Man, this took me back. Mick Hucknell's vocals are soulful and land in the dead center of the blues. I listened to the whole album with pleasure.

It's like Tears for Fears if they fired half their band and replaced the singer with a screaming cat.
This is a gorgeous album.
He has no sense of rhythm and he sings way off key.

This album is very meh. There are a couple of songs I recognize from my youth, and two are decent tunes. But the rest are very predictable guitar blues tunes that never stray from the 3 chord blues structure. And they are all in the same key, so one song pretty much sounds like the other.
The instramentation and chord structures were very interesting. I liked the diversity of styles. However, the lyrics were pedantic at best and non-sensical at worst.
There were some very good songs on here, and I liked how diverse the sound was from one song to the next. A lot of the songs had great lyrics, too. Some songs didn't speak to me, though, and some were a little silly.
There are some excellent songs on this album, but there are some real duds, too. The lyrics are often dark, but well thought out (except for Alien Sex Fiend, I don't know what the point of that was). However, Shirley Manson has a very limited vocal range, and therefore all the songs are composed in the same key (or very close to it). This sometimes makes it difficult to distinguish one song from the other. If this site allowed for half stars I would give it 3.5.
Rush is one of those enigmas to me. They are exceptional in their technical skill. Their music is full of dynamics. Their lyrics are deep. Every single one of my musician friends loves them deeply. I don't know why they don't do it for me, but they don't. I think it might be because the lyrics are poems with music put to them rather than a song written with musicality in mind. Sometimes the song structure feels meandering. Other than that, they are great. I will give this album 4 stars. It's technically good enough for 5, but I don't like it enough to give it a 5.
This album is intriguing. Some songs are traditional Mexican canciones; some are very centered in Jazz. Most tracks are love songs, some have really vague lyrics, so I can't really tell you what it's about. Yes, I speak Spanish. Doesn't help. I like this album, but I don't see my self returning to it very often.
I've always been a little lukewarm on Fleetwood Mac, but now that I've really listened to Rumors and read the lyrics, I am a fan. Deep lyrics, fantastic vocal harmonies, and lots of diversity of sound, I really love this album!
His voice is gorgeous. And I like the diversity of sound on this album. I don't speak French, so I have no idea what is being said, but I can tell which songs are love songs and which are celebrations of the culture and life. However, this album is dated. All the sounds, including the artificial drums, places this album squarely in the early 90s.
This is the perfect example of 80s rock music. I've never been a huge Bon Jovi fan. They've got some bangers, but the lyrics are sophomoric, and the subject matter is full of tropes. I can't hate on it entirely, but I wouldn't have revisited this album on my own.
Talking Heads is groovy as f*ck! I love the music and the diversity of sound on the album. However, David Byrns' voice is weaker than normal on this album. It doesn't help the the mix has the intraments drowning out his voice. And, the lyrics are clearly poems that they put music to, rather than songs written with a melody in mind. Later albums were much better.
There wasn't a lot of diversity on this album (most songs were about lost love). There were two songs (Cloud Nine & Runnaway Child) that had a dark theme. I loved those songs. It's a decent album, but not great. Definitely not their best.
I was really looking forward to this one because I've heard good things about Queens of the Stone Age. All I can say is... meh. The riffs are repetitive. The songs are literally only 3 chords. All are between 120 and 140 bpm. And the lyrics are non-sensical. What is there to hold onto here? This album was boooo-ring!
I have heard a lot of David Bowie over the years, and this album is the worst representation of his music I have yet to encounter. Don't get me wrong, some of it was groovy, but some was uncoordinated wailing with disconnected instrumentation in the background. This seems to be a theme of this app, to take a decent artist and give you the worst album in their catalog. I hope the albums get better from here on out.
The musicianship is solid. The instrumentals are complex and varied. However, the lyrics are a word salad of what someone from another culture would consider rock and roll. Even though I would never buy this album, I'm going to rate it high because the band is so impressive.
