Reviews (page 7 of 7)

It is simple which makes sense because of the folk genre but I don't see what is special about this album

Kinda derivative folk.

Shakey Jakey

Pretty mellow though it occasionally takes some weird/quirky turns. I am generally easy to onboard with some alternative/folk, but i'm not a big fan of the delivery/style here.

Hmm. Not my thang.

I had never heard of this artist. Interesting music style. But at the end of the album I had heard more then enough of him.

This didn't appeal to me, as a genre. Some lyrics are quite nice tho

Very generic. not special. don't mind acoustic guitars but this was not my jam

Not for me. Guitar was really good, but the voice is just not my style. Some really weird moments in this album, too.

Gotta say that this is terrible. I really wanted to like this, but his voice is so, so, annoying and none of the songs are remotely engaging. There’s an air of pretentiousness to the entire experience that turned me off of the album entirely. I went in with high hopes and was seriously disappointed.

As bad as advertised.

Я устал слушать дрисню

As someone who is spiritual and into New Age-style music and folk, I thought I’d be way more into this than I was. But the lyrics made very little sense to me and it was not as profound an experience as I was hoping. Not for me.

One song was OK but the rest is rather useless

Ive been a big Devendra Banhart fan ever since i watched the film Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist and heard the song Lover. So i was really excited for this. Howeverrrrrr , it was AWFUL. So BORING and different to the Devendra im used to. And why was he doing a weird voice throughout?

Listening to paint dry would be more exciting and enjoyable

I hate everything about this. Down to the album cover. Just awful.

Interesting guitar work but this is pseudo-intellectual nonsense. Elephant pants gap yah final boss. Pants

How the fuck did this album sneak on this list

I don't like folk. This is particularly bad folk.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.

Not for me

Made me scream in pain.

I like indie folk, but this goes too far.

I was bored out of my mind. I wish I unheard this shit. I hate folk rock acoustic whatever as it is, and this only cemented my feelings about the genre. Why is this on here, I wish I rather died and not listened instead of listening before I died.

One of those albums which makes me wonder if it was deliberately created in order to be irritating. I found myself reaching for the skip button time and again, before I remembered each time that I have promised myself that I will listen to the whole of every album. Which means I can write that Poughkeepsie is extremely annoying. Will Is My Friend sounds like a character from South Park singing. Even reading the track title Tit Smoking In The Temple Of Artesan Mimicry aggravates me. All the instrumentation is strummed guitars, trying for twee folk and nailing it. The best the overview for this album can give are the facts of its release and a handful of uses of the songs in film and TV. This is definitely one for the "What the hell were the editors thinking?" pile.

On paper this should be something I'd enjoy. In reality the entire album sounds like someone turned Nick Drake into a mischievous twee ghost. I didn't care for this one at all and I'm not sure why it's part of the project.

How does this end up on the list. I feel like I have high tolerance for this folksy American brand of singer songwriter acoustic guitar sound, but this feels like a parody of anything good about that. Gets more insufferable as it goes and I did not finish. Yeesh. RYM: N Saved a song: N

I thought I might like it for a bit and that it might be a bit Sufjan Stevens, but it was mainly just weird and creepy and not enjoyable.

Störig

åh nej jag orkar inte med den där indierösten

Varför sjunga som en liten mardrömsfé

Oh wow. Now I feel very bad for the other albums that received only 1 star. They need to share the same score like this album. For this one I'd like to add minus points... It sounds like listening to "that random guy" at a party who grabs a guitar and starts playing. A lot of chords and rhythmic melodies, repeated endlessly for the artist can still focus on singing. Neither the vocals nor the guitar seem unique or interesting to me.

I can’t hear another album of a guy mumbling over acoustic guitar. I just can’t do it.

Bleurgghhhh I really hate this!!! Worst album Ive listened to so far on this journey. Hate the voice, acoustic vibes highlight the arrogance, this music gives yoga wanker to me bleeeuuurghhhj does absolutely zilch for me emotionally!!

I yearn to get back the minutes I spent listening to this shit.

I feel like this is worse department of eagles

Oh man, I'll pass. Another singer songwriter album, minimal instrumentation and it's really "twee." Another filler album for sure. Skip this one kids, it's dull.

