Almost every song was a hit and I was surprised that I knew almost every one of them. It was really well done and I can appreciate the craftsmanship and how impactful it is, it’s just not the flavor of music i could see myself listening to regularly.
Love me some post punk. I could listen to this every day.
It was fine. Just wasn’t my cup of tea really. I know this album was impactful and extremely well done, it’s just that the genre wasn’t my thing.
The opening track was fantastic! What an interesting genre I wouldn’t listen to normally. And I loved the song Mbube. The arrangements on everything really show the skill of everyone involved creating this.
What an incredible voice! The songs were jarring and I really enjoyed them.
I had a Sinatra phase but I don’t think I ever listened to any of his albums all the way through, except for “Best Of”s. There were some gems here, but each song really felt kinda same-y.
Love it. But I don’t think it’s their best album
Not a huge fan of gangster rap, but I can appreciate some of the singles on this album.
It was fine, but I don’t think I’d listen to it again.
I love VU and Lou Reed and have listened to this album many times over the years. That said, I don’t think it’s their strongest work and I’m not as big of a fan of Nico. Need more Lou!
This album was forgettable and seemed pretty uninspired. Really did not care for the lyrics or sound and it just felt like a cookie cutter of other much more talented bands of the same era.
It’s clear that this is a groundbreaking album. Miles Davis is extremely skilled and this is an engaging album. I can appreciate all of that but it doesn’t get 5 stars from me because I don’t think I could listen to this every day.
This is up there for me in terms of albums I’ve listened to repeatedly over the years. The music video for Smack my Bitch Up still stands the test of time as one of the most shocking imo. Love Kool Keith on Diesel Power. They put on a great live show too!
This album is the progenitor to so many electronic acts and I’m pretty sure helped launch Daft Punk’s career. It’s another one I’ve listened to many times over the years and it holds up really well!
What a powerful album. Dillon was the voice of the 60s in a lot of ways. This actually was my first time listening to the album all the way through and not just to individual songs. I could see myself listening to it again in the right mood, but it’s not one I’d have on repeat like some others.
I love this album and have listened to it several times since discovering it 4-5 years ago. The baseline to Simple Song is one of my favorites out there. It’s also an important album and has influenced so many other acts. That said, many of the songs just don’t grab me, and I’m not as huge a fan of Everyday People.
What an interesting album. So beautiful and touching and after reading about it the lyrics are a lot less shocking. That said, would I listen to this album repeatedly? I’m not sure about that.
Every song on here is a hit! They are the progenitors of hard rock and their skill shows here.
This was a pretty unremarkable album to me. I only give it an extra star because it sounds like the artists were trying something new.
What a surprising album for me. I wasn’t as familiar with Blur as I thought I was, though I’ve always liked them because I love Gorillaz. This album put Blur on the map and it shows. I love how multi genre it is.
It’s clear this album is the inspiration for so many electronic music acts. It’s heavily experimental and psychedelic, while also being a bit more structured. I’m giving this 4 stars because while I don’t think I could personally listen to this album every day, it’s definitely an important album.
This was just fine. Maybe I don’t have as much appreciation for this genre or my mood wasn’t as into it because I know Springsteen is such an influential artist.
This was one of the first albums I ever got and to me it holds up really well! It also got me introduced to Spike Jones who I think directed the music video for Praise You. This album is one of my all time favorites!
This was pretty good but just didn’t click for me. I definitely enjoy the screamy hard rock vibe though.
I’m mixed on this one. On the one hand, the beats are actually really good, and in some ways it’s not cookie cutter gangster rap. But on the other hand, it is. I wish we could give half star ratings!
This was an unexpected one for me. I always thought Alice Cooper was a cookie cutter hard rocker from the 70s and didn’t really dive too deep into his works, but this album showed a lot of range and soul. The last two tracks of the album sealed it for me.
The opening track was such a jam! This is something I could definitely listen to repeatedly.
While I’m not a huge fan of gangster rap this album has great beats and features Qtip who I’ve always liked. I’m not sure that other albums by Nas live up to this one.
This was my first Adele album and wow was it powerful. Maybe it’s just where I’m at in life right now but it was hard emotionally to get through some of the tracks. This one I could definitely see myself listen to again, but only if I wanted to sob.
This album was fine. I didn’t think it was bad or good, just kinda not memorable. I wasn’t huge into this genre when I was younger and I don’t remember their songs.