Her voice reminds me of Natalie Merchant. Sometimes her style reminds me of Joni Mitchell. She has a great command of voice and a distinct sound. There is a very loose structure to the lyrics that lends to a meandering vocal style, which doesn't really appeal to me. Even though I don't see myself seeking out her work, I know she has a lot of talent. All in all, a decent album, even if it isn't my cup of tea.
This was a pretty decent album. The style is a cross of Depeche Mode meets Simple Minds. They lyrics were deep, though a little repetitive. All in all, a solid album.
This is a great representation of the music of the mid-late 50s. It's simple, but it has its groovy aspects and it's sweet aspects. I can see some of the songs used in films against a particularly violent scene, for irony's sake. All in all, I liked it.
This is a nice album of the protest movement in folk and rock music. The lyrics are deep; the melodies are well done. It isn't groovy, but that's not what they were going for. I enjoyed this album.
I hear a slight influence of AC/DC when Bon Scott was alive. They are limited in their range, but it was a cool album, nonetheless.
It's okay. I hear a lot of influences in the music from the Beatles to Daft Punk. And I like the complexity of the music. The sound isn't all that diverse over the whole album. The lyrics are okay, though a little vague. I like it okay, but wouldn't go out of my way to listen. I didn't add any of the songs to my playlist.
Spotify doesn't have this album.
Though the entire album sits on the darker side of the human experience, the diversity of sound is spot on. Hayden Thorpe's voice is absolutely gorgeous with a range and style that rivals Klaus Nomi. The lyrics themselves appear to be mostly non-sensical, but once I started to settle into the album I realized that the lyrics don't paint an exact picture, but an abstract. It doesn't tell a story but evokes the feelings of a moment, of a slice of life, of a tragedy undefined. I thoroughly enjoyed this album.
Fantastic. Adele's voice is so strong and robust. The album had a lot of diversity of sound. It was just beautiful.
meh
I like the effort, but his voice is really limited, and there isn't much diversity of sound. It's not offensive, but it's not good, either.
The music rests pretty firmly in the psychedelic rock genre, very reminiscent of early Pink Floyd. Bret Anderson's vocals remind me a lot of Queensryche's Geoff Tate. The songs are diverse enough to keep it interesting, and the musicianship is very good. All in all, a good album.
As usual, Adele delivers with this album. Her voice is so strong and unique, and she is very well-versed in the blues. The song styles are diverse, though the topic tends to stick with a "lost love" theme. I just really like everything she does.
I really love this album. It's just good rock and roll from way back in the day.
I love the black keys.
This album has a soft, transient sound to it. The lyrics are poetic and abstract, which isn't usually my thing. But they sync the lyrics and music to convey a reflective mood. I enjoyed it.
She has a limited range, but she works it well. There are lots of well-knowns on this album, and also a few hidden gems. Very nice!
It's super mellow and poetic but with electric guitars and distortion. I liken it to Harry Nilsson meets The Archies. It's good, it just isn't my thing.
YES! I love this album!
I enjoy the gloomy, minimalist sound. The vocals are not my thing. But I like the mood of the music.
It's like Tears for Fears if they fired half their band and replaced the singer with a screaming cat.
Beck knows how to use dynamics to enhance a song's impact. Great album! one of my favorites.
It's a type of groovy ambient music. It's nice to play it in the background as I'm working. It would also work as good music for an acid trip.
Wow. He has a great voice, and there's a dark strength to this album. I really enjoyed it. I'm saving this to my favorites list.
It's okay, not great. His voice is interesting, though not very strong or precise. The whole album sounded like every Elvis Costello song I've ever heard, to be honest.
Celtic folk tunes. It's cool in its own way, but I can't listen to an entire hour of it.
Prince is always a good time. I don't think this is his best album, but there are some great tunes here.
Damn, this is an excellent album. It's diverse, well-planned, great hits and fun B-Sides. Excellent!
