Deloused in the Comatorium
The Mars VoltaA bit Muse-like in places. Nothing special.
A bit Muse-like in places. Nothing special.
I love the Zutons!
Not a must-have album
Epic!
Epic!
Not for me…
Not sure how this made it onto the list…
Dreadful album
Yawn.
Ok
Quite easy listening - not a classic but fairly middle of the road.
Quite relaxing - it gently washed over me…
Truly awful album.
Mmm…not my mug of coffee…
Great album - really impressed with this one!
Minimal talent here.
Fantastic - real musicians. After five seconds, it was clear this would be an excellent album.
Epic album! You can literally feel the time in which it was made.
Crap
Different!
If I was in the ‘60s, sat in a field, toting in a doobie, this album would have been awesome. However, today it felt dated.
Interesting…
Awesome album. Forgot how great it was, and how much the band then evolved over the years.
Not a greyProg fan but this was ok.
Wow - love this album!!! How cool is it?!? Knew within 5 seconds that it would be good, but not how good. ‘City, Country, City’ is superb!
Kill me now…what a pile of shite.
I quite like Billy Bragg - this was a decent enough album. Don’t feel the need to hear it again for a few years.
Mmm…different, I suppose.
Never listened to this before- loved it. Though of my good friend Nod, and I could see him dancing away to it!!
Fantastic! Have rediscovered Peter Gabriel.
Off the scale! An album of epic proportions, forged when giants truly ruled the planet.
Another incredible album this week. This is such an intricate piece of art - really like it.
Thought this album was pretty decent.
A bit too trippy for me…
I quite liked this.
Brilliant!
Like being immersed in your own adult film from the 1970’s…
Didn’t like it then, don’t like it now. Very…blaahh.
Is Vic Reeves singing on this album?!?
Immense!
Interesting - maybe a grower??
Mmm…average…
Very different and I think I quite like it! A bit wailing in places, but there’s some great Melodie’s in there as well.
A really interesting album - quite aggressive at points, and I liked it!
Much better than I remembered it to be.
Still not sure Dylan is my thing, but I can see his relevance in music culture.
Welcome to Jazz Club…
Do you know, it wasn’t bad. Would have got an extra star had it not been for the utter murdering of Norwegian Wood at the end… Unforgivable.
Far out…
Classic! (I was, momentarily, transported back to Daley Thompson advertising Lucozade…) Such a milestone of an album, laying the foundations for a band that’s still doing it over 49 years later.
A genre described as ‘Tango’ wouldn’t be my go-to, but I really liked this album. Great musicianship and layers of sound. Pretty decent!
Some genius blues plus a few disgust tracks - still a great body of work.
A bit Muse-like in places. Nothing special.
Dull as…
An album of its time, I think. Quite enjoyable and a band I hadn’t heard of.
I actually quite liked this album. I read about it in my fab book (Cheers, Pete!) and it kind of makes more sense. Pleasantly surprised.
Pretty classic stuff. You can almost smell the room with its ‘relaxing scent’…
Still one of the most impressive albums ever made. Absolute classic. ‘Shoot To Thrill’ is an absolute highlight. Having seen AC/DC a number of times, I can confirm they are world class!
Dreadful
Not sure I have the words for how bad this is…
You know what? I didn’t know this album and I was really hoping to be wowed by it. I wasn’t. Grunge dirge.
Really quite average.
Loved this! I ended up listening to it 3 times on the bounce. When you think if what was around at the time, I think this album is genius. Might just listen to it again.
Absolutely love this one!! Killer opening track…
What a beautiful album. I have never given it a second glance over the years so was massively impressed when I heard it.
Apart from a couple of commercial pieces of bubblegum pop, this album is blah, blah, blah…
Epic! Battery is a killer opener and from then on, nothing lets up. Orion is a really different track, highlighting the skills of Cliff Burton (played live it sounded awesome) and you can see why it’s considered a classic.
Not convinced…
Yawn…
A but trippy…
If o was stuck on a desert island and had only one album to listen to, it would be Dark Side Of The Moon. For me, it’s the most complete piece of audio artwork ever created. When I saw David Gilmour play at The Royal Albert Hall, I wanted to hear two songs specifically. One, obviously, was Comfortably Numb. The other was Breathe. I wasn’t disappointed by either. As a journey through our lives, this album sets out key themes (birth, death, money, aging…) and every time I listen to it, I hear something new. It’s so multi-layered and beautiful, and uplifting, and saddening. My all time go-to album.
Interesting - in some ways I quite like the multi-layered approach of the album and it was certainly slightly ahead of the curve at the time. (No need to revisit it, though…)
I’d never heard of DJ Shadow before but I was fascinated by this album. I listened to it 3 times and I want to hear it more.
I love the Zutons!
Wow!! What a stunning album! I believe this was Stevie Wonder’s 16th studio album, in 1973… It really dignified a change in America at the time - there’s a story about him taking journalists on a bus ride, blindfolded, so they could listen to the soundscape like he would, and then to listen to the album blindfolded as well. Intense stuff. Brilliant album.
