Splendid. K. West

Favorite songs: Ziggy Stardust and Moonage Daydream

So many classics! Great album.

A really fun and wonderfull journey, that Ziggy tells us!

4.13 It's Bowie what's not to like?

Top Tracks: Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Starman, Ziggy Stardust. Start of the album is a little stronger than the second half for me, but man what an awesome album overall. Good closer in Rock'n'Roll Suicide as well.

V good

Nice space-y Bowie, with only a few songs I've heard before. Soaring choruses, far-out lyrics, and of course, letting the kids boogie.

big bucks for starman. as an album i dont think i am in

Great album. Definitely one I enjoyed listening to

It’s good; don’t get me wrong.

Mooi album, ooit gekocht vanwege Moonage daydream.

Very good!

BT: Five Years (1) Soul love (2) Starman (4) Hang on To Yourself (8) Ziggy Stardust (9)

Good. I prefer other music, though. There was nothing that made me get really involved. Can understand the appeal.

mr starman does it again!

Classic.

Solid. Has some good ones

A classsic album which showcases some of the brillance of Bowie. Hard to give it anything other than high priase

Loved it.

I could listen to this over and over again. It's one of my favorite records, and Bowie is one of my favorite artists. The story told on this record is wonderful and heartbreaking. 4.5*

AGUANTE EL PITY, AGUANTE INTOXICADOS

This absolute beast of an album opens with, 'Five Years' - an epically cathartic anthem featuring that unmistakable Bowie scream. From that bold opening, it doesn't diminish. The pace is maintained throughout, with classics ('Starman'), bangers ('It Ain't Easy') and all out rock n roll ('Suffragette City'). This record is dripping with fierce guitar hooks and now-legendary riffs ('Ziggy Stardust'); the cry of the Gibson SG heard throughout. Mick Ronson's finest moment. Not a bad one for Dave, either. Wham, bam, thank you mam.

Every song on this album is CRACKIN’!

Pretty good

Solid bob album

Ah, a total classic! Favourite track: "Ziggy Stardust"

not bad

Another classic

Classic, enjoyed

Some great classic Bowie tracks 4*

A classic album with a huge influence. Some great tunes on here too..however not my favourite Bowie album. But it was good to put this album on and try to appreciate it for what it is.

You're out of this world and we miss you, Mister Bowie. Could really have used your spirit this past year. Thanks for gifting us all these lasting pieces of you.

Mad props for the influence and legacy. Heard Blur and Supergrass all the way through, two of my fave bands. I enjoyed the music more than I thought I would, some Bowie bangers on here too. Wouldn't be in a mega rush to hear it again but scoring highly for the respect. 8/10

Good but not my jam

Definitely the best of the Bowie albums we've had so far.

Classic

Deliciously refreshing. My favorite Bowie.

love Bowie

tremenditiritillo

Great overall sound, this album has some very well known and used songs. Highly recommended for a good listen, but the first two songs may require two or more listens.

Ziggy played guitar

Those last few tracks are just amazing. I always forget how much I love this album.

I mean it’s David Bowie come on 4.5

ZIGGY PLAYYYEED GUITARRRR

I mean, Bowie... it's good...

Great easy listening, and a ton of absolute classics! I'm glad to have listened through this, and I grabbed a song for my playlist.

Classic

Just good music

Nice album! Starman is a classic and a favorite of mine, but also very nice opener and many other good songs.

Was good

UUU Boy! Never was one for David Bowie, but as of late I'm really getting into his stuff. Ziggy Stardust for me is top Bowie, but then again I haven't yet listened to his other stuff. But this album was a really cool mix of rock and weird rock. Starman, C'mon, that shit is awesome!

Great album. As usual, Bowie isn't always my cup of tea. This album has plenty of goodness going for it though, so it falls into my 4 star range.

Surprised how much I enjoyed it

Mais um grande álbum de Bowie

A classic of course

pretty good

Classssic

bowie nowhere near as space gay as i remember

Pretty good. First and last song ruled. Very cool production. Acoustic guitars sounds so sick also thr drums sound great.

