The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
David Bowie
Reviews (page 8 of 14)
It’s perfect. If this one doesn’t get five stars, none of them do.
Maybe my favourite Bowie album?
Actually the K. West means that Bowie was his John the Baptist.
A top 10 rock album for me. Musically it’s a perfect cocktail of a lot of my tastes: Beatles-esque pop mixed with hard rock, psychedelic vibes, punk riffs and big drama. It’s a loose concept album about the rise and fall of a self-obsessed rock star (I think)* and the sequencing of the album has such a great emotional sweep to it. The melodies are so catchy, the hooks are big and Bowie is a hell of a performer. “Moonage Daydream” is a personal favorite and “Five Years” kills me every time. But every song is great - truly an album with no filler. *Wikipedia explains that Ziggy Stardust is an alien who becomes a self-obsessed rock star, so I was close. 👽😁
Brilliant.
Would give this six or even seven stars, just one of the greatest albums ever written. No skips
Incredible, beautiful, everything a rock album should be. Moments of youth and freedom and light and noise and possibility frozen smiling in amber. I listened to it twice in a row. It's newer now than ever, and has always been here, close. More gushing is possible. What I didn't notice before was the debt Hotel California owed to Moonage Daydream, or the echoes of Lady Stardust in Young Americans. Just perfect. Hurry up tomorrow, I want to give this five stars.
I love this album so much. Best track: Starman
Rock de Bowie. Con Starman. Vinilo.
Sólo por Starman un 5
Bloody love this.
Are there many other albums as perfect as this?
You know, Ziggy Stardust is not all that different to the album that precedes it, i.e. Hunky Dory. After all, most of the songs on both albums were recorded at the same time, the major differences being the overarching Ziggy concept/story (albeit a bit loose at times) and the mystique of the Ziggy Stardust character, which make this album more immediately accessible than Hunky Dory. That’s it…oh and Ziggy rocks a little bit harder than its predecessor. It’s an excellent album, with an immense legacy, that has stood (and continues to stand) the test of time.
A stone cold classic. No weak points at all. Pure brilliance.
He’s an alligator. He said so.

5.0
Pô, o Bowie era maravilhoso né
I think I heard a lot of the songs from this album from different concerts ("Stage", in particular). It's amazing how many great songs are on this album, and they vary so much in style, too... things like "Ziggy Stardust" and "Suffragette City." But even deeper cuts like "Starman" and "Five Years" (which really aren't that much deeper when you think about it) vary in style. People talk about the short shelf life of prog rock, but when it was in big heyday in the early 70s it was something to behold. Glam rock was the same, and T-Rex and this album in particular. The true test of an album is its "re-listenability". I listened to it, and wanted to listen to it again right away. Definitely tells you something about the addictiveness and how much those songs become earworms in your head. "Five Years" for me really sticks with me for a long time. Maybe it was because I first heard it on "Stage" and it was so intriguing, but just... man, I feel like listening to it again right now. Great, great album.
So we had a Bowie album earlier and I gave it an analytical 4. And even though, no, I have never listened to any of his albums, I was super excited to listen to this one when I saw it and the track listing. Suffragette City, Moonage Daydream, Starman, and my favorite Ziggy they're all here (channeling my inner Principal Skinner). Really getting spoiled with this list recently. Incredible album. Bowie shows some deft acoustic guitar playing (Starman, Rock N Roll Suicide) and Ronson is amazing on the electric guitar (the main riff on the title track is one of the greatest of all time). Bowie's great songwriting skills are on full display especially his lyrics (Soul Love, It Ain't Easy were some highlights for me). I will say that for a concept rock opera album, the pieces don't always connect in a linear or coherent way, but the themes are all there. And the whole effort is masterful. Every listen the album gets better and better.
This is one of the very best Bowie joints ever. It's a remarkably tight and smart album. Every track is enjoyable and engaging. Bowie as Ziggy is lightyears ahead of his time and this album stands up as a remarkable even 50 years later.
Top notch. Absolutely classics in here with Moonage Daydream being a personal favorite.
In the 6/5 club
Pretty much THE Bowie album, the man has produced a lot of great music but this is his crowning achievement. A fun concept album, definitely worth a spot on this list, lots of great hits and none of the songs really drag here. Just a wacky guy singing about space.
This is such a classic and brings me right back to my teens when I loved this kind of classic rock, especially when it was kind of experimental.
Wham bam. Rokkari vailla vertaa.
I first gave this a listen later in life, but was then unable to stop for a few weeks after. Really the epitome of what a concept album should be: diverse, high-quality songs all the way through, plenty of virtuosity in all departments, and incredibly unique.
Not great quality. Brilliant though.
Well, this should be easy. Daleko u top 3 njegova albuma. Back to the topic. Pjesme poput: Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Starman, Star, Suffragette City...ostat će vječne pjesme kao i on sam.
Driver mi je otkrio Bowiea sa Suffragette Cityem and I never looked back.
this album is insane fun. enough said.
