Reviews (page 10 of 14)

8/10 Un discazo, no hay con que darle

Great. First Bowie album that’s come up and I’ve been like “every song a banger”

David Bowie always offers some interesting listening.

I went in not wanting to like it, didn't like it initially, but was then won over by the songs "It Ain't Easy" and "Suffragette City."

Great album. Obviously Ziggy and Suffragette are classic but Five Years, Soul Love, Starman stuck out to me too!

Lovely album, some good hits

Very good album from an artist whose body of work is overrated

Iconic and great album.

maestralno!

Might be 5* after repeat listening

I think this one is 3 stars. I'm sure it's an artistic choice but the music is so much louder than the vocals until middle of Ziggy Stardust just randomly gets loud vocals. Actually, I think I'm dropping to 2 stars. I don't think I like it. Found out my headphones were only plugged in halfway while listening to this (I'm an idiot) Giving it another listen... Yeah, hearing it all the way in my head this time I'm thinking 4 stars for sure. Weird what the entire sound will do.

Another classic

Solid album!

Dope listen, could vibe

I get to hear this almost every week as Beth has it on our shared playlists. Great album but the utter strangeness Is unmatched

Gotta love Starman which was used in that movie with Matt Damon. Love David'd style in general, maybe not necessarily the whole album

All around great album. Enjoyed every song through, the lyrics were meaningful the melodies were unique and I really enjoyed it. I've never really listened to David Bowie before and this was a perfect first impression

Classic!

It my personal favourite Bowie album but an artistic statement at the time.

Did I absolutely love it, no. Does it deserve a high rating because it is to the point, and a true classic, yes.

had some bangers, overall pretty dang good

i cant listen to this and not think of rocky horror picture show....sorry not sorry.....

I think I've called you shite before. I'm sorry man! This was actually ok

I mean what can I say? This may be Bowie at his best, with much more consistency than some of his other albums (no laughing gnome here). I don't think the whole album shines but there's nothing bad. An amazing artist but the wealth of releases meant you're often comparing some of his more "okay" songs to 30 better ones.

Pretty good rock album. A few good classics.

Luv me Ziggy dawg

When I think of early David Bowie I am always in awe of how brave someone has to be to get up on a stage and do this type of music and theatrics. Amazing really

Mui tranquilito k lo podrias escuchas metido de tripis la vd. Entiendo porque esta en esta lista, que buen artista. Punto macarrilla como él mismo. 7/10

I feel really bad for anyone who gets this album as their first David Bowie on here. Imagine staring with peak like this and then never quite hitting it for the plethora of other David Bowie albums. Ok, I’ll say this now. I don’t personally consider this one of my favorite albums of all time. It doesn’t quite hit that “5-star” caliber for me that some others had. Is this my favorite Bowie album? Hard to say, this was only my fourth from him on here and I still have plenty to go. But it is for sure a contender and I can see why it is considered a classic. Honestly, if I can’t rate the album 5 stars, I can rate some of the songs 5 stars. The whole “bisexual alien rockstar saves the Earth from the apocalypse” puts a really creative backdrop for the album. I know it’s been said a hundred times, but the bookends songs, Five Years and Rock n’ Roll Suicide are excellent. Starman is one of Bowie’s absolute best songs, with Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City not fear behind. If some of the lesser songs were a little tighter (in my opinion), I would have definitely put this up on my summary. But this is the magnum opus for Bowie so far for me. It’ll be interesting to see if it gets topped. Favorite track: Starman Other hits: Ziggurat Stardust, Suffragette City, Rock n’ Roll Suicide, Five Years

Undoubtedly iconic in every way. Even though a centrepiece, I am not particularly crazy about the It Ain’t Easy cover or Mooanage Daydream. The latter has got a great feeling to it and was probably an amazing live show staple, but I am slightly underwhelmed from a songwriting perspective given Bowie’s generational talent. It will probably grow on me… However, that’s nitpicking and the highs of this record (basically every other song), elevate this project to the top of Bowie’s - and mostly everyone else’s - oeuvre.

Ashamed to say that was my first time giving this album a full listen This was very good. The opening and ending tracks were great, Starman is a certified banger, and some of the guitar work on this is really good, especially at the end of Moonage Daydream Perhaps overrated, especially with the "greatest album of all time" remarks, but still very good

We had this album poster in our living room at my old house. Would you BELIEVE i haven’t listened to this album full way through ever… i know shoot me. To be honest in my head i don’t really like bowie… BUT i take it back! You CANNOT argue with this album, it’s actually amazing (no shit sherlock)! I don’t know if i can pick a top 3 at the moment as i think it requires more listens but i love rock n roll suicide!

First time ever listening to this and I wasn’t disappointed. Great album overall with consistent quality across the tracks.

