Pretty cool. Never heard it before.
This album feels like jazz transported to another planet. It’s atmospheric and layered, with steady rhythms that build a whole world around you. The first track immediately hooked me with riffs that sounded improvised but were executed so cleanly they felt effortless. The bass throughout is addictive, carrying the songs while the synths and guitars stack in rich, beautiful detail. I kept hearing new layers emerge as it went on, and that gave it a sense of depth and surprise that never got old. What stands out most is how immersive it feels. It’s cinematic, the kind of album you can throw on in the background and let it wash over you, but it also rewards focus if you want to sit with it. It’s smooth, polished, and full of personality. For an album that leans into electronica, it feels incredibly alive and human, with instruments and textures that sound organic even in their electronic form. From start to finish, it was a great listen.

Fantastic
Charming Jet Set Lounge music, and new to me. Nice!
4/7
I'm usually not a fan of either ambient or electronic music, but something about this album is different. Moon Safari has a unique and calm vibe; the instruments are layered beautifully, allowing the songs to be neither too busy nor too understated. On repeated listens, you can catch details you did not notice the first time around. Fav tracks: "La Femme d'argent" sets the tone for the album very well, "All I Need", "You Make It Easy", "Ce matin là". 4/5
Listening to this album is like a tour through music samples and influences that came before and after this album. It's a nice album to listen to in the background while you are focusing on something else. I mean that as a compliment.
Very enjoyable and delightful listen. Felt like listening to a dream. Couple different genres mixed in throughout the albums that act as a precursor to a lot of modern music. The influence it has is very apparent. I think this is an album I’ll come back to.
Nice atmospheric sounds, retro upon release, retro even now. A little bit of the Daft Punk, Stereolab sound.
Now this is the kind of electronic music I enjoy. A good mix of relaxing and engaging, with dreamy vibes throughout.

While it never quite reaches the heights of the first four tracks, all in this is an excellent piece of 90s electronic
Great example of the genre
Pretty high quality synth pop. Like the band name the music is airy and spacey and a lot of music like this get's used for soundtracks and backing music. This alubm works well standing alone and it's pretty impressive. It's just super chill.
Kinda wild we've had 2 Air albums on here. I like them but I wouldn't call them essential listening. This album represents that euro lounge aesthetic that a lot of (better) bands would push in to electronica/big beat/proto-modern-edm in the next 10 or 15 years. It's bit of an easy listening version of Daft Punk or a Telepopmusik with an edge. It's perfectly good chillout music, when that was a genre. Other than "La Femme D'argent" and "Talisman" I don't think any of the tracks are really big standouts, but as a whole it's a good listen. I do really like the aforementioned tracks as singles, though.
I like Air, but I personally don't like this album as much as the Virgin Suicides soundtrack or their second and third albums. It feels like a promise of what is to come with some really great songs and a lot that is definitely good but not something that blew me away until they progressed with their next few albums.
This was so much better than I was expecting. Knew the singles but air never really landed with me, the album didn't sound like I thought it would though. I expected it to be quite monotonous electronic music but it's much more melodic with electronic bits, really sounds like a precursor to daft punk. Those Frenchies really know robot sounds ey. Will listen again, didn't blow me away to a 5 level but still really good.
Haven't heard Air for ages! Had a mate as a teenager that used to play "Kelly watch the stars" pretty regularly. Reminds me of chilling with mates after a night out. Sounds like a night time album. Not a massive electronica fan as a rule, but this works. The first 4 tracks are all great. I reckon 4
Monday morning 7:00. On my way to work. This album is the soundtrack of my scenery. No wonder they played it on Ibiza on sunrise. For downtempo I always go back to this album or Kruder & Dorfmeisters session. Smart, chillout music. No track is a filler. Nothing bothers. Favourite track: All I need. My only critique is its lack of innovation - Portishead and Massive Attack put much more originality into their songs - which is hard to compete with, but still - only 4 stars.
el vocoder me cansa un poco. compraría el vinilo.
- A very sci-fi feel to the whole album and it has the vibe of reading a sci-fi novel - Psychedelic , hypnotic - I'm loving the punk vibe to the album and how some of the songs are instrumental - like stargazing with aliens - I really love the songs with Beth Hirsch - You make it easy, should definitely listen again - I was not expecting the french but it makes the album so good It was a good album, I have no words. It may not be exactly what I like but that definitely didn't stop me from loving this album and I would listen again. Everything about it was amazing and I enjoyed the way it felt like hypnotic stargazing with aliens. Such a good album.
Rather enjoyed this. Slightly uneven, but the good tracks more than make up for it! Chill and groovy!
I thought I’d quickly get bored of this once the singles were out of the way, but it was great all the way through. Created a lovely mood which I hope stays with me throughout my day! ‘All I Need’ is the absolute standout track. Just beautiful.
empirical evidence that we’d live longer with mid afternoon croissant breaks
An uber driver showed me this album 3 years ago. All the basslines are secretly Geezer Butler-esque.