Not my fave Bowie

6. jul 2026. 1.58am it was okej :D 3/5 best: ziggy stardust (shocker nostalgija podsjeca me na srednju) ii rock n roll suicide worst: five years (prva pjesma ovog projekta i IMMEDIATELY sam je mrzjela ne znam iz kojeg razloga)

starman, lady stardust, hang onto yourself

I can appreciate why this is considered one of the most influential albums in rock history, but after finally listening to it I came away more respecting its legacy than impressed by the music itself. Glam rock just doesn’t connect with anything in me. The concept is ambitious and it's easy to see how Ziggy Stardust became such an iconic character. The album's theatrical approach and blend of glam rock, storytelling and science fiction were clearly ahead of their time and I can understand why so many artists cite it as an inspiration. That said, the songs themselves didn't do much for me. Aside from a handful of memorable moments, most of the tracks felt surprisingly underwhelming and I never found myself emotionally invested in the music. I also struggled with Bowie's vocal style. While I recognize his charisma and unique personality as a performer, his voice simply isn't one that resonates with me, making it difficult to fully connect with the album. Maybe this is one of those records that's more important in the context of music history than it is enjoyable for every modern listener. I don't dislike it, but I also don't hear the revolutionary masterpiece that so many others do. I respect what it accomplished and the doors it opened for future artists, but on a purely personal level, it just didn't click with me. A historically significant album that deserves recognition for its influence, even if the music itself left me wanting more.

The less well-known tracks sound much like the pop music from that era. Post Beatles and pre-Abba. Glam rock, Bay City Rollers and such stuff which mostly isn't great. A bit surprising, I'd have expected more edgy stuff.

normal, no lo escuché completo

Would I listen again: …no I haven’t connected with Bowie thus far, not sure why.

This was alright. Can't really think of much else to say about it.

Great tunes, performances, production a bit not my bag but I respect it and yet, this whole alternate personae deal Bowie, et al went through has just never connected with me. Simply put: I just feel alienated from the enterprise, which makes sense, he is from space after all. But this character stand-in thing inserts just enough distance to the proceedings that it doesn’t emotionally resonate with me.

Hang on to yourself is pure rock, star man phenomenal as it always is. Better in context, I must say. Bowie's lyrics are absurd while staying grounded in the grit of an American night during the 1970s. Suffragette City is a banger, and reminds me that Bowie existed during the 60s which? Obviously, but not in my head he didn't.

ambivalent

I just don’t think that David Bowie is for me. Obviously the big songs are great, but every other song on this album fell flat for me. I was wholly uninterested in it, I was really ready for it to blow my mind and it didn’t at all. I get it was influential, but it just didn’t do it for me. Favorites: Starman, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City

Not my fav Bowie. The tracks on this that you find in Best Of and Essential playlists are picked out for a reason. Half a great album, half a meh album. Half marks.

#980. If I've learned only on thing from doing this, it's that David Bowie is aggressively mid. Certainly one of the most overrated artists I'm aware of. There are nine Bowie albums on here, and it really should have just been this one and Heroes. All the other ones kinda just suck. 3/5: ok

I don’t see this the same as everyone else. It’s a fine album. There’s nothing wrong with it, but Bowie’s peak was the run of Station to Station, Low, Heroes This is just a handful of good tracks and another handful of slightly less good tracks. I would never hate this album, but I must be missing why even thinks it’s *so* good

Well. Considering EVERY David Bowie album made the cut, there has to be at least one good one, right? Firstly, that is insane. I know the fellow was innovative, but for every one his records to be amongst the most important ever? Insane. Brief catalogue re-review: Blackstar was interesting, if nothing else and everything else has been pretty gruesome. Station to Station? Yeah errm CHANGE the station. Young Americans? Pile of shit. Aladdin Sane? I don't remember anything about it, besides the miserable feeling it left me with. Low? Garbaggio (Shoutout paisano Bowie haters worldwide) (disclaimer: I am not Italian). This is the one that I thought might have a chance. Ol' Ziggy needs to pull through because his British twink alter ego has come up with mostly zeroes thus far. This is really the first time that I've "got" David Bowie. Before today, my lowly intelligence could simply not comprehend the greatness appreciated by the always intellectual mainstream. This record; however, is full of life, passion, and creativity. A true space oddity. Another dismal workday brightened slightly by a reasonably decent rock record. Huzzah. 3 GENRE: Finally, a good one.

