Absolute classic. One the best albums made
So much has been said about this album. It was around from the beginning for me. This record and the Beach Boys "High Water" collection... plus Rolling Stones "Beggars Banquet" were always near the turntable. A bit dark for a kid? Sure, and actually, I liked those other records better LOL. For me personally I'd rather listen to "Animals" or "Wish You Were Here" in most situations... I also like "Meddle", "Piper", "Saucer"... but this was the record that put Pink Floyd on the map for most people and one can't argue the brilliance and creativity that went into making it.
The way the songs tie together perfectly makes this my favortie Pink Floyd album. Seriously, I love the fact that it starts and ends with a heartbeat.
yes, (one of) the greatest album ever
As I said before, this is probably my favourite album of all time. Pink Floyd at their absolute best - closely followed by Wish You Were Here that comes next. Then, after that, you get Roger Waters taking too much control, and the sound gets a bit too harsh on The Wall, and then after he quits the band loses its edge (but still makes some really decent, more chilled prog). And obviously miles better than the stuff before, the overly psychedelic and outright weird albums. It's a slowish start, building the mood, On The Run then probably my least favourite track on the album. Then the jarring intro into Time that leads into one of the most insightful songs (to me, in any case) I've ever heard, backed up by some awesome guitar work. Great Gig In The Sky closes side one, bringing you back down to earth, and then you get hit by that baseline for Money. My favourite bit of the album is the end though, that 15 minutes starting at Us & Them, going through division and insanity, and that wonderful closing track. It's so uplifting, you've gone through 40 minutes of reflection on death, madness, jealousy, isolation, and yet you still come out feeling more hopeful than you did at the start. Awesome. (probably far more detail than any of you wanted, but it made me happy writing it). Oh, obviously a 5/5.

I mean... It's Dark Side of the Moon
I wish I could be contrarian and rate this anything other than 5/5, but it is an album truly deserving of its iconic status. Sometimes pieces of art when elevated to such status become immune to any criticism, and people become blind to its flaws, but this is not one of those. Tender moments interact with loud psychedelic passages (on the run), through to the (I don't use this word lightly) 'orgasmic' vocal solo from Clare Torry on The Great Gig. This album is progressive rock stripped to its emotional core - creating something with universal appeal and long lasting impact. I wish I could find something to knock a star off this album, but it really is one of the best out there. A band in their utmost prime, creating transcendent music for the masses.

Best listened to on vinyl - laying on the ground, staring at the ceiling. Obviously this is an iconic album. It really does an amazing job of capturing a shared human experience and is a wonderfully constructed piece of art.

This is a perfect album. Start to finish, simply impeccable songwriting and musicianship. One of my all-time favorites. Stand out tracks include “Time”, “The Great Gig in the Sky”, “Money”, “Us and Them”, and “Eclipse”, though really the album needs to be listened to and treated as a single continuous movement.
Arguably my favorite album of all time. How appropriate as well, considering we'll be experiencing a total solar eclipse today.

Har lyssnat på det här albumet i ungdomen men efter det kan jag inte säga att jag lyssnat så mycket. Gillar det mörka suggestiva och de instrumentala partierna. Breathe är verkligen bra. Money hade varit 5++utan saxofontjafset. Så jag bara låtsas som det aldrig var med. Brain Damage heter tydligen inte Dark Side Of The Moon men herre min gud. Det är en bra låt. Time är ett mästerverk. Det är en sjuhelvetes bra skiva. 5 utan tvekan.

Music that puts you in a deep trance. What to listen to when you're high, what you listen to when you want to remember when you got high. David gilmour and Roger Waters have been feuding for years, but what they needed was each other to complete such a masterpiece. Could you imagine listening to this album without David gilmour's amazing voice? This album takes your mind to a different state of consciousness. Transports you to other levels. Us & Them has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever. From it's soft beginning to it's roaring orgasmic finish.

