10/10
one of the best albums ever made. period.
All time best
Classic, highlight track - Time
The best.
An incredible album with greater relevance and musical influence than I had originally thought. More than just an iconic cover
masterpiece!
this album deserves the hype, the songs match the theme/energy of the album so well
This is dark side of the moon after all
Was actually able to pull out an LP to listen to this one. What more could be said about it at this point?
Well... yeah
10/5. 'Nuff said.
Greatest. Best of the best.
Top 10 all time
Fav Song: Any Colour You Like
Very cool. I can see why it's a rock classic.
nice
Culte et excellent.
I don't think there's anything I can say that hasn't been said before. An absolute masterpiece of songwriting, performance, and production.
There's not much to be said that hasn't already been said, this is one of the best albums of all time, a perfectly packaged concept album that never feels boring or dull and that was groundbreaking back then and still is almost 50 years onwards
Classic.
1 star, the song speak to me is an anthemic banger but the rest of it was ded.
I love it.
No notes needed.
This is your sign to drop acid and sync this album up to Paul Blart Mall Cop 2

Not much wrong with this classic album, although I prefer to listen to Animals.
The Wall was a bad introduction to Pink Floyd for me, this was a far better one. Lush production and very pleasant to listen to, but there is still something missing here to push it to a 5 for me
some parts are really epic and majestic
album #86 a sick as fuck album cover for a cool album. stands the test of time. ꩜ average track rating: 3.2/5 ꩜ favourite track(s): the great gig in the sky, time ꩜ least favourite track(s): speak to me ꩜ album rating: ★★★⯪☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,003 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 41 (+1 The Dark Side of the Moon) ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 17 (+1 The Dark Side of the Moon) ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 69
I thought I knew this album. Turns out I only knew its reputation. Listening late at night, on headphones, it is a whole other experience. It is still groundbreaking and earth-shattering 60 years on? Perhaps not - this is well-worn territory now, and so many bands have built on DSOTM and taken it in different directions. But gee whiz you can absolutely see why it blew everyone's mind in 1973.
yeah, its pretty good. In my current context it doesn't particularly speak to me on any emotional level. That being said, the musicianship is at peak performance and I am made into happy lil fella anytime the piano on this album shows up, it's utterly beautiful. "Money" is such a fucking funny song because it is fantastic single, but whenever it comes on during this album I am completely taken out of the vibe. But honestly, it probably is a necessary break from the ambience of this album so the first and second half don't blend together too much. Iconic riff though. This is a great album, but also the least I've had to say about an album so far. 4/5 This shit probably went fucking crazy in the 70s
I know this album is massive and loved by all, but I don’t know if I can get through this. I am listening. I’m surprised him many songs I’ve heard but didn’t know the name of. I saw Pink Floyd live in the 90s. I’ve seen PinkFloyd laser shows. I just never have a desire to listen to a Pink Floyd album. The music is really phenomenal on this album. No matter how I feel about Pink Floyd, I will always enjoy “Money”. What a great bass line and swing. I have honesty thought for years that “brain damage” was called “dark side of the moon”😂
Already heard, very good
. .
I've of course heard of this album and heard Money many times, but never listened to the whole thing. This was a jam! It felt timeless and I really enjoyed it.
This album is kind of timeless to me. It just exists on its own, always has and always will. It's almost like it's not good or bad, it just is. It is Dark Side of the Moon, and I don't necessarily "love it", but I definitely do keep coming back to it. Maybe simply because it's such an undeniable force in the history of music that is relevant to our generation.
The legacy of some art is as much a millstone as a pedestal. Dark Side of the Moon has sold a zillion copies and is THE iconic album from one of the titans of 20th century rock. I heard *about* this album for years before I actually *heard* it. In most cases that kind of buildup skews expectations, but by the time I finally listened to Dark Side, I already knew Pink Floyd wasn't my thing. Later, under the influence of shrooms at age 19, I felt like I finally understood it. I am a cliché. These days I appreciate that it's an artistic triumph, finely crafted and executed, yada yada...but probably not something I'd revisit on my own. I liked it fine, which is practically an endorsement considering my history.
Well produced album. Classic guitar driven album. Worth the hype,
I've attempted to listen to this album multiple times. Earliest would have been in the early 2000s when I was a teenager. I didn't understand the hype and I think listening to this before my 20s did it a disservice. I remember finding it strange and the coin sounds in Money were corny. I knew nothing of the history of music production so just expected something that would be life changing based on the hype. I tried multiple times since then and also found it a let down. I'm older now and I think the album has definitely grown on me. I appreciate the flow of the album and how well produced it is but you need to go in with 1973 ears and even then I still think it's been overhyped. It's a great album. It is not the greatest album of all time. 4/5.
Me gustó, nunca lo había escuchado
This was a really interesting album. I don't think there will ever be anything in their discography that makes me a huge 'fan' of them or makes me listen to their music in large quantities, but this is something that I would be happy to listen to if someone put it on. I feel crazy for saying this, but I kind of expected more. Pictures of this album are plastered EVERYWHERE, and whenever anyone mentions great albums or the best albums of all time, this one always seems to make the list. But if I were to compare this to another album that has the same sort of commercial coverage, like 'Thriller', I would have to say that this album appears slightly disappointing to me. Yes, I enjoyed the tracks, but there weren't many special moments for me. There were one or two moments of 'oh wow, that was really lovely', but not enough for me to regard this as highly as many people think I probably should do. I can understand why people enjoy this, and why it is influential of its time period, but I think that maybe compared to some of their other stuff, it just isn't doing it for me. But nonetheless, I thought a lot of this was interesting, and I absolutely loved the vocals, especially in 'The Great Gig in the Sky'. A highlight of most Pink Floyd music I have listened to has to be the instrumental section. This alone is amazing, and I would have probably been happier with a Pink Floyd instrumental album. For example, yes, the cinematic synth sounds are gorgeous, but I love how beautiful the introduction of the saxophone is in 'Us and Them'. I feel if it wasn't for the beauty of the instrumentation, this would probably get less than 4 stars from me. Favourite lyric: 'Why should I be frightened of dying? There's no reason for it... You've gotta go sometime.' ('The Great Gig in the Sky') Favourites (in order): Us and Them Breathe (In the Air) The Great Gig in the Sky Money
Chill and cool
love when you know an album is meant to be listened from the beginning to the end just the way it is. still i get why its a classic!