Great conceptual album. I liked it a bit less than Heroes though - preferred the instrumentation and darker undertones there. Still some classics on here and just a very listenable album. I'd go a high three stars.

Pretty good. I've never been enamoured with Bowie's performances - the songwriting is excellent but it's just not for me. I fully accept that's a me-problem though. Favourite tracks: Moonage Daydream, Starman

Conflicted here, some definetely bangers but overall a weird sloppy feel to it...

6/10 i dont like the pacing of some of his songs

Few good tracks. Bit hit and miss.

Fuck Bowie, he was a wrong un. Still, this album is better than the others I've been forced to endure so it gets an extra couple of stars...

It is very good. At some point I need to weigh in regarding replay-value, and like, I just don't see myself ever listening to this again. So instead of praise I give this respect. 3.5

It’s not really doing it for me too much

Finally, THE Bowie album. And it was just okay. It's generic classic rock, which is fine but not something that really resonated with me

I guess it was fine. I loved Hunky Dory, but this album just doesn’t do anything for me. I'm actually disappointed that I'm disappointed.

so many iconic albums i haven't heard all the way through. reminds me of how much i like this exercise! i like five years a lot also starman is a classic (enough said). how catchy are the melodies and the instrumentals being loudly mixed over the vocals which almost seem background to me - i think it suits the intentions of the album well. i like rock and roll suicide as well, the arrangement is so texturally fun and interesting throughout. don't really feel that deeply about ziggy stardust despite it being the title track / centre piece because of the lyrics. tried hard to get into it :/

Very cool. Creative. I dig.

Its still David Bowie, so its still enjoyable. However it wasn't what I would hope for from a David Bowie album on this list, and thus I was left mildly disappointed. I guess that tells you more about expectations and why you shouldn't have them than anything else.

5/10 Best songs: It Ain't Easy, Suffragette City, Rock 'N' Roll Suicide Some misses/filler; the album doesn't really flow; and David Bowie doesn't exactly have the best voice... but there are some truly outstanding songs, and I'm a sucker for a concept album. I think the album's weaknesses overtake its strengths for me, but I understand why someone might love it.

David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust I'm calling Emperor's New Clothes on this. Following the perfection of Hunky Dory, there is no way this collection of weaker songs, lighter melodies, and more cluttered arrangements hits the same heights. The big hitters of Star and Ziggy are over rated, there's filler galore in Hang on to Yourself, Lady Stardust and It Ain't Easy. Suffragette City is the only great tune. And the whole 'concept album' thing was only cobbled together to cover up a collection of stuff with no direction. Best Track - Suffragette City Worst Track - Starman (sounds like a bloody Rolf Harris song or something) 6/10

Very nice 3.5/5

Before starting this 1001 albums thing, I would discover music on my own or through recommendation, and then save that album to my library to be listened to later. This album was already on that list, so I'm glad to have the opportunity to listen to it. that being said, I wasn't extremely surprised; it just sounded like a decent David Bowie album to me. Of course he's very skilled at composition and arrangement, but this honestly was less interesting to me than the other two albums by him I've heard.

11 songs -- I like (quite a bit) the 4 songs that, to varying degrees, I've occasionally heard on the radio, over the years; the other 7 songs, though, are (to me) not as good. The best 2 (for me) are Suffragette City and Starman, followed by Ziggy Stardust and Moonage Daydream. But, as I say, the other 7 songs seem less interesting (I did go back and listen to at least parts of them again, to make sure). Hard to know how to rate this; I think it's between a 3 and a 4. I do have a vague sense of this kind of marking the end of the 60s, and noticed that Chicago Tribune Greg Kot (quoted in the Wikipedia article about the album) said something similar. So, I guess, kind of significant in the history/development of rock/pop music? But, just focusing on the music, I think I'm leaning slightly more to 3 than 4. The only song I REALLY like is Suffragette City (and some portion of that liking might just be nostalgia). Well, and Starman (which I became familiar with much later than with Suffragette City) is good, too. It's possible, of course, that if I continued to listen to the album, I'd grow to like the other 7 songs more. In that sense, I suppose, albums that come up here that I already know (the whole album) have an (unfair?) advantage - assuming I like the album, of course. ;) Anyway (!) . . . 3 stars.

