Eh it was alright

Masterpiece

I mean. This record is the classic album. 5 stars.

Most of the songs are catchy, fast, and to the point. I cannot, however, get over my dislike of the southern/countryish sound or feel of the music. So there isn't a ton wrong with this album per se, but the style of music is not for me.

Simple, enjoyable, flowing 70s music. Nostalgic for a time I wasn't part of.

After listening to this album since I was a kid, I have come to believe the best version ends with “Silver Springs”, a song I was unfamiliar with until recently because it wasn’t on either of the two Rumours CDs in my house. (I’m sure I have multiple copies of DSOTM and Graceland too) September 20th, 2022

So many hits on this, gets an extra star just for the chain but loses one for oh daddy.

This album has everything. Beautiful music. A sordid and compelling series of backstories. And little moments (like Stevie’s barely-audible hum at the very beginning of Dreams) that give me chills. One of the great works of modern musicianship. I adore it. Gold Dust Woman is an underrated gem.

I didn’t know this album had all the old-school bangers. I’ve never listened to it in its entirety, but I’ve osmosed every track from other media enough that the whole thing seemed nostalgic for a time I never knew. Incredible what music can do, and what one album can represent for so many!

It is difficult for me to think of reasons to dislike this album. It's so finely crafted, from the meticulous production work to the excellent songwriting. Fleetwood Mac was somehow able to come together in a maelstrom of interpersonal issues to make one of the greatest albums of all time. It's unforgettable. Even at the album's weakest, the songs are beautiful and delivered with such emotion that it's impossible for me not to love it genuinely. My favorite song is easily The Chain for it's dynamic structure and hard-hitting chorus of layered vocals that drive home the thematic gravity of "we must never break the chain". I'll always have a soft spot for Don't Stop though, as it is closely intertwined with the music of my formative years. There's no other way to say it: Rumours is a perfect album.

Super chill

Can kind of understand why it's rated so highly, but I just didn't gel with this one as an album mostly Couple of standout cuts though, especially The Chain

It's part of my upbringing. It's a fine album but I don't own a copy (which says something) and I'd never listen to it by choice.

The production quality is fantastic, and this album has some of the best three-part harmonies in popular music. Every song is solid, front to back.

It is crazy how many hit songs are on this album. Granted, a hit song is not necessarily a good song. However, in the soft rock / pop genre, these are great songs. I agree that this album should be considered one of the greatest of the 1970s. I have always liked Fleetwood Mac's writing. I also like the idea of having three lead vocalists - all of them pulling their weight on different songs and making this album so enjoyable.

I was waiting for Fleetwood Mac - Rumours to appear. There's so many classics that makes it easy to mistake it for a greatest hits album. It's understandable why this one shows up on all the lists for greatest albums of all time. The big surprise here is that it's their eleventh album. Most bands have their best album early in their career.

I don’t think I realized how many of Fleetwood Mac’s big hits that I’d heard before came from this one album! Lots of songs I recognize but didn’t know their name either. Good ratio of good to meh songs

Slightly embarrassed to say I have never "listened" to this band, but I think I've heard 80% of the songs on this record about a 1,000 times. Part of that is my aversion to late 70s classic rock, and part of that is probably because they have so many different singers in this band, that I have never been to off the cuff recognizing all the different songs as belonging to the same band. I also have conflated them with The Eagles forever too. That being said, this is great, like I said I've heard so many of these songs a bunch of times, it feels super familiar, just not in the album format. I still don't think I love Fleetwood Mac by any means, but I'll give it a 4/5 because it's obvious a classic.

Fuck it, here we go. It's time. I've avoided this album for a while now. I've read the reviews, I've read all the accolades, I've read most of the accounts of what happened. Yet, when it was time for me to dig into the Mac, I've avoided this album. I mostly dig head over heels for its successor and it's become one of my all time favorite albums. And, yet, this album still rang its ubiquitous cultural bell. It seemed easy to steer clear from yet it never went away. So, when it came time to finally listen to this, I grabbed onto the chain. I didn't think I'd cling on this hard. I finally get what the fuss is all about. Rumours is the preparation for, and confirmation of, everything that is the complex nature of love and relationships. Even since its creation, its impact upon the creators and its listeners can be (and should be) studied on for however much time we have (even though it's not rocket science). So the rumours are true, I guess.... this is a fantastic album.

There are classics that don't hold up and then there is Rumours. While clearly a product of the 70s and created under incredibly difficult circumstances, this is pop rock of the highest caliber, great songwriting songwriters, coupled with creative, yet focused production. Four hit singles, and The Chain isn't one of them (the rare song written by all five, and awesome examples of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie's prowess), and there was no room for Silver Springs.

I don’t have anything original to say about this album, but it’s an easy 5. All songs but one are fantastic and the other one (songbird) is still very good. It has a totally unique sound.

One of those famous albums that is always on best of all time lists which I've never fully got. Listening now there are at least two all time great tunes and consistently enjoyable throughout, can't help but be distracted listening though. Maybe an album cursed by its own hype. 4.4

Damn near every song is a banger..