One rule I made up for myself is regardless of whether or not I was familiar with an album I would still listen to it all the way through when assigned. I was regretting my rule with this album because I had simply just heard it so many times and wasn't really in the mood for listening to it. It comes with baggage of a bunch of extraneous life experience. The album cover is probably one of the most iconic images associated with music. That was my default hooded sweatshirt I wore freshmen year in highschool. This was decades after the album came out and I wasn't really a super fan. In the teenage process of assembling some form of identity I landed on 'I like music' and this was one of those albums that was supposed to blow your mind. I checked out The Wall movie from my library and had the blacklight poster of the walking hammers. Now over 25 years later in my 2026 mindset it's the 'mind expanding' soundtrack for the most closed minded people I know. That's not a generalized dig at fans, just in my life experience. Trying to set the stage that I was hostile to listening to the album and it still was pretty good. The recording quality is fantastic. I don't have the patience for all of the concept album components but damn if they didn't make a great song to remind you of time slipping past you. That one ages fantastically while I do the opposite. I think it's definitely an album to listen to before you die. I'm not going to stand by every track on here individually but this list is albums.
> 1001 Albums - Day 1 # **Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of the Moon (1973)** | First Listen 1. Speak To Me - 7/10 | nice theme to start off the album 2. Breathe (In the Air) - 7/10 | the vocals coming in at halfway was a choice 3. On the Run - 8/10 | interesting track i like the experimental of it all 4. Time - 9/10 | that intro was a jumpscare 5. The Great Gig in the Sky - 9/10 ❤️ | heard the section about 1:00 before, insane runs throughout the WHOLE TRACK? 6. Money - 8/10 | didn't feel the vibe much 7. Us and Them - 10/10 ❤️ 8. Any Colour You Like - 8/10 9. Brain Damage - 10/10 ❤️ 10. Eclipse - 9/10 | that loop back was perfect Notes: i can see why this is one of the most worldwide recognized albums, it has a lot of creative choices i didn't really think about first because as this is my first listen of the album i don't have the full picture of it all. i found it interesting how nearly half of the record is instrumental, i loved the transitions from song to song, this was a very interesting album listen. truly recommend 85/100.
I don't get Pink Floyd, but I do appreciate this album. ★★★★
Crazy first pull Took me way too long to realize that my speakers aren't quiet, and "Speak to Me" just starts really quietly "Breathe (In the Air)" is nostalgic for me. My mom likes to play it a lot. I'm now realizing I haven't properly listened through this album ever though, because that transition into - - "On the Run" is really clean. Love that. Kinda feeling cyberpunky with this one. Not really a song I'd add to a playlist, but cool as a transition/interlude. "Time" is another song that's nostalgic for me. Really pretty, something wistful about it. Love the choir in it too, makes it a lot grander than I think it would have been otherwise. Side note, I'm writing this while sitting at my computer. I'm sure this would hit way harder if I was on a road trip on a long summer day after some mildly life-changing event. Alas, it's only slightly warm outside and I have things to work on at home. "The Great Gig in the Sky" hnnnnggggg unnnhhhhh yesss mmmmhmmmm yummmmm. "Money" is fun. Just feels like good rock honestly. Maahhnaaaiiiiyayyyyyy. Ohhh I reallyyyy like "Us and Them". I haven't heard this one before, but the soft trumpet leading in is so pretty. This space between psychedelic, rock, and (very light) jazz is exactly the kind of- OHHHH WOAAHHH WOAAAHH IM ASCENDING WAAAAAAHHHH. If I heard that live I probably would start sobbing. "Any Colour You Like" is vibey... but for some reason it just feels like a watered down version of "Us and Them". As an ending track I'd probably like it a lot more, but we have two more tracks to go. "Brain Damage" drops the album name lets gooo. I enjoy this one a lot for a reason I can't place a finger on, especially leading into- -"Eclipse". This second half of the album I was far less familiar with, but I'm so impressed. It's hit after hit. Honestly, everything after "Money" feels like its own entity. I wish the rest of the album resonated in that way for me. This album is a 4/5 for me. I think it's objectively really good, and I would be happy to hear it played somewhere. I understand completely why it's considered a classic and the best album of all time for many people. I probably just wouldn't reach for it unless I'm in a super specific mood. Maybe I lack taste. That being said, there are definitely songs on here that are a 5/5 for me, like "Breathe", "Us and Them", and "Great Gig". Two of them aren't new to me though, so maybe I'm biased. I'll probably give the album another listen when I'm in a different mood, it might grow on me more. A final note, this album has been inciting existential dread in me this whole time. No idea what that's about.
Have not listened to this in full in close to 40 years. It's not something I think I'll ever really listen to regularly again, but is undeniably a great listen once in a while.. There's a reason this is an album EVERYONE already knows. Totally forgot about the sexy sax on Us and Them.
Probably one of the top 3 most essential albums of all time. Has great run from start to finish and manages to keep your attention until the very end. 8/10
Pink Floyd is truly one of those bands that people really love or really hate, I've discovered lately. Personally, I enjoyed this album. This was the first album I ever listened to from Pink Floyd growing up (they were much earlier than me in existence). I enjoy their experimentation and their prog elements. I like that they weren't doing the same thing as contemporary acts, and Money was the first song on bass I learned, so this one is personal. That said, I'm trying to give this a listen as if I wasn't familiar with it. I'm not Pink Floyd's biggest fan nor their biggest hater. I enjoyed this sonic journey back in time.
Before this project began, I listened to Dark Side of the Moon on headphones for the first time. Perhaps absorbing it “the right way” made the album’s sonic wonders and creativity stand out more in the past. The session gave me a greater appreciation for Floyd’s musicality. Like its fellow 1973 Innervisions, Dark Side of the Moon’s inventiveness, while being a massive success, is stunning. For an album filled with ominous keyboards, dispirited vocals and pained existential void lyrics to be one of the biggest selling records seems unfathomable. Each member of the group contributes to the startling soundscape, with Nick Mason’s drums and other percussion particularly standing out on these recent listens. Mason delivers the proverbial master class in how to not overplay, but still stand out. While only “Money” has hit single top qualities, other songs provide memorable moments that account for its success. The breathy vocals on “Us and Them”, the clocks on “Time” and the wordless gospel singing throughout “Great Gig in the Sky” all lodged into my brain. Pink Floyd’s slow churn and grim view of the world, with its industrial meets space sound is not typical rock and roll. I need something with more of a human touch to place it in my personal pantheon, but I can fully understand anyone who lauds it as one of the great records of any era.
An excellent overal album and the reason Pink Floyd went on to become of one the most overrated bands. Great Gig in the Sky is among the top vocal performances in rock history.