For me, this is the album that showcases what Nirvana could have been…there are some beautifully stripped back songs on this album but you get the sense that Cobain was moving away from things. Hearing occasional sighs between tracks was definitely a sign of what was to come.
Fair play to the man who has 125 albums and holds a Guinness World Record for it. Let’s just say, this wasn’t for me.
Struggled with this one…
When you listen to Dre, you know what you’re going to get. Bitch.
Quite a pleasant listen.
The ultimate in a debut album. Gods of heavy metal.
After listening to this, I nearly did…
Some good tunes and a great throwback to the 80’s!
Beautiful album.
Aaah…George Michael…(I went to the same scout troop as him, I believe) Much missed - lovely album.
Mmm…nice background music
I quite liked this - not my usual choice but it was pretty decent.
Cool guy!
Loved this album - what a great (smooth) voice Al Green had!
Quite enjoyed revisiting this album after many years of not hearing it. I don’t feel the need to rush back to it, though.
I like a bit of punk from time to time. Bit too punky this time.
Fantastic album - and a great live act. I’ve seen them in concert quite a few times now and they don’t disappoint. Probably the best gig was in The Fleece & Firkin in Bristol, which only holds a couple of hundred people. Justin did some guitar solo while the rest of the band stood behind the bar, and I shook hands with Rufus Taylor! Spandex-tastic!!
Classic - one of the finest bands to come out of England. Love this.
The title says it all…
I had forgotten how good this album was. Certainly a turbulent time for the band so when Mutt Lange became the producer (I believe) they were in safe hands. Seven big hits off the album - some achievement! I still have the CD that I bought as soon as it came out, with cuttings from rock magazines at the time! Must dig it out and have a read sometime…
Some wonderful songs on what is a bizarrely constructed album. So odd, it seems to work. I think…
Funky - not sure what else to say…. Not heard of it before. Love the title of track 4 - Supergroovalisticprosifunkstication!
Such a cool album! Must have been mind blowing to hear it for the first time!!
Well…thank you for this one! Would never have played anything like this before, and I’m glad I did!
Not my cup of tea.
Never heard of them. Hoping to forget them.
Enjoyed this.
I can genuinely appreciate the talent that the musicians on this album have. But…I let it okay out like background music as it didn’t do much for me, personally. If it’s your thing, fill your wellies.
Genius. Not always the easiest listen, but what a pioneer.
Great talent and there are actually a number of very good tracks on the album. I appreciate Mike Oldfield’s musical ability, however…some tracks feel dated and rather cheesy now. (Pop that one back on the shelf for a while…)
Good to hear a proper Elvis album. This was recorded, I believe, post-army and there are some wonderful blues tracks on it, Elvis almost going back to grass roots. Really like it.
Absolutely love this album - such a unique band and some banging tunes. Whenever I’ve tried to sing like Anthony Kiedis, I sound more like Vic Reeves, club singer!!
Quite enjoyed this.
Pass.
Le Hip-Hop François… ce n’est pas pour moi.
Rather boring…
A bit proggy…
Loving a bit of a funky album!
Great album. I wonder what ever happened to them…
I was a bit hesitant, I must admit, when this came up. I had a sense of, ‘I can’t be bothered’ - but I’m glad I did listen as it’s a really intriguing, and calming, album. Thank you, 1001albumsgenerator!
Just too proggy.
Dust off your bongos, and settle down with a niiice doobie fir this album…
Do you know what? This was a lot more diverse and eclectic than I thought it would be. There’s some great musicianship on the album. Nice one.
I’m sure it was groundbreaking at the time - quite pleasant now…
Rather enjoyed revisiting this album. Some great tunes - saw them support U2 on one of their tours. Guy Garvey was so overwhelmed that he forgot the words to the opening song!
Just didn’t get it.
Yawn…
Never been a huge fan of Green Day but this is a pretty decent album.
Ok
Never really got into UB40 but this is actually not a bad album. Might even listen to it again. One day.
Not the easiest listen for a Fleetwood Mac album, but there are some great moments. You can sense the tension in some of the songs- must have been quite the ride.
Not necessarily my bag but it was alright.
Odd
One of the greatest rock albums of all time. After the dodgily produced ‘And Justice…’ album, Metallica needed a big hitter and they don’t come much bigger than this. I remember being at university, buying the cd single for ‘Enter Sandman’ and having my mind blown! (I’ve got a feeling that the ‘B’ side was ‘So What?’ - a punk romp through expletives. Love it!) And Sandman was played at full volume across the campus!! When the album came out, it was even more mind-blowing. It cemented even more my fanatical devotion to heavy rock. Brilliant.
Really enjoyed this, another great Aretha album.
Absolute classic - a beautiful example of art in musical form. Definitely setting the standard for other artists, as Bowie did throughout his lifetime. Amazing.
A bit too bland for my liking.
I get it, but it’s all rather folky-twee.
Now, this is not normally my kind of thing, but I did enjoy it! I think mainly due to taking me back to the time I was at university and this sound was big at the time. Not too shabby.
Just one of the best live albums ever made. A sad reminder of the loss of Phil Lynott - but what a ride he had along the way!