Just to lead off, The Chain is one of the greatest songs ever made. This album is a cross section of every single radio station in the late 70s and early 80s. It feels played out, but as I wrote in a different review, thats just because every single song is perfect and plays in your head 24/7. One of the all time greatest albums ever - 5/5

As a first time listen, it's pretty chill and vibey. I'm surprised how much of it I already knew from exposure alone. Can't say I'm a massive fan of Fleetwood Mac but I'm sure it'll grow on me.

Classic. Probably the 100th time I've spun this record. My only critique is that I wish there was more Stevie Nicks and less Christine McVie. Favorite tracks are "Second Hand News" and "The Chain".

I cannot say anything bad about this album. The songwriting is 5 stars alone. Fleetwood Mac capturing falling in love, being in a relationship, and horrible breakups all in one album and it’s brilliant, relatable. I always enjoy this album.

Dreams, Never Going Back Again, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman... so many classics that are amazing songs, and every track unmentioned here is good in its own right. Well done Fleetwood!

I've tried really hard to justify why I wouldn't give this 5*. But I don't think I can. It is genuinely a brilliant album. Listening to the whole thing in full for the first time, after seeing it sitting in my Dad's record collection since I was 2, I think I've been converted.

5 stars all up and down the road. All those cheesy "bow bow bow bow bow"s on Second Hand News? Love it. Not a bad track here. Clinton couldn't even kill my love for 'Don't Stop'. But the best here - 'The Chain', 'Dreams', 'Songbird'... I don't know, this is all great. And the back story on it, what was going on when they recorded it, is pretty great, too. Where's the biopic of the recording of Rumors? And Shawn - can I write a treatment of that and pitch it? To Lindsay or whoever? The story would kill and the soundtrack sells itself. Call me. (I listened to this three times today. I'm not a superfan, really, but this is good stuff.)

What a big album, what a distinct sound. It's an absolute soft rock behemoth, hugely influential. In parts it also feels - well - a little superficial. The sound is immaculate but I never feel like I can get lost in the music. The surface level is beautiful, but I'm not sure there's a whole lot underneath. Good, very good in places, with moments of genius. Yet I don't feel massively compelled to give Rumours another spin anytime soon.

Didn't get a chance yet to listen all the way through this, but I like enough of the hits to assume it's at least a three. But based on the strength of Craig's biopic pitch I'll bump it up to 4 and give it a 3,000 screen release. Suck it Top Gun!

Although aware of Rumours, obviously, I've never actually listened to it straight through. I never really understood the appeal of Stevie Nicks. Honestly I was kind of rooting against liking this album. Taking it for a spin "Second Hand News" quickly vindicates my assumption that Rumours is not, in fact, the best album of all time. But man is Dreams a great song, all time great, Stevie and all. Don't Stop is all worn out, not their fault to be fair, but still. Go Your Own Way also great. Songbird isn't as pretty as it thinks it is but then boom! The Chain brings the quality level back to maximum. After You Make Loving Fun there's a bit of a lull, I don't much like Oh Daddy, but Gold Dust Woman is a strong finish. I'm afraid the faults on this album are few and far between. I can only grouch up one star to deduct, and that's pushing it.

Genre: Pop Rock 4/5 A near-perfect pop album, and clearly Fleetwood Mac's magnum opus, Rumours is a real treat. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks trade pop masterpieces, while Christine McVie tries desperately to keep up, in one of the best albums the decade has to offer. There are some of the best sounding records of all time on this record, as Dreams, a record that has since enjoyed a renewed popularity via TikTok, is still one of the cleanest sounding rock tracks of all time. Well-arranged, well-sung, and well-performed, it fully deserved its #1, and is still one of the best soft rock songs ever written. As the album progresses (minus Songbird and Oh Daddy), every song is a treat. Never Going Back Again is casually one of the greatest acoustic guitar songs ever written and performed, so technically challenging that they needed two guitarists to recreate it live after Lindsey left. Go Your Own Way and The Chain are two of pop rock's best ever, showcasing Fleetwood Mac's knack for catchy melodies and great songwriting. You Make Loving Fun and Don't Stop, McVie's best tracks on the album, are two others from this project that are still played on radio to this day, a testament to the true longevity of these songs. And those are just the ones I'm naming. Really good shit, and an album I think everybody should love. If they don't, they're lying.

I don;' really like Fleetwood Mac but you can't really fault this. An impressive amount of classic songs on one album

"The Chain" mastered the art of suspense, verse, chorus, tappy drums... is it now, no! Then the same, same results. Then 3rd time round... boom, the F1 music starts. Loved it. The rest is remarkably unremarkable consider how well regarded this album is.

This one is an automatic 5 stars since I already listen to it on a regular basis. Not much to say about it that hasn’t been said many times already. Although there are a couple songs I don’t care for (Songbird, Oh Daddy), they’re still good songs.

