groove that slowly winds down until the end comes. It feels wrong awarding only 4 stars, but it's a very strong 4.
Very pleasant for background music and peaceful
Up to this, I'd been quite unimpressed by the electronic offerings from 1001 albums. This one finally felt worthy of inclusion on this list. Air does a great job of setting up and layering each track. I've been extremely impressed with the structure they utilize. New Star in the Sky was a particular delight. The chord structure was unexpected and really enjoyable.
Really enjoyed listening to this while working, nice to be introduced to mostly instrumental music that isn't what I'm used to (jazz/classical) and is also relaxing compared to something like house or DnB
The album kicks off well, with an interesting song, "La femme d'argent". Great groove, nice electric piano. Kind of Deodato meets Brian Auger and a dash of Kraftwerk. At its best, there's a smooth, jazz fusion feel. The longest song on the album, at just over 7 minutes. It takes a notable step down for "Sexy Boy", with a decidedly inorganic sound, and useless vocals which mostly repeat the title over and over and over and over. Not a bad groove, though. "All I Need" rebounds. When they use "real' bass it groves so much better, and the vocals this time are carrying actual vocals. It seems to bounce around between the two levels, really good, and OK. "Talisman" is great, "Remember " is meh.... etc. But there's a charm here, and I overall enjoyed this album. Overall, I'd probably go 7/10 or 7.5/10. But this is a 5 point scale, and integers only. I'm rounding up today, because this is really interesting, and several of the songs are solidly good. So that's 4/5
awesome but not perfect
Loved this album. Really cruisy, melodic dance, disco, sometimes even old school like Burt Baccarat.
The very first 3 songs are the most popular ones of this album by Air. The rest of the album goes with much more chilling and relaxing tones... It is an easy listening for Sunday afternoon.
big fan actually pretty cool beats not my usual but i like it
Owned this album and always liked several songs on it. After The Virgin Suicides, liked this band even more. Enjoyed listening to it again today. A relaxing, calming vibe drifts out from it and its damn near impossible not to relax while enjoying this.
Cool French dudes

Great album. Definitely has become my go to for chill and work music.
I liked this! I much preferred the tracks without the singing, though. I saved a couple songs for my 1001 playlist.
Ganz ok, wenn man in Stimmung ist
The rainy intro is pretty cool... relaxing and funky. I really do like the texture in this. Quite atmospheric. Some parts make me think of Daft Punk.
Easy listening, artistic album. Something I could play in the background as mostly instrumental music.
The opening track is brilliant. The rest is pretty good.
light lounge electronic music. some of it feels very familiar. but I cant quite place it. it was a pleasant listen even if its not something I would normally enjoy.
I was mesmerized by this, just drawn into so much of the music here
- Heard this before - Agree this should be on the list, not my usual thing but very enjoyable - Quite unique compared to other albums of this genre and period that I've heard - Fav songs: All I Need, La femme d'argent, You Make It Easy
enjoyable listen.
Pretty cool!
Very easy listen.
Lovely stuff. Dreamy, French pop with loads of detail in the background. Beautiful synths and base lines, actual hooks and lots to focus in on. But zoom out and let the beauty wash over you.
Pastel futuristic space dream.
The songs in this album were relaxing and expectedly faded into the background. A few of them had late 90s/early 00s sounds to them. I was getting reminded of transitions or club scenes from some dramas of that era
Fleeting yet significant for the trajectory of Air, Moon Safari captures exquisitely the essence of the music for films aura that permeates through this. It is no surprise that, afterwards, they actually went on to score soundtracks so maybe this is the calm before the storm. Chansons agréables pour passer le temps! Favorites: La femme d'argent, Sexy Boy, Kelly Watch the Stars, Talisman, Remember, You Make It Easy, Ce matin-là.
