All-time great
Great
Perfect
I mean you can easily make the argument for this being the best album of all time.
One of the greatest albums of all time. Not a single song is a mistake or misplaced. This is how you do albums
I was expecting to like this album and I liked it even more than I expected.
Everything under the sun is in tune but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.
Awesome
They're really trying to get me back into this lol. I'm very familiar with this album I've listened to it front to back countless times. Probably near 50. It's a 10/10 album for me. Not much else to say!
Fantastic album with Standouts in Breathe, Time, The Great Gig In The Sky, Money and Eclipse.
So this particular slice of perfection comes with incredible depth, particularly considering how young the band were when they put all this together. I sometimes like to imagine that they didn't even create this album, but "discovered" it somewhere in their heads, waiting to be recorded. It's just too good for mere humans to have made this. If I was doing scoring properly, this would get a 5, as it's perfect from start to finish, but the dozen or so other albums I already ranked 5 would all have to be reduced to 4 stars.
An album that deserves all the dick riding. So grand and loud but also quiet and empty. Everything seems so intentional, even the tracks that are nothing but empty space find a way to belong. Fantastic, spacey, cavernous, psychedelic
One of my tops of all time!
C'mon, it's a banger.
Easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Speak to me - 7/10 Breathe(in The Air) - 8/10 On The Run - 7/10 Time - 10/10 The Great Gig in the Sky - 10/10 Money - 10/10 Us and Them - 7/10 Any Colour You Like - 7/10 Brain Damage - 9/10 Eclipse - 9/10 TOTAL - 84/100
Absolute masterpiece
Nice
so so
Masterpiece
Great concept album filled with songs that stand strong alone.
It's dark side.
Unquestionable 5.0
Well, no need to listen before commenting on this one - Dark Side Of The Moon has been a 5/5, 10/10, top-tier, all-time-favorite, desert island record for me since high school.
Five stars. If I’m honest though, it’s because I want to love it, not because I really do. I almost love it though, so I’d rather round up from 4.5 than down. I don’t have critiques or anything like that, it’s just kind of an ugly puppy is all, you know? It’s basically about the terror and madness of life and they’re kind of too good at conveying it at some points. I’m glad I gave it another listen through and surely will again, but just not one I’d often put on.
one word - wow. if you haven't already heard it yet, you need to get on it asap. Every track is a bonafide classic
Classic. Huge influence. Nothin but good shit.
One of my favorite albums, changed my life back in the day.
Masterpiece. I loved every song. The instrumentation, lyrics, SFX, all of it was great!!
I listed to this album first in high school so conjures memories and feelings of being a depressed and socially awkward teen. Which isn't fair to the album, as it is breathtaking.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Classic.
Classic album for a reason
Pretty great album, starts bit slow and melodic but the middle is incredible.
Truly one of the greatest albums of all time.
One the absolute best
yes
There are albums, and then there are timeless classics. Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side of the Moon" undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. It's not only one of the most iconic albums in history but also rightfully so. From the moment you press play, you're taken on a mesmerizing musical journey. The seamless blend of rock, progressive, and psychedelic elements creates an otherworldly sonic experience that transcends time. Each track flows into the next, forming a cohesive and thought-provoking narrative that explores themes of life, death, and the human experience. The album's groundbreaking use of sound effects, innovative recording techniques, and Roger Waters' introspective lyrics make it a true masterpiece. "The Dark Side of the Moon" isn't just an album; it's a profound work of art that has left an indelible mark on the music world. Its enduring popularity and influence on subsequent generations of musicians are a testament to its greatness. It's an album that continues to captivate and resonate with listeners, and for that reason, it rightly stands as one of the most iconic albums in the history of music.
the best
All time great
It’s been a long time since I’ve listened through this record of really heard anything off it. Coming at it with fresh ears and putting aside any jaded preconceived notions about popularity or context, it really hits hard as a beautiful piece of art. Even the oft-referenced iconic album artwork pairs perfectly with the record and adds to the experience. Every song is great, and even the less-structured interlude pieces (Speak To Me and On The Run) are constructed so deliberately they fit into the narrative of the album. Waters’ lyrics walk us through life from beginning to end, while musically the band punctuates each track with soundscapes which tell as much of a story as the words themselves. This is an album that thematically describes the shared experiences each human has taken for granted as being a sort of mundane fact of reality, but pairing it alongside these sweeping arrangements and epic, ethereal climaxes really drives home how miraculous existence is. For me, the “secret” sauce in Pink Floyd is David Gilmour. Roger Waters takes lead vox on the closing Brain Damage/Eclipse suite which is undeniably fantastic, but this album really grabs me because of Gilmour’s versatility, both in his smooth vocals and incredibly mastery of the most pleasant guitar tones ever put to work. Long story short? Sometimes something is extremely popular because it is extremely good. This is a deeply moving, masterful piece. I’d be surprised if at any point in life I’m able to revisit this without beginning to well go by the time the soaring sax part on Us And Them comes in. Thank you, 1001 albums, for briefly freeing my irony-poisoned brain and helping me enjoy listening to popular music again.
Masterpiece
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Time (4) 2 - Us and Them (7) 3 - Breathe (2)
Very little can be said about this album that hasn't been said a thousand times already. From the opening beats of Speak to me to the final notes of eclipse this album is 5*
Was never much into Pink Floyd, but after listening to this album twice today I have a newfound appreciation for them
GOAT
Pink Floyd jsem kdysi považoval za značně vyhypeovanou kapelu, ale jejich série alb ze 70. let mi postupně přirostla k srdci a tenhle kousek obzv.
Perfect
a lot more psychedelic than I normally listen to but cmon it's pink floyd. It's a classic and for good reason - it's weird and conceptual and makes me feel like i'm high and in space but strangely, it still works. I'm a sucker for the more musical songs like Money but the strange and funky instruments and sounds are so intriguing. Love the way the vocals are produced too btw. Overall, just a good ol' classic.
I first listened to this album early in highschool when I had a big progressive rock phase. I had liked a lot of the more technical Prog like yes and king crimson so I decided to give this one a go. found it boring. I spontaneously decided to relisten to it again last year. and then I listened again. and again. and then listened to most of pink floyds discography. it feels kind of basic but this album is just so good.
Total banger.
Is it possible to go higher than 5 stars? This is just a perfect psychedelic rock album. I am not even a Pink Floyd fan and this is just lush, well constructed, anthemic, and timeless.
fuck yeah
One of my all time favorites. Over the years, I've had this on tape, CD and now vinyl. I've done the dark side of the rainbow, of course. Total classic.
Nice background music. Some tracks are very instrumental which I like.