Starman

This was very good.

This album is fantastic, it is full of bangers and with some of the bests David Bowie's songs. It is really catchy, creative and consistent. My only problem with this album is that some songs don't really stick to me as the others, for example, Lady Stardust, but even the lowest points in this record are still really good.

our second bowie

Great stuff altogether. Five Years is a masterpiece. However, for me it kind of loses slight interest by the end. 4.5*

Star man is an iconic song but otherwise the album felt a little boring to me. It might be because David Bowie has a signature style that is amazing when you see it live but loses some of its charm when you simply listen to the music without his stage presence. HOWEVER, the bass was lovely throughout which is always a plus. It is an objectively good album, just not for me.

One of the best Bowie albums, really enjoyed listening to this again

Great record

An all time favourite for me! Bowie is electrifying… and the DRUMS! THE DRUMS!1!1!!1!1!

Belle découverte à réécouter. Fin du fmd et open 35 Ave Hélène

A very good album. I can begin to appreciate, particularly after watching the series on 1971 quite how innovative and subversive Bowie was then and to a degree still is. Music has to a degree been tamed, maybe it’s all been said or has become more diffuse. This stands as one of peaks of a different vision music as a social statement and movement not just personal reflection.

Here's the thing...I didn't love this. But I couldn't help but really be drawn in by its concept and really far out lyrics. Musically the middling songs are just middling. But when the hits hit, it's a rocker. Suffragette City is a banger that's still stuck on the brain.

Did this put david bowie on the map?

Bowie is not my favorite but this is a great album

I'm liking the tone of the album, the overdriven guitar, orchestral and grand melodies, and ambiance that adds to the overall theme. Bowie's voice also does a wonderful job at sounding out of this world and spacy itself. Seems like he was able to find his sound a bit between Hunky Dory and this album as this has a more refined sound and actual substance. There are times where the excessive use of reverb/ delay/ chorus/ etc. become a bit distracting.

Great album

I've not listened but Emily used to listen to it loads and rates it.

I kinda liked it overall. Fits better as a full concept album than individual songs.

I did 1 listen through. It has hits for sure but i wasn’t grooving as much i expected. Expectations might have been too high.

Really great and powerful sounding album. Lots of great songs.

I love the 60’s-70’s space race aesthetic so much!

Solid album. Not quite memorable enough start to finish to earn the full 5 stars.

I have always been put off by the Bowie love as someone who was not around when he was at his peak and knew him more as a personality. That being said this album is worthy of the hype. I can't give it 5 but it's a 4.25/5 for me.

The 1001 list editor wrote a biography of David Bowie and in his enthusiasm allowed far too many Bowie albums on the list. This one definitely belongs however: Bowie is at the top of his game with "Starman," "Ziggy Stardust," and "Suffragette City." These are well known, stand-out tracks, and a few others are immediately accessible including "Soul Love," "Five Years," and "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide." On the first go-round at least, I found some tracks were weak and forgettable. "Ziggy Stardust" is so tight and self-contained, it makes most of the other songs that make up this glam rock story arc feel superfluous. Not a Bowie fan boy, but some great songs are stored here.

Creative and interesting, happy to see this as my first david bowie album in this app

Destaques - Hang on to Yourself - Starman - Rock 'n' Roll Suicide - Five Years

Wonderful album! Filled with Bowie hits like "Ziggy Stardust" and "Suffragette City", along with great songs like "Five Years", and "Soul Love". Always puts me in a good mood. 4/5

Maybe a concept album, or an album with a concept written after it was recorded- doesn’t really matter. It’s a unique album that builds as it moves from track to track. suffragette city is the star track - chef’s kiss of a song. Rock n roll suicide is so musical theater, it gives off the rock opera vibe!

Amazing album, probably the best by bowie.

I think this is the only Bowie album without any songs I'd prefer to skip.

Another good Bowie album. Mostly upbeat tracks and a fun short listen

you already know icl this is not probably not even top 3 bowie for me anymore, low, station to station and blackstar are just far more interesting for me, but this definitely has a great replay value and is just rlly solid. not necessarily as amazing as some claim it to be tho

This is a mad space age concept album with some of Bowie’s best songwriting on it (Starman, Rock & Roll Suicide). What more can be said?!

Had to give this one 4 just cause the singing style isn't a fave/not as polished as expected. The writing on this album is great though! Every track has a unique groove and some interesting instrumentals. The percussion in Soul Love punctuated by the brass and the sax interludes, the piano in Moonage Daydream holding everything down plus the lovely winds and brass interlude with the long, hypnotic guitar finish of the song. In Starman it's the stretching vocals that stand out while in Rock and Roll Suicide the guitar and brass ensemble really brings it all together. Would listen again, good writing.