While I think that the many many times in which people have attempted to dismiss this album as nothing but an iconic album cover and something that people convince themselves they like have some sort of validity, particularly in the internet age in which there's music you are expected to know inside out and appreciate to even be considered within discussions and people absolutely force themselves to "love" something because they're supposed to. Or even the exact opposite in which people dismiss this album's greatness for it not being groundbreaking and ambitious enough, there is still some validity to this of course as there were more ambitious musical statements within the band's own discography and most fans often won't have DSotM as their favourite Floyd. What I think people are choosing to brush over too hurriedly here in the quest to have a unique opinion in which they truly believe (as opposed to the hundreds said just for the controversy), is that this album to the average music consumer is weird. It's strange and uncomfortable and even unpleasant to listen to at times (I have many people who refuse to listen to Time due to its intro), and it also takes its time to make its statements. All of these elements are historically and contemporarily a product for complete disaster in the commercial realm and yet, in spite of this, this album became the longest charting number 1 album of all time against the likes of artists like Michael Jackson (I know the rankings change all the time but point stands). And while I'm a big proponent of the idea that commercial success is usually negligible in regarding how great an album is, when it comes to the truly all-time greats of respective fields, you absolutely have to pay attention to the fact that certain artists managed to create something that was truly a beautiful and well-thought out artistic statement that manages to push some boundaries and still appeal almost universally to a commercial AND artistic audience. To me that is the mark of what makes this album wholly unique, is that, while Pink Floyd were special in being able to make somewhat odd sounding and artistic (comparable to what usually charts) albums where many had this wide appeal. There is something so special about an album like this where the worlds of drug-addled artists trying to create the sounds echoing round in their heads on tape, and that of the commuting, top 40, "I just like a good tune" types of the world come completely together to create something that's more than an album, it truly is an icon. The Beatles weren't The Beatles because they wrote the best music of all time because you can't measure that, they were The Beatles because of what they left the world with after they left, coming into a black and white world and disbanding it at a time filled with colour and the the sounds of the true artists that inspired them being heard throughout the whole world. Likewise, this album is so special and beautiful to me because it's one of the main strongholds of the general population feeling, caring, and listening more than anyone seems to give them (us?) credit for. Art sometimes feels like its dead to many people and I choose to view this album's status as a shining beacon that that will never be true.
What is there to say that hasn't already been said
Excellent album. First listened to it when I was 12 and going through my dad's record collection. He would only play Money off the album. The songs are so eclectic and yet seamless. Favorite Track is the whole album. I can't cherry pick one track from another. the song progression gives context from me so I can't pick.

A masterpiece, one of the greatest records of all time. Exceptional songwriting, performances and production. On top of that, the concept and flow of this album is almost perfect - as with any good album, it's made for listening through as one whole experience from start to finish, however this one of this the greatest experiences in that regard it takes you on a real journey.

You know what's funny, I just listened to this album yesterday. I keep it in rotation anyway because it's fucking phenomenal. But hey, any excuse to listen to it again and I'm there! There is a reason this is the third highest rated album on the list, and the most iconic and instantly recognisable album cover of all time. I'm 83 albums deep into this list and I'm already running out of interesting things to say about each album, but for this one I don't need to. We all know this is one of the greatest albums of all time, I don't need to write another review explaining that, God knows there are enough of those already. If you disagree, you're just wrong. What more can I say?
Tgis is a classic for a reason. A continuous album with a lot of history behind it (Pink Floyd's and my own). Not a lot I would do to this album, ie. work, drive, make love. But just sitting and listening to Dark Side of the Moon is like curling up and reading a favorite book.
I think I’ve listened to it before, but this is the first time I actually paid attention to it. Obviously, it’s very good. It’s great listening to an album which is definitely an album and not a bunch of songs. I do think other artists have made similar music that is probably better, but this puts it all together as an album very nicely. And I’m also torn between thinking it could do with one or two more shorter “poppy” songs to make it a more enjoyable listen with more variety, while also thinking that they would be forced in there and it’s doesn’t need to be an album filled with actual songs. Hard to criticise a band which is just a bunch of guitar noises for making an album of a bunch of great guitar noises. What do I know! Don’t bother listening to me Roger, you know best. I still had a great time. Who knew I would have so many thoughts on this album. Usually I’m just criticising Oasis (who are losers). A clear plagiarism of Gimme Some Money by Spinal Tap in there though.
You know, as a non-Pink Floyd fan, this is probably the album I am least annoyed with. I am a Wizard of Oz girly above all else and obvs this album has ties. There are bangers ("Money") and the tracks that aren't bangers ("Breathe (In the Air)") are lovely space-out tracks that almost make me like Pink Floyd.

One of the most important works for albums as an art form, and simply one of the best of all time. It’s on the shortlist of albums that were (are) both tremendous commercial successes and creatively ambitious and challenging. It takes you places throughout its run time. The songs are great, lyrics are great, the musicianship is great. It’s existential and vital, weird and familiar. You can listen to it 1000 times and pick up something new. It’s a perfect album.
I really don’t ever need to hear Money again, but it definitely works in the context of the album.
I don’t know how many times I listened to this music, but I remember the first time in 8th grade, 1979. My friends older brother had the LP and I thought it was crap. As I matured I learned to understand the depth, breadth and symbol this music is. Now, if I were forced to leave the planet and could only take one album it would be this. This is the greatest music I have yet experienced.