Monthly listeners are too high for this one

Found this really not that great, the guitar that was supposed to be the highlight of the album felt uninteresting and a lot of the vocal performances bordered on being funny rather than being soulful and heartfelt. Quite a disappointment

Too slow, cringy voice that doesn't work in this pace

millenial music

Not for me. 1/5

I was listening to this album on my earbuds and it was unbearable. I switched to my nice headphones to see if there was some depth or richness of sound that was lost. Somehow that made it worse.

Another one that I struggle to understand why it's on this list. Is it horrendous? No. Is it amazing? No. Is it remarkable in any way? Not really.

more folk :/ this album was so boring, his voice is so irrating i liked the guitar but it feels like im being serranaded by a 16 year old boy

Dreadful folk junk not deserving of its place

Couldn't finish it, gave up at This Beard is for Siobhan

I somehow made it 9 songs in before tapping out. I could not imagine listening to an entire album’s worth of this. There is good folk music on this album list but this is not it.

An acoustic assault on the senses. Look, I've only recently managed to get into Bob Dylan, a folk album like this is way too heavy on weird fuckery for me to handle right now! Standouts: The Body Breaks • Todo Los Dolores

1/5 - I won't judge the album by its cover, but I'll judge it for having a song titled "Tit Smoking in the Temple of Artesan Mimicry." This guy sucks.

что за хуйня???

Old person radio music

When I was a teenager, everyone loved this album; was never my vibe. I never understood it. There are so many better albums from similar artists of the era. And I really don't understand why this album was picked over any of those in its genre.

Snooze fest. Sounds like 42 minutes of the same song. No variation in tone

It hardly sold any copies and musically is boring as hell. Why in the world must I listen to this? I was going to give it two stars when I thought it was from the 1960s, and then I looked and saw this album was made in 2004! By then this artist should have known better. This is some pretentious hipster tedium.

Pitchfork gave this 8.4, I give it 2/10. Pitchfork and I don't get along. Boring, pretentious nonsense for hipsters. Heard before ❌️ Listened this time ✅️ in part Revisit ❌️ Dull ★☆☆☆☆ (2/10) Total reviewed : 217 Already owned : 49 Purchased : 10 To buy list : 4 Nope : 154

Is it a good sign that I fell asleep several times? Not a good inclusion.

“The album has sold 24,000 copies” Good King Wenceslas! Why was this included on this list?

I could not finish this one, sorry, I try to finish all of the albums but this one was psychedelic twee.

Strange singer, strange voice, strange music.

Devendra Banhart, welcome to my Lone Star Music Club.

Nope, just nope!

ight who added this to the list

Meandering acoustic guitar bullshit. 1001st album to listen to after you're long gone

Not for me

351/1089 - This is kinda like that Joanna Newsom album (didn't like her voice or this guy's voice) but extremely stripped down which makes it significantly worse. Fall is almost a song I guess... Here are the album recs for all the 1 stars I missed: For Banhart: Think Tank - Blur (2003) A pit stop in-between the two Gorillaz albums combining the dub/hip-hop influence of Gorillaz with the Britpop and mild experimentation of Blur. A moody and exciting listen. For Spector: Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) I guess this is technically a soundtrack but seeing as a Bollywood soundtrack, DnB mixtape, and some Contemporary Classical is on this list, I don't think it's an issue. Everyone's heard Linus and Lucy and Christmastime is Here and Skating, good stuff.

Good god what a snooze fest! They Should use this album as the soundtrack to a documentary about napping. Or like for a Juno remake where they make it even sadder and more awkward and less funny. I had to skip thru most of the songs mid-song, I could not stand this whatsoever, takes a lot to get me to love folk music. positive notes 1) I actually enjoy his mildly annoying voice 2) Tit Smoking in the Temple of Artisian Mimicry is a pretentiously fun name for a song and the guitar in it was interesting to hear but won’t ever come back to that song either 3) cool album cover. His guitar playing is generally impressive yet not interesting. The rest of this album was dogwater. For me, generally, Great lyrics come after pulling me in musically and I just couldn’t get pulled in. I bet the lyrics are beautiful poetry that would have been more interesting as spoken word, but I can’t be sure because I had to protect my sanity by skipping most of it. 0.8 stars. ZZZZZZZZZZ

Mmm... First couple were ok. Rest got pretty wierd

Boy, this does nothing for me, which shouldn't be surprising because of the freak-folk association. I'm not anti-Banhart, though. I reviewed one of his shows for Spin and liked it, and he was fun when he appeared on Varietopia. So maybe it's just this flavor or era that doesn't grab me. While the write-up in the 1,001 book is almost comically hyperbolic in its praise, these songs just wash over me and are quickly forgotten.