I don't feel like one listen was enough to do this album justice. I mean it seems like an inspired production with some meaning behind the songs. I liked how snappy the drums are, the variety of vocal deliveries. The album has passion and charm. It didn't make me too eager to listen again so it sits around 3 stars.

i will always prefer bowie’s 76-79 era but this is fine. listened when i was 15

David Bowie is fire

157. theres a staaaarmaaaan

i thought someone else (billy something) sang starman before this point /srs

It was a good listen, but nothing too crazy for me

Not my favorite, but I didn't dislike it.

This album is of course one of the best known of all time, but David Bowie has never really done it for me. Not that this album is bad at all, it actually is pretty good, but I just don't really see the hype like most other people seem to do. 3/5

If this guy could/wanted to sing well it’d be a 4/5

I don't get why this is considered so amazing. Solid, but generic, pop rock.

This one was interesting. It's easy to see why David Bowie was as influential as he was. I often pay little attention to the lyrics, but this this time, I paid closer attention. Despite not being my favorite music from Bowie, I'm sure my opinion of this album would be higher if I had grown up around the time it came out. As it stands, I can only appreciate it for what it did.

Its good, but still not my type of music

Really liked starman, but the rest of the album felt poorly mixed and dated.

Really enjoyed this! Rich vocals and deep lyrics.

I'll start off with I'm not a Bowie fan. I know he's rock royalty, but I've just never been into glam or '70's style drug fueled rock. I'm too young to have been around for it when it first landed, and my parents were too old to get into it. The music itself is well done if a little kitschy, and the production quality is great, but I have no connection to the lyrics. And, that's the downfall for me. This album in particular just feels like an extension of music from the Rocky Horror Picture Show; another musical endeavor I appreciate for its impact but can't really connect to in a meaningful way.

obiously great but i wouldnt listen on my own accord

Most hit or miss of the Bowie albums in here so far. Moonage Daydream probably the best

Not really my style but nice

Enjoyed

Very much a classic and I get why it’s on the list, but not my favorite period of Bowie

i like

Went through the album about 3-4 times trying to see beyond my initial reaction. I like the music, the rock with the piano and synth its all very cohesive and has solid direction, it feels creative and confident. My personal barrier was the vocals and partially that this is indeed something like a rock opera which isnt my taste. Bowie has got a good voice but he can tend to sound frayed or on the edge of breaking (could be a Ziggy persona choice) which puts me off if i'm vibing with the song. I will continue to digest this album as time goes on and see deeper but right now its "just" a good rock album.

Ok so this is below par for Bowie in 70’s but it’s still got Starman and Sufferagette City.

I really tried, I listened to this like 6 times, and I really just didn't get it. I guess I appreciated the story but the musical was theatrical without being gripping. If I didn't know any better, this album would not ne memorable to me at all.

A queer icon and experimental rock, love Favourite track: Lady Stardust

I didn’t like every track, but when it’s good ((Starman, Hang onto Yourself and the final three tracks) it’s really good.

My top 3 songs of the album (off first listen) 1) It ain't easy 2) Ziggy Stardust 3) Rock n Roll Suicide Honorable Mention: Lady stardust

Fine, can't really get into David Bowie

It's Bowie so it's gonna be weird. I do like Suffragette City though. Feels like the exception to the weirdness.

Who doesn’t love David Bowie?

Interesting album that was hard to rate. Some of the songs were really good and some of them I could've skipped. For me the start of the album was hardest to get through but from Starman onwards the songs worked. I'll give this one 3.

Fav song: It Ain’t easy or starman

This was very 70s sounding. I appreciated listening to it after having heard so much about it, but I probably wouldn't listen again.

One from a long time ago. It’s patchy but the good is very good.