I have always and will always love this album. Visionary, beautiful, unique; it has a voice and it's not afraid of indulging in itself. Infinitely listenable.
Its an experience I love how all of the songs are made to fade into each other
one of the alltime bests
absolute masterpiece
Didn’t have to listen because I’ve heard it 1000’s of times, but did anyway because of course
Already knew I loved it but I was due for another listen
Fun fact: on this listen, my record player was stuck and I didn't realize it, so I started it four times and eagerly awaited those familiar pulses four times before I realized. Also my player was on 45 rpm throughout all of "Speak to Me". This is why siblings shouldn't get to borrow your record player over the summer. Anyways the fact that I already had this album on vinyl should start to clue you into my opinion. Fun fact 2: By coincidence I also happened to revisit the last two tracks of Division Bell today. Now THAT'S a weird one. Album #1. Was pretty nervous about this project seeing as I've tried similar large-scale music discovery initiatives before and they haven't persisted long, and this promises to take almost four years, but when I clicked the button and saw this album I let out an audible chuckle. What are the chances that the album most often crowned as the greatest of all time should happen to be my first review? DSOTM requires no introduction, not to me or anyone else. But while I'm here I'm tempted to reminisce about my history with Dark Side, if not Floyd as a whole because that would take much, much too long. But I can tell you how I remember first encountering Pink Floyd through this album on a sleepover with a friend in fifth grade, putting it on shuffle on Spotify and laughing off the confusion. Buying it on vinyl at Best Buy in sixth grade and listening to it with my mom, and being jump-scared by the chimes in "Time". Putting it on one time when I was sick and younger, lying down on a couch and falling in love with music. I now have eight dusty Pink Floyd records and two posters in my childhood room. My middle school yearbook quote came from this album. I wanted to name my dog Floyd. To this day, I cannot enter a busy airport and not listen to "On the Run". I've ignored Floyd a lot in recent years--probably a reaction to how pretentious and obsessed I was with them previously, as well as current Roger Waters--but you can't deny this. Probably not Floyd's best album, probably not even their most significant cultural impact, but this was formative. Looking forward to this project, which I now realize will involve a lot of looking back, which I'm learning to be okay with. Wish I'd something more to say, except bring it on.
“The Dark Side of the Moon is a little like puberty: Feel how you want about it, but you’re gonna have to encounter it one way or another. Developed as a suite-like journey through the nature of human experience, the album not only set a new bar for rock music’s ambitions, but it also proved that suite-like journeys through the nature of human experience could actually make their way to the marketplace—a turn that helped reshape our understanding of what commercial music was and could be.” Perfect description. This is what I truly think this list of albums to hear before I die was made for.
Pas le meilleur album Pink Floyd mais un des meilleurs de tous les temps 6/5 si je pouvais
One of the classics and best Floyd albums.
Love it, one of the best!
Should be in the top 10 of everyone's favorites.
Don't think I'd ever listened to the album as a whole before, absolutely great, a classic for a reason.
Masterpiece!
A masterpiece that still holds up after 50 years.
Oh you bet. Let's go spegettio
was already a favorite album though. :)
Classic
hell yeah! another one i know!! i mean on this album there is "the great gig in the sky" i cannot rate it any lower
This record is an absolute masterpiece. There isn't a bad song on it. It's one of those records that feels like such an experience even time you listen to it. Flawless.
5 out of 5. Great album from beginning to end.
Easily one of the greatest albums ever recorded.
Epic album!
Great depth of sound and fluidity between tracks. One of the most complete albums I have heard.
Already loved this album.
Time-Great Gig in the Sky-Money is such a good 3 track run it's actually unbelievable
This is an all-time great. Innovative use of samples and synthesizers and reverb and whatever studio techniques aside, this is a profoundly emotional album. Where psych records can often feel muddy or just stoned, Dark Side is immersed in a clear feeling of longingv for or grasping at something, not in spite of but amplified by its dreamy nature. The reverb and production and sampling and bouncing pans all give the feeling of bewilderment, while the lyrics and the composition drive the clear emotional content. Breathe longs to relax. Time vacillates between a dead and a yearning regret. The overall theme lends itself to the oft-stated theme of mental illness (or the pressures of being a young band expected to both rebel against society and also comply with its wishes for more music). The hearts of the songs exert themselves to express something totally clear, but the echoes and the voices clamour for our attention, too. In the end, bursting through the sonic maelstrom and the deeply felt malaise, Brain Damage/Eclipse makes triumphant peace with itself, and perhaps with the band's relationship with its industry, and even their old friend, Syd: "If the band you're in starts playing different tunes, / I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."
Awesomo
A prog psych masterpiece that is as great as it is ubiquitous.
Nothing else left to say about this record. A perfect 5 if there is such a thing.
Unsure on whether to give 4 or 5 stars, think it will only grow on me the more I listen so have given 5. A timeless sound
I love Dark Side Of The Moon and think it deserves every bit of praise it gets, not much to say on it that hasn't already been said. This is also a revisit for me since I have heard it before and I think it was even better now than the last time I heard it
its dark side of the moon. what more is there to say
Some would say this is the greatest rock album ever recorded. One could argue the point, but it's without doubt in the top five.
BEST!
Can I give it 10 stars?
Beautiful amazing haunting. I accidentally got way too high before I rode my bike to target to wander around and listen to this and have some alone time. It was an experience lol. Very interesting juxtaposition. I love this classic
Considered one of the best for a reason. Theres nothing else like it. Timeless
It may not be in my top 5 of best Pink Floyd albums, but the groove and feel of this epic album is an emotional rollercoaster of sounds and feelings. Everyone should have to listen to this album at least once.
Very good
Legendary prog album.
Hard to pick the standout tracks here because all are awesome and they follow one another seamlessly.
Alright... I'm sold. It's a classic.
I mean duh, it’s Dark Side of the Moon
Easily one of Pink Floyds best, if not the best, albums in their catalog. 5/5
Great album
classic innit?
One of those albums you can get lost in, which is a very rare thing these days.
Monumental, smooth prog. What's not to like?
This album is so ingrained into the classic rock genre. If I went a year without listening to a single song from the album, I would be fine with that. It's not that I'm sick of it, it's just always around. Every piece of this album is a classic moment in time for me. I've played it so many times, and there's a reason it's been overplayed. But to be fair, some DJs would put on side 1 or just side 2 so they could go take a break for 20 minutes: bathroom break, pot break, whatever. Even so, they couldn't do that if the music itself didn't hold up. As much as Waters wants to release his "own" version of this album, it was an effort with the entire band. He didn't do it alone. It was definitely the sum of its parts to make a classic rock masterpiece.