This album was thoroughly enjoyable. I guess the French just make the best electronic music. I feel so bad for everyone who says they need lyrics to enjoy music though because then they completely miss out on this beauty.
Good ambient background tunes, listened while I worked on spreadsheets. Love the songs with the female vocalist her voice was perfect over the track
Brilliant - love this album, and listened to it loads over the years, from when it first was released to lately. Would listen to this, and also Moby's Play, for a chilled-spaced-out-lounging-philosophical vibe.
I would call it chill-wave, but I'm sure it has other names, it is perfect background music. Interesting to listen to if you're actively listening, but not distracting if you're trying to do something else. If you're in the mood for this style of music, this is a fantastic album.
This is a debut album from these two French guys - several electronica instrumentals along with some vocals. Once again I opine that this is pretty good stuff for a debut. A lot of the tracks here would make a good movie soundtrack. Regarding a rating for the album, I waffled between three and four stars but settled on four stars, partly because it’s a debut.
Ha, this album takes me back to the early 2000s. I actually didn't know they were French, so it's good the album cover filled me in. The album starts extremely mellow, so I see where the "lounge" & "chill-out" genres come in. Luckily there are some bleeps and bloops and rocket launching vwooshes to grab my interest ("space pop"). Also, the album is called Moon Safari. I am having an aha moment that space pop is 50% in the naming of things. Next you'll be telling me La Femme d'argent is a pseudonym for the moon! (I found no evidence of this, but I did check just to make sure.) Their big hit 'Sexy Boy' always reminded me of the Sneaker Pimps (surely "trip-hop"), but a bit less good. However I also never clocked that it had French in it, so I may not have been the most discerning 13 year old. I like it more now that I know about all these genres! The underlying beat is not original, but is one I always like. Also, I think French has probably overtaken Portuguese in the non-English-language album count, non? Someone should make a 'Kelly Watch the Stars'/'Andy You're a Star' mashup. Set phasers to Daft Punk. Etc. Highlight: 'Ce matin-là' Lowlight: 'All I Need' (just makes me wish I were listening to Radiohead's instead)
Nice easy listening
Chill, lo-fi, smooth silken synths. Laying in bed, lights off, following the different paths the music takes. Relaxing, therapeutic, tension eases. I'd never listened to Air before but found that I knew a couple of songs already somehow. Probably adverts. Either way the album is beautiful and I will definitely listen again. Very strong start. Tracks with vocals are great and Beth Hirsch does a spot on job of matching the energy of the songs. I love Ce matin-là, it has Nick Drakey vibes with a touch of the Blur Universal about it. 8/10
Nice album, ruined by how many tracks have been used for commercials and tv
When I first listened to this, I was kind of in a bad mood, and wasn't really paying too much attention to what I was listening to. I was going to leave my review, and then I was like, "you know what, let me fire this up one more time, get another sense of how it" and I really dug it the second time, it's a very slow, subtle burn that I think gets better the more you really pay attention to it. It's subtle, but it's there.
I liked this a lot
Excellent and chill.
Bastante mejor que los dos anteriores, melodioso y ambiental. Podría escucharlo de vuelta tranquilamente. 7/10

Oerhört trevligt att stifta bekantskap med
Des bons bouttes pis des moyens. 3.5 étoiles
Chilling and hazy.
Hidden gem
This is a significant album for me as it’s the last album I had listened to on my own prior to starting this list … it’s inclusion the list was a determining factor on me starting this off I’m glad to say I still enjoy this immensely , maybe more. It’s a true testament to how my ear has grown over the last 200 plus days in this project and air remains a standout
This sounds very much like RJD2. This could have also been the Mad Men theme music. The first song was the best. I'm not disliking this as something that's on over the speaker system at a local bookstore...I'm not sure this is an album I'd put on to just listen to regularly. Ok, I'll give them credit, this would definitely be appropriate music for the bedroom...no lyrics as distraction and a sexy vibe. I'm liking it more and more for what it is. This could be the score to a Bond movie, and I mean that as a compliment. Reminds me of The xx. I could do without all the robot voice singing. I bet these guys are best friends with Daft Punk. A lot of Beth Hirsh guest spots. I'm guessing she's the girlfriend of one of the members of the "band". Honestly though, the songs she's on aren't bad. New Star in the Sky is terrible. Le voyage de Penelope is like a bad Kool and the Gang cover, a terrible homage to Summer Madness.
4/5
Nice chill
Lush, moody, atmospheric, gentle. I'm not very familiar with downtempo as an electronic music sub genre but this seems like a good place to start, I could really distinguish its sound from the various trip hop/IDM/plunderphonics styles of the 90s whilst hearing some pleasant interactions with them. Had a good time.