Start to finish a monster album. Easily top 5 all time for classic rock. Probably Abbey Road then rumors for 1/2.

It’s decent, but not quite what I wanted from an album that I’ve heard so much about. The hits really reminded me of middle school since my parents played them constantly so it was fun to hear those again. The rest felt too afraid to take risks and just stayed confined to a tried-and-true box for soft rock/pop. 7/10

It's like listening to a greatest hits album! What a cracker. Faves: Second Hand News, Dreams, and The Chain still gives me shivers.

All the songs are great (or nearly so) and everybody who ever set out to do a break-up album (or poem or novel) can only dream of such success. Still it’s maybe not as interesting (for not being as sprawling or messy) as Tusk. I don’t really follow the song sequencing. The opener and closer both feel out of place – not the best way to start or end. Everything in between is aces, as one used to say, if a little too neatly packaged.

I was waiting for this album because everybody hyped it up and i thought it's very good. It's kinda boring, just good quality dad rock. I don't know how it got the title of "one of the greatest albums of all time" but ok, still pretty decent.

Quintessential Shitty Relationship Album

A stone-cold classic. This album contains one of the strongest collections of megahits ever gathered on any single studio album. It's a shame about the weak opener. Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, and Gold Dust Woman cram this record with more top-tier goodness than anyone should reasonably expect, and, as far as I am concerned, The Chain is one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded.

Ah. This is the famous Fleetwood Mac album. Honestly, I've never really gone out of my way to listen to these guys. Sure, if their playing on the radio or a music channel but album wise..not really my band. If it wasn't for the commonly played tracks I properly would've rated this lower.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac (1977) What makes a great pop/rock album great? 1. Solid foundation, with drum- and bass- playing that give evidence of a long history of experience in blues and rock. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie bring that in spades on this album, including (from 1970) keyboards/vocalist Christine McVie—having graduated from a solid British blues/rock career (1967-1974) to the hugely successful 1975 ‘second iteration’ of the band, when they added (Americans!) guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks, giving us literally the best of both worlds. The musical maturity on this album is superb. 2. Sultry lead vocals by Stevie Nicks (“Dreams”) and Christine McVie (whose “Songbird” brings a tear even without knowing the backstory), both of whose dynamism and discipline make for a perfect synthesis with musical settings; 3. Excellent mixing, with plenty of bass and drums, yet leaving plenty of space for well arranged guitar riffs and for C. McVie on this, the swansong of the Fender Rhodes (this was the last album on which that instrument sounded good); 4. Sensitive, intricate, and colorful backing vocals. C. McVie, Nicks, and Buckingham are all masters at backing each other (and themselves on well restrained overdubs), especially on the backing choral sections of “The Chain”, “You Make Loving Fun”, and “I Don’t Want to Know”. Youth choir directors should play this for the youngsters to show how it’s done (I know; I’ve done it and it works wonders); 5. Versatile guitar work by Lindsey Buckingham. From folk finger picking (“Never Going Back Again”) to driving rock (“Go Your Own Way” and “The Chain”) to haunting dobro (“The Chain”) to wailing electric solos (“The Chain”,“You Make Loving Fun”), he’s a master of many styles. 6. Top-rate songwriting. There’s not a weak song on this album, with solo songwriting credits going to C. McVie, Nicks, and Buckingham each contributing fine songs to the collection; 7. State of the art studio work, with plenty of time, thought, cooperation, and support from Warner Bros. Records (This was not produced on the cheap); 8. A sense of drama. Listen starting at 3:01 on “The Chain” and tell me if you don’t feel John McVie’s fretless bass crawl up your spine to the nape of your neck, before handing your scalp to Buckingham’s harrowing, screaming electric guitar solo. Or hear the development of the backing vocals on “Oh Daddy” starting almost imperceptibly at 1:20. These are stories in sound; 9. A boldly experimental approach, as in Mick Fleetwood’s numerous percussive treats on “Oh Daddy” and in the closing track “Gold Dust Woman”, including sound effects, electronic harpsichord, castanets, gong, and (wouldn’t you know it?) cowbell; 10. Clever and technically well executed cover art. This classic album can teach a serious listener how to listen better. Ignore it to your musical poverty. 5/5

Definitely in that category of great albums from the 70's, even of all-time on some people's lists. When it was released and dominated the radio waves with it's many hits, I tried to avoid getting caught up in the hype of Fleetwood Mac and didn't buy the album. Listening now, the record brings me waves of nostalgia and some weird fuzzy feeling when you think back to your youth...That being said, it is a classic record, but there are other amazing albums that should receive at least half the attention this one did then and now, during it's recent revived interest.

If you asked 1000 people to name one song off this album and made a histogram of the results, 99% of the answers would involve 'Dreams,' 'Go Your Own Way,' or 'The Chain.' This isn't a knock on the LP, but it definitely depends on a few anthemic tracks that have stood the test of time for most of its impact. The other songs are pleasant, but lack the absolute verve that these 3 powerhouses incorporate (as well as feeling a little dated... Wurlitzer much?), and it's hard not to feel as if they're filler around absolute killer in an album that dominates vinyl sales even today. The additional reliance on fadeouts for the end of every track gives the album an almost unfinished feel as well.

