This is it. This is the one. Post-disco, the beginning (and best) of the legendary team of Michael and Quincy. Every song is great. Every hook is memorable and natural. MJ slides between endearing, exciting, and fun like no other. While he is certainly indebted to the likes of James Brown and Diana Ross, there's no debate about his being a through-and-through platinum performer. Even viewing this record with his later works in frame, Off the Wall has that mojo that never quite returned -- not that it needed to. Something that is ubiquitous tends to lose its flair, and in this case, the untouchability of OTW just adds to its legendary status. Don't stop til you get enough, Michael I'll never get enough so I'm not stopping.
Primeira musica eh a musica do Globo Reporter!
So much energy, his voice is unreal and brings with it incredible passion, and literally every song on the album maintains a high level of energy and positive emotion. Not just the voice but the production is near flawless.
Wünderbar 5*
Just bangers
It's Michael Jackson. All bangers with enough nostalgia to combat the occasional cheesy lyrics
Awesome album. Thoroughly enjoyable songs and from when before things all went wrong.
Notes.

Great disco album and I like these ballads better than his later ones.
I forgot how good early MJ was until I listened to this album. I don't like his later music and persona as much, but this album is great.
First time listening to this full album, and first time listening to most of the songs. Fire, as expected
Funny summer vibes w Kaş view
Fun album. Quincy Jones knows how to make a record for sure.
One of my main takeaways from doing this is that I am a big fan of Michael Jackson's music. So FUNKY.
bastante top
Magic
I can’t deny this is good(scandals noted) I like the subdued disco tone and his scat style is less prevalent. It’s got two of the best pop songs ever made as tracks 1&2 Most of my detractors follow this album and Thriller, meticulous over production, weird scat pops that make no sense, and unfocused themes that appeal to a broad audience
Really good, I had this album as a teenager. I enjoyed it
Can't fault MJ and it's an iconic album as expected - there's a couple tracks on this one that I come back to. But it doesn't have the oomph of his later albums for me.
Really good album. I was surprised the MJ was my very first album, aside from the songs that I already knew from this album, the ones that I didn't know were really good. It's a really upbeat and feel-good album that makes you wanna dance and have a good time. One that I added to my playlist that I didn't already have was Get on the Floor.
C'mon, this is MJ! Sounds just super nice and still fresh
Michael Jackson did the impossible. Made disco listenable
Almost legendary
very strong first side of the album, very groovy. it loses it a little bit in the other half though. but overall certified banger.
Don’t stop till you get enough and rock with you are two of the best songs in the entire world ever. Everything else was groovy and fun too
This is like Michael Jackson's second debut album, an artistic rebirth of sorts. With Quincy Jones, Jackson entirely fulfilled his artistic potential in ways most other artists can only dream of, and did so while become the best-selling musical artist in history. Off the Wall sees Jackson shedding his kid performer past in favor of grown-up (but still youthful) Disco and Funk. And despite having been released at the peak of Disco, Jones and Jackson manage to keep the record sounding fresh and exciting. Obviously greater things would followed, but the singer-producer duo were clearly on the right track from the get go. Key tracks: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough Rock With You She's Out of My Life I Can't Help It
So far all of the MJ albums have been winners. This one continues that trend. Surprising considering how early this one was, 1979.
Energetic and masterful grasp of songwriting and production. And to think it’s not even as good as he gets…
This is some good Michael, but not quite great Michael
I have not listened to Micheal a lot throughout my life less the hits. So, I was really excited to get this album. I don’t think I know any song on the track list previously, so I’m going in blind. First Listen: Already, the first song has me grooving and wanting to dance. I love how it starts spoken and just drops into a sick dance beat. Can’t believe this was made in the 70s? It sounds so fresh. The layers of the vocals are great. I like how he slowed down into the second song. I’m realizing how much influence he’s had just by listening. I’ve definitely heard this before. I like that the same overall sound is carrying the album throughout the different songs. Off the Wall and Get on the Floor do not stand out to me that much, tho. She’s out of my hands is a good song but it was such a sudden turn. Think we could’ve done without it to be honest! Fun fun listen. Second Listen: Wow! what a work of art! truly! The songs that stood out on the first listen are even better a second time. Working Day and Night reminded me of Beyoncé’s Blow. She’s out of my life - saved to my likes. It caught me off guard the first time but it’s such a sweet sweet and emotional song. His voice is beautiful. This might make me a fan. Reminded me of Celine’s It’s All Coming Back to Me Now. ---- POEM ---- incautionary tale—crowded metropolia rebuilt in the memory of Summer’s heat dermis of my lips caught in another’s teeth quench of youth’s need—burnt, buried, resurrected—within the cracks of concrete laughter, warm, still bouncing off the echoes caught in the loops the kids run in the streets dread, I must unheed, the stories choose to repeat.
4/8
I'm not sure I've listened to this as an album, but I'm pretty sure I know all of these songs. Separating the art from the artist, this is really good.
Pop solid
Really solid album. Toe tapping beats with some fantastic production, and great performances by Jackson.
I liked it, I don't want to because he creeps me out. But I enjoyed it
Starts off with 2 bangers. The production is full and crisp. Michael's vocals are amazing. Solid 4.3/5.
7-8/10 не совсем мое, но очень неплохо для развития вкуса не думал что мне понравится, попса бывает приятной
It's not the best one, but it is Michael Jackson
Part of me doesn't want to give this it's flowers, but it's just too good. Nostalgia wins again.