Classic glam rock with uber catchy melodies and style
Excellent
Rating: 10/10
Bowie at his best. Great album
Absolutely the best David's album!
The great songs on this album are enough to buoy up the other stuff.
A great album. Many well known songs. There isn't a weak song on the album. I have heard the album before and will listen to it again.
I would consider this David Bowie's career-defining masterpiece. When I think of the different phases and musical styles of Bowie's career, I keep coming back to the trio of albums, Hunky Dory, Ziggy and Aladdin Sane recorded with his outstanding band, The Spiders From Mars. All these records are essential and Ziggy is up there with the classic albums of the 70's.
Top 5 fave albums of all time!!
Man i love this album so much one of my new favorites
Legendary character and inventive genius by David Bowie on full display.
Objectively? Maybe Bowie's best album. I know that's saying a lot, given his ouvre, but hear me out: many of his great albums need a specific mindset to enjoy; I wouldn't feel like I could on something like Blackstar, Low, "Heroes," Station to Station, or even Young Americans all willy nilly. The only other excellent records of his that I could are Hunky Dory and Let's Dance, and this is better than both of those. Ergo, it's his best record.
No skips.
Gut
favorites: 5 years, starman
There isn’t anything I can really say about this album that hasn’t been said. I listen to Ziggy Stardust all the time. I can listen to it all day, every day, and it still moves me. I can’t say that about very many albums. I always say I don't have a favorite album but come on, does it get any better than this? I think technically, David Bowie probably made “better” albums than Ziggy Stardust. He didn't peak here. He produced plenty of smart, musically adventurous albums in the years that followed. But. This. Is. The. Album. This is the one. Of all of his works, I feel this is the most perfectly realized work. It's absolutely his most accessible album, which doesn’t sacrifice his art one bit. Front to back, every song is perfectly crafted and perfectly placed. There is no filler and there is no chaff. The concept aspect of the album is subtle but clever, apparently devised after many of the songs had already been written. You don’t need to be aware of it to enjoy the songs, which are all exceptional on their own. But if you consider the songs as a narrative, it’s even more enjoyable. Musically, the songs are gorgeously arranged, a joy to listen to. The songs range from dreamy and soulful to glammy and sexy without skipping a note. Mick Ronson’s guitar and string arrangements are masterful. “Suffragette City” and “Ziggy Stardust” are the classic rock mainstays, but it’s the deep tracks that give this album its substance. Fave Songs (all songs, ranked most to least favorite): Rock 'n' Roll Suicide, Moonage Daydream, Five Years, Starman, Soul Love, Suffragette City, Lady Stardust, Ziggy Stardust, Star, Hang on to Yourself, It Ain't Easy
Great album. Highlights include the trippy Moonage Daydream, the joyful Starman, Ziggy Stardust, the raucous Suffragette City and the emotional Rock 'n' Roll Suicide.
fuck yeah, man. i don't think i've ever sat down and listened to this whole album all the way through. obviously i'd heard the big tracks, but definitely not some of the others. it's hard to overstate the admiration i have for the man's talent. he truly never got old, even when he was making music i didn't much care for.
This was actually a strong album from start to finish. Lots of great songs. 9/10.
I am really loving the chance to visit these Bowie albums in their entirety. I can't believe how great they are. I love so many of his songs, but these albums are spectacular. This one might have the best "closing act" I've ever heard: Ziggy into Suffragette City and then finishes with Rock n Roll Suicide. Just awesome!
Was a bit hesitant about rating it a 5, I mean, it’s not my favorite Bowie but good damn it is a stone cold classic!
A true classic, timeless, innovative and still relevant. Defined this era for Bowie and the yardstick to measure his other works by. Musically diverse and full of hits and hidden gems. Top tracks: Suffragette City, Ziggy Stardust, Star, Starman
22nd October 2021 Listened on my phone while working from home on Friday. Just magic. Bowie is transformative and transportative (if that's a word).
Perfection
Already knew this well. Not much more to say than this is an unequivocal classic. Obvious five stars.
This is Bowie at his best. It's not only my favourite Bowie album but also my favourite album overall. (OK before we're done with 1001 I might say that about another album or two but no more.) Bowie wrote an excellent batch of songs. This album is all about the vocals. Bowie's ability to sing sets this album apart from the pack. Five Years is an amazing song and a beast vocally. I like how the different vocal tracks talk to each other. Soul Love has Bowie doing a sax solo. I think he played sax on the Serious Moonlight tour but I can't remember which song. Since Rick Wakeman checked out of this album, Ronson was able to show his stuff and he shines - particularly his solos at the end of Moonage Daydream. He really knows how to make a raunchy sound and make the notes hang until almost distorted. Many albums with a string side 1 start tailing off by the middle of side 2? Not this bad boy. The best songs might be the last three on Side 2. If we didn't know better we might think that verse one and verse two of Ziggy Stardust were sung by two different singers. He doesn't change key or anything; he just sings like two different singers. Two different and excellent singers. A version of this song with the vocals isolated is easy to find on the internet. Apparently Bowie laid these lyrics down in one take. In the fade of R&R Suicide it's clever how the lead vocals sing "You're not alone" while the back up vocals sing "Wonderful' and then the lead vocals finally come around and also sing "Wonderful" What an ending to a fabulous album.