Voice sucks. Indie boy sound. He might be from Texas but he has the worst fake southern drawl. Forced and fake vibrato. 16 tracks of the same song.

I have to admit that I should have paused this for the holiday weekend, and I might do so after this because I wasn’t into listening to Devendra Banhart while cooking for Thanksgiving. In fact, his music kind of creeped me out a bit. Banhart plays a kind of psychedelic folk music that is basically him playing guitar and singing. Add in that he looks like, or at least at the time of this album, Charles Manson and I was just not into this. I remember when Banhart came on the scene back in the 2000s and he was the new hot, weird, indie darling. I wasn’t into him then, and I’m not into him now. Full disclosure, I didn’t listen to the whole album. That has rarely happened so far on my journey through the 1,001 Albums. This will be short and sweet because I’ve got to bake the dressing and other fixings for second Thanksgiving today. Devendre Banhart is for folk music and Manson lovers, but otherwise, it’s great for Halloween. As for me, I’m out.

I was both bored and annoyed with this.

bleh boring didnt even bother listening

Langweilig

Folk, 60eme album =>1/5

Awful. Genuinely unpleasant to listen to.

Guitar work was good. Melodies were pretty. But can’t stand his cursive, bleating singing.

muito ruim filho puta que pariu representa mta coisa que eu abomino musicalmente

Didn't listen

Never got into him

Boring. Maybe two good songs but no energy in a lot of the album.

According to Wiki the only people to listen to this are a few Belgians, who, obviously, didn't know better.

Tried so hard to like this album. How is this album on the fucking list. They be letting anybody make music in the 21st. All these pseudo-ratings who are giving this album a 4 or 5 is absolutely ridiculous. Just wasted 42 minutes of my life.

It's hard to like music where it's just a guy and a guitar when you don't like the guy's voice.

42 minutes? You could've fooled me--this felt like an hour and a half. Devendra Banhart is a folk musician that brings me fond memories of nasal Bob Dylan. Most times, the album and its acoustic sound were peaceful enough, but I was so bored that it doesn't deserve a 2. I mean, some of the vocals were so soft they sounded like ASMR.

3/10 Guess I was in a bad mood today, otherwise might have gotten a 2, but I just have no time for this pretentious bullshit atm. The quiver in his voice... I just cant.

This album felt a lot longer than 42 minutes. Further proof the "guy with an acoustic guitar" is my least favorite music genre.

Listen, I *like* folk. This, though, was dismal. It tastes like the bottom of a cup of tea when the bag has burst. Around the part where the song just became a stutter for several seconds, I thought Spotify may have actually broken. Impressive.

No, not rejoicing at all.

Weird - just weird.

Now I like me a bit of alternative folk music, but 1001% not this. At best I’ll say that there is a decent guitar player in there, but it’s all a bit like that Eric Morecombe sketch e.g. I’m a brilliant musician, but I just struggle with putting the notes in the right order. And by christ, the voice, is he just trying out different versions of comedy voices for a laugh, it’s so so so grating. After 400 albums I think might be the one I’ve wanted to skip tracks the most, just awful. Come back Pere Ubu, all is forgiven.

Boring.

There's nothing here to be excited about. All run of the mill from the vocals to the instrumentals, the melodies and the lyrics. A couple songs with percussion were partially interesting but couldn't save hearing an artist who enjoys nothing more than the sound of their own voice.

his voice is really annoying ngl its super shaky and it sounds like he recorded it in his basement and even if we overlook that, the songs themselves are not good truly ass 0/10

No me ha gustado nada

This album sucks. I don’t know if this guy is trying to be poverty Bob Dylan or what, but his voice sucks, the songwriting sucks, it just sucks.

Folk Rock? You must be having a laugh. I generally like this genre but I recognise nothing on this album to give it the right to be classed alongside the Folk Rock giants. Just a fellow with an annoying voice and simple guitar style inflicting his untalented musings on us all. Will have to listen to my Fairport Convention albums to cleanse my ears. 1/5 20/7/25

Bland acoustic guitar music with nonsensical lyrics that would underwhelm if played at a dentist's office.