Instrumental, gentle rock/funk/pop/electro. Nice basslines. First track reminds me of Changes by KGLW. I recognise Sexy Boy, but not sure where from Getting some Daft Punk energy from vocoders (also French!), but also reminiscent of Mylo. Best track - Femme de l'argent, Kelly Watch the Stars, You Make it Easy, Ce Matin-la 4 stars
Interesting sort of ethereal, different feel. Not even quite sure what genre this is
Solid late 90’s spacey album.
I may have just been in the right music for this style, but it was really good focus music for getting work done. Will listen to this one again. 8/10
This is another one of those albums that I lose track of as it's playing, but in a good way. I don't know which songs I liked the most, but I enjoyed them all. None of it is mindblowing, but its all pleasant to have on in the background, and interesting enough that it occasionally breaks through and makes me pay attention. The songs were ambient but nuanced. I've learned the word "downtempo" from the wikipedia page of the album. I enjoy downtempo electronic music. 8/10
Moon Safari is a dreamy, feel-good ride. With its warm tones and laid-back grooves, the album has a fun, relaxed vibe that carries from start to finish.
It is probably not fair to Air that the most iconic thing about this album is the way Girl Talk used the sample of "Sexy Boy" on Feed the Animals, and yet...
This album is just 'cool'. Songs mostly have such simple elements that are built out so nicely - that repeating bassline on la femme d'argent is sublime. Sexy Boy has always annoyed me, but most of the sound design on the synths is so great.
Similar vibes to Moby's Play. I like electronic that I can chill to.
Excellent. When 4 stars feels a little harsh!
Good stuff!
this album has some absolute bangers that give me exactly what i wanted. crunchy synths and funky bass lines, leaning into video game menu music without it being video game menu music. it's futuristic in a 60s space age meet frutiger aero way, which is right up my alley. i also really enjoy the vocals. I knew sexy boy from tiktok (i know i know) and must say it's by far the worst song on the album. in general the album falls victim to some of the songs being a tad too long. most of them do need the length to build and develop the song well, but some just drone on without giving me anything. but the ones that eat, EAT.
Fantastic album! Certainly a modern classic.
This was unavoidable around the end of the century - lovely chill album with great production and some fantastic bass lines
Actually really liked it. At first it felt like I was opening up a lounge and needed ambient music but the more I listened to it, the more I found myself enjoying the details and individuality of the tracks.
Not something I have ever heard before, and I'm not sure I'd seek it out in the future, but it's fun and cool.
Always happy to find some more trip hoppy stuff. Although I'm glad this incorporated a bit more variety beyond the first track, which I did like but it could've gotten a bit boring if that was the only mode Beth Hirsch's features are nice. The tracks featuring here are probably my favourites Highlights: You Make It Easy, All I Need, Ce matin-là
Good
Super fun little album, love the mixture of sounds and vibes.
I definitely recognized some of these songs from movie soundtracks!
A chill album for a hot day. Sounds throughout the album reminded me of a Mario game, a Bond theme and early The Go! Team. Think I preferred the songs without any vocals.
https://open.spotify.com/album/2HypdH9T0bK9YEq7ama4Iq?si=9yYgXWHIQsmrAM7rhc2fmQ Even more French fun!!! This band is a grower for me, took me a bit but I am glad I came around. This album is solid and good for pool summer fun or late night chills.
when this came out napster was new and I think it took me like 2 wks to download the whole album LOL If you like this genre, this is a great record!
Light. Airy...ethereal. I enjoyed the change of pace and La Feeme d'argent, that one helps my mind float into new realms. Perfect for a backdrop to my day.
I really enjoyed this one. Great for creating an atmosphere. Very easy to listen to. Makes me want to play Katamari Damacy.
Yet another album I like more now than when it came out. It’s 60s stylings won’t be for everyone but they consistently know how to knock out a memorable tune
So good. Iconic
What a fun safari! Didn’t know the moon had such lovely flora and fauna. Now it’s time to relax at the Astro Lounge
Liked this, very atmospheric and chilled electronica.
Vibe
I enjoyed this album listen! It is unlike most of the albums I’ve listened to on here. I enjoyed the chill electronic vibes of this debut album by Air. I would definitely check this album out again and recommend it to others!
That was actually awesome
A classic of tripped out, chilled synth pop! A classic for a reason, it’s beautiful from start to finish.
Different, nice, alternative, chill
Casi casi perfecto
Je préfère l'album de virgin suicides mais c'est pas mal
leuke tunes
An unexpected delight.
sags a bit in the middle but just the most chill
super vibey downtempo album that marked the birth of that genre, this Air album is incredibly thoughtful and soothing, yet also creative and complex. Very good.
This was a solid listen. Nothing really memorable outside of sexy boy. Which I will give this an additional point for the nostalgia of that song alone.
I might get disowned by both of you for this, but I’m just not loving it enough for a 5.
Those were the days.
chill
Sometimes I forget that this album is more than just Sexy Boy.
Space-age lounge music
this is cool and different.
Great album.
I actually really loved this. Chill vibes, easy listening.