It deserves the hype, but it's not perfect. Some songs (in my opinion, On The Run), don't really serve a huge purpose and are just there for run time. I think Money is a bit overdone, but it's fun the first time you listen to it. Will revisit for sure, but it's mainly just a me thing that I'm not as ecstatic as everyone else about this album.
this album was probably the first album to have cha ching sounds. so thats important. but, jokes aside, its a great album and its experimental and satisfying. i get why people lost their minds about it.
Way better than "Wish You Were Here!" Atmospheric and enjoyable at least.
It's Dark Side of the Moon for sure. I mean it's good.
Time The Great Gig in the Sky Us And Them Eclipse
Very cool
I have this record.
Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I know some songs. I am very familiar with the cover and the overall reputation of this album. How do I feel about this artist? I like Pink Floyd when the mood is right. Pre-Listen Thoughts: I like Pink Floyd, but this will be my first time hearing this start to finish and I’m excited Favorite track(s): Brain Damage Post-Listen Thoughts: Solid, you can see why it’s a classic. Consistent tone, never drags, the perfect length.
Overrated, but still pretty good. Basically the same song for 40 minutes, but what a song.
If this album was truly Time-less, it would be one song shorter than it is.
It was ok
great album. transcendental FAVS: us and them, the great gig in the sky, breathe (in the air)
The style dragged on for me a bit toward the end but not enough to truly penalize the rating. Time is so great. 4/5
Yeah, I heard this earlier today. Still great!
Tuff
Money” is a great—downright essential—song. I can’t say the rest of the album is *quite* to that level. Back in the day, Christgau said Dark Side was a “kitsch masterpiece.” I wish I could hear a little more masterpiece and a little less kitsch. This is currently the third(!) highest-rated album on this project. Respectfully, no. This is not one of the two or three albums that will still be enjoyed 200 years from now. The lyrics aren’t . . . profound. And the sound is more overproduced than anything else. I yearn for a little more edge, anyway, in both the vocals and the music. 4.5?
It was good it's the first time I heard Pink Floyd. My friend Noel talked about Floyd a lot now I understand why. This is the first time i heard an album where every song is connected and it felt like a big song broken into subsongs.
A timeless rock classic - but it’s the first time I’ve listened to it all through from start to finish 🙃
Haven’t listened to this since Middle School. It is still very good.
personal rating: 7/10
So we all know this one, right. It's really good. Accessible by their standards at the time. It doesn't sell as many copies as it does for nothing. The cover might have helped it out as it's about as iconic as album covers get and it does look alluring. The best song is great gig in the sky. It's a bastard to sing along to right enough.
Lots of thoughts about album listening and music with “empty space” vs today’s pop artists gravitating towards shorter, catchier songs meant to be listened to individually. I’d forgotten how much I used to listen to Pink Floyd with my dad
I had a really good nap on the sofa while the album played. I fell asleep after a few songs and woke up to the opening notes of 'Money', which is definitely a highlight of the album. It's a cool concept and one of the most recognisable album covers. If there were a few more memorable songs, it would have been a five.
I'll start by saying that, even at my most Pink Floyd obsessed phase, I've never being the biggest fan of this record, so I was curious to see if my opinion changed after not having listened the album after so many years. Spoilers: it did, but not to the point where I would personally consider it to be a masterpiece. The record properly starts with the song "Breathe (In the Air)" after the intro "Speak to Me", which is basically a collage of different sounds taken from all the songs in the album. "Breathe (In the Air)" constitutes a very strong start, as the song is a very beautiful piece that feels incredibly sincere with its sad tone, not only thanks to the melancholic sound brought by the serene synths and guitars, but also thanks to the introspective lyrics. The only thing that bothers me about the song is how short it actually is and how sudden it ends. Wish it had... more room to breath (pun intended). Then follows "On the Run", probably the weakest track of the whole album. It may sound very experimental and psychedelic, as it is basically only composed of a very texture synth over a minimal rhythm pattern, but I don't think it is intriguing or goes anywhere. To me it feels like unneeded filler. But next is one of the greatest hits of the record, "Time". I really liked the use of clocks ticking and alarms sounding in the introduction of the song. It is super fitting with the theme and title of the track. After the clocks section, the song is basically a really solid song with some nice and sad melodies, great attitude in the singing and lyrics reflecting the pass of time. In addition, I loved how the bring back the melodies of "Breathe (In the Air)" and integrated it in the last section of the track. Following is "The Great Gig in the Sky", a beautiful and relaxing song that starts with some nice synths and piano and then incorporates a female vocalist who gives an incredibly passionate performance. I have to say that, as good as the song may sound, I'm not that crazy about it. It is great, but I don't find it as grandiose as it wants to be. Next song is also another banger, "Money". I love the incredibly groovy bass line and how they incorporate the sound of cash register and coins into the song and create a rhythm with them. It also may be one of the most fun and positive sounding tracks of the whole record, specially in the bridge when they speed up and turn the volume up for the guitar solo. A very fun and catchy song, that is for sure. However, "Us and Them" comes back to the mellow side of the record, and probably in the most powerful form. The verses are incredibly soothing and pleasant while the choruses go for a very grandiose and elevating sound with the group singing in harmony, the incorporation of another layer of female voices and every instrument getting louder. In one of these big choruses, instead of singing they bring a saxophone solo that sounds very epic. Then comes "Any Colour You Like", another instrumental passage that feels like an improvisation between guitars and synths. It may not be the brightest point of the album and not as ambitious as other cuts, yet I think is nice. Finally, the album finishes with the pair of songs "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse", which are so well connected that they feel like an unique piece. "Brain Damage" have a very similar structure to "Us and Them", as it has soothing verses and big choruses, but with a more positive sound and not as grandiose as the previous track. On the contrary, "Eclipse" brings a great and big final moment. The voices are filled with energy, the female choir is also very powerful and the instruments are full of life as well. In the end, this is a great album and undoubtedly a classic. As I said at the beginning, I do enjoy it more than I initially did and I have a better understanding and appreciation towards it, yet, it is not one of my favourites from them, as there are moments that I'm not really crazy about, even though I still think they are good.
Undeniably an important album, but like all Pink Floyd albums we've had, the proggiest of prog parts keep it from perfection.
Made me feel sad, somehow. I enjoyed the songs but the whole album had a melancholy feel.
Pink Floyd classic theatrical music
Iconic cover art. Even though the songs are too slow for my taste, it's absolutely an album worth hearing before I die.
I don't have any particular connection to it so it doesn't land for me in the same way it seems to for so many others but it's certainly enjoyable. One of the better prog albums for sure
Didn't actually listen to this because I've already heard it a bunch, but yeah, pretty good it turns out.
Iconic for a reason, the transitions between songs are so satisfying.
It brought me back to a place I forgot.