I have never listened to this album from start to finish, though I've heard many of the songs on the radio. Wow. It is the definition of seamless. The way all the songs on side one blend together, and ditto on side two. Masterful. And incredible when you think that DJ's put individual songs on the radio and they still sounded great without their connections to the other songs. I always thought the sound effects on Money (even Time) were a bit much but not when you hear the different effects and loops together in one go. Those pieces were some of my favorite parts of the album - the effects in On the Run maybe being the best of all. And the whole theme/concept and the lyrics are incredible. This is songwriting at its finest. Probably my favorite Pink Floyd album of their big three.
Any time an album I know inside and out comes up on the 1001 albums I still give it my minimum two listens. In this case, I listened to the 50th anniversary remaster in Dolby Atmos. It sounds amazing. As to reviewing the album, it's one of those where so much has been said, but I'll throw in my thoughts anyway: It's an absolutely perfect album, start to finish. Sure, the instrumentals can get a little out there, but they work too. We start with Speak to Me: the iconic heartbeat, "I've been mad...", the money sounds, the laughter, the building machine noise, the screaming...and then we begin. Breathe is a beautiful mood with outstanding lyrics ("For long you live and high you fly, but only if you ride the tide / and balanced on the biggest wave, you race toward an early grave"). On the Run is certainly the strangest track, but it maintains the mood that makes this album a journey (and the sound was pretty groundbreaking). Time is absolutely amazing, with one of my favorite Gilmour solos. Again, Waters' lyrics are excellent ("And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking / racing around to come up behind you again" - such imagery), and then we return to initial mood with Breathe (Reprise). The Great Gig in the Sky is breathtaking - Wright's beautiful piano composition coupled with Clare Torrey's amazing vocals. Her singing evokes such imagery...I heard it once described as the five stages of grief in vocal form. Money is a classic rock staple - gotta love a hit song in 7. Us and Them is beautiful with incredibly powerful lyrics (and a great sax solo). Any Colour You Like is a groove that takes us into Brain Damage and Eclipse (which MUST be played together). Brain Damage gives us vivid imagery of madness, followed by Eclipse - a song that gives me chills EVERY. FREAKING. TIME: "And all that is now / and all that is gone / and all that's to come / and everything under the sun is in tune / but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." So amazing. Then of course, the final line: "There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact, it's all dark" and the fading heartbeat. Absolute perfect classic.
Water is wet.
the fivest ever
Of course this is a perfect album. What more can I say? Personally, I prefer Wish You Were Here and think it's a better album but that just tells you how good Pink Floyd were at the time.
It’s Dark Side of the Moon. If only someone could make Roger Waters realize that so he’d stop messing with it.
Classic
easily one of the greatest albums of all time
Perhaps the greatest album ever recorded
Down and out It can't be helped But there's a lot of it about With, without And who'll deny It's what the fighting's all about Out of the way it's a busy day I've got things on my mind For want of the price of tea and a slice The old man died One of the top 10 best albums of all literal time. In thousands of years, this will still be remembered as a great human achievement. 100/5
Easyyyyyyy
It's hard to say anything novel about this album. I'll just say that it always hits harder than I expect, given all the hype. But ya know... it really is that unique, especially when you situated it within its historical context. It's a true classic. Even the art is some of the most important, influential in pop music history. I don't even know how to approach evaluating this "objectively". It changed the world dramatically before I was even born.
one of the greatest albums of all time - listen to it at least once a month (if not more) The older you get the more poignant 'Time' Becomes
A pretty good weekend
I don’t think there is anything I can say that hasn’t been said. It deserves all the praise it gets and more. Perfect.
Perfect album
BEST SONGS: - On the Run - The Great Gig in the Sky - Us and Them
Absolutely amazing from start to finish. the details and almost story telling sends chills throughout. it was incredible and no complaints!
In 1998 J and S and I rented Wizard Of Oz and queued up the lion's third roar then hit play on this CD. It was trippy, man. For real. Do it. The album that's almost become a meme. Two or three of the big songs are probably playing on your classic rock stations at this very moment which completely kills the vibe of this album listening to a one off of Money followed by Aerosmith and .38 Special. Gak. It sounds completely different and wrong when shuffled in with other 70s songs. This is an album in the truest sense - I hear or think of it as one 45 minute suite. Play it in it's entirety, at high volume or in headphones and don't stop it. It is that good. Rather, all-time great. 10/10 epic 5 stars obviously.
4.5/5 almost perfect, very few flaws
One of the best records ever produced. I can still remember listening to „money“ for the first time. A great experience
Is any explanation even needed? I have considered 'The Dark Side of The Moon' to be my favorite album of all-time for quite some time now, and a re-listen only solidified that opinion. I don't even know where to start talking about this album. Just listen to it. All in one sitting, no interruptions. I think then you'll understand how I feel about it.
Any album that is closing in on its fiftieth anniversary and still charts is an easy five-star.
GOAT
The Dark Side Of The Moon is one of the most seminal psych/rock albums of history. Centred around the ideas of madness, with themes of conflict, greed, time, death, and mental illness. Built upon experiments from previous live shows and recordings, cohesively pieces, across the two sides of vinyl, continuous pieces of music. The first exploring the nature of the human experience and the second highlights the common traits shared by humanity, namely mental illnesses, conflict and personal relationships. By modern standards the hyped psychedelia of the album is a little overhyped in my opinion, however I can certainly see that this album has paved the way for modern psychedelic rock and trance. I enjoyed listening to this album in it's entirety for the first time and would love to have this sitting on my vinyl shelf. Best: Money Worst: Speak To Me
didnt even need to listen, this is clearly a 5
It’s been a very long time since I’ve listened to this one and on a re listen it is truly a beautiful piece of work; the transition between tracks, the eb and flow, it just works. Plus the base line in Money, the singing in Great Gig, and the guitar solo in Time are amongst the best of the best. Then you get the perfect finish with Brain Damage/Eclipse. Easy 5 stars.
its just good start to finish
It's so rich with memories, so full of talent, and such a masterwork that it can be difficult to revisit. The memories were full of joy, so much so that I miss them now.
Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” is proof that a prog rock concept album can be done right. It clocks in at just 42 minutes, and “Time” is not just an amazing song but also something that Pink Floyd was the master of. The longer tracks don’t wander aimlessly for too long, instead being built with purpose. From the stark and iconic cover art to the space created by the opening and “The Great Gig in the Sky,” it is an excellently crafted piece of rock music.
Sonic nirvana.