Isn't it incredible that a 43 minute album can sum up so much of your own internal experience as a human being. That with the right guitar solo and wailing and sound effects and lyrics you can really just come out of it feeling Changed, no matter how many times you've heard the album?

I think there's a good reason this album is the fourth-best-selling worldwide, and frequently tops (or nearly tops) album rankings. It's mind-blowingly good, and coincidentally also my current favourite album. Pink Floyd has done something really incredible here that's harder than it sounds: musically tying a concept album together. In particular, the opening and closing tracks ("Speak To Me", "Eclipse") are respectively a teaser and an encore for all the sounds that appear throughout the album. It's an idea I've never seen repeated to the same high standard. The lyrics are absolutely incredible. Take "Time", for example. In this one track, nearly every line is a gem: "Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day" "No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun" "Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines" "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way" Add to that the pristine, psychedelic, soul-lifting guitar solo, backing vocals, and thematic connection to the earlier track "Breathe", and you have as close to a perfect song as one can get. Speaking of "Breathe", its lyrics are nothing to shake a stick at. "All you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be" is a mantra I could live the rest of my life by. The transition between the previous track and this one is iconic, heart-stopping, and beautiful all at once. And the song really sounds like stepping out of the frightening darkness of noise and maniacal laughter into the air. (Ahhhh.) "On The Run", justifiably the album's weakest and most sonically dated track, is still great, incorporating an ultra-fast synth-bassline to create an agitated, restless psychedelic atmosphere. It's unnerving, which was certainly the intention. Need I mention "The Great Gig in the Sky"? Ugh, those vocals. They're disgustingly brilliant. Clare Torry might not have been given the best instructions in the studio, but whatever improvised magic she came up with, it was incredible. Coupled with Rick Wright's insanely cool chord progression, Roger's floating bassline, and Nick's drumming, this is another perfect track. Seriously. And yet, somehow, side 2 is every bit as good as side 1. The transitions are particularly of note, making the four-track run from "Us and Them" through "Eclipse" incredibly cohesive. "Any Colour You Like" has brilliant, rainbowy synths and guitarwork, with a classic Floydian i7-IV chord progression. "Money", popular for a reason, has an infectious bassline, a groovy 7/4 time signature, and a break into 4/4 whose instrumental is seriously one of the best you'll get in any 70s album. "Us and Them", the album's true centrepiece, is magnificent, laden with emotional sax and piano solos, nifty chord progressions, and four complementary out-of-body experiences as the song shifts effortlessly between the A- and B-sections. "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" are so congruent that they may as well be one track. And gosh darnit Roger, you've really done it this time. His understanding of textural shift and artistic motifs is off the charts here. It's a perfect closer to a near-perfect album. Oh yeah, the album art. It's decent... Maybe it'll become famous someday.

Original version wasn't available, so I'm listening to the 2023 remaster on Apple Music with Dolby Atmos(although I remember listening to a vinyl copy as a young child on my dad's hi-fi). Beautiful vocals underpin a guided tour through a variety of sounds. Where I criticised extraneous noises included in Outkast's album a couple of days ago, they accentuate here a change in track, change in theme, change in tempo, which otherwise is part of a continuous flow from start to end. It also doesn't feel quite as pretentious, just experimental. The segue track between 'Breathe' and 'Time', called 'On the Run' features some vocal samples, some risers, and an arpeggiated synth driving the album forwards, and while clearly being an interstitial piece between the two, it has merit in its own right. An 'album' in the traditional sense, not a collection of tracks, it only works in order. Overall, an absolute masterpiece. No surprise that it is a timeless classic.

Lot of nostalgia with this one, so it's hard to rate objectively. I have a feeling that syd barret era pink floyd is probably more to my liking but I don't know it as well as this, which is just an all time great album. Love how the songs bleed into each other on this.
Pink Floyd went on a streak of excellent albums and it's easy to argue which is your favorite. You may even be able to argue which are 4s and which are 5s. I think marking this album as a 5 star is surely the most consistent agreement. While I prefer Animals, there's no doubting the thoughts and intentions into making this album. The blend of rock, soul, and synths. The pacing and the cleanliness of it all. Really a spectacular album.
A masterpiece. Not everyone's cup of tea of course, but I'd encourage anyone to properly sit down and listen from beginning to end, using either proper HiFi or a decent set of headphones.