Already a favorite album since I was a child. Absolute favorites: Never Going Back Again.

I thought I’d like this album more. Maybe had too high of expectations.

This album belongs on the list of the 50 Best of All Time. Wonderfully composed, deeply meaningful and just an amazing LP. Granted a lot of songs have been beaten to death by classic rock (and soft rock) radio, but that’s because they’re so good.

This is a ubiquitous record in a way that sets it apart from most on this list. This is a record that music nerds, musicians, casual listeners, and everyone in-between, love. I'm not sure that it's my favorite Fleetwood Mac record, but its up there. Their self-titled record that precedes this has some more interesting songs. But this one is their classic. And it deserves the accolades.

Is there anyone who doesn't love this album? I'm not sure if that's possible. This is one of the greatest rock pairings of all time. So many hits came off this album, but somehow the lesser-known stuff is even better.

Amazing album.

So. This was awesome. An absolutely incredible album. I think that it kind of loses a little steam with the last two songs, but still a great record, and one that I'm glad I finally got around to listening to.

There's loads of in depth review so I'll keep this brief. There are some great songs, production and vocals. Loads of instantly recognisable tracks. This is truly great album and 5 star rating well deserved.

Equal parts cheesy and brilliant

Now this is a funny one, previously I'd dismissed this into the same category as ABBA or old pop. Course I'd heard the odd tune of the radio telly or whatever but had in no way engaged. Then a liverpudlian Bassist suggest we cover one of their songs. This made actually listen to them for the first time. At the same time the chain appeared in a dvd we were watching at the time about space bandits. And from there its grown the more I've listened the more I've enjoyed the variety of vocals and sounds. The pathos seems very real and the music is really quite beautiful. I was listening to this as the sun came up yesterday on a walk over the hills of my local area and I guenilly felt moved and tearful. Not many albums can do that.

Wow! An album that clearly deserves to be in some Top X Albums of ... list. Incredibly listenable, varied and interesting.

There's the album, then there's the backstory of its production, which I think adds to its overall appeal.

I never actually listened to this album in full until the first Covid lockdown, and despite all the stress and weirdness of that time, this album reminds me of sunny afternoons flopped in the garden doing nice embroidery things. Don't Stop felt SO HOPEFUL at that time!!! Faves: Gold Dust Woman, The Chain, Dreams (also I don't think this is on the official track list but I am OBSESSED with Silver Springs, it gives me the tinglies every time)

This is a perfect album.

It's just very very good isn't it

A product of Fleetwood Mac's internal turmoils, "Rumours" is hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. It's in the top 3 of this generator's global stats, and it apparently contains some of the radio staples in the Western world. This is my second time listening to this. My first time was a long time ago, I remember enjoying the trip as a whole, especially "Dreams", which is perhaps the greatest pop-rock song that I have ever heard. None of these are an overplayed radio track in my country, where every radio station is obsessed with '80s ballads. So listening to it now, it's fairly fresh to my ears. It's not as mind-blowing as some put it, at least for me. It's just an incredibly easy listen, one that would make your feet tap and head bob along the melodies. And it has some interesting instrumental outbursts too, the buildup in "Chain" being a notable example. It's pretty cool how this band, having two couples, were able to translate their conflicts into great music, let alone a pop classic. Truly a masterpiece, not something that I would adore, but it's something that I definitely respect.

Legendary album. Perfection. Production and mixing, especially with the vocals are flawless. Not a single bad song on there. Packed with mega hits and in a perfect 40 minute run time. The band has such life and groove, how can someone not enjoy this album?

What a true masterpiece. Not sure there is a better and more hit-loaded A-Side than this one. Each song of the album could be a single and a hit, no song is like the other, the combination of three great vocalists plus Lindsey's guitar play. Doesn't get much better than this