This album lets me know that prog rock, when executed well, can be amazing. It’s hard to put into words what has been accomplished here. The only criticism I have is that Money has been massively over played. It’s a great song, but like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, I’m not nearly as excited about it as it deserves due to over exposure. I don’t listen to Pink Floyd much anymore and I enjoyed Money this time round. I don’t think I can pick a favorite song off this album. Of them all, I feel Time encompasses its concept perfectly. Between the constant ticking of the toms and the lyrics I feel as though I’ve experienced the full breadth of a life, a retrospective time lapse sequence, in less than 7 minutes. “No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun” is such a fucking brilliant line, invoking a sense of regret. And for it be followed immediately by Gilmour’s mind blowing guitar solo!!! Gilmour is the master of the bend and he puts it on such a display here, like treasures artifacts in glass cases at The British Museum. I could go on and on, but I’ll spare you. Top 10 album of all time for me no doubt.
✨🌈💎🌈 ✨
Classic, and it get's better with every listen
A go to
Not my first listen Peak classic rock Lyrics are existential but beautiful Love the song transitions Interview segments add to the atmosphere Favourite tracks: Time, The Great Gig In The Sky, Us And Them, Brain Damage, Eclipse
One of Pink Floyd's best. "Us and Them" is my favorite.
Speak to Me- N/A Breathe- 4.7/5 On the Run- N/A Time- 5/5 The Great Gig in the Sky- 5/5 Money- 5/5 Us and Them- 4.8/5 Any Colour You Like- 4.3/5 Brain Damage- 4.7/5 Eclipse- 5/5 Total: 4.8/5
I mean come on, it's Dark Side
Capolavoro
Saying outstanding is simply not good enough.
5 star album, no question. This record made vouch a big impression on me. I was seventeen when it came out, and i used to listen to it on my headphones constantly. The chiming clocks at the start of Time seemed to me, to be the most awesome sound that I’d ever experienced. Fifty years later, I’m 67 and it still sounds bloody fantastic. Should be taught at schools all over the land, so the poor little sods don’t have to listen to some of the garbage we all have to endure in 2023.
The epitome of the perfect album. Not much else to say.
Normally I'd be a lot less interested when an album has all these cerebral, self-indulgent instrumentals that sound like filler, but not so much when they actually elevate the rest of the record, which already sounds so lush. As an entire body of work this is really strong. Sort of like a greatest hits album where you have several distinct hits, but even better because here, every track fits so well with one another to create a complete experience. It's atmospheric, sonically diverse, and has a lovely sax too. This transcends music - it's art. As pretentious as that sounds, it's true!! And those transitions between songs? Sublime.
Glorious. Best PF album. This is an easy 5. The only thing I like more on this list than an easy 5 is a surprise 5.
Stone cold classic. I've loved this album since I was a kid. I've listened to it countless times over the years. Some people say it's overrated, but I think it actually is the best Floyd album (The Wall is the overrated one) Those Gilmour/Wright harmonies. While they are perhaps better known for their prowess with their respective instruments I absolutely love the their voices on this album. What can I say? This has been a favorite of mine for close to 30 years. What a streak I've been on. 3 5's in a row. I'm probably in for some dreck now.
Peak
One of my top three favorite albums by my favorite band. This was a easy five-star
What can I say? A rich, deep album that let's you skim the surface or dog deep into lyrics and instrumentation. Love it!
I mean everyone knows this album by the cover at least. It's one of the few very iconic albums and I think that it is a good album. It's good, very good to say the least but it's nothing more. It is just very good but doesn't achieve the greatness of other albums even Pink Floyd ones. Both Wish You Were Here and Animals are better. Only a few songs achieve the greatness of other Pink Floyd albums like Wish You Were Here or Animals. Those songs are Speak to Me/Breathe in the Air, Great Gig in the Sky and Brain Damage/Eclipse. All in all the album's not what I would consider a 10/10 or even a 9/10 Not bad but very very overrated. But because I give the next best star if a part is started and this would be 4.25/5, it's 8.5/10 (5/5) Best Song: Speak to Me (yes it's my fav.)
Fantastic album
gay triangle
Maybe my favorite album ever front to back.
One of the finest albums ever recorded
A classic.
Certified classic
The album to listen to as a whole. This is a very well designed album, they are putting a lot of thoughts into building the spacy psychedelic feel(The woozy sound effects, some sparse instrumentals). The use of sampling might be a little bit too straightforward, but using them in rock music was really ahead of its time. I wasn’t paying attention to the lyrics at all, tho. And the cover art is one of the best. 4/5
It's just a stone cold classic album. No filler, artists at their peak, beautifully composed and recorded.
Do I even need to say anything?
Cream of the crop of amazing music from the 70s. Timeless and mesmerizing.
I can definitely see why this is a must-have album by a lot of critics. My first listen and it was a good one. 5/5
Great album!
brilliant album, brilliant songs, brilliant cover. legendary album, legendary songs, legendary cover. i can talk about the greatness of this album for a very long time, but i won't, i'll just say again that it's great. added tracks: full album fav track: all 10/10
Shouldn't need to put anything here. It's only one of the more influential albums in rock history

Legendary. All time favorite.
Classic alert! Half of pink floyd fans seem to call it their best album and the other half call it overrated. One of their best albums in my opinion, not much else to say.
In fairness, is there _anyone_ who doesn't like this? *lol* (Wish You Were Here is better 😂😁)
Goated

As much as I'd love to play the contrarian this is essentially flawless. Anything that continues to hold up, both in society and to you as your music taste develops and changes, is damn impressive. Fav track: time
I need to listen to the album with my headphones on and without any distractions. It's a masterpiece.
Listening to this album feels like an Event. It can't just be some background music. Sure, you can play it way too loud late at night at house party, but that'll make you conflicted if you really want to scream over the music to talk to other people or just listen. I consider that an Event too.
Truly great album. That was my first time listening this album from beginning to the end without interruption. Music is great, I love those vocals (especially synced vocals). It's just perfect.
9/10 Poggers
Well Roger Waters turned into an obnoxious apologist for this century's biggest war criminal so far, & the 67 year old man doesn't worship this album as the 17 year old boy did, but it's still up there with the very best.
It DSTOM
Fantastic album. The lyrics are some of my favorite of all time. Reminds you to be here now, live joyfully in the moment, and to remember that all your perceived problems are insignificant in the grand scheme.
Another album by the Floyd about the futility of life, greed, conflict, mental health, and mortality. You could pretty much cut and paste the previous sentence and use it to describe most of their albums. But while you would never call DTSOM (or the Floyd in general) uplifting, it’s still excellent, with its universal themes of existential angst set to an immaculately produced, rousing, and concise set of songs which are as relevant today as they were in ’73.
Couldn't have be randomly generated a better album for 4/20
One of my all time favorite albums. Always great to revisit.
Drugs don't make Pink Floyd great. Pink Floyd makes drugs great.
I can't really add anything to what's already been said about this legendary record.
