8/10 versatile and interesting
Some great songs and some filler. 4/5
Over and Over not exactly a ripper of an opener. The Ledge picks things up but not exactly something I’d want to listen to again. It’s at least musically interesting. Think About Me is kind of just there. Not offensive, not great. Save Me A Place tries to be ambitious. Kind of see this sound later with REM. More interesting than actually good to listen to. Sara sounds like a more traditional Fleetwood Mac song, very pretty. What Makes You Think You’re The One is a rowdy Buckingham number. Not bad. Storms is pretty, another song that actually sounds like a FM track. That’s All for Everyone is fun, kind of wacky. Sounds like it was more fun to make than listen to. Not That Funny is not that good either. Abrasive. Sisters of the Moon is atmospheric, good beat. Angel has me convinced I’m Team Stevie not Team Lindsey That’s Enough For Me is a rollicking Lindsey song. A little frantic and fun. Brown Eyes is a pretty Christine song. Bit meandering. Never Make Me Cry is another pretty Christine song. Not really memorable. I Know I’m Not Wrong is another LB jam, a little more reserved and the better for it. Honey Hi is another Christine song, pretty but slight Beautiful Child is a longer Stevie song, not bad Walk A Thin Line is pretty good, layered and solid. Maybe my favorite song on this weird album. Tusk follows almost like a blend and it’s boisterous and fun Album closer Never Forget has some nice playing on it. Pleasant enough way to end the sprawling album. Was this a double LP when it was released? It has 20 songs on it. 6/10
10/10 goes from strength to strength
Well crafted but not my thing. 7/10
Rough with every song sounding identical. 1/4
Never listened to Bob Dylan before. Really captivating. 4/5
Not something I’d go back to again and again but it was pleasant enough
First ever listen to Taylor. Loved it! Such pretty singing and instrumentation
Cheery and lush
Absolutely fantastic
Expected to like this a lot more than I did
Like elevator music
Completely unlistenable
Certainly a variety
Diverse and often beautiful
Much better than I expected
Not bad but not memorable either
Second David Bowie album I’ve heard this week, he’s just not my cuppa
I know this is supposed to be a masterpiece and I really tried but it just sounds so cloying and awful. If this site had 1/2 stars I’d go even lower.
Thought this would be unlistenable, and the vocals are, but the guitar playing is intricate and interesting.
Aside from the hit singles a bit of a chore to get through
Not nearly as bad as some of the 1 star reviews will have you believe.
Steve Hogarth’s hero is mine too now. Wow.
Steve Hogarth’s hero is mine too now. Wow.
Music was 3 stars but negative 4 stars for the “singing”
As I’m listening it goes from a 3 to a 4. Just endlessly inventive and fun
Like other listeners have noted, the singing is pretty poor
Remember this being a lot better in 1987
All the haters saying Depeche Droned or whatever corny pun can pound sand this shit slaps.
Jesus enough fucking Bowie
Almost offensively bland
Not on Spotify can’t be too important, sorry nerds
Kind of dreary affair all around
So abrasive I can’t even
What a delightful surprise
I get that it’s an important record but I found it unlistenable except for the title track. Don’t mind that it’s manufactured by music scientists it just doesn’t sound good at all.
Much better than I expected
Such pretty singing. No one sings like them anymore.
Remember when this came out, loved it then and love it now. Madonna has turned into something different these days but this is really bright and fun.
First side is really mediocre. No hooks. Side two is marked improvement but not really enough to save the whole endeavor. I’d like to round up to three stars out of respect for Prince but the album really doesn’t deserve it. Prince is an interesting artist in that he has SO MANY crazy-great songs but man alive so much more middling crap.
It’s interesting rather than actually good
Oh for the love 2 stars barely
Two great songs and a lot of filler but those two songs are super great
Has its strengths but the songs sound the same after a while
Really dull
2 star cavalcade continues
That voice, that’s why his supposedly marvelous songs aren’t on the radio. It’s like a dog whistle.
The voice being the star-subtractor here
Like Beck, minus the hooks or sense of humor
The singles slap but the other songs are pretty pedestrian
Mostly boring but just quirky enough to be fun. Amazed at their popularity
All you unoriginal reviewers squawking about how BC sound like The Rolling Stones pick up your Obviously But button on the way to the next Nick Cave record
Complete nonsense
Not their best (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath) but great nonetheless.
Barely a two. Not surprised I’ve never heard of this
Taken individually the songs are more or less ok but a whole album of that is really repetitive.
The cultural appropriation posts about this were almost comical enough to make this album something but nope. Cute singer though
Had high expectations based on how much other artists that I like revere the Furs but it was kind of awful. The vocals I mean
The vocals took a full star away