Superman song

I think this may be a case of "born too late." I was born in the early mid seventies, by the time I started listening to music in any real sense we were already to the Go-Go's - I think my first Bowie song was Let's Dance. Maybe there is an element of 'had to be there' to all the Gushing Bowie Reviews. I appreciate the mastery and the ability to reinvent and all of that but these just don't hit me the way that they seem to hit most folks. ZS is a great song of course, and I enjoyed a lot of the album but I can't see my way to saying it is a 'great' album. 3.8

It was a fun listen, but definitely didn't like it as much as Hunky Dory. Also didn't dislike it, but no takeaways or bangers either. Decent album overall

it was very theatrical which is not my personal favorite

Not bad, Moonage Daydream was familiar.

Like a chrome dildo. Solid.

It’s Bowie! An iconic single in starman and eclectic. I’d have to know the history to appreciate the lyrics

Hate to be this guy, but this is mid af

Great album, nothing really tops 'five years' - and it does feel like it slowly starts to lose quality towards the end. Maybe suffragette city would have been better placed as the second or third track. Either way, it was a nice re-listen

New Forms Roni Size Ingenue k.d. lang Pretenders Pretenders

My first listen of David Bowie, and quite beautiful. Though it had some tracks that I honestly can not remember 1 hour later, there are some that certainly have an unique tone, especially the first song. Probably would have loved Starman if if I was not injected it every reel I scrolled.

it was good, i just wasn’t crazy about it! certain songs definitely pulled me in and i do think i could grow to love it.

Old school rock and roll. I like the horns and instrumentation. The audio mixing was really cool 3/5

Sympa mais pas transcendant

Its good, great even, but i just dont get it that much. i feel like his voice is much better on other albums and a lot of the songs feel kinda samey. starman a classic ofc though.

Oude bekende

Several of his popular songs

Me gustó, un rock más suave. Nunca había escuchado a Bowie. Siento que tengo que escucharlo devuelta

Ordentlicher Pop.

Top Songs: Starman Ziggy Stardust

vibes. cool atmosphere.

I knew a few of the songs, but I'm sort of mixed on it all still.

Reminded me of Ann

J’aime surtout les deux premières pièces. 3,5/5

BRUH!!!!!!!!! mary kate olsen sang that suffragette song and this instantly put me in a good mood but this album is still very ok! to me. i wanted more from bowie

I liked this album better than the other bowie record. Starman is a killer track. I feel like I'm in a small crowd of being eh with Bowie's music. Ziggy Stardust's chorus is fire. The guitar tones on this record are wild. I'd probably give this album a 5/10. Just right down the middle, couple of standout tracks, but Bowie isn't for me.

Five years started with a bang and while I found the growing intensity of the singing/yelling quite annoying, I still gave it a a chance for the future. Starman was obviously a classic nostalgic song that I fully enjoyed. Album going forward started falling off for me and without Starman in the mix I was ready to give this a 2, but low 3 it shall be.

1/11 bekannt 6/10 Beste Songs: starman, five years, Rock’n’Roll suicide

3⭐️ this rating feels harsh cuz I know Bowie is so iconic and lots of folks LOVE this album, but maybe it’s one I need to listen through a few times songs I already knew: starman fave new song(s): moonage daydream, suffragette city

David Bowie isn't an artist I'd generally choose to listen to, but I enjoyed this album. I think I like his music, just his voice doesn't do it for me. Main negative for me is that the middle of the album is a bit samey, not _bad_, just not different enough that I was particularly aware of each new track. Highlights: - "Five Years", basically a poem set to music, feels powerful, love the emotion building throughout - "Moonage Daydream", lots going on here, love the layers, all just blends so seamlessly and sounds great. - "Starman", probably controversial but I'd prefer this song if it started at 00:20. Rest of it is great. Catchy if slightly repetitive. Still enjoy it though. - "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide", really like how this song builds up musically and emotionally to quite a dramatic final 30 seconds or so, love the instrumentation throughout. Not one I was super familiar with in advance but one I'd happily listen to in future. Looking forward to other Bowie entries in the list.

fun, interesting, classic david bowie best: moonage daydream

Credit where credit's due, there's genuinely nobody else who could make this album. The one-of-a-kind artist allegations are true. A common theme for the Bowie albums we've gotten is that there'll be one or two songs that absolutely blow my mind, while the rest is.... enjoyable. This is true once again for Ziggy Stardust, which is mildly disappointing because I expected so much more from a record this iconic. Still lots to love about it, but far from my fave Bowie experience to date! Standouts: Five Years • Moonage Daydream

I can see why his music is used in movies (literally only know that’s it’s played in the perks of being a wallflower)

I enjoyed it more than the Thin White Duke era but I didn't save any songs beyond Star Man.