I like this a lot better than I did “Virgin Suicides.” At least, according to my review. I don’t really remember it. I didn’t really dig “You Make it Easy,” but the rest was great.
Good chill music to get stuff done, will definitely be on rotation at work. Doesn't hurt that I picture 10 Things I Hate About You during the second track.
I feel relaxed now. Thank you, Air.
Pleasantly chilled.
I liked it very much - Sexy!!!
Pleasant textures; more of a vibe than a concrete statement. I like this more than I used to.
This was a revelation for me. I have already started looking into more AIR albums. Perfect grooves to relax to. Not soporific, but also not Manic. Something to chill to but still get stuff done. This porridge is just right for me. It's finds like this that make this site a daily must visit.
4-
hall of fame nap album dad says it falls apart in the second half but i wouldnt know on account the aforementioned napping
Love this album, a 4.5 star album if I've ever heard one but I have to give it a 4 due to 'You Make it Easy' being on the album. The only skippable track on it.
Like this.
can't lie, i kinda tuned in and out while this was playing. but it felt cool the whole time. lots of vibes. i'll come back to this with a little more intent.
Goog good
Better than Coldplay
Delightfully French space age-y chill music
This has to be one of the most perfectly named bands. Their music always feels like it’s just floated in from the ether.
this was really good actually, first of whatever this genre is i’ve heard
Cool vibes album. I'd listen to it as a "lofi" beats style album
stylish organic grooves, some lovely keyboard sounds - fresh and spacious
Easy listening with some nice funky pop tunes. Very Daft Punkesque, not surprising as they're both french 90s acts I suppose
This was actually very good album, very much enjoyed, Ce Matin-la
4 stars
This instantly sets a very specific vibe, which I love. I do prefer the instrumental bits, as I'm not a huge fan of the vocal style, but overall I love the chill and nostalgic feeling this has. Reminds me of video game music as well.
Never listened to the full album before, but it turned out I knew more of it than I expected (i.e. way more than Sexy Boy). I ended up knowing 5 of the tracks and liking all of them. 4/5 would definitely put on when its a warm summer day and I'm sat in the garden.
Transcendentalne przeżycie w EN-57 4/5
Really liked it
Old favourite, 90s electronica
This will have been my first time listening to Air, the French electronic duo of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel. The two originally studied architecture and mathematics before starting to play music and forming a group together. They got their foot in the door by making remixes for other acts before dropping their first EP, then a few years later, this debut album. My first observation with Moon Safari was how readily apparent their influences were in Kraftwerk and Serge Gainsbourg. The chilled-out electronic compositions with the supple bass, piano accompaniment, and light synthesizer flourishes take on this ethereal, almost mystique feel. For a few tracks like the talk box on "Sexy Boy" and "Kelly Watch the Stars", as well as the contributions of Beth Hirsch on "All I Need" and "You Make It Easy", female vocals are used to add a level of intimacy with the simplified lyricism that invokes this sense of longing for that romantic connection. My favorite moments on this album were probably the pulsating groove of the Moog on "Kelly Watch the Stars" paired with the theremin motif, followed by the crescendo from the spaced-out piano line and low-end bass into the string-accompanied soul groove on "Talisman". I'll admit there is this nagging sense in me that this album peaked in the first half. That's not to say the second half is bad. Rather, it sounded like the best and most realized compositions happened to be placed near the front, leaving the back for more atmospheric pieces that continue the vibe, albeit to a slightly lesser degree. Still, I was genuinely impressed with my excursion on this Moon Safari. Air put out a strong debut that helped pave the way for the downtempo genre. It's worth checking out.
4.5 probably
A proper chill out album. It lacked an absolute banger of a song to get all 5 stars bit still a very good album.
Yes j'adore
Groovy vibey album
Hann inte lyssna mycket, men detta album är inte direkt okänt för mig. Har ju hört det tusentals gånger, det är ju morsans favorit. Jag älskar det inte, men det är ganska bra.
A great album. I have listened to it many times. The vibe is great, and Air really manages you to lift up in the air.
Very pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. Good
Surprised to see that I already had 2 of the songs saved prior to clicking on this album It was a low 4, I guess
Sehr entspannter Sound, mir hat es gefallen.
Geiles easy listening, 4,5 Sterne
this album sounds like a classic to me, maybe because I'm so familiar with it, and maybe because at this point it IS a classic. I remember a moment in the early 2000s maybe when anyone hip had this album on their radar.
Nice vibing with a glass of bourbon in a dark room kind of album. Unlike a lot of albums on this list, at 41 minutes long it didn't overstay its welcome.