I don’t know what to say about this LP that already hasn’t been said. One of the things I just read was that most of the songs were written/recorded at the same time as Hunky Dory, which makes sense because side 1 sounds like it could have come from Hunky Dory and the bookends of the side 2 power chord trio (Hang on to Yourself >Suffragette City) sound a lot like to Queen Bitch, from HD. Ziggy Stardust always seemed like a stepping stone from his more acoustic, piano-based phase to a more electric one. The presence of Mick Ronson is front and center, as is the absence of Rick Wakeman. I think I still prefer HD but this is pretty great too.
This one is so familiar and so good that I didn’t have to listen to it in order to rate it, but I played it anyways. Consistently excellent throughout, with no filler. One of the all time greatest albums IMO
I should read the lyric more.
I do love a concept album and this one delivers on so many levels. The more I read about Bowie the more interesting the music becomes. Only listened to this a handful of times before but will be listening to more often now
Amazing album. Legendary Bowie.
Not a bad song on there. Not my favourite Bowie but still incredible
Still and always.
Obviously classic Bowie. Top 3 Bowie album for me. 9-10/10 1. Rock 'n' Roll Suicide 2. Starman 3. Star
I’ll need to give this one another listen. I was reading at the same time.
First track kicks ass. Wam bam thank you ma’am
This is a masterpice from bowie, one of the most iconic albums in history, this album is perfect. 5/5
My favourite Bowie album! (At least so far) Just an awesome LP of songs from start to finish. The album has a biggest vibe to it and Bowie is at the peak of his powers
Love this album.
Brilliant. Just brilliant.
One of my all time favourite album!
one of my favorite albums ever. the thematic experience and overall musical quality make this a must listen for anyone who truly appreciates music
Ziggy is out of this world
If this isn’t a five star album then I don’t know what is
Didn't think I was a big Bowie fan. I want to give this album a 4, just because of Bowie, but after listening to it, I totally see why it's so great. I listened to it twice, because I couldn't believe my ears. It's really that great.
5.0 + In my top 10.
Classic glam rock. Great album
David Bowie int it
Great music
Transformative.
Bowie at his most accessible. This is a great rock record! "Starman" and "Ziggy Stardust" are karaoke staples. Even the B sides were great. Fave track - "Suffragette City" this time around, I think, but "Five Years" and "Moonage Daydream" were contenders too!
I mean its one of Bowie's best.
Perfect. I love this album so much. A masterpiece.
cool! I think I know most of this album anyway. I might even have it somewhere. five years: I guess i've listened to the Seu Jorge version, but actually this (remastered 2012 version) is much better! - but maybe a little slow in the middle. soul love: moonage daydream: I like this, but the middle horn-y bit is a bit annoying. starman: great it ain't easy: perhaps a bit weaker than some others. Lady Stardust: good Star: good Hang On to Yourself: chugg chug Ziggy Stardust: Obviously pretty amazing. Suffragette City: quite like it Rock 'n' Roll Suicide: very much like it The tracks are all a bit more jazz-y than I remember. I went for 5, but tempted by 4.
Extravagant, theatrical, melodic, amazing. One of the greatest albums I've heard, love it!
Five Years/Starman/Ziggy Stardust
SO GOOD
My favorite David Bowie album Not a single skip
5 Stars
Really great. Five Years is one of the best songs ever
I FORGOT TO DSVE WHAT I HAD SAID IM GNNA DIE. You were really liked opeining tho. Not doing it for this one fuck that Really good album i love it sm Final Thoughts: 5 out of 5
I tend to prefer Bowie’s weirder late 70s stuff, but this album is undeniable
1. 5 yrs - kinda the wall Roger Waters vibe 2. idk 3. viibee slightly lz but its really cool 4. ok ive just listened to intro and i love it 5.bangeer 6. gimme soulmate to listen to that drinking wine 7. stimmdancee 8. nóżka chodzi 9. aaaaaaa absolute banger 10. aaaa 11. ill listen to that looking at stars
but we already knew that
Superb, loved it.
One of my absolutely top favourite albums. Got so many complex memories and people such as Norma and Phil March.
Every song was great. I dont know why havent listened to it before
A hella good album and one of the most legendary from Bowie, a lotta songs I listened to already and more that I will listen to now.
This is the best album in the history of the world.
Belter
By creating an artificial character Bowie discovered his own truth.
There's a staaaarrmannnn waiting in the sky!
Piece of ART
I’m not a massive Bowie-guy and never listened to this album start to finish, but really pleased I now have. Don’t love all the tracks but Starman and Moonage Daydream are brilliant and those alone elevate this album above many others. Still don’t totally get why Bowie is SUCH a national treasure. Clearly has a lot to do with his androgynous, impossible to put-in-a-box, alter-ego which allows many to find escapism and vicariously live out fantasies through him.