This is one of those albums that everyone has some sort of impression of, it's impossible to not have encountered it in some form. It's frankly an incredible record for it's time and place in terms of musicianship and production. I think it's pretty tough to objectively argue against it being 5 stars.

If o was stuck on a desert island and had only one album to listen to, it would be Dark Side Of The Moon. For me, it’s the most complete piece of audio artwork ever created. When I saw David Gilmour play at The Royal Albert Hall, I wanted to hear two songs specifically. One, obviously, was Comfortably Numb. The other was Breathe. I wasn’t disappointed by either. As a journey through our lives, this album sets out key themes (birth, death, money, aging…) and every time I listen to it, I hear something new. It’s so multi-layered and beautiful, and uplifting, and saddening. My all time go-to album.
At some stage in your life, this album will get you.. I was a little late to the party, due to someone at school droning on, and on, and on, and on (you get the idea) about just how perfect it was, meaning that being 15 and a man of my own mind, I wouldn't listen. It got me eventually though! Stunning

What can be said about this masterpiece that hasn't been said already? Fresh to this day, unique, emotional, dark, stellar production, fascinating soundscape, and on and on. 50+ years and it still sells. A definitive classic.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to put forward anything new about this album that hasn't already been said a million times. It's perfect and flows together with ease. DSOTM makes me feel like I'm comfortably floating through space, with not a care in my head but simultaneously extremely anxious about everything happening on the world below me. How? Lyrically, "Time" hits harder than any song I can think of off the top of my head. I think we all have feelings at some point that we've missed our chance at something in life and that song encapsulates the feeling of sadness and regret perfectly. For it to flow into the haunting beauty that is "The Great Gig in the Sky" is perfect. Famously, the singer on that song, Clare Torry, was asked to improvise singing along with the music and came out with that masterpiece in three takes, never having heard the instrumental piece behind it before entering the building. When she left the studio, she thought her performance was awful, even going so far as to apologize for it and did not expect to hear it used at all. While those songs are incredible, the jazzy, dejected "Us and Them" through the uplifting and beautiful "Eclipse" might be the most flawless four song run in the history of music. Goosebumps every time. I was going to list my favorite songs but it'd literally be the whole album. The only song that gets 4/5 instead of 5/5 is "Money", and that's just due to the song being overplayed, which is unfair to the song itself. "and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."
This is honestly such a masterpiece. I really gave this album my full attention and it did not disappoint. I feel like I could listen to this album 100 more times and still hear new things Each time. My favorite songs were Us and Them, Money, and Time (even though it made me cry harder than I would like to admit).
I mean, if this isn’t the best album of all time, it’s pretty darn close.