No idea about this band at all, but wow this opening track!! The bass on this opener is fantastic! This album is mellow but not boring or depressing. Lots of interesting things happening musically. This is a great album
Moon Safari hani letsti entdeck respektiv 2 tracks gfunde. Good times 4 mönd
Yeah I had the privilege to be alive in the time when all this slow, whispery chill-out electronica was popular and people loaded up on Air and Royksopp CDs for their ubercool house parties. It was perfectly nice. It's not got the cutting edge of a Portishead or Massive Attack but it's stood the test of time and I've enjoyed a bit of nostalgie, aujourd'hui. Kelly Watch The Stars is still an all-time favourite, especially the fantastic Moog Cookbook remix. Seek it out and thank me later.
Passive listening while working. Stone organs and keyboard vibes
Such a beautiful and interesting album
eu gostei! é daft punk mais elegante e chique. bom pra trabalhar calminho organizando arquivo!!
Cool and mellow electronic album. The instrumental songs are better than the songs with vocals. I didn’t like the singer.
Chill album where none of the tracks grab me but, it’s a great vibe to have in the background.
Daytime electronic music, nice for getting going in the morning. I especially liked La Femme d'argent, Sexy Boy (really great song) and Talisman.
Enjoyed this.
Does tail off, but first half of the album is magical!
A good album that's absolutely front loaded with memorable songs, starting with "La Femme D'argent", "Sexy Boy", "All I Need", and "Kelly Watch The Stars" is definitely a way to hook any unsuspecting listener. Then it just settles in for a breezy yet cozy back half.
Moods encased in instrumental genius
Me veo al espejo, creo que una afeitada me ayudaría, voy a pegarme y sonrió, no subí de peso, creo que me recostare y leeré un poco, pero antes, pondré está música. Todo está perfecto y en orden. Afuera está la guerra.
This is one of those albums I listened to and was like yes!! I found something that I never heard of and will probably listen to again. It’s not great by any means, but solid keys, symphonic harmonies with electric tones…. Similar to music I’ve heard before but with a twist. 3.5 is how I feel, 4 is generous and I’m feeling generous. Ce matin-lá is a lovely tune
Quite chill and i agree with what many say about it being 'travel music'. Probably the catalyst for my instrumental obsession as of recent
Solid.
Maybe a 5, either that or the sunrise was beautiful
Hmmm, tricky. Meagre 3 or generous 4? 3.5 really, very much depends if I feel like listening to it…
Never a fan of but a lot of good memory's with this one
Great album.
Pretty groovy start followed by a song I forgot I knew and the same with the third , massive attack and Elo vibes very chill lovely features with Beth hirsch
very good album, love it
It's just so silky
8.5/10
Chilled out stuff man
Highlights: Remember Ce Matin-la
A beautiful and calming album that mixes together genres of electronica and pop.
Chill as fuuuuuck
Easy 4.5 if I could. Loved it
good morning
Very nice album. Heard a lot of these songs without knowing the name of the band. Stand out song - Remember
4.30
Know it well. Great chill album
Highlights: la femme d'argent, Talisman, Ce matin-la. In a nutshell: un voyage spatial fantastique A fantastic space voyage. Sweeping, dreamy, sexy. It is front loaded, but stick with it. You need to hear the full album at least once before you die, because Moon Safari gives you an idea on how electronica evolved in the late 90s (same can be said with fellow French duo Daft Punk). Overall: 8/10
they know what they are doing!! another really enjoyable album from Air, a whole vibe
This band can jam. 4/5
I was hoping this would be as good as the one Air song I know (which isn't on this album) and it really was! Such a nice chilled vibe to it, love it when tackling this list pays off!
Super excellent vibe with this on a road trip. Listened to it a couple times and really enjoyed. Air is great.
Like it - breezy & mellow, elegant
The first track of an album is very important. It sets the mood for the rest of the album and needs to hook the listener in. A bad first song can have a negative impact on the remainder of the album and it can be hard for it to recover. This album seemed to be nearly an example of that. La Femme d’argent is a weak opening track. It’s a seven minute slog that would be too boring for the Weather Channel. As it went on, I feared that the rest of the album was going to be the same thing. Fortunately, that was far from the case. Past the first song, the rest of the album is a great mix of quirky and calm. I especially liked the Beth Hirsch collabs the best. I think I’m starting to like this downtempo form of electronic music. I had Play by Moby generated earlier in the week and I had pretty much the same feelings for this album. Just some smooth electronics focusing more on establishing a vibe than keeping up a beat. Honestly, if it weren’t for the first song, this would be near perfect. Thankfully, this album proved itself more as it went along. Favorite track: All I Need Other hits: Sexy Boy, Remember, Kelly Watch the Stars, You Make It Easy, Ce Matin Là, New Star in the Sky
ticklish i like it
really liked the instrumental songs but the ones with lyrics were just ok
Effortlessly chill and groovy.
This was a great first selection - always loved this album
Easy to enjoy. Fun. I'll definitely listen to his again.
Classic, loved having the prompt to revisit this album.
I was skeptical going in, but ended up really enjoying this album. Solid background music, that I will revisit and listen to some more. I'd say 3.5 as a result, will round up!