It's a mellow, Portuguese-language album. At times it is reminiscent of the Beatles' Sgt. Peppers era, except, you know, in Portuguese. It's a decent album.
It's fun island music.
It's very reminiscent of the early 1960s Brit rock. While I like the beat and the overall sound of the tunes, the album isn't too diverse in style.
I really enjoyed this. Celtic sounds mixed with rock beats and bass. Good, soulful lyrics. And interesting voice. All in all, a good jam.
They remind me a lot of The Cure in the 80s. Solid.
Meh. It's dated and unimaginative.
This is the kind of music to play during an acid trip. Rhythmic, repetitive in a good way, off the beaten path. There are a lot of Middle Eastern vocals with undulating British club mixes. It's fun for background music.
Peter Gabriel is a genius. I love everything he's ever done.
They have some high-energy tunes that I liked, but their range is very limited. After a while, it all started to sound the same.
It's a good concert album. I'd like to have been there.
Genre: Jazzy rock Overall, it's a bit more mellow than I usually like; however, there is a solid groove to most of the songs. I found my toe tapping without meaning to. I enjoyed it.
It's not bad, but not a go-to for me.
Meh. There is very little variation from one song to the other.
It's like They Might Be Giants meets Bob Dylan.
Man, this took me back. Mick Hucknell's vocals are soulful and land in the dead center of the blues. I listened to the whole album with pleasure.
Very reminiscent of early 80s punk rock. I like it, but I wouldn't listen to a whole album at one time. This is music that needs to be put on shuffle.
Very basic rock guitar blues. Nothing special whatsoever.
It was very pretty.
The music started, and I thought, "This is really pretty." Then she started singing. She sings half an octave below her range, on purpose I assume, and she has no control of her voice. It sounds as if an emo teenager who didn't give two shits about singing was forced in front of a microphone. I hope the band is doing well.
I enjoyed it for the most part. Because my ears are not trained for the sound of Indian music, I have to take it a little at a time. Clearly, Ravi Shankar was (is?) a talented musician, and I plan to revisit this album.
I mean, it's Elvis. I'm sure everyone knows who he is.
I like the energy, but I can't listen to an entire album straight through. My ears are not trained for this type of singing.
Dance music. The vocalist sounds a lot like a young Madonna. Not my favorite genre, but they do have talent.
This is Depeche Mode's best album, in my opinion.
Great beat and a great bluesy vibe. Obviously, I don't understand the lyrics, but it's good stuff.
They are the predecessors of Flogging Molly and Drop Kick Murphys.
They're a good band, but a bit on the mellow side for me.
I mean, this is one of the best rock albums ever recorded.
groovy
She has one of the most beautiful voices of our generation. I could listen to her for days on end.
This is a lovely finale to Bowie's catalog.
This is the album that put Kendrick on the map. It's a great album, but not his best album.
French Hip Hop is my jam.
I don't like this one. Everything about it is discordant. The singer's voice is off-tune and gritty. They may do this on purpose, or perhaps they just aren't very good. I'm not sure which would be worse.
I like the sound but it gets monotonous after a few songs.
No thanks.
Mmm. Good memories with this one.
First song: 22 minutes of repetitive electronic music. "Fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn" are the only lyrics. The rest of it was good ambient music, but not something I would go out of my way to listen to.
It's like a French Tom Waits.
This is a gorgeous album.
Very pretty albulm
This is such a fantastic album.
His voice is flat and the music is boring.
Wow, it's been ages since I last heard this album. It's still great!
Meh. The band is good but the vocalist lacks range.
meh
Post punk. It's rather repetitive.
I like it. It's an interesting cross between The Who, Cream, and a hint of The Beatles.
Lovely.
It's a close relative of the Monkees.
Picture early Beatles. It's okay, if not a bit too sweet and simple.
Boring AF.
I like it. It reminds me of some old-school 90s hip-hop.
He mumbles terribly and they play the same 3 chords over and over. Lyrics are non-sensical.