Funny skateboard cranberry juice song but not for me

One of my favorite things about one of my favorite albums involves a song that somehow didn't make the album. The song's exclusion instead adds to both Rumours and Fleetwood Mac's legacy. There are at least four reasons why the Stevie Nicks penned "Silver Springs" wasn't included on Rumours: 1. There wasn't enough room on the vinyl pressing, a common problem in the '70's. 2. "Oh Daddy", the song that supposedly was chosen over "Silver Springs", was written by Christine McVie about founding member and drummer Mick Fleetwood, and he really wanted it on the album. 3. The consensus among the band members (or more specifically, Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham) was that the album "felt" like it needed another lead vocal from Christine McVie instead of another spotlight for Stevie. 4. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had just ended their romantic relationship. Lindsey knew that "Silver Springs" meant the world to his ex-girlfriend, and in one final kiss-off, refused to allow it on the album (in another interesting twist, "Silver Springs" was the B-side for the Lindsey penned "Go Your Own Way"). All four of these reasons are true, but they mostly stem from reason number 4, as the lyrics for a lot of these songs suggest (especially "Go Your Own Way"). As it stands, the album has so many bangers from top to bottom that it doesn't ultimately matter that "Silver Springs" didn't make it. And if you listen to the Deluxe versions of Rumours, "Silver Springs" is included, right after "Gold Dust Woman". Stevie Nicks got the last laugh. She still got two signature songs on this album (including "Dreams", which is Fleetwood Mac's only Billboard Top 100 number one song and somehow re-charted in the top ten 40 years after it was initially released). And when the Mac reunited the classic lineup in 1997, "Silver Springs" was included in their MTV Video and live album "The Dance". Stevie's performance of her forgotten classic in The Dance is incendiary. Towards the end, she sings the "Never get away" part while staring DIRECTLY at Lindsey Buckingham. The fierce emotion of her face, coupled with Lindsey's frightened look, not only spoke to millions of Stevie devotees, but further defined the couple's relationship. Seriously, go watch that performance if you've never seen it. After Fleetwood Mac finishes the song, Stevie thanks the adoring audience by saying, "Silver Springs is a great old song". Which is sort of like saying Rumours is a great album. Both are true, but they're also huge understatements.

Yes, yes, another 5 star review. It really is a great album, though, spawned from an archetypally/near-comically unhealthy band relationship situation. Fave track - "The Chain" - that is an absolute monster of a tune...

Banger after banger after banger. What an absolute fucking gem of an album

There are a dozen or so albums in the last 70 years that are pure perfection. This is one of them.

I've always thought of Fleetwood Mac as being very talented musicians and songwriters, but lacking their own distinctive sound and their music being a bit clinical and 'MOR'. Listening to this album hasn't changed that view, however, the quality of the songwriting, performance, production and the sheer number of ubiquitous classics is such that this can't be anything other than a 5/5 record.

This is probably as near a perfect album as exists. A perfect blend of voices, sounds, talents...and so many iconic songs. This could well be my desert island pick.

I love this album! I remember when it came out and I really wanted to buy it. I was a little young...and when I told my folks about the lyrics of Second Hand News, "Won't you lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff?", I got a hard "no"! I didn't really think that sales pitch through. At any rate, I eventually got the album and listen to it often!!

This album certainly evokes a very specific time period for me. These songs were everywhere in 1977 and listening to them brought up memories of particular places and feelings. There's not a dud on the album. Every song is terrific. It helps that the band contains (more than) three great song-writers and vocalists, each with their own style. But these distinct voices can also blend into something sublime. Glad to have this opportunity to be reminded of it in its entirety.

One evening in the summer of 1977 my parents took two of my California cousins and their new husbands out to dinner when they were visiting our home for a week. They came home with Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album, having stopped off at Gibsons’ department store to pick it up the album because the California folks were insisting they had to hear it. My 9 year old self sat in the living room with them listening to Rumours unfold and was the first time I recall ever sharing a true moment of mutual wonder and discovery with my parents. Since that time Rumours has been a constant presence in my life. This may be the first time I realized what a unique and special album this is to me. It’s a perfect album. I know every note, yet listening to it today I still feel a rush of discovery I first experienced 45 years ago. I love every song deeply. Any one of them could be one of the best songs I have ever heard. Rumours defines timeless classic for me and is possibly the greatest album I will ever hear.

Overrated but still good. Dreams and The Chain are top notch. There rest ranges from average to pretty good, but not truly great. Don't Stop borders on being annoying. If you took the lesser songs off this album and combined the strong songs here with the best cuts of the self titled album you'd have a 5 star masterpiece. More Stevie would've helped too. More Stevie is always good. This is probably a 3.5 or 4. I'm giving it a 3 because my lord is it overrated.

103. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac 11 tracks. I knew the album, but not any of the songs by name. What an awakening this was. A really spectacular album that offered so much in so many areas. I listened to this again on a dog walk today with headphones & even better. 5/5

Solid album, bunch of classics 3+

Practically every song is a super-hit of the 70s / early 80s. Definitely feels like you're watching a movie from the era. The nostalgia factor is there and I could definitely see adding several of these songs to a dinner party playlist. In general, though, it's not something I'd listen to regularly