Funny how not random true-random feels. Got Bowie's Heroes yesterday, and today Ziggy Stardust. Anyways, went into this expecting a very easy 5/5 and while it's still a classic, surprised at myself for not liking it quite as much as I was expecting. Still a fantastic album with no bad songs, but mostly I just enjoy the big hits like Moonage Daydream, Ziggy Stardust, and Suffragette City. But this album has the classic Bowie acoustic guitar sound, so it's great.

bowie do be doin bowie things

Great album, the Bowie/Ronson collaboration resulted in Bowie's best output.

Heard it before. Quite enjoyable. Moved pretty quickly despite not being super familiar with some songs. A Solid 7

I love David Bowie but I've never fully understood why this album is so lauded. I do like it so I don't want to sound like a contrarian or anything, but I think he's got plenty of more creative and interesting albums (Low, Station To Station, Blackstar etc). Some of the deeper tracks (like Soul Love and Star) aren't as strong as the more well-known ones, for me anyway. That keeps it from being top tier I think part of it is his vocals as well. After this, he adopted a lower style compared to the more shrill and kind of nasally style that he uses on here. I much prefer how he sounds from Young Americans onwards Just so I'm not shitting on a beloved album for the entire review - the big hitters are fully deserving of the praise. Ziggy Stardust and Starman are huge anthems and Suffragette City is a banger. Mick Ronson's slick guitar playing is absolutely stellar as well. There's also signature Bowie weirdness to be found, like the pennywhistle around 2 minutes into Moonage Daydream Something has just never fully clicked with me. Half of the album is perfect, the other half is just decent. It definitely belongs on the list though Highlights: Suffragette City, Ziggy Stardust, Starman

This is where Bowie really starts for me personally. I don't enjoy most of his earlier stuff nearly as much. This album also had a very clear and huge impact on music as we know it now Standouts Starman Ziggy Stardust Suffgagette City 4/5

I always appreciate getting Bowie albums because he always makes them interesting. Even if there are some misses, it's never boring. Favorites: Soul Love, Starman, Ziggy Stardust Least favorites: Five Years,

A great album.

shame they fell, would've loved to hear more ziggy

Pretty standard Bowie affair, a lot of great songs and a couple that are only ok.

Det var rigtigt godt det her album kunne godt finde på at høre det igen han er meget god ham bowie

There’s a star man waiting in the sky 🌵

al eens eerder geluisterd, absoluut banger album, vooral starman

Hang on to Yourself top shit

Fourth Bowie album for me. I think it's fair to say that I'm not a super huge fan of the fella outside of 3-4 songs per album. I'd put this one on par with 'Station To Station'.

Well. I am not a David Bowie fan. And everytime I see one of his albums pop up, they fill me with dread. This is my 5th Bowie album This is the first one that I've actually enjoyed! My usual complaint is I don't like his voice But he actually sang on this one and it wasnt bad at all. The songs were much better too Wouldn't go as far as calling myself a fan now, but this was an enjoyable album. I see why this one is one of his best 4 ⭐️

I love this Bowie album, especially compared to the last one we had. I had several of these songs saved before. Very much what comes to mind whenever I think of Bowie. Might not be your guys’ style, but I thoroughly enjoyed this

Good, great arrangements and singing, but dusty sound. Particularly the drums sound strange, somewhat muffled. Hardly surprising fifty years after its release, but still. ****

what a visionary

liked songs: Five Years, Starman, It Ain't Easy, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City Excellent. 4.5

Very good

it's a masterfully engineered album that still sounds electrifying to this day, there's later bowie works that showcase his eccentricity more but this was the beginning for sure

Surprisingly only my second Bowie album - my first was Blackstar. Weird right? Lotta heat on this one and the listen, even ignoring the conceptual prowess, was fucking enjoyable and impactful. I think this guy might have a big career ahead of him not sure why just a feeling.

I listened to a lot of these songs on repeat as a child and a teenager and they still are very very good to me. I will love them because i love them and they are fun and i like them. I remember i had a david bowie best hits album wahtever it was called and it had a couple songs off of here that made me listen to the album but i only really listened to the ones that were on the greatest hits album anyway cause i liked those exponentially more. Not my favorite david bowie, but it's pretty good. I enjoy. I want crab :)

Definitely unique. A few great songs and a lot of good ones.

So good.

Icon. Legend. RIP

The album has been showered with praise time and time again. I like David Bowie's music. I also think this album is very good. Somehow I feel a bit strange with it, but that seems to be the case with many David Bowie albums. 4/5

One of his best

Mange bangere! Rigtig fed plade!

I love David Bowie, his song Starman was made popular in meme culture and that's where I learned more about him. It's a decent album

Masterpiece. Definetely Bowie's best album. 4,5/5 Favorite song: Starman

The individual songs on their own were excellent. As a concept album that tells a story, it fell apart for me. I wish Apple Music or any music streaming service would have a text file with the original album liner notes to accompany albums like these.