Not really a fan of this. It felt like it slowed down everything around me.

Neat for others. Not me. 1 star

I can find most i like in all music but this sort of stuff holds nothing for me. Just wanky, up its self, hippy dippy, hipster shite! Fuck Off!

This kinda feels like an attempt to channel a modern Cat Stevens vibe, but just doesn't have the same charm. Too many followers for me too, sorry Dev

Stop it right now. The guitar is nice, but the vocals? holy god, stop.

His wavery voice is intensely irritating (strange - doesn't bother me at all when Joanna Newsom does it, but drives me crazy here). Shame, as it ruins instrumental music I suspect I would quite like otherwise.

I was rejoicing when this album ended. It was so long and boring. 1001 album worthy: no - 85/156

This was torture to my ears. Sounded like some grandma got herself a guitar and a tape recorder and decided to make an album. How this makes this list is beyond me. I definitely could have gone my whole life never hearing this and it would have been fine, but now I have and it still sucked!

Yeah I just couldn’t find this enjoyable.

I do not have high hopes for this album. A lot of short songs though, so that's a plus. This is better than I thought it would be. I like just a man and a guitar. Poughkeepsie is a bad song. I think it was a turning point for this album, everything after it is just getting worse. This is music that takes itself too seriously as music. Even the titles of the songs are pretentious. Tit Smoking in the Temple of Artesan Mimicry is a truly terrible title. It is also the best song on the album. Just cut the outtake, dog, you aren't Bob Dylan. I know you want to sound authentic but it actively works against that because it's so intentional in the context of a studio album, release a live album or a making of album. Oh my god, I took a break in the middle of this and am getting back into this....shockingly bad to jump into again. Even a short album with short songs can seem interminable.

definitely the worst album i've been generated so far

Just not really my vibe.

Never heard of him before, and now I understand why. Right out the gates it's average folky music, a man and his guitar. Nothing new or earth shattering. No hits, nothing real compelling. He has some listens with the first 3 songs averaging about 2M listens and the majority of the other songs at around 500K. Maybe people like his message. Track 4 is crap. By song 6 I was bored to death and nearly asleep. This is SO NOT WORTHY of being on the Top1001 albums. I can't fathom how it made the cut, it sounds like a guy in his basement just thinking up songs ("This Beard Is For Siobhan", "Poughkeepsie") and riffing for his girlfriend who's not all that impressed either. Huge Fail to include this album. One star from me. Not compelling listening.

I thought it was a bad combination of Jack Johnson and Bob Dylan. His vocals were warbled and stylized. No sir, I don’t like it.

Two days in a row of albums that make watching paint dry feel thrilling. Rejoicing in the Hands was a snoozefest from start to finish. Whispery vocals, meandering melodies, and absolutely zero moments that made me want to hit replay — or even keep listening. If this is what rejoicing sounds like, I’d rather sit in silence. Hard pass.

This fucken sucks.

Didn’t enjoy it

He's got some decent lyrics here and there, but his vocal delivery kinda ruins it for me. Other than that it mostly feels like I've walked into a coffee shop for open mic night (derogatory), especially since almost every song just ends. There's no real flow here, which to me is an essential quality of a great album experience. It's just a collection of songs. If you love it when white guys play guitar at you though, you'll probably enjoy it far more than I could manage.

ugh, no.

this really deserves a spot here because sometimes you need to hear something unmusical, tone-deaf and horribly recorded to the point of clipping (and not in the controlled way... up tempo hard dance music is cleaner than this) to appreciate well good and well recorded music. This is some next level "wierd for the sake of wierd". At least the other "Artsy" artists on this list had the decency to record properly and this is coming from someone who listen to liminal music almost every day and is used to things sounding broken! I had to panicky change the second track because it was clipping so bad. this makes lo-fi seem like hi-fi Almost feel like they should give compensation for every victim who has to hear this -1/5

It sounds like a cat meowing the whole album, musically it has nothing to add to me.

Well, this does feel like the most 2004 album, but I can't understand why it's on this list. It's a dude and his guitar, and there's nothing that crazy about it, unless I missed a story in the lyrics I. Much better soft folk guitar out there imo

This is #day187 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... how on earth did this end up here? I could only make it through about 3.5 songs from the tracklist. The delivery didn’t sit right with me, especially since I can’t stand this kind of vocals. And then there was the music. Or was it? I was shocked to learn Michael Gira of Swans produced it, but that’s no saving grace. Hilariously, there are no Swans on this list. Is this an album I must hear before I die? Absolutely fucking not. This is a 1 out of 5. Looking forward to #day188.