Great album
Not bad for a pop star of the time.
i've been itching for a concept album and this one hits. tons of fantastic tracks and a cool, ridiculous, loose rock opera story line. 10/10
Sounded great and incredibly fun. Gotta give the space album a 10
Favorite tracks: 1. Starman (obvi) 2. Lady Stardust 3. Ziggy Stardust (obvi) 4. Rock'n'Roll Suicide Bowie is a fuckin' legend. Great album.
Great album. Classic.
This is a top tier Bowie album in my opinion
I'm not always that into Bowie, but I think this album was a 10. Had a fun concept that was tied into a good amount, Starmanis a classic, and there were no songs that felt particularly weak.
Discazo. I finally understand everything that it's said about David Bowie
Loved it. Probably going into my regular album rotation for the next couple months if not longer. 10
A near flawless record for me.
👍👍👍

Never heard many of these, loved all
Jeez
Love this album. Was great to return to it!
Such a great concept album, probably my favorite Bowie album. Got into it after Phish covered it for a Halloween show, but now I often will put it on to give it a full listen. Every song is a highlight.
I mean... it's Ziggy Stardust. C'mon.
Amazing. Glam rock concept madness that gels together perfectly.
made me happy thank you dave
Still a great listen.
very good will listen again
Great. Classic Bowie. Great intro into Ziggy
One of the top 5 albums of all time. Easy 5 stars.
9
Awesome
Brilliant album, have been listening since 2001 or so when I bought it on CD
Perfect I'd say! And stuck in my head days later in a good way.
Mother fucking Bowie! I’d heard the hits off this album before, but even the songs I hadn’t heard were amazing. Listening to this album I felt like I’d been born in the wrong musical era.
Easy 5 star. Great concept, great songs, very significant historically, has spawned many incredible covers...this is a true all timer. I always love a good rock opera
Wonderful. Epic.
4.7
An album where I knew the singles but never had heard the album all the way through. Now I can see why its a classic; it sounds like the call of the early 70s.
Grade-A classic. Five Years, Starman, Teenage Daydream...
One of my favorite albums. Great songs with overarching theme.
One of the best album of David actually
I love every songs on this album
Ahaha Ziggy Stardust is so sexy
My favourite Bowie
Great album!
Hey man, my favorite Bowie album
good afternoon, penis :3 you are loved, you are worthy. we all adore you. sorry for hijacking your account. by the way, David Bowie is the shit.
Great shit. Such a wonderful look at an artist when they go out on a limb. Big time 4 for sure.
Acknowledging it as a classic by one of my favourite artists, I need to admit there’s some moments that annoy me. When I worked in retail as a kid, some older guy infiltrated the house sound system and taped over one of the cassettes. I don’t remember anything he included beyond “Suffragette City” and “Five Years”. I can’t figure out if he happened to choose the two songs from Ziggy that I was predisposed not to like, or if I was driven to dislike by hearing them once an hour of every day I worked there. It’s tough for any music to stand up to that much constant repetition. Most other aspects of the album are a win for me. The concept and characters. The fact that Bowie’s had discovered the idea of becoming someone else in performance. The iconic artwork. I have a few issues with production choices here and there, although I accept a lot of them were simply of their time. I guess a hot take is that I’m not convinced that glam rock is the best fit of genre for Bowie. Obviously he could be considered fundamental to glam, but I think other eras of his career have found better styles for his output. There was no point in denying my reservations to come here and wax about this classic album, likely saying nothing new. But now I’ve said what I felt was necessary, it’s fair to also say “Hang on to Yourself”, “Moonage Daydream”, “Starman” (for heaven’s sake) and my personal favourite “Soul Love” illustrate the undeniable brilliance of an album that earned its place in history almost instantly all those years ago.
Nice
A very fun David Bowie album Fav songs - Soul Love, Starman, Ziggy Stardust
I always skip the title track but still love this record.
There's a starman waiting in the sky!
his best work. definitely some songs that i still think about to this day. Would I listen again: yes Deserves to be on this list: yes! 4.4
Inexplicably this is the first Bowie album on the list so far. If I could contort my mind to not compare Bowie to Bowie, this might be a 5. But there are albums of his I like so much more.
Great album
Final (I think) verdict on Bowie: He’s got at least as much crud as he’s got cream, but when he’s really on one he can make some pretty great stuff. Unfortunately, even his great stuff has a ceiling, on account of him always seeming kinda annoying. This one, and Hunky Dory, are the Bowie 5s.
Lovely, but not instantly memorable. Great soundtrack music
4.5 if I could give half stars. Album is an all timer! Fav Tracks: Basically every song is a banger
great. i think i prefer bowie's later stuff these days though.