A calming and also unsettling listen, music that will lull you into a peaceful place then wake you up to some unique sounds that almost make you uncomfortable. It’s a classic for a reason , with a brilliant sound to it. I can see why this is such a beloved album. Great for all occasions.
Last few songs were very good
I'm supposed to get high and listen to THIS while I watch the Wizard of Oz? Crazy
Magico
i really have to be around it a lot to really like it
Et masterpiece, no doubt.
This record has some of my favorite Pink Floyd songs in Breath, Time, Any Colour You Like, and Brain Damage. Also discovered Us and Them. But this record also has some moments that get too into the psychedelic side of things and just get annoying. Specifically in On the Run and Great Gig in the Sky. Resulting in 4 stars
What is there to say? It's iconic. It rocks. Not a single song is on my liked songs playlist.
I know its a classic, but all the sound effects make it feel a bit dated. i had to skip Great Gig in The Sky. When you get into the songs theyre great. 4.5
nice
It's a great album, brought down by being beaten to death by radio stations. Give me everything Pink Floyd - pre-80s and excluding The Wall and Dark Side and I'm a happy guy.
There are lots of things i can include from this album such as death, Happiness, living your life etc. The transition makes it so much better, it feels as if the vibes change significantly throughout the album. I can really feel the complexity from it, like It deserves so much attention because that's what makes this album a magnum opus. People need to see the resemblance from it. Not to mention that this album was on billboard top for 14 years. Now that is undoubtly impressive. Following the era where music has gradually changing overtime, but no such record can even surpass the peak of this work.
what a great listen. this is in the top 5 of albums you have to listen to straight through as a whole to get the full effect. ethereal
I honestly quite like it, but I don't think any of the songs are going on my playlist so I can't give it a personal 5/5. That said I could totally see that changing in the future. 4/5.
I get the hype now. I'm not a really big fan of the experimental tracks but the record has some of the best songs from the band.
It's famous I guess.
I feel like I should be liking it more than I do, but it’s still a pretty good album
i’m not a big prog rock guy, but yeah ok, this is one you should hear before you die.
It sounds nice, but its definitely not my favorite album. I don't have much to say about it.
This album is very good. Although it's a 2011 remaster, I imagine the production was out of this world when it came out as well. All of the repeating samples and themes and the way the songs flow together make this a great full-album listening experience. In the way that Songs like "On the Run" actually evoke the image of someone running, I think this album does a fantastic job of using sound as a storytelling device. For that reason, I would like to listen to it again and learn more of the lyrics and track names to try and paint a more vivid image of the album's story. There's something about the use of sense and production tricks during this time. Period that I really like. Like we've said, there was a ton of creativity and excitement surrounding the emergence of new music technology. If I were to nitpick, I might say that they were a little too artsy with this album and the actual musical content doesn't have too much variety, but it is still executed on a very high level. The Way songs blend together could be interpreted as a strength or a weakness. I found myself more able to appreciate the long songs when I adopted the mindset that the whole album was one long song. Very good
Great gig
A Pink Floyd album I don't actually hate! Less self-indulgent, more immediate, not a bad thing to put on at work while you contemplate the infinite.
Amazing
Good shi om bij weg te dromen
Pretty vibey
didn't listen to all of it
I decided to really listen to every album and rate it no matter reputation or sales numbers. This was a hard one to stand by that promise, but there are a few moments on this album that didn't blow me away like all the 5* albums on my list did. I feel bad for doing this :D
Another great Monday pull! Another classic to end all classics and my 3rd Floyd album in this experience. It takes a bit to get going with the first three tracks but once it gets going it contains some essential classic and prog rock tracks. I wasn't wowed by it, but it was enjoyable nonetheless Is it better than "Wish You Were Here?" No. Is it better than "The Wall?" Yes. As such I'm giving it a 3.5 and rounding it up to a 4/5 for the sake of this experience
I actually don't think I've listened to any of these? The way the songs bleed into each other is super fun. Idk this isn't my usual music style but it's a vibe. Time is the first that feels like a song I would listen to- I feel like I got more into the album starting from there. Giving this one a 7/10. Not something I would normally listen to but I liked it and I appreciate the craft. Big fan of Brain Damage into Eclipse. The last four as a group of songs was super cool.
Always thing of the Wizard of Oz synch fun fact, it's a transformative album. Favourite tracks: Great Gig in the Sky , Us and Them
LOVE
It’s cool
money was pretty good
The most album album that ever albumed. I'm giving it 9/10 because that's how many perfect songs are on it, and I'm not elaborating on which one I think is not so good. Actually I will say, Brain Damage/Eclipse is the best ending to an album in history, it's such a fantastic climax that ties the whole concept together. Sticking the landing is the hardest part of any concept album and only a few have ever gotten it right. Not to mention that random doorman they interviewed who gives the album all of its best spoken word lines.
I was SO excited for this one. Every song has such an ethereal vibe, beautiful vocal harmonies. Groovy basslines too !! Fav song is ‘Time’.
Far out, man
Listened to this a bunch
So this is one of those really famous albums that I've never actually listened to until this list. I can understand why it is lauded, it was great.
1. breathe: the beginning with the screaming into the guitar really gives me midtown foggy day movie vibes.. fire so far... singers just came in (Run, rabbit, run) this part w/ the guitar is fire. overall rlly good song 2. on the run: transition is fireeeeeeeee very mysterious very computer/technological. chill song nice and movie like rn 3. time: its giving cowboy showdown. times running out. oop wait they have singers. ots talking Abt time slipping by and how fast it can go. love the guitar solos in here. now it kinda sounds like driving on a california highway windows down and palm trees are swaying. now it has the same beat as breathe, nice little transition 4. the great gig in the sky: one of my favorite songs in the album. so much emotion in the woman's voice it makes me feel like I'm levitating. "I'm not frightened of dying" 5. money: starts with the soundtrack of (surprise) money. its giving grand theft auto or beginning of some type of thief/action movie. 6. us and them: very solemn beginning. not as upbeat as the others. sounds like it would be in a coming of age movie or smt. kinda giving walking on the highway at night with your headphones in having some type of moment. there's a saxophone in hereee. OMG there's a whole choir in the background whole nother change from what I was just hearing. still gives the same vibe 7. any color you like: this is just pure instrumental but it feels super hopeful and like you're finally going up in life or finding peace somehow someway. "you are the master of your universe, your own destiny so make it any colour you like" 8. brain damage: no comments on this mostly, good song its chill. basically like all the others. but the laugh at the end is so villainous yk. the guitar/drum solo at the end is so climactic ending core. 9. eclipse: wait omg the transition was so smooth I didn't even notice this. the guitar/drum solo at the end is so climactic ending core. with the lyrics too this is fireeeeeeeeee. overall I would rate it a 8.5/10 just because its a very good soundtrack for movies and I love soundtracks that make me feel like I'm in a movie sooo yayyy tyyyyy
The great Hipgnosis cover seems to perfectly incorporate the experience of listening to the record: the black vinyl explodes in your brain into a rainbow of thoughts and emotions even without following Syd into madness (though I do recognize that our modern ears may not be so inclined to entertain the prog/psych consummation). "Time" has survived AOR radio's repeated attempts on its life, and you don't even need shrooms. "Money" doesn't fare so well, mostly because it isn't as good, though it has its pluses. The side vocal itself makes the album everything it's cracked up to be.