So many hits on this album, and they are such classics. That said, it’s not an album I could see myself listening to over and over, something about it just doesn’t grab me as much as similar artists. It’s still an incredible album however.
This is largely considered one of the best albums of all time and it shows. So many hits on here and very re-listenable!
I can really appreciate this album and I love the songs (mostly) but it really felt repetitive to me after a while of repeating the same riffs and lyrics for 5-7 minutes. That said this album had so many hits and was really influential so I’m giving it a 4 instead of 3.
This one is a solid 4 for me. You can’t help but appreciate the musicianship of Prince and the rest of the band. But I gauge these albums with the question, would I listen to this album again/multiple times? And I would have to say no - Prince never really was my cup of tea growing up, but I definitely do appreciate this album.
This was kinda an unremarkable album to me.
Not really my type of album.
This album was so unexpected for me in a good way! I don’t recognize any of their songs on this album even though Fleetwood Mac dominated the radios for so long, and I really like that. Such range on this album. Definitely will be listening to this multiple times.
It’s clear this album influenced so many acts. Like on the first track I heard a ton of LCD Soundsystrm, even though I never really got into Eurythmics. Sweet Dreams still holds up and a lot of these songs are really catchy!
I have to bump this up due to Dan the Automator producing it. And the first two songs on here are infinitely replayable. It didn’t bump to a 5 for me though because I didn’t always enjoy the instrumental tracks and wanted more of the first two.
This album bumped up one star for the singles that are on it which pull at your heartstrings. That said, all of the songs sounded the same to me.
I love Talkie Walkie by Air. But this album just didn’t grab me.
This wasn’t bad! I’d give this 3.5. Not my genre of music really but there were some good songs on here
This is a really unique album. The question I was asking myself throughout was: has it aged well? I’m mixed on the answer. On the one hand, I really appreciate the African sounds. But on the other, if I wanted to listen to that, why not listen to an album by those artists?
I was never a big Nirvana fan but this was pretty good.
Reading about this album, it’s consistently rated as one of the best ever made. I can definitely see how good it is but the singles on here have been used in so many commercials it’s staggering.
I guess I thought I knew Sinatra before listening to this album, and went into it expecting more of that. What I got instead was a wonderfully melancholy, introspective and emotional album. Reading about this album it is considered one of the first concept albums, and I concur with that. I would love to hear this album performed in its entirety.
Gave an extra star due to the Sledgehammer song. This album just wasn’t for me.
I just love Elvis Costello’s voice and style.
There’s nothing I can say about this album that hasn’t been said already.
Another Beatles album, another 5 stars.
She was taken too soon from us. To me, Cry Baby is the stand out on this album.
This album just doesn’t stop! One of the best live albums ever.
This was a really unique album. A lot of different genres on it and almost every song was really catchy.
Wow! Never heard of this band before but I can hear future bands in their songs that I love that they certainly influenced. Standout on this album for me is Sailors Life.
So many great songs on this album. Could you even call this Punk?
Concept album + dynamic genres across the album and some really good themes and composition means 5 stars from me!
One of my first albums. I really attribute it to getting me into classic rock. Love it!
This album makes me want to learn Spanish.
What a fun album. It’s clear this band is extremely tight.
I really enjoyed how jam-y these songs were, like Stay With Me and Memphis, Tennessee. And Rod’s voice just fits so perfectly. I almost couldn’t believe these guys were British.
OG Shoegaze. This is a mood.
I had never really heard these guys before listening to this album. I love how this seems like one cohesive piece.
This is a top 10, maybe even top 5, album for me. The level of compositional skill displayed is really unmatched. There’s no bad song on here for me and I could listen to this album daily and not get tired of it.
This is so far my favorite Stones album I’ve gotten. It’s a lot less polished and I quite like that.
This album is timeless. The guitar riffs, the energy!
The song The Message is a classic. But I had no idea about the range on the rest of this album. It has classic hip hop club songs and also some soulful piano tracks too!
This was such an interesting album. I actually had never listened to a Doors album all the way through before this one. What a range of styles. It definitely deserves multiple listens.
Another unexpected album! I’ve never heard of this band before but wow did I really enjoy the tunes on this album. Very jazz-fusion-y and the bass is absolutely killer.
What a sprawling album. You have to give it 5/5 for the effort that went into it, the impact and how diverse the music is and genres played.