It was quite nice a change from my usual style! (I like starman)😋💗
Every time I hear it I like it more. Bowie is fun, I have to give him that. I do wish that more of the songs actually felt like songs I wanna sing along to, but hey
I think Station to Station is still my favorite Bowie album. Overall, I’m glad to have given this a relisten. Listening after a decade, I can tell my tastes have moved further away from glam rock and the ballads don’t hit the same as they did when I was a teenager. That being said, it’s still an incredible record that I can really appreciate as the launching point of Bowie’s career to start taking bigger swings.
Great album, I actually own this one which is kinda neat.
Alle kjenner Starman og Ziggy, evige bangers. Gøy å høre de i kontekst.
Finally a David Bowie album I actually like almost all the way through.
A surprise Bowie hit for me.
Uh oh, is this gonna be a taslking heads thing for me wherer I only like it a little or only like the hits of an acclaimed artist? Time will tell
An acquired taste with bold flavors. Great album
I’m a Bowie fan, and enjoy his Ziggy Stardust phase.
As this is my third David Bowie album in the last month or so, I've recently written a bunch about how I've never been much of a fan of his music. A couple of weeks ago I had the chance to listen to Station to Station and absolutely loved it, so I thought maybe I'd turned a corner on this. I had never listened to this record before today. I have no clue how that happened, as I had friends who were fans and we played all kinds of albums all the time back in the late 70's/early 80's. When this came up today I was hesitant, as this is the holy grail of Bowie albums. I wondered if I'd be heretical or would I absolutely "get it." What happened is that it's somewhere in the middle. I ended up listening to it twice, just to be sure. Midway through I was wondering what all of the fuss was about, and couldn't imagine this was considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Towards the end I was beginning to understand a bit more, but I decided I needed to listen with the lyrics in front of me to give it a better chance. I was listening in the car and not able to give it my full attention, and it felt like this is the type of album that deserves that attention. After the second listen I can say I get it. I now understand why it's so beloved as a record. It tells a story from start to finish, and also has a bunch of killer songs. There are songs I felt were filler, but I can also see how others would disagree. Standouts for me were Five Years, Soul Love (beautiful song), Starman, Lady Stardust, and Rock 'n' Roll Suicide. It's not a perfect album and won't get a five rating from me, but I do think I understand why it's so special to so many people.
i'm sure there will be much bowie on this list. this is a very good album, but i hope others rank higher. i was happy to listen to this old friend as it's been a while, and i hope it's a prelude to other listenings from bowie
Love the creativity on this, and Starman is a classic. I'm not the most familiar with Bowie but think this a strong album.
Super album !
I have never really listened to Bowie before, but he has unique music and I can see why people like him.
As expected from Bowie, this is a great album with many enjoyable songs and a lot of variety. The albums lacks some depth as many of the tracks that aren't hits don't offer quite as much to the listener, but the hits are very strong. I could listen to each many times and enjoy them forever.
Better than Coldplay
A brilliant glam-rock concept album. Was a bit unsure of the first two songs but everything that comes after is pretty brilliant. Moonage Daydream, It Ain't Easy, Lady Stardust & Ziggy Stardust the standout songs for me. Lyrically sublime rock and roll.
One of Bowie's best and most conceptual albums. It introduces his alter ego Ziggy who gets sent down to earth to become a rockstar and gets crushed by fame and the rock'n'roll lifestyle, leading to his suicide in the last song. He delivers this storyline with creative and engaging writing and an almost opera-like grandiosity straight from the start. Five Years starts the album off on a slower note, but eventually builds up into this dramatic crescendo that makes for a fascinating and engaging start. From there the album serves one catchy bop after another. Soul Love has amazing influences from funk and r&b, styles that Bowie would incorporate more on other albums and he always sounds great doing it. Moonage Daydream has absolutely insane e-guitar passages that make the song feel so surreal. Then Starman hits you with one of the catchiest choruses ever. Instantly memorable. The chord progression around it also makes it hit. The middle of the album is slightly weaker, but picks up with an amazing 3-song stretch at the very end. Rock'n'Roll suicide is one of the best album closers ever. Not only does it tie the story perfectly, but the way the guitar in the background builds up over the duration of the song, starting from pretty toned down and eventually climaxing into this massive crescendo is one of my favorite moments in music. I think this is easily one of Bowie's best, but also just an incredibly accessible and easy to enjoy record.
Star man is one of my favorite songs, rest of the album is good, but that song is the highlight for me.
Goed
Not the wholly classic album everyone makes it out to be but oh so close! 4.5/5
3,5 en realidad
Dog is named Ziggy!
I mean it's David Bowie, what more is there to say
8/10 This was one of my more anticipated albums. Happy to report it was worth the hype.
Never liked Bowie. And was expecting this peak Ziggy period to be the pinnacle of his pretensive bollocks. Was surprised to find not so at all. Rock-y and riff-led, with hints of Beatles and Cat Stephens, listened twice through back to back. And enjoyed.
Music that was at worse in-offensive and at best delightful. I can understand why this album is one that people talk about and im sure at the time of release was groundbreaking.