1/31/25. One of Bowie's classics, will always be able to revisit and replay this one. Fun concept album.

I don't like his voice, although the album gets +1 point for being a rock opera.

Fun, Weird, Iconic.

I preferred black star

For an album that has so many great individual songs (in fact are there many albums with as many), I can’t explain why, but I personally find listening to the album as a whole has a kind of mood killing vibe. For that reason I don’t revisit it like I do Hunky Dory which I find way more uplifting. Gonna have to be a 4* for that reason.

Beautiful album with some hits on it. Love the energy. The whole thing feels like walking through some drug fueled paradise.

OHOHOHOHO

Very Bowie; a bit decadent, laid back, rock

Obviously a classic but I wasn't as blown away as I expected to be.

This is my favorite of his that I've listened to.

Classic. Even though it's the first time I've listened to it all the way through. We've all heard it thanks the James Gunn.

Definitely the best of the Bowie albums on this list. Some great rock and roll. Guitar parts are excellent.

fav tracks- moonage daydream lady stardust i had never listened to this album, or any bowie song, in full before. i dont think i wouldve liked it had i done so earlier, because of how associated these tracks have become with advertisements (mostly for movie trailers). i liked it now because i got to approach it from a blank slate.

Better than I first thought! I understand why people were really crazy about this in the day. Quite the lyricist and so passionate

El álbum empieza increíble y después cae en un bache del que, salvo pinceladas, le cuesta salir.

Moonage Daydream was awesome. Unexpected solid album

I'd have a couple of bad Bowie experiences and a couple of middling to good experiences while working through this site. This album is definitely the best one yet, not quite % stars but eminently listenable.

Bra. Mer lågmält än jag väntat mig. Kan gärna stå på som bakgrundsmusik i framtiden.

There have a couple people in my life who have resolved to this being amongst the few greatest albums in history and I've always felt bad when I've had to admit out loud that it doesn't sit that highly for me.

Yeah, it’s Bowie, it’s great. There’s not much that hasn’t been said about this, but I will note that I particularly liked his vocals, and that it felt surprisingly short.

Excellent album - creative, catchy, and energetic. I think I prefer Bowie's less space-y stuff, so I'll go with 4 stars here.

My anniversary! And this sums up quite nicely my one year of AYMHBYD. Like, okay, yeah, I get it. Important album, nice album even. Within the western, English music history. Is it the... 5th Bowie I've had? I've grown bored. Why am I doing this?

A solid 4.5. Had heard all the songs many times before, but this time listened through a decent set of headphones. Sounded great.

The album isn't as repetitive as most of the others I've listened to, and several recognizable songs help improve the rating.

It's a good record, and I have always loved Starman, but I do think its a bit overrated. A lot of tracks give a very similar energy, which isn't necessarily bad, but for a 5 star album I think it needs some more transcendent high points. Fave Tracks: Soul Love, Starman, Lady Stardust, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City 4.2/5

It’s got this glittery, spacey vibe that’s so dramatic but somehow still grounded. Kind of like if T. Rex went all-in on a sci-fi storyline. The guitars are sharp, the vocals full of swagger. It’s fun, a little weird, and totally unforgettable

the dawn of wonderfully weird Bowie with the Spiders

A fun album with a couple of great songs!

I prefer Blackstar over this, which might be the most unpopular opinion of all time

Classic album, classic cover, classic songs. Right out of the gates with "Five Years", an underrated song, that I've heard covered by others, and it's a great tone setter to the album. Then you roll into "Moonage Daydream", "Starman", "Ziggy Stardust" and one of my all-time favorites "Suffragette City". Even the lesser known tracks are solid. "It Ain't Easy" could very easily be a new song from an act today, it holds up well. "Lady Stardust" is catchy and instantly knowable. "Hang On To Yourself" sounds like a T.Rex track or even a Dandy Warhols track from 2001. "Rock n' Roll Suicide" is a great way to cap an excellent album. It's hard to say anything negative, there are no irritating or weak tracks. It's a solid album with great songs & delivery. Definitely Top 1001.

Clearly well reviewed and loved. It’s a great concept album and has some excellent songs (suffragette city, star man, ziggy stardust). I’ve just never been gripped by it, feels too paint by numbers. But maybe if I’d heard this in 1972 I’d feel different. 4/5

I liked it! Now I want to wiki this album.