Very nice discovery. Really liked it!
tranquilo pero con personalidad,no denso de escuchar, buena variación de ritmos.Me gustó conocer.
Bad
classic. Listening to this album in midst of michael movie hype makes you appreciate mj even more voice is amazing rythm is amazing.
Rockin with this
banger
Just brilliant
Pretty unstoppable record, at least side A. I don't know that I've ever heard anything on side B, and don't really have to again.
This captures MJ just before his fame and popularity broke through the exosphere and started forever after shaping his public persona and image. It’s a marvelous showcase for an incredibly talented songwriter and vocalist, even if the music occasionally veers into dated and syrupy territory. Still chapped that my LP copy mysteriously disappeared decades ago.
Beyond the certified bangers this is still a strong album.
Better than thriller. Yeah, I said it.
There are a few lame songs towards the end that bring this down, but overall it slays unfortunately
exceptional debut album full of hits. and for how good this album is, thriller is just leagues above it.
This is his best era imo. I think Thriller still tops it but this one is a close second.
First half is excellent; some amazing disco/funk production from Quincy Jones, and Jackson's performance is great. Let down a little by the more ballad heavy side 2.
Classic, obviously. However the second half is way too slow. Bumped down for that
Fanken
Quincy Jones, along with Phil Spector, is one of the very few non-musician, non-vocalist producers who deserve top credit for an album’s success…and he earns it here, taking Jackson’s talent and drive and turning him into an adult (at least musically). It’s a masterpiece of pop production.
Sounds so good. Not all songs are my favorite, but you can’t deny the quality.
Geen MJ fan, maar ontkennen dat dit een goed album is, is lastig. De 2 openers zijn echt van gigantische klasse.
Pretty close to perfect. A great Quincy Jones arrangement, and not over-produced. A great debut, and maybe second only to Thriller. 4⭐️
Great album. Jackson and Quincy are awesome together. Fun album start to finish. 6/6/26
This was my first time listening to a Michael Jackson album all the way through. I see why people see him as the King of Pop. The vocals coupled with the instrumentation is just amazing.
Michael Jackson before the weirdness happened - or at least became public. The most valuable players here are Quincy Jones and his team of arrangers who provided the lushest, grooviest backing tracks for Jackson to yelp, uh huh, wooo and falsetto over. The first half of the album is a solid wall of disco goodness, one banger after another, but once Paul McCartney's Wings era influence appears (with a song from the weak London Town album of all places) the thing goes to hell. She's Out of My Life follows, sounding like it's arrived straight down the middle of the road from a Broadway show. I Can't Help It (Or I Can't 'Elp It) is a fine Stevie Wonder song and sounds, well, more Wonder than Jackson. It's The Falling in Love might have a great arrangement and a Jackson vocal, but it's gussied up generic disco. The thing pulls itself together for Burn the Disco Out to send the crowds away happy. So, brilliant enough in parts, but it drags in the second half. I'll give it a 4 on the understanding that I've rounded up.
YESSSSS FINALLY A MJ ONE. ok this is fire. he made this at 20???
8/10
Maybe i have other jackson projects up higher than this but rock with you might be my favorite micheal track of all time. Its top 3 easily. Also the rush hour song. At least thats how I know it, watching that movie over and over again in the early 2000s. Solid ass start thays for sure. It does taper off a bit after that but its still a micheal jackon record. Its still great. Just a bit slow and disco heavy for me. Not bad at all just not as consistently the king of pop type stuff. Get on the floor, girlfriend, and its the falling in love were my more low key likes here. All good stuff. And everything else is also good. Just not my favorite.
Really good! So vibey, he always hits unfortunately.
Classic pre-weird MJ album. Full of bangers! Loved it. A few average tracks, but not many.
It has to be noted that disco does indeed suck. Now that the elephant is out of the room, this is, indeed, Michael Jackson, and it is, indeed, an amazing album. Michael was a rare artist that could survive and even thrive despite the genre being so incredibly banal and unoriginal. This is not his best work, but completely shows off his showmanship, voice, and talent in an excellent light. As you may surmise, I am not a 70’s dance music fan, so it should come as no surprise that I am only rating this 4 stars, but if I were a critic, it would earn the fifth quite easily. 4 stars
Прекрасний альбом, можливо десь 1-2 пісні повз мене, а так що сказати - класика. 4.5
Good but not “Can Get Away With Crimes Against Children” good
Well well well if it isn’t the album that’s better than Thriller. This, to me, is the anatomically correct fusion of pop, disco, and funk. Quincy Jones managed to do the impossible: seek perfection and NOT shave away any character/personality in the process. Michael just had to be his high-performance self (before the transgressions he took in his later years which should maybe have him removed from this list). Unlike Thriller, this project is hot to the touch on first contact. “Dont Stop Till You Get Enough” is an excitable pop song that you’d swear was the most perfected thing you’ve ever heard — until the next offering of “Rock With You” comes along. It’s a slightly more subdued jam but still achieves that same perfect pop clarity. “Get On The Floor” is far and away my favorite song on this album, it’s one of my favorite dance songs of any decade. Sweaty, blissful, aerodynamic, air-tight disco. I love riding the little wave that the hook takes the listener on. A bassline and drum pocket that play off each other so well. Soaring strings and explosive horn snippets. A little reverb makes this whole thing sound like it’s a transmission from disco heaven. How about “Girlfriend”! Dreamy and boyish, you don’t need liner notes to hear the Paul McCartney fingerprints all over this song - there’s an unmistakable ease in the composition. Just like you can hear Stevie Wonder from a mile a way on “I Can’t Help It”. A little itch that needs scratching is left with the listener, as I feel like Wonder probably could one-up Michael on his own version. “She’s Outta My Life” feels like an obligatory heartbreak ballad, continuing the boyish, clear-eyed, earnest persona Jackson puts forth. This isn’t the greatest soft ballad of all time, but I’ll be damned if they didn’t find another fantastic way to wrap up a chorus. It is true that this album loses its generational mojo towards the end. You can easily coast off of the incredible vibes the first half leaves you with. Nothing offensive in the last few songs, just not what the front half of the record was. It’s an incredibly firm 4/5, about as close as you can get to a 5. My god, that first bunch of tracks. Amazing.