Liked it!

Typical of an artist like Bowie - some absolutely great tracks along with some slightly stranger, more experimental ones. Enough classics to make this a 3.5 but as thats not an option i need to downgrade it.

Very good but I thought I’d like it more than I did. Heroes tops this quite firmly, found the instrumentals quite dull and basic at points. Suffragette City was my favourite track

2/3. Good album, nothing immediately stood out to me other than Five Years and Ziggy Stardust, but definitely solid overall. I think I'd benefit from knowing some of the context behind it given Bowie's penchant for aliases and characters, but a good album either way. I'll be sure to revisit this one.

1. Five Years: cool build up, nice strings (and electric guitar!) 7/10 2. Soul Love: sax solo 5/10 3. Moonage Daydream: heard before (cover), "the church of man love is such a holy place to be" very fun instrumental sections, strings, 7/10 4. Star Man: oh I've heard this one before, strings and guitar very nice, 6/10 5. It Ain't Easy: I liked the guitar 6/10 6. Lady Stardust: probably good at a concert 5/10 7. Star: beat 5/10 8. Hang on to Yourself: enjoy the guitar and bass 6/10 9. Ziggy Stardust: guitar 5/10 10. Suffragette City: noises good, guitar piano synth, repetition 7/10 11. Rock 'n' Roll Suicide: liked the build up of instruments muah 7/10 Overall: not bad I liked the instruments in most of them, not sure about his singing, I quite liked a few of them, 6/10

notable: soul love (actually sounds good vocally and the sax ☝️) weird listening to the blueprint knowing that there are pieces that are derivative that do the sound better. i wish it was better so i didnt have to give it a meh score but i do see the cultural impact behind it.

You can really tell this came out at the same time at Rocky Horror. Same vibes, same messages. It got a little repetitive in the middle, but overall good. Favorites were “suffragette city” and “hang on to yourself.”

hum ok

New experience for me. I kinda liked it

I was expecting more from an album that most people rate 5 stars. I didn't really connect with the music, and sometimes Bowie's vocals go places that make me cringe. Still a decent album though. 3/5

David Bowie is a great song writer but the background music is really weird

3-5 I liked it but didn’t really fw any song.

Seems good, quite mixed, doesn't feel revolutionary to me, but I wasn't there at the time.

i love david bowie as a human

Classic

Kooky. Some of it seemed kind of aimlessly weird for the sake of weird, but some are great. Best Song: Starman/Ziggy Stardust

Ya I thought this list would introduce me to more Bowie songs that I would like but unfortunately I guess its just not in the cards. Starman is obvs a banger but as much as I’ve heard about this album, the rest of it was a little bit of a let down. His voice is just not pleasing sometimes and combined with some weird song arrangements I was underwhelmed.

I've just never clicked with Bowie. Objectively I know his stuff is good but subjectively it just never rocks my world. Oh well.

I’ve never been a massive fan of David Bowie but I did enjoy a couple of these

Pretty fun album. Montage Daydream and and Starman really carrying it I feel

Bowie is very hit or miss for me, loved moonage daydream to Lady Stardust and Ziggy Stardust to Rock'n'Roll suicide but the rest of the songs don't do much for me.

Some good songs. Though it’s nothing special.

Multi-genre, experimental rock concept album. Moonage Daydream has nice instrumental interlude. Hang On To Yourself is punky. I did expect a bit more of this album.. Best track (other than Starman) - Moonage Daydream 3 stars

Very David Bowie!

This is the 4th Bowie album I've had. Someone please tell me what I'm missing. I don't get it. None of these have clicked; I feel like I'm supposed to dig David Bowie but I really don't. None of the 4 albums have been terrible, but I haven't been blown away by any of them, either. 3 stars.

A good record, not my favourite of his.