This album was a lot of fun to listen to. I really liked that the simple acoustic rhythm guitar had a part in every song

enjoyed this one, bit mad in places but was kind of expecting that. Few big hits on here but overall liked the songs I'd not heard before and was glad I listened overall

Great musician

Classic, pleasantly

An absolute classic but it's never been my favourite Bowie era or sound. Much prefer Hunky Dory, Low and maybe one or two others

There once was a man named Bowie Who was partial to a bit of go-ey He liked ‘em young But kept it fun, Don’t worry you’re too old, Zoe

Majestic

y'all already KNOW how I feel about David Bowie!, hardly a miss on this album, a few dull ish points but nothing that missed.

Great set of songs. Recognize one from Guardians of the Galaxy. It Ain't That Easy is a pretty typical blues-based classic rock song. Kinda surprising for Bowie.

A Rock and Roll Classic that transcends rock n roll into new avenues and stratospheres.

Love the guitar solos.

Хайп

I wanted to enjoy this album more as the songs are good, but some of the mixes are just bad. Vocals get lost in the rest of the music sometimes and really detracts from the overall quality of this album. Still really good though. 4/5

Not as even as I remembered carried on the back of 5-6 songs but damn they're good

Really pretty good. Songs sound different from each other. Several hits. Overall difficult to categorize. Much respect. Not sure how often I'd come back to the whole album though

There is a reason that so many current musicians and artists (especially those who felt marginalized by mainstream society) point to the act of watching David Bowie perform "Starman" as Ziggy Stardust on the Top of the Pops show in 1972. People saw and heard themselves validated for the first time by this bold, brash artist, seemingly unafraid of the consequences of going against the norm. And "Starman" is a messianic song, an ode to being seen and affirmed by the other. The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spider from Mars is a concept album, a rock opera, and a classic testament to music's ability to lift you. Recorded after Bowie's first trip to the US, it begins and ends with show-tune anthems and, within the bookends, contains ballads, rockers, and hints of country honky tonks. It stands the test of time and never fails to lift the listener to the stars. Let all the children boogie.

The only Bowie album I have ever listened to, I remember my Gran buying me this for Christmas when I was 14 😭

Not bad, not great

really catchy and enjoyable album. Forgot to rate it at first, but i did like it.

Top 3: 1. Five Years 2. Soul Love 3. Hang on to Yourself Overall: 79/100, it’s a classic but there are some skips in here.

It’s old but good.

Loved it. A lot more rock and roll than I thought it’d be.

Very enjoyable album but bowie’s voice despite being as unique as it is falls short at certain times with his vocals going out of tune every now and then. Solid 4/5.

7.5/10 This was good, but not fully great. Third Bowie album as part of this, and I am starting to come to the heretical conclusion that he might be overrated as an album artist. A good pile of total bangers and some genuine classics in here, but as an album it didn’t totally blow me away. Glam rock clearly influenced by the American stuff of the time. Best: Ziggy Stardust

David Bowie is great and so is this album. I have heard some songs from Bowie before (who hasn't?) but this was the first time i really listened to the songs and a whole album back to front like this and it was a great ride. Leaning back and listening to this album cured an otherwise bad day.

Yet another banger! I remember growing up my mom loved David Bowie but never understood this album. I'm very happy to listen to it as an adult and make up for all of that.

“Starman” was definitely my favorite on this album and maybe the best overall David Bowie album I’ve heard so far.

Love 4/5

Great album, once again cooking dinner but couldn't help having a bit of a boogie.

DB slay

not a Bowie fan by nature, but this is real quality

classic, enjoyable, endearing. 4.5/5

Ok. I need to rethink my ratings system. So far I have been far too generous, and there isn't enough room for nuance at the top. So I'm going to adopt a new system, roughly adapted from a message I read on Reddit somewhere. 1 star: this offended me or was of such poor quality I would have commented on it if I heard it as background music in a restaurant. I could have done better myself. 2 stars: this was not a good or enjoyable album, but it could happily exist quietly in the background somewhere. 3 stars: this does nothing for me, but I could work to it. Either quite dull, or maybe an album of bad songs but with one or two ok ones. 4 stars: I might choose to listen to this again. But I'm not going to tell anyone about this. Happily would have this on rotation, and it might even have a few really good songs which I like a lot. 5 stars: I'm going to tell someone about this. This is a great album, which has 'changed' me in some way, emotionally or musically. The world would be a sadder place if this album were gone. With all this in mind, this album is a 4.

Great album!

Holy crap. This is over 50 years old and sounds fresh. How have I not listened to this before. I now understand why folks hold Bowie in such high regard. This is the third album in my project and hear this has made the project worth it.

I'm not a huge Bowie fan, but every track on this is a single. Fantastic album

What can I say that has not been said about this classic? It might be the best known work by Bowie. I don't think it's his best though. It certainly is interesting and has been obviously hugely influential, and yet when you know what he did afterwards, it does feel a bit short and empty. Bowie basically spend his whole life developing his craft as a songwriter, so it's not to say that he hasn't arrived yet. In fact, I think Bowie understood better than most people that arriving is a never ending process. This, as a step, was a significant one. Just not the one I resonated with the most, I guess.