Hänen kulmansa folkiin on modernius sekä makeileva lauluääni. En kykene kulutukseen.

I can't review this noodly bullshit because I died of boredom listening to it.

Kind of like that dude you know from Freshman Week who’s always out on the lawn with no shoes and his guitar and you’re desperate not to catch his eye because if he sees you he’s gonna be like hey dude I learned another Leonard Cohen song for you and you’re gonna be obliged to go over and listen or come up with something lik3 wow amazing but I’m late to meet my friend for coffee and then he’ll be like I don’t know why we don’t hang out anymore dude and you’re gonna have to be like I know I know man we’ll come up with sometime soon…

Trying to look like Frank Zappa. Trying to sound like Nick Drake. Failing at both. This was dreadful. A painful listen that only gave me joy when it ended. Never again.

Used to hate this guy. Can't really remember what he sounds like. Not keen to be reminded. That 'new weird america' scene or whatever was disgustingly pretentious and lame (Joanna Newsom gets a pass even though I don't particularly rate her). The top review guy for this has potentially the worst music takes I've ever seen, just as an aside. Still not listening. Listen to Angels of Light instead.

If you want falsetto proto-metal

1- Stars (1/15)

Wrong mushrooms.

This is an album made by the worst human being at a party who decides everyone needs to hear his insipid fake spiritual songs about “his journey”. What a terrible pile of wank

What an unpleasant vocal performance.

Vreselijk

I didn't like the last album I heard, but this one is even worse

Didn’t love him then. Don’t love him now.

Hipster shite.. pass

The music on this album is perfectly pleasant, but Devendra's voice is bordering on annoying. The whole thing has a twee smugness which winds me up. It feels like coffee shop music, if the coffee shop was run by wankers.

Hate this. Hate this. Hate this. I had a little dig on YouTube to watch a few interviews or music videos to really get my hate boner throbbing, but disappointing nothing else seems as upset as this. He’s just a bit of an arty California wanker. But the tone he affects on this album goes right through me, and that’s what I’m marking today. Easy 1 star.

Bestimmt toll wenn man an einem warmen Sommerabend am Strand in beschwingter Runde sitzt, jemand hat eine abgerockte Klampfe mit und sorgt damit für andächtiges Lauschen in den Gesprächspausen. Aber nur dann.

This album reminds me of the time I accidentally gave a Miles Davis album 2 stars on here. It was a mistake, I did not mean to give Miles Daves 2 stars. Please forgive me. This is far too reminiscent of early T-Rex. Not in a good way. Yep 16 tracks in he's still doing the wobbly voice thing. I mostly don't like it. I sort of like track 6. If you are going to put a Devendra Banhart album on this list surely it should be Illinoise. Sorry mate this is pants.

I slept through the songs marked with a rating of 4.0 and I don't feel bad about it at all. On the other hand, I do feel sorry that I stayed awake for the others.

Aimless folksy? I didn't enjoy it.

🤢🤮

rym 3.40 ma cristo dio che senso ha dire a un sito: "non voglio merda folk/cantautorato" se poi lui te la propone lo stesso 1/5 lo odio

Pretty but idk why it belongs on this list

I wanted this to be over quickly.

und wer macht morgen das „album of the day“? handgestricktes irgendwas, sorry.

A bunch of songs that would be forgettable but fine interludes on an album where the artist had done something worth listening to otherwise. If you got Michael Gira to sing on these they could be throwaways on an Angels of Light record. the vocals are awful and give the impression that Devendra Banhart is an unpleasant person to be around. the emotionally manipulative creep vibes are so strong that I am giving this the rating that this whole archetype of guy deserves. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

This is definitely one of the most interesting albums I have listened to so far, and it's a really hard one to make an opinion on. Like, I feel like I should like this, but there's something so unsettling about it. It's really hard to describe, so maybe it's pointless to try and review it with a reason for why I don't like it. There's just something so off putting about this that I have no idea how to describe. His voice is almost creepy, and the lone acoustic guitar gives this album such an isolating sound. The further I went through this album, the less I liked it. By the time I got to the last few songs, I just couldn't wait for it to be over.