I like this album. When I was a kid my best friend and I saw a laser light show at our local planetarium set to this album lol. This is my 3rd Pink Floyd album so far, and I think I like Wish You Were Here a little better than this one.

already knew this album
4/7
I’ve listened to this album already so many times. Definitely overrated imo but good still
Klassikerna klassiker.
The Dark Side of The Moon is overall a really solid album. It definitely feels experimental and a little bit different than the rest of 1970s Rock, but it does it in an authentic way and not in a "let's make this sound different for the sake of being different" way. It also conveys some very important messages that are still very much relevant today. Despite it not being my style of music, it is a very good album all around and no wonder it is considered a classic and loved by so many people. I'm not sure if im going to revisit it but I enjoyed giving it a listen for sure. 4/5
Listening session: february 16th, while commuting to internship Listened to before: heard some songs before Thoughts: I have to admit that I never really gave Pink Floyd a real chance so this was my first time listening to this entire album. I really liked how the songs flow into each other and while I don’t think this is the best album ever made, I do see why this is such a classic Favourite tracks: Breathe (In the Air), The Great Gig In The Sky & Us And Them
Caught between a 4 and a 5. This album is a legend, deservedly so. “Us and Them” is probably my favorite, a floating trip that just goes on and on. But there is also a ponderous quality that I’ve always found alienating.
Very solid. Don’t listen to people that say it’s overrated… opinion vary for sure but uts a good listen. I enjoy the album’s ups and downs. I don’t know… something about the ride is fun.
I don't remember listening to this album all the way through although it's very possible I did back in the day and just, er, don't have any recollection of it. It's good. I imagine I would have rated it higher if I was still smoking and indulging in other alternative entertainment. Would I want to hear it again? Not necessarily but it's some good sounds for the early 70s.
Get the hype. Don't love it. Some tunes however. Time and money are stand outs. I don't get great gig in the sky
I hated this album in high school but it's hard to deny it being an iconic classic rock album
Pink Floyd is at least three different bands, with at least a dozen different musical sounds throughout the years. This album, The Dark Side of the Moon, is the first one they did that could reasonably be called a concept album, and as such is a bit different to everything that went before. Less instrumental, more focused, and arguably much better for it. As with the Beatles, there are always going to be arguments over which Floyd album is the best Floyd album. For me, while this one comes very close, there are at least two other albums in their back catalogue I prefer. Still, it's a damned good album and I'm going to give it a strong four and a half stars.
Would give a 4.5
what can I say...it's gas
Oh I’ve been waiting for this one. This album is tied to a core memory of mine, getting to experience it through a planetarium show at the Hutchinson Cosmosphere (near where my grandparents lived and I attend Space Camp in 7th grade). Upon revisiting it this album flowed cohesively and provided an experience start to finish. It was interesting to read that it was released after the departure of Syd Barrett (whose album The Madcap Laughs I was able to review as part of this experience as well).
solid 80/100
This is a classic. But it's a classic I grew up listening to interminably. I don't hate it. I love it the way I loved my old toys. On a shelf these days. It's cool to take it down and peruse but I find myself asking how I got so lost in it all? It's like I can't quite find the door to step inside that world again with this album? Strangely, I don't have this issue with The Wall. It's still an amazing album but it's not the perfect slick black masterpiece for me that it was at 13 upon my father's turntable. It's human and, despite its mythos, it's just a really good album with long expanses I've maybe too often walked across to appreciate the vista as much as in my youth. That's a me problem but then...it's my review.
Very good
Iconic album … but only a 4 four for me. It’s not that I don’t like it… I just find myself skipping some songs.
Already listened
Classic af, enjoying listen to it throughly.
easy to see why this became a classic
1. Speak to Me End was creepy and I’m a horror fan 2.
Ahead of its time, piece of art, especially the live version of it; still relevant in today's society, immensly powerful and a genuine masterpiece... revolutionary 🏆
Hmm. Something that's been as ubiquitous as air for the past 50 years. I don't know if I have to listen to it again. I've already heard it enough times in my life. There was a time when I'd have given this one star just to be a smug contrarian but I think I've mostly outgrown that. It is a hell of a piece of work but I'm not sure if it's overexposure or if it just isn't fully in my tastes.
I’ve listen to this album a couple of times. It’s an amazing example of how the production begin an album can Influence a lot of the final sound. I really liked listening to conceptual albums form the beginning to end, to see the whole picture, this is one of those albums. I has a couple a songs that I kinda wanted to skipped. I don’t give it a 5 because it’s not an album that I would like to listen very often, but overall really good listening session.
If I hadn't put on headphones, I don't think I would've noticed some of the nuances of this album. The heartbeat on 'Speak to Me' particularly. I never knew that was there. I've listened to this album in the past with Brent, but never actually listened-listened. The title of the album comes from the song 'Brain Damage', which I find fascinating. But, it segued into the final song, 'Eclipse' so well, I truly feel like it was fluid. I thought it was so fluid, that I literally went back to the song and replayed the last few moments to listen to the transition. There is truly no transition. It just flows. And, as it began, it ends in such a similar manner with heartbeats and faint whispers. I've really liked the following songs: Breathe The Great Gig in the Sky Money (I feel like I could strut to this song after robbing a bank) Eclipse
Remember getting super high on shrooms and going to the planetarium to see the Dark Side of the Moon lazer show? Do you? I do.
Probably should’ve rated Wish You Were Here higher in hindsight
This is good, really enjoyed listening to it. I've never really listened to Pink Floyd before outside of the really famous songs. I would definitely listen to this again and give their others a go
9/10 Favourite: Us and Them Least Favourite: On the Run
4/5 Best- great gig in the sky Worst-brain damage
A classic. Love this album and the mystique around it. Time and Money (no pun intended) are two of my favorites.
y'all ever put this on with The Wizard of Oz??
Transcendental. Translation: demonic. Were I still a partaker in occult practices like smoking herb, I would have given it a 5.