Loved the more avant-garde nature of some of the tracks.
Hadn’t heard this album before, but I found there’s really no bad songs on here. What a blast!
One of the greatest live albums ever.
This is a top 25, maybe top 10 album for me. It’s so ahead of its time!
What an interesting album. I especially liked the writing and the voice of the singer
This was excellent! I really liked the grooves.
Loved the bass on this one
So many classics on this album
This album has non stop energy from start to finish
This 1001 album journey is the first time I’ve really listened to Van Morrison and I have to say, his stuff from this era is some of my favorite music of all time.
Apparently the first dream pop album recorded. It honestly sounds like it could have been produced in 2024. Love it!
One of my favorites. Someday makes me tear up.
An immortal album. I love bossa nova.
This is the album that made me stumble upon the 1001 album book! What a powerful album.
I see a live jazz album from the 50s, I rate 5 stars.
You can hear so many modern bands that have been influenced by this album.
I can hear so many of the weird rock bands that I like in this album.
The music itself is really fascinating, but after reading that he died 2 days after release, and was recorded knowing that Bowie has cancer…wow. Not many pieces of art could say to have that sort of significance.
I’m not sure if it’s my favorite Radiohead album, but it’s up there
I am more of a fan of 90s and early 2000s hip hop, but this one was surprisingly good. This album is cohesive and extremely well produced.
It would be a 5 for just the eponymous song. But the rest of the album I think also stands the test of time.
I listened to the entire 2.5 hour remaster of this album, never having heard anything by them before except I Wanna Destroy You. I could hear so many artists that were inspired by them in this album and it was such a treat. Love the bass lines.
This is definitely not the Queen I know from their massive hits. And I like that.
All I could hear when listening to this album were how many artists were ripped off in creating it.
This is one of my desert island albums.
I can see why this album is in the Library of Congress.
Often imitated but never duplicated.
They don’t make music like this anymore.
This is a one of a kind album. I’m not really into gangster rap, and this is one of those “anti-gangster rap” rap albums that I love.
The song As Bold as Love is just one of the best.
What a debut album. I hadn’t really given this album a listen before and was so surprised, in a good way.
Where has this been all my life! What an enjoyable experience, especially the latter half. Atmospheric, emotional, catchy.
Another easy 5 for me. This album itself is cohesive and touches on so many different topics.
So many classics. Love Credence.
I see Brazilian jazz, I rate 5 stars.
An all time classic. Her cover of the Sam Cooke song was the best way to end this album.
Diet Coldplay, and I don’t even like Coldplay.
I can hear so many influenced artists in this album. Love the post punk and electronic expression.
I just love jazz that has Latin influences.
Wow. How have I missed this album all my life. It’s soulful, angry, bitter and full of love and care. This is now on my list of desert island albums.
The 90s were a fantastic time.
What a fun one. It’s clear they were influenced by many different genres. And I love me a big band.
Bring it on home makes this a 5/5, the rest is just gravy. Love the energy of this album.
I think the best Sabbath album, and it couldn’t come at a more fitting time. RIP
Before listening to this album, all I knew from it was sultans of swing. It’s such a well crafted album, and a stand out to me is water of love.
5 stars purely for the duo of Someone Great and All My Friends, but North American Scum and New York I Love You have probably been some of my most played songs since this album came out.
Apple Music says this is post punk??
This album is a force. The closing track especially.
I normally finish albums on this list. This one I just couldn’t. I’ve only had a handful of late 60/early 70s folk albums from this list and I fall asleep through the best of them.
This album blew me away. No wonder it’s inducted into the library of congress. And when you learn more about what went into the creation of this album you appreciate it more. If someone can listen to this and not let out a Woo or Yee Haw after some of these songs, I don’t want to be friends with them.
After listening to the first track I thought this would be good. It wasn’t.
What a fantastic composition. I don’t think I liked smashing pumpkins when I was younger as much, but I really feel this album has aged well.
Green eyes pushed this one to a 5 for me.
This album starts off with Cult of Personality, which sucks, and then just continues to suck.
Other than take me on, this album is pretty forgettable.
This album hits many of the notes I really enjoy in albums: multiple genres, occasionally in the same song, vocal harmonies, psychedelic guitar solos, thoughtful lyrics. Maybe I haven’t been exposed to much Grunge music but if this is how a lot of those albums sound I wouldn’t be complaining.