This is pretty sweet. Very mellow
Great background music. Scenery comes to mind. Very cinematic.
3.5
Air - Moon Safari French music is really underrated tbh. This sounds really innovative and fresh for something that was made 3 decades ago, and to this day, it still has that energy all throughout on these 10 songs, most of them are chill but they feel more than just that, since this clearly feels as if it was ahead of it's time. Overall, this is really good! 1.- La femme d'argent = 10/10 2.- Sexy Boy = 9/10 3.- All I Need = 8/10 4.- Kelly Watch the Stars = 7/10 5.- Talisman = 9/10 6.- Remember = 8/10 7.- You Make It Easy = 7/10 8.- Ce matin-là = 8/10 9.- New Star in the Sky = 8/10 10.- Le voyage de Pénélope = 9/10 FINAL SCORE: 8.3/10
A classic album that definitely sets a mood. A handful of less memorable tracks and the annoying "Sexy Boy" hold it back from its full potential, but the great tracks (especially Ce matin-là) really stand the test of time. 3.5/5 -> 4/5
es moy bueno y hay una version artconcert aun mejor
Like it.
Really chill. Amazing vibes. I'm always into analogue electronic sounds and this one delivers.
Really enjoyed it - a bit of 90s electronic pop. A couple of classics, but good to work to.
Very interesting combination of electronica and ambient with more traditional genres like blues and psychedelia. Some songs remind me of Daft Punk after they went mainstream, I wonder how much they were influenced by this band.
these guys are so fucking cool
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 7/10 I remember last festival season these guys played the full album live at Lowlands. Although I was at the same festival, I missed their show because I really didnt want to miss the Viagra Boys. Due to this, today is actually the first time I have heard this album. I gotta say, I like it. However sometimes it becomes a bit too chill and sounds a bit like elevator/background music.
Atmospheric and mystifying - super cool listen
An old classic!
I've never really listened to Air, despite obviously knowing their hits. Enjoyed it. You can hear their influence a lot in artists like Daft Punk and Bonobo
Sehr spaßiges Album Schlechter als erwartet, trotzdem einen herdenspaß
It was an absolute pleasure spending the afternoon revisiting this chill downtempo classic.
Very good album
Really enjoyed listening to this again, definitely a few average tracks but some real standouts like la femme d’argent, sexy boy and ce martin la Will definitely put on again
I really enjoyed it. The first half felt a little stronger than the second, but overall, it’s great. I was initially worried it might feel dated, but it has aged really well.
Surprisingly solid and tuneful entry in the electronica category. I will give Air more listens. This was a band I’d heard of but not explored.
Electronica is always my least favorite type of music to listen to for this project, and I’ve ranted about how many of them are on here and me being forced, yes, FORCED to listen. It mostly hasn’t been fun. I think I’m finding myself enjoying some, though. The less repetitive, less EDM ones are good. The first song on this gave me a lot of hope, because it had a nice grove and I enjoyed it. The second song was also very nice. From there, this was pretty cool! It had fun sounds and grooves, and I enjoyed it a lot.
Ethereal, unique album
a classic but one I don't need to listen to again any time soon
I LOVED THIS!! it made me very happy. the sound was very calming, yet comely at the same time. wonderful piece of music.
Love the slowed down electric eclectic mood here.
Again, like their other album I liked this a lot. It sounds really good, really smooth which is not always a guarantee with electronic stuff on this list. I liked the occasional vocals. It sounds like their name, nice and floaty and breezy but not boring. Really found this a very pleasant listen.
This one is pretty chill.
I think it's extremely hard to make relaxing music not boring, but Moon Safari nails it. The first track set expectation extremely high (god, that bass), and although the rest of the songs didn't quite reach the same height, this album didn't disappoint. The songs here are chill yet atmospheric and engaging. The instrumentals are well-produced and are complemented greatly by vibey vocals. This album is not something I would've chosen to listened on my own, since calm electronic music without crescendos is not exactly for me, but I'm glad that I did. I mean, Daft Punk if they were good, amirite?
Minus one star because Talkie Walkie is the superior Air album
Super chill; really liked this one.
This is a pretty listen. Im not technicaly versed with electronic enough to tell distinctive signatures on what makes Air different from all the others, but its flighty, lush, optimistic to listen to. It feels like the soundtrack music to a world full of green life.
This was on my recommendation list for a while but never got around to it til now. Great background music. Not as trippy as Massive Attack or as thumping as Daft Punk but this was a solid listen and I'll revisit again.
Gotta appreciate these guys
This album was very enjoyable. I would probably listen again. Good music for studying, the French makes it easy to ignore.
I like this, it reminds me of Discovery by Daft Punk - which, by the way, is not on this list. I find that disgraceful. Some of these bass lines are amazing. It's a great chilled album, vocals are decent too I think the first track is superb, but it drops of a bit after that. Great listen tho
Never heard of them - I enjoyed the ambient stuff. Good for working to.