4.5 fantastic album

The first half Does not feel like spiders from mars, however comma it does feel like a trip into space and finding the ever expanding nothingness and just being cool with it being that way. And once you reach space you realize how much you do care about the little things you experience in your day to day. The second half feels like you just came back from space, survived and started telling everyone you see that you killed god with music and lasers in space. Unfortunately however the more people you tell, the less impressive it becomes and then you end up in that same void of emptiness where you were in the beginning of the record. Feels like black country new road took some inspiration from this record

Really good, moonage daydream is a banger

Bowie is one of my favorite artists of all time. And although this album is considered by many his magnum opus, it is definitely not my favorite Bowie's work. I don't really know what it is, but the glam is really not my cup of tea. There are amazing songs on this that I love with all my heart, but there's much better work ahead and I feel like giving this one 5/5 would not be fair to albums like Station to Station, Low or Heroes. 4.5/5

Was expecting more. Good though, liked other early Bowie better.

This was great. Not a bad track on here. I wouldn’t listen to them all just randomly, definitely some. most I would only listen to again when listening to the album in full. I don’t mean that as a bad thing, the album just feels like it’s meant to be listened to as a whole.

I liked this! I knew starman already, but "hang on to yourself" is pretty great too.

Thinking of my sweet son in law who idolized Bowie. ❤️

Quite good. Prob the best glam rock (def like it more than t rex,) but Blackstar is prob my favorite Bowie

Another Bowie Banger! Lots of excellent music here. I’m enjoying ever Bowie album I get and this one is no exception. It’s zany and fun, awesome vocals, awesome production, totally wild and weird.

Certainly one of the best, with a lot of familiar songs on it. Bowie was on a roll here, and this album was a regular on our turntable.

Classic Bowie with some of his best songs

Great album

Really enjoyed this album. Five years is an amazing intro track to this album. Nothing much else to say.

Another banger

Groovy

4.4 stars rounded down.

Enjoyed it.

David Bowie at his almost best. Almost, because Low is easily his best album that I have listened to so far, and Ziggy was just a little bit underwhelming, taking into consideration his other work. Still, a really good record, easily a classic album now.

classic, also the best bowie album imo

Not my favourite Bowie album, but it's pretty damn good

Probably my favorite Bowie from beginning to end. Rock ‘n’ roll forward really good

A messianic, egotistical, androgynous alien as a metaphor for a rock star is so on the nose that it’s almost a cliche at this point, but Bowie made the connection perfectly with this album and the songs are just as strong as the ideas behind them. I think people get a little too hyped about David Bowie. Like, he’s good, but calm down. But this is an undeniably great album.

idk I feel like ppl say this is one of bowies best albums but I didn't really like it more/less than his other stuff. pretty good.

8/10 - this was better than the other David Bowie albums. I enjoyed a bunch of the songs that I had heard before and some other ones that I hadn’t.

Bowie is such a good frontman. The way he sings and the words he chooses all the listener to get a real feel for his intelligence and charisma just by hearing him. That said, this album does leave you wanting a bit more variety in tone and instrumentation.

This is a great album. Starts and ends really strong.

I’m a David bowie enjoyer ofc but not like the biggest expert ever who knows every album and song. One of those artists I think is awesome but casually so and haven’t listen to albums from back to front. So I dooooo feel like this didn’t include as many of my favorites of his and was solid but coulda had a touch more. But still epic.

I really haven't listened to much Bowie, but through this project I've realized I like him quite a bit. That said, I got Aladdin Sane last week, and that was a dog's album. awful. So I was actually nervous when this popped up today, but I shouldn't have been. I'm not sure if this is considered Bowie's magnum opus, but it should be. Magnificent writing, excellent vocals, and timeless musicality...for the most part. It starts off very strong through Starman, which is one of the best two songs on the album. It falters a bit in the middle starting with It Ain't Easy, but it ends very strong. If not Starman, Rock n Roll Suicide is the standout track of the album. Overall, I think the middle portion is a little too corny to give the entire album 5 stars, but this is a stellar album. Easy 4 stars, and another example of why we need half stars.

