Jay Z is a good lyricist and the production value on this album is top notch, but hot take: Jay Z is an overrated rapper. I just find his rapping so monotone. I skipped several tracks because they just sounded repetitive to me. This album was ok.

Super fun, funky and danceable.
Old-timey goodness
K, that was not the Talking Heads I was expecting. 😂 Big Weirdos. But I love them. Not my favourite TH album, but glad I gave it a play through. 👍
Not at all familiar with this album. It's quintessential 90s hip hop, though. Full disclosure, my appreciation for hip hop only began in the naughts (00s). I'm still learning about this genre of music. I love the sampling throughout the album. Great wordsmithing too, albeit not safe for work in the slightest. "I leave 'em split like ass cheeks [...]"
I've never considered myself a Stones fan, but that may have changed after listening to this album. I loved it all. Obviously, I was familiar with Paint it Black, but I also feel like that song in particular was a bit ahead of its time. I had no idea the song was that old. And it certainly stands out on this album, IMO. That said, the whole album was quite enjoyable. I'll probably listen to this again.
It was ok. There were some parts of the album I really liked and then others that were just noise to me. My younger self would have enjoyed tripping out to some of the tunes. 😂
Ugh. I wanted to like this album, but it was just ok for me. Some of the songs I felt like Dr. Frank-n-furter was singing. 🤣😂 It was really distracting. There were a couple tunes I enjoyed, but overall I found this album all over the place and just 'meh'. There was at least one tune that gave me a techno/rave vibe which was kinda cool given the time this was made, but it was also kinda annoying, because, well, techno. 😂
Full disclosure: Sonic Youth's Goo album was on heavy rotation for me in my teens, so this was like visiting an old friend. The familiar guitar distortions, Kim's husky voice (although I wish there was more of that in this album) felt like a trip down memory lane. It's definitely not my favourite Sonic Youth album (duh), but it was fun to listen through.
Epic.
🔥 So good. Wasn't sure what to expect. Did not disappoint. I'll be listening to this again. 🔥
I liked this way more than I thought I was going too. I'm only really familiar with their 'radio' songs, but I enjoyed most of the tunes on this album.
I'm pretty sure this is one of those albums that I'd 'steal' from Dad's collection and listen to, except I always stopped listening after the first song. 🤣😏 Glad I gave it a proper listen through. Great album.
Dinosaur Jr has always been a hard no for me. Listened to this album, and I still feel the same. 😂 I have a lot of friends that are big fans, so I've been exposed to their music... a lot. Always sounded like off-key noise to me. 🤣 #sorrynotsorry I'm also usually a big fan of covers, but not this one (Just Like Heaven), nothing heavenly about it. 😏
Will I ever listen to the album again? Probably not. It was fun though. Gave me vibes of punk shows I used to attend in the 90s.
IMO, Bowie can do no wrong. 😂 Love this album. It's bittersweet and hauntingly beautiful. It's not something I would listen to regularly because it's also a bit depressing. Masterwork.
Perfect album for Sunday morning chores. 🤘 Great album.
This is the first Tupac album I've listened to and it was better than I was expecting. The genre of music still leaves me 'meh', but the whole album as an artwork and commentary on his life is exceptional.
I loved every second of this album. So good.
This is the first album that we've been listening to that I skipped a song half way through. I'm familiar with a few of the tunes on this album and they are definitely classics. This jazzy style of music isn't something I enjoy, most of the time. I've heard enough forms of jazz music to last me a lifetime working for a Jazz festival. 🤣 It's good, but also just meh for me and occasionally it was nails on a chalk board. Coincidentally, that's exactly how I feel about jazz music. We have a complicated relationship. 😂😂😜
This was a good album and introduced me to some new tunes. My favourite track off this album was the first one Intruder
Good album. 👍
I can confidently say I will NEVER listen to this album again. Awful, retched, just terrible. I was already in a pretty foul mood when I put this album on and it did nothing but make me moodier. I like a good industrial album that's heavy on noise and distortion, but JFC, this was like a bunch of toddlers were given electric instruments and loads of sugar.
That was a fun listen through. Lots of nostalgia, not mine mind you cause I never listened to this in my youth, but someone's nostalgia. 😂 It IS crazy to think what was coming later. Hip hop has had quite the evolution.
This made my angry little goth girl heart happy. It's not my favourite NIN album, but it has a couple of my favourite NIN songs, including Hurt. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is probably one of the best covers ever.
New to me. Hot take: I loved this album. 🤣 I was expecting something much worse given the comments here, but it was lovely. Loved his voice and songwriting.
New to me. Loved it. Was a great album.