This is the first album I’ve been generated that I’ve felt a little intimidated by. I’ve never listened to the album in full before, but I know that people have very strong opinions on this album and how good it is. I’m a little scared that I don’t like it then there might be a hit put on me! But let’s listen, and see how good Dark Side Of The Moon really is. Songs I already knew: Money Favourites: Breathe, Money, Us and Them I’ve always loved when songs bleed from one into another seamlessly. I like how it gives an album the feel of one whole experience, rather it being just a bunch of songs. This is an album with that experience in abundance. The music isn’t quite as strange as I was expecting (I’ve previously listened to The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn which was really wacky) and has plenty of memorable hooks, whether that be on piano, guitar or vocals. Overall, I feel that this album is genuinely deserving of the ample praise it gets.
One of my favourite albums of all time. It is top 3 albums ever made. The cohesiveness of DSOTM is absolutely incredible and is landmark in the world of popular music.
Dark Side Of The Moon doesn't really have hit songs, it doesn't even really have a genuine hit. They wrote Money as a double V to the record label and publicity pressures. I respect that. Let's talk what make this rekid one for the ages. The organ and piano. The vocals of Clare Torry. The interplay of guitars. The vocals of Clare Torry. The way each song flows from one to the next. The vocals of Roger Waters and David Gilmour. The vocals of Clare Torry. This was a groundbreaking album written as a whole experience. And people got it. Especially the reverb and guitars, and the vocals of Clare Torry.
Not all of it hits, but the bits that do, really do. The musical and conceptual themes are quite magnificently integrated.
What is there to say. It's insane that this is the most popular and most recognized album of all time. If something like this came out now it wouldn't even chart. While not the most challenging listen, it demands so much more of the listener than today's godawful mainstream rock music. It's simply on a different level. This album is very emotionally intense and you can feel how genuine it is in the music. It's lush and dense with a lot of different things going on, the songs perfectly run together to create a feeling of being lost in the sound. The lyrics are perfectly vague enough as to not spell everything out super clearly and let's you have the intelligence to understand them. It's a timeless album that will always hold up. And this isn't even Pink Floyd's best album Score: 100. Art: 100 Personally not my favorite art of all time but it is literally the most iconic image in all of music
I see the rainbow triangle, I upvote. I doubt I can add anything to the conversation that hasn't already been said about this record. It's an experience and everyone should listen to it front to back. It's considered one of the greatest albums of all time and it might not even be Pink Floyd's best. Absolute Faves: Time, Us and Them
Great atmospheric start. Songs flow together really well. Musical composition great. Beautiful songs. Great bass playing.
Why even ask? Dark Side of the Moon is one of the most classic of classic albums. It's innovative use of tape loops and samples (typically only seen in experimental music at the time) set the pattern for music today. It also rocks hard. Half the album is still in heavy rotation on most classic rock stations and college and high school students still buy it. Dark Side of the Moon still holds the current record for most YEARS on the Billboard Top 100 Album list. It is literally the stoner soundtrack of the 70s and beyond.
LP
Absolutely perfect. One's quibbles have to do with things like the length of "Breathe" and "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" (all of which are too short). The sax and guitar solos on "Money" are perfectly complementary, making a song that could have been seriously stupid. "Us versus Them" is as pretty a song as any rock band ever devised. The production remains a wonder 50 years on (see "Any Colour You Like"). And what more can be said about the closing cut(s)? They've not lost an iota of their power and are a strong contender for greatest rock song ever (the actual title cut of the follow-up record is, too), with its/their gathering orchestral crescendo, gospel backing vocals and Biblical-philosophical lyrics. One knows more or less every note and still feels challenged and uplifted, n the way of great and timeless art.
It spent 937 weeks on the Billboard 200 - 18 years!
Classic
perfection.
easy 5
Never gets old!
Easy 5 stars. I've listened through the album dozens of times and enjoy it equally each time. Perfect.
One of my favorite albums. Easy 5 stars
What can I say that hasn't already been said about this album? The song-writing, instrumentation and overall flow of this album are immaculate.
very really good. haven't listened to classic rock in a very long time so i was going in with medium high expectations. one of the things i really love about this album is that it's lowk ahead of its time, but it still has that early 70s late 60s classic rock sounds. i also think that this is a very cohesive album that sticks to its theme and communicates a well written story. the way the track flow together and connect gives me immeasurable joy. the vocals are this album are great as well. i mean the great gig in the sky is on here soooo. but even on other tracks besides that one, the vocals push the song further and idk add on to it in a good way. sonically, this album is fucking amazing. i think even if you're not into classic rock, its hard to hate this album. anyone who gives this album less than a 7.5/10 is out of their mind and just wants to be different so bad. or they don't understand music and the impact pink floyd has had on the world and a shit ton of artists. 5/5 can understand why it's a classic. has some strange warmth to it.
Perfect.
I appreciate this more at this age then I did as a kid
5 stars, kind of a surprising rating as I wouldn't say to anyone that this is one of my fav albums. But it's obv great.
Classic!!
One of the absolute GOATs
I love Pink Floyd. While Rogger Watters is a shit person he is great at lyrics, especially for this album. (with that said thank goodness for gilmore is a wholesome person). This album is a all time classic. I remember listening to it for the first time and being absolutely blown away. The idea of covering classic ideas such as money, war, & time is timeless. The sound of the album feels like your on a interstellar space ship traveling across the stars, where those classic topics are as relevant as ever.
"I can't think of anything to say I think it's marvelous" I'll see you on the dark side of the moon!
Despite the enormous reputation of this album, it was better than expected. The artistic creativity behind the song-writing is astounding; as is the fact it was made in 1973. The only gripe I could possibly find is that a few of the songs are extremely similar, which makes a few of them sink below the others. Overall: a true work of art.
What an amazing album.
Easy 5. Definitely one of my favourite records ever. This time through I was really struck by how confident and bold the main guitar line is on Time. David Gilmour really was a bit of a visionary.
It's fucking Dark Side. Recently read a conspiracy that the album is supposed to be played B side first then A side: Starting with Money and ending with Great Gig in the Sky. Listening to it like this definitely changes the tone of the album and is an interesting approach to something I've listened through many times. I'd recommend it to any long time listener as its easy on Vinyl and easier with modern services
This album is so iconic, I don't even listen to it anymore... I was afraid to play it tonight. So often I dig up some landmark album from my past and the bubble is burst, the magic is gone, and the memory is tainted. This did not disappoint me at all. Nothing in the world sounds like Dark Side of The Moon. The band was blessed at this particular moment and I am thankful.