Que dire de cet album si ce n'est qu'il était attendu au tournant depuis le début du générateur. Les vieux de la vieille se souviennent d'ailleurs qu'il dominait le classement de l'onglet Global Stats pendant des lustres avant d'être détrôné par le très consensuel Abbey Road. D'un point de vue musical, c'est un sans-faute pour Rumours. D'un point de vue idéologique, en revanche, c'est une autre histoire. L'album entier est en effet articulé sur l'idée que la femme ne peut rien faire sans l'homme, point de vue que je ne partage évidemment pas et que je m'attache à dénoncer au quotidien. L'idée du projet est pourtant celle-ci. On nous présente pour ce faire deux personnages. L'un est un homme, chante admirablement bien, joue de la guitare comme un dieu, parle plusieurs langues, est diplômé d'Harvard et entretient son corps au jour le jour. L'autre est une femme, ne transmet aucune émotion par sa voix, a les mains pleines de boue, le dos bossu, parle un vieux patois incompréhensible, roule les "r" et dispose d'une hygiène corporelle exécrable. La thèse est défendue de la façon suivante : nos deux personnages chantent ensemble des morceaux d'une immense qualité puis l'homme se retire pour que la femme se prenne seule les pieds dans le tapis. L'homme revient ensuite, l'aide à chanter un futur succès commercial puis repart, laissant la femme dans la panade et ainsi de suite. Cette vision inégalitaire des deux sexes m'a vraiment surpris et déçu, pour tout vous dire. À côté de ça, vous avez sans doute aperçu mon nom de robchevalière dans le journal cette semaine puisque Robert m'a décoré à la suite de l'écoute. En effet, lorsque celui-ci a envoyé l'album phare du générateur ce jeudi, j'avais au matin pas moins de quatre albums de retard. Rumours était donc le parfait prétexte pour mettre ma fidélité à l'épreuve. J'écoutai donc en ce jeudi les cinq albums d'une traite et Robert me fit en soirée Chevalier de l'Ordre du Générateur.

9 mois, c'est le temps qu'il nous aura fallu avant de découvrir le tant attendu Rumours de Fleetwood Mac. Laissez moi vous expliquer le déroulé des opérations. Alors que mon camarade d'écoute robvernières et moi n'étions encore que de jeunes auditeurs du générateur, nous nous dirigâmes pour la première fois vers le classement global du générateur (à l'époque composé uniquement des 15 meilleurs albums du générateur, les plus anciens s'en souviendront). Et là, quelle ne fût pas notre stupeur. Au milieu des noms légendaires connus de tous tels les Beatles, les Pink Floyd (nul), Led Zeppelin et autres Nirvana, on pouvait retrouver le nom de Fleetwood Mac. Plus fort encore, ce nom figurait bel et bien en tête du classement. Or, mon rob et moi-même n'avions absolument jamais entendu parler de ce groupe. Nous prîmes alors la décision de nous diriger vers la page spotify du groupe pour en savoir plus, et la ce fut le choc: le groupe était extrêmement connu, avec une ribambelle de hits à disposition. Aucun ne nous semblait familier. C'est alors que cette aventure pris une toute autre tournure. Il faut savoir que rob et moi avons prêté serment d'allégance à Robert avant même de démarrer l'aventure générateurienne. Ce serment comporte plusieurs promesses, comme celle de toujours se tenir à disposition de Robert, mais une de ces promesses, peut-être la plus dure de toute se définit comme ceci: "Tu n'écouteras point les albums n'ayant été généré, et ce même si ces albums tu connaitras déjà". Cette promesse, dans un français parfait, peut paraître difficile à comprendre, laissez moi donc vous donner un exemple très concret: je suis un très grand fan des Red Hot. Les Red Hot n'ont pas été généré par Robert pour le moment. Cela fait donc plus de 9 mois que je n'ai pu écouter ces derniers, étant donné qu'ils sont pour le moment tenus en ôtage par Robert. Maintenant que vous avez bien compris, rappelez vous: nous ne connaissons pas Fleetwood Mac, et ne pouvons les écouter tant que ces derniers ne sont pas générés par Robert. A partir de ce moment là, Fleetwood Mac va devenir omniprésent dans nos vies. Sur les stories Instagram de nos amis, Dreams est choisi en musique de fond pour nous pousser à la faute. Sur les vidéos Youtube, l'album Rumours est placé en arrière plan de nos youtubeurs musique preféré. Plus fou encore, sur l'une de mes playlists Spotify figure The Chain. Je n'ai pourtant pas la moindre idée de ce à quoi cette chanson ressemble. Le mystère est entier. Mais après des mois d'embûches, de bâtons dans les roues de nos détracteurs, Robert nous offre enfin l'écoute de Rumours, en ce jeudi 6 Janvier 2022 synonyme d'épiphanie. Et là, quel ne fût pas notre choc. Cet album représente en effet une course entre les deux chanteurs de Fleetwood Mac, l'un de sexe masculin, l'autre de sexe feminin. Seulement, la femme est beaucoup moins à l'aise que son compère masculin, à la voix superbe et au rythme impeccable. Pendant tout l'album, elle tentera de refaire son retard lors de chanson solitaires, qui lui furent accordé afin de se remettre à niveau. Malheureusement, le cycle sera sans fin. A chaque retour du fabuleux chanteur masculin, il surclassera en tout point cette pauvre femme, prennant une avance considérable que cette dernière ne parviendra jamais à combler, se prennant régulièrement les pieds dans le tapis. Elle ne sera jamais capable de ne serait-ce accompagner ce merveilleux chanteur, dôté qui plus est d'une magnifique chevelure, se retrouvant même ne retard sur les refreins. Ici s'achève le mystère Fleetwood Mac.