I just dont think I'm a Bowie fan outside of the big singles. I just dont get it.

This is probably my favorite David Bowie album thus far. I feel I am supposed to like it more than I do. I just can't get his music to click like I feel it does for others.

Good, not great

Very classic Bowie being weird and probably high.

Good album.

Bowie, an enigma and inspiration for music. This record really captures much of what I think of when I think of this man. It's eccentric, fun, improvisational, and sometimes zany. It's such a unique sound that he produces. His vocals are iconic and his cadence is uncanny. This record re-affirms my appreciation for this man and the legacy he's left behind for us.

I don’t like glam rock, but I can’t in my right mind give it below a 3 stars

Some great stuff and some absolute mediocre stuff too. Mick Robson shines.

Starman was my favorite, it's just too good and too much of a classic not to be. The difference between the classic pop and classic rock was interesting.

The famous songs are great but the album as a whole was ok.

I liked it the vibe overall it was 7/10

thoughts - can sound kinda creepy/scary sounding - don’t love the actual singing voice - sounds VERY cinematic - guitar riffs are cool current favourite songs: moonage daydream and starman

Nothing tops Suffragette City and I was ready to be wowed but this is a solid 3.5. Five Years and Soul Love are a great 1-2 opener. I can hear Tedeschi Trucks Band lifting heavily from Soul Love on their Midnight in Harlem.

It was fine, a few good songs

pretty good

THERE’S A STARMAAAAAAN favorite track: starman (duh)

It was okay

muito bom

Already heard this

Funky and fun. A little too funky at times. Several classics and great songs. Several try to hard for the storytelling component and lose the focus on being a song

Pretty good and star man is a class song. Strong 3 but probably not quite a 4. 7/10

this is better than the other record I heard. Still a child rapist. I did hear a sample Apollo 440 used (hey man), which I enjoyed.

Enjoyable, especially enjoyed Hang On To Yourself.

Legendary album that really made Bowie a star. Pitchfork: 10.0 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #40 (2023) Best Songs Five Years Starman Ziggy Stardust Suffragette City

I like the orchestral nature of a lot of these songs. Overall didn't love it and didn't hate it

soul love

rated this one a 3/5 after my first listen in 2022. got this one again as part of the 1001, so deciding i'd give it a skim: It's... not bad. It's just definitely not my thing, it's obviously a classic but that doesn't mean I have to listen to it. Stand-outs include: Moonage Daydream, Starman, and maybe Star

Ziggy Stardust is a result of a mother who couldn't stay away from the paracetamol. Not a huge Bowie fan, also not his best album. Moonage Daydream and Starman goes hard.

There are few things i know about David Bowie. I know he's in that 80s movie i will never watch unless under duress, i know he's in that Christopher Nolan movie i like, i know he had a Nazi phase that everyone decided to forget about, i know i like the Steve Zizzou soundtrack by Seu Jorge, I know a lot of people like his music and he's from England because back when i was learning my music taste as a young'n, i learned whenever a lot of people like music and i don't there's an 80% chance they're from England. I don't know why. I assume ancestral trauma? But i just want to acknowledge that all of my reviews come from an anti-british bias before i start. The first two songs, i really like compositionally but i don't like his singing. I don't think Bowie has a bad voice, i just don't like what he's doing with it. I would like them more if someone else sang them which explains seu jorge. Moonage Daydream is a cool song, the lyrics are nonsense, which I like, but that sax solo sounds like an 8th grader played it. Starman is a great Earthbound villain, not a song i like. It Ain't Easy sounds A LOT like him doing blackface and i feel like too many of the albums I've listened to so far have that in common for at least one song. Mostly the British ones. I wish it would stop. Lady Stardust sounds a lot like an Elton John song, i do like Elton John but half way through the song it starts feeling bland and played out like it should've either been shorter or he should've done something different I hate Star but i like the bridge The next few songs are OKAY And i enjoy the last one. I would give it 2 and a half stars but i can't, so 3?