Genuinely adore this album. Not gonna use this as a platform to slate Roger. Nor am i going to listen to the anniversary version, cos that twatnozzle has farted his spoken word nonsense all over it. thanks, ya jerk
What do I say about this album? This one was in my older brother's record collection in the 70s and was one of the few that I liked to listen to. I was also fascinated with the cover. "Money" was my favorite song. I bought it on CD in the early 90s and definitely tried to sync it with "The Wizard of Oz." It's simply a perfect listening experience from beginning to end and always has been. Even though it had been years since I listened to it, it's so burned into my brain that I wouldn't know what it was like to hear it for the first time.
I have listened to this album many times. I credit this to my bestie…I am thinking she even had a Dark Side of the Moon poster in college…I was otherwise not cool enough. At any rate, this is an ultimate album experience!!
I listened to Dark Side on 8-Track a lot in my teens. Today brought back memories of doing math homework stretched out on shag carpet. There are still parts of this album where I fully expect to hear the music fading out, followed by the ka-thunk of the tape changing tracks, and the same song fading back in. The lyrics certainly hit my 54-year-old ears differently than they did at 14. I'd never actually understood much of "Us and Them" and reading the streaming lyrics today nearly knocked me down. (Instead, I looked up to see a baby with giant blue eyes staring at me and we held each others' gaze for a good minute on the bus. That was intense.) I'm relieved and grateful that this album is still as good, if not better than it always was. It does not seem dated, does not feel tired. Every fall on the college campus where I teach, as the kids are settling into their new dorms, there are always Dark Side posters on display at the pop-up poster sale on the quad. I take some comfort in the fact that the teens too still find it good.
Apple’s notes for this album say, “Dark Side of the Moon is a little like puberty: Feel how you want about it, but you’re gonna have to encounter it one way or another.” I’ve finally reached that moment. I know a couple of these songs. I’ve heard parts of the album playing in the background here and there. I have never listened to this album from beginning to end. It only took me 50 years to get here… Timeless, classic, incredible. A long-overdue addition to my favorite albums.
Certainly a top 10 album of all time.
Disco más importante de Pink Floyd. Vinilo.
Een van mijn favoriete albums sinds de 1e keer dat ik het luisterde.
Easy 5 stars. This isn't just an album. It is an experience and a masterpiece of art.
Today's album was the second Pink Floyd album I've gotten on this generator. This is Pink Floyd's 8th studio album, and it is another concept album, based on the pressures faced by the band during their busy lifestyle, and loosely touched on the mental health issues of former band member Syd Barrett. This is the first of Floyd's albums not to feature Syd, and instead to have David Gilmour on guitar and co-lead vocals. With the departure of Syd, the one noticeable difference is the lack of long acid induced guitar solos. This album is much more concise and direct than its predecessors. I love how this album flows together into one cohesive song. Also the way it starts and finishes with a heartbeat.... Leading the listener on a rollercoaster ride through the life of someone who grows up, chases money, and battles mental illness. It is absolutely phenomenal, especially the song Time. Overall an amazing album, and one I have heard before, and will definately listen to again. Favourite songs: Time, Money, Us and Them, Brain Damage, Breathe (In the Air), Eclipse Least favourite songs: If forced to pick, Speak to Me 5/5
Oh no. I wanted to be brief but all of this juts came out of me.... Not time to edit. Review dark side of the moon - pink Floyd Wow. The English can do something right after all. :B∆) It's remarkable this was a 1974 concept album that still holds up - IMPRESSIVE. A definitive one. It's an experience all right. You aren't gonna sit and listen to a whole album very often, but this would absolutely have to make the top10 list. It's the 4th nuggets seller of all time. And spent more than 800 weeks on the charts Earlier Pink Floyd albums - by comparison - are just earlier (lesser) formative experiments into music and soundscape excisions. And this one has a female vocal bit. And what a on amazing improvisational moment it is! This is the Masterpiece. It was in the top 200 for more than 900 weeks, and it's still in the top 20 charts for Vinyl after 50 years. I just listened to it twice through. 1 on big speakers. I forgot how huge their sound and emotional range is. 2. Big headphones - even more immersive. And impressive. And not at all tiring. If I had one word for this long review it's simply “Wow”. Make no mistake, it's full psychic and sensory journey and soundscape, this is a “concept album” - intended as a sit down experience front and back. Not for the singles! like many of this era, yes, it is commentary on many things (there were issues here album encountered with insanity and conflict and greed and the loss of Sid Barret - but very different to Back in Black, it's about a genuine creative who can't function any more in their world) so it's also on alienation, connection, search and insight, including imitating what drugs (probably at high doses) and we definitely gets a sense other forms of rapture - physical, sexual and spiritual - are like, and pleasing forms of anaesthesia and numbness (more of that on their next album). The transition from track 1 to 2 being very much the onset or “ rush “ of a drug. And there is the languid yet EPIC Pink Floyd sound. Even people who haven't had drugs can tell, this must be drug music. They paint quite a picture. A side note: cannabis - for context - in the 70s and 80s was much more relaxing and feel good (and less of a high). It was very high in CBD with a fraction of the THC of today so it would have felt more mellow. A beanbag and a pink Floyd album and good company was all you needed back then. So much better than the other Pink Floyd albums I've encountered on this list so far As a 50 something year old who doesn't actually own a copy, all I can say is it just sweeps over you. And I remember my first few listens to it well - it's quite amazing. And you don't need to be high to enjoy it. This is one of their top 3, with 'Wish you were here' and maybe 'Momentary Lapse of reason' being essential listening too. Especially on headphones. P.S. I never saw them “in concert” but I did hear them from a stadium 5 Kilometres away in 1990 and it was, well, “wow” then too, it was so loud and clear, filling the sky. The twilight seemed to go on for hours and hours. Maybe it was the stadium lights. And there actually were flying pigs. True.
holy shit
One of the most impactful albums in my life, and one of my top 5 personal favourite artists. Its funny, today I was suggested this album, and on the sunday I am going to watch aussi floyd (cover band) and roger waters the coming month.
The Dark Side of The Moon
listened to again a triumph
A masterpiece. Pink Floyd synthesized everything they had done at this point and created a magnificent piece of progressive rock.
The greatest album ever?
As unimaginably brilliant as ever.
One of the albums you expect to be on this list. Classic.
What's to say that hasn't been said?