Some nice guitar playing but also thought it was incredibly boring and didn't really care for any of the songs

I'm torn between the phrases "annoyingly twee," and "annoyingly fey." I've actually seen Devendra Banhart live, I've just remembered. A friend from work got me to go - probably around the time this album came out! I wasn't really into it. I get a Russel-Brand-vibe off of him. I wouldn't be surprised if he released an album called "My album-y walbum". So I'm a bit prejudiced against this album from the get go. Listening to it... Oh yeah, he's got a voice like Marc Bolan. And the songs sort of noodle along... This is a bit like "Passenger" or those chart-topping singer songwriters. All husky voices and meaningful-sounding but meaningless. Suitable for an indie film where a young man with a beard stands on a beach looking wistful. Okay. I'm five songs in and I get it. It's possible I'm just not in the mood for this. But I'm going to have to take a break from it at least.

Too much whimsical acoustic guitar. Dullton FC

For what it is its OK. There are far better exponents of this genre, can't see why this is considered anything more than a passable one. I mean why no Yuseph Islam (Cat Stephens) or Donovan Leach. Sorry but there have been albums here that I really didn't like, but I could understand their inclusion because they may be shit but in their genre they were special. Can't see why this would have that quality. A solid 1.

If only this was an instrumental! Loved the guitar work and mood but ruined by a maniac trying to sing

Escuché unos segundos, una hippeada espantosa

Folk/acoustic. It's aight. Some boring crooning. Kinda sounds like the guy from alt-j. It mostly sucks.

Mindless and boring.

totalnie nie moj styl, jeden nieprzeszkadzacz, reszta troche dla wiedzm typu olka posadzy

All sounded the same

no thanks!

Self-indulgent folk nonsense. Bailed after three songs.

This is some of the dullest music I’ve ever heard. Good god man.

Could t get into it.

Not my cup of tea at all.

Plagsomt

Just meh. This didn’t do it for me at all. I didn’t feel any connection whatsoever. Didn’t feel any emotion listening to this.

Word er zenuwachtig van

Blind album and artist. Not impressed by this personally and not my kind of music. N. O.

Well I listened to it and can move on.

Amazing! What an unbelievable crap!

Wow, what the fuck is this? I could’ve died happy not hearing this one. If I could give this album a 0 I would.

Nothing special

Some of the guitar was nice but the vocals and lyrics were rough for me

Kill me now…what a pile of shite.

This is really the kind of self-absorbed garbage that makes me question the validity of 1001.

Not to take anything away from anyone else but...Not my thing, not our thing. I've always been shocked to see these albums in the Young God catalog.....

Didn’t care for this one. The music, lyrics didn’t resonate with me

Almost as bad as ZZ Top

vuoden 2004 käsitys taiteesta

So boring

Not gonna lie and not gonna apologize: I couldn't make it through this. Songs about beards are one thing, but that shit where he's basically naming Elvis songs in the lyrics and adding twenty extra V's to the word "viva"? I'm out. Not saying he doesn't follow in a long line of folk singer songwriters whose voices are an acquired taste, but I have no desire to acquire this particular one and I'm just gonna chalk that up to taste.

Yuck. 1.0.

It’s like we got a week of good albums and now I’m being punished for something. I don’t even know what to say about this album except that it was awful. Poughkeepsie especially. Just nothing good about this album except that it was relatively short so I didn’t have to suffer THAT long.

Scene: ...I find myself going out to dinner in summertime in the city and there ends up being a ~45 minute wait for a table and we decide to just sit outside on a bench and pass the time listening to a nice mellow busker across the cobblestone... this sounds quite nice.... I mean, sure, it's the setting - we're all feeling non-committal just sitting here absorbing, he's over there with his acoustic guitar, got some interesting chordal structures, a very unusual voice, hmm not sure where some of the songs are going so I drift a little ..."...man, is our table ready yet?... yeah he's pretty decent although maybe this would sound a little better with a band or some production backing him up I'm getting a little sleepy and maybe grouchy but no no it's fine I have a Snickers bar in my pocket, should be only a few more minutes this is sort of dragging no? is his voice getting worse? ah let's stay here they're probably calling us any second... yeah i heard those lyrics too, the ones that went 'i could take my teeth out and show them a real good time' yeahyeah what...ok you're right let's go wait inside instead good call..." Then after my unexpectedly not great and still unsettling meal I go home to find that my "album of the day" just happens to be this same music which has been placed on an album that sounds like it may have been recorded in an empty refrigerator box in the corner of his tiny kitchen in his grimy 3rd story apartment and consisting of exactly the same set and not only does it just not ring true I really can just reach for a snack in my fridge or better yet the Tums in the medicine cabinet and call it a night and be done already. 2/10 1 star.