The best Bowie era. Love the concept album when done well. All around fantastic album. 4.5
it's not the type of genre i'm really that passionate about BUT it's undeniably an iconic album. giving it a 4 because of Starman
Pretty good as expected
Hermosa tapa. Tiene épica, suena a musical. Quiero otra escucha leyendo las letras. Me gustó.
It's Ziggy innit
Pre Listen: Ah, another album I listened to in full ages ago. I remember adding Starman to my playlist, but that's about it. I got a good number of other Bowie songs on my playlist, so I'm glad to give it another listen. Notable Tracks: Starman - My favorite on the album, how can it not be? The flow of the song is so perfect, starting with simple acoustics, and having more instruments join as the song progresses. I adore the violins most of all. Lady Stardust - I didn't remember this one, but man do I love it. That piano is great, adding to my playlist. Star - My least favorite on the album. I didn't really enjoy the stop-go-stop-go melody they had going on. I get how it fits the lyrical message about being a super-star, but I couldn't get in to it. Rock And Roll Suicide - Another banger I didn't remember. Debating on adding it to my playlist, I'll have to sit on it. Post Listen: This album was a lot better than I remembered. The songs overall ranged from a bit boring at worst, to certified classics at best. I got this album after dealing with what felt like a deluge of Punk albums where everything sounded the same, so having more than 3-4 instruments over the course of the album was like getting a much needed breath of fresh air. Bowie's voice is so unique, but his lyrical wordplay also ranges from a bit bland, to absolutely poetic. I have complicated feelings with Bowie's works, I've always loved a handful of his songs, but generally but feel ambivalent about the rest. This results in feeling as though I really cherish Bowie as an artist, but I don't cherish any of his albums. Because I enjoyed it a lot more than the last time I listened to it, and for Starman alone, gotta give this piece of work a 4.
I liked the overall vibe of the album. Interesting character of Ziggy Stardust, and had the very familiar song Starman which was very approachable. However, David Bowie has that 'shouting/screaming' singing style which worked in most songs but came as a bit annoying in others. Other than that, catchy tunes and an overall solid album.
this album is really good. its incredible. it stands the test of time. one of the few albums with many, many singles and overplayed songs that still resonate and dont feel overplayed. top tier album. bowie is a creep though. big bummer.
It’s just a really easy, good‑time rock record. You throw it on, it hits, and you don’t have to overthink a thing. Every layer (instruments and vocals) play so well together.
Bretty gud. Rockin with the soulful bluesy vibes on side A.
Great album but not my fave bowie
Does Ziggy count as a fursona? Inquiring minds want to know. Yet again, a Bowie album with a whole band’s worth of identity and development, distinct from the others yet not out of place among them. He seems to have had a lot to think about with this production and the result is indeed pretty thoughtful. It’s not my favorite of his eras, but I definitely don’t disagree with people who really dig this.
My favourite Bowie album to date. It's strong and consistent. 'Moonage daydream' is epic. Lots of classic moments. But I'm not a fan of the OTT theatrical style and so will never love a Bowie album.
Album is great. Listened to it a few times, but I wasn’t as locked in as I should have been. Didn’t expect the Superman song to be here, it was quite the surprise!! (Lollll) 22 may 2026
I really really really wanna zig-a-zig-stardust
05/19 Good album
This had some good tracks, think this is what I expected Elton John to sound like and I actually enjoyed it. Spaceman is great and grew on me more than before.
Classic
Absolute banger of an album. So funky and fun. Suffragette city was a particular favourite. A couple of skips though and I didn't like rock n roll suicide and when you don't like the opening or closing track of an album it really lets it down
Although the album felt ‘flung’ together and didn’t really flow there is some really solid tracks on this album amongst a couple of fillers. ‘Five years’ is an absolute tune and by far the best track on the album. ‘Moonage daydream’ ‘ziggy stardust’ and ‘suffragette city’ also absolutely brilliant tracks. ‘Starman’ on the other hand feels really overrated as the popular song off the album and I didn’t enjoy, I also wasn’t keen on ‘soul love’ either. But no denying what an absolute legend. Favourite track- ‘five years’ Worst track- ‘starman’ Solid solid album though 8/10
This may be blasphemy now, but the record while good, is far from perfect. The key tracks remain good after all the years that have elapsed, but the rest of the record is thin. When this came out the hits - Suffragette City, Starman , Ziggy Stardust and Rock n Roll Suicide were immediately attractive. What caused the most difficulty was asking why is there a fucking Elton John track on the record? I know if you are reading this you’re saying WTF is he talking about? There’s no Elton track on this record. But once I point out the track, you will never be able to listen to that track again and not say “WTF, that’s an Elton John track!” So, now listen to the record again and then when you get to “Lady Stardust” tell me I’m not right. Go ahead - do it now. Apart from that disturbing distraction the 1st two tracks are a bit slow and in my view, not on par with the rest. So there you have it. After the Record has been hyped enough to be of cultural significance it simply is just a good record, perhaps really good even, but far less than WOW this is fucking awesome! It’s just not that. 4/5
Starman is on the album
i might become a queer. so cool, i love this iconic music.