Super cool, super funky. It's obviously a classic album, MJ truly has some of the best music ever. Off The Wall was my fav song and first listen of the album. Rock With You and She's Out Of My Life were my other highlights

Kinda wish the song order was reshuffled so it plays like a relationship running it's course.
Erittäin hyvää musiikkia 5/5
Very classic Michael
Don't stop till you get enough er banger og flest af rest er mjög gott discó, en ég fíla ekki þessar ballöður. Girlfriend útgáfan er mun slappara en McCartney útgáfan á London town og She's out of my life er leiðinlegt. En hvorki það né hans próblematíska arfleið kemur í veg fyrir fjarka hér.
This recalls nights at the roller-skating rink in my pre-teen years. Infectious rhythms that get you moving. Even as I read the lyrics to Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, it's hard to make the chorus match what Michael is singing, but it works. Rock with You is the star of this album, which paved the way for the all-time megahit of Thriller. The title track is entertaining, and Workin' Day and Night is good, but the rest is filler.
gonna be real i don't know what the deal is with michael jackson on if he's a pedo or not (i know very little about him), but as for the album, it was pretty enjoyable disco. i think it loses steam a bit in side two with the ballads and covers that don't quite match the funky vibe of the first side. they aren't terrible they're just kinda There. title track is the easy standout to me. i need a lot more disco in my life. bring disco back.
The third best MJ album, but I guess the other two are on the list as well so I don't mind that too much. His most Disco album and I usually like disco! I do admit I've overall avoided MJ for years due to *gestures vaguely* reasons and discourse. This was alright, but I wouldn't call it great. The best songs, Don't stop, Rock with you and Off the Wall- they're all incredible. The rest? Kinda just washed over me and made me wish I was listening to a different Michael Jackson Album instead.
Kyaaaaaaaaaaaa but not my usual thing
Really solid disco record that kind of drags on side two. (Context: I've never heard of this artist and know nothing about his personal life.)
Listened to Jarons vinyl - he who asserts this is better than Thriller. Stupid! Still very good frankly, just not as cohesive and experimental as Thriller, and features more duds. At its best the incredibly tight and fast funk hits - ie Dont Stop and Working. Rock with you fills the gap between those two perfectly. Album never reaches those heights again, and especially peters out towards the ends. Was just thinking about the worth of purely mindless, purely physical pop music such as this ("Relax your mind"... "just enjoy yourself"), lyrics that basically just tell you to dance and say vacuous things about love (though they move Michael so much he cries on the record). I feel like if I truly obeyed the purest principles I would not allow myself to listen such an album. I really do take issue with hedonistic music - art is for enlivening the mind, and here he is telling you to stop thinking. And yet.. its undeniably awesome. Michael is no master of the language of word (besides the use of "force" on the openers hook I love that), but here he is (approaching) being a master of the language of music (which he would reach wholly an album later). And perhaps all you need is the language of music, and let the lyrics sit back and be an excuse for him be also one of the best vocalists ever and make crazy ass noises, and find the deeper poetry therein.
Hadnt ever listened to a Michael Jackson album all the way through before. Wow
TOPICAL GENERATOR PICK! The first two tracks on this album are fucking unreal. The rest of the album is great. All hail Quincy Jones the goat.
Immaculate timing, lads! Anyways this album is my fav MJ. Is that the pretentious take? Maybe, but GOD!!! A lot of albums we've listened to so far have suffered from sameiness, but this one just starts and absolutely does not stop. Absolutely fucking relentless grooves. The ultimate Fire-and-Forget party album. From his catalog that is. It's The Falling In Love... is fine fine fine fine.
this MIGHT be better than thriller... it's more consistent anyway. in terms of album-opening punctuation, the 'woo!' in 'don't stop till you get enough' is rivaled only by the snare shot that kicks off 'like a rolling stone.' incredible production from quincy jones, was also really blown away by the bass playing on this listen. the other standout for me is 'she's out of my life,' which pretty easily clears every other ballad i've heard from him. the voice crack at the end really seals it

Hee hee
Classic album! 9 great tracks. The only one I don't like is "She's Out of My Life". 4/5
Mj first listen good waiting for thriller.