Own
The first side of this LP alone warrants a place for Air in this list. Smooth and retro-sounding instrumentals "La Femme d'Argent" and "Talisman" take the best of the flavors once explored by the likes of Burt Bacharach, Serge Gainsbourg and seventies Italian movie soundtracks. "All I Need" (featuring Beth Hirsch on vocals) is admittedly an understated ballad, but its central hook can illuminate the grimmest heart. And "Sexy Boy" and "Kelly Watch The Stars" are timeless bangers drawing from disco, 70s soft-rock and 90s 'French Touch' electro in a particularly catchy and idiosyncratic fashion, with hypnotic-yet-lively basslines, and equally hypnotic vocal lines on vocoder. The second side is also quite good, even if a little hit-or-miss sometimes: "Remember" goes to the same soundscapes explored in side one, but comes off a little short in comparison--both because of its tiny length and predictable contents. The acid-jazz/lounge undertones of ballad "You Make It Easy" (also featuring Beth Hirsch) sound "dated" in a way that's less elegant than in other parts of the LP, in spite of some impressive arragements towards its conclusion. "Ce matin-là" fares far better, as if it was a classic cut once composed by Ennio Morricone for a police procedural during his seventies heyday (what a memorable melody on the trumpet!). And so does "New Star In The Sky", even if's a touch too long and drowsy at times. Excellent piano-and-vocoder bridge, though, and nice subtle orchestral flourishes in its second part. As for "Le voyage de Pénélope", it's an apt closer displaying a fascinating jazzy synth line à la Vangelis, and it sums up all the different moods in the record. It's another short track, but it manages to be both relaxing and enticing, both "funky" and oneiric. Not so easy to pull off, all things considered. *Moon Safari* is a textbook 4/5-star album for this app (translating to a 9/10 grade for more general purposes). It never tries to impress you *a lot*, because it's too busy having fun first. And those records are often the most endearing ones for a lot of listeners. So it's nice that *some of them* find their way in such a list. Number of albums left to review: 316 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 307 (including this one). Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 167 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many other records are more important to me): 222
Kinda funky, very French. Big rainy coffee house vibes. Into it, though maybe a little too floaty for me to listen to frequently.
Spacey
La Femme and All I need are great songs. La voyage de Penelope is also an excellent song. Nice chilled listening
I wasn’t familiar with this and then I listened and realized I knew several of these songs. Enjoyed this album, it made nice background music for work. 4.25 if we could give partial.
Listened to this album many times. It's beautiful!
Oh yeah! This fucking slaps. It’s exciting, original, unique and the production is fantastic. Not every track inspires or is incredibly different, but it’s still very fun. 4/5
Airy, space-agey, chill
I've been really into atmospheric music lately, so this works. It's also very cool with that bass
7/10
Very chill
Techno with some disco vib. Not a go to for me but I appreciate the sound and the title is perfect
Very nice, presumably this is what french boys did with each other before they invented rocket league and soggy biscuit
45 minutes of "oh, I recognise this". Lovely stuff
Chill as fuck. Like if The Beta Band took a Valium. Great inoffensive background music. Would’ve definitely had on playlist as a former pothead.
I thought this album was going to be completely new to me, but I do remember Sexy Boy from back in the day. I'm much more receptive to atmospheric music than I was then, so I ended up enjoying the album quite a bit.
Opzich wel echt lekker! Zou dit zelf weleens opzetten
1 minute in and this is a vibe I can get used to. Big thumbs up. Reminded me of Portishead *a lot*
Enjoyable and easy to work to. Started at same time as daft punk and can hear the similarities. Rating: 3.6
Very chill, perfect party music.
Felt like I was playing a video game where the main character was a frog in space
I actually loved this album. Great grooves.
Really easy listen. Lo-fi. Even little hints of Nick Drake in there. Excellent background vibe music.
I’m certain I’ve listened to this before but don’t remember it. Looking forward to revisiting. Starts by sounding like the setting music to a cool crime movie. I’m realizing this is like trip-hop music. Really enjoyed it! I don’t hold it as high as Mezzanine or the first Massive Attack album but it’s very good.
Interesting. Sometimes ethereal. Sometimes light jazz.
very calming easy listen loved it- a bit repetative but in a good way
I've really liked the Air albums that I've got on this list. I like Virgin Suicides better than this album, but this one works great as well. Their music is very atmospheric, and they play around a lot with the texture of the music to keep it from getting dull. 4/5
While parts became a bit repetitive for my taste on some tracks, it was well interesting enough to hold my attention. My only other prior experience was with the Virgin Suicides soundtrack, which was equally enjoyable. Would definitely be adding this to the queue to throw on while programming. Standout tracks: La femme d'argent, All I Need, Le voyage de Penelope
Engaging from the first to last note. The sound is one minute taking you through space, the next it’s forcing you back down to Earth. There’s not much I would chance on this.
Good, solid album. Sexy Boy specifically really caught my attention.
First half was magical and transporting and gave me a real positive uplift. My interest did wane after Talisman- second side syndrome - but those first five songs are belters.
Absolutely love this album. I've loved for a long time...since the days of Napster when I first downloaded some of these songs. While the same chill vibe throughout, each of the songs are pleasantly different that it's such a lovely journey to traverse with Air.
A pleasantly surprisingly album. Described as space pop or dream pop, this French electronica duo came up with a novel sound. Amazingly beautiful.
Quite good music. Know it since the last fm time.
Surprisingly good. Reminds me of Camel.
I actually enjoyed most of this, nice.
Very nice 3.8
I can see how it might sound a bit old and pretentious by now, but back in the day, after the peak of britpop and a wave of nu-metal it sounded so original and fresh.
super smooth. dybt chokeret over at det er "Sexy Boy" de synger i den sang, har jeg Aldrig fattet
C’est tres bien
Not my usual jam but I liked it.
French af. Took a couple of listens to warm up to, but after it clicked, it really clicked. You Make It Easy and Remember are highlights.