The first album on this journey that I've actually listened to prior to seeing it on here. And I've listened to it a lot over the years and know all the songs by heart. What more can be said about it that hasn't already been said a thousand times about this album? This is considered Fleetwood Mac's magnum opus and one of the top 10 best selling albums of all time. All for good reason. Not a single dud on here. Absolute brilliance from start to finish.

Eine Inkunabel der Modernen Rock-Mythologie. Hier wird zur musikalischen noch eine weitere Ebene wichtig bei der Rezeption von Autoren-Werken: das Biografische. Abgesehen von den dramatischen, kokaingepuderten Irrungen und Wirrungen unter allen Beteiligten bleibt ein Album zurück, bei dem nicht alles vollständig überzeugt, aber doch schon weit über das hinausreicht, was 1977 Standard gewesen ist. Vor allem dankbar für die Wehmut in einem Song wie „Dreams“. 3.7

I am on board with the hype train. It's unusual that I agree with the masses but this album sits in my top ten.

I know everyone creams their knickers about this, but I'm just not hearing it to be honest. It's alright, nothing more. It's getting marked down because it's currently 2nd overall and that is fucking mental.

Slightly better than Lee Mack, no where near as good as mac and cheese. Most overrated band of all time? Probably.

What more is there to say about this one that hasn't been said? I continue to find new moments in this album that I love, like the harmonies at the end Never Going Back Again, or the kind of off-kilter strumming pattern in the intro of I Don't Want To Know. It's a wonder album with ups and downs and beautiful flow throughout.

Every song on here is fantastic. Musicality and lyricism are just beautiful on this album. There isn't a song I don't like. Favourite tracks: Dreams, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman

A perfect album

A big personal favourite. Not only as a sonic masterpiece as an album, but each song can stand on its own. I can't think of another group with 3 different lead vocalists that works so well. It's endured for over 40 years as one of the GOATs and remains endearing to each subsequent generation. What more could you ask for? Picking a favourite song is absolutely impossible, there are so many moods represented. If I'm looking for motivation - The Chain. Reading before bed - Songbird. Having a peaceful sunny weekend - Dreams, Never Going Back Again.

The 11th album from Fleetwood Mac is a pop rock album and was an instant commercial success. It sold 10 million copies in just a month, and all of the singles charted in the top 10 hot singles. The single "Dreams" is the most popular song from the album. In 1977 and 1978, Rumours won Album of the Year, the latter being a Grammy award. This album is certified 20 times platinum which means it's certified diamond! Rumours is cited as Fleetwood Mac's magnum opus and is one of the best selling albums of all time. The most wonderful part of the music on this album are the harmonies between the three vocalists of the band. These harmonies and the backing pop rock sounds make this album beautiful and of course, a bestseller. Everyone should give this classic a listen!

This album is the mount olympus of music. Soaring highs, crushing lows, and the depth of human connection birthed from the most totured of circumstances.

Gold plated classic. Charming, singalong, fantastic pop with great vocals and harmonies, superb musicianship and guitar work. It's one of the most popular albums of all time for a good reason.

Brilliant Break-Up album. So many memories from these tunes. The whole album is great and hard to pick a favourite but if pushed "Songbird" & "The Chain" stand out from a superb all round album. Has to be, post Peter Green, the best work they did as a band.

What can you say about this album. It's the perfect storm in its conception, context, and execution. As everything is falling apart for the band, they produce this cocaine-fueled miracle. The album is a greatest hits collection interspersed with other songs that fit perfectly. The harmonies, the lyrics, the instruments, the arrangements, the production, everything just works on this album 5/5

Solid Songs, Songbird, Second hand News, The Chain - favs

Never listened to this in full. Mostly familiar with the hits, sounded very clean and would be good to play along with. Filler tracks very meh but so much well crafted rock I'm liking it more than I did on first listen.

A classic. Memorable songs front to back, and really good replay-ability. Closer of Silver Springs is the best part in my opinion.

I listened to this repeatedly during the summer of 1977, and it's still a favorite.

It finally happened- one of my all-time favorite albums came up in the rotation :) Rumours is a go-to listen. My favorites are Secondhand News, The Chain, You Make Loving Fun, and I Don't Wanna Know. And yes I know that's almost half of the album. I even left some off :)

Songbird It's not a second hand news if you listen after the first one. Well, Fleetwood Mac at your greatest? It's what they'll tell you, but it was the mid centre of their history, delivering a massive licks and riffs throughout the years, I can tell it's very impressive at least. But to achieve this goal it takes by 10 albums before their classics "Tango In The Night", "Tusk" (it's included on the 1001 list), resuming the facts there were rumours since the begging but the news arrived only at this point. So it works by giving you the notice right after hook your attention in the other side, 11 songs for the eleventh album, you can't control that their best songs are on a side, when you got The Chain.

I guess you had to be there to get it. 'Chains' earns it a lot of goodwill, though. Ok, the second half of chains. The ‘Top Gear’ bit. And that skateboard song too. Laidback and fuck. But otherwise, the album is largely caterwauling for a live studio audience.