Michael‼️ Amazing talent, and though it feels dated, it still holds up🎶
1st time listening This was my first time listening through a full Michael Jackson album, and I think this was the best one to start off with. I really enjoyed hearing his early vocals before most of his big hits. Some of the electric guitar playing reminded me of Masayoshi Takanaka, which I enjoyed. I would give this album an 8/10 enjoyment ranking
Ok
Disco, funk, pop, R&B.
Solid all the way. Super enjoyable listening experience
(Außer she's out of my life..)
Please
Separating the art from the artist as hard as I possibly can: this is a pretty slick album
Had a great time!
Besides a slightly weaker second half, this was a pretty consistently great album overall. Not as many obvious earworms compared to Thriller, but still very catchy and not much to complain about. Some slow moments drug on for a bit too long but that's about it. 4/5
Yesyesyes. Groovy af
Erg leuk en playful album. weet perfect de vibe te pakken voor bv een discoavond en over het algemeen erg goed. Fun listen
Mér líður alltaf hálfilla með að hlusta á hann. Lögin og platan samt góð.
i find it wonderful and truly pop sound. will listen again to calm myself down and relax. loved it
El michael temonesss
MJ!!!!
funky and super fun
Strong record, although maybe not his best. Some strong songs, but also very poppy.
The first half of this album is absolutely phenomenal and had me really worried I was going to have to rate Michael Jackson a 5. Ridiculously funky, excellent vocals, just a really fun time. Thankfully? The second half takes a bit of a dive. It's not awful, it's just not as good as the first half. "She's Out of My Life" sounds like it inspired every slow number from every Disney soundtrack for the last 40 years, so it has clearly had a cultural impact. Overall, a very enjoyable listen. Great showcase of Michael's undeniable talent as well as a producing triumph. Reluctant but very high 4.
An all-timer.
I mean it's hard to not like Michael Jackson's music, but fair play to those that can't separate the art from the artist. Love the disco groove of this album overall. It's not as iconic as say Thriller but it's still a nice listen.
It’s almost like Michael was popular for a reason.
QUEL CLASSIQUE , MASTERCLASS , MJ LE ROI DE LA POP bref 4 étoiles.
I have a tough time separating art and artist with this one. Maybe it's the kids? Maybe the idea that as a society we're still so willing to look past what he might have done? I mean, come on, do we need the movie? That said, the opening track is just a great, great pop/disco track. It's too bad his life went off the wall as his star rose, seems like a tortured soul. I'm going to rate the music rather than him and go with 4 here.
1) "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" - fun song. nothing really stood out to me, but i liked it 2) "Rock With You" - very catchy refrain. enjoyed it immensely 3) "Workin' Day and Night" - i really like the percussion in this one 4) "Get on the Floor" - good song! 5) "Off the Wall" - i really REALLY like this one. one of my faves 6) "Girlfriend" - so full of love and whimsy. i like it. 7) "She's Out of My Life" - i know how it feels. good song 8) "I Can't Help It" - BANGER. 9) "It's the Falling In Love" - i liked this a lot :-) 10) "Burn This Disco Out" - fun song. not much to note. overall, the type of album i'd enjoy listening to in the background! i enjoyed getting schoolwork done listening to this. thank you MJ, you're the best FAVES: Rock With You, Off the Wall, She's Out of My Life, I Can't Help It
Funky Disco Album mit Pop Enflüssen als Grundlage für das folgende erfolgsalbum.
Muy divertido
Obviously there's a lot of non-music *stuff* around Michael Jackson. But no one can deny the talent.
It’s insane to think about how many hits MJ had. One of a kind musician.
tiene 2 canciones tristes que me la bajo mucho
This record is the first big breakout album of MJ's solo career away from the Jackson 5. Bolstered by The Brothers Johnson and Rufus, the songs are fun and full of life with super danceable jams adorned with popping bass hooks and snappy guitars. MJ's vocals are more restrained than they would be on later releases but that doesn't mean his personality doesn't shine through. "Don't Stop", "Rock With You" and "Get On The Floor" are some of the best tracks on this album that truly represent the best of what Disco had to offer. I wish Side B was as fire as side A though. The title track is superb of course, but the super saddening "She's Out of My Life" halts this dance party rather abruptly, and while on it's own it's a fine track.. I just can't help but feel like it could have been left out. The album ends strong though with some soulful jams and one last disco rager with the aptly titled "Burn This Disco Out". All in all, a swell Disco classic that's always worth a spin.
Probably my favorite MJ record I’ve heard. Simply infectious funk disco grooves that I can put on repeat and feel amazing listening to.
sure he's a pedophile, but i've already had to listen to Aerosmith and RHCP so at least this one's a pedophile who made bangers
I liked it, really good album. It finishes kind of weak though the earlier songs are much better in my opinion
buen album disco, michael es el numero 1
Classic, what a debut album. Just slightly falls off near the end for me but still great quality.
First five tracks are all good to great. After that, it trends downhill - a lot of that is probably due to me not liking ballads at all. Only half of the album is good, but that half is awesome, so it gets a 4.