This has aged well, it's a joy to revisit.
There are some great chillout tunes on here and some OK background tunes. It's not amazing, but it is good.
Ah, the sound of the summer afternoon, outdoors, with a refreshing drink in hand.
Very cool and danceable
A pleasant listen with mostly very simple but quality songs. A few do not make me feel like I need to come back to them, but are still rather nice while they are on. 7/10
Never was a fan of this type of electronica.
Nice vibe throughout. Has a lot of cool moments but is mainly great background music. I'd say 3.5 but I'll give it the 4 since I would definitely go back to it. Favorite tracks: Sexy Boy, All I Need, Talisman, and New Star in the Sky.
There’s something to be said about an album that—within just a few notes—instantly transports you back to the time and place where you first heard it. I think that means it’s powerful and unique. I think that’s a testament to connecting with the head and the head. I think that’s about making music that has meaning and staying power. I think I always thought of this album as lightweight. Upon listening again, I think it has gravitational power—a true landmark in late 90s music. It creates its own unforgettable world. A great album and a minor classic.
Excellent album
Relaxing and effortlessly cool. Adds a level of naturalness to the electronic compositions. Not the most thrilling album but sets a mood for sure. Could see myself returning to it
I didn't think I knew anything from these guys but recognized the first track right away, so that was a bit of a surprise. Also a surprise was how much I liked this record. I thought it had some real character and was absolutely unique in places... a combination of interesting lyrics, compelling music, and sophisticated style. I nearly gave it five stars though I tend to reserve that rating for things that are immediately compelling and/or timeless.
Almost a 5. I adored the virgin suicides, this lost me a bit by the end. But what a band!
Like a lot of music I liked in the early 00s, when I listen now, I want all the songs to be 2/3 as long. That's really my only complaint with this. 3.5
Get lost in the sounds. Not in a bad way, but with curiosity.
Väldigt bra. Nyskapande!
Loved this. Will retrieve this again for additional listens. Heard some shades of Daft Punk.
Wikipedia describes the genre as "Bachelor Pad Music" which is appropriate. Had deja vu at first as I could have sworn we had this before and recall the album art. Songs from this must have come up in album radio after similar downtempo / electronica albums (Moby, Everything But the Girl, Boards of Canada, William Orbit). I also hear a little chilled-out Daft Punk, but maybe that's just the French in them. As is often the case, shout out to Girl Talk for initial exposure to this (Sexy Boy). This is a genre I wasn't too familiar with prior to this project but am consistently liking.
A great and unique sounding album. Not quite pop, not quite downtempo, not quite psychedelic, but a bit of all at the same time. Some of the sounds used have aged a bit but that's OK. Key tracks: Sexy Boy All I Need Kelly Watch the Stars
This was excellent for work and reading and having an enjoyable atmosphere!
Sehr amüsantes elektronisches Album aus Frankreich. Ruhige klare Weltraumklänge mit tollen Vocals begleitet. Die Single-Auskopplungen „Sexy Boy“, „All I Need“ und ganz besonders „Kelly watch the Stars“ sind sehr hörenswert. Wiederhören, wenn’s mal einer Entschleunigung bedarf.
La Femme d'argent Sexy Boy All I Need Kelly Watch the Stars
It’s like the opposite of daft punk - adept conformist?
Really cool instrumental vibes! Loved this, looking forward to more.
Lowkey vibes, great for rainy Saturday afternoon. Highlight tracks were “Remember”, “Ce matin-là”.
8.5. Still a pretty good record. Holds up well. I have this on CD. Played it a lot when it first came out. Had a friend in NJ who loved this record and caused overdose on my part. Still solid though.
Es tan solo un album de ambiente
electro/synth-pop goodness
One of my go to chill out albums
Enjoyed this chilled blast from the past. Very mellow.
Cool down tempo album by FRENCH BAND
really wanted to give it a 5, but decided to round down from a 9/10
Wow this was really good I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected
Moon Safari, the debut album by the French duo AIR, released in 1998, is a cornerstone of downtempo and chillout music. From the first moment, it’s impossible not to feel transported to a space of reflection and nostalgia, wrapped in ethereal synthesizers, delicate arrangements, and perfectly layered textures. What really sets this album apart, though, is how it balances electronic sophistication with a tangible sense of humanity. It all begins with “La Femme d’Argent,” a track that immediately pulls you into a world where retro and futuristic elements coexist seamlessly. The pulsing bassline and gentle groove feel like walking through a sunset, as if time itself slows down. Every track feels intentional, but “All I Need,” with Beth Hirsch’s soothing vocals, is a standout moment. It’s a song about vulnerability and longing, expressed with a simplicity that’s both refreshing and disarming. That’s not to say the album is flawless. Tracks like “Talisman” or “You Make It Easy” lean heavily on minimalism, which can sometimes feel repetitive for listeners craving more dynamic shifts. But even that repetition feels deliberate, like an invitation to sink deeper into the atmosphere. It’s less of a flaw and more of a creative choice that aligns perfectly with the album’s overall mood. What makes Moon Safari so special is its timeless quality. Even after all these years, it doesn’t feel dated. AIR managed to tap into something universal, the need for beauty, calm, and introspection in the chaos of modern life. It’s not just an album you listen to, it’s an album you feel. Whether as the backdrop to a quiet afternoon or the soundtrack to a moment of introspection, Moon Safari is a classic that transcends genres and eras. It’s a defining work in electronic music that remains just as relevant and immersive as the day it was released.