Great album. One of my coworkers said that not only does it work with The Wizard of Oz, but also Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2.
A lot of different sounds for this album, very little talking which i find ominous especially since they’re so good at singing and the wall is one of my favorite albums. i feel like it’s so different from the wall that i was not enjoying the constant instruments.
Atmosphärisch, klanglich brillant und thematisch tiefgründig. Songs wie „Time“ und „Money“ sind legendär. Dennoch fehlt im Vergleich zu Wish You Were Here oder The Wall etwas von deren emotionaler Wucht und erzählerischer Geschlossenheit. Großartig, aber nicht ganz Pink Floyds Meisterstück.
Of course I was going to love this one. Shout out to you dad.
Love most of it. Too brainrotted to love 8 minute songs. 4/5
I liked that this was my first album cuz it’s one I definitely should’ve listened to by now. I obviously recognized a lot of it but I really liked listening to it all the way through it was so cool how all the songs went into each other it was like one long song. I’m not sure how relistenable it’ll be for me but I did enjoy finally sitting down to such an influential work. Also to note in general, I’m going to try to do this album a day thing and hold myself to it because I think listening to entire albums the way the artist intended is just something I should do more often instead of listening to the same thing over and over on Spotify playlists and shit. Hopefully this can also be a way to get off my phone, like instead of scrolling for an hour I can sit and listen to an album. Anyways.
not bad
Legendary
REALLY GOOD STUDY MUSIC
I mean, what am I supposed to say? This is a classic. The thing is, this is a great album, but I find myself coming back to The Wall and Meddle more than this. I actually really do like this album, I don't think there's a bad song on it. But if I want to listen to a prog rock album from this era, I would rather pick Selling England by the Pound. If I wanted to listen to a Pink Floyd album, I'd rather listen to The Wall. Time is a 5/5. Money is a 5/5. Us and Them is a 5/5. The rest is simply good.
ya lo conocía pero nunca lo había escuchado, sin dudas tiene un sonido épico y único. canciones fav: any colour you like; eclipse
Nothing here rises to Comfortably Numb or Wish You Were Here standards but still went for the psychedelic sci-fi blend. On the Run feels like a weird 80s synth thing, Us and Them/Brain Damage best on here
Great lyrics, lots of iconic instrumentals
Fav - us and them or time Least fav - on the run
Has the popular screaming song that was trending on TikTok for a while and sounds haunting. Quite groovy album
A lot of instrumantal parts. As a whole sounds very good, but some songs individually don't hit that hard
Always loved Bad Company
It's a classic, but I think this different in 1973
This album deserves its classic status, even if I don't love it as much as many do. It's biggest strength is how it mixes detailed instrumental passages and experimental sound recordings while still being accessible. The sound of the organ is great, and every time the saxophone comes in is a treat. The long spacey passages are pleasant and engaging, and it has plenty of climaxes like "The Great Gig in the Sky" acting as a coda to "Time" and the ending pair of songs. "Us and Them" may be my favorite song, as it brings everything great about the album together and has the highest highs. It's not a perfect album - it takes a little bit to get started, "On the Run" is too long, and "Money" is good but doesn't quite fit in with the other songs - but it's a great example of a band taking experimental elements and turning them into an engaging rock album.
I've never been the biggest Pink Floyd fan (controversial, I know), but this has some really incredible songs. You can hear how the Beatles specifically had a huge influence on parts of this album, and how Pink Floyd in turn influenced a generation of music. A classic for a reason. This is between a 4 and a 5 for me. I'll give it a 5 for now, since I'm early into this project.
Breathe Us and them
Will want to spin again but cool
liked breathe(in the air), on the run, time, us and them, any colour you like, brain damage, eclipse, favorite is eclipse probably who doesnt like pink floyd once more
loved listening all the way through this, loved listening to a very thematic album and their narrative, amazing guitar solos, vocals, sax
eeh
like listening to a movie, lots of small details to hear, prob not in my everyday but i mean it’s amazing, im lowkey impatient tho and there’s lots empty space, buildup that is making my adhd scream BUT IN CONTRAST so many cool sonic things that my adhd loves so maybe i just need to ward off my dopamine addiction , not super lyrical rlly liked time, the great gig in the sky 8/10
Po olbrzymim wrażeniu, jakie zostawił na mnie "Wish You Were Here" i niewyobrażalnej renomie albumu spodziewałem się doświadczenia niemal transcendentalnego. "Us and Them" i "Brain Damage" z czasem trochę uratowały dla mnie tę płytę.
very good
Good for a vibe but a bit crazy for me
Excellent mais pas étonnant en soit
HELL YEAH! (punches air) firstly, roger waters is the biggest wanker of all time. secondly, like, rog, you are scaring the hoes with "time". and i am that fucking hoe. thirdly, what else can i say. what i needed to say is already being said. this is really decent, and maybe i should listen to this lying flat on the bed inside of staring at the computer screen. but i started at 10.45 pm so... if i close my eyes ill probably fall asleep. its a tiny bit overrated at the same time and i wll glaze the wall until my life ends because i fucking identify with pink but i got the wall down. good for me 4/5
Another one of the big ones. I gueds it was pretty good
Somehow never listened to this in full. Doing this project so far has made me really appreciate how forward looking this album is in terms of what else was available in 1973 and prior. Sets the standard for 'thinking' band music, easy to see how ideas pioneered here are prevalent across popular music. However, I don't think it's as accomplished as Wish You Were Here or Animals.
a classic
All time classic
I like the vibes, don’t love the loud noises like the clocks
another classic
It’s Dark Side of the Moon
Love this record. It's slow and meandering here and there, but so pretty. Another one that you kind of have to be in the right mood for. Stunning vocals from Clare Torry. 🤩
Loved the lyrics, there was so much effort put into them, just don,t think this is my cup of tea sonically. There was really only one song that i loved from the lyrics to the sound. Its was “time”. I do understand why it’s such a big sucess, this album really does deserve all the recognition it got.
Wonderfully experimental
I love how the album plays together
Beaten into submission over the years to recognise it as an important album. Not been keen on the band. Saw the band tour the album and it was something of a bore. It just didn't seem to work in a massive space. However it seemed to be on constant play on late night french radio and through that began to appreciate the depth.
Seminal. Experimental. Melodic. Haunting.
Really lush orchestrations and fantastic production. I think I just have a hard time getting into psych rock because while this album was beautiful, it took me a bit to get into it. Consider this a very high 4. Maybe if I smoked weed it'd be a 5.
Nice listen, but I know they've got better stuff.