OK Roger's a left wing whacko. I am too when it comes to being anti-war but we can agree to disagree on many of his views on capitalism. As a result, I really like Money but Us and Them is my favourite song on the album. Who hasn't played the air drums to the drum bits at the start of Time?. Clare Torry makes the song "The Great Gig in the Sky '' but I can't agree with giving her songwriting credit. The lyrics throughout the album are relatively easy to figure out although the talking between some of the songs is a mystery. What on earth is a fader eleven? (mumbled at the end of Time)
Whan can I say about this album that hasn't been said already? I will try: It's a brilliant production by Alan Parsons (Money listened to with headphones is still unbelievable). Pink Floyd asked AP to produce Wish You Were Here but he was too busy putting together the Alan Parsons Project debut LP. As a side note, no APP albums made it onto the 1001 list. There's a song on the 1972 album Meddle called Echo, that takes up an entire album side. If you listen to that song you can hear the roots of songs from DSOTM like "Time" and "Us and Them" in the harmonizing of David Gilmour and Richard Wright. Anyway, what kind of score do you give an album that since its release more than 50 years ago, still pops up annually in some county's sales charts?
I've been putting off listening to this album for the past few years because I wanted to listen to it with "fresh" ears when it eventually came up on 1,001. Well, after 723 albums it's finally arrived in my inbox. This one is actually difficult to review because what can I say that hasn't already been said about it before? After listening to it I am reminded that yes, this is a monumental album that basically changed (prog) rock forever. I don't give out 5 star ratings too often because I basically use this album as my 5 star reference point, and not too many albums can legit compare to it. Only Sgt Pepper, Ziggy Stardust, Kind of Blue, The Wall and Wish You Were Here immediately come to mind. This a truly iconic album that your really need to listen to before you die.
The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth album by English rock band Pink Floyd. It is a progressive/psychedelic rock concept album that focuses on the themes of the pressures that the band faced during their career & lifestyles at the time of the end of the 60's & early 70's. These themes are conflict/struggle, greed, time, death, birth/rebirth, and insanity. This is one of the most critically acclaimed records ever, as well as best-selling, and is the band's most commercially successful. It is certified 15 times platinum in the US and was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress in 2012. I now see what all the hype about this album was for. This amazing piece of music is beautiful and timeless. It deserves to be one of the best albums on all the various album lists out there. I loved it, although I do wish it was longer, and perhaps had a few more "rockin" songs.
One of my top 5 albums of all time. This is the best case scenario for boomer music. I could talk forever about how good this album is and all of my favorite bits. I think my absolute favorite moment of this album is in Time towards the end when everything slows down and he starts to talk about being back home. The guitar at the beginning of this part is so interesting and the synth/organ parts fit the mood perfectly. An absolute masterpiece of an album that is already a staple of my rotation. Favorite tracks: Time, The Great Gig in the Sky, Breathe (In the Air), Money, Brain Damage into Eclipse Least favorite track: Speak to Me
It's dark side of the moon cmon
Amazing. Classic. Anyone that's into music enough to be on this site knows what this album is about, so I feel like I don't need to explain anything about it tbh. 5 stars.
What can be said that hasn’t been said a million times before? An album that really benefits from high-quality gear. I listen to this about once a year (since I was in high school), and I make a point of listening when I upgrade sound gear. Amazing early use of analog synths in a natural way with the guitars and voices. After all this time, still love the stirring vocal on Great Gig and the sax on Money.
I think 5 stars is too little. What a brilliant album! 10/5
This is it. This is an absolutely perfect album. The album art is 10/10. The production and mixing is 10/10. The lyrics, melodies, dynamics and overall songwriting is 10/10. The only argument against The Dark Side of the Moon is that it has been played and praised to an extreme. But just how in the world did this end up being one of the biggest commercial hits ever? The lead single is in 7/4 and it's not like Pink Floyd was a household name across the globe in 1973. The songs do not have traditional structures, a large part of the album is instrumental (and not just sweet guitar stuff), and it doesn't exactly lend itself to sing-along parties. And that's exactly why I think this is a perfect record. It has broad appeal independent of the listeners musical preferences. It doesn't rely on specific hooks or gimmicks which might alienate some people. It just exists in this perfect timeless space of universal themes and perfect sound. Even for Pink Floyd, this is not standard stuff. Oh, and Alan Parsons did all of this before turning 25… Jesus.
A lot have already been said about this. So I won’t waste too much time. Everything about this record is just Pink Floyd at their best - which automatically makes The Dark Side of the Moon peak rock as well. I could listen to the four songs starting with “Us and them” and ending on “Eclipse” for the rest of the year and never grow tired of it - absolutely, astoundingly beautiful. Also, the 30 quid spent on Clare Torry might be the wisest money ever spent.
Used to love this record but haven’t heard it in years. The clock sounds always annoyed me. It really does hold up as a great record. It sounds amazing and is brilliantly engineered and mixed. The phaser on the backup vocals on time is so cool. On the run is trippy now but people must have really had their minds blown when the synths do that Doppler effect thingy. It’s a concept album but the main theme is like the Em to A type jam that happens in a few of the songs. The ability to take that kind of standard 2 chord vamp and get that kind of mileage out of it is kind of genius. The playing in the loose jammy parts is pretty tasteful and actually leaves a lot of space for the textures to come through. Some really cool slide guitar and organ stuff on this record. I like how big and full it sounds with the sax and backup singers.
So much I could say. A perfect record. Every song is a masterpiece. This was one of the first records that made me want to play music.
A top 3 Pink Floyd album
This album is a classic for a reason. An absolute masterpiece start to finish, amazing compositions and performances by everyone involved. One of the great concept albums.
Simply a progressive rock masterpiece. I actually prefer Another Brick in the Wall for its storyline but this is easy a 5/5 album also.
It’s not an album I listen to often but it’s an undeniable 5/5!
Unbelievable album. I've been listening to this since I was a kid.
I always thought Money didn't quite fit with the rest of the album, but it is a minor quibble. As an albums it is a masterpiece. 5 stars.
Nothing to say that hasn't already been said. Pretty close to flawless.
Brilliant concept album. Sonically great. It’s true — it syncs perfectly with the Wizard of Oz if you start it when the MGM lion roars.
Just excellent all around. Pink Floyd here took what the Beatles did on Abbey Road and pushed it to the next level. There are multiple singers and songwriters but it all feels cohesive, the instrumentation is perfectly executed (loved the sax on us and them and they keys and guitar on any coloring you like), and the whole thing feels epic without going over the top. This was one of my fist close listens to this album alll the way through and it’s an easy 5.
One of the best albums out there
Spreekt voor zich.