Truly an album that belongs on any list of album you must hear in your lifetime. Whether you are a fan of Floyd or not, you have to recognize as one of the best albums of all time. Probably the only band that have 2 albums that could be the greatest albums of all time. This album, much like The Wall, is an album you have to start from the beginning and listen straight through. Hearing a song out of sequence, seem to throw off the mood, imo. And much like pistachios for me, once I start, I can't stop until there's noting left. I can't find a single complaint, just a beautiful album, beautiful songs and beautiful voices. I especially love Clare Torry and the Greta Gig In The Sky. Can't pinpoint a reason, but I always think of Ash when I hear. Not for the lyrics but how great this lady sounds. Time always reminds me of my grandmother. I swear she had over 20 clocks in her house. Grandfather and Cuckcoo clocks. Every hour was a plethera of bongs and cuckcoos. Good times. I like the entire album, but personal favorites also include Us and Them, Brain Damage and Eclipse. Don't know what else to say except this is a 5 star album. 5 Wonder how many reviews mention Wizard of Oz?
5 I previously mentioned in my review of The Wall that this album is also probably a 4.5 for me, and I even went as far to listen to it then to confirm that - but my mind was changed with this listening. Maybe I was trying too hard to compare it with The Wall then, maybe I wasn’t fully paying attention and appreciating what it had to offer, or maybe it’s just nostalgia now that’s convincing me otherwise, regardless, as someone who was a big fan of Pink Floyd in high school, this reminded me of what initially drew me in to the group - when this particular album redefined for me what an album could be. Suddenly, they didn’t have to just be collections of songs for me to cherry-pick favorites from, they could be experiences. And that’s truly what this album is, a musical journey, the kind that makes you feel like you’ve reached some sort of spiritual destination or catharsis when it ends. That’s not to say there aren’t fantastic individual songs here though, with Time and The Great Gig in the Sky probably being my two personal favorites - the former is an incredible, insightfully written (and anxiety-inducing) track that seems to hold profound resonation at whatever age I’ve found myself at when listening, and the latter has perhaps one of the greatest and most impassioned vocal tracks ever laid to tape. But ultimately, it’s the way that each of these songs connect and harmonize with one another that really elevates them. Like, Eclipse is far and away one of the greatest album closers I’ve ever heard, and yet it almost doesn’t work for me if I haven’t heard the whole album before it. Even tracks that would go on to become classic rock radio staples like Money and Breathe have grown to become songs I tend to skip when they pop up on shuffle, but juxtaposed to everything surrounding them, they each felt perfectly constructed and placed, almost like I was hearing them again for the first time. If having that kind of power a decade later isn’t an indication of an all-time great album, I don’t know what is. I know referring to The Dark Side of the Moon as such isn’t any kind of unpopular opinion, but for me personally, I think I owe it some credit for making me into the album-listener I am today and quite possibly why I’m taking on this very list now, so how could I give it anything less than a 5? Being 50 years old and still constantly being regarded as one of the best albums ever is no easy feat, and I think Dark Side is so very deserving of that continued praise (I’m sure college dorm rooms today are still littered with posters of the thing - Lord knows I had one up just eight years ago). I have a whole spiel of anecdotes I could go on about with Dark Side of the Rainbow as well, but instead, I’ll end with a fun fact - Paul McCartney, who happened to be recording in the same studio at the time, was interviewed by the group to be included as one of the voices heard at the end of Money, but ultimately, Roger Waters thought he was trying too hard to be funny and cut him from the final release. Instead, they included his Wings bandmate Henry McCullough - also known as the guy that says “I don’t know, I was really drunk at the time”.
I'm not even exaggerating because it is white man music but this album is INSANE. It started with me just listening to Great Gig, then Money but the entire thing is seamless. Personally and what I am currently listening to right now is 'Us and Them'. I almost cry every single time especially the transition into Any Colour You Like, it might make the spotify wrapped this year. the seamless strokes of avant garde and psych rock. The songwriting is something that I am not used to yet still marveled by, if that even makes sense. I was shocked reading the genius lyrics and I would rewind it because I am amazed by Roger Waters

Rock, prog, psychedelic, experimental, male, mid, masterpiece, great dramatic composition, one of my first spinspinspinrecords during studies, many experiences with it (cover bands, exhibition, planetarium), but seeing/hearing the full album live at duna jam beach was just... mindblowing - thank you David Celia. I feel like Dark Side of the Moon has been in my life for as long a I can remember. It was always on my turntable for some reason in my adolescence, but now that I’ve listened to all of Pink Floyd’s records it’s not even my favorite of theirs. It’s a prog rock album that’s lean, without the drawn out excess of other artists in the same genre. Also with without the goofy Lord of the Rings inspired lyrics, it shows their biting, dry sense of humor. Listening to it again it’s like an old friend that you haven’t heard from in a while.

I'd never listened to this album all the way through before and I regret that now. What an album. The scope of it is just epic. It does incredibly well painting pictures in your mind using space and quiet as well as lots of layered noise. It's a bit like jazz in that the real skill is in the spaces they leave. This is the first album that gets a five having never listened to it before. Outstanding.

It took me a bit of time but there isn't much else to be said for this album other than it's great. Once you learn to accept the space Pink Floyd creates with this album and want to inhabit that space, then it's a wonderful listen. "Brain Damage" may have become my favorite song on the album, which is a bit odd since it's the 4th "hit" off the album. If I had to nitpick, I don't love starting off with "Speak to Me" as it's just a slow start, but that is a nitpick.

Musically, what the 70's tried to be. This was music to relax by in a candle-lit room alone or with a few friends. The music became a part of the conversation. This is music to set your phone to "do not disturb" by. Give it a couple of hours some night. It may never be your favorite, but you should give it a fair shake
I would love to be a contrarian. But I must be the stereotypical white guy who loves this album. I wasn’t even alive in the 70s for this to be a nostalgic record. It’s just undeniably great and is one of the few albums that I enjoy listening start to finish rather than skipping to the good stuff. It’s all good stuff. 5/5

Album #3 Not much new I can say about this one. But easy to see why it’s one of the most influential albums of all time. Sound design is absolutely impeccable and it sounds modern to this day. Damn near perfect album and it was fun to revisit.