Favorite track(s): Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Rock With You, Workin' Day and Night, Get on the Floor, Off the Wall Heard before Previous rating: 7/10
Very catchy and fun. Love Michael's voice. The disco beats feel a little simple and same-y after a while
This is one that 17-year-old me probably unfairly dismissed, a little. There were 2 or 3 clunkers, I think (the slow ones, basically), but what an amazing line up of musicians, and what excellent music, on the others. Just don't know if I can quite give it 5 stars - though, if I end up with 4, I'll have to wonder is it the music's fault, or mine? Louis Johnson (of the Brothers Johnson) on bass, for 9 of the 10 tracks; Quincy Jones; Rod Temperton, and with songs by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder (albeit , not their best). I think I'll stick with 4 stars, though. 2nd listen: last couple songs kinda meh, #7 too (sappy, boring) #8 Stevie - not his best, ditto #6 Sir Paul
again, i do not condone paedophilia
Favorite Track: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
Gran clásico de Michael Jackson, siempre se disfruta un álbum de él a lo cual la primera canción te da pauta a que será un camino musical que se disfruta
This album was really good; all the songs have a great sound, and I would listen to it again.
This is such a smooth, cool album full of great songs. Some hits, some lesser known but not a bad song here. He's called the king of pop for a reason.
incredible album, first showcase of Michael’s true superstar status that would come.
kötü şarkı yok. harika bir albüm. workşn day night baya güzelmis
Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall? I'll say he is… he's off the planet. Wants to freeze himself, doesn't he?
Michael Jackson is one of my favourite artists, and although this isn't his best album in my opinion, its still a solid album with all of the songs being easy to listen to, and some great songs in there. 8/10
Hyvä levy kuten odottaa saattoi. 4/5.
My first major "art from the artist" kind of situation in this project. Ah well, I guess I have to be prepared for that. In all honestly, I've certainly heard the hits but there are great songs throughout and my main takeaway was a real appreciation for how much Quincy Jones had to do with the MJ rocket taking off.
Very funky and fun to listen to while working my retail shift. Cool !
class
fantastic!
I really liked this album, I know Michael Jackson was the king of pop but I wasn’t expecting anything amazing, surprisingly it was great, definitely a save
04/04/2026 I've never done a full Jackson album before and I only really know the famous songs. This was a decent enough album, but some of the songs became a bit boring and samey. Sorry Mike Spotify listeners: 63.2 million
I really liked this
Classic
Fun album! Michael Jackson in his disco era a few years before he became the biggest music star of his time. Not perfect, but still a good album! 4/5
Couple bangers but all around solid.
Good, not quite at the level of Bad or Thriller but it's really good
Upbeat throughout and plenty of bangers. Good stuff.
A couple meh songs but the good ones are really really good
Best MJ album by far. Just one epic disco banger after another. Every song is colorful, vibrant, full of energy and super catchy, maybe with the exceptions of the kinda meh ballad She's Out fo my Life.
Es bueno, tiene todo el sonido de los 70
- Love the bells and triangles used throughout as percussion - groovy as hell - smooth as hell - top 3 michael album
I get enough pleasure, i can stop
2 bangers the rest was just mj
Not bad but I still think MJ is overrated
4.5 - Would’ve been a 5 if it wasn’t for She’s out of my life
I mean what do you expect.
la verdad creo que su mejor album
Favourite tracks: Rock with you, Off the Wall and It's the falling in Love. Weird to think that Michael Jackson wasn't always the massive deal he is now.
Day 24 — Michael Jackson — Off the Wall (1979) Listened: Mar 24–25, 2026 Genre: Funk / Soul / Disco / R&B Vibe: Late 70s disco energy with classic Jackson funk, soul and R&B touches Highlights: • Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough • Rock With You • Off the Wall • Girlfriend • I Can’t Help It • It’s the Falling in Love Impression: Not a big fan of pop and disco but Michael Jackson’s natural R&B, soul and funk make this an enjoyable album for me. Rating: 4.0/5 Keep songs? Yes Revisit album? Yes
4.5 2 other mj albums that are clearly better come to mind
First half is sublime, then it tails off. Get on the Floor has a filthy bass riff. Production is a Quincy Jones master class.
So talented. Weird, poor guy, but talented.
sounds a little different than the previous album by Pink Floyd but not terrible, 4/5
its really nice, i love the vibes. type of song id listen to when I'm happy of in a cheerful mood, but not the kind id listen to on a daily basis.....id rate it a good 7/10.
you can definitely tell this is the first album he did with quincy. some great tunes, i’ve never heard before.
I love so much of this. But man it drags so much from Girlfriend to I Can't Help It. Sorry Mike. It drops it to a 4.
10 mal besser als bad. Funky und smooth 4/5
Such a shame that MJ tarnished his legacy so badly in later years, because when he was young, funky, and still black, the dude kicked some ass!!! This album starts to strong with Don’t Stop, backed up with Rock With You, Workin’ Day and Night, Get On The Floor, and Off The Wall. Killer side 1!!! The ballady numbers on side 2 are decidedly weaker, before a return to the disco for the final track. Overall, a very good (but not flawless) late 70s gem.
Undeniably a very good album
This Michael Jackson guy knows how to make music. The biggest problem with this album is that it isn't Thriller. Favorite track: "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough"
Rating the album and not the person (yeah I know, bad dude, tough to separate art from artist, etc.), this one is pretty great, but with a few weak points that pulled me out of the extremely grooving flow. The bass is almost as central as Michael’s voice, and makes the album for me. If listening again, I might skip, or at least tune out during, “Girlfriend,” “She’s Out of My Life,” and “It’s the Falling Love.”