I've always found Lorde to be a wonderfully weird artist. I wasn't familiar with this album except for a couple tunes. It's the album that my broken-hearted teenage girl needed back in the day. Liability just hit me to the core. Same with Writer in the Dark. I felt those songs deeply. Although I appreciate Lorde as a solo music artist, I absolutely adore her as a writer.
This was the first album that I had to turn down. Some of those high-pitched sounds were way too much for my middle-aged ears. 😂🤣 Overall, I did not enjoy this album. A bit all over the place for me and sometimes a bit annoying.
This album was okay. I don't know if I'll ever listen to it again, but I didn't turn it down or skip any songs. 🤣😂 😏
I'm a huge fan of Dolly Parton as a human being. I've never really listened to a lot of her stuff other than the 'classics'. This album was fantastic. Loved every second. Never thought I'd say that about a country album. 🤣
I know every word of this album. I've played it more times than I can count. A classic from my youth. ❤ 🔥
Jay Z is a good lyricist and the production value on this album is top notch, but hot take: Jay Z is an overrated rapper. I just find his rapping so monotone. I skipped several tracks because they just sounded repetitive to me. This album was ok.
Great album. Really enjoyed it. 🙂 👍👍
I'm going to make a note of this album for when my mother-in-law visits. She's always asking us to play something else, like the oldies. This fits the bill. 😂 Fun listen through. Not something I'd gravitate towards usually, but I've always loved a good piano player. 😏
Short and sweet.
Wonderfully weird.
I don't think I've ever listened to a Tom Petty album, but I'm glad I did now. I'm really only familiar with his biggest hits, but there are so many other great tunes that don't get the same airplay. 🔥
This was weird. I like weird. Reminded me of this compilation album some kid put together in the 90s called "Shannon's Tape". 🤣 Now I see where he got some of his influence. I certainly won't listen to this album regularly because it's more of an art piece to me that should be savoured. Definitely an album I'd recommend people listen to at least once.
Meh. It was okay. Maybe it's an album that grows on you with each listen.
What a voice! Ah-mazing!
Solid album.
Smooth.
Fun! And I swear I've heard the tune Dandy in some horror fare I've consumed, maybe AHS?
I did not know what to expect with this album. I know I did not expect some of those lyrics to go along with the music.
Of course I was familiar with the title track. It was cool listening to the rest of this soundtrack. Especially since most of the soundtracks I grew up with were either a mash of popular tunes OR something by Danny Elfman.
It's the late 80s and I'm playing the song "Imagine" (recorded from the radio) on repeat. My Dad tells me to listen to the album. He has it on cassette. It's in a case full of cassettes (which is where a lot of my early influences came from). He probably had it on LP too, but we weren't allowed to touch those and he couldn't play them a lot because the kids made the albums skip while they were running around the house. 😏 So I scurry off to my bedroom. I pop in that cassette and listen. "Jealous Guy" becomes my new obsession and is ceremoniously played on repeat for the next several weeks. 🤣 I'm pretty sure that's not what my Dad was trying to accomplish, but core memory activated so it's a win. 😂😏 Yep, this album brought out a lot of memories for me. Classic. Iconic.
I never saw myself listening to an album like this, nor did I see myself liking an album like this. 😂👍👍
That was super interesting and fun.
Picture it: Ontario, 1993. There's an angry little goth girl laying on her bed overcome with emotion because her boyfriend cheated on her. She looks at her walls - covered in creepy art, dead flowers, and ripped up fishnet stockings. She puts on the album Disintegration by The Cure, then turns her gaze to her tinfoil and tinsel covered ceiling with reflections of red lights she's pointed at it. She lays there listening. Over and over. Disintegration becomes the lullaby that mends her broken heart.
Not really familiar with Crowded House, but I enjoyed listening to this album. I'm familiar with one of their tunes, Fall at Your Feet, but only from jesse Cook's cover (which IMO is far superior to the original). I think my favourite song on this album is There Goes God. I had to look the lyrics up because I wasn't sure I was hearing the chorus correctly. 🤣😂 Yes, yes I heard it correctly and it's amazing!
Super groovy! Loved it!
No idea what this dude was singing about, but he sang his heart out! Bravo!
Two things: Neil Young is not that great of a singer AND why do I enjoy listening to him? He's such a paradox. 🤣 👍👍
Definitely interesting. I did not care much for the few vocals in this album. Also, I'm pretty sure I danced to some of these tunes at various clubs. 🤣
Wasn't sure I was going to like this album, but I loved it. I was familiar with a couple tunes, but not the band nor this album. 🔥🔥
Nope.