This was like someone recording in their bedroom for their Mum’s pleasure. I hope she enjoyed it because I definitely didn’t ! 1*

Possibly because we had two awfully warbly singer-songwriters albums in a row this got short shrift.

Odd. Anyone know why this is in the list?!

This is just shite

Also: ich muss das nicht gehört haben. [gähn]

Not for me. Only made it to track 2

Boring and slow. His voice was also weird...

lovely

Wow, suuuper plate

Weird shit. Not a fan. WIll never willingly listen to that again.

Found it really hard to enjoy this considering half the time all I could think about was how his voice reminded me of Adam Sandler’s while performing the Hanukkah Song. In general, I just found this really boring, and not for me.

This simply bored the ever loving shit out of me in the most annoying way possible. And that's just not something I can admire.

One of the most annoying albums I have ever listened to. The voice of Marc Bolan's irritating brother coupled with twee as hell acoustic guitar. I rejoiced in the end of the album.

AJ: LOUD FART NOISE

Didn't really do anything for me

Not available in Mexico

Some ass

A folk singer that can’t write lyrics or melodies. It’s a novel singer and guitar approach… Christ I’m only on the first song. The only positive is that each dreadful, insight free, song is mercifully short before the next tuneless banality begins. Only 25,000 copies sold and I'll take a punt as to how many ended up in charity shops.

Folky with lots of guitar snd vocals. Meh.

This simply doesn’t belong on this list Cover art: 1/5

Boring, pretentious crap. Was there actually an intentional "outtake" left on Todo Los Dolores???? Perfectly sums up music like this--trying entirely too hard to be artsy and against the grain

Did not like this at all. Like a shitty version of a Damien Rice album. I think the shittiness was further intensified by the fact that there was a whole movement of this sound maybe 5 years later. Nothing exceptional about this sound at all. Also, there's no reason for this album to have 16 tracks. It's a mess.

My god its tedious

I don’t really like his concert. Nice guitar licks and really poignant lyrics. To clarify, some of the lyrics are poignant he said buhbuhbuh maybe 20 times.

I don't like their voice. I really don't like this. Yep, still don't like it even with it being in spanish and 4 and a half songs to go. This folk singer songwriter sound has never appealed to me and its sort of nice to know that it still very much does not.

Fuuuuck hvað þetta er leiðinlegt. Hreimur og fraseringar drepa mig

Loada wank.

Annoying, repetitive riffs and vocals. His voice is not fun to listen to. Bleh.

Don't think I would listen to this again.

Pretty bad. Not musical. Not interesting.

Pessimo

Pretentious, hipster, an obvious rich kid slumming it.

Couldn't finish this album

Sounds like the same song over and over

This album was a rough listen. It has the dubious honour of being the first one I haven't remotely enjoyed.

Weird modern folk. Was not a fan

No idea what this might be. Some kind of indie/folk/religious thing? The cover has me stumped. Oh god it's folk rock, and it's someone in 2004 trying to sound retro and 60s. Dude's voice started out annoying and only got worse. Songs were just nothing - same thing repeated over and over. Another fine addition to the list lol. 1/5.

Nope. After 3.5 songs... Just nope.

Wikipedia describes this as "psychedelic folk", which - I guess? A few interesting progressions among the dissonance, like the glimmer of light in a Bartók piece.

Not a good album. I wanted to skip most of the songs.

plain bland mild boring samey. not one redeeming quality. especially dislike his voice and the weird inflections. 44 albums in, this is the one ive disliked the most so far.

no please, folk == not it chief

Sounds like a rough demo rather than a fully realised album. Quite poor.

Some cool guitar lines, but I can't stand the voice, seemingly a large part due to the vibrating style. Some songs want me to give this 2 stars, but I feel this was worse than Murmur.

Awful - managed 3 tracks.