First time listening to a full Michael Jackson album. Growing up in the 80’s his hits were pretty unavoidable; it’s hard to describe to anyone 30 and under just how famous MJ was. However as a “rock guy” I never really gave his music a chance. But this is a great dance/disco album. The first half is five stars, but it fades a bit in the second half.
Weirdly haven't checked out Michael Jackson until now. It’s groovy, funky, yea I like it. 7.2/10
A very good disco album, the arrangements by Quincy Jones help a lot in maintaning this album fresh sounding,
Good, great even but a little samey
Every track top 10 quality. Great production, beautiful moog baselines, imaginative songwriting
He's grooving. And so am I.
Starts of really strong but loses some steam in the 2nd half. It is a very good album and I wished there were more albums of this quality on the list
I’ve never really invested time into getting to know Michael Jackson’s music, kind of figuring I’d heard enough naturally to get the idea. Off the Wall starts with the one track I’d definitely heard before. I like the length — it gives it time to breathe and serves as a nice opening salvo to all the pop hits that follow. The best song for me was Rock With You, with some really nice backing vocals in the chorus. It’s The Falling In Love was another one I found really catchy and was humming long after it was over. I wasn’t a big fan of the ballad, She’s Out of My Life, but I dig the way his voice breaks at the end. A nice touch I feel like modern records forget sometimes… a great voice should also still feel human. It’s a great pop record with an appealing disco sound. It’s not enough of my thing to go full marks, but it’s super solid, and something I enjoyed a lot more than I expected to.
4.5 because shes out of my life is so treacly it cant b 5 star
Solid tracks on this album. At least two big ones and one sleeper track on Off the Wall title track. Maybe not as good as Thriller or Bad, but definitely up there. 4/5
Ersti Helfti eig besser als Thriller. So Funky und de Bass hät so coocked. Zweit Helfti ledier nöd so starch.
Great hits here!
Early Jackson classic
Almost as good as Thriller. 7/10
My son got into Michael Jackson's music last year. It made me relisten to a great deal of his back catalogue. Early, bouncing, dancing Michael was the best Michael. This isn't a perfect album, but it has some of the best aged music.
okayyyy
i rate it a good 7 very much happy vibes
First half was absolutely amazing, second half it slacked a bit for me but still an amazing album
Dancing is not optional with this album- a classic! Favourite track: Rock with You
Disco-fied funky, bro can sing.
Svängigt värre! Fantastiska arr. Blås och stråk är on point. Många bangers. Stark 4a! She’s out of my lifes musikvideo kan inte haft en stor budget haha.
Gick in med orimligt låga förväntningar. Hade fått för mig att jag inte gillar hans musik men glömt att han är geni. Classic
mkt lättlyssnat
Personally, I think Thriller is better. But you can hear how Quincy Jones & Michael Jackson were already starting to get away from disco/r&b & embrace pop. Something they would perfect a few years later.
Favorite tracks: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Rock With You, Off the Wall, Burn This Disco Out Endless grooves and bangers with generational basslines.
I think the best MJ album. I actually have a download of this.
cool
Another classic. Can’t go wrong.
Gran disco, me gustó mucho. Mi canción preferida te estarás preguntando? Workin' Day and Night, sin duda.
Not nearly as many standouts as his other classics, but I really enjoy the bass on this one
I this is the best MJ album
I do enjoy a Michael Jackson album from time to time.
Seminal but dated
Before I put this on I didn't think I recognised any of the songs on here, yet I found that I knew almost all of them. Really goes to show MJ's influence on music and just how widespread it was, as well as the fact that its enough quality to be recognisable even when only having heard it in the background before. Very good.
Some of the songs are a little generic sounding, I can’t help it,
Fun and full of disco funk. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough and Rock With You are the highlights of the album
Heard Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough and Rock With You before, but the rest is all very 70s disco vibes (except She’s Out of My Life) I liked It’s the Falling in Love
MICHAELLLL
I think this is Michael's best album. Thriller is a great album but this one really gets me moving. Tracks 1 through 5 especially.
he had to start with a bang and he did exactly that
Some hangers on here. Haven’t heard the whole album in a long time. Nice funky catchy groovy music. Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough: 9/10 So groovy and catchy. Rock With You: 9/10 Just fantastic. Workin Day and Night: 8/10 Catchy as. Get on the Floor: 7/10 Great song. Off the Wall: 6.5/10 Nice bassline. Girlfriend: 6.5/10 She’s out of my life: 5/10 I can’t help it: 7.5/10 The chord progression is so cool. It’s sounds mysterious. It’s the Falling in Love: 5/10 Burn this disco out: 5/10
Obvious 5. Minus 1 for being in the Epstein Files
Flynn made some compelling points about this but i think it still boils down to i would expect an MJ album to demand more of my attention. That said its still pretty incredible what he could do.
He’s not my favourite pop star of this era. I’d much rather listen to Prince or Madonna. But there’s no denying he was the best at what he did. This is silky smooth, fun and engaging from start to finish. For anyone else, every song could be a hit single and for him, they’re just album tracks. The slow ballads don’t hit as well as they might’ve back in the 80s, which is strange because he has good ballad chops (Ben? Singing to a rat? Iconic), and this isn’t his best work by a million miles but it’s still damn good.
bombo pop
I like this way more than I do most of Thriller. I can actually get down to this one without being constantly reminded the drums were fully prerecorded on a machine. The guy always had catchiness as part of his repertoire, but this album is just on another level for me. The first three tracks just flow into each other so well.