Listened to it in the late 90's a little. A bit more in the mid-00's and now again in 2024. Has grown on me more and more over time.
Soothing and chill. I like it. 4/5
This was a pleasant surprise. I kind of felt like I was in a movie about to go on a journey. I’m not sure I would turn it on to listen without being provoked though.
Reminds of the music that must have played in Foucault’s head. Pure space funk. Perfect for a late night drive or a slightly stoned long Sunday winter afternoon run.
sono alla terza canzone e per ora mi sembra un album molto tranquillo, i suoni mi piacciono ed è anche un bell’album per studiare. All I Need mi piace molto, mentre kelly watch the stars mi sembra di averla già sentita e mi piace pure questa. Veramente un bellissimo album che sicuramente crescerà in me. Per ora do 4 stelle, ma ne merita sicuramente 5 in futuro!
Vibes. Vibes all the way down. Definitely good listening for this rainy day. I could see this playing in a hi-fi bar.
French electro jazz pop fusion
Oh, this is so chill. I wasn't sure if this would hold up after 25 ish years. it does.
Pleasant as always
This was a refreshing listen. Lo-Fi electronica with a newly discovered track that appeared on the soundtrack from the movie “Go.” Great album.
This is an easy 4 for me. I love this kind of shit. Lo-fi esque, chill shit like this is just so enjoyable
Very interesting sounds, opening track is very “vibey” and long. Definitely deserves a re-listen so I can focus on the details
It's just a good vibe all the way through. Everything feels really deliberate too and I love how chill it all is. Favorites were Le Voyage de Penelope, Sexy Boy, and Talisman
Just consistently good chill vibes. Like a soundtrack to a really good movie. Favorite songs were La Femme D’argent, Sexy Boy, You Make It Easy, and Ce Matin-la.
Sexy Boy - топ
I’ll definitely revisit this.
A real treat
Trippy
Sounds like space-age lounge music. Synthy psychedic effects, smooth electronic melodies, simple but moveable rhythms, chil melodic baselines. Occasionally added orchestral instrumentation create a cinematic effect. Plays nicely for just hanging out, but also for headphones in bed. It’s pleasurable to listen to but only had a handful of really great tracks, with several being mostly forgettable. But this album is more about the vibes than individual songs, and the vibes tickle me nicely.
9/10
Vibey
Sexy boy is one of my favorite songs of all time. The rest of the album is pretty hot or miss. I'm not really into downtempo, but better than I remember. More good then bad.
Moon Safari is the debut studio album by French electronic music duo Air, originally released in 1998. Some really strong triphop vibes here. Almost reminds me of Massive Attack at times. This record is super spacey and overall just chill. I can see how this record would influence more modern Dream Pop bands like Beach House. It's not afraid to get psychedelic and a little weird at times. Air also does a pretty good job at balancing more experimental tracks with some pop-leaning ones. They almost remind me a bit of Spiritualized. Overall a very cool listen!
I already have this album. Excellent laid back melodies. Fine album
Cool, felt ethereal without being boring which I think is an achievement. It was over before I knew it, this was perfect background music to work
Tolles Album. Mehrere Hits.
4,5
Fun sounds
I'm not into electronica, generally. But for some reason - maybe it's the interesting melodies, or the solid production quality - I enjoyed this album.
Keine Ahnung. Mir hat es gefallen.
This album has a lot of elements I enjoy, and nicely bridges 90s alternative and electronic. I was surprised to already know a couple of songs. A little mellow for me, but enjoyable. 4* Highlights: sexy boy, all i need, kelly watch the stars
All I need was a track I hadn't heard in a really long time, really nice to rediscover that one. The rest of the album was pleasant as well, relaxing downtempo electronica that doesn't get boring like a lot of other electronica does. The songs have memorable moments and melodies to them and don't overstay their welcome. Relatively short and sweet album.
Good album. Ambient with singles.
still in love with "All I Need" - ever will be. i especially enjoy the first part of the album. the only thing preventing 5 stars is the really slow and increasingly boring second part.
4 - доста интересни, нежни , с електроника елементи
Nice laid back vibes, a very welcome relief after the Germs album.
I enjoyed this album a lot- soft electronic with nice vibes and lyricality. Plus sexy boy is a certified banger. Good music for driving.
Pretty Solid Album, I would've liked more vocals but the instrumentation is great. 7.3/10