Bjork is hit-and-miss with me.
Everything sounds like a 70's sitcom theme song.
This sounds like a teenager who recorded herself with a Casio keyboard.
It's like Devo and Depeche Mode had a baby.
Man, this brought back memories.
Not available on Spotify
I just can't get past his voice. No bueno.
It's okay. I mean, it's Elvis, and I think we all know his deal.
Really discordant. Definitely not my thing.
It's a groovy sound but doesn't change from song to song.
This isn't the White Stripes best album.
He has no sense of rhythm and he sings way off key.
Well, it certainly is ambient.
The vocal is horrendous. No thank you.
Super mellow music. It's like Cowboy Junkies on quaaludes.
TLDR. No, actually, this album is fine, if not a little sappy.
Not available
I f*cking hate The Carpenters.
This dude mumbles in two chords.
This is excellent groove music; the vocalist has a beautiful, crystalline voice. I enjoyed it.
It's not available on Spotify.
One note per song. Not chord, one NOTE.
This person is WAY off key.
The singing is like nails on a chalkboard.
Corny AF
Mush Mouth
He's like Hank Williams meets John Prine
This must be the band that gave UK hip-hop its bad name. Ugh! Thank goodness that they've stepped up as of late.
Def Leppard was a pedestrian band at best. They had one sound, no variations, no real talent. Hated them then, and I hate them even more now.
The music is good. The lyrics are dumb.
I wish I could rate this less than 1 star.
It's like nails on a chalkboard
Not the best reggae out there. The lyrics aren't particularly interesting, and the patterns are too simple.
Repetitive and simple. His voice is weak and very flat.
Meh.
I hate to say this, because he's not my favorite person, but this album is great.
Michael is the king and always will be.
It sounds like a parody of country music.
not available on spotify
Super corny
There's a lot of Gorillaz sound in there, but you can definitely hear other influences like The Beatles and some Dylan.
Watered down version of Metallica.
Not available on Spotify.
Very 80s, and schmaltzy AF
Heroine's one hell of a drug, I guess.
What did the Deadhead say when the acid wore off? "Hey, this band sucks!"
It's pretty but a little boring.
It's like U2 meets The Cure.
The band has a strong technical ability, but their songs are so schmaltzy and syrupy that I just can't stand it.
Meh
This wasn't available on Spotify.
Yes has some great tunes and some weird, but fascinating soundscapes. However, this 4-disc set is super repetitive with multiple remixes of the same song.
Meh. Angsty punk.
Yech. No thanks.
It harkens to the 70s lounge singer.
First, it's horrendous. Second, wouldn't it be hilarious if a band called "Napalm Death" was actually, like, smooth jazz?
Lots of auto-tune, and her vocals don't have any pattern to them. Imagine someone just singing a stream of consciousness throughout their day. That's what this is.
This guy desperately wants to be Beck, but doesn't have the ear to pull it off. He sings mostly in off-key falsetto, and the background sound is primarily a criminally distorted guitar. And the lyrics are what a person of average intelligence write to seem smarter. Noisy and nonsensical.
This is old style English psychedelic (sort of) music. I don't like it. It's schmaltzy and childish.
This man couldn't hold a tune in a sack.
Got Caught Stealing is the only decent song.
I like the lyrics and the variety, but his vocal range is limited.
I can imagine the acne-riddled boys that related to this shite.
I hate the title song, and it's the best onthe album.
If I could rate this zero, I would.
His voice is like cats on a chalkboard.
Ugh, garbage 🗑
Apparently they thing feedback is a valuable musical tool.
Boring
All the classic rockers have their regrettable 80s album.
I hated this so much.
Not terrible but super repetitive.
This doesn't pull up anything on Spotify.
Every song sounds the same.
This is super early Floyd when Sid Barret was still with them.
Too jazzy
Noisy for the sake of it and way off key. It's like nails on a chalkboard.
This sounds like a prank.
