The ResidentsNever again
Never again
I have listened to some Elliott Smith songs before and tried to get into some of his albums. Really liked a few songs (Between the Bars and Say Yes from Either/Or) but never got into the albums or they never stuck with me. Therefore I was a bit skeptical about this one being on the list. I was wrong. I was lucky enough to get this album on a Friday, meaning I had the whole weekend ahead of me where I could listen to Either/Or for three days and finally give it the chance it deservers. On late Saturday something happened, and what I can say now is this album is near perfect. Not one bad song on this one and it's so hard to pick the best songs, but here I will try: Between The Bars Rose Parade Say Yes Alameda Speed Trials Angeles
First of all way too long at over 90 mins. Secondly, this is a live album which I usually don't really care about. 2/5.
Didn't get into it
An ok album, maybe I'm just too late to the party.
It was ok, didn't partucularly like this one.
I've loved it since my brother gave me the album for Christmas in 2002
Never really liked this one and always found it overrated. It's better though than I thought.
First two songs start the album in a good way and then #4 is Stairway to Heaven which is of course a classic. A really good album but 1 or 2 songs that drag it down from 5 stars to 4.
Difficult to rate this album as I have very limited knowledge and listening history of jazz music. Sounds a bit like background music or music to put on during dinner party.
It was ok. Was expecting a bit more but some really good songs on this one, Alison being the favorite.
Really good synth-pop album, good flow from the first song until the last. The Chauffeur was a "surprise" for me because I had only heard it from the Deftones cover album. The original Duran Duran version is a solid one as well.
Inconsistency is the word that first comes to mind. Some good pop/rnb songs on this one but also some songs that I wasn't bothered about. A nice discovery was Emotion, a cover version of the Gibb brothers song. All in all a pretty good album.
Probably the biggest surprise so far. Never liked Kiss but this album was a good one.
Boring
Between 1 and 2 stars so I round up to 2
Always hated The Sugarcubes but when I think about it, I've never really given them a proper listen. This album was at least much better than I thought.
This is album #28 and this is the fourth album that I have given 1 star. For the other 3 albums, although I did not like or get into them, I could still understand why they were on the list of 1001 albums to hear before you die for historical or influential reasons, but for this one I just don't get it. Rather dull and uninspiring to be honest. Did like the voice of the female singer though.
A great bunch of songs. 2 or 3 songs I would have removed which is the reason I give it a 4 but not 5.
A bit too long, was expecting more because the only song I knew before listening to the album, Waterfalls, is so good and a r&b classic
Dripping with influence
Very good and cohesive album. One of it's strenghts is how effortlessly the next song follows the previous one.
Not that bothered.
Brilliant album from start to finish
Good album, 7/10 but lowering it down to 3/5
No words needed, almost a perfect album

Pretty good album but the intro is the best intro song I can remember. 3.5/5 but goes down to 3/5.
First of all way too long at over 90 mins. Secondly, this is a live album which I usually don't really care about. 2/5.
Good but simple songwriting. Nostalgic to me which might affect the rating.
Another background music album that I don't care about or can't relate to. Strange that it's on this list in the first place.
The first 12 songs and I'm thinking...This is like a best of album. Goes downhill a little for the last 3 songs but wow, what an album. Feels like I'm 16 again.
This is probably the hardest album to rate so far. I really do like some of the songs but others I don't like that much but feel like I "should" like them. Maybe I just need to give it more time and it will all come together. The songs that I currently relate to are in no particular order: - Louvre - Green Light (of course) - Sober - Writer In The Dark This is somewhere between 3 and 4 but with time, and I will listen to this album again, I think it will be more like a 4 than a 3.
Never heard of Carole King before (?!) so this was a bit of a surprise to me. Easy listening, nice soft rock with a bit of country as well. Decent.
The first half is good but there are some songs on the second half which could easily have been left out. Way too long and too much inconsistency between discs (1 is great, 4 is just average at best). The songs that I liked the most: Dear Prudence While My Guitar Gently Weeps Happiness Is A Warm Gun I'm So Tired Blackbird I Will Mother Nature's Son
A grunge classic, some incredibly good songs and a couple that prevent this album a five star rating.
I've never got into this album so I wasn't expecting much but having listened to it three times today I can say it's alright. Better than my expectations at least. Still believe it is been better for those who were old enough to listen to it when it was released (I was 5 or 6). Californication and By The Way still my two favorite RHCP albums with this one coming in third or fourth along with Stadium Arcadium.
Incredible. Incredibly boring I mean.
Did not listen that much to this album when it came out except for the singles. Didn't really like it in the beginning now, but it grew on me. Between 3 and 4 but leaning towards 4.
All time great
Meh
Mixed opinion on this. Not sure if it's ok or just rubbish.
I liked this 50s album from the 60s
Not that impressed. Too long. Some good songs here though. Might have to give it a listen later.
Between 1 and 2
Fast Car is great but so are other songs on here as well. Good album.
What an album. Listened heavily to the singles when the came out but never gave the album a proper listening time until now. Wow. Best tracks: - The Hardest Button To Button - There's No Home For You Here - I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself - The Air Near My Fingers ...and yes, Seven Nation Army. Little Acorns is also cool.
Alright but far from good.
This might be technically good but this is a jazz album and I just find jazz boring most of the time.
Want to like this album more but I have to go with my feeling
Some good tracks here but a few not so good. Between 3 and 4 on this one.
This is 80 minutes long and didn't get all too into it. In the album's defense, there are some good tracks here and giving it more time than just 1 day will definitely make me like this album more.
Way too many songs and therefore way too long album at over 2 hours. But the good songs are really good.