I love albums that try to take you on a journey and this definitely does that. I love when artists put effort into clean transitions between songs too, it heightens the whole feel of the album. It’s weird but I guess that’s kind of the point. Critically acclaimed for a reason
Good all the way through. I like how it ends the way it starts, almost like it was made to stream on a loop.
Solid.
Been heard. 4
You know the album cover. You may have listened to it while tripping on acid. Apparently it lines up with The Wizard of Oz. It's iconic for many reasons and now I see why people have such a strong infatuation with this album. I think if I were you get and more impressionable, The Dark Side Of The Moon would have a much more profound affect on me. The subjects and themes of the album are melancholic and self reflective. A commentary on life and our pursuit of comfort in the chaos. This listen through taught me that Pink Floyd aren't a singles band. They're an album band. If you're not listening one of their records front to back, then you're not truly experiencing Pink Floyd. Money may get radio play but it doesn't have any resonance without the lead-in from The Great Gig in the Sky. That's the strongest part of the album. It flows effortlessly from track to track making it one whole satisfying experience. I now get why tripping at a Pink Floyd laser show was peak entertainment at one point.
Really influential album. Time and Money are brilliant, but a little weak in some places. Good production. Brass and dramatic vocals were over the top.
Cool chill out album, a few great tracks
Overhyped, but a great album nonetheless. 8.5/10 Favourite track: Us and Them
Classic
Epic concept album with beautiful phases. Nearly perfect.
I guess what makes this album so good is how the songs seemly bleed into one another. I do wish there were fewer shrill sounds in this album. Makes it hard to listen to.
My 3rd Pink Floyd album after having The Wall and Wish You Were Here. I like this more than Wish You Were Here and slightly less than The Wall. Very impressive musicianship which makes these songs ubiquity on classic rock radio/ critica list make sense. Not a 5 for me but an excellent album.
Good but listened to death
I weirdly hadn't listened to this album before, I think I tried as a teenager but it was too experimental for me at the time but now it's actually a good listen. I can see why it was so influencial
Iconic, but not in a "I do drugs" kind of a way Best Song: Money Rating: 8.5/10 Stars: 4
Never been a big fan. It's fine, good production, bit overblown in places. Surprised it's consistently rated as one of the best albums of all time
yeah alright it’s still good and in certain moments it’s even great. the sound effects are silly now but i can see how that might have been inventive back in the day. i agree that this is music you need to first hear when you’re fifteen to really be blown away by it. now it’s just nostalgic and nice rather than mind-boggling. fav tracks: money; us and them
I like how grand and dramatic everything feels. I weirdly see why I was really into this music around the same time I found Lana Del Rey and Arctic Monkeys — it’s moody and dark and sort of fitting for a teenage taste. I don’t mean that as an insult necessarily because I think this album has held up, but there’s a certain appeal that this has for someone who has never gotten to hear music like this before. Having listened to more prog rock (mostly against my will) in the time since my introduction to this album, I can hear the common thread through all of it more than I used to. As a Pink Floyd enjoyer, I’d like to convince myself that this kind of music is a totally different thing than say, Yes, or the more excessive, indulgent parts of 70s classic rock, but I have to admit I can hear on this record more than I remembered. Despite this, and despite the fact that I’d say this isn’t even the most compelling or daring Pink Floyd album to me, I definitely feel absorbed in this sound and think it’s worth listening to from time to time (no pun intended). Fav tracks: Time; Us and Them
Mii laik.
4/5
Shocking no one here, this is a really good album. Not listened to it in a long time but is a big nostalgia hit, taking me back to when I first heard it and it made a big impact on me. Not a favourite but always good.
Jada.
I really enjoyed this album, I'm not sure I've ever listened to it all the way through. The experimental sounds and cinematic experience the album provides are always something I like from albums. My only real critique is that Speak to me (intro) ->Breathe in the air->On the run (interlude) felt like a slow, disjointed start to the album. I feel they did it better in Wish you were here w/ shine on you crazy diamond; but the rest of the album hold up to the Pink Floyd sound and feel I enjoy.
My biggest problem with this album is that to get the full experience, you need to listen in order and be totally tuned in. I think that's a fair ask; it's a great album with a lot of sonic character and what few tracks could stand alone (Money, in particular) are phenomenal. I'm not a boomer music meatrider and I don't think this album is as perfect as all the snobs think it is, but I can recognize how and why it's great while maintaining some very clear distance from "perfect" or even from "one of the greatest albums of all time." It's good, but it's not *that* good.
When I was young, my dad played me this album and presented it as one of the greatest compositions ever. I was pretty amazed at first listen, mostly because I think it was my first conscious understanding of the link between storytelling and music. It’s a great concept album, although I find it quite pretentious music nowadays. I still love the bluesy jam on “Money,” the keys on “Any Colour You Like,” and the backing vocals on most of the tracks. ‘Wish You Were Here’ is a much better album, though. If you’ve never played this album while watching the Wizard of Oz, you’re robbing yourself of a fun trip.
I enjoyed this so much more than I thought I would.
I’m happy to have been given this album and forced to listen again. I didn’t connect with it when I gave it a first listen a few years ago. I thought there was too much noise/soundscape and I just didn’t feel what the hype was all about. Upon second listen I can absolutely appreciate the epic nature of the whole album, and the grandeur of it certainly had its effect on me this time. If it’s not too basic an analysis, I still don’t really ‘get’ the soundscape-y parts of it. The more musical tracks have much more of an effect on me. Money, I think is an incredible rock song. I’ll have to be in the right mood, but I do think I’ll listen again. Those last 2 tracks to close it off are epic.
7.6/10 - not exactly my style, but the production quality is amazing. 7.5 for every song, with Us and Them getting an 8. Great album
I just don't get Pink Floyd. This is better than Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but I can't say much more about it. Maybe it has to be played at the same time as a supercut of Thundercats like the guys across the hall from me in college used to play at parties. Those were some weird cats. Time is probably my favorite song from the album, definitely the best so far. Money is one of the most overrated songs on one of the most overrated albums of all time. Brain Damage was good as well. Maybe it isn't "the most overrated album of all time" after all.
Very familiar with this record and love it. Will give it a listen today if I can
'Breathe, breathe in the air / Don't be afraid to care.' That's how this record opens, an album unexpectedly clad w/ wisdom and advice for the everyday + spiritual. Indeed, it often reads as a self-help book backed by packages of funk, gospel, and rock: 'The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older / Shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.' This aphoristic kind of lyricism - the sort you might find in a trashy collection of poetry that's more Ryan Holiday than Wallace Stevens - yet manages to avoid a collapse into the maudlin, and in fact inspires/emboldens. Wish You Were Here is, for me, still their best release - bigger, bolder, quieter, wiser - but I greatly admire the sincerity packed into these 42 mins. +, it's too classic to decry.