A few songs I didn't really know yet, but always good.
Such a groovy disco record; MJ proved he called the shots.
A classic album for sure. It landmarks the transition between disco, funk and pop. Michael Jackson’s vocals never cease to impress, however, Quincy Jones’ instrumental and arrangements makes this album what it is. And it sets a tone for the rest of MJ‘s career. This album is basically a showcase of Quincy Jones’ genius. I would rate this a 4.5 if I could, because I feel like some songs could’ve had more creativeness to them, especially in the slow ones.
Amazing first half of the album, a lacklustre second half and slow songs but an amazing ending song to round off the 70s. Favourite - Off the Wall Worst - Girlfriend
i mean yeah objectively good if ur feeling the vibe
Great album! Not the best of his by any means but still pretty good!
Of the three Michael Jackson albums on here I've gathered that this is the least known, or at least the lesser rated. I've had all three, and can say for certain that this is my favourite. These funky basslines are phenomenal (you can tell Stevie Wonder had a hand in this) and his singing is his best here in my opinion. The first half of the album is fantastic, however it doesn't get a 5 because a couple of the songs in the latter half aren't as good, e.g. Girlfriend. High 4.
A lower hit-rate than 'Thriller' and 'Bad', this is the warm-up for Jacko in the 80s. But surely some tracks here are the exemplar of credible disco/funk, even if there's dreary filler betwixt. Based on those tracks alone, it gets its high rating.
Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is pretty fresh and exciting, the rest is good or sometimes fine, from decent non-intense disco tracks to slow ballads that sound alright but they're still just slow ballads, I don't necessarily see enough cause to love this album but it's easy to like
Pop funk disco perfection
pretty darn good
Always loved this album!
Dammit I miss 70s Michael Jackson
Slightly dated, but the hit singles still are fun to listen to. Natural first step that led to "Thriller".
What a great first half of an album that finishes fantastically. The production is fantastic and Jackson's lyrics and singing is phenomenal and gives off pure boogie. You can't not dance to these songs. That being said, Girlfriend goes on too long and is the least interesting production on the album. A lot of the songs in the second half are similar, with the exception of Burn This Disco Out. Overall, an unimpeachable first half and ending mixed with less interesting and good songs in the second half. Highlights for me are Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough, Get on the Floor and Burn This Disco Out.
It didn’t have my fav MJ songs but was a really good album, start to finish. Easy to listen to in the background
Oh he's groovin
Well, what can anyone say about this one? I was NOT a big Jackson fan back in my high school days, when this came out. But his talent was impossible to deny. Song for song, probably not as strong as Thriller, which was yet to come, but also not far behind it. Infectious fun.
The first half is genuinely perfect but the second half drags a bit which is why I don’t have it 5/5, wish I could give it a 4.5/10 but this will do.
Fantastic album. Musically I was hooked start to finish. However, so many of the songs felt like, “stop what you’re doing and party with me” which was pretty good until he was singing to a girl that he was going to expose her affair to have her all to himself. The bass was killer though.
BEST SONGS: - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - Off the Wall - It's the Falling in Love
I enjoyed this more than I expected I would. No song is bad. The worst song on this album is either the closer or Girlfriend, and those are not even bad. They are good at the minimum. I favorited 60% of the album but I favorite songs that I go “oh hell yeah” to. The other songs are groovy and I could get down to them, just not like the rest. The best song on this album is Rock With You by miles. That synthesizer is just so nostalgic for me. Definitely keeping this in my collection.
hell yeah
This record deserves its place on the list for its obvious cultural significance and tbh the first couple of songs are still great. It’s just hard to get past Michael’s creepy backstory. PS - Today (Feb 2026) I learned that Michael Jackson’s pet chimp, Bubbles, is still alive and well in an ape retreat in Florida. So there’s one happy ending to the MJ story after all.
Not my favorite Jackson, but so ahead of its time. Comparing 'girlfriend' to the original is a perfect example. The hits are undeniable
Classic
Very nice
Solid
One of his best albums, first 2 are pure bangers
I was 11 when this came out and, though I loved the Jackson 5 when I was growing up, by age 11, I had been conditioned to hate disco. And, this being a disco album, I never heard this beyond the hits off of it. In some ways I like this better than "Thriller." It doesn't have the rock cross-over monster hits but it has a unified sound of disco/R & B that I can really appreciate now. And, just for "Don't Stop til You Get Enough," this one is 4 stars. Add to that a bubblegum pop song written by Paul McCartney and a song written by Stevie Wonder, great session players, and first rate production from Quincy Jones and you get the album that paved the way for "Thriller" and superstardom.
MJ at his funkiest. I love Dont Stop Til You Get Enough, one of his best songs with a really irresistible groove to it. This is pretty top heavy, with the first two tracks easily being the best here, but I enjoy it all. If more of his discography had this sound, I'd listen a lot more often
This was one of my favorite albums so far. It loved the disco music, especially Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, Rock With You, and It's The Falling In Love. I liked how there was a peaceful, different vibe with She's out of My Life. Great album!
Un buen disco. Extremadamente musical, pop, teatral y con letras icónicas. Me gusto, no había escuchado todas las pistas de este disco y lo disfrute. Mencionar. además, las tremendas colaboraciones que tiene, artistas top. Buen disco.