It’s Dark Side of The FUCKING Moon, everybody and their mother knows this album. As soon as it popped up, I knew it was gonna be a 5. I was right. It’s so amazing, every detail. There’s nothing new left to add.
Gotta love a bit of the Floyd. Their albums are always like an aural journey and this is possibly their finest. As a slight music geek Money always has a special place in my heart for the rare use of the 7/4 time signature which works so well to provide an ebb and flow to the intensity. Lovely stuff

Musically interesting and varied enough. Lyrically we are all fascinated with madness to a degree. An example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Brilliant and, quite possibly, perfect.

One time when I lived in Denver I was walking downtown and I had a DSotM t-shirt on underneath my jacket and this hobo-looking guy comes up to me and is all, "Hey man, you like Dark Side? What's your favorite song on the album?" I could tell he was testing me, like I wasn't a *real* fan or something. I just shrugged and said "I like 'em all" and kept walking. Because what a stupid fucking question. Dark Side, more than any other album, is meant to be listened to as a continuous suite. But homeboy keeps on and goes, "Oh, really, you like them all? There isn't one song you like more than another?" He was kind of hostile, like he was expecting me to say "Money" and then he would point and laugh at me with all his hobo friends. So I thought about it for a second and start playing the album in my brain and was like, "Breathe." Because that was the first song I could think of (besides Money) and I really just wanted to get away the fuck away from him. And I think I caught him off guard because then he was like, "Oh, yeah, Breathe, that's a good song." And I was like, "Right on," then we went our separate ways. Anyway, Denver hobo, if you're reading this, my real favorite song is "Time."

The drama and mythology surrounding Pink Floyd can sometimes upstage the music, but there’s a reason this album is a classic. Really great listening experience (especially with a good set of headphones—“On the Run” has some fun stereo panning). I like how all the songs flow into each other, but it doesn’t feel repetitive or boring because the songs are so well done. It’s a well-done concept album. Lyrically, the songs are thematically similar in exploring feelings of loss, alienation, and existential dread, but each song covers a different angle (the rat race, aging, war, insanity, etc.). Technologically, the use of synthesizers must have been mind-blowing when the album first came out, and they still sound great today. Favorite songs include “Breathe,” “Time,” “The Great Gig in the Sky,” “Money” and “Brain Damage.” It’s worth singling out Clare Torry’s performance on the album, especially on “Great Gig.” What a phenomenal voice and performance on that song—you really feel like she’s fighting death.
An absolute classic. 2014 road trip solidified that for me. 6er and hot dogs and whiskey every night. The cacophony of sounds before breathe is great

I was a little kid when this came out and permeated junior high school for me. It’s almost hard to listen separate from the raging return of what it was like then.

Always one of my favorite albums. It made me a little emotional listening to Any Colour You Like because the funky guitar made me think of Robbie. Also “see you on the dark side of the moon” reminded me of something he used to say like “I’ll see you tomorrow and if I don’t I’ll see you on the other side”.

Quel incroyable album, cohérent et teu du début à la fin du premier au dernier battement de coeur. L'intro qui plante le décor de tout ce qu'on va entendre et qui mène au premier accord de "Breathe (in the air)". Un des trucs les plus planants que j'ai entendu. "The Great Gig in the Sky", "Time", "Brain Damage", "Eclipse" qui nous laisse là hébété. Quel voyage incroyable. Quelle putain de perfection.

I did not to listen to it until I was in my 20s, and at that time I was very resistant to new music, especially because the association of this album was that one was a stoner. When I was able to really listen to the sound, lyrics and theme, I was enthralled.