Much better than the other Bowie albums on this list. Maybe the only one I might come back to

H fav song: Suffagette City H: the album was nice, it had good story telling and had a cohesive overarching sound that changed and flowed throughout the album. 6/10 Z: Surprisingly the first time I’ve listened to this album front to back, having “played” Ziggy Stardust on guitar hero a million times before. This is a production, a play, a vision only David Bowie could put together. Starts off a bit slow but picks up tremendously in the middle section of the album. Such a fun listen. 8/10 Z fav song: Suffragette City

i unfortunately do not understand why people think this is so special

I wanted to really like this one. And while there are a number of morsels - Ziggy in particular - I found the entire thing hard to reach. Maybe it was the stressful week of work in Singapore? Even on relisten this weekend I couldn't get there. Recognize its impact at the time but I don’t think I’ll be back around. 3/5

I enjoyed this.

Ziggy stardust my bung hole, thanks.

Album was lowkey mid. Wouldn’t listen to any of these songs again except starman

I've generally been finding Bowie underwhelming in this challenge. Ziggy is a great song but a lot of the others felt very forgettable.

Is it finally over? I've already listened to 1000 albums by this dude.

2.5 favs: - five years - lady stardust

It's not bad. I just never really got Bowie, and I still don't. But, I can definitely see how it would've been cool when it first came out in '72. It's just ok.

Fun album to listen to top to bottom. Found a new favorite with “It ain’t Easy”. Would have been a fun time to see him in concert.

I enjoyed most of it, I really appreciated the sound difference from everything else I know of in the 70's. Just not really my jam though

Mieux que les autres, 3

Man I really wanted to like this album, but quite frankly, I was bored. It didn't sound much different to me than the thousand other variations of Brit rock on this list. Sorry Bowie 😭

1rst half of the album is dog shit. But second half is excellent. Could be a fantastic album for me if the 1rst half wasn't so bad. The second halfs songs are more emotional in my opinion whereas the 1rst half seems almost not taken seriously

Decent album with a couple of classics, would listen again

It was weird but I kinda liked it. Knew more songs than I thought I would. Not sure I would have any desire to listen to the whole album again but I wouldn't mind it if a few songs popped up in a playlist.

A solid album, I found this one was a little more understated than the others I've heard. It felt subdued in a good way, whereas most of his other stuff felt more flamboyant or boisterous (at least to me)

One of the better Bowie albums I've heard. Good use of the piano and strong lyrics. It was good. But not great imo

I can't do this anymore

I definitely recognized a few of the songs, and of course they were good. The last two songs were the best. I don't know if it's as good as the Frampton live album, but some of the songs stood out a little better in this album.

I'm normally a huge fan of David Bowie, and I think the idea of the biography/autobiography album is rather neat. The music just isn't what I love from them though, good but not great

David Bowie is really hit and miss to me (mostly miss). Starman is excellent but the rest is mediocre at best.

Enjoyed, but nothing special 3

The highs are high and the lows are also fine. I’m not sure if I like Bowie or not yet.

Couple of good tracks

Bowie isn't my style. This album is very Bowie. Rock and roll with eccentricism thrown on top. In this case, Bowie's divergence from the rock-and-roll formula isn't making things any better. Worth a 3.

Might be a new peak for Mr Bowie. The hits here are carrying very hard — namely Starman, Moonage Daydream, and Suffragette City. In between I just struggled to really click with everything he had to offer. This album carries an undeniably unique sound, it’s just not one for me.

Decent album. Always liked Suffregate City

I don't think I've ever had as much disconnect between hating an artist's singles but enjoying the album as much as this one. Not bad

The titular song is pretty great, of course. The rest is... ok. 3/5

Standout songs: Moonage Daydream Starman Hang On To Yourself Ziggy Stardust

Trying to get into this. Recognize the importance etc. Five Years and Starman are excellent. Meh on the rest...

Better than the last Bowie album. "Starman" is a classic, the rest is okay, nothing truly worth remembering. Why is he visiting Kanye in his album cover, is he a time traveller? (sorry, I'll get my coat)

kinda of trippy, can see how this album still influences music to this day

Could not get into it, no way as good as Hunky Dory. Average

6.5/10 Highlights: Five Years Starman Rock n Roll Suicide

This wasn't as bad as I'd feared, but not as good as I had hoped ⭐⭐⭐