7/10
Not his best, but phenomenal nonetheless the less
Bangers
70’s Pop ⭐️Off The Wall
Awards Toe tapper Bustamove Multihitter Easy pleasy
It’s funky and has some of the classics. You can’t help but dance.
Really like this one. Very groovy. The first half feels like it’s the 80s and I’m dancing at a nightclub. The second half feels like I’m dancing with someone. MJ’s voice is astounding in this. 8/10 songs added to ear candy.
It simply can’t be anything less than a 4
This is probably my 3rd or 4th Michael Jackson album (I came of age during Dangerous, so that one holds a special place in my heart), so the fact that this is still an easy 4, maybe even a 5 star album is impressive. To me, I don't love it as much as others because despite the first two tracks, it feels like it's still living in the shadow of disco. Although it's still enjoyable, it's just not doing much to be original for me to be super impressed by it. The beats are good, his singing is great but beyond "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough," which is about a solid a dance tune as you get, and "Rock with You," one of his all time best, it's just a solid album and nothing more.
The start of Jacko's amazing four album run.
4/5⭐️
fun! some bangers. bass goes crazy
The vibe is cool and strong and the producing is great but for me, the 5-star Jackson songs are the likes of Dirty Diana and Give in to me. Anyways, great album.
186/1089 the album has this great blend of late 70s/early 80s groove and then some very Disney-esque moments like She’s Out of My Life i mean it’s MJ, it was a great album, not sure how much i need to go back to it necessarily but still it’s cool knowing for myself now that he was definitely not just a singles artist faves: It’s the Falling in Love, Girlfriend, Off the Wall, Rock with You 70/100
Michael Jackson's Magic Hands
Fair enough album. Still really a pop singles artist
Starts strong with solid dance floor worthy funk and disco beats before transitioning to a slower more relaxed vibe. You can start to hear the "familiar" Michael Jackson rhythms and intonations most associate with him taking shape. Solid album with 20 million copies sold, a feat any artist would be proud of. Amazing to know the follow-up would sell over 3 time more copies.
Kevy likey
Ist ok aber hat bessere
What a great and fun record to listen to, you can really hear the influence he had to the funk/groovey sound. Even if you have never listened to this album before, you have definitely heard a handful of the tracks off of this album. I’m not the greatest Michael Jackson fan but I can 100% appreciate his influence and how good these tracks are. For me however j do feel like around the lower middle of the album is does seem to fall off in energy and I felt like I was looking for the original energy back, but it does shine a light on his versatility
Gostei mto mas tem umas musicas fodase ent slaa
A very worthy album for the list. Hard to listen to without moving your body! Great mix of upbeat dance tunes and some slower numbers. 4
It's not Thriller, but it's still great. 4/5
It's a prime black Michael Jackson album, you have to be boring not to like it I'm sorry. I feel like this was his first hugely successful solo album and you can see why. There's some proper funky tunes in here you can't help but have a little boogie to whilst listening but, there is also some more heartfelt songs as well. I really do think it's a great album with a range of songs, first half is better than the second I feel like maybe the order of the songs could be shuffled a bit. Regardless I think this is a really fun and emotional album. It was really refreshing to get a change from rock as well which is what I've had so far, standout songs 'rock with you' , 'dont stop till you get enough' and 'it's the falling in love'
This one is right up there with Thriller. Arguably better musically IMO, but certainly not as impactful. I could see putting this in semi-regular rotation personally.
Workin' Day and Night is INTERESTING. She's Out Of My Life is beautiful. The album is frankly pretty fire.
I can separate the art from the artist. This was really good.
You can tell he was smitten when he wrote this.
love it
Regardless of how problematic he became, early Michael Jackson is undeniably good music.
I loved this album already
Ai sim, hein! Vem um grande potencial por aí. Já começa com o famoso WOOOOOOWWWW UHAUHAHUAUH. Música do Video-Show da Globo. A segunda música dá uma nostalgia, me lembra umas músicas do Ragnarok. Álbum bom, vibes da hora, faz ficar balançando a cabeça o álbum todo. 4*
Half the songs from this album was everywhere when it was released. While the other half of the songs don't have good hooks or really good beats, and are carried by the more known songs. This was Jackson's first album away from his brothers. What a firm step forward with strong hints to the phenomenon to come.
Groovy! The title track is awesome.
I Wanna Rock With You 1001 Albums Generator 202 (1/9/2025) Off The Wall is largely considered the first great Michael Jackson album. Featuring massive super hits Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough and Rock With You, as well as hits in Off The Wall and She's Out Of My Life, it was the first ever album to produce 4 top 10 singles. Personally, if I had this on vinyl, the A side would probably be worn down from play. There isn't much to say about the first two songs, which are two of MJ's finest ever. Workin' Day And Night is so funky with those tight horns in the background and Get On The Floor has this slapped bassline that is so poppin. The title track opens the B side with real magic, but the album unfortunately kinda falls off a cliff from here for me. Girlfriend is so bad and I really don't like the slowness of She's Out Of My Life. Burn This Disco Out is certainly a fine ending to the album that definitely redeems it some. The first collab between Jackson and Quincy Jones has some truly magical moments and hints at the further greatness to come, but there are some flaws in both song selection and pacing. 3.5/5, rounded up to a 4. Favs: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough Rock With You Off The Wall Least Fav: Girlfriend
Might be my new favorite MJ album.