So I never really need an excuse to listen to this but I'm glad to be given one. Admittedly I am biased due to a lifelong love of this album but 5 stars for me.
This is a phenomenal album! Perhaps I'm biased because I've already listened to it many times... but there's a reason for that. First off, this is one that begs to be listened to as a complete album—I rarely put on simply one or two tracks from it in a mix—since each track melds into the next, each sets the stage for the opening of the next scene. Second, this is so different from almost everything else that the album is timeless—I never even paid attention to the release date before this listen and was surprised to see it was released in 1973. The instrumentation, techniques, vocals, recording color, and general impact don't sound like anything from the 60s, 70s, or any other specific era—one exclusion being the track, “Any Colour You Like,” which is delightfully groovy. Third, the recording quality is pristine, with every element beautifully captured: guitars, saxophone, organ, drums, sampled loops, synthesizer, vocals, and whatever else I might have forgotten to list are all crisp and clear, full-bodied and hitting the entire range of their auditory capacity naturally, and it's all assembled and layered together masterfully—nothing muddled together, every note ringing out crisp and clear for the listener. Fourth, their use of the stereo sound stage is a masterclass in the art, creating interesting and hypnotic effects, placing the listener in a dark, blank room, surrounded by the band for a solo performance. Part of how they accomplish such clarity in the mix (going back to the previous point) is how they take advantage of the whole stage, all the way from the far right to the far left. Fifth, I don't know if this is true or not, but it feels like their use of sound sampling left a permanent imprint on the industry—they don't use the samples only as effects to add atmosphere or texture on the side; they use them as instruments, as part of the melody themselves. I think others did similar things earlier, but it feels like everyone that does it now is starting with Dark Side of the Moon as their baseline. I don't put this album on all the time because I feel it deserves the listener's full attention, but wow, I enjoy it more and more each time!
I'll tell you what: I think this album has a chance to gain some popularity. This Floyd chap seems to have found something that really works here, and if people give it a try I think they'll like it. ---- Pretty surprising how well this holds up given that it's...holy shit, this album came out 50 years ago! It's hard enough to make an artsy album that works the day it comes out, but the fact that it still works 50 years later is incredible. A million artists have tried to make music that evokes an emotional response like this, but few have succeeded; this one just has that je ne sais quoi.

I am probably a bit biased with this review, but this is one of m favorite albums of all time. I think this album is a masterpiece that took a lot of creative and musical talent to make. One thing I've always loved about the album is how the songs seemlessly blend into eachother. It creates a complete listening experience, that makes me want to listen to it in full. I could say so much more about it if I had the time. It's a 5/5 and not many pieces of music come close to it in my opinion.
This is, without a doubt, one of the few perfect albums that exist. Every track is great (even “Speak to Me,” which is just a minute of sound effects), with a few certified bangers. The lyrics are poetic but specific and meaningful. The album flows so elegantly, making it the fastest 45 minutes of music that exists. The album is actually fairly sparing in production and yet sounds so enormous and beautiful, a testament to the brilliant performances and engineering. In fact, this is likely what makes it the most beloved prog rock album—it doesn’t veer into excess or pretension. A long time favorite, there simply is no album I would rather have to ring in the new year. One of only two albums I’ve gotten so far that deserve a ranking higher than 5/5 (the other being “Songs in the Key of Life”).

Maybe not The GOAT, but right up there with the best available. Tremendously good and enjoyable and now I think it is better overall than Wish You Were Here (song for song). Generally bitesize Floyd pieces, covering a wide range of accessible and interesting topics and styles with the now famous time signature changes. A blast and a delightful present this Christmas Day from the 1001+ generator.

As it turns out, dads are right some times. I vibed out to dark side of the moon in my teens. In my twenties, the concept of the very serious rock band was entirely unappetizing. Now in my thirties, having not listened to this in maybe 15 years, I once again vibe out. I still feel like I would find some of their later work (the wall) self serious, or even pompous. I guess I will find out sooner or later. 4.6

How do I even review this? Its one of the greatest albums of all time for a reason. The only thing I could complain about is that when I listened to this today, my headphones started stuttering in the middle of the great gig in the sky. That was a bit annoying.

What a way to see off the week! Though neither of the contain my favourite Floyd track, this is one of my two favourite Floyd albums. As a comment on life in general it is as relevant today as it ever was. Starting off with the heart beat of speak to me and progressing through breathe and on the run this album contains the well known tracks of Time and Money. Ultimate Dad music, one of the first albums I ever listened to. Not quite forced to listen to it more times than I care to think about, as it was one of the best albums my Dad had out of a very bad bunch. The other one I used to ask to hear was Gustav Holst's Planet suite. Then I grew up and never listened to Dark Side of the Moon again. I can't say the same about Holst, as I have a copy of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its bad in any way, it's just that I don't need to hear it as I know it well enough. Nice to give it its once a century play since the parents have passed on. Roll on to the 22nd century for the next play! But seriously it is a stone cold classic and deserves nothing less than a 5.