Love this! I have never heard Sam Cooke live before, only ever the typical songs played on the radio. It feels like a cool atmosphere to have experienced.
Well that was a trip down memory lane - and nowhere near as bad as I remember it!
Loved the first song, then a spiral of depression enveloped me and I put on The Struts to cheer myself up.
Good ole time country rnr!
Not as depressing as I remember. I never took to The Smiths but as I’ve got older, I am less resistant to them, especially as I think Johnny Marr is pretty cool.
Whinging, whiney, crap.
Even better than I remember it back in the day. It’s aged (Paul) Well(er). Apologies.
What can you say about one of the greatest albums ever made…? To keep it brief, this is an exceptional piece of artwork. I listened to the 2018 Super Delux edition - the ‘extras’ are outstanding. Other bands must have been weeping at what the standard had been raised to with The White Album. Stunning.
Such background music, I’m not sure I even really heard it. So I’ll give it two stars because it obviously wasn’t hugely offensive.
Pleasant enough but no need to listen again for another 35 years.
(Sigh…)
Love this album. Very tender in places and probably my favourite Neil Young album.
Really enjoyed listening to this - better than I remembered it.
Pleasant enough - I can imagine watching them at a festival, with an ice cold beer in hand.
Underrated and overproduced…
Thoroughly enjoyed this one!
Some of the most childish lyrics I’ve heard. Utter nonsense and an album I don’t need to listen to again. Ever.
I had forgotten how good this was. A right old stroll down memory lane…
Eagles were a great band with some decent tunes.
Listening to this through a decent pair of headphones made for a brilliant journey through this classic album. There are some storming songs on here - how ahead of his time (musically, artistic, visually) was Jimi Hendrix? When you have Lemmy as a roadie, you’re the man…
After listening to this, I can’t honestly say life had improved significantly…
I think it was pleasant enough - it sort of came and went…
Mmm…
What can I say?!? One of the greatest, groundbreaking rock albums of all time. Epic.
Welcome to Jazz Club…
I’ve never got The Grateful Dead, and I didn’t get this album.
Title says it all. What a joy to listen to this album, in full, in the order it was designed to be listened to. Pure class.
(Yawn)
First two songs were ok. After that, I couldn’t tell what was playing…
Not what I was expecting (apart from the obvious BG pitch and tone) and I was pleasantly surprised.
Quality! Love the inclusion of Carlos Santana!!
A bit folky in places, some good instrumentals. Liked it.
Great album, although I remember it being much more rocky…
Mmm…
What a good album - really chilled.
Such great memories of ‘Jesus Built My Hotrod’! The album in its entirety is a juggernaut of hardcore tunes. An acquired taste.
Absolute, total and utter masterpiece.
Cool album.
Cool album.
(Yawn…)
I think I wasn’t in the right frame of mind to listen to this one but I recognise its worth…
Bonkers! Loved it!!
Bonkers - liked it.
Far better than I ever remembered this to be.
Just epic.
What an interesting album. Not normally my thing but I found it intriguing - a great one to include.
Pretty good - Pete, I know you love this band. (I’ll give it an extra star for that reason!)
Better than I remembered.
I absolutely love this album! Listened to the deluxe version, twice. It’s not at all what I’m into but there’s real artistry in her work. I have heard, on good authority, that she is quite the live performer. Impressive album.
“Y’all (don’t bother to) come back now, y’hear?”
Average
Cool album - well funky!
Like a scene from ‘Snatch’..,
I’ve only ever heard bits and pieces from Ryan Adams, so it was good to hear an album in its entirety. Pretty decent.
When giants walked the earth…. This is the stuff of legend!
I’m pretty sure it was the same song being played for the whole album…
Groundbreaking in many ways, but…has it stood the test of time…?
Considering the line up of the band, this should be so much better.
Still an absolute classic - when you’ve got a hatful of songs that are comparable in quality to the title track, you’ve got it all. The album Springsteen said he wanted to make so that everyone would remember him. Job done, Boss.
A change of gear from yesterday’s classic Springsteen album, today’s is the epitome of cool. Sinatra doing what he does best. Timeless.
After track 1, it was all a bit blah..
Absolutely love this album - I’m going to order a copy now!!
Corking!!
Didn’t really know it was playing…
Wanted to like it. Didn’t.
I really liked this album - very pleasantly surprised!
Much better than I thought this would be. Some banging tunes.
Very good - you can loosely smell the atmosphere in the room!
Welcome to jazz club…
Weird shit…
Eno is odd but I did quite like this album.
Makes me smile thinking of Nod loving this!!
Beautiful album - such a delicate tenderness to it.
Although Ska is not really my thing, this album was pretty decent.
One of my all time favourite albums! Some absolutely stonking tunes from the band. Goes to show what you can create when you don’t have half of Peru up your nose!
God save us from anything resembling this in the future.
Great!!
Great if you only have time for one album in the whole day! How long?!?
Obviously, ‘More Than A Feeling’ is imprinted in all our minds, but this album seems to have escaped me. It is, however, quite a belter and worthy of four stars. (Might just listen again…)
Didn’t think I would enjoy this as much as I did.
Not surprised they only made two albums.