In the past, this was my favorite Pink Floyd album, and I would've given this 5 stars, now its only a 4 for me. These days I prefer Animals, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall over this one. But this is one of the best albums of all time. Time, Money, and Breathe are my favorite songs on the Album. Undoubtedly the most iconic album cover of all time.
Never listened to this before the whole way through, but yeah, it lives up to the hype. Songs are great. Really poignant, and the lyrics are meaningful. Really enjoyed this listen, and I will definitely listen again.
Not sure there's much I can say on this, other than I think I both like this less than most people seem to, and also less than early Floyd? What I will say is that this is a proper album. Properly cohesive, a enjoyable experience that works together without being same-y.
Very psychedelic
Very good album! This Album is an event, A Journey! Extremely cohesive!
Found the beginning of the album didn’t grab me but once it gets going it’s just so good. Don’t really know how to pick a fave song between The Great Gig in the Sky and Money, I think it depends on my mood, but Money has been stuck in my head all day so I’ll go with that. Fav song: Money Least fav: Speak to Me
Was good but not quite the transcendent life changing experience people say it is. Nice transitions and great cover though. Specific rating - 4.3 Fav song - breathe( in the air) Least fav- on the run
Might be sacrilege but sometimes there's a little too much going on for me around the actual music- maybe doesn't need the full 2 and half minutes of lead in to the singing on Time... Objectively great album still tho Favourite song: Money Least: On the Run
I had never listened to this as an entire album before. Some of the songs as singles, but a much better listen as a coherent one-sitting listen.
Listened to it on the balcony this morning while I enjoyed my tea. Felt like I needed to review it while it was still fresh. I've never really sat down and listened to Pink Floyd. My dad owned "Wish You Were Here" on vinyl and as a kid I loved the cover art. Listened to it occasionally, but I guess not often enough that it stuck. I wish it had, because though I'm glad I got to listen to The Dark Side of the Moon for the first time, I kind of wish I had listened to it more, because I thought it was great. I've heard a few of the singles before, but as a whole album it had a great flow.
Maar gelukkig is daarna Time... Us and Them kende ik nog niet echt.. Wat een mooi nummer is dat zeg! Dit is een heel lekker doorlopend album. 4 reten.
A mix of perfect music and songs that are exclusively there to pad the runtime of the album to fit on an LP, and it's perfectly clear which is which. There can even be runtime padding inside of the really good songs. Still, it's one of the most well-known albums ever for a reason, and the parts that aren't 3 minute stretches of nothing are amazing. As always, bonus points for the saxophone.
Popular for a reason. New and inventive. Cool sound. Pretty timeless. Liked it more than I was expecting to. Didn't like it much in college when I listened to it for a course. 7/10
Well, I am not a huge fan of Pink Floyd, but, yeah,I havr to admit that they are good, and this album is quite good. I can see ehy itbis in the list and it is enjoyable, however the long introductions and the lady singing all over the tracks may sound weird, but it is undeniable a cohesive album 4/5
"Any Colour You Like" is lekker spacy.
I've never listened to all of The Dark Side of the Moon before, but the tracks are so ubiquitous I think I knew every single one. It's an enjoyable listen. One thing I will say about Pink Floyd in general though is a lot of the songs are quite samey. Don't hate me PF enthusiasts!
I've never been super into Pink Floyd and I'm sad to say this is my first full listen through this whole album from front to back. Dark Side Of The Moon is a concept album through and through and I do think the album needs to be listened to straight through (obviously the singles can stand alone, but a lot of the other tracks don't). It is a really great album. The flow of the songs is great. Everyone knocked their respective instruments out of the park. Its one of the all time greats for a reason. Lyrics are dark and meaningful. It's almost a relaxing, contemplative album (outside of some sick shredding) that I think warrants a bunch of listens to really absorb. Standouts on this listen are "Time," "Money," and "Us And Them" The album certainly has its high points but out of my favorite tracks listed above and maybe "Great Gig In The Sky" I've already forgotten most of the others. This is a strong 4 for me, it's one of the greats, but not one of my greatests.
Super smart decision for them to use the very popular t-shirt design for the album cover! I feel like cool people like spinning this album 😂 I want more people to karaoke The Great Gig in the Sky 😂
atmospheric type shit
First time I’ve listened to this album with over the ear noise cancellating headphones. Tons of sounds I’ve never noticed before
9/10
Well. . . how do you review one of the best-selling albums of all time other than a 5? I want to give it a 4.5 as it's not my 'go to' album right now but over the years I've enjoyed this album a lot (most rock fans have.) Remarkable influential album - deserves to be in the topo 25 of all time but for my blog purposes I'm giving it a 4 to save space for a handful of 5 I want to give (feel like every album of 1001 should be a 4 - 5 but grading on a very harsh curve.)
Good psychedelic album. It has good songs and should be listened to as a whole
Fav: Any Colour You Like. Great album.
I see why everyone wears the shirt now. Big ole hell yeah for this one
“Time”, mia preferita (anche per la strumentazione e il lentiiiiiissimo crescendo di tensione iniziale): “ You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun”, la malinconia che ti colpisce all’improvviso quando realizzi che hai superato la tua inconsapevolezza adolescenziale. quindi, si delinea sempre più chiaramente la metafora: you missed the starting gun, ma ora corri, perché devi capire ancora tante cose; la luna sei tu, qual è il tuo lato oscuro, di cosa hai paura e cosa ti distrugge? poi, “Brain damage”: qualsiasi cosa sia, qualsiasi cosa accada, “I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon”; potrà anche farti paura quel lato oscuro, ma è rassicurante sapere che c’è, è tuo e lo ritroverai sempre familiare (o ci ritroverai sempre qualcuno con te).
I arrived here already knowing "Time" and "Money" only, so I was listening to the rest of the record pretty fresh. Honestly, the most intriguing thing about it to me was: how the heck did this thoughtful, slow, avantgarde thing connect with so many people to become one of the best-selling albums of all time? I think it's good, even great, but I just don't understand how it got to be such a universally adored classic! Anyway, I think the music is good enough to warrant all the critical respect at least. For all its experimental leanings, the band did a great job contextualizing all the weird stuff within a surprisingly accessible package.
Another classic I have never heard in entirety. I enjoyed it. Nothing is up beat or happy its all very mellow, deep, dark and sad but there is something beautiful about about that. I didn't realize so much would be interludes and instrumentals. Those are beautiful but it does seem like the album seem shorter and not as complete.
Feel like pink floyd and this particular album is way overrated but its still a good album