Favourite song so far is “it ain’t easy” - very bluesy! Same with suffragette city, classic. Overall solid album, some classics. Some songs a bit same-samey

oh it’s david bowie again! on first listen: five years omg. the crescendo! the strings!!!!! soul love is pretty groovy, somehow reminds me of the little mermaid’s kiss the girl 🫣 THAT OUTRO IN MOONAGE DAYDREAM. i really like the vibe of the album, groovy but also sentimental i think lady stardust may be one of my favourites from the album. some other faves as of right now are five years, ziggy stardust and rock ‘n’ roll suicide (i love that the last track ends on strings too 🥹🤭) overall i really like the album!! i think i’ll come to love it more over time, but for now i’ll rate it a 4 ☺️

Het fijne gitaarwerk van Mick Ronson is the icing on the cake. 8,5/10 Highlights: Five Years Starman Hang on to Yourself Ziggy Stardust Rock 'n' Roll Suicide

Good piece of art, like some songs, but not for me. I think this is amazing choice for ones who love queen kind of things

Nice album wel

This album is very legendary. Without this album there wouldn't be a lot of albums that were influenced by Ziggy. One of Bowie's greatest.

classic

Iconic album from the Starman. From the burgeoning rock-as-art Era, he tells a good story with great instrumentation. Always a fun one to come back to.

I knew a couple of the tracks and I ended up liking three: Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragate City (this one especially). The album is growing on me.

great album, one of my favorites from bowie

Enjoyed. Hadn’t heard before 8

Pretty solid concept album.

All timer. Nothing else to say

He’s the Star Man!

Truly outstanding. Had to listen twice to make sure I had it right but it’s a high 4 that I was really tempted to give a 5 to, but didn’t since that’s such rare air

4 stars

Great album.

The music is fantastic and if you can follow the story, it's just that much better. A solid listen for sure.

David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust is one of the most iconic albums of all time and certainly of his own albums. I wouldn't call this my favorite, however; but perhaps it could be considered his most consistent. This album is very solid and made of pure rock and roll. An album made of bangers, one could say. The artistry and creation of Bowie's persona allowed this album stand out the most, out of his prior albums. While I said Ziggy Stardust is pure rock and roll, I suppose it's become such a classic to me that this album reads as pure rock and roll, though I recognize that it's mostly glam rock with a few punk notes. Analyzing albums retrospectively is so interesting.

Loved it, possibly his best album

The premise of this album is undeniably whimsical and eccentric especially for the time - with Bowie drawing parallels between Ziggy and himself to create one of popular music's landmark concept albums. To me though, I've always felt that *SOME* of the music undershot Bowie's thematic target. The song 'Five Years' which crescendos into this gorgeous string piece with lyrics detailing impending doom on earth is an all-time opener. I also love the song 'Starman' which may not be nearly as ambitious musically but its optimistic premise and grand chorus always resonated with me - it's probably my favorite Bowie song period. The themes of fame and art continue through onto the magnificent 'Star' before coming to a cathartic end on the closer 'Rock 'n' Roll Suicide'. It's a conceptually dense album with plenty of gorgeously executed musical moments to gawk at and while it's nowhere near my favorite Bowie album, calling this anything other than spectacular would be a blatant lie.

An album which needs no introduction. I was introduced to Bowie by a girlfriend at time this album was released. I also went to see Ziggy Stardust tour at Bradford St George’s Hall and was blown away by him. Subsequent albums with one or two exceptions never bettered this one. 75% great tracks with one or two fillers not up to scratch. Not on my list of all time greats but a classic in general and a musical milestone. 4/5 20/5/24

Nice to hear some of his older music.

Absolute classic!

Yeah, ok fine. What do you want me to say? This album has the legacy it has for a reason.

4 - Yay! This is super duper close to a 4.5, but the tracks that don't click with me as much, I have to keep those in mind too. I love some of the tracks on here and it was nice revisiting them, as I haven't heard them in awhile.

Ziggy plays Guitar!

Good stuff, even if I can only think of the januzaj chant when I hear Starman

Better than I last remembered listening to this.

Beautiful. Classic.

Fav tracks: Five Years, Soul Love, Moonage Daydream, Starman, Suffragette City, Rock n Roll Suicide Least fav track: It ain't easy

Nice guitar solos

really liked it, ive been sleeping on david bowie

just very pleasant music

Легендо. Зыс ис стааарррменнн вейтинг ин зе скаай хи лайк ту коминг мит ас. 8/10.

Excellent stuff.

Excellent 4/5

yesyes its good but idk alberto

Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Not a massive Bowie fan but it was pretty good. Accessible and a decent listen.

Starmn

First time listening to a whole album of Bowie’s music and I really enjoyed it for the most part. Some catchy tunes, interesting lyrics, and a really fun concept. Does anybody else imagine Adam Sandler in his Wedding Singer persona when Bowie is singing the last bits of “Star”? (It just kind of sounds like the way he was performing.) No, just me. Okay.