Anyone who gives less than 5 stars deserves to be deaf. Anyone who gives less than 5 stars because Animals, or WYWH, is their favorite PF album, should be slapped. Judge it on its own merits or gtfo. That's my rock snobbery for the day. Happy holidays, everyone.
i don't think any of the teenage white guys wearing the album cover on a t-shirt really get just how fucking fantastic this album is i went to laser floyd with my family when i was like 8, because my parents are weird and took their kids to a thing they used to go to in the 70s. i remember being enraptured and a little scared. the "encore" song that they picked for our show was "brain damage." the red lasers that formed images of axes and blood flash back in my brain whenever i hear that song, and sometimes when i hear this band in general. i love it and hate it all at once. up until pretty recently, i was bored by this album. not by floyd in general, they have albums that are better than this one (shoutout animals and atom heart mother). i was bored by it, probably partially because it was so popular and i heard it a whole hell of a lot growing up, but i also don't think i really got it either. there's a lot of quiet introspection on this very loud record. there's something so understated about some of the lyrics, juxtaposed with the experimental and loud sound. so many first-time listeners are blown away by how it sounds, and less about what it's saying. there's fairly easy concepts, like the entirety of "money." a song like "time" is also not complicated but gets more and more emotional the later in life you listen. but the music isn't to be discounted either. the bass line on money is SO SO iconic, yet so so simple in its delivery. the vocal performance from clare torry on great gig in the sky never fails to make me tear up. there's so much to love musically about this album, but that's just not what it's about. this is a master work, especially for the time it came out. i am no longer bored by dark side of the moon, because i looked past the music and into the soul. david gilmour is a pretty sick guitar player tho
Great album, loved the analogue synths and the typical "Abbey Road" production sound on this album.
Didn't even need to listen to this one, but I did anyway. Personally I have more of an affinity for the Roger Waters albums/songs, but this is another all-timer and another super easy 5. A record on constant rotation when I first started listening to music (what boy didn't have a protracted classic rock phase) and no surprise that I still love it now as much as I did then. Also, Time > Money, please don't @ me. Standouts: The Whole Fuckin' Album, God Damn
In the case of the People vs Prog Rock, the defense would like to call a surprise witness to the stand. Indefatigable.
This album is just so chill and ethereal from start to finish
Our first true classic
A story: It was around springtime of my first year of high school. My girlfriend of nearly two years had broken up with me. Being only young, this was pretty devastating. Coupled with the fact that we had a shared group of friends, things were a little too awkward for me to bear. Lunchtimes I would go for a walk outside, sit in solitude, and eat my lunch in peace. Was the melting of the snow, it was actually kind of nice. My main form of escapism was music, so I divulged. My best friend in these moments quickly became Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon. The Dark Side Of The Moon was the first album to truly blow me away. It was in the details: the perfect simplicity of the album art, the seamless transitions the lead to it's excellent pacing, the layers that made up each song and sound. If there was ever an album to set the bar in my little still-forming brain, it was this one. In a lot of ways, Pink Floyd still set my expectations for what I consider a great album. Things like pacing, consistency, variation, and general production quality are all things I would consider when listening to any album. These are things that The Dark Side Of The Moon does so well in every capacity, I think I ought to owe it some more gratitude. Overrated? Not my place to say. It's just a personal favorite.
Incredible. Wish I could listen to it for the first time again
Auténtico discazo de rock conceptual, con verdaderos temas bien construidos y melódicos
If anyone gives this under 5, they were born without a soul
5/5
One of the best albums of all time. There’s more to it each time I listen. The hard values of life and what it means to understand them wrapped in an album. Pink Floyd had an ability to make songs impactful and the instrumentals match in their own way. This album is just perfectly well done. 10/10
What can I say that hasn't already been said? I needed this after many days thinking up positive things to say about albums with 2-3 good tracks and obscure World music I know I should appreciate. This is so good it makes me cry. In another 50 years this album will still be adored.
Up there as a benchmark for the best. More than a collection of songs, it's a fully realized album best heard in its entirety.
There's no point pontificating on an album that has been dissected 9 ways to Sunday. Call it whatever you want, it's an album that sets a highwater mark and can be listened to as individual tracks but the entirety, under the influence or not, is an experience everytime.
One of the best pieces of music I've listened in my life.
All time great album
when i first listened to this, i just didnt get the hype. it was good, but nothing phenomenal. and then i took a tab for the first time.
Had never listened to the whole thing in one sitting until now. The instrumentals are ethereal. The vocals are so smooth and pair extremely well with the tone of the music. I can definitely see why it is considered a classic. It's extremely difficult to pick a favorite when they all sound so heavenly. The Great Gig In The Sky made me feel like I was in space. Loved the cathedral-like instrumentals in the beginning of Us and Them. Fave track(s): Money, The Great Gig In The Sky
This is in my top 5 favorite albums. It might be the most perfect album of all time. The vocals, the variety of sounds, the timing and pace are simply amazing 👏 🙌
a must listen
One of the best albums of all time. Classic.
Awesome album
Here's another album that it feels weird to rate. I spent so much goddamn time listening to this album while stoned in my dorm room during my sophomore year of college that it's hard to go back now and try to hear this album with fresh ears so that I can properly evaluate it. I've heard it so many times that it's too familiar for me to be objective about, but I suppose that's okay. The reason why I listened to it so much is because its a great album. Everything about it works and works together. The lyrics, the music, the samples, the flow from song to song. All of the ways in which The Wall feels a bit overwrought are smoothed out here. It's examining mental illness and other dark aspects of humanity without self pity, which is the thing that makes me dislike a lot of what Roger Waters produces. This album is a full-throated examination of the agony and the ecstasy of modern life without ever stopping to ask "Why me" and I think that's why its so enduring. That and the music. Alan Parsons should have won a Nobel prize for his audio engineering on this album. It's mixed so exquisitely. It's like every single sound falls perfectly into the pocket where it belongs. 5/5
Easiest 5 stars!
Still brings tears to my eyes.
I love this. Happy to have finally listed to this
Been long time since I've listened to this but God DAMN does it hold up! Starting to realize this may have influenced my musical tastes more than I realized because everything I like about dark, moody music is present on this LP.
Pink Floyd is yet another massive band that I never really listened to outside of the most popular songs. However, I really enjoyed listening to this and pretty much every song was amazing. I can see why this is such an iconic album.
not much can be said, amazing
Did I need to listen to this again to rate it five stars? No. Did I listen to it again anyway? Yes. This album is magnificent. Kicking around on a piece of ground in your hometown, waiting for someone or something to show you the way. Yes - it is probably music for gadgies like me. I first heard this in the 1990s, as a teenager. And I thought it would never be me. But here I am, loving the album still. The production is superb. The music is superb. The guitars are superb. The vocals are superb. Everything fits superbly. If there were a list of perfect albums, this one has to be on it, probably quite near the top. I know I'm going to sound like a massive ponce when I say this, but listening to this album on a REALLY good stereo, in a darkened room, while sipping on a glass of port is one of the most heart-bendingly beautiful experiences one can have.
Seriously? Seven 1 star ratings?