Yep, liked it. To the point, coherent yet diverse, cool.
forgot to rate after i listened so i can’t really remember but i think i enjoyed it a good amount
It's great, but quite a bit of it didn't quite tickle my pickle as much as some of his other work.
listened to only "5 years" and "starman." Okay this song has some bangers, didn't listen to the whole playlist at first cus its another oldie.
Iconic. Definitely a top 25 album for me, but I may change my mind later.
Un clásico de Bowie
STARRRRRRRRMAN! This is a great album. Liked almost all of it. 4.5/5
Classique et super ! J'aime bcp Starman
3.6 It's not my usual thing admittedly, but from what I understand in 1972 it was groundbreaking and I can appreciate that. An early foray into art-rock that inspired so many others. First time listening to this, not my favourite Bowie album but certainly not the worst.
interesante
What was it about rockers from this time period that makes them so interested in messiah figures. This share a lot of dna with Tommy. The narrative aspects of this album are kinda dumb aren’t they? There are a lot of hooky songs with great guitar riffs though. The title track features a monster riff. Good album. Not one I reach for very often.
first 4 songs are truly incredible. while the second half is good it’s really not as captivating to me and doesn’t have the pure awe that the first half inspires. Still fantastic though
it's okay.
8/10
I am a strong believer in "situational" or "contextual" listening theory; in fact, I believed in this so strongly that I didn’t even know the formal name for it until five minutes ago. For me, this theory is the belief that the experience of listening to a record or track is heavily influenced by the setting you are in, whether it is a rainy, gloomy day in the city or one full of sunshine. I’ve heard OF this album before, know a song or two, and am familiar with Bowie’s later work, but I was also lucky enough to experience it during a rainy day here in Saint Paul. I found it shocking how perfect the album was for the odd day I experienced today. I am usually more outgoing and productive during the daytime, but perhaps because of the weather–or simply the complexity of these past few weeks and those yet to come– found this album to be incredibly fitting. Thinking about it now, out of the 1,089 other albums I could have been assigned today, it had to be this one; it’s something I can only describe as fate. My listening experience today felt like a total 10/10, but due to my beliefs, I can’t bring myself to officially rate it that high. I know there is a chance I could listen to this record tomorrow and not feel the same way, and not just because of potential fatigue. Without saying any more, I’ll give this album an 8/10—but when the setting is right, it is a perfect 10/10.
It was fun to dip into his alter ego and learn a little from his mind. To me so much of this embody Bowie, so it was just a beautiful trip into his inner thoughts.
Bowie is always great!
More Glam Rock concept albums please
Manche Songs echt gut, all in all aber nichts was mich vom Hocker haut
Dobré album bowie super interpret znala jsem jednu písničku z predtim t
It's a great album. I tried to get into early Bowie before and I never could, but I really enjoyed this and happy to out it into rotation for the occasional re-listen.
Five Years- I'm really liking these drums they scratch an itch in my brain! That was quite sad 😔 Soul Love- omg again the drums/percussion is so satisfying. I like the guitar intro! Moonage Daydream- I like that intro it's powerful! Woah I love this guitar solo/outro section?!?! With the strings OMGG???? Maybe my favourite so far Starman- omg #knowthissongalready. Omgg the iconic part! That was iconic It Ain't Easy- help I'm scared why is he singing like this... WAIT WHAT HAPPENED IT JUST GOT 10X BETTER. Oh nvm this is back... Idk how I felt abt that song I found the chorus fun but his voice made me cringe... Lady Stardust- I like this discordant moment. It was good but didn't stand out. Star- I like the instruments. Idk I'm losing inspiration for thoughts but it was good Hang Onto Yoursefl- I like the guitar in the intro. I like this rn omg the claps are nice. That was a fun song. Ziggy Stardust- I like the intro with the guitars. Yass the vocal crescendo! That was fun and some funny lyrics. I think Ziggy might play guitar? Suffragette City- I like the intro. The "hey man" annoys me a bit idk why 💀. I like the speed and rock vibes. WAIT IS THIS WHERE THE PHRASE WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA'AM COMES FROM? Rock 'n' Roll Suicide- I like the acoustic guitar at the beginning! Is this going to be rlly sad 😔. OMG WAIT NO THAT WAS SO GOOD 😔💔 OK SO I get the Bowie hype. I think listening to some older albums will be refreshing because of just how many instruments there are. Like you can hear each one clearly I loved that. Current (initial listen) ranking: Moonage Daydream Rock 'n' Roll Suicide Five years Soul love Starman Ziggy stardust Hang onto yourself Star Lady stardust Suffragette city It ain't easy
Really love to start listening to david bowie with this album
Bowie’s in space!!!!!!!!!!
I never cared much about Bowie before this list, but I’ve become quite a fan through this project. I talk about him in more reviews than I do any other musician, and it’s not even close. This is an era defining Bowie album, and who am I to argue with its influence?