This has got to be up there in terms of a smooth start to an album. The first few minutes of the opening track are entrancing. The second song makes for a good follow up as well. I find that somewhere in the middle I lose my sense of place and my mind has surely wandered. But maybe that's okay on a Moon Safari — it doesn't detract from my impression of the record too much given that it always pulls me back in again on its own. It's both timeless and of its time.
Smoooooooth
This album is amazing. If Air just would have released La femme d'argent alone and did nothing else - they would still be remembered. Instead, we were blessed with the rest of this album. Highlights include La femme, All I Need, Kelly Watch the Stars, Ce matin-la and Le voyage de Penelope.
Good album, very atmospheric, the singles are massive and the production is so good
Very groovy. Super easy listening, and vibey. Good to have one while working. Not sure when I'll revisit, but I'm happy I'm aware of it. I recognized a lot of the songs. Glad I can put a name to it.
Having never heard of the artist, I knew loads of the songs (and they were good ones)
An album, and artist, where you know far more of the tracks than you realise! Must have been all those 'chill out mood' compilations from the 2000s! ;-)
This has a really good Jazz vibe to it that I want expecting. When I saw French electronic music, I was anticipating more of a rave or dance vibe. It's been a pleasant morning listen.

this album was jazz
Oh snap it's that song from that one ad. Chunky funky synth vibes, pretty fun.
4.5
Incredible album - Been a favourite for years. Combining electronica/trip-hop. Many memorable and interesting songs. Would’ve rated 5/5, but in retrospect there are some slightly ‘duller moments’ in the middle of the album. Albums from massive attack/portishead just beat out. 4.2/5.
Album français que je n'ai pas écouté depuis très longtemps mais que j'adore ! Onique, planant, doux, poétique... À écouter en toutes circonstances. Fait penser aux Daft Punk par moments.
Airy
3.5/5
very much and electro pop album. my favorite track was Ce matin-là - From “L’uomo in più”. the tracks that included a little bit of trumpet were what caught my eye and i really enjoyed to listen to something out of my comfort zone
Nice!
Great record super chill and super skill. Very nostalgic for me also - listened a lot around 2001/2002
Very chill techno vibes, retro lofi album, sexy boy was a favourite
Soundtrack to a movie about gay space cowboys.
★: "sexy boy", "kelly watch the stars", "remember"
Good downtempo
Hard to rate. Was it awesome, no. Was it bad, no. Were there things I liked. Almost all of it because it was so inoffensive. Background music for in the morning. 3,5 stars.
Some cool songs on here, good vibes
Really really awesome band from Fwuanz. Love the vibes which comes with the electronic style. Not my usual type I listen to. Also listened to Playground Love. It‘s not in that album. Personal Top3 in no order: All I need Remember Ley voyage de Pénélope
Great start with "La femme d'argent" and "Sexy Boy". I didn't really enjoy "All I Need" and "You Make It Easy". However, "Talisman" was another highlight for me. All in all, I really enjoyed listening to to the album.
I like the idea of a moon safari more than the music. But I also just really like the idea of a moon safari.
Intro douce et etherique deuxième titre rythmé puis les voix entrent en jeu dans le 3eme. Fin de journée estivale aux bayles
Super chill electronica with occasional lyrics
Nice chill listen while your work music.
Chill, relaxing, background music
Strong start, weak 2nd half of album
Pretty nice listen. Atmospheric and ambient. Definitely worth hearing again.
Great mood. Not my everyday style but very interesting.
Chill and vibe-y. Cool to revisit this with fresh ears. *Heard before.
Another album I already know! I’ve always thought of this album as being sort of an onomatopoeia: it sounds exactly like what a band named Air would write. The breathy vocals, the buoyant synths, the gentle arrangements. “Kelly Watch The Stars” was my introduction to Air, and remains my favorite song of theirs. “Sexy Boy” is also a bang up track. Overall, a great album, but Air will only ever be my second favorite French electronic music duo from the 90s.
French sounding late 90s techno. Enjoyed "Sexy Boy" and ce matin la
I liked!
You'll feel cooler just by listening to this album. 4/5
man i put this one off for too long. beautiful mix of downtempo, stereolabby indietronica, and old space age pop and easy listening. good stuff.
This is really nice Backgroundbeats, chill electronic. Good stuff.
Really liked this, although some tracks definitely run for too long. It seems better to put on in the background than making a concerted effort to listen to it, but there are no doubts I will play this record again in the future. A low to mid 4.
7/10 - Zero expectations. Some tracks feel like they could have been in late 90s French cinema.
Leuk
Great Vibes Album, Late Night Mood, 4/5
Dig this.
A little slow in parts, latter half of the album sounds much the same. First half is great. Good atmosphere, can see myself listening to it while focusing on something.
Excellent and unexpected.