What's that thing on the cover? Is it a prism or a prizm? Whatever your argument is for the spelling, there's no denying this album is a classic. Normally, the intro song doesn't really work for me. But in this case, it allows for you to build the anticipation of what you're about to receive from this album. Or, it should just be a mechanism to allow you some time to sit down after you've put the needle on the record and settle in to be blown away. In the old Maxell ad, I've always envisioned that this album is what they were playing. Imagine that irony!

5/5. Man, although I wouldn't say all the songs on here are perfect, it's really hard for me to deny the 5 this deserves. Unique instrumentation, wild and spacey lyrics while also being real, a feeling of dread spread throughout the album. For an album about life, it truly hits home the depressing state we all go through even back in 1973. Personally bias of course but this is definitely one you have to listen to before you die. Plus we love the anti-capitalist mindset they were preaching.

I mean it's "Darkside of the moon" one of my (and everyone else's) favourite albums. I remember hearing it for the first time (or actually taking notice to it) when I was around 12. I was with my dad, driving to visit family and he had brought it as one of the "car CDs". Normally his selection was pretty dull but once we left the city there weren't that many good radio stations. I remember really connecting with "Time" and that existential dread as well as the "Great gig in the Sky" as I played a lot of piano. Anyway, I haven't listened to this for a long time and decided to see if it was still as good as I remember. The answer is a clear yes. The theme is clear the whole album and just listening to it as singles doesn't do it proper justice so it really benefits of being an album. I try to find a favourite song or part but just can't, it changes each time but all parts are great. There is no part of the album that feels dull or bad or something that could be removed. I think this is as close to a perfect album one can come really.

A classic. It both sounds timeless and trapped in time. A 70s record I love. High in concept, but still big on engaging music. Builds in beautifully, and the run from time to us and them is insane. Any colour you like is the weakest song on the album but brain damage instantly comes back up to form. I’ve listened to this once every 5 years and every time my love for it grows. I’ll have to come back to it more often!

There is a very small number of albums I will say this about. But Dark Side of the Moon is an album all serious albums aspire to be, most of them falling far short. There are few albums this carefully crafted, this unified in concept, this technically masterful. It's creative in ways that are nuanced and restrained, which makes it more universally accessible without getting too proggy or losing any of its fire. It's a dark and haunting odyssey of an album that is fascinating down to its finest details. It's hard to even tackle the details, because the album is so richly rendered. Soaring, ethereal moments linger with softly unsettling moments and even flashes of humor. The subject matter ponders themes that are dark but essentially human - madness, mortality, materialism, war, the malaise of daily life - in ways you rarely hear in music, frequently with surprising lyrical economy. The music very much speaks for itself. One of the most important albums in terms of how my taste in music has been shaped through childhood. I have incredible memories hearing “Time” for the first time waiting in line for the Corkscrew at Cedar Point and synchronizing this album with The Wizard of Oz with my family. I’m still blown away by the production quality for 1973 and it’s single-handedly helped me fall in love with psych rock as a genre.

Objectively the most perfect album of all time.
Easily regarded as one of the best psychedelic rock albums ever, "Dark Side Of The Moon" is filled with some of the best spacey grooves a guy can ask for. There's plenty of songs most people will recongnize from somewhere sometime or another. This is a staple for any person looking to dip their feet in some rock classics.
I could probably have reviewed this without even listening to it ! It’s a really important album to us at a very seminal point in our teenage years and I love it ! I even used to have the album, until Scott sold it 😢 It has to be 5*
Its somewhere between a 4 and a 5 for me.
Groundbreaking and still sounds amazing. Some of the tech wrangling is a little grating now but it makes up for that with the quality.

I mean it's hard not to give this a 5. As a lover of the full album experience, few albums nail it as well as Dark Side does. Hard to imagine not playing it through front to back everytime. 'Us vs Them' I think might be my favourite on here.
Landmark album! Incredible what they achieved on this record. So influential, ground breaking and timeless. I’ve listened to this record tons of times, but that experience never diminishes. 9,5 out of 10

As a teenager who had recently tried my first reefer (I did not inhale), one day I decided I'd sit down and listen to DSOTM from start to finish - then immediately restart the CD to listen again countless times for years to follow. The album changed what I thought music could be, and changed my whole life path in ways I may never understand. As a mid-30s adult who hasn't touched any reefers for over a decade and listens to electronic bleeps and bloops music almost exclusively, with each revisit DSOTM continues to change what it means to me, sometimes challenging to self-reflect and other times reaffirming my life path in powerful new ways. tl;dr - The greatest and most important album I've had the chance to experience in 30+ years of life