Probably my favourite of his yet
Not as good as the weird stuff but obviously great
Have heard the hits, but have never actually listened to this album all the way through.solid semi concept album
Rise and Fall isn't my favorite Bowie record of the Ziggy era (I much prefer Aladdin Sane), but that's just semantics. It's still one of the all time great rock albums.
iconic. Brilliant opener & closer.
The dynamics at play here are really nice. From the symphonic sounds to straight four on the floor rock and roll. The drum shuffling happening is pretty great.
Thanks for being weird David
Listens: 4 Standout Tracks: Five Years, Moonage Daydream, Starman Okay. This is one of those top 20 albums, and it's one that I've never heard. Ever. In fact, other than having listened to two other Bowie albums on the List so far, I have no experience with Bowie. I hope this lives up to its fame. After four listens I can say that Ziggy Stardust lives up to the hype. I am not sure it get to that 5 rating from me, but it's pretty damn close. Interesting concept album, diverse song choice and instrumentation, interesting critiques on fame and stardom. It's also surprisingly punk-ish, which I am really starting to appreciate. The Wikipedia article is an interesting read. The songs are all packed with story and exposé on what's happening on earth and how Ziggy comes to be, his lifetime and finally his death at the hands of his fans. Adding the album to my library and certainly adding a few songs to my playlist.
Okay so. So far I really didn't enjoy Bowie's albums. The only times I liked some of his songs were before this website suggested anything. Now, this one is the most popular here. So I have some expectations. Update ; Yeah, it was great. By far the best one I've listened to until now.
This is a brilliant album!!
Yeah!!
Getting this album on the day of the Artemis 2 lunar flyby is kismet
I can't say I ever find myself saying I want to listen to some Bowie, but if and when I ever do, this will be the album I put on.
Its Bowie. Bowie is cool.
David Bowie is good. Who knew?
It’s literally David Bowie like come on now buddy
I can't believe it's taken me this long to listen to Bowie, I mean wow
8/10
actually peak album, very hard to describe but angelic sort of. straight gas best song - starman
(Album #10!) When this popped up, I was legitimately excited. Ziggy Stardust is such a beloved album and David Bowie is such an iconic figure in pop culture and music history. Until today, I'd only ever heard songs from the album, never the whole thing, so it was really interesting to see how the album's story unfolded and how much more robust the music was when I sat down and listened to it holistically. Previously, I did not care much for most of the "famous" songs on ZS, but I think listening cover-to-cover and a few birthdays under my belt have given me some perspective about the messages and storytelling. Bowie was always "cool" for me growing up, but in the last few years, I've really started to understand just how much of a genius he was. If only we could go back in time and figure out how to keep the world from falling apart after he died. :(
ottime tracce, sente molto il tempo
Un viaje maravilloso.
A very groovy, incredible sounding record. For me though, I just don’t quite get the hype to place amongst the best ever. A very solid 4 star record in my opinion.
A few great songs and several okay ones.
Perhaps this album is slightly overrated. But... it's also David Bowie.
I feel like everything he does works even when I don’t think it’s going to. Five years. Wish I had that 7 years ago.
This album gave us the creation of Ziggy Stardust and is one of the most iconic albums in rock history. I've listened to it before, but it's good to sit and listen to it again. It's one of those albums that truly tells a story, so even though there are some great songs on there that were more popular and more people are familiar with, the album is best listened to from start to finish in my opinion. Definitely worthy of being on the list.
David bowie kinda hard
It's great; I think that the front half is slightly stronger than the back half, although it does end on a high with the final three songs. 9/10
Had to listen to this one twice to decide how much I like it. It's really good, but in the end was missing a certain je ne sais quoi preventing it from getting the full 5/5 treatment. Some great tracks and solid from beginning to end.
Love- even better when high
Brilliant tracks. Couple sounded dated.
Starts amazing and ends amazing. Maybe it’s sacrilege to say, but I just don’t dig the middle. Or at least not as much. And it’s not the strongest concept of all time. 3.5 but I’ll round up as 3 is way too mean.
Not the biggest fan of glam rock, but this is good.
I had began believing i wasnt a Bowie fan. So there I was with coffee expecting a while till I found a good album and Bowie slapped me and said, you like this.
This is an excellent album. I happen to be traveling right now, and haven’t had much time to listen to it, so I am excited to give this a really good listen at a later time. For now, I will just say that this seems like the type of album the Beatles could have made later in their careers if they branched out even further away from their meat and potatoes straightforward style. Bowie was such a great songwriter, lots to like about this.
Tsja, David fucking Bowie… you hate him or you love him, ik meet dat eerste, sommige nummers zijn te obscuur, maar ja… zitten wel echte bangers tussen. Toch maar 4 sterren
the rise and fall of ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars this is a very out of the blue album name but it is a very good album didnt expect to know a song from this album but starman is a very famous song which very surprised me another old gen banger good guitar use good amount of singing not much to say just another solid album
david bowie ist halt gut
Very good but not his best
Good album, some classics (Ziggy Stardust, Starman) and some good tracks- (Suffragette city)