Has a rock /pop group ever put a better collection of songs on one record? Highway 61, maybe. Rubber Soul, perhaps. One great song after another. A remarkable achievement really 5 🌟

Second Hand News is a perfect pop song. What a treat of an album. Hopefully Lindsey Buckingham will eventually get to talk to Diondre Cole. Oooohhhh weeee!!! What up with that?!

I feel a certain obligation to give this a thoughtful review. It is after all one of my absolute favorite albums, and apparently is for a large number of reviewers on this site as well. But at the same time, I feel wholly ill-equipped to say anything about Rumours that hasn’t been said by a ton of other people. What can I say. It's Rumours, hands down one of the best albums ever made, not to mention one of the most beloved albums ever. It's a perfect production, full of perfect songs, perfectly executed. The songwriting... perfect. The vocals... perfect. The musicianship... damn perfect. Half of these songs have taken up real estate in our collective consciousness over the past 40+ years and they aren't moving out anytime soon. This album is Music 101: How to Make a Perfect Record, *but better*. What keeps this music from getting lost in the shuffle of run of the mill 1970s pop-rock is the stellar quality of the musical performances, plus three songwriter-vocalists who are each powerful enough to have led their own bands, had they chosen to do so. This is deeply rare in music, something just a few other bands have been able to accomplish. This is upper echelon rock music for the gods, delivered without a need for bombast or musical excess. The personal excess, well that's another story. Another reviewer made a comment that they cannot stop listening, and my god, if that’s not it. I have listened to this album I don’t know, hundreds of times in my life, and I’ve never tired of it. My feelings on it haven’t substantially changed, except it’s safe to say I like it a little bit more every time I hear it. How is that even possible? Individual songs, sure. Some of them have been overplayed on radio. So overplayed. If “You Make Loving Fun” or “Don’t Stop” comes up on the radio I don’t usually stick around for it. But as a collection, the full body of work? I will play the whole thing all the way through, front to back, no skipping. Individually these songs are beautiful, but as a group, they’re a freaking masterpiece. It’s funny, on an average day, if you asked me my favorite songs on Rumours, I would go for the same songs… Go Your Own Way, Dreams, maybe Second Hand News. For every juggernaut hit you have heard dozens of times, there is a “Never Going Back Again” hiding in the wings, waiting to come and charm you. I don’t think I can make the case for Rumours against the current #1 album on this site. I think #2 is correct though. You can’t beat this album… unless you’re the Beatles. Wat kan je hierover zeggen wat niet al ooit gezegd is? Zo goed dat je bijna vergeet hoe lang geleden het eigenlijk gemaakt is.

Buiten het feit dat dit een regelrechte classic is, vind ik dit album echt geweldig! Tijdloos, pakkend en emotief.

Geen slecht nummer en alles klopt aan dit album.

Goed en gevarieerd. Toch heeft het de weg naar m'n hart nooit helemaal gevonden :)

Vrolijke muziek, leuke melodietjes en een grappig stereo effect. Met deze ingrediënten zou ik verwachten dat dit album me zou grijpen. Helaas gebeurt dit niet en blijft het een beetje een standaard album met leuke (bekende) en minder leuke liedjes. Beste nummer is "Go Your Own Way" natuurlijk. ****

A classic for a reason.

This is a pretty damn good album. But, hate to be that guy, I always felt that the importance of it is overhyped and it's not as jaw dropping as it gets credit for. Tusk is on par with it imo

Obviously this is excellent and a legendary album BUT it gets so much hype. So overplayed, for good reason but that does dampen my enjoyment. Giving a 4/5 to shake the place up

I think Secondhand News is a great song to open with. It's got a great beat to it. The guitar and Stevie Nicks' performances in Dreams are very good. I love the rebellious Go Your Own Way. The Chain is their best song in how it sounds and how it comes together. Overall, I think it's a pretty good album, definitely not one of my favorites, but I can turn it on and be satisfied

Catchy, toe-tapping soft rock made all the more spicy by the behind the scenes drama. A fascinating blend of artists, writers and style, unconventional, idiosyncratic but it works. Steve Nicks sounds glorious.

A bunch of spiteful and heartbroken musicians came together to make a very pleasant sounding pop album, though I think it is quite far from being one of the best. While Dreams, Go Your Own Way, The Chain sound hauntingly beautiful, I find that the rest sounds too sappy and dumb. Maybe I need a few more years on me to understand the feelings communicated here. Untill then, this is a solid 3/5.

Although I've never listened to this as an album before, I was familiar with all tracks except for the last one and could have given the album 5 stars without listening. However, why would I do that? It was a joy to listen to it before giving it the 5 it merits. The music of Fleetwood Mac is deceptively simple but that doesn't cover up the underlying amazing emotional depth of their masterfully crafted songs. That goes both for their hits and their lesser known songs - but then again, this is Fleetwood Mac. They barely have lesser known songs. Probably every single track from this album has been aired on radio thousands of times - deservedly so.