70s space age vibes

- listened to five years twice bc i didnt pay attention the first time and so didnt really like it. second time around was much better. so 7.5/10. - soul love was nice 8/10 - moonage daydream obviously like 9/10 - starman: id never listened to it in ots entirety before so it was somehow new to me. 8/10 - everything after that went real quick but was good and probably warrants a relisten. 7.5/10 average of like 8/10 for 4/5 stars bc its not my fave and isnt perfect but is really good

I knew hearing Bowie's final album as my first full album of his was the issue when I didn't really enjoy it. This was a great listen, and I had a lot of fun with this one.

Good. Favourite tracks include starman, moonage daydream, and suffragette city. Familiar with album prior to listening today, enjoyable experience.

Messed up a trivia question because of this album

3/3 Starman

This album felt like good vibes. Like the instrumentals kinda sounded like a group of good musicians just jamming with some direction from the singer. On my first listen I really enjoyed the album. Idk why, I generally don’t vibe with this style, but it worked for me.

This was a great album. I think I need a few more listens for full aprreciation

Great! Total vibe!

super fun. will prob come back to it as a lot of the songs were very catchy. didnt get too into the lyrics on first listen

Great album by an incredible songwriter. Not my favorite of his, but still a classic.

It's nice to hear this album in its entirety, as I think I've only heard a few of the more radio-friendly hits. It's hard to imagine how this must have sounded when it first sold, but it's still an impressively unique and distinct mostly-concept album. (It's funny how almost all concept albums seem to have a few odd-man-out tunes; in this case the cover of "It Ain't Easy" is the most obvious.) This is a *much* better selection for the 1001 albums project than "Blackstar"!

Some zany stuff but a lot of good melodies and personality.

Great album! Some Bowie classics on here!

Class act from Bowie. Extremely versatile. Pushing the limits. And it was in 1972. 4.5/5.

I enjoyed pretty much all the songs except the ending of 5 years. My favourites are starman, suffragette city, and rock n roll suicide. I wouldn't normally listen to this genre on my own but I enjoys and there are pretty no skips. 4/5

Overall quite an enjoyable album. Five Years kind of dragged on at the end but other than that very strong songs. Starman is a classic for a reason, and the whole album was rather cohesive with no major issues. I feel like I would have had to pay more attention to understand the story behind the strange album title but obviously that didn't take away from the experience. Good album, 4/5.

Super creative David Bowie. Weird and rockin'. Could have been a 3 but Ziggy Stardust and Suffragette City blasted it into 4 star territory.

A classic, loved. Rockish but I’m the quirky David Bowie way

Motha fucking classic. Always a pleasure listening to this.

Starman is a classic - really enjoyed a few other songs on here (Moonage Daydream and Lady Stardust) Fun listen.

Ну да, неплохо. Но голос у него слабоватый, еле слышен. И музыка не звучит легендарно. Просто хорошо. Ожидал большего.

I’ve not gotten into Bowie much before, but I enjoyed this album. It’s a good vibe.

a truly magical album from one of the greats when he was near the top of his game. nothing bad to say about this one. highlights: “moonage daydream”, “starman”, “ziggy stardust”, “suffragette city”

Lotta greatness on this one.

Yeah. It's a great album. The best from him. But for me, Bowie is just a little too proggy. I just wouldn't choose to listen to this kind of stuff.

This album is great

not a 5 star, but 5 years is a 5 star song

Great Album. I really enjoyed all the instrumentation for all the songs. Starman and Suffragette City are both classics. Really enjoyed hearing some songs that I’ve never heard before.

What an artist! Fucking amazing, not his best album tho, that's why I'll give it a 4!

This album rips its a classic I’m already familiar

Really enjoyed this. Stand out tracks for me are Moonage Daydream, Suffragette City, Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide, and of course Starman. The intro the Ziggy Stardust is great but the rest of the song doesn’t hold up in my opinion.

Much better than the other Bowie albums. Not quite going to stretch to 5, but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

This was great! Probably the best Bowie album I've heard since Blackstar. Favourite tracks: Five Years, Soul Love, Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City.

Highlight for me was Mick Ronson guitar. His tone and licks were on point. Felt similar to Brian May but still unique in his own right.

This isn’t what I thought David Bowie sounded like but I live for it. 8/10

The hits are BANGERS that you could replay for the rest of your life but the rest of the album does kind of just blend together with a similar sound. Nothing bad at all but does it's job well. 8/10

David Bowie is weird. This album is weird as it sounds like its sometimes trying to be classic rock and then some weird shit happens and then Bowie sings a line like an alien. It also sounds like Bowie is recording his audio from a different room. “Starman” and “Suffragette City” are great, the rest are good but nothing that lives up to his other massive singles. 7/10

Very good, I like this about the same as Hunky Dory. Strong 4.5

Another one that I never listened to the whole thing, but knew a handful of tunes. There were a few that didn't sound like typical Bowie, and if you had played them for me without telling me who it was I would not be able to to identify. Quite a variety of songs
